MacCready Fanfiction Recs (Fallout 4)

hey everybody, nobody asked for this but in the midst of writing fallout fanfic I was feeling a special kind of love for my favorite fo4 fanfics and wanted to recommend them in case you hadn't read 'em. Because they are VERY GOOD and writing fanfic is hard, so you gotta give props to those who sweat for your comfort fics.

I'm gonna recommend my top three finished fanfics, and then two more bonus fics that are being updated rn. As a clarifier, these are all Maccready fallout 4 fics. so. keep that in mind.

3. THE FATHER(S) AND THE SON(S) on ao3 by @sirmanmister

I'm going to preface this rec by saying this: there is Fanon MacCready. There is canon MacCready. And then there is ascended!whatBethesdawishesitWAS MacCready, which exists solely in this fanfiction. The characterization of Mac is so well written. He is snarky, he is vulnerable. He desperately wants to grow up but doesn't know how. He has the most sick character arc in this story!!!

It's not a romance but instead a coming of age story where the sole survivor becomes a de-facto parent to Mac. The heart of the story is about how to raise a child while you're still trying to grow up yourself. The apocalypse setting lends itself well because the Wasteland is a place where NOTHING is beautiful, but the way that M!Sosu and MacCready care for their sons is beautiful. Which makes it special and worth fighting for.

As a fun fact, I read The Road by Cormac McCarthy for class a week after finishing this fic and I was thinking about this fic the whole time because the themes of fatherhood during an apocalypse hit a lot of the same beats. Maybe my professor would kick me in the teeth by comparing fic to McCarthy, but @sirmanmister YOU ARE MY CORMAC MCCARTHY <3

2. WORKING CLASS HERO on ao3 by @bluegrasskitty

This is the kind of fic you take with you to toilet, to work, in-between classes. It will suck you in. AND THERE'S A SEQUEL TOO YOU GUYS‼️

The sole survivor in this story is the model for the Nuka Cola girl. You know the hot lady in the spacesuit? SHE HAS A BACKSTORY. AND YALL IT MADE ME WEEP. During some point of the story, I sort of stopped rooting for MacCready to be the narrator and just wanted Nora Cabot to take the reins. When I tell you I think of this oc every two to three business weeks. She's an incredible leading lady. I can't look at Nuka Girl posters in the game without thinking of Nora Cabot, my beloved.

the sequel IS SO FIRE. It's the best reimagining of 'what happened after the institute blew up' that I've ever read. im gnawing at the bars of my enclosure actually.

A VERY GOOD PLOT TWIST I CANNOT MENTION TO NEW READERS BUT IF YOU'VE READ IT YOU'LL UNDERSTAND. AND IF YOU UNDERSTAND DM ME I HAVE TO TALK TO SOMEBODY ABOUT IT. HHh.

The amount of world building that @bluegrasskitty puts into this story is insane. They ARE Beth Esda.

As a fun fact, I didn't know that radchickens were canon in fallout. I thought it was a plot device made up by this author to excuse the ability to make cake in this book, but radchickens ARE real. When I was playing Far Harbor last year, I found radchickens and thought that @bluegrasskitty manifested them into existence because they had that kind of power.

that being said, I still think this author has that kind of power.

1. Atom Bomb Baby on ao3 by @starlightwrites

I think you dropped something....my jaw.

fellas. fellas. this is my comfort fic. You ever had a comfort fic? Something you come back to at least once a year to reread to feel something? the fiction equivalent of chicken noodle soup? this is what Atom Bomb Baby is to me. this is peak literature actually. if I ever figure out book binding, im doing this one first.

Plot wise, it's a retelling of Fallout 4's main story through the perspective of MacCready. But (and im wheezing as I say this) it's also so much more THAN THAT.

this fic author understands that MacCready is not a womanizer but is in fact a touch starved loser. and they are CORRECT.

MacCready spends the entire fic like 'uuuhhhh I dunno about this one, boss!'

ITS BEST FRIENDS TO LOVERS RAHHHHHH

it also has a nostalgia feel to me too, because reading it gives me the same feeling as what it was like to play the game for the first time, years ago. maybe it's because I've read it so many times over the years, but reading it feels so satisfying.

The author spends 10 chapters at the end solely dedicated to an epilogue. I wish more stories did this. They go through the wringer in this story, and it's so deeply satisfying to see how cleanly everything gets wrapped up. MacCready and the Lola work really well together as a couple, so it's awesome to see how they work together after the battle is done.

BONUS FICS !! aka fics that are still updating! I squeal with joy when I get an ao3 email about these: 1. Best Laid Plans on ao3 by @druidgroves - Georgia Tate is an incredible character and sole survivor! She was a teacher prewar, so it's really fun to get her perspective on the world. She cares a lot about education and libraries and I find her really relatable and endearing. It's a cool thing for a character in an apocalypse to care about! It also makes for fun tension with Mac, who's written as a pragmatic survivor. A great take on familiar characters and their dynamics. - And It's a great slow burn! I'm really enjoying reading it. 2. Long Time Running on ao3 by @twosides--samecoin - If you've ever thought that Med-Tek was too convenient an option for Duncan's cure, this fic was written with you in mind. - RJ goes to Canada and im obsessed with it. - If you're interested in fallout lore, specifically the bit where the U.S annexed Canada and wished that there was more info about that, I would highly recommend this fic. Twosides--samecoin put in THE WORK. The world building they do to explain Canada's side of the Great War is so fun!!! its genuinely such a thrill to read!

The Undersiders' hangout sounds about like what I'd expect, although the whole "abandoned factory beneath the loft" part I think escaped me before. Very Lost Boys of them

...I have to imagine it smells at least a little rank in there. Two teenage boys, plus dog smell, and I can't imagine Rachel is super observant of her hygiene, and I don't know enough about Tattletale to say whether she's bad about cleanliness but even if she was that's one against, I dunno, six if you count the dogs. Maybe they invest part of the team budget into Febreze or something

Insane that a Ward like, is actively trying to murder someone. What kind of beef does Sophi Shadow Stalker even have with Brian?

I feel some kind of sadness at how young Brian is and how much he acts like an adult. There's almost never a happy story behind kids or teenagers who act that way. It'd be nice if he got more opportunities to relax and act his age, buuuut I don't think this is that kind of story

What a cool power though, honestly. I know the migraines are a motherfucker and I'd probably be a huge baby about that if I had to deal with it, but just shortcutting so much guesswork about like, everything with people and things

Kuai Liang was very young when the Lin Kuei took him so everything he learned about violence and whether or not it is appropriate he learned from the Lin Kuei. Given how much they discouraged affection and attachment, this basically means that the only way he knows to express how much he cares about someone is by doing something violent on their behalf.

He gave Hanzo a severed head once and was very disappointed when Hanzo did not immediatly understand that as a declaration of undying love.

Hanzo on the other hand joined the Shirai Ryu as a teenager and there's a whole set of courting customs that the clan has. One of those customs, in my headcanon, is making a mask for your partner as like an engagement ring (also based on some of Hanzo's masks and the one we see Takeda wearing, I hc that Shirai Ryu masks always look like teeth, so if you've seen that one mask Kuai Liang has that looks like icy fangs set into black metal, yk what I'm referring to)

Hanzo gave Kuai Liang that mask after the rest of his little gestures went unnoticed and when he saw the cryomancer put it on for the first time, he was Affected By The Sight.

They also cannot keep their hands off of each other, like besides Hanzo just being tactile, these two will makeout Anywhere. It is a miracle they haven't been walked in on yet

Hanzo is really fond of kissing Kuai Liang's scars (and he has A Lot of them) and has memorized the stories behind each one.

Kuai Liang once slept with Johnny Cage (many years ago) and Hanzo still hasn't gotten over it, so, naturally, Kuai Liang likes to tease him about it every chance he gets.

Hanzo is Besotted, too, like he just has constant heart eyes whenever Kuai Liang is around. Takeda swears that if he has to telepathically overhear Hanzo was poetic about Kuai Liang's ass one more time he's gonna stage a coup.

Kuai Liang goes to visit Harumi's grave a lot, even when Hanzo isn't with him, telling her all about how Hanzo is doing and recounting the stories about her and Satoshi that Hanzo has told him.

Hanzo set up a grave for Kuai Liang's parents and sister amongst the Shirai Ryu graveyard so that Kuai Liang could mourn them away from the Lin Kuei temple, as the old Lin Kuei were the ones that killed them.

Hanzo also has frequent nightmares about the tournament in mk9 but with Kuai Liang being there instead of Bi-Han this time, and won't calm down afterwards until he has his ear pressed to Kuai Liang's heartbeat.

The start of their alliance was really difficult, not bc of lingering animosity, but bc Kuai Liang is so used to being used that he cannot fathom anyone not doing that. Hanzo was really hostile until he picked up on that and that's when they started to become friends bc Hanzo started trying to help the cryomancer break that habit

SPEAKING of noxus-- ambessa just looks so fucking powerful and cool in all her outfits. the hair disc crown she wears is SO cool, the weights on the end of her braids when she's in combat so that her braids act as little weapons too?!?!!? just incredible character design she's so intimidating and badass and her SWORD IS SO COOL

I have been boycotting merch and music (focused on hybe) since november 2023 and don't plan to change that but i just can't get past the thought of abandoning the idols completely like i don't think they deserve to pay for their companies' misdoings (bts is my ult but i'm talking about smaller, younger groups who don't have as much voice or pull in their companies). i also think it's a bit of a slippery slope to say that i care about idols but will boycott their content entirely to punish their company because then their situations will probably get worse if there are large monetary hits. idk i'm trying to find a way to teach these companies a lesson especially in terms of zionist involvement and not punishing mostly innocent idols that just want to live out their dreams and had to compromise and sacrifice so much to make that happen.

yeah i think it's something that's been on my mind lately... i don't know where this boycott will lead us in many ways. in fact, this is something that i think we all agree on that is we didn't exactly want to get to this point in the first place because it's obvious we want to support our faves we want them to succeed like any other fan but the problem is that the money we put into supporting them, a percentage of it at least, will go to zionists and it truly sucks! as much as i love these groups, i cannot be indifferent to this! and i mean, all the industry is gonna go through this eventually because there are a lot of ceos that are directly funding the iof and that is also starting to gain traction and i imagine a lot of people will join soon but i guess that's something that we all think about it's how these groups, especially the groups that are gonna debut, will not be as successful because people are boycotting and it's because of their company. i'm sure this will be something we will have to navigate eventually and i see where you are coming from because i think about that all the time but at the end of the day, we need to do something since this is an issue that is bigger than the music industry even and so that's why i just keep pushing it. i don't want money from music to fund the genocide of Palestinians in fact, it makes me sad how so many people in artistic fields are actively funding and supporting a genocide. art is an escape to many people and as human, it's what makes you make sense of your own reality and emotions i just feel like it's so cruel that something like us supporting an artist's music that money is going directly to kill people it makes no sense to me and it pains me a lot. i don't wanna ramble more but i think it's important to not lose sight of what and why this is being done and it doesn't mean we don't exactly care about these idols but they aren't exactly the priority rn but in a way this will help the future of the music industry to be better and that also includes them but it's obvious that main focus is getting rid of zionism

i think a lot of things went wrong with bbg:

1) i think if louis + band had actually not communicated about it being not real and louis actually tried to play a dad for the first two years, then they could have easily ended it by latest 2017 with a paternity test. because they were communicating and all of these "theories" are wild and A LOT of people are aware of this "conspiracy" I believe this is why they cannot end it smoothly because they know we are gonna go "i told you so" and then it's gonna be another hot cup of worms.

2) at the same time I also think his personal losses affect him mentally to be putting his energy into this and that's why it didn't happen immediately?

3) do you think the contract has an end date? at this point I'm afraid it doesn't have an end date and they keep renewing it of some sort.

4) i am a quarantine larrie but i have heard many many times that there were seedings of it ending in 2016 and 2018 and even at the time around early 2020? but after I have joined the fandom i haven't seen any such signs of the bg ending. it has just amplified.

5) altho at the same time i do feel there have been contrasting changes to bg then vs bg now, louis is more involved and the clarks are not followers hungry as they used to be? B's instagram is also bare minimum (just a couple pics of F and i don't follow her so idk what goes onto her stories but i think she doesn't post a lot of F; ofc cause she has her life and she's not a mother)

6) in the past couple years i have actually sat back and thought if im sane about it or not or if louis was actually the father but then immediately i recognise that nope, above anything I know that woman was not pregnant aka no baby came out of her vagina and it's all bullshit. ofc they are other proofs of him not being a father but this tops them all. and it's also laughable how the sisters don't have any other pics of F apart from the christmas stunts.

I think bg was something so horrible and traumatic to Louis (and the rest of the band) that the only thing he really considered was fighting back with everything he had. H and L had tried to position themselves to get more freedom within their closets, and this was undring everything they'd worked for. So it was important for him to show those who sees him for who he is, and sees and support his relationship with H, that it was not real. It's not who he is. He didn’t have a choice when it came to participating, but he could restist, resist and resist as much as possible. If he hadn't, and he played willingly along to really sell it, he'd be miserable, H would be miserable and larries would have left the fandom in droves. He'd have no fans to launch his solo career with. He'd have no support.

I don't know when it will end, it doesn’t seem like it's ending anytime soon, but then again bg could end at any time. It doesn’t need seeding. But if it ends, there's nothing stopping us larries from being very vocal about it and the larry rumours coming back again. L would be halfway out of the closet and dragging H along with him. So i think it will last until they're allowed to come out. I don't know when that will be.

Damn, making a poll was kinda genius, but at the same time evil because now i cannot pick more than one... IF I COULD vote for more than one, i would have picked 1, 2, 5, 7-8-9 and 12!

And for some thoughts (because OF COURSE i have some of those)...

#2- Leo dealing with the aftermaths of dying is such a great idea, and a great opportunity to showcase some ptsd, and i'm thinking, maybe there's a way to tie it in with some unresolved past trauma he still carries? Like, realising what he's going through rn is actually ptsd, and then this helps him realise some stuff about what he has already been going through eversince his mom's death, with the nightmares and the guilt and the flashbacks and yada yada. And also i really like this au/headcanon floating around of Leo having physical burn scars and/or loosing a leg or arm in the explosion (and replacing it with a mechanical one?!), and i think it could tie really well with the theme of #2? Aaaand i know this one was not in the Valgrace category, but i think adding Valgrace to this one would be sooo goooood, like, Leo struggling and Jason helping him out and being so gentle and patient and understanding about all of it. And even better, maybe this fic is post-Jason's death from toa, but Jason has also just been brought back *somehow*, and now both boys struggle with this, and it somehow brings them closer, they both learn to help each other through their struggles and deal together and and and i just got emotional. (Alright, i am aware this might have gotten quite far from what you originally intended with this fic, so feel free to ignore me). 

#5- this sounds like the sweetest oneshot ever, i wanna read this so bad. Like i'm thinking, Jason might not have been exposed to those kind of events before, and it's his first pride, and while he's there he suddenly just has this epiphany of "wow i've never felt more right and accepted and included than how i feel right now" and Leo is so happy for his boyfriend feeling so right and they hold hands and Leo kisses Jason's hand and Jason just holds him tight and kisses his forehead as a response, and everything around them is so awesome, people are so nice and the costumes and the music and the parade just makes you smile and laugh like it's freedom, and they both feel so happy and free, and it's the fluffiest fluff that has ever fluffed. 

#7-8-9- honestly those could all be the same fic just different moments, it would work so well together. (Also, IS THIS WHAT YOU TALKED ABOUT IN YOUR REBLOG A FEW DAYS AGO? ABOUT JASON TAKING LEO'S LAST NAME???? cause i have not forgotten about this i'm gonna keep thinking about it until you post it.)

And last but not least, #12- DUDE THIS IDEA IS GENIUS. Were you planning on writing only when they were kids on the run, or did you want to write present day teenagers but with this specific backstory? (Both sounds amazing btw) I wonder if it would work though? Luke turning Leo against the gods i mean. I also wonder if Luke would also try to turn Annabeth against them as well? (I don't think he did it in canon before tlt, or maybe he tried but it didn't work?) I think you'd have to change the timeline a bit, since Leo's mom died a few years after Annabeth Luke and Thalia arrived to camp, but it could totally work with a few tweeks. OOOH I JUST HAD A THOUGHT do you think in that case that Annabeth and Leo would join the Titan Army? And fight against CHB? We'd have some dark!Leo and dark!Annabeth opportunities.... Or even sadder, only Leo joins, Annabeth stays at camp like in canon, and Annabeth looses her childhood best friend as well as her big brother figure. (Does that means Leo meets Percy for one brief summer when they were 11-12?) Cause i think, yes Leo would follow Luke in part because he is incredibly loyal, but more than that, if he had been raised by Luke to put the blame of his mother's death on someone else, i don't think he'd be able to refuse to follow Luke, cause rejecting Luke would mean Luke was wrong, and so if Luke os wrong then Hephaestus might not be to blame, and so Leo would have nobody else but himself to blame, and by that point he's just 12yo and it's way to hard to accept any of that. But that brings us to an incredible opportunity for some kind of grand redemption arc, where he joins Luke when he's 12, and then a few years later when he's older he starts to realise Luke is wrong and what happened to his mom wasn't Hephaestus's fault, and in the middle of the arc he starts to put the blame on himself (because that's what Leo does) and this gets super angsty and really dark for a while because Leo knows now he's not on the right side of things and he blames himself for what he's doing for Luke and he also blames himself for his mother's death but he can't change the past and can't leave Luke now he's in too deep and he doesn't see how to get out of this.... But eventually for x y z reason he starts to accept that what happened to him was no more his fault than his father's, and he finds the courage to leave Luke and join back CHB and to forgive himself. (Maybe those *reasons* could have to do with meeting some handsome blond demigod from another camp idk just spitballing here - even Leo meeting Piper somehow and they become instant friends but then she joins CHB so he has to rethink everything he thinks he knows, etc etc).

Category 1- ANGST:

1. Ok not too many spoilers for this one but it’s SUPER angsty. All I can say is Leo faces a very creative punishment from Nemesis for cheating the prophecy and coming back to life, and it’s called “The only sad person in paradise” (undertones of Valgrace).

2. Leo deals with coping with the trauma of dying. LOT of angsty headcanons, including one where the design for the chb bead for the summer hoo is set in was the moment of Leo’s death. And he just has to keep that around his neck the whole time, and it’s chocking him. The opening line is “Every so often, Leo needed to remind himself that his heart was still beating.”

3. A curse befalls camp half-blood that’s slowly reversing the effects of their powers. Hecate cabin’s spells are being undone, plants are un-growing, arms healed by Apollo cabin are re-breaking. Magic is being unwound, and then Leo’s body starts to ache, and he realises… does that include a certain Physician’s Cure?

Category 2- VALGRACE

4. Platonic Valgrace (Romance implied)- “Never go to bed angry”- Leo and Jason have an argument on the Argo II. Jason thinks Leo won’t understand him because he’s never had to live up to the expectations of leadership that come with being a child soldier. Leo thinks Jason won’t understand him because he’s never had to fend for himself, he believes everything Jason has is because of who his father is. They storm off (Jason in the literal sense), argue with themselves for a bit- I did a really cool thing where I switch POVs every line or so, as their arguments parallel each other, like in a TV show where two characters are rehearsing a conversation with the other, but using the HOO multiple-POV thing- and then they go to sleep. They both have weird vision/flashbacks/prophetic dreams, where they experience a day in the other’s childhood. They then realise they completely misunderstood one another, and they’re not as different as they thought.

5. Jason and Leo go to New York pride. That’s the whole fic.

6. Instead of… whatever that ending to BOO was, the Gods reward Leo for his sacrifice by bringing Esperanza Valdez back to life. She thanks Jason for taking care of Leo while she was gone, and they have a heart-to-heart. They are officially boyfriends in this. Jason keeps being reminded of his own reunion with Thalia, and how Leo had stayed with him through that. He vows to do the same.

Category 3- MARRIED VALGRACE:

7. Leo and Jason get married (A classic “Wedding Episode”)

8. Just a fic describing married life with Leo and Jason- it’s called “Violets and Marigolds”

9. A fic from the POV of Leo and Jason’s kid, Isabella Valdez. Some angst, but I don’t have the full plot outlined yet. She’s adopted, and they don’t know her true godly heritage, and Leo suspects she might be mortal, and maybe Lupa made a mistake. Leo and Jason argue over whether she should join the Legion (They’re living in New Rome). Leo struggles with his fear of hurting the people he loves with his powers.

Category 4- MISCELLANEOUS:

10. Platonic Perleo- Percy and Leo get captured by government agents and have to escape Area 51 (Vaguely inspired by an episode of Helluva Boss)- VERY NERDY. This is a very fun one.

11. Leo talks to Hestia about… life, I guess. I started writing this while still on TLH and never found an ending, but it’s a good concept. Leo learns to accept his powers as something that can be good, when he only sees the bad. Hestia tells him “If fire was only about danger and destruction, then it would be the symbol of Ares, not Hephaestus.”

12. Thalia, Luke and Annabeth find little Leo while on the run. Leo and Annabeth bond over engineering. Luke tries to use Leo’s trauma as leverage to get Leo angry at the Gods. He tries to put the blame of Leo’s mom’s death on Hephaestus, since he’s responsible for giving Leo his powers. He points out how the Gods are all-powerful, and yet they leave the four of them- their own children- to starve on the streets. Leo in canon harbours a lot of resentment for his situation growing up, and Luke could easily spin that to justify his own anger.

Both Ingo and Emmet are autistic, Emmet also has ADHD.

Emmet is a trans bi man and Ingo is genderfluid and unlabeled, though he’s fine with using gay or queer as umbrella terms to describe his attraction.

Their parents intended for their starters to be Klink, however Ingo ended up befriending a Litwick at school and brought it home, and Emmet snuck out and caught a Joltik about a week before their 10th birthday.

Their birthday is May 20th.

Ingo was planned, Emmet was not. 

Emmet’s generally a nice person, but if you tick him off he’s going to start throwing rocks. If you specifically target his brother, he’s going to start aiming for the head.

Ingo has brain damage from an incident involving construction work and wild Durants tunneling. Neither of the twins blame the Durants for the incident, Emmet eventually adopting one of them onto his team.

Ingo’s Fraxure evolved into Haxorus during the aforementioned incident.

Emmet will not go to sleep until Ingo does.

Emmet will also check on his brother throughout the night.

Their family has a history of addiction so Ingo has Emmet hold onto his painkillers as a precaution. Problem is Ingo’s stubborn as hell and will put off taking any until he’s incapacitated.

Both Ingo and Emmet are partially deaf, with Emmet’s being train related and Ingo’s being blunt force head trauma related.

Both boys have commitment issues but for entirely different reasons. 

Emmet got asked out a lot in middle school as a joke. Had a girl date him for a month in high school but only because she lost a bet. Turns out if you get told repeatedly that someone wanting to date you is “embarrassing” you start to believe you’re unlovable. 

Ingo struggles a lot with hypersexuality and being sex repulsed. He’s definitely slept around and has had a few flings, for better or for worse. The idea of someone wanting to stay in a relationship with him is scary.

Both boys have also been called “robotic” as an insult so they’ve internalized that shit too.

Ingo has cried about Daisy Bell and will cry again.

Ingo was a very sickly child but got better by his teens.

Emmet sometimes forgets that he’s the younger twin out of the two of them.

Ingo puts too much thought into how to express himself and it often comes off as ingenuine or strained, Emmet doesn’t have this problem, but he’s really good at repressing his emotions.

Emmet relies on Ingo to know how to respond to a social situation. Emmet only really laughs at a joke if Ingo laughs first, otherwise it just doesn’t occur to him that that’s how he’s “supposed” to react.

Emmet has. many. MANY problems with Clay’s gym layout.

Ingo has eisoptrophobia, which is horribly ironic given that he’s an identical twin. He tends to avoid elevators despite Emmet telling him not to.

Emmet on the other hand is deathly afraid of squirrels. He watched an emolga scurry off with the corpse of a patrat and he has not been the same since. Yes this affects his relationship with Elesa he cannot be in the same room as her pokemon he will v*mit and Cry.

Emmet had to go through speech therapy for a number of years. He's also selectively mute and knows sign language.

Ingo really likes theatre

Ingo also really enjoys fashion.

Ingo skipped a grade as he was the uhh Gifted Kid(tm) and this went well for a while until he had a mental breakdown in high school and his parents had to pull him from the system and essentially force him to drop out (he wouldve worked himself to death otherwise)

During their school years the boys were admittedly kind of distant. They didn't hate each other there just, wasnt really a bond between them at that point.

Both started working at gear station at 16, Emmet started first and Ingo joined him not too long after, which rekindled their bond.

This is all I can think of rn this has been in my drafts for months I'm just gonna post it.

Welcome to another segment of 'I think way too hard about Cap's AUs and then send them an essay about it'

So I was thinking about kwami personalities recently, mainly Ziggy but that's irrelevant rn. My line of thinking about the kwami lead me to think about NSS and what the kwamis would do if free.

And then I thought. 'Hold on, would the kwamis go to their cannon holders?"

I got to thinking and I realised that yes, most would. Trixx, Wayzz, Pollen, Longg, Ziggy, Daizzi, Barkk and Xuppu would all probably go to their respective cannon users. Their personalities match and they get along.

But the rest of the kwamis I'm not sure about.

With Stompp and Orikko it's more the fact that we know jack shit about their personalities so I'll skip them.

Fluff probably already knows that Alix is her holder because of time travel or whatever. Fluff is probably omniscient, dont fuck with Fluff.

Mullo, Roaar, Kaalki, and Sass dont have personalities that particularly match their cannon holders.

Mullo is a prankster and loves to have fun. In Mega Leech we see Mylene afraid of him. Mullo and Mylene do not have personalities that work well together. So why would Mullo choose Mylene?

Roaar is very bold and confident. In Crocoduel we see Roaar test Juleka to see how loud she can be. Roaar seems like an adventurous type. Juleka, at least during season 2, is very not that. Juleka is quiet and anxious and litterally the opposite of what Roaar is. So why would Roarr choose Juleka?

To me, Sass seems like the kwami who would choose not to have a holder. He would bury his miraculous under a Bush or something and go around and ensure the rest of the kwamis are safe. He acts like the leader of the kwamis, so why would he choose to have a holder at all? And if he does, why would it be Luka?

And Kaalki.

Kaalki is proper and prideful. She wants a user who is 'glorious and famous'. While she doesnt refuse to work with Max, I cannot accept that Kaalki would willingly choose Max. Max is a scrawny nerd who builds robots, definently not what Kaalki is looking for. Why would Kaalki choose Max?

Sorry if I'm being overbearing here. I think about this AU quite a bit since the concept is so cool and these things just pop into my head. I just wanted to share my thoughts and see what you think about it.

also, a general note about the commentary: sometimes, the commentary around michèle and fabrizia can get... weird. keep in mind, they were the most prominent female team partnership around that time, and the first to nearly clinch a wrc wdc, and to modern ears, the commentators really didn't know how to act around them. personally, it wasn't horrible for me, i just ignored the weirder bits, but i understand if others might find it off-putting. also for the sake of your sanity don't read the comments.

comments: this was definitely a rally for most of audi sport's drivers to forget: bar stig blomqvist, who came quite close to the podium finishers with a 4:14:01 to henri toivonen's 4:12:57! both hannu mikkola and michèle mouton had to retire from the race, which may lead you to wonder: why does this rank among my favorites? well, it's always fun to watch group b rally cars sailing through the air against picturesque scenery, and this video also contains an intriguing (at least for me!) look at the scrutineering process, with drivers at their most casual.

comments: hannu winning by 11 whole minutes even after rolling his car in the middle of the forest is actual legend behavior! anyway this was michèle's first wrc outing in britain, and even though she and fabrizia had to retire, they still did quite well, consistently running high in the leaderboards after the first few stages. and that's considering the fact that michèle had a bad cold for much of the rally and had to ask fabrizia to drive the car to service park for her at one point bc she was so tired. which fabrizia did... with a pencil in her mouth. lot of big names in one video—also, jean todt makes an appearance as a co-driver!

comments: ok can i just say how stunning the video presentation is?? the opening sequence is just!!! the shots of the wildlife! the sprinting giraffes! wow! anyway the visual of drivers in deck chairs just tickles me for no reason, and michèle please tell me what you ask for at the hairdresser's and also where you got that orange blouse (this is obviously not just specific to this rally, she always eats and leaves no crumbs). this was michèle's first entry and only finish in kenya (and of course it was a podium mwah). it was also her last wrc entry in the A1 quattro, as she switched to the A2 for the rest of her program in the '83 season. also this is one of my favorite podium pictures ever.

lksdjffnnkd there's almost too much to unpack... fabrizia somehow surviving in high waist jeans in a hot car... michèle's do-it-yourself shorts... this podium picture was the subject of a very frantic video chat conversation between myself and a friend at 2am a few months ago

comments: GOD I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH AAAA! michèle's first podium of '82 being a win? this rally being the one where there's footage of her going shopping with fabrizia afterward? (more on that later) them winning by 13 whole minutes? and that's not even considering THEE most poetic victory ceremony of all time! in fact let me talk about that bc the racing and the win aside, that's why it's so high up on my list! literally poetic cinema! it's night, they're standing on top of the car and floodlit and surrounded by cheering crowds but they may as well be the only ones there in their own little world, laughing at each other and barely even having to look to each other when they're raising their hands—like god! shut up! we get it you're besties 😭

comments: firstly, if you were to ask me about my dream podium, this would be it. hands down, across all series of motorsport, my comfort podium would be hannu, michèle, and henri in any order. (there's such a cute picture of them from this rally on pinterest, standing in order on a staircase. henri is not looking at the camera because he is laughing at something michèle is saying and it's such a Vibe but i cannot find it wah). the battle for second between michèle and henri ran down to literally the last stage, and their times are separated by seconds, which is just wild to me. the context of this rally deserves another post, which i honestly don’t have the energy to make rn, but just take my word for it that it threatens to destroy me if i think about it too hard! anyway this is just such an awesome rally and i’ve watched this video so many times haha

i love this rally so much that i actually had a character in a story i was writing attend the ceremony captured in this picture as a small child and made it a formative moment in her life. no, there is nothing wrong with me.

Bannnnnn I tried to draw the Jekyll brothers but Kent? Is inconsistent? The database (what I use) showd him as a clean shaven guy with a bit messy hair but google is showing Kent as a completely different model? Neat hair, Brokenshire beard. Also I've been thimking about Henry wearing a mask +plus ponytail to hide his identity like for the past two days. Yknow those theater masks? The weeping and laughing? He wears the sad one while in the Blighters and Templars and the happy one while in the Rooks because hes a dramatic theater nerd. Also! I like to think that if Jekyll has to be a templar he'd still wear the Blighter uniform when he could and pretend hes not high ranking. He gets away with it because Crawford doesn't care about him and Roth lives for chaos

EITHER WAY OH MY GOD IT LOOKS AAMZING. I love??? How you gave all three individual personalities in just a single picture??? Kent looks like he is seconds away from murder and I LOVE Henry in the templar outfit, it fits him so well??? Man I really want to start thinking more of this branch. Would the entire Jekyll family be Templars so the trio got that role inherited? Are Raphael and Kent unidentical twins and Henry is the odd-one-out because he is the youngest? Were the three of them really close in Scotland, but left as soon as possible bc their family was abusive, only for Kent and Raphael to find refuge in the Templar Order while Henry goes to university? Would they still have that brotherly love if they were close as kids even when they are in the Order, or would they have a falling out and start despising each other (or Jekyll @ the older brothers at least)? Would Raphael and Kent secretly be protective of Henry and manage to keep him out of Starrick's line-of-sight so that Henry won't get in trouble for defying orders/ignoring them? Would they force Henry to join the Templars with threats or would Henry mostly feel obligated to join them? Since the Templar Order isn't illegal in London, would other people know that Jekyll is a Templar, or would he keep it hidden from the public? Would his brothers help hide his identity?? SO many questions and I'm so sad I won't be able to discuss them with you :'c

(also can I just say I love the poetic differences between their clothing. Raphael is just wearing a waistcoat/basic clothes and he is a brute and more open, Kent is wearing more clothes/layering up and he is the "brains" out of the two of them, Jekyll is wearing the most layers and is almost trying to hide himself and I just... *chief's kiss*)

Henry being a dramatic theater nerd and stealing Roth's costume supplies to hide his identity bc he is so ashamed of it and doesn't want people he knows to know about it my beloved <3 Plus the blighter uniforms doesn't look too far off of what he normally wears so he could probably use that as an excuse whenever some other Templar gets up his ass about not wearing the right clothes, yet it still doesn't make Henry feel any better knowing he has to bear the knowledge that he is actively wearing discreet blighter clothes to keep the Order happy and the public oblivious, knowing what cause he is reluctantly supporting. (him joining the rooks and suddenly coming into the Society all dressed in green lol)

Anyways I have now also decided that Maxwell and Henry are friends bc they both hate the Templars and Crawford and Henry gets to star in many of the plays he sets up. Plus they are both slightly insane so they match each other good.

YKNOW WHAT I WAS DAYDREAMING ABOUT WHILE BRUSHING MY TEETH RIGHT AFTER THIS ASK? Jekyll being forced to be the one to murder his brothers and the twins trying to track the murderer down just to know who tf are killing their targets, conveniently at the same time Maxwell starts meeting Jacob. Henry watching Jacob from afar getting smitten by him but keeping a distance bc he knows Maxwell is possessive, Jacob being the first to befriend Henry after Maxwell explains that both of them are against the Templars and Crawford, Jacob saving Henry during the fire of the theater? Thank god bc here I was imagining an age gap of like idk 15 years bc of the differences in the timeline but! I'm just going to keep the canonical age difference while also shoot the timeline up a lil so that the events of Syndicate and TGS takes place at the same time but they are the right age and stuff, just bc I do not like Evie's and Jacob's older designs and I do not want to imagine them meeting during the Ripper dlc <3 Also the thought of Jacob being older than Henry is funny. They are so fucking bad and I'm going to scourage the Nexus to see if I can find any good redesign mods because they are so fucking bad. But to be fair, all female main characters' outfits are bad. Pearl? Lucy Thorne? Mfs looks like vampires. Even more reasons for why I only play Jacob, bc all other outfits on Evie are bad <3
