Love for Love's Sake Ep 7 Stray Thoughts
Yesterday, the game started falling apart around Myungha, and it was scary as hell. His latest mission was to get Yeowoon to 100,000 IG followers. After getting help from Sangwon's mom, Yeowoon's stalker came out of hiding and tried to snatch Myungha's phone. Sangwon berated Myungha for his behavior, and Myungha is being more direct with Yeowoon. We left on a pretty effed cliffhanger where Myungha has 24 hours to decide if his grandmother or Yeowoon should die, but I know my boy will defy fate.
In my feelings about my grandmother again. She also gave me advice before the end.
Episode 7: Choices
Yeowoon brought the apricots! 😭
I was wondering how they would use the countdown clock, and I like the choice to knock him down to 15 days. I almost wonder if the game isn't actually falling apart and this is designed for the drama.
That was a little fast, but showing Myungha choosing to abandon happiness in a vacuum but choosing Myungha in a real scenario is excellent. He didn't even hesitate.
Even if he's mostly inviting the friends over because he's worried about Yeowoon, Myungha is so right that you have to work on your friendships too. You can still have couple time later, but you gotta keep your friends involved.
I like that Sangwon and Yeowoon still pick at each other.
You love your blorbo, but do you trust him? Will you be vulnerable with him?
Oooh, I like the pen as a reward for changing anything. It's giving Vlad saying he wants to write the ending.
Yeowoon asking all the right questions, and leading to the heart of it. Happiness is more than a momentary surge of feelings from a nice treat or a kiss. It's grounded in emotional security with those we value.
Now you're making your blorbo cry! Where is Yamada? She needs to come yell at this broody boy, too!
I usually hate these kinds of breakups in romance stories, but I like the way Myungha's cowardice plays into the game mechanics for this one. It's reminding me of Lito in Sense8.
Deleted? What did you write??
I love seeing the world literally fall apart because Myungha can't be emotionally honest with Yeowoon.
Another great cliffhanger.
This has been so excellent. It's so enjoyable having a show with clear character writing and a good understanding of its core conflict. The original trailer really didn't set me up for this, but this has been a very pleasant surprise. I am thriving.

Entirely self indulgent rating post about the top 10 TV shows that made me fucking insane for some reason
10. Sense8
God, this was so good. Such a blessing. I saw part of the cast during a Pride Parade and it's one of my favorite memories. I felt every possible emotion with this show, I love it.
9. The Last of Us
This is kind of a cheat, because the obsession comes from the games, but it is what it is. It's one of the few games that had a big impact on me and I closely relate it to my relationship with my dad. Can't wait to cry my heart out at season 2.
8. Good Omens
It's a given, isn't it? That stupid angel with his stupid demon and their stupid God. GRRRAAWW. A lot of thoughts and feelings came from the fandom, I have to point out. It's been very nice.
7. The Umbrella Academy
I have the first issue of the comics autographed by Gerard Way!! I mean, yes, it's because I'm a MCR fan, but it became even more precious after I got into the show. I'm rewatching right now, preparing for the last season. I'll be a mess when I say goodbye to them. Can't even really think about it too hard or I'll cry right now.
Continues under the cut
6. Our Flag Means Death
LISTEN THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING TO ME. What do you mean we can have a show THIS queer? It's all I want now. I ate it up. I smiled so much. I wanted this so badly and had no idea.
5. Interview with the Vampire
Feels like it should be top 3 honestly but I'll get there. This is also a cheat, I've been reading the Vampire Chronicles since I was like 15. Growing up with Anne Rice probably messed me up but hey at least I have great taste. And seeing them on screen? The way they made it BETTER? And Lestat?? Who has been haunting me for 15 years on and off??? And the second season and their reunion and and and?????????? I'm STILL insane about them and will be forever, I'm afraid.
4. Doctor Who
Listen. Listen. Okay. Yeah. What can I say? If you get into it, you're doomed. And I have been doomed for 10 years at least. I stopped watching for a while and got back last year, and it hit me all over again. I love this dumbass genius alien in a way that's calm, even. Just a permanent part of who I am now.
3. The Untamed
The year was 2022, it had been a while since I had a proper fixation and I didn't think it would happen with this danmei live-action, but then came Wei Wuxian. Guys, if I tell you I fell in love. Couldn't stop thinking about him. Everyday I was plagued by his smile and red ribbon and tragic backstory, yadayadayada. I really like other characters too, and their stories, but WWX did something to me that I still don't quite understand.
2. Queer as Folk (US)
This was a looong time ago and it didn't really persist over time like the others, but it was my first actual obsession. I was clinically insane over these gays. I had no one to talk to about them, so for every episode I wrote several pages of notes to comment to my (only) friend at school the next day, the poor thing. It was pretty much all I talked about because I spent EVERY MINUTE we had to talk going over the notes and explaining the episode. Like, between classes, during breaks, everything. Months of that. She held on firmly because she was a good friend, but I'm aware it must've been terrible. Like I said, insane.
1. Dead Boy Detectives
Maybe I'm putting this up here because it's my current hyperfixation? Maybe. But I don't think I have felt something hit as strongly as this since QaF over there. This time I can participate in fandom so I don't need to write every thought I have because it's all a big talk anyway, but I'm still pretty much having those thoughts all the time for *checks notes* nearly three months. I'm writing more than I have in years. I'm back at Tumblr after I don't know how long. I'm staring at GIFs over and over like I have the fucking time for that. I'm distracted at work daily. I talk about it in therapy. I have the main cast's notifications on. I'm getting involved in fandom discourse sometimes even knowing I shouldn't. It's a nightmare. I love it. I love them.
If you read all of this, congrats! Now you know how my mind works, kinda!! I'm open to talk about any and all of these shows. It's amazing how they mess us up. It's also scary, but anyway.

Ive been avoiding sense8 spoilers for years but lately I've been curious and from the little I have allowed myself to see I think Kala ends up with both Wolfgang and Rajan
AND GOD PLEASE LET IT BE REAL
I love Rajan so much(his phrase "Parents do their best for their kids and it's our duty to forgive them for that" has haunt me and my therapist sessions since the first time I heard it) and you have no idea how much I would love him to be in the know about all the whole sensate thing. HE WOULD GO NUTS. HE WOULD BE OVERJOYED.
This man loves Kala so much there's no way he can't love (either romantically or platonically) her soulmates too. Not only they are part of her but they also care for her and watch over her and Rajan would love that. Would love to know there's more people in the world who can see how awesome Kala is. Who share his love for her
AND HE WOULD BE SO JEALOUS
Because he would love to be in the cluster, he would love to have that connection and know what Kala feels and share his own feelings with her.
AND THIS IS SPECIALLY TRUE IF YOU ADD WOLFGANG INTO THE MIX.
Because at least Kala can express herself and has the emotional intelligence to talk about her feelings but Wolfgang is a godammn block of stone AND RAJAN WANTS TO KNOW HOW HE FEELS.
Because he is now dating this strong as fuck German and yes it was sudden but he loves him. He loves him, he loves his the same way he loves Kala, and he knows Wolfgang went through some shit so he wants to be there for him. BUT ITS HARD AS FUCK WHEN SAID MAN RARELY OPENS UP AND TALKS
And it's so unfair Kala has this advantage (and Kala will laugh at how much Rajan whines about it while secretly sharing it Wolfgang).
He wishes he could know what's he's feeling
He and detective Mun befriend because of this. They form the "We are dating a hard to read sensate and we aren't even part of the cluster. (Do you understand our suffering?)" club.
Except Mun isn't suffering. He enjoys slowly learning about Sun. Slowly seeing her open to him.
Rajan does too.
Its just sometimes his impatience (and the culture differences) gets the best of him and he has crises where he feels he isn't being a good partner to Wolfgang.Completely unaware that seeing someone getting so worked up over correctly caring for him hits right into that deep tender part of Wolfgangs heart.
All his life Wolfganf grew up surrounded by people who harmed in a daily basis without a csend thought and now he gets this. Two partes who love and care deeply for him( and the cluster and Feliks of course). He's speechless and doesn't know what to do.
This only worsens Rajans crises.
Kala knows this and just enjoys watching this mess from afar. She's glad the boys of her life care so greatly for each other even if they are a dumpster on fire mess.
She eventually helps them.
Dani and Hernando, while not as in a dire situation as Rajan (Lito is an open book. It's impossible to not know what's he's feeling at all times. The boy might be an professional liar but no. He can't trick Hernando nor Dani) they still have to get used to the whole sensate thing.
They and Rajan form the club "We are in a poly relationship with a sensate/sensates (we are still unsure whether we are only dating just them or if we are actually dating the whole cluster... not that we mind ofc)" club.
It's Amanita and Nomi the ones who are laughing at all of this.
Not everybody can make such perfect and healthy relationship nor tackle the whole sensate thing as easily as them.
Sadly I don't know mucho about Capheus girlfriend but I guess she's on the some boat as detective Mun. The "Wow, this is so cool" club.

So, I saw a weird ask going around and thought - good idea, sad and pathetic execution. So, new tag game! Tell me what you're currently reading and watching as well as what's been your favorite books, films, and shows this year!
CURRENTLY WATCHING: I'm currently watching Make Some Noise, which has been fun to binge. Highly rec it if you or a kind friend has Dropout. Also watching Evil which is such a highly underrated show.
CURRENTLY READING: To be completely honest, I'm in a bit of a reading slump. I had my reading binge at the beginning of the year. Buuut I am at the very beginning of both The Legacy of Yangchen by F.C. Yee as well as Diamond Ring by KD Casey.
FAVORITE MOVIES AND SHOWS SO FAR THIS YEAR: Can't recommend Challengers enough. Truly, probably my favorite movie of the year so far? Twisters was really fun too. I know this came out last year, but I'm pretty sure I watched Bottoms this year and I can't recommend that enough either, it's so good. I think I also got around to watching Sense8 for the first time this year and wow I really missed out. That show fucking rocks. I watched House of the Dragon and while it was a slow build-up season, I'm excited to see what happens next? While the latest season of The Bear was a bit all over the place, I still loved it dearly. The latest season of The Dragon Prince was so good too. Also started watching RWBY for the first time (RIP Rooster Teeth).
FAVORITE BOOKS SO FAR THIS YEAR: Oooh I told y'all I had a reading binge at the beginning of the year. Most Ardently by Gabe Cole Novoa was great, as well as So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole, Escaping Mr. Rochester by L.L. McKinney, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: The Druid's Call by E.K. Johnston, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: The Road to Neverwinter by Jaleigh Johnson, The Bewitching Hour: A Tara Prequel by Ashley Poston, The Pomegranate Gate by Ariel Kaplan, and okay I'm cheating a bit but I read it in December last year, Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. Also reread the most of Rick Riordon's demigod universe. All the Greek, Roman, and Norse demigod series in the universe, at least. I highly recommend The Trials of Apollo series as well as The Sun and The Star which is actually written by both Mark Oshiro and Rick Riordan (like the book somehow gets away with a MONTERO reference, how can you not love that?). The Magnus Chase books, while imperfect, hold a special place in my heart too.
No Pressure Tags For: @lavenderleahy @dadbodbuck @ohithankyou @buckhastwohands @half-oz-eddie

As part of my Fannish 50 in 2025 series on DW, I have decided to start a Fanfic(s) of the Month series of posts.
I read a fair amount of fics (even if sometimes it feels like I'm reading less than I used to, I'm still averaging several fics a week), so I thought it would be a good idea to highlight the fic (or fics) that tickled my brain just right during the month.
The rules are simple:
Read fics
Bookmark those that did the trick
Post my thoughts about them on my DW (which I'll crosspost to tumblr in case you want to reblog it for future reference, but feel free to follow along on DW if you want)
That's it!
You're welcome to join me on your own blog by making a post and tagging it 'fanfic of the month' or comment with your fanfic of the month on this (and any upcoming) posts. Sometimes I read fandom blind if the premise looks interesting to me, so don't be discouraged if it's not from a fandom we share.
Without further ado, here are my January Fanfics of the Month (in no particular order).

Azaleas and Cicadas by vegarin
Sense8 | Sun/Kwon-Ho | 11k words
Summary
Sun Bak is gone. Even if her innocence could be proven, it's more than likely that he will never see her again. There's nothing tying her to Seoul now, not even revenge. She won't return. That doesn't mean the promise he made shouldn't be kept. His promise to her. Justice will prevail. It will. It has to. Detective Mun slowly recovers from the gunshot wound. Sun Bak is still out there somewhere, and he never expects to see her again. But life has other plans.
This fic is a beautiful exploration of how Sun and Mun's story could've ended. It's Mun's POV and it fills in the gaps left after S02E11's cliffhanger before the finale was released. If there had been no finale, this fic would have been enough to get the closure I needed.
I really enjoyed how quiet it seemed, how Mun's feelings grow in the background and how Sun cares for him even with the distance and all the obstacles separating them.
Additionally, it gave me the joy of seeing Joon-ki arrested. God bless.

It was Always You by FloridBloom
Arcane | Jayce/Mel/Viktor | 3.6k words
Summary
What if instead of disintegration Jayce falls into a universe where meljayvik is a possibility? He’d gone into Viktor’s mind, that cerebral interstellar place where everything was intimately connected and exactly known. And it was over. All of it was over so how could he be here? In Viktor’s bed. Naked in Viktor’s bed. Beside Viktor. Was there a universe where something like this could happen? Jayce put his head in his hands. “This is just a dream. This can only be a dream.”
From my own comment on this fic: This is it, the most perfect 'in another time, in another place' I've read with them.
I'm a sucker for Fix-It stories and this story is both a Fix-It for the ending and for the soul. It was sweet and horny and also made me feel butterflies in my stomach which earned it a spot in the list.

Triptych by Anonymous
Arcane | Jayce/Mel/Viktor | 11k words
Summary
"I think you two should talk. I think you’d actually get along,” Jayce said carefully. “Viktor and I are—” Mel started “Very similar. That’s why it’s you two. Why I couldn’t choose.” “Us two?” “Yes, who else?” Jayce said, kissing her palm. “I just wish you’d get along. So we could all be…together.” Mel arched an eyebrow. There was more to that “together” than he wanted to let on. She moved her hand to his chest. She could imagine a pale one next to it easily. Viktor was infuriating, but she knew beauty when she saw it. There was something there. She had always understood why Jayce wanted him. Jayce wants a threesome for his birthday. Mel is a little surprised to find she's happy to oblige. A story told over three parts.
From my own bookmark of this work: the story of the wonderful, very good meljayvik smut.
I can't possibly put into words how much I love this fic. I found it when only the first chapter was out and I subscribed in a second. The writing drew me in immediately and Mel's POV made it exquisite, addictive from start to finish.
Honorable mention to that melvik scene in chapter 2 that made me bark in real life and mumble "what the hell is wrong with me" afterwards. There's nothing wrong with me, the scene was too good, it was a natural reaction.

it's worth a little blood to get your arms free by wyverning
All for The Game | Kevin/Neil/Andrew | 25k words
Summary:
Kevin knows that Neil is really Nathaniel, Neil knows that Kevin is in love with Andrew, and they both know that Andrew will never be romantically available to either of them. Clearly, the only possible solution to this equation is that Neil and Kevin should start hooking up so that they can forget about who they really want to be with. After all, what's one more secret between them? Or, Neil propositions Kevin: why don't they drown their emotional sorrows about Andrew together?
Can I just start by saying: thank you, wyverning.
Usually Kandreil stories are about Andrew and Neil hooking up then Kevin joins them. Sometimes, Andrew and Kevin were hooking up when Neil joins them. Rarely, very rarely, it's Neil and Kevin who get the ball rolling and whenever that happens, we must take a minute to thank the author and their galaxy brain take.
Neil and Kevin are obsessed with each other and that's honestly all you need to know. This fic took that obsession to the next level and brought it to a satisfying conclusion. I swear to God, Andrew's reaction to Kevin and Neil was so in character I had to actively remind myself I was reading kandreil fic and not the forbidden secret extra content with the timeline of kandreil canon.
This fic is delicious start to finish and I've already reread it twice because it really did something to my brain chemistry. Highly recommended for any toxic polycule enjoyers because what they have is unhealthy and addictive and it will make your brain go fuzzy.
--
That's it for our first Fanfic of the Month post. Let me know what you think of these fics, if you'll be following along in your own blog, or what's your fanfic(s) of the month. The fanfiction community needs you! Spread the love for those fics that make you feel a little insane. See you next month :)

All the games I have on Steam that involve live-action FMV sections, ranked entirely in order of how good the acting is.
This is in ascending order, so while I might say something has a 'low' ranking, I actually mean it's near the top. Just to keep you on your toes. Also, please be aware that a low ranking on this list is not intended as comment on the gameplay itself, or meant as an insult towards the actors involved. Many of these games were recorded in front of blue-screens with minimal interaction with characters, props, or context. Anything that is intended as an insult towards the actors will be openly addressed as such.
BAD MOJO (REDUX) - 1996
Vaguely inspired by Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis, Bad Mojo sees the protagonist Roger Samms transformed into a cockroach moments before he attempts to run away to Mexico with a suitcase of stolen money. With how much he eats the scenery, he might have been better off getting transformed into a termite instead (affectionate insult). OK, they were clearly going for a surrealist vibe here so the acting choices are fitting, but I still ranked it lowest because most of the other speaking characters are insects who speak to you in rhyming couplets for some reason and that got real irritating after a while.
Roger Samms was played by Michael X. Sommers, who later went on to have a recurring role in the show Sense8 as 'Bug'.
HARVESTER - 1996
An young man named Steve wakes up to find himself in a small US town with no memory of who he is, how he got there, or who any of the people claiming to be his friends and family are. This is a really hard one to grade, because despite being an English-language game developed in the USA, the characters are dubbed over by different actors to the ones who play them physically. As far as I know it's the only game on this list that does that. Like Bad Mojo, it does help to increase the disturbing, surreal tone of the game. Unfortunately, that doesn't raise it higher on the list.
Steve Mason was voiced by Ryan Wickerham, who went on to voice act in many other video games including Turok 2, Deus Ex: Invisible War, and DC Universe Online. He was portrayed physically by Kurt Kistler, who went on to be arrested in 2010.
PHANTASMAGORIA - 1995
Remember when I said that the ranking on this list was not intended as an insult to the actors? This is why; Victoria Morsell does her best as Adrienne Delaney, a mystery writer who recently moved into a needlessly big and inevitably haunted house with her husband Don. But you can find the BTS footage of them doing the scenes, where she is acting in a set that is completely blue. You can't be expected to perform well under those conditions.
Then there's the housekeeper and her son, who are played by a comedy gnome and Lennie from Of Mice and Men, respectively. (Insult? I dunno.)
As far as I can tell, Victoria Morsell quit acting a few years after the game when she married David Hemingson, writer of 2023's festive comedy drama The Holdovers.
TOONSTRUCK - 1996
This is the part where we get into cast members that have actual IMDB credits to their name. The story of a cartoon animator who is pulled into a cartoon world to help save it from corruption, Toonstruck features Christopher Lloyd and Ben Stein, as well as some other people who don't count because they are voicing animated characters. Yeah, Lloyd and Stein (Protagonist Drew Blanc and his boss, Sam Schmaltz) are the only live-action actors in the game and Stein only appears briefly during the start and ending cutscenes. Honestly I debated even putting it on the list. I compromised by only rating it by the live-action parts; Lloyd is good throughout but Ben Stein sucks. Both as an actor and just in general.
Christopher Lloyd later went on to appear as Granddad in King of Van Nuys, the poorly conceived US remake of beloved British sitcom Only Fools and Horses. The pilot was never picked up. He also did some movies about time travel back in the 80s or something.
NOCTROPOLIS - 1994
Peter Grey, recently divorced and living in the back room of his failing bookshop, gets transported into the world of his favourite comic book superhero Darksheer and has to take the hero's place to fight five of his greatest enemies.
OK, I'm gonna be honest here, the acting in Noctropolis is also not that great. It's almost all character portrait things where the actors speak directly into the camera in response to the dialogue option chosen; there isn't much in the way of acted cutscenes I could make a proper opinion over. I would have put it before Toonstruck if not for one reason, and that is because during the ending credits they do a blooper reel from the recording sessions and the actress playing Stiletto (another superhero) has a really adorable laugh.
Peter Grey was played by Michael Berger, who was apparently in one episode of Malcolm in the Middle.
Stiletto was played by Hope Marie Carlton, who snorts when she laughs.
DOCTOR WHO - THE LONELY ASSASSINS - 2021
Yes, you read that right. This one is actually from the 2000s. Amazing. This is a tie-in game for Doctor Who and actually involves Ingrid Oliver and Finlay Robertson, who play Petronella Osgood and Larry Nightingale, respectively. The acting is fine, I guess, but the dialogue itself often comes across as very This Is Exposition-y, and that's hard to sell.
Sally Sparrow was played by Carey Mulligan, who does not appear in this game despite being the central character of Blink, which this game is a sequel to. Probably couldn't afford her these days.
PHANTASMAGORIA: A PUZZLE OF FLESH - 1996
The first Phantasmagoria was done entirely on a blue-screen set, and it shows. Phantasmagoria 2 was done almost entirely on an actual, physical set and holy shit it shows. Characters actually interact with their environment in a convincing, realistic way. Dialogue between them feels natural, like they're not simply reading their lines from a script. The game feels like you're watching a low budget, made-for-TV horror movie which, while that would be a terrible review for an actual movie, is a win for this list.
It also plays like you're watching a low budget, made-for-TV horror movie but gameplay is not a factor in this list.
Curtis Craig is played by Paul Morgan Stetler, who now has a YouTube channel where he talks about old adventure games and interviews people involved in the industry. He did a playthrough of the game there as well.

"Amazwe" by Simmy ft. Nkosazana Daughter
DV:
In our capitalist hellscape, one of the greatest and dumbest frustrations I have is my inability to pay for things I really want. Like, I cannot purchase even a bare-bones DVD copy of the Wachowskis' Sense8, part of my personal queer canon and a series that was incredibly expensive for Netflix to make, but that has never gotten a physical release (even internationally!) No matter what, I can't buy a new washer that doesn't have some sort of fancy touch-sensitive buttons that will die long before the rest of the machine. And worst of all, six years after "Sonini" Simmy can drop yet another in a long line of stunning collaborations with Sun-El Musician and there's no chance I can import even a CD-Single from South Africa, even if I was willing to pay $30 shipping, which I would. "Amazwe" is an embrace of a song, gloriously warm and tender, a comforting revelation. Sun-El Musician's production washes over you; Simmy is soft and precise as ever, her voice swirling and swooping. "I’ve been around the world, but none compares to you," the chorus says. The sentiment is simple and direct, sweet without being saccharine. I want to be able to play it on a turntable and drop the needle back at the beginning every time it ends, but I'd settle for a cheap cassette if that was an option too. Spotify won't last forever and who knows how long Soundcloud has left. Where will some of this era's greatest love songs live once those places are gone?
MG:
You most certainly can purchase a washing machine with zero digital features! it's a Speed Queen, I bought one last year. It's probably the best purchase I've ever made. Whenever I scroll past the end of my Instagram timeline I get posts of people cleaning things, especially front load washing machines. My Speed Queen replaced a front load washer -- those things are nasty. By design they manufacture and breed mold and that mold will spread all over. In a dark, unventilated space like a basement? Fucking horror! Anyway, I got a solution for your Simmy problem, too. You gotta Lomax it, DV! Spend that $30 to ship yourself to South Africa instead. Track down Simmy and Sun-El Musician and get them to sign off on a pressing of "Amazwe." Film the whole trip and post it to YouTube -- the curse will be passed on to whomever is unlucky enough to watch your video.

Fandom people you want to get to know better
Tagged by @harriet-bailes
3 Ships you like: Marith, Raeda, Catbirds (Laura/Shelley). (Bonus mention of Crowley/Aziraphale because I can't not mention them, but I think literally everyone already knew.)
First ship ever: believe it or not, but my having-identified-as-aroace-for-a-long-time-and-only-recently-realised-sapphic ass feels like they don't ship very much, I tend to just follow what I'm presented with and either like or dislike that, but I generally don't necessarily Will It one way or another. So going with the kind of definition of shipping where I myself wanted things in canon to go a certain way? Huntara/Perfuma. (I also love where canon ended up though!) The only other time I actively shipped was Laura/Shelley. (However if the definition of ship here is the first pairing I actively liked, the answer here would have been Neo/Trinity.)
Last song you heard: Benjamin Clementine - Ode From Joyce
Favourite childhood book: Tim de Merel. (The title means Tim the blackbird.) I've never been much of a reader and I don't think I necessarily grasped the full context of the book as a child, but it's basically a blackbird who leaves his nest/garden and has adventures all over the world. (I only recently realised the book is him writing letters to his parents about his adventures, even though the cover of the book is literally made to look like a postcard I feel like I missed that fact back then (I really was quite young when I read it). But it makes sense that that's why stories in the book were segmented the way they were. It worked perfectly for my audhd brain though.) I really liked the fact that the animals in the book were not made to be too human, they very much were still fully animal. I liked animals so much better than people (I didn't like people at all truth be told), which explains why it was one of the very few books I liked. (Another book I liked was about a really small human girl who had adventures in the animal world, I didn't necessarily like her, but I really liked the animals. It had great pictures, too.)
Currently reading: as I said, I don't really read. But a very nice book that's been laying next to my bed the last 2 years is Braiding Sweetgrass, which was a gift from a good friend. I've read a little bit of it, eventually I'll read more if it. I'm sure it's really good :) (Talking fanfic, I'm reading Seasons of Lilith - the story that follows after Answers For Mary. At the moment I'm also slow with reading fanfic though.)
Currently watching: nothing really, though I generally do tend to watch a lot of things. I'm a bit in-between things with so many shows having been cancelled. I just finished a rewatch of Sense8 though. I love it and it's extremely beautiful, but it's also rather more violence filled than where my current taste is at.
Currently consuming: warmth. (It's 9:30pm and I'm cold and tired. I had enough to eat with supper, so I'm enjoying some blankets now.)
Currently craving: peace, rest. Both personally and globally. (In daytime it'll be the same answer with the addition of candy, I've really been enjoying candy recently. I think my brain has been needing extra sugar.)
NO PRESSURE TAGS: @nobodyorlando @impromptugarrote @jyou-no-sonoko19 @tokyoterri2 @hydr0phius @confessions-of-ailu (< I still owe you a reply from my main blog - I'm so sorry it's taking me so long!)
Anyone else who wants to do this one, consider yourselves tagged by me! (Apologies if I tagged you and you've already done this.)

What are your personal fanfic/story pet peeves and, conversely, what are your favorite fanfic/story aspects/tropes? Like, what makes you click off a fic or settle in?
Super fun question! Let me think. I can answer general ones, but then I also feel they get specific for each fandom I'm in. The more time you spend on fics for a certain fandom, the more you know what kinds you like and which ones you won't bother reading, especially when it's a bigger fandom. For smaller ones I'm much less picky. In general terms though, let's start negative and end positive.
Fanfic Immediate Turn Offs:
-Any villan redemption.
-Obvious typos and formatting errors (I'm sorry, I can't handle it).
-Extreme ooc.
-Rape/non con (this is fandom dependent, if it's a canon element then it's fine)
-Any crazy unhealthy relationship dynamics, like I'm not interested in a like, 50 Shades of Grey type au, or your teacher/student romance. None of that.
-I won't read certain kinks? This is again, fandom dependent, and how I feel the characters would act in their relationship, but like I'll never read any watersports, or rape kinks, and I don't vibe with blood kinks either. That's my preference, not to yuck anyone's yum. Those are my big three, though I'm sure there's more.
-If there is a ship I hate, even in the background, I can't do it.
-Basic miscommunication.
-If a character calls another character Daddy or Mommy.
-OH any of those real creepy omegaverse fics where omegas are like, purchased. They fascinate me in how awful they make me feel.
Fanfic Immediate Turn Ons (for lack of a better term):
-Unfortunately, I am into the omegaverse. It's fascinating, really fucking funny, and also I kind of just love the perfect pairing concept. Also maybe I want to be cared for, I haven't analyzed it much.
-I will also read every single: soulmate au, sentinel au, Harry Potter au, sense8 au, and celebrity au. I really enjoy those in particular and I feel like they are rare lil gems when I see them.
-Snappy, funny dialogue.
-If there's no real serious plot, and it's just characters healing and rebuilding and then living life like it's a serious of episodes of Modern Family or a monster-of-the-week type beat, I will eat that shit up. I will read thousands of pages of it.
-Conversely, I love a serious plot, like if I feel the writing and worldbuilding is novel level good.
-I really enjoy some porn with plot.
-There are certain fics for certain fandoms that I will read over and over again, no matter how many times I've read the plot before. For example, I will read every The 100 college au with linctavia. I will read every modern Reddie meet cute with no Pennywise. I'll read every Avatar fic where Spider is adopted by the Sully's. I'll read every Bridgerton fic where Anthony pursues Kate from the beginning. I'll read every single post Top Gun: Maverick fic where Ice lived and the Daggers all discover from him running into the infirmary that Ice is married to Maverick and that Rooster has known that the entire time and never said anything. There are more of these, of course, but these are just a few examples.
I'm sure there are more tropes I'm forgetting, but hopefully this answered your question sufficiently. I answered mostly for fanfic, but the more general ones apply to novels. Novels I expect more from, though.

hiiiii this is the latino ralph macchio anon again, just writing to say that thanks to you i've become obsessed with the exorcist show and it has taken over my entire brain and so i am saying thank you but also oh my god this is the second show you have successfully hyped up to make me watch you're tempting me with ted lasso now the hyperfixation is STRONG and i can't stop thinking about the spooky sad gay priest show helpppppp (/lh) (but also oh my god i have sent so many texts to my poor friends and family) (i cannot stop talking or thinking about this show)
OH FUCK YEAH EXCELLENT CHOICE ALL AROUND!
listen, I am firmly convinced that the exorcist tv show is the best kept secret queer horror that people didn't know about at the time (hence the cancellation)
it was marketed in the style of cool slick horror and so naturally the completely wrong audience found it and didn't like it at all, when I think if tumblr had only known....
that, and of course the guest-cast is stellar -- geena davies in season 1?? john cho in season 2??
I will say - as a horror aficionado that gets scared super easily - that it's not the scariest thing out there. this is potentially good (if horror isn't usually your bag this is relatively entry-level, although it does get in a couple of good spooks!), or bad (if you wanted it to be as scary as the original exorcist, but then, that is a high standard), but it certainly makes up for it in both character writing and themes (and having said that, it is definitely not devoid of scares!)
for anyone else wondering, it's partially a rumination on the violence perpetuated against kids and a traumatised queer man who's trying to break that cycle, alongside another man who's unfortunately got "Destiny" written all over him, and therefore demons think he's a fuckn snacc (tomas, bby, you are trapped in the narrative, but at least marcus would crawl through hell to save you)
I watched ben daniels (marcus keane) in a play the other day and my goodness is he just as electric onstage as he is on the screen. he's going to be in the next season of interview with the vampire as well, which is perfect as I am conspiracy theory convinced that the exorcist laid the groundwork for something like that to exist, while alfonso herrera (tomas ortega) is known for having been in sense8 around these here parts (my house), where he plays a beautiful bearded university lecturer in a secret relationship with a closeted gay actor. not to throw even more shows out there, but my goodness is there some wonderful storytelling in this world
wish I could chat with either of them about this show and whether they had a sense of what they wanted to happen next, but hey, at least we had it to begin with! (don't cry because it's over, etcetc)
again, if anyone is tipping over into maaaybe could watch, the individual seasons are their own stories, alongside the overarching plot, so one can watch and get two good horror stories out of it. the first one references back to the og movie, but I hadn't seen it when I watched and was still easily able to go along for the ride
Tumblr media
if memory serves, this is like... the very first time they meet
Please let me know about your thoughts, I am parched for anyone to talk about this show with!!!
*
as a last thing, can absolutely recommend the football show. I'm currently rewatching (as you may have seen) and it really is very well constructed + my not-so-secret-secret is that I really really like football. playing it, watching it, as a thematic structure -- as Dani Rojas of the show would say: FOOTBALL IS LIFE!

(the premise of sense8 is that 8 people around here the world, including kala and wolfgang, become psychically (kinda) connected, they start to feel each other's feelings, they can see, talk to and help each other despite the fact that they've never physically met each other, etc) (i just realized my explanation doesn't make much sense without this)
rajan/kala/wolfgang mean the world to me they start out as a love triangle but then in the finale rajan and wolfgang meet in person and neither are jealous at all they genuinely like each other and they bond over the fact that they love kala and then they get together as a polycule and many people thought it was too abrupt or out of nowhere but to be fair 1) the show got cut and they had to cram all they could in a 2 hour special, of course it was rushed but i'm sure there would have been more buildup if they got more seasons and 2) there were plenty of hints, people just didn't notice them?? like that scene where kala and wolfgang wake up tangled in each other and rajan comes to bring kala breakfast in bed and he doesn't know wolfgang is there obviously, he can't see him, so he leans to give kala a kiss but the scene shows us he actually kisses wolfgang good morning and afterwards wolfgang looks smitten and immediately touches his lips? it was so cute WHAT DID PEOPLE THINK THIS SCENE WAS ABOUT
anyway sorry for ranting i don't know how much sense i made but i love them so much they were the first polycule i ever saw on tv
i'm also sharing this amv because i can and because i didn't find good gifs about them
dont apologize i loved reading that they sound v cute plus the solution to most love triangles should be polyam tbh so its always nice to see it in canon

( taron egerton. cis man. he/him. ) ⸺ 🐏 greetings, bighorns ! walking around campus, sporting his shit - eating grin we’ve spotted THEODORE "THEO" COYNE, a thirty two year old who contributes to our thriving community as a GENERAL TRAINER / GUARD. according to our intel, he's been around the sanctuary for five years and what we know about him, aside from the fact that he does agree with the decision to close the gates, is that he arrived in handcuffs, becomes more of a mystery with every question answered, enjoys a whiskey sour in the evenings. doesn’t that make him fantastic ? we think it does, and that’s why we appreciate him so much, grateful for what he gives to our community.

iii.
he can't remember anything before the age of seven and it's one of the things that angers him most in the world. it was when he was seven that he lost his mother, his whole world shattering the second she left. theodore then had only his father, a man who had never once said anything kind toward his son. without a mother to protect him, his father no longer played nice. if theo even dared to glare at him, he would end up regretting it. he learned to hide the bruises by dressing differently and would shut down anyone who questioned anything. this went on for years, theo distancing himself from the reality of his pathetic situation - until one day, he saw a glimpse of hope.
though most of the world didn't have a kill count until after the outbreak, theo can't exactly say the same. he technically didn't do anything... but that's as far as anyone knew. his father had been fixated on a football game, screaming at the television with a lit cigarette in one hand and a beer in the other. by the time the game was over, his father was hammered, beer spilled everywhere, cigarette almost out. a dropped cigarette, an accident, and the man burst into flames. maybe it happened that way, maybe it didn't, but that was the official story - theo's story.
finding out he did in fact have a relative left, his father's brother, was a whirlwind. he'd never met the man before and in turn, his uncle had never known he had a nephew. though certainly rough around the edges, he wasn't cruel by any means and actually became a solid father figure. it was through him that theodore learned everything he knows : about stealing, lying, general thievery, the likes. his known skill was safecracking, something he found immense pride in. his uncle was involved in organized crime so theo dipped in toes in.
knowing the right people and keeping his head down did him a lot of favors. his ego, however, cost him a lot and would often get him in trouble. it was during a bank robbery that he'd gotten greedy and went for a hidden safe in the back office. his team had left him in the haste and without a getaway, he ended up getting caught. aged eighteen at the time, he was tried as an adult ... which landed him with a sentence of twenty years, his record not doing him any favors. he spent four long years in a prison somewhere in missouri until a very odd day came where the guards didn't show up. a lot of people thought it was a test, but they didn't have to tempt theo twice - the second they were left to themselves, theo started brainstorming.
while not quite sure how it happened, he's just sure that it did. whether someone had done it accidentally, purposefully, or potentially even hacked them, a few days later every single cell door opened. he walked out of prison like he'd been gifted a get out of jail free card. it took some time to get rid of his outfit and into what seemed like civilization. he hadn't been out in four years and what he'd come back to seemed... broken. not having left anything behind before he went in, theo moved forward and adapted.
theo bounced around from camp to camp. at first it was because someone recognized him, then because he threatened someone who joked about eating his rations. after that, it was on purpose and he stuffed his pockets full of supplies before sprinting away. the most recent one before uec involved someone who had an... "accident" and ended with theo in handcuffs. he managed to sneak away, still handcuffed, stumbling his way onto uec's doorsteps. definitely not the best first impression, but he understood their caution. hell, it was safer to be. he wasn't sure how to offer his... immoral skills, so he lied about previously being a boxer with self defense training. though he wouldn't advertise as such, he was more than willing to do the more... gruesome tasks if that's what it took to secure his spot.
charismatic when he wants to be, he's willing to do what it takes to survive. his name may or may not be his legal name and may lie more than he tells the truth, but at least he's cute ??

( character IS part of the uprising )
STATS

BACKGROUND
your parents are the infamous duo, abraxa, and cybele dawntree. your mother, cybele, a world-renowned filmmaker, and abraxas, an infamous actor turned muse. your birth is one celebrated across the capitol, the welcomed result of your beloved parents.
your childhood is spent with various nannies, though occasionally, your parents bring you on set with them and alongside them during their travels. there is little choice in your being thrust into the spotlight, but you learn to adapt at a young age. still, you’re a rather stoic and precocious child, preferring your own company over children your age.
you’re ten years old when you first take an interest in filmmaking, insisting on recording your father’s birthday party on your father’s camera. you even go out of your way to edit it afterwards, producing a shoddy, but promising piece. your parents encourage your aspirations tenfold, enrolling you in specialized film classes to shape your craft.
this, on top of innate talent, would propel you into the spotlight at a very young age. you direct your first feature film at only twenty-one years old and receive endless praise. your next movie arrives at twenty-three, and receives equal acclaim.
despite your successes, something is always missing. while your movies were good, they always seemed to be missing something. like many of the capitolites, your movies are aesthetically pleasing, but lacking in authentic emotions, something that results in your movies earning your ire. they simply weren’t you.
you’ve begun filming your next movie when the uprising first makes it across your radar. you’d heard about rebel activity on occasion, but never in full detail. something compels you to inquire further as if you’re unable to turn away from what you’re seeing. the injustices they speak of move you. you know you’re meant to lend your abilities in some way.
you abandon your movie once and for all after a heated argument on the set. the controversy surrounding your untimely resignation is across every tabloid– though you couldn’t care less. the sum of your proceeds is donated on behalf of the cause. you become the resident filmmaker of the rebellion– responsible for documenting and editing key happenings.
this is where you’d been meant to be. that much you understand.

TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME
I have been tagged by @scienceoftheidiot thank you so much! I watch a frankly unreasonable amount of shows so it was a little bit of a struggle lol. Also, we do share a show too!
- Criminald Minds. I know, I know, copaganda at its finest, but I have always been a sucker for cop shows - I can't resist a good team and a good mystery. It's also the shown I have followed for the longest time (I fell into it somewhere during season 4 and it's been with me since). I could spend an equal amount of time talking about everything wrong with this series and everything I absolutely adore about it, and even now nearly 15 years later, I still put it on in the background when I want something familiar to watch.
Tumblr media
- The Nanny. This one is from when I was a kid, and I still love it dearly. I think it still holds pretty strong today, it's fun, sweet, earnest in a way that always make me smile, and the fashion is, of course, incredible. It shaped a lot of what my sense of humour is today ngl, and coupled to the heavy nostalgia of it all (I can put any episode on and I'm back being 7, having dinner with my family in front of the TV) it stays the ultimate comfort show for me.
Tumblr media
- Doctor Who - with a soft spot for the RTD area. So I actually came to DW through Torchwood (figures), but I'm still picking the Doctor because of the whole universe. I love science fiction, generally speaking, and this one despite some rocky years is still a strong favorite (also, Nine forever).
Tumblr media
- Sense8. When I saw season 1, I was blown away. The concept, the realisation, but also... the incredible diversity and representation, I had never seen anything like this before. There is something so hopeful and uplifting in the idea of sensates, of connection across the world, of beings never being truly alone, of so much love.
Tumblr media
- Steven Universe + Steven Universe Future. I love animation, despite not watching as much of it as I could, and this is easily one of my favorite. It's beautiful, both in form and substance. I love the visuals, I love the music, I love the story it tells and the unending hope it carries.
Tumblr media
- Until we meet again. I am, at heart, a hopeless romantic, and I am so easily taken by a good soulmates story. This one gives me both the heart achingly tragic and the happy wound soothing versions rolled up in one. It also merges it into a story about family, grief, and  . It's full of love, and hope for the future. It's also carried by an extremely strong cast, and while I know not everyone agrees with me on that point, I find the slow pacing especially fitting for that specific story.
Tumblr media
- Le Visiteur du Futur. I got into webseries with my younger brother when I was in my 20s (VdF, la Flander's Company, a little later La Théorie des Balls and follow up), but of them all, I'd pick this one. It starts small and light, then builds upon itself in a way I really enjoy. This one, too, despite some cynicism and sometimes bleak approach of things, can feel really earnest. It also has Henry Castafolte, which should be enough on its own lol
Tumblr media
- To sir, with love. Okay this is the most 'recent' of the bunch and you could argue it's the fresh brain rot BUT. Truth be told, it's so many things I absolutely a d o r e in a show: it's incredibly dramatic, it's a little ridiculous (glitter fights anyone??), colorful, fun, it has completely over the top villains (Madam Chan's face at absolutely any given second is a delight), and yet it's sweet and has a wonderful romance and my ultimate weakness: awesome siblings.
Tumblr media
I'll tag @sauvechouris, @benkaaoi, @heretherebedork, @machikeita, and @fandomfairyuniverse as well as @petrichoraline if you'd like and haven't done it yet. And if you see it and want to, pleas tag me I love reading those <3

So netflix password sharing crackdown just seems like such an awful idea. I get they think they're going to get more subscribers out of this and try to make it look like they're experiencing growth, but I think they're vastly overestimating how many people will keep their accounts/make new ones instead of just cancelling or not bothering to sign up when they lose access through family/friends. Like, honestly, if my MIL didn't regularly use our netflix (and we her Prime), we probably would have cancelled a while back. A lot of the things we used to enjoy on the platform are now on other platforms, and I sincerely cannot think of the last time Netflix was my first, second, or even third choice when I turned on the tv to start watching something, outside of a few specific shows.
Now they've gone and cancelled The Umbrella Academy (then cut its final season tragically short), which is just following the trend of shows that I've loved and have been critically acclaimed, and netflix just tossed aside like trash while keeping actual trash going. It's fucking criminal that The Get Down and Sense8 were cancelled. I'm also super disappointed about Altered Carbon, First Blood, Dead to Me, Midnight Club (and I guess I can't entirely blame them for Jessica Jones and Punisher given Marvel shenanigans, but I am salty about it still, and sort of blame them for Luke Cage). And while I personally didn't get to watch the shows yet, I know many people who were crushed over GLOW, Santa Clarita Diet, the OA, 1899, Inside Job, etc.
They say a reason for this push is so they have more $$ for their original content--but it's not content I want to fucking watch. Why should I pay you so you can give assholes like Dave Chapelle a continued platform to spout hate, where Big Mouth and Emily in Paris and Fuller House kept getting renewed when I've never heard a single good thing about any of them and no one seems to want anymore (even if some were popular in the beginning, now everyone's wondering why they're still being made)? Where they constantly churn out expensive and poorly received shows (both by critics and audiences) that get cancelled almost immediately instead of continuing to invest in the good content? Where they have a tendency to cancel any shows with queer and or poc leads hella fast?
They only see what shows are worth as far as revenue, and I'm not naive, I get that a company has to make money and turn a profit to keep going. But the soulless way they cancel shows that are adored by critics and audiences alike because it didn't get just the right numbers in their fucked up algorithm means they're gonna lose me as a customer as soon as I've decided they're more trouble than they're worth.
