truly i am not saying this simply for the sake of being mean or a snob but i wish mp100 fans would think more about the type of people they choose to make popular in our community. as a fic reader and writer i've seen all kinds of shit that people come up with and i'm not picky with what i enjoy but you know what i find to be completely baffling? the fact that only a handful of people seem to be willing to be critical of an author who (and i'm not putting this under a read more because you guys need to see how fucking long this is and let it sink in):

wrote touichirou to be even worse than he already is in canon. we're talking about being pro-eugenics, being racist towards serizawa (who is portrayed as blasian), and condoning child impregnation (don't even try to come at me with the whole "well duh he's the villain so what's the problem?!" because let me ask you: why would any of the above be necessary to show that touichirou is a villain? all of this is ultimately unimportant to the fic in question as a whole and imo they're not handled with the necessary care that should entail. something being dark and gritty =/= being better; i thought we've evolved past this mindset). excuse me for disregarding mp100's themes of "it's never too late to change" for a second here, but shit like this makes it extra difficult to buy into his character development post-wd arc. most recently, the author has revealed herself to hc him as having had a white south african mother from whom he learned "his kind of eugenics mindset. outright headcanoning a character to be racist huh? white.

is racist towards serizawa in general actually. the narration is constantly making weird comments about his hair before he starts working at s&s. you see people like REIGEN saying he looks sloppy, and it's never called out.

wrote a graphic sequence where reigen gives birth in a taxi while ritsu watches and helps deliver it. again, it's a completely unnecessary scene and adds nothing to the overall narrative, and it can be very uncomfortable for those faint of heart. also theres a gratuitous r/trei joke thrown in there for good measure.

has very questionable trans rep, according to the trans people i've spoken to. serizawa is implied to have a trans fetish, shimazaki is portrayed as a trans woman chaser (you know for the funnies), and allusions to reigen's transness are mostly through explicit imagery.

is really weird about the kids????? shou is characterized as someone who's constantly making dirty and frankly unsettling comments towards others even when he isn't being aged up, even though that's not a trait he has in canon. he and the others are constantly dancing right up to this really uncomfortable line that stops just short of full-blown gross shit.

WROTE A FIC WHERE REIGEN ASSAULTS SERIZAWA. do you hear me? she wrote a fucking fic where serizawa wakes up to reigen trying to get it on with him. that is assault. this author will tell you that it isn't assault because they're in an established relationship but listen to me: That. Is. Assault.

doesn't tag any of the shit i just mentioned! she doesn't alert her audience to any of these things before she draws in her audience because she's more worried about "spoilers" than actually protecting people. one time someone asked her to tag the fic i mentioned in the bullet point directly above as SA due to being triggered but she refused because they were the only person to have a problem with it (allegedly), and also because they were "rude." wtf. basic fucking decency shouldn't hinge on how polite or rude someone is being, but she has such a huge victim complex despite being 39 years old and too old for this shit that she doesn't even realize it.

again i am not trying to put myself on a soapbox and say that i'm inherently better than anyone but i really am so disappointed in you people. for the most part i find that this fandom is a lot more well put together than a lot of those hellholes out there (save for the standard fuckery that all fandoms are guilty of obviously) but seeing talented artists that i otherwise respect and have nothing against choose to put this person on a pedestal and by extension enable this sort of thing to continue is so disheartening. i'm not trying to attack anyone or accuse them of consciously condoning this content, but please think for a bit before you uncritically recommend it to others just because it has your favorite ship in it or because you enjoy darker and more mature themes.

[Transmasc Mob and supportive Reigen]

Reigen + Mob | Mob Psycho 100 18-10-2022

I've been having brain worms for the past few hours now:

Young trans dude Mob whose first person he ever told was his shisho. And how much Reigen is there for him.

Of course, Reigen reacts positively and is supportive, but he doesn't know what else to say, especially with how Mob seems to be waiting for a little more. That night he does a lot of research and the next day when Mob comes to the office he can have a better talk with him.

Reigen who's the one helping Mob cut his hair even shorter than they already were, to a length that the boy prefers. "If your parents ask, just say something got stuck in it and needed to be cut" he suggested.

Reigen who's ready to take Mob shopping for masculine outfits that make him feel more comfortable any time he needs new clothes. He can even slip one of two fashion tips here and there.

Reigen who's the one to get Mob's first binder, gifting it to him and seeing just how much more confident it seems to make him (and he's ready to buy another one when Mob outgrow this one eventually).

Reigen who's by Mob's side when he decides to come out to Ritsu. He does it at the office, feeling safe in the familiar environment and with Reigen near them. He's not sitting with them, leaving room for the brothers, but he being within eyesight reassures Mob.

Of course, everything goes perfectly fine (just like Reigen assured him it would be) and Ritsu is also ready to support him, especially at home.

Reigen who's the one to encourage Mob to switch to the school pant uniform, seeing that it would likely make him more comfortable. Plus, Salt Middle School doesn't have a rule that certain people need to wear certain clothes.

Mob is already discreet enough so not many people notice it. Many (and slowly most) starts referring to him by his preferred pronouns, for most because he's seen a small guy who just didn't hit puberty. Maybe some don't even remember what he looked like before.

Reigen who's ready to throw hands if anyone dares disrespect Mob and purposefully misgender him. Mob may be a bit afraid to tell people off, in case something might happen, but Reigen doesn't mind taking care of these people.

Reigen who's really glad to hear that the body improvement club members all seem also very supportive once they realised Mob was trans, helping find a solution for when he exercises. "Goda-senpai said it could be dangerous doing it in my binder" Mob had told him, "So they instead tried to find a solution for me to be able to train with them without it but still be comfortable".

The older man was more than happy to hear they did so, he did read online it was bad doing exercise in it.

Reigen who's ready to be there if needed when, once a bit older and feels safe to do so, comes out to his parents. Patiently waiting in a park near Mob's house, phone in hand in case Mob calls him. (he never met the kid's parents before & now is not the time. plus Ritsu is there) He smiles when he receives a message, telling him everything went smoothly and his parents are also supportive.

Reigen who's ready to go with Mob when he seeks hrt and/or surgeries.

I just think Reigen would be there for Mob throughout everything, seeing him grow more and more confident in many ways. He'd be that person who knew barely anything about trans stuff in general to try to know as much as he can to help Mob.

10. Kageyama “Mob” Shigeo

Mob Psycho 100 is not only weird and fun, but emotional with highs and lows. As goofy as Reigen is, Mob is the heart of this show and his growth is wonderful to watch. He struggles with his powers and emotions but the fix isn’t changing himself as much as it is accepting himself and the relationships in his life. At his core, Mob is incredibly caring—that’s what makes him so special. He’s not a self-sacrificing hero of the prophecy, he’s just Mob. He’s kind just because he is.

9. Olivier Mira Armstrong

I love badass female characters and Major General Armstrong does not disappoint. She’s calculating, cold, and incredibly good at her job. Sometimes, I feel that when writers introduce “strong women” in their stories, they either take a masculine character type and slap it on (the brutish tank, lone gunslinger, etc) but don’t shape their personality outside of “being the tough guy—but a woman!” Or they let a strong woman be feminine but have to emphasize that’s she’s not like the other girls, she can keep up with the guys. Major General Armstrong doesn’t suffer this mistreatment. She is strong, she is fierce. She is a woman. These things don’t affect each other. She is her own character with a personality developed outside of just being a role subversion. Also she’s pretty and has a sword (on one hand I don’t like using a saber, on the other hand saber looks so cool).

8. Roy Mustang

Another Fullmetal Alchemist character…this will be a theme. I think FMAB has some of the best written characters of all time, including Roy Mustang. He could’ve just been a goofy-but-badass charismatic boss and I would like him, but he’s so complex. Mustang is a product of his environment who realized it too late. But instead of escaping his sins, he trusts in his support network to help him rise to the top and ensure that what he did never happens again. Mustang spends the series hiking back from hell up a pathway of good intentions and not without stumbling. He has blood on his hands and he risks the lives of his team and children under his command (Ed and Al)—is that worth it? Mustang’s ideal society would execute him for his crimes. And yet, that’s what he wants. Oh I could talk about him so much more. What a good character.

7. Alphonse Elric

Despite spending most of the series as a suit of metal, Al is incredibly expressive. He balances Ed, but they still bicker like brothers and have their disagreements. He cares and it shows in the little things—the cats he hides in his armor, the support for his friends and respect for Mustang’s team, the willingness to hear out an enemy with a reason. He’s also a traumatized kid who encounters alchemical horrors—the scene with Martel’s death holy shit. What a scene!! He’s not always sunshine, he has trauma and he reacts in sometimes unhealthy ways. Like all FMAB characters, he’s written really well.

6. Alluka Zoldyck

Alluka! Am not gonna lie, a lot of it is that I think she’s just so cute. And despite being hidden away for most of her life and focusing on more childish things like games and hugs, she’s not completely naive. She navigates living with another being sharing her body and mind, an abusive family, and violent lifestyles. Unlike characters like Neon Nostrade or Zushi, she’s not gullible or oblivious, and doesn’t accidentally sabotage her brother’s efforts like child characters sometimes do. Also she’s so sweet when she loves Killua and Nanika! She’s also a canon trans girl who isn’t sexualized. Go Alluka!

5. Denji

As mainly a Chainsaw Man blog, Denji has to be on here. He’s grown on me so much since I first read the manga. I don’t think I can explain why I like him in such a short paragraph. He’s a dumb, broke, horny teenage boy with magical chainsaw powers from his dog. He’s been manipulated all his life. He got a good life and a family that he was made to kill and revealed to be set up so he would suffer their loss. And yet, he adopts Nayuta, he follows his promise to Pochita, he acknowledges how much his platonic relationships mean to him. He can be an asshole but at the core he’s a good person and doesn’t push boundaries to get what he wants.

4. Riza Hawkeye

Roy Mustang can’t be on this list without his queen. The reason I like them both is pretty similar. They both are fighting to atone for what they’ve done. Hawkeye is special in the way she supports Mustang’s every step. She doesn’t have to act the same as him, she’s definitely her own person with her own struggles, but the reasons I like her are just like Mustang’s. She’s also a badass. But when I think about why they are my favorites, I think of them together. Their relationship, whether you see it as romantic or not, is what makes them such incredible characters. They are the true ride or dies.

3. Power

My reasons for Powy being one of my favorites is not as deep as others. Yes she has great character growth as well in learning to care for others, but she’s feral. She has demon horns and blood weapons as is feral. She cackles when she laughs and she speaks like a 12 year old trying to write a medieval novel and doesn’t eat her veggies. She bites to show affection and her brothers style her hair for her. Her cat is named “Meowy”. She’s a mess and I love her.

2. Edward Elric

How can I talk about Fullmetal Alchemist without the Fullmetal Alchemist himself? I love this short king for his character design (badass coat, auto mail, braid with the anime hair vents). FMAB would not be a cohesive story without Ed, not just because he’s the main character, but because of how curious, smart, reckless, and loyal he is. Ed brings the cast together. His character growth is great for a child soldier. He’s powerful but still learning that the world is more than black and white. He’s insanely talented at alchemy but not for being born with it, but his passion for and experimentation even when it fails (and boy does he fail!). He has moments where he struggles with his disability and prosthetics but it does not hold him back. And he loves his friends and family so much and shows it in ways that matter to them! The Winry gun scene…. Anyways I love Edward Elric.

1. Killua Zoldyck

Hunter X Hunter is the one of the earlier anime I watched and it holds a special place in my heart. Killua is great throughout. You meet him and you’re like “sick! 12-year-old white-haired anime boy on a skateboard” and then he rips a serial killer’s heart out. He alternates between being tortured (literally) by his past and being a goofy kid who spent 1.5 million dollars on chocolate during the 4 years his dad made him fight MMA matches for a living. And then you find out he’s desperately fighting for free will to stay by the side of the only person he’s ever loved who is another self-sacrificing preteen boy who he has a suicide pact with. And then when said boy almost dies from overusing his magic rock paper scissors power, Killua breaks his sister free of their assassin family to heal him.

His magic shounen power is using electricity because he was electrocuted so much as a kid he’s immune to it. He makes (*ⓛ ω ⓛ *) cat faces. If that doesn’t tell you why I love him idk what does. He’s everything. And he’s extra special to me because he’s a tragically sad gay kid with a crush on his best friend. Hits a little close to home. The “Gon you are light” speech makes me cry. I don’t think I can actually put into words what he makes me feel. He’s just like his theme song. Listen to “The Silver Haired Boy” and you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Hey! I read all but the last chapter of this and i really appreciate how respectful you’re trying to be here. I can even get behind some of your criticism, and im sorry, but the bulk of this makes it sound like you just haven’t seen mob psycho?

Like ok the shimazaki chaser stuff was a bit weird, though personally (as a trans person) the way it was worded didn’t seem particularly disrespectful? Especially with how reigen’s transness was depicted later on. And yeah, a lot of what shou says is really pushing it but to be fair he’s 12 and doesn’t go to school/ socialize with very many people his age, so him being ok talking like that to serizawa isn’t entirely out of the question, I do agree though that at the very least there should have been warnings in the tags.

Also for the child pregnancy mention, it was made clear that touchiro wasn’t cool with that and that it was mostly a misunderstanding/ throwaway moment. Once again some kind of tag/ warning would absolutely be a good idea, if it was to be left in at all.

Next, the reigen pedo stuff? Firstly it’s twitter, people are trying to ruin his reputation and the only other person he works with/ hangs out with is in middle school. People are allowed to write about people being called pedophiles without it being specifically weird.

Now i want to talk about serizawa and touchiro. Whilst i can get where you’re coming from with some of your critisisms, most of this is just how their characters are in canon? Like serizawa canonically has an absent father and criminal background? I could understand if seri were headcannoned as black because of these things, but there just isn’t enough evidence of that? Black serizawa is an incredibly popular headcannon, from what i understand, mostly due to his hair. Like you do realize people of color can fit stereotypes right? The problem is when the author writing about these characters tries to make it seem like the stereotypes are true. I would agree with you, since serizawa is the only black character in this fic (that i remember), if these traits weren’t from a source material where he isn’t black. And when you vaguely mention racist moments and then continue on to talk about things like people manipulating and treating serizawa as almost subhuman, or calling his afro “sloppy” (things that are based on his character in mob psycho mind you not him being black. Yes even the afro part, while it is weird to only refer to it as a “fro,” i admit, it’s made clear that he doesn’t take proper care of his hair, even visually) i’m just gonna need more specific examples.

Finally, the touchiro eugenics stuff. He (in cannon) wants to take over the world because he sees non-espers as subhuman and thinks that espers deserve to be in charge/ are just better. He runs an organization that kidnaps, tortures, and brainwashes people, including kids.

It has been a while since i watched the season 2 finale so some details are blurry but i don’t see how any of the complaints about touchiro are actually out of character? Like yeah he gets a little better later on but this is set before that, while he’s still a 40-something freak not over his wife leaving him with no qualms fist fighting middle schoolers (including his own son). And once again, as these things aren’t depicted in a positive light by the narrative, i see no problem with depicting them. As long as there are proper warnings, these aren’t taboo topics to just depict?

I have heard that the original fic was taken down instead of the author adding the proper warnings/ tags, and i will be honest in that i only just heard about this controversy, and im not sure if there were other things that the author did outside of this that were bad, but the points you bring up here just don’t seem substantial enough to condemn the fic or author on their own? I understand if this fic just isn’t your thing but personally if the author were to put proper warnings for these after they were asked to i really don’t see how there was anything wrong with the fic.

yeah idk why y'all read this

i was originally going to just post this and have some tags with my reasonings, but i realized that opens me up to too much bullshit from people who may think i'm being unnecessarily mean or whatever. so i'm going to explain exactly why the screenshots above are something i hold issue with.

firstly, and i just want to get this out of the way, this post is not intended to be a hit piece against the creator. i've seen how she reacts to any mild-mannered or slightly joking criticism, so i know this post is probably going to not land well. but it isn't my intention to make her mad or anything--she's writing a piece of content for the internet, which means she is just as open to criticism as any other poster. and what i intend to go into in this post is criticism. i'm allowed to do this, as that is the nature of the internet. people are allowed to critique whatever they please, and if you don't want critique then you shouldn't post. simple as!

i am also making no attempts to posit myself as better than the creator. i'm not doing this for clout or moral superiority or any of that dumb shit. i simply want to discuss something that's been bothering me for a bit, while simultaneously warning people who haven't read this yet (who may be sensitive to the issues above) to steer clear. if things like casual racism or transphobia aren't properly tagged, then readers who are affected by such things run a risk reading this! same goes with people who are triggered by lewd content involving minors. i wanna make sure people are getting a more critical scope of this work than what has been hoisted up by others.

okay, now that i've gotten that out of the way, i'm going to get into my points.

firstly, the subtle and not-so-subtle racism throughout this fic, especially in relation to serizawa. i'm white, so there is only so much i can speak on without trampling over the words of other fans of color, but some of this feels so blatant it's odd it hasn't been noted earlier. it's important to note before i go into it that serizawa is specifically written as half-black half-japanese for this fic, in case the screenshots don't make it abundantly clear. but there are just too many moments of casual racism in this fic. i'm not talking about the plot point of serizawa being bullied as a kid for being mixed; i'm not mixed, so i can't speak on the accuracy there but it is well-known that black people face a lot of racism in japan. i'm talking about how it seems everyone else has these racist moments that aren't acknowledged by serizawa or the narration as being bad.

reigen hypothesizing over serizawa's exact ethnic background is just strange. yes he's a fairly observant guy (he has to be, with his job), but there is no canonical evidence to suggest he would immediately jump to theorizing whether serizawa is american or not. and the way it's posed in that first quote--"he has darker skin and the kind of hair texture that would likely indicate African ancestry"--is not great. that's an extremely inappropriate way to bring up someone's race. i don't think most people would stare at someone and be like "hmmm well your nose shape and hair texture would suggest you're of this race". it's racial essentialization that is only slightly covered up by the excuse of "oh he tweets in english". there are some other smaller moments of questionable wording, like calling serizawa's afro "sloppy" when it isnt (which btw there's another issue with the creator only referring to an afro as a "fro". it's a hairstyle; you're allowed to use the actual name of it). even if reigen cuts his hair in canon, he never states it's because serizawa's afro looks sloppy. (also there's something to be said about the casual racism baked into making your employee cut his natural hairstyle for a job, as that is a very real issue many black people face when wearing their natural hair or even protective styles in the workplace.)

i'm especially bothered by toichiro's very casual racist remarks. toichiro in this fic is a general bother of mine (most of which can be boiled down to "he would not fucking say that"), but the way she chooses to characterize him in relation to serizawa feels gross. calling a black man a slave should be a very obvious red flag, but also saying serizawa (again, as a black man) has a "brutal masculine appeal" is also extremely stereotypical and racist. and really there is just no need for it; toichiro's actions in canon prove how shitty of a guy he is without the need for him to be racist (along with other things i'll get to in a bit). as my girlfriend put it: he doesn't need to be a member of the fucking kkk to show he's a bad guy.

there's also, again, the very casual racist remark of calling serizawa a "dog". i don't care if that isn't the intent; when you are writing a character of color you need to be aware of your wording, even in insults (unless she intended to make tsuchiya racist, which i don't think she did).

secondly, the eugenics/child pregnancy bit. it is surreal to even have to write this, but i seriously do not understand the purpose of either of these bits in the story. they are so minor yet so jarring you can't help but wonder why they're there. once again, i do not think you need to have toichiro doing esper eugenics just to prove he is an evil guy. he has nuance, and by making him casually reference child pregnancy (like that isn't an INSANE thing to say) reduces that nuance to nothing. that's the only reason i could see why that bit was included: to make toichiro look worse. but, even still, the author is running the risk of potentially triggering victims of csa or people who don't want to see that by not properly tagging the mention of it (or, at the very least, warning readers in the intro notes). the only other explanation for it would maybe be shock factor??? but that's a pretty shitty thing to use for shock factor, if i'm honest. also the fact that the esper eugenics was referenced again in a more recent chapter just has me very disturbed and confused. there isn't a canonical explanation for why we see less espers who are women than espers who are men, but that doesn't mean we need to jump to fucking Eugenics. it's weird!

thirdly (and this is probably one of my biggest problems and the main reason i wanted to make this post), the weirdly lewd/sexual language shou uses constantly, along with referring to reigen as a pedo or a creep at several points. frankly, i think it's pretty fucking gross for someone in their near-40's to be writing a 12-year-old talking so casually about sex like that's normal. which, i'm sorry, but it's not. yes, teens know about sex and like to joke about lewd shit. but a 12-year-old is not about to make references to a grown man's virginity. 12-year-olds draw dicks on their desk bc they think it's funny. 12-year-olds say the word "buttfuck" because it has the words "butt" and "fuck" in it, and those are the two funniest words on earth to a kid that age. i literally do not understand the purpose of having shou be so lewd all the time. for one, it doesn't make sense for his character. shou is shown time and time again to be extremely mature for his age, but that maturity extends to shit like assembling a counter-terrorism unit and extending a hand to his father to allow him to try again. and even then he's still just as naive as any other kid his age! the omake where he's telling his guys to go to the "far right corner" based on ritsu’s advice proves that he still has plenty of blindspots that are indicative of his age. leaning into this raunchy, lewd version of shou is just weird. and, again, i think it is made a bit weirder given the author's age!!! not ageshaming or whatever--i'm 23 and i write fanfic, clearly i cannot judge there--but it is just extremely inappropriate in my opinion. also having shou be more versed in sextalk than serizawa is odd too and speaks to a larger issue of serizawa's infantilzation throughout this fic, but that's something i can get into in another post if people want an explanation.

also, the way she constantly calls reigen a creep and even has him being accused of being a pedophile during the twitter cancellation is extremely inappropriate when, again, there is NO CANONICAL BASIS FOR THIS! everyone just calls him a fraud and a scammer during separation arc; there is never a reference to reigen being seen as a pedophile in that arc. and, yes, while there are versions of mob psycho where reigen is very clearly written as a creep (looking very specifically at the netflix adaptation), that doesn't mean it's good. honestly, the creep mentions all just feel like really poor jokes that do not land in the slightest.

finally, the transphobia (aka WHY IS SHIMAZAKI A CHASER). i literally do not know what else to say other than: why? why is this a thing? why is he a chaser? what is the purpose of this? is it a joke? i feel like it's supposed to be, but seeing as the author is cis i don't think that's a joke she should really be making. it not only comes out of left field, but it's just kind of a weird thing to ascribe to a character for no reason. not to mention, it's uncomfortable! trans women deal with enough creepy antics from cis men in real life--why must they be accosted by this guy too? it's just weird and uncomfortable.

i wanna round out this post by saying, once again, that i'm not trying to attack anyone with this post. but i do hope people come away from this with a new perspective on this work, and maybe think twice before recommending it uncritically to someone. to the author specifically, i hope you can read my post without rage or indignance blinding you. i might be a little blunt or rude in parts, but it's only because i'm passionate and i don't mince my words when it comes to things i'm passionate about. to the readers, understand i am not judging you for reading this fic without noticing these things. your own life experiences will give you certain blindspots and there's nothing wrong with that. i have plenty of blindspots of my own! it's what makes us human.

i have a desperate need to dump a bunch of my mp100 headcanons in one place so please accept all of these, they’re mostly family headcanons & also trans reigen headcanons -so reigen’s mom had him super young, like, a teenager young -she was around 18 when he was born -it was super hard for a single teen mom but she’s a hell of a lot like her son, which is to say: hardheaded & silver tongued -worked to support them both so reigen was a latchkey kid for a bit but she spent as much time with him as she could & was an Aggressively supportive mom - so when her kid, who she’d thought was a daughter, came to her like ‘mom i’m a boy’ around first grade she was like ALRIGHT TIME TO RESEARCH AS MUCH AS I CAN I GUESS -as a result reigen transitioned super early -he was already able to present how he wanted as a kid & his mom WAS NOT ABOVE YELLING AT ADMINISTRATORS/TEACHERS/ANYONE WHO MISGENDERED HER KID and finding every loophole she could to let her son attend school without being misgendered -however they were pretty fuckin poor when reigen was growing up -and around the time he started puberty his mom & him both knew he needed to get on blockers but he was super guilty about it bc he knew it was a lot of trouble & doctors appointments & stuff -to which his mom was like ‘WELL TOO BAD YOU NEED IT SO WE’RE GETTING IT’ -so he was able to get trans related medical care pretty early & so the only real time he ever spent living life outside his actual gender was like... as a tiny kid -as reigen got older it became pretty much a non-issue and the more pressing issue was that They Were Broke -he started working part time in high school to support his mom - a lot of really weird odd jobs like dog walker and the guy who counts how many people go into and out of stores and secret shopper and god knows what else -because his mom was so young when she had him their relationship is a little parental and a little siblings -like, he supports her emotionally as much as she supports him -sometimes more becasue he feels like he put her through a lot as a child so hes gotta be responsible now -his mom is a hell of a penny pincher & taught him everything he knows about budgeting & couponing etc -however she’s got the worst love life & is kind of a mess & oddly ends up asking her son how the hell to handle most emotional situations -which leads to a lot of people like ‘i... kind of feel like arataka is the parent here’ -mobs parents especially -speaking of: mobs parents had him super late (& then ritsu IMMEDIATELY after) when his mom was like 30 -so reigen’s mom and mob’s parents are about the same age -so they kind of immediately decide upon meeting reigen that he’s their lost third son -he can act parental to mob all he likes but they know the truth: he’s their son & they’ve adopted him -reigens mom wants so bad to be friends with mob’s parents but she intimidates them -in that shes this tiny Very Loud Very Open woman who drinks a lot of wine -what the hell is TMI, everyone needs to know about my date last night -relax, dont be so uptight, have some wine -mobs very normal parents dont know how to handle her -she makes fun of reigen a lot and its mostly affectionate -but sometimes she judges him -like when he quit his office job to open up a spirit agency or whatever??? -arataka, do you know how many people i would have killed to have an office job whle you were growing up -how are you going to pay your bills -what do you mean you’re also paying an employee, are you even paying the rent on your office? -arataka if i need to come to seasoning city and scold you in person i will -don’t test me -(she lives far enough away that reigen only really talks to her on the phone or via email) -its not that often bc both of them are actually pretty busy -as she always has like a hundred boyfriends it seems like -she always dumps them -she’s a heartbreaker -reigen is exhausted w her but also he’s kind of just like her -in that he only really does one night stands & cannot commit to save his life -he’s dumped most eligible bachelors in seasoning city - his mom is also aggressively supportive of her wild ass can’t-date-to-save-his-life gay son - coming out as gay was way harder than coming out as trans (bc he was like 5 when he did that) but his mom just laughed at him & was like “whatever, you do what makes you happy, i am the last person to lecture anyone about their love life” -reigen loves his mom a lot eve if she’s kind of a mess -and vice versa -but also when he meets mobs parents hes like ‘OH MY GOD IS THIS WHAT NORMAL PARENTS ARE LIKE’ ...thats it for now im sorry i had to ramble some

Mettaton

First impression

Ok. So. Mettaton was the only character that I actually knew about before playing undertale, on account of a pal cosplayed box!mettaton for halloween once. So I knew he was a killer robot TV show host and that was it. My first impression of him in the game though was that he was hilarious (and also probably evil). Which is what he was going for! Good for him!!

He's like, totally my robot husband <3 He is a hot mess and I love him for it. He is still hilarious and has some of my favorite dialogue in the whole game. I was not expecting him to turn into his EX form when i first played and that added a whole other dimension to him. His backstory is wonderful

Idea for a story

I know I've said the King Mettaton one already, and he actually has a pretty big role in the Megamind Alphyne AU fic I have planned too... a lot of my wips (either started or planned) involve Mettaton. I think I'd like to write deltarune mtt meeting swatch and/or spamton at some point

oh, and if I had time I would really like to write more of his backstory, like how he came to fame after alphys made his body, and how he felt being separated from his family for the first time.

Unpopular opinion

I don't know if it's unpopular, but I like to think that he can dish out the flirting but when it's someone he actually cares about, he absolutely cannot take it.

(Also maybe not unpopular but I think he had a crush on Asgore at one point sdlkafjd)

I love Papyton of course but since I already said that, also Alphys & Mettaton!! they are Besties (actually i think i said that in the alphys ask too...) ok for the sake of variety. Mettaton & Undyne. frenemies forever (affectionate rivalry)

He was the one to advertise himself as a robot with an artificial soul, not Alphys. She never came clean about that because she didnt want to out him as ghost!trans.

Spamton

First impression

"oh heck oh no why are there words in this background music am i about to get murdered" and then i did (first death of my ch 2 playthrough lol). Mostly I was terrified and missing all of my party members. But after I got over the being scared i ended up jamming to the battle music and I remember leaving that on while I ate lunch for some reason (i do not remember why I ate lunch in the middle of a boss fight)

Popular characters are something that can be so personal actually,, I just think he is super funny and also a really interesting character lore wise. He is still scary in canon so I really appreciate fanon making him even more pathetic (and sometimes hot) because then I am not afraid of him <3

Idea for a story

Ralsei gets the dealmaker "fixed" by Malius, leading to Spamton coming back and being Ralsei's horrible uncle figure. Possibly with a Mob & Reigen (mp100)-esque dynamic.

Unpopular opinion

I don't know if it's unpopular but I like how he has so many different interpretations in the fandom. The tiny gremlin man animal ones are the funniest but he has such a range of fanart that is hilarious, spooky, serious, attractive, etc. that its just. its fun. im cringe i can be honest about this [repeats this like an affirmation]

Favorite relationship

Spamton & Swatch (romantic, divorced, or platonic). There is just something so narratively fascinating about them. Spamton keeps wearing their outfit even after he's been mega kicked out. Spamton worships the thing Swatch created. Swatch sells the big shot bowties with spamton's brand tag cut off. There's just so many hints of history and connection between them that are fun to explore

Favorite headcanon

He and Swatch are super divorced. Swatch actually gave him the colored glasses when they were dating, Swatch is just absolutely not going to fess up to that.

5.) vol 11

My fav aspect of all Mob cover are the unsettling foreboding feeling of it. This one although not standing out from the rest at first glare but it just got those strange energy to it you know? Mob standing at the age of the sea turn to stare back at you, the footprint we wasn't sure if it's his all stop there. Couple this with the inside cover which is the same image but without mob so the footprints become more questionable.

also it has trans color.

4.) vol 8

vol 8 gives of more distinct ominous feeling than most volume, i don't know why. Maybe it's because Mob is actually part of the mob and blending in for once, the fact that nobody cares about him an all smoking and the smoke can't touch him because of the bariar. the setting being the train track. Mob seem small standing straight and staring right at the camera. the color pallet being back to stark black and white with yellow on the side. It's just so good

also I reread this volume a lot so (It's the mogami arc volume)

3.) vol 2

I love the concept story and implication behind the second volume and how iconic it is that it's being reference in the opening. The full volume picture there's little teru all the way at the back alone in the field like mob, this come into play during there fight and the anime actually use the similar imagiry when mob said he is alone just like me. In the inner cover there's also reigen making a field for himself. I like the composition of it with mob so small in the vase field and the color. it certainly stand out from the rest.

2.) vol 1

What can I say vol 1 is definitely the most iconic and almost get the number 1 spot from me to, it's the iconic image of city being destroyed and mob amounf it with red standing out in the black and white cover. I also like how mob is drawn here. look at the side of the volume and you can see how young he looks compare to vol 16...speaking of...

I just...really love how simple yet effective this cover is. It's mob. It's just mob. It has nice black white red color. I don't know what else to say. I wish season 3 promotion material has some sort of call back to this

Honorable mention: Vol 9 I just think it's pretty cute and I like the concept. Vol 7 I don't like the composition so much but it's very different from all other volume cover and I like the wiggle wiggle tomato

3 characters I really relate to

It was hard to pick just 3 but here we go!

1. Reigen Arataka (Mob psycho 100)-Where do I even start with Reigen? He's actually the first character I was truly able to see myself in. His struggle to figure out what kind of person he wants to be is something I've struggled with for a long time and have only just recently figured out. We both have a habit of winging things when we're not 100% sure what to do. I'm not a con artist (nor do I ever want to be), but I can relate to Reigen helping others and doing his best to motivate and guide them in the right direction. I'm also know to completely hide what I'm truly feeling, especially emotions like sadness and anger. We're both very in touch with how other people are feeling and empathic, even if we don't fully understand why they might feel that way. Both of us have a tendency to act parental towards younger companions and we both move our hands a lot when talking and doing things.

2. Alluka Zoldyck (hunter x hunter)-Alluka is very relatable to me in a number of ways. Similar to her, part of my family has abused and mistreated me but thankfully I have some family members who genuinely care about me and I'm able to spend time with them instead. Much like the Alluka and Nanika situation, I've had trouble with getting people to fully accept ALL of me. I've also been very isolated growing up, since I didn't have any friends in school, and a lot of people in the town I went to school looked down on me for being different from the norm there (a trans, gay, neurodivergent, poor person does not fit in very well in a wealthy Republican town). Like Alluka though, I'm thankful for the good parts of my life, even if there's not that many, and I've accepted many parts of myself that have been difficult to. Both of us are trans too! I'm also a big fan of giving and receiving affection, much like how Alluka has been shown to be.

3. Nobara Kugisaki (jujutsu kaisen)-Nobara is highly relatable in that she's very feminine but also loves being strong and getting in on the action, which is exactly how I feel too. I love going to the mall and wearing pretty outfits, but I also love working with tools and can carry a grown man. Another thing that I can really connect with is her motivations-Nobara is completely self-driven, and one of my biggest goals is to live the life I want. I will admit that I put the needs of others before my own, but I'm working on taking care of myself more. Similar to Nobara, I hate backing down from things I'm passionate about and sometimes jump into things without thinking ahead. Both of us are hard workers and dedicate ourselves to doing what we feel is right. Nobara and I look a lot alike too. Both of us are the same height and my hair color (dark red) is similar to hers, but it's a lot longer

9. what does your name mean?tbh, weeb ass got it from noriaki kakyoin initially just as like, an rp nickname? bc i used to rp kakyoin a lot. but i dont want to go by noriaki since i’m white and i know ‘nori’ by itself pops up as a name or nickname in other cultures, although outside of japanese & arabic i can’t find it right now.

tbh i really like that it just sounds like ppl are calling me seaweed, although i’ve also seen that depending on the kanji used it could also mean doctrine/belief. i wish i could find the use of it in other cultures but scrolling through baby name websites is both nauseating and unhelpful, although one person said that in lithuanian it means “wants”

i was going to go by kieran as a middle name until my mom ruined that (like she did with luke) but atm i’d rather accept link - like from legend of zelda, since link was designed to be androgynous and a lot of trans ppl relate to him (although ppl trying to find a deeper meaning to the name on baby name sites is hilarious - ‘lincoln’, really? just admit u like video games) - or cas. cas is apparently dutch for “imperial” but i just took it from the character castiel on supernatural, and his name is probably derived from the archangel cassiel. ‘cassiel’ has a ton of different spellings depending on which religion’s texts you’re reading and which translation, but that name means “speed of god” or “god is my anger”, according to wikipedia. he’s sometimes depicted as the angel over saturn, or the angel of saturdays. he’s not depicted in the bible, but shows up in jewish/islamic/christian mystical and occult texts.

(i think its also worth noting i had a hard time finding these names on baby name sites and like, i do live to be difficult!)

12. favorite trans headcanon?

there are just so many good ones!!! danny fenton & timmy turner (made esp great by the fact that butch hartman just fucking hates it) being trans, that cow from the barnyard show on nickelodeon, reigen arataka, mob (as either trans masc or trans fem), link - and for that matter, any character when you see them shirtless and they don’t have nipples? they had top surgery and elected not to have the nipples put back on. 

i think sam porter bridges from death stranding could easily be read as a trans man or trans woman, and i like both. on the one hand, he needs an stand-to-pee device (literally, that is a part of your equipment); on the other, the game has heavy themes of motherhood and he is able to use technology to be connected through what i can only describe as an umbilical cord to the bridges baby. and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the gender commentary was entirely intentional on kojima’s part. for that matter, i also love trans solid snake and trans hal emmerich in metal gear solid. 

i also think danganronpa deserves a special shoutout, not just because you can pry canon trans girl chihiro fujisaki from my cold, dead hands and i’m sick of seeing cis bootlickers harassing ppl online over that transphobic as fuck storyline, but for real? nobody’s birth name actually spells out “diamond” with their sibling so mondo and daiya oowada are both trans (it’s also one of the only ways to make any part of case 2 make any goddamn sense), yasuhiro hagakure and celestia ludenberg having plotlines where where they have to reveal those aren’t their birth names? congrats they’re both trans now. 

i wish there were more headcanons about characters being trans women that didn’t rely on stereotyping. i know thats a big problem wrt seeing muscular or tall women and ppl focusing their trans headcanons on them, so i actually kinda head canon aoi asahina as trans and wanna eventually write that for fic w sakura ogami being cis bc people tend to look at sakura and go “well obviously shes trans bc shes muscular” (and then they do the opposite when it comes to trans men, but i’ve seen a lot of trans masc hcs). i also don’t see a lot of nonbinary hcs being given to amab people…. we need to fix that!! but alas i have already rambled a lot so thats a post for another day.

16. song that gives you Big Trans Feels?

if we’re not including music that is literally about being trans (like “transgender dysphoria blues” by against me!) then, “twin size mattress” by the front bottoms! the lines “it’s no big surprise you turned out this way / when they closed their eyes and prayed you would change / and they cut your hair and sent you away / you stopped by my house the night you escaped / with tears in my eyes, i begged you to stay / you said, ‘hey man, i love you, / but no fucking way’“ always sounded like he was talking about a trans girl friend of his, but i dont know enough about the band to say for certain what that song is about. it probably helps that i felt that song extra hard when i was first coming out and w how my relationship w my mom was like.

21. what makes you feel euphoric?

back when i first started going by luke (and then later by nori), my dog bingley would just blink at you and not react if you told him to go get [deadname]. he only would come find me if you told him to go get luke / nori.

ok ok things i loved:

everyone’s going ape about the intro; i thought it was ok (the voice acting was kinda weird). it was cute and showed more of mob using his powers as a kid which is nice. idk if it was in the manga or not

i loved the pacing and the fact that they included the tsubomi omake. it helps flesh out her character and show that she still cares about him even if it’s only in a platonic sense (she’s lesbian which is why she turns down every boy)

it also means we got to see teru again!!! MY BOY!!! AND THIS SHIT WAS SO FUCKING FUNNY

they showed a lot of the kageyama family which rules bc it made it hit that much harder when we saw the dead bodies at the end

Serizawa visits his mom for the first time in many years, Reigen is there to support him, and they find more than they ever expected

“Again, thanks for driving me”

“Don’t mention it” Reigen looked briefly at Serizawa at the seat next to him, deciding not to bring up how they had the exact exchange at least 5 times, all during a roughly 20 minutes’ drive; and parked the car in front of the house Serizawa pointed. “You sure you want me to come with? I can wait here, no problem” A part of him really wanted Serizawa to tell him to wait in the car.

The car ride already felt too… intimate, for him. It was hard to function around Serizawa when his professional role as a boss was clear, when they wore suits and ties; now, in jeans and shirt, when he was just a guy helping out his friend who was meeting with his mother after years… It was so much, it made him dizzy.

He’d do anything for Serizawa, he suspected, but he had no clue how to manage all the trust the other placed on him. If he could have a moment for himself, not having to worry about how weird he acted and if he was being too obvious… well, that’d be just fine.

“Please, come” Was Serizawa’s answer instead, with his gaze was fixed on his own feet as his hand searched the handle of the door.

Solemnly, Reigen nodded.

“Sure, of course”

As soon as they left the car, the house’s door opened and a woman stepped outside: an apron over his clothes, curly black hair tied back, and the warmest smile Reigen had ever seen. Serizawa’s mom, no doubt.

“Katsuya, my boy! Oh, sweetie…” The woman wasted no time in approaching them and engulfed Serizawa’s middle with her arms, burrowing her face against his chest. “My handsome boy…” She continued to mutter as Serizawa returned the hug; awkwardly, but not any less warm because of that.

Reigen turned his face, to give them privacy, but also to give privacy to himself, as he didn’t want them to see the tears that threatened to leave his eyes. He just couldn’t help picturing his own mom calling him “my handsome boy” as well…

“Oh, and you brought Arataka!”

He spun on his heels as soon as he heard it, his perfectly rehearsed smile successfully concealing the confusion of having his name called with such familiarity.

“Mrs. Serizawa, it’s my pleasure to-“

His polite greeting and professional extended hand were promptly ignored, as he was pulled into a hug as well.

“Ah, no, none of that “Mrs.” thing! Just call me Keiko, dear! Oh my, haven’t you grown into a fine looking man yourself?”

Now the confusion made its way into Reigen’s face, and Serizawa noticed it quickly.

“Uh, mom?” He caught her attention and she released Reigen, turning to her son with a wide smile. "“So, uh-“ Serizawa cleared his voice “This is- uh, Reigen… my boss…”

So his plan was to absolutely ignore whatever just happened, huh, Reigen mentally commented to himself, and resumed his previously frustrated handshake. This time, Mrs. Serizawa – Keiko - took his hand with a glint of amusement on her eyes.

“Boss, eh?” She repeated, and her face lit up “So you’re in charge of Katsuya’s office! Oh, to think you’d turn into a successful business man!”

“Um, what do you-“

“Ah, I left the oven on!” Keiko raised her hands to her face in alarm, and turned brusquely. “Good thing I made enough to share with Arataka- let’s hope he still likes my cooking!” Was the last thing she said before stepping into the side, leaving two baffled men at the porch.

“Is she alright?” Reigen had to ask, completely dumbfounded. Why did she keep talking like… she knew him somehow?

Serizawa stared for a few seconds, enough to convince Reigen he had overstepped, and then shrugged and mouthed a weak “I don’t know?”

“I-I mean, she’s uh, she’s very kind!” Reigen tried to backpedal “Very warm… I uh, I definitely can see where you got that from! Haha…” He threw in a forced laugh to hopefully distract the other from his reddening checks. God, he felt so silly, getting like this by just paying Serizawa a little harmless compliment…

“You really think so?”

“Huh?”

“A-ah, I mean, if you… really think I’m… warm…” Serizawa blushed up to his ears, and he couldn’t decide between looking right into Reigen’s eyes, and everywhere but Reigen.

“I-I do. You are. Uh. Warm” Reigen mumbled like hypnotized when Serizawa’s gaze finally settled on him. “A-and kind, too…” He coughed “… anyway, your mom is waiting”

“Oh! Right…” Serizawa took a quick hold of Reigen’s hand, squeezing it before letting it go. “Thank you”

With that, he walked into the home and, at loss of words, Reigen followed him.

Once inside, the inescapable smell of homemade cookies dragged them into the kitchen, where Keiko was bringing another teacup to the table.

“Ah, boys, come take a seat!” She called, and only Reigen did that. Instead, Serizawa subtly approached the oven, reaching out to the baking sheet on top of it, full of recently made cookies; as he was going to get his prize, his hand was smacked away.

“Don’t be naughty, Katsuya” His mom chided him, and Serizawa laughed.

“Sorry, mom, I couldn’t help! They smell so good!”

“Yeah, yeah, you’re just trying to get away with it” Keiko tugged lightly at his hair and smiled “And now for that, you’ll have to wait until Arataka eats to have a cookie. Now go sit down”

This time Serizawa did that, shooting a shy smile to Reigen, who was observing the whole situation in amusement.

True to her words, Keiko brought Reigen a plate full of cookies, watching him with a smile.

“Enjoy them! Ah, this really brings back memories, don’t you think?”

Reigen stopped in the middle of eating, confused again.

“I’m sorry, I don’t really…?”

“You used to come home all the time! Obviously not here, we moved to this house right before Katsuya…” She made an almost imperceptible pause, during which Serizawa went tense “… turned 12” Her mom finished and he visibly relaxed.

Puzzled, Reigen glanced at Serizawa. He attempted to tweak his features into those of a 10 year old boy, attempting to come up with a familiar face, with no success.

He tried once more, this time focusing harder into the man’s face, but soon that proved to be useless as well – mostly because he got too entranced by the strong jawline, the hint of stubble, the tug on his lips as they stretched to call his name…

“Reigen” Serizawa called again, and Reigen went back to reality.

“What?” He blurted out, agitated.

“How much sugar would you like?” Serizawa pointed to the cup of tea already served in front of him. Oh god, he had been staring. And not only Serizawa definitely noticed, but his mom as well. Thankfully, none of them commented on it.

Eventually they got all settled up at the table, and Keiko started asking her son questions about his daily life. Reigen knew they had been talking over the phone a few times; still, Serizawa went into a detailed description of his work and school schedules. Before he finished, his mom gasped and stood up brusquely.

“I had pictures of you guys! Somewhere…” She said, and Reigen looked at her in wonder “Now, where did I put them…”

“Mom. It’s ok” Serizawa sounded strained when he gestured for her to sit down again.

“But you we’re so adorable! Alright, alright, I’ll just search for them later. Oh, remember that one time, as we were preparing your birthday?”

Serizawa pretended to be busy sipping at his tea to avoid answering, but it was clear by the way his cheeks furiously blushed that he did remember that particular event.

“You were so happy because we were throwing you a “boy’s party”, with your robots stuff and all” Serizawa’s mom’s voice wavered slightly, but her smile only grew bigger.

“I remember. It was a nice party” Serizawa said sharply through gritted teeth, and for a moment Reigen mistook his attitude for anger.

“And you were all like “Now that I’m a boy, I can marry Akane-chan, right, mom?””

It was as if all the oxygen was punched out of Reigen’s lungs. It had been so long since he heard that name… He barely registered Keiko was still talking.

“I had to remind you it was Arataka and not Akane at that time, but you didn’t I guess you weren’t paying much attention – with all the emotion of your birthday, and your new name, and we were about to move as well… maybe I should have given you more attention, too…”

Her voice drowned down and, for a moment, the three of them went silent.

Reigen looked at Serizawa in disbelief, but this new information completed the puzzle. Seeing the man hunched over his cup, with his gaze fixed on what was left of his tea and tears twinkling in his eyes, he easily remembered her.

His childhood friend, the funny, intelligent, kind Katsumi who always made up games for the both of them to play, and scolded him when he didn’t want to do his homework. Katsumi was also the first person he came out to, and the memory of her going absolutely ecstatic as he told her that he didn’t care what his mom said, he was a boy and nothing else, always filled him with warmth.

He had wondered so, so many times what have been of her, in all the time he had lost contact… to think the answer was much closer than he ever thought…

“I’m so happy you found each other once more” Keiko added in a weak whisper, and excused herself out of the room.

Reigen and Serizawa immediately searched for each other’s eyes, without speaking a word. It was a lot to take, and they’d probably have to talk about it, sooner or later, but for now they just needed to make sure the other was there.

A couple of minutes later, Keiko was back with a new batch of cookies, and a renewed smile.

From that point, the rest of the evening was a blur for Reigen. He had another tea, ate cookie after cookie only to have something to do with his hands; and just watched in silence at the other two as they exchanged daily anecdotes and recipes, as Serizawa helped his mom with her smartphone and with some heavy boxes, and then as they sat down to talk a bit more.

Eventually Serizawa stood up and said, “Well, mom, maybe you can visit me next time!”, and Reigen took that as his cue to stand up and say goodbye.

The ride back was done in silence, each of them too busy incorporating what they just learnt to talk to each other. Once Reigen parked in front of Serizawa’s place, Serizawa started fidgeting with his hands.

“Hey, uh…” He took a deep breath “Would you like to, uh, hang for a bit longer? Maybe you can stay for tea, o-or…”

“I can’t drink any more tea, Serizawa.” Reigen sighed “I couldn’t stomach it.”

“O-oh, right, then what about-“

“Nothing to do with food. Please.”

Serizawa went silent and stared at his thumbs; and Reigen wondered, not for the first time that day, if he hadn’t spoken out of place. But he had no words to apologize, his brain feeling like it had been deep-fried.

“Reigen” Serizawa called softly and he turned to him, who continued with a too quiet “I’m sorry”

Reigen didn’t have the chance to wonder what exactly he was sorry for, as Serizawa was very quickly, very much in his personal space, taking advantage of his turned head to plant a firm kiss on his surprised face.

He missed his lips by millimeters only.

“Well. That did not work out like I expected” Serizawa had the guts to admit, even when his face had achieved a more intense red color than it had on the entire day. “If you excuse me, I’ll leave the car now and run to my apartment so I can yell at myself”

Reigen found this calmness extremely hilarious, but he couldn’t for the love of god let out any kind of laughter. Instead he stared incredulously at Serizawa, his own face burning hot, unable to make any move as the other man found the door handle.

“Wait!” He finally said, at the same time Serizawa opened the door and was stepping outside. “Wait” He repeated and Serizawa sat back again, tentatively closing the door, and looked at him with embarrassment. “Were you- was it- Did you tried to kiss me since- because of- to make up for the things we learnt today?” Reigen asked once he finished stumbling over his own words.

Fervently, Serizawa shook his head.

“No!” Was his resolute answer, though he still appeared sheepish “I… was already planning to confess to you today… since a few weeks…”

“Well why didn’t you?” Reigen found himself blurting the question, genuinely curious.

“I tried, alright! I tried! I just thought the car was not the best place, so I tried to invite you over, but you didn’t want to so I panicked and-“

Reigen’s loud snort made Serizawa cut his rant, confused at first, but in no time both of them were laughing uncontrollably at themselves.

“Alright, alright.” Reigen conceded when he managed to stop laughing “I’ll stay, you handsome mommy’s boy” He mocked.

“If you insist, you successful business man” Serizawa teased back, and they left the car.

“Hey, Mob. What do you got there?”

Reigen had returned from the street and was curiously watching at Mob, standing in the middle of the office with a paper on his hands.

“Huh? I don’t know, it fell from your desk, Master.” Mob turned the piece of paper around to show him “Who are these kids?”

He was holding a slightly unfocused photograph of two smiling kids mid-hug, not looking at the camera.

“Hm? That’s-” Reigen blinked through the tears that were welling up in his eyes. He had never seen that picture before, but he didn’t hesitate to answer. “That’s… me.” He pointed to the child with blond hair in a polka dot dress “And uh” He made a pause to look at the other kid – a radiant smile being the only thing visible through the dark mess of curly hair -, and to let a few tears to fall as well. “That’s Serizawa. I know! It’s hard to believe, huh? I mean, he looks way older than me! But even he was a child one time, just like all of us! So uh- Oh hey, Serizawa, speaking of the devil!”

Reigen was already sweating when Serizawa walked in, scrutinizing everything with a frown on his face.

“Oh” Serizawa approached Reigen “ H-hey, Arataka, I was searching…” He continued to look around, absentmindedly holding Reigen’s waist with an arm “My mom did find the picture after all, and she sent it to me but I can’t remember where it- O-oh, Shigeo’s right here…” He noted, embarrassed, and let Reigen’s waist go.

Mob, however, was not looking at them – not directly. Facing their direction, he had the picture raised over his eyes’ level, and a shining smile that grew bigger as he slowly lowered the photo.

“Master and Serizawa look as happy right now as they did on this picture” Was his final sentence before handing the picture and turning to do something else, unbothered by the happy-crying mess he had made out of his master.

Like for one theres that super popular blog with the aphobic joke as their url and like, I have to wonder everytime I see a blog I follow reblog them if that person just doesnt know, is aphobic, or just doesnt care. All I know is that by sharing thier posts you are making ace people feel less safe and aphobes feel more safe on your blog.

And legit the Ace Reigen HC has been around for a long time but since the anime came back there has been a barrage of aphobia in the fandom to the point that I dont even feel comfortable going into the tags. I even saw a picture of him that was edited to say that he is aphobic. Like there are fans who hate ace people so much that they dont even want us to feel safe liking a show and will flood the tags with hostility against us to make us leave.

And that's just one show. Ace people get absolutely attacked for saying any character is ace. Like even characters who have no confirmed sexuality. It's always wrong becuase of one bs reason or another. No one bats an eye when you HC a character who has only dated/shown interest in men as a lesbian but god forbid you HC a character as ace. Ace people can't even see themselves in characters without triggering an unholy barrage of hate against them.

We can't vent about being excluded from the lgbt+ community without being called 'cringey asexies who want to be opressed and steal resources from real queer people'. We can't HC characters as ace without getting accused of being bigoted. We cant offer outreach to young people in our community without getting called predators who want to sexualize children. We cant use the word queer without being attacked. We cant make jokes about dragons or cake without getting accused of being ableist.

Like the nature of asexual discourse has legit gotten to the point where I am terrified to attend any pride event wearing ace apparel, or even mention in these circles that I'm ace. I used to be so proud of being ace and so happy to find a community that welcomed me and now I never want to tell anyone that I'm asexual. I'm ashamed of it. And I am constantly petrified that any person I think is safe is gonna turn around and start spouting aphobic rhetoric or acting like we are a joke. That's what 'the discourse' has done. It has litterally terrorized an entire generation of ace people into hiding, which is exactly what aphobes and exclusionists want.

And not to claim that there are no bad apples in our community every group has them and as far as I can tell what is left of the asexual community on tumblr has been trying to weed them out, but there are a LOT of blog pretending to be ace people in an attempt to smear us in the eyes of the public. It's incredibly common, and almost impossible to combat.

Not to mention that almost ALL ace people are ace and. Ace and bi, ace and gay, ace and aro, ace and neurodivergent, ace and a poc, ace and trans, ace and queer, ace and disabled. The stereotype of the 'cishet ace skinny rich white girl with dyed hair' is such a strawman.

And people love to take things ace people say way out of context. Ace/aro people express a desire to have more sex/romance neutral queer spaces? Suddenly we hate all gay people and think all gay bars are dens of sin and that queer people are all sexual monsters. We talk about the concept of QPRs? Well clearly we have no friends and constantly ask queer people if they are dating or in a QPR and are appropriating queer culture in am attempt to be oppressed. We come up with a unique signifier that allows ace people to subtly but proudly display thier asexuality? Nope we are just shitting all over the graves of dead gay people.

Like legit asexuality has become such a fucking joke it's nearly impossible to tell what is a legitimate problem with our community and what is just some bs that an exclusionist blog decided to come up with to fuck with us or something that was taken super out of context and turned into a joke.

Shigeo Kageyama ~

Lots of memories but I’ll list some important ones. I had a crush on Teruki, who was also nonbinary. After my experience with Mogami I became heavily uncomfortable calling Reigen “Master,” which he didn’t question and let me stop calling him that. I cussed to myself a lot, but not around others for fear of offending them. I thought of Shou like a second brother. My parents weren’t very nice or accepting of me. ???% wasn’t another being living inside me, but a deeper instinctual part of myself. I knew this because I was still partly conscious while in that state.

Most of my memories are from Breath of the Wild. While I was asleep I regained memories from past lives, making the memories from my current life even more confusing. I deeply loved Zelda, very very much. She was the only one I felt comfortable talking to (or crying around). I liked humming around her too. I ended up collecting every Silent Princess flower I found on my travels and showing them all to her when we were reunited. She was happy but started laughing because they were an endangered species and I wasn’t supposed to be picking them.

Don’t you dare talk to me about sebaciel I will kill you right then and there. In fact I despise the author of Black Butler and at least 80% of the fans. How unfortunate. I had dependent personality disorder and attached myself to Sebastian because he was my only parental figure left. Things are fuzzy, but I’m pretty sure he was killed and once he was gone from my life I finally started to recover from my trauma.

Pearl ~

I was sorta messy and all over the place. Punk but hyper feminine too. I was extremely close with Steven and we liked to fuse into Rainbow Quartz often. The large fight with Garnet never happened, but I did find myself often disassociating from the others in the group. I liked going out and exploring different human-inhabited areas. During the war I shape shifted into Rose while Pink Diamond was shattered, making people believe Rose was the one to do it. If I did it they would let me go, and I could escape to Earth.

Chat Noir (Adrien Agreste) ~

Depression and other unchecked mental illnesses™. My dad was always cold to me, even before my mother’s death.

Lithuania ~

(Lmao I haven’t watched Hetalia in years) I was very feminine. I became good friends with England, and I also ended up befriending Prussia. But there were lots of other countries I was not friendly with, including Russia.

Wow I miss Kaworu yikes. Very few memories honestly. We all returned to life and we were able to continue school, but I’m not sure if that happiness lasted forever.

Lars Barriga ~

I was a trans boy, which added a lot to my insecurity over my identity. I was bullied as a kid and my parents seemed unable to help. I spent years acting tough and masculine but I was scared and confused. I may have been aromantic. Sadie was my best friend and eventually the only one I felt comfortable opening up to. It took me forever to admit it but I was very happy Steven actually considered me a friend. I tried to refrain from being overly mean and instead pretended to be a chill person who was never awkward, but that often failed. After my death and rebirth and living with gems I became much more feminine and let that part of myself open up, instead of pushing it down, thinking it made me less of a man.

Eri ~

I was actually much older than I ever looked, due to stunted growth. I was around 15 when Midoriya first found me. I ended up living on the UA campus so that powerful superheroes could guard me and I would have access to kids my age to interact with while learning how to use my own quirk.

Steven Universe ~

Bit of a repeat from earlier, but Pearl and I were very close and we loved to form Rainbow Quartz often. Around the time I turned 14 I started wearing lots of girly clothes and flowing fabrics, and I liked putting colorful pins in my hair.

Trainer Moon ~

I had blonde hair and blue eyes, and my starter was Popplio. I was very gay for Lillie. We met up again several years after she moved away, and there was lots of happy crying. I became really close with Gladion, and he liked to confide in me and hang around me when he didn’t have much else to do.

Star Butterfly ~

Marco was a trans girl and boy was I gay for her. As a Mewman, I had sharp shark-like teeth. I had fantasies of being a rock star. I wore lots of spikes and eyeliner to try to make myself look as “punk” as possible but I could never let go of my bright colorful fashion taste.

Max Puckett ~

Gay for Isaac but too stubborn to admit it. I hated drama and really came off as rude and unsympathetic whenever I tried to avoid it.

Party Poison ~

I was gay for Show Pony (wow am I sensing a pattern here?) I sung a lot of music and always wished I had some way to record it. I had vague memories of the California coast. I never knew if they were actual childhood memories or if I’d been told stories about it and it was an image created by my mind, but I always dreamed of seeing the ocean with my own eyes. After I lost the battle, I was taken back to the city and reeducated and sedated. It must’ve been years later, it was all a blur, but I eventually managed to slip out and wandered the desert for a long time.

Danny Fenton ~

I was really more dead than alive. Phantom Planet did not happen. (Also lmao Butch Hartman can take his stupid ideas and suck on my gay nonbinary feminine ghost ectoplasm)

Mettaton ~

I became a total heartthrob on the surface and it was honestly incredible. I never strayed too far from where Napstablook was though. They really were like a little sibling to me.

Tails ~

Honestly not very many memories but I think my canon was sorta like the Sonic X anime. Also I loved him he was like a brother but Sonic was a total doofus lmao. Also we were the same age.

Vriska Serket ~

Killed off my lusus the second I knew I was capable of taking care of myself. That way I wouldn’t have to kill anymore. Tavros was an asshole to me, constantly. In fact, most of my friends were when we were younger. I stayed on the meteor with Terezi. Eventually, I navigated my way to the new universe. It took years, however.

Izuku Midoriya ~

Here we are in the barely any memories section. I do know I got into fights a lot as a kid to prove I wasn’t weak, and I ended up winning most of the time. Bakugou wasn’t that mean to me, just dismissive, which hurt because we really were friends as kids.

Luke Skywalker ~

Tooru Mutsuki ~

Trans boy, I was gay for Sasaki. Things were a lot less….. tragic overall in my canon than in the source material.

After Jack possessed me I lost my trust in him and tried to betray him. After it was all over, I was too scared of him coming back to replace the tech in my head. I just kept my eye covered. And I definitely wasn’t nearly talented enough to replace my arm by myself. That had to wait for a long while until I found the rest of the survivors again.

he’s also dysphoric and while his parents are kind of understanding he’s not always able to get the stuff that he needs to alleviate his dysphoria.

Maybe it's just me (and take this with a grain of salt as I'm a trans man), but I don't think crossdressing in media is inherently transphobic.

Sure, mob is uncomfortable in a skirt for a little while and Reigen is called a creep for his appearance. But there's a difference between a young trans girl going into her school and a grown woman going into the same school In Their Uniform. (I don't care if you're cis or trans, being a grown adult woman and sneaking into a highschool as anything but a teacher is... Not a smart move)

Who's to say those cops didn't assume mob was a trans girl? And it's not like mob was super grossed out by being in a dress, he seemed reasonably comfortable. He just didn't want to be doing what he was doing. You can be uncomfortable in a dress as a guy and not be transphobic.

Ritsu is a different person who is pretty insecure throughout the series and from what you can see in the show, he's the only guy in his class that's uncomfortable with the idea of wearing a dress.

I understand that the idea of characters being uncomfortable crossdressing has been used as a gag a lot in media, but there's more concerning things to worry about than whether or not someone does a "guy in a dress" gag.

I personally found the jokes... Okay? Like they weren't the funniest thing in the world but they aren't hurting anyone. As a guy who Likes wearing dresses? Seeing the other characters in that scene be pretty comfortable made me feel pretty happy to be honest.

Tldr: we have worse slights to worry about as a community, Japan has different ideas of what's funny, and guys being uncomfortable in certain clothes doesn't hurt anyone. The Kageyama brothers are repressed and sneaking into a highschool as an adult ought to require a teacher disguise.

mob psycho 100 season 3 will have transmisogyny.

hey guys. i hate to be the buzzkill especially while i’m so stoked for season 3 but this is important and i haven’t seen anyone say it in a while. so i’m going to say it now.

mob psycho 100 is transmisogynistic. season 3 will be no different.

i’m sure most of you remember the highly problematic segment from back in season one where reigen and mob “infiltrate a girls’ school”. i’m happy to say that’s the most severe it gets, but unfortunately season 3 will see a return of “crossdressing” as a joke. from what i have read, episode 2 will feature the culture festival, which manga readers may remember has several jokes about ritsu and his classmates dressing up as french maids. and i can’t believe i have to say this, but this is not an okay thing.

this is hard for me to say - after all, mob psycho 100 is my favorite anime ever. but if we make exceptions for problematic content just because we like the source material then it will never get better.

i implore all fans of mp100 to spread the word about this and i implore trans fans - specifically trans women and transfem fans - to speak out about their feelings. the more we spread awareness of the harm inherent to these kinds of jokes, the more people will learn, and the fewer instances of these jokes we will see.
