@jegulus-microfic // may 22 // prompt: control // words: 1169
“We should eat soon. Do you have any preference?” James asks as he glances into his rearview mirror.
“No, I'm easy,” Regulus replies. He swipes at his phone again, mindlessly opening the calculator before closing it again. He's been alternating between the calculator and the weather app for the better part of an hour now, nothing else to do on his phone and a deep reluctance to have an actual conversation with James.
He looks up at James when there’s no response. It takes a second for his own words to register and with a sigh he adds, “I meant easy to please.”
Again, the double meaning snatches James’ attention. “I'm just not picky,” Regulus grounds out.
“Yeah,” James scoffs. “I can tell.”
Regulus drops his phone on his lap, turning his head to give James his full attention. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing.” But evidently it is not nothing, because James waits barely a second before continuing with, “It’s just that you barely waited for the bed to get cold.”
“Excuse me?” Incredulity bleeds into his voice.
“I heard that you went out a lot.”
“With my friends.” Late nights wallowing on the couch were only accepted for so long until they started tugging at him with impatient hands, dragging him out of the house and into this club, then that one.
They told him that the best way to get over someone was to get under someone else, but Regulus never did take anyone home. Any pair of hands that didn't belong to James made his skin crawl.
“And we all know how your friends feel about you,” James says harshly.
“Okay, seriously, what the fuck is your damage, James?” Regulus twists in his seat, staring holes into James’ side profile. His messy hair and wire-frame glasses. His cheeks are flushed with anger, but Regulus doesn’t think James has anything to be angry about.
“What's my damage?” James asks, eyes flitting over to Regulus. “What are you, twelve?”
“You know what I mean.”
“Do I?”
Regulus laughs, short and joyless, before dropping back into his seat. His eyes fall shut as he lets his head thud against the headrest. “And I remember, suddenly, why this didn’t work.”
“Yeah? Was it your incessant need to be in control?”
“No, actually. It was your complete and utter inability to listen.”
“Oh, I think I hear you loud and clear,” James scoffs, and Regulus resists the urge to just crawl out the car window. He’s slight enough, he thinks he could fit. As a matter of fact —
“Stop the car.”
“What?”
“You heard me, stop the fucking car.”
“Regulus, you're not walking all the way to Sirius' house. We still have three hours to go.”
“I don't care. Stop. The. Car.”
“What's your damage?”
“My damage is that I'm stuck in a car with you with nowhere else to go!”
It's silent for a beat. Then two.
“Well, I'm sorry you feel that way,” James says eventually, before harshly twisting the dial to turn up the volume.
They drive to the roadside restaurant in silence. Or well, as silent as can be with the music playing loud enough that Regulus can’t hear himself think. Just as well. He wasn’t thinking anything nice.
James makes the executive decision to pass by a drive-through, probably to prevent having to spend more time in each other’s company than strictly necessary. Regulus can’t say that he minds.
No words are exchanged as they eat, but when Regulus reaches for his drink in the cupholder, James speaks again.
“Do you still like vanilla milkshakes?” He inclines his head toward the cup in Regulus’ hand. James always teased him about choosing the most boring flavor, but vanilla is a classic and Regulus stands by it.
Regulus has the urge to make a snide comment, but he swallows it down. Glances over at James, tense in his seat, both hands on the steering wheel. It unnerves Regulus a little, seeing James like this. He is supposed to be loose limbs and easy smiles. Not… this.
“Yeah, do— do you still like those cherries?” Regulus asks, holding out his cup for James in case he wants the maraschino cherry that sits on top of the whipped cream. James plucks it out of the swirl with ease, like they never stopped doing this.
“Do you still go to the diner down the street?”
They used to go often. The 24/7 diner, red and white tiles on the walls, cracked leather in the booths. They spent late nights there, when studying took priority over cooking and everything else was closed. Appearing again on a Saturday morning, soaking up the alcohol that still lingered in their systems. Salty and sweet kisses shared next to the jukebox.
“No, it—” Regulus catches himself before he says something embarrassing like it hasn’t been the same without you. “It’s been a while,” he says instead.
“I see.”
Regulus squeezes his eyes shut, black spots swimming in his vision. Then, before he can chicken out, he asks the first thing that comes to mind.
“Does your mom still collect those novelty plates?”
James laughs at that, the sound of it comforting and familiar, and he seems to relax in his seat. Even if just a little.
“She’s actually moved on to novelty shot glasses. My dad had to get rid of five plates he’d bought in advance. I still have them, though. I just know she’ll return to the plate thing soon enough.”
They pass the time like that, dragging up memories and habits, questions flowing between them. Regulus finds that he likes it. He’d missed James’ easy nature, his way of telling stories. He also finds that he is secretly relieved that James hasn’t changed a lot in the time they spent away from each other.
Do you still? Say yes, say yes.
Do you still forget to clean your glasses? Do you still keep a picture of you dad in your wallet? Do you still like your coffee the same way? Do you still—
Say yes, say yes.
“I got the internship, by the way,” Regulus says at some point. He’s not sure how much time has passed, but stretching fields of green are slowly giving way to houses again. “The—”
“—one at the publishing house?” James cuts in excitedly. His head whips to the side to look at Regulus, joy evident in the little crinkles around his eyes. “No way!”
Regulus’ heart stalls and stutters. A heavy beat in his chest. Say yes, say yes.
“I can’t believe you remember that,” he breathes.
Silence stretches between them and for a moment, Regulus thinks the conversation has died down again. It was nice while it lasted.
But then, so soft like he hoped Regulus might not hear, “I remember everything about you.”
Do you still? Say yes, say yes.
“James. Stop the car.”
“What?”
“Stop the car.”
Say yes, say yes.
Thankfully, James doesn’t need to be told a third time.

Started watching The Fairly Oddparents: New Wish and I gotta say I am so impressed by how good it is for a sequel of such beloved childhood cartoon series! Besides the animation and the humour and watching again Cosmo and Wanda, I must say that Hazel is the best choice for a new protagonist as she has no similarities with Timmy and that's what makes for a new, refreshing continuation of the same cartoon!
I saw arguments that Hazel doesn't actually need fairly godparents because she has good parents and I can't emphasize enough how wrong that is and how much she actually does! Yes, her parents care for her and notice her and dote on her and they have a pretty good relationship with their kids but we see since the first episode how Hazel is considered the mature kid from her parents and she takes pride on that. So much to the point of bottling up her emotions and trying to solve things by her own! Even in a later episode she considers herself too mature for her classmates and thinks it's better for her to hang out with her teachers (great episode btw)! I know many kids are like that (heck! I was one like that!) and let me tell you they need the same care and attention as the "immature" kids, the loud ones, the ones with obvious problems, the neglected ones etc. Hazel needs Cosmo and Wanda to learn to rely on others and state clearly her wishes and her emotions! She needs to learn to be a "bother" and "immature" so she can become a better person and with healthier connections to her family and friends! Cosmo and Wanda saw this little girl trying to run away and fix her problem by herself and they were immediately like "Oh, no sweetie, we are here to help you, you're not alone!" and I think this is so imprortant and meaningful for many kids that they will watch it!
I haven't still watched the episodes with Peri and Dev but god I am excited and from the few clips I have watched I can tell their dynamic would be so fun and interesting to watch and for sure I am excited for the humanization of the "spoiled, rich, rude kid" stereotype! Probably I'll add my thoughts on them once I watch the episodes!

"Amy's just an obsessive fangirl," then explain her reaction to Sonic in Unleashed? Most fans and paparazzi and whatnot ditch their favorite for a new favorite the second their favorite turns weird or ugly. But Amy still loves werehog Sonic as much as daytime Sonic. Once she understands, she's like, "Oh, this is who you are now. Cool. I hope you're all right. Now when can we have a date?"
Granted, she doesn't necessarily have her priorities in order there, but she still cares about him. She just got confused when she first saw him. I saw a translation of her Japanese dialogue one time, and she said something like, "But I know I felt Sonic's presence." As soon as Amy finds out it really is Sonic, she's by his side again. As far as any of them knows, Sonic could be like this the rest of his life, and she doesn't care, as long as she can be with him.

Okay so I recently, finally, watched Wish and I have some thoughts. Overall, not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, but still has a lot of fundamental story problems and I've got to get them off of my chest. I'll mostly be focused on Magnifico because I think his motivations and arc largely represent the problem with the overall theme.
Okay so my biggest problem with Magnifico is his motivation. His tragic backstory. How on earth does he go from losing his whole family to thinking, the only way he can prevent that from happening again is to grant wishes? The logic doesn't track. It almost makes sense in his creating a kingdom where he protects everyone and "doesn't even charge rent," but it does not make sense with his wish granting. Having a great need to be control to make sure he doesn't lose anyone ever again can be a compelling motivation for a villain, where we see lines crossed that don't justify the intent, but in the movie, he's too self-absorbed to seem to have any actual care for the people of Rosas.
I think if the motivation was changed to something like Magnifico had once been a bright-eyed, enthusiastic wish granter who blindly believed all wishes were good but learned the hard way that that wasn't true could have been a better fit for the overall goal of the movie. Imagine that he granted a wish for a wicked person who used that wish to hurt others, or if Magnifico granted a wish but that wish ended up ruining the person's life because what they wanted wasn't what they needed (i.e. Remember The Princess and the Frog? Dig a little deeper) and that person could have went after Magnifico and blamed him for their troubles (harkening back to We Don't Talk about Bruno). This would be an understandable tragic backstory for Magnifico, and better explain why he's so careful about the wishes he grants. And, perhaps the reason he keeps the wishes he doesn't want to grant is to keep the people in his kingdom docile. No one will be angry with him for not granting their wishes if he makes them forget them and lose that drive and motivation, which makes more sense than the unexplained hording them like he does in the movie? Why does he keep them in the movie other than admiring the wishes? It doesn't make sense to me.
This would give Asha more of a reason to oppose him, if it's shown how his desire to not get hurt or to inadvertently cause hurt turned into a paranoia where he drains people of wishes to fly or play music that inspires others. And, as a side note, we need to see more of how Rosas is a kingdom of people who lack drive and motivation, where only those younger than 18 have that special part of them that inspires them to chase after a dream (something that Astor Rhymemaster touched on). Because that's the point of wishes, right? That's the point of the entire Disney canon. A dream is a wish your heart makes. That star can only get you so far, it takes hard work and determination. It's wanting something better in life, it's dreaming of leaving behind all you know to chase after a tangible light. It's finding a new dream, it's finding a new wish as you grow and learn about yourself and the world.
I don't think the movie Wish understood what makes wishes so important in Disney stories. You know what wishes do? They ignite change. It's not about getting what you want, it's about finding the courage to chase after something better. Ariel wants to be where the people are, but really she wants to be somewhere where others are willing to understand her and in the end, she finds that and makes amends with her father, who finally is willing to see her for who she is. Rapunzel wants to see the lights, and that desire pushes her to leave a tower she's been trapped in her whole life, learning that the world is not as cruel and cold as her abusive mother told her. Cinderella wants to go to the ball, to dance with people who treat her as a person and not a servant of cinders and ash. That wish is granted by a fairy godmother and gives her a hope that is worth fighting for, a hope that helps her reclaim what is rightfully hers; a glass slipper that fits only her and the love that comes with it.
Wishes inspire change. The movie should have been about that. Magnifico could have been right, that some wishes inspire negative change that can drag down multiple people. The kingdom of Rosas could have been so placid because change is scary. Maybe Magnifico could have convinced people, after taking their wish, that it wasn't worth it. Maybe the wish ceremonies could have changed so it wasn't portrayed as some sort of lottery everyone looks forward to, but Magnifico would grant wishes on the spot if he decided they were good and worthwhile, and he would lock away the wishes that would cause trouble and tribulations. 18 year olds could be enthusiastic to give him their wishes, thinking they were surely good and worth granting, only to forget their wish and be told that their wish would have only brought about their unhappiness, this would have justified a more solemn tone in the kingdom, setting up a world where people are mostly downtrodden, thinking their wishes are bad and pointless and they're better off without them. Imagine Cinderella or Rapunzel being told their wishes weren't good, reinforcing all the things their abusive families tell them, taking away that hope and courage to find something better for themselves.
Here's where the true conflict could come in. Asha could be onto this from the beginning, and her opening song could have been about this concern that the people who didn't get their wishes granted aren't willing to try at all. (Because, after all, why doesn't Sabino play music at all? Having that taken from him would take so much joy and creative expression from his life!) But why does Asha know something is amiss?
Simon.
Imagine that Magnifico has a strict rule not to ever share your wish with another person because then it wouldn't come true. It makes sense with our own superstitions, and then makes it so that no one knows anyone else's wishes. Maybe your best friend changes so drastically after giving up their wish, but you believe, like everyone else, that their wish would have only caused suffering. What can you do about it? Well what if Simon told Asha about his wish? What if Asha knew his wish wasn't dangerous and couldn't imagine a way that it could go wrong? That would give her a reason to doubt Magnifico and put more emphasis on how Simon has lost his drive like all the other adults in the kingdom. And it can also emphasize in the end that sharing your wishes and dreams with others can be a powerful thing. Just the act of sharing your dreams can inspire others to go after their own, and they can give you the encouragement to chase your wish too. Wishes inspire change, love gives you the courage to make it happen.
Imagine if the star boy used to be a human, who wished to help others and lost his humanity to do it. Imagine his wish confirms Magnifico's belief, that wishes cause suffering because star boy lost his tether to earth and is separated from the people he loves. Imagine how he foils Asha who also wants to grant everyone's wishes. Imagine him ensuring she doesn't make the same mistake he did while she gives him a reason to change again, to anchor himself to humanity again because he loves her enough not to leave for forever.
Imagine the movie confirming that, yes, change is scary. Chasing your dreams won't always make things better. You might fail more than you succeed and some wishes cannot coincide with each other, leading to grief and strife. But some wishes are worth it. Sometimes, chasing after something better and failing is worth leaving a worse situation. Sometimes taking that chance is worth it, and, like in all fairy tales, if you are kind and generous and act with love, that will make all the difference in the end.
Also, I know everyone wished for a Magnifico and Amaya evil power couple, but imagine if Magnifico was truly in love with Amaya, as he is in the movie, but that love is eventually his undoing. Like Amaya leaps in front of Asha, and Magnifico stops or redirects his attack because she's the one thing he loves more than himself and that is the weakness that Asha and co can take advantage of. Imagine Amaya keeping Magnifico in the mirror and he gets to dote on her from his imprisonment for forever. I'm just saying. At least 30 sickos like me would be into that. Imagine the depth it would give to the themes of love and change and wishing and how acts of love make all the difference.
Alright, I'll get off my soap box. I just really wish Wish could have been stronger because these fairy tales Disney is famous for matter. They really do. But the movie feels too stale and shallow and too much of a cash grab that knows the outline of a disney musical, but is unable to understand the heart of why they work.

So after New Wish I started watching some random episodes of the og show, starting with the ones featuring Cosmo and Wanda’s families, which got me thinking of how those relationships could have evolved up to the new show. So here are some headcanons about it (2k words below):
The Cosmas:
For Cosmo’s relationship with his brother, I like to think they kept in touch after Schnozmo’s introduction, writing letters and seeing each other every so often, mainly at a bar or restaurant because 1. Wanda doesn’t want that man anywhere near her home (whether it’s their actual house or their godkid’s place) and 2. Schnozmo can convince his brother to pay for the two of them so might as well get a free meal out of it.
On that note, while they get along and would say they have a good relationship, Cosmo would definitely be a bit more guarded around Schnozmo, at least as in he understands why Wanda doesn’t want to be around him and he refuses to lend him any money knowing it won’t be paid back.
And outside of Cosmo, like I said Wanda doesn’t exactly like the guy. She can stand being in the same room as him and has no issues with Cosmo having a relationship with him but she doesn’t trust her BIL one bit. Schnozmo can sense her hostility and keeps his distance as a result, if he can’t get anything from her he’s not going to bother get on her good side.
As for Peri, Schnozmo strikes me as the kind of guy who doesn’t really like kids (at least he had the decency to save the baby in his episode but they don’t exactly interact outside of it) so I could see him make no effort in bonding with his nephew and tell Cosmo not to bring him along when they hang out. And once Peri’s grown, his uncle is basically a stranger so why should he care for the guy, likewise Schnozmo writes him off like he does Wanda.
With Mama Cosma things are a little bit more complicated. Ok so first off I know it’s not actually canon but rather something many people parrot but I really like the idea of Cosmo being 10 000 years old during the og show. This means that, with the knowledge he and Wanda had been married for over 9 000 years (I think the exact number is 9 895 years?), Cosmo only spend about 1/100 of his life with his mom before running off. So despite being a mama’s boy, he isn’t afraid to go no contact with her for a long period of time.
(More on the relationship between Cosmo and his mom in this post. Yeah I’m having a blast with the angst potential of Cosmo being one of the most powerful fairies out there but being considered both a danger and “waste of potential” due to being “dumber” than the average fairy)
But yeah during the events of the og show the two of them reunite and spend a lot of time together, with Mama Cosma especially coming in handy when they need someone to babysit Poof (she dealt with one overpowered baby, she can do with another one).
However, she’s basically playing doll with her grandson so by the time he turns 5-6 (if not earlier) and starts having his own opinions and as a result starts saying “no” to things, Mama Cosma does not take it well and becomes verbally abusive towards the kid. She also tells him there’s no use ratting her out to his parents in a mix of “they wouldn’t believe you” and “you don’t want to make your dad angry and sad do you?”.
Eventually Timmy hears about it and wastes no time telling Cosmo and Wanda, and Cosmo is pissed. So they go to the Cosma’s house, Cosmo tells his mom off because you know she wouldn’t listen to Wanda, some nasty things are said and Cosmo decides to cut contact with her again, this time more openly and making it clear it’s permanent and she better not try anything or she’ll regret it, especially since she knows how powerful her son is.
Also once they get back home Cosmo would profusely apologize to Wanda about never standing up for her. Because I like to think that Cosmo had always been pretty unhappy with how his mom acted towards his wife but chalked it up to Mama Cosma not having seen him in a long time and being a bit possessive as a result, hoping she would calm down with time and turning a blind eye when she didn’t. Wanda wouldn’t be too happy it took their son being hurt for Cosmo to do anything, but at least they’re finally done dealing with Mama Cosma.
So yeah after that they don’t have any contact. Maybe she’d try meeting them at some point only to be told off again (it’d be funny if she showed up like “I gave you some time to cool off son now about me getting back into your life” but she does it 20 years later because time just works differently when you’re immortal).
I could also see the possibility that, when Peri is well into his job and out of the house, Wanda would give Cosmo permission to have a relationship with Mama Cosma again if he wishes too, since I could see him miss her a bit, though I’m not sure Cosmo would take the risk. If he does, it would be with hard boundaries like Mama Cosma being forbidden from having any interaction with Wanda and Peri, never meeting at the Fairywinkle-Cosma house and if Mama Cosma makes a single comment about Wanda or Peri she’s out the door.
So yeah a complicated toxic relationship that would end with no contact but might open up at some point. Maybe. Probably not for a few millennia at least.
And if I need to say a word about Jorgen since he and Cosmo are cousins, I don’t see them discovering their ancestry as changing anything about their dynamic. Jorgen is still Cosmo’s boss and acts like it, same with Wanda. The fact those two often get in trouble for their kids’ wishes along with Cosmo being Cosmo doesn’t help in Jorgen keeping it solely professional between them.
As for Peri, while Jorgen does seem to have a bit of a soft spot for him (Peri flinching every single time Dev yells at him shows he’s a bit of a coward yet he shields his parents against Jorgen in “Lost in Fairy World” + Jorgen calling him “Peri-weri”), I could see it as having more to do with Peri being the youngest fairy rather than a family connection. Tbh in general I see Peri as being babied by most people who knew him as a kid, to his dismay (this is also my explanation as to why he changed his name, he wants people to stop immediately identify him as the last baby born).
Also I can’t speak about the Tooth Fairy because I barely remember anything about her personality in the og show and New Wish doesn’t exactly put her in the best light, so I’m going to say she’s like Jorgen on that front, not seeing the Fairywinkle-Cosma as family members and being nicer to Peri (her offering him a job) because she knew him as a baby.
The Fairywinkles:
For Blonda, I see her and Wanda as still having a tense relationship but they can handle being in the same room and do small talk. I also like to think that they’re jealous of each other, with Wanda feeling insecure when seeing her sister’s success while Blonda is envious of her twin’s simpler life (“simpler” as in “doesn’t have to deal with crazy fans and constant pressure to stay relevant”). So yeah they don’t exactly get along great but they can handle family reunions. Also if they talk things out there could be potential for a reconciliation.
As for how she feels about Wanda’s family, I could see Blonda be neutral towards Cosmo. She doesn’t mind interacting with him and might even find him funny, but she’s not too close to him either and doesn’t understand what Wanda sees in him.
In return, Cosmo’s chill with her. She doesn’t openly insult him so he takes it as her being nice and friendly with him (yeah when every single fairy you meet either mocks you or is terrified of you, the bar gets very low). That being said he’d probably feel uncomfortable whenever she insults Wanda and as a result doesn’t make any attempt to interact with her outside of family reunions. He also lets Wanda call the shots on whether or not they should interact with Blonda, understanding it’s complicated between the two and not wanting to pressure Wanda into a relationship she might not want.
For Peri, I could see Blonda babysit him a few times when he was a toddler if only because he was a celebrity back then and she could get some clout out of it. Although if you take the idea of her being envious of Wanda’s simpler life, I could also see Blonda babysit her nephew even after he stopped being popular because she enjoyed feeling like a regular fairy from time to time.
(the way I see it Poof was popular because his birth gave fairies hope that the baby ban was going to be lifted; but when it became clear the Fairy Council had no desire to change their rules, the hype died down and even turned into resentment towards the Fairywinkle-Cosma trio, one of the reasons why Cosmo and Wanda “moved out” of Fairy World once Peri was an adult)
As for how Peri feels about her, I could see him enjoy hanging out with her as a kid and especially as a teen (not sure how to explain it but Blonda strikes me as someone who could get along well with kids, like she’s the cool aunt who also spoils you rotten). But also Blonda doesn’t really have much of a filter when it comes to insulting Wanda so as he grows up and hears more and more of her comments, Peri would get defensive of his mom and spend less time with his aunt.
Tbh he likely already defended his mom as a kid but back then Blonda would just deflect in a “I’m just joking” kind of way and move on to something else, with Peri being too young to know how to properly react. But as a teen, he better understands that he can just leave the room and talk to her less.
And between him not wanting to see her much and Wanda having a bad relationship with her, the last time Blonda saw her nephew before a potential meeting during New Wish would be back when he was like 16-17 (so a good 5-6 years).
Finally for Big Daddy, we see in the og show that Wanda has a good relationship with him for the most part and often writes him letters (he even knew about Timmy). That being said she’s also intimidated by him and is afraid to stand up to him, causing her to lie about Timmy’s personality and hide her marriage.
So my idea for him is pretty similar to Cosmo and his brother. Wanda has a relationship with her father but she’s the one visiting him, mainly because he lives a dangerous life and she doesn’t want to put her family at risk. Also Big Daddy doesn’t like Cosmo so there’s no point in him visiting the guy, and since Cosmo’s terrified of his FIL he’d be more than happy to keep it that way. Maybe sometimes for a family dinner Cosmo’s invited, which is also when he’d interact with Blonda, but Big Daddy would mostly ignore him in those instances.
For Peri tho, since Big Daddy seems like a family man I could definitely see him want to have a relationship with his grandson, and after a while protesting Wanda eventually caves in (since again she struggles with saying no to him). She tries to still keep Peri away for his safety, like not having him every time she visits or keeping the visits short, but yeah Big Daddy would know his grandson and be attached to him.
Once he’s an adult Peri would definitely keep contact with his grandpa, especially since at that point he’d have the maturity to understand the risk (basically staying in contact with Big Daddy would be an informed decision and his own choice).

Girl, you are so "Turning Out Pts. i, ii & iii"-coded, fr fr...
Hadley's profile and the cherry lemon ship masterpost have been updated with new, correct timeline info. tl;dr - Still married in January 2012, but they're one year younger than previously stated and got married during Hadley's junior year instead of after she graduates. Hadley's out of school before her pregnancy... Dale's in it for the long haul.

Martyn really said "I am the drama" this session.
Making a new rule that if you want to join the Big Dogs you have to forsake your old alliances. Telling Pearl white lies about Bdubs, forcing Skizz to choose between the dogboy aesthetic and his old buddy Tango. He really found the people Most Likely To Bark and forced them to make a hard decision, then tried to kill Pearl right in front of Bdubs so that she'd have to join too-
I wonder what character analysts are gonna make of this. Martyn, after losing Mumbo and Jimmy, became possessive and demanded full loyalty... what experience does that stem from?

spinning off of "winston being fantastically (literally fantastical (literally related to fantasy)) clairvoyant (he is also figuratively clear-sighted / figuratively preternaturally perceptive just like, in the show. which is where this all comes from. plus him calling himself cassandra, always seeing the future. he really has always / continued to be thusly) and taylor literally has a broadsword" type fun and games that are very loosey goosey b/c billions aus go spinning off into their own separate dimensions super easily when billions canon is so rooted in its specific Stage Settings of modern day US law n finance battles in the office, sidewalks, and eateries:
the thought of winston & tuk and winston gets to be a fairy. jokes, please. changelings are right there with the common theory of "was this to explain disabilities & go 'something could go Wrong and the baby's not a Person and get rid of that,' unlike nowadays where people do that but go 'b/c that baby's disabled'" and also one goes Thinking Emoji about how apparently New Mothers and New Brides were susceptible along with New Borns to become swapped out with a fairy and now something's wrong with them and get rid of that. had to be about Something given that people apparently did act on changeling lore and martin luther is taking a stance like yeah another thesis, it's important to kill them And okay to kill them b/c they don't even have a soul anyways. okay thanks martin luther....meanwhile also witchcraft and getting after anybody for that too. and fairies generally as Problems, the etymology going back to [fate], the range like "ooh hehe causing funny little inconveniences just because" to more so "yeah they could cause life-threatening illness for that" and "yeah they'll just kill you"....and i think fairy/fey as respective noun/adj re: being gay is of Unknown Origin, like "gay" also is. and you never know, if being fey is like, well something's not right and it's dangerous, whether this is the inspiration....though by the time this slang starts turning up, and even in the time of prior possible origins / the roots in other usages / potential inspirations, theoretical actual fairies are surely becoming more Fanciful, this being around like, the 18th century, rather than "here's martin luther telling you to immolate! that! baby!"
but that like, you can have it all ways out here. the Always Small fairies i think being a later kind of victorian deal, rather than "fairies are shapeshifters & can become animals e.g. & May have a 'tiny little inches or millimeters high mode' but that's just a mode & the fact that generally though they just look like people, maybe with some stylistic variations and tells, means watch out" and i think wings came up ever, across yknow the various centuries and regions of folklore out here lmao and possible origins / influences yet further across time & regions & cultures, but again "always small and always winged" being a very relatively modern victorian deal. but we can draw on that to be sure when, additionally, a Potential mutual [would prefer to avoid] between fairies and humans (as opposed to "if your house or some shit is on a fairy path bestie just build them another door to walk straight through cuz they're Gonna") becomes "no, fairies mostly avoid humans more than the other way around" type of imbalance of any threat means like, well hey sure, the Real Self could then become a tiny little magical guy having fun with wing designs who is shy and elusive but maybe another fun little guy can accidentally become aware but then have a secret little hidden friendship hmm....
but then also just thinking of the version where you just look exactly like everyone else and live amongst them, changeling style. and potentially don't Know you're different, or at least not Why, b/c this is a "from birth" thing like hmmm ya don't say. and the whole thread where in some folklore fairies Aren't nonhuman, the difference is only about the separate fairy Realm you live in, which is different, with like "yeah sometimes fairies come from people who died." and alongside / overlapping with everything like "yeah you could disappear for a few days to that realm and then be like 'don't wanna / can't talk about it'" and whatever all various like "watch out for the liminal and unknowingly wandering or being taken into the fairy world and Then watch out for communing with them b/c then you could be Permanently affected, or permanently continually affected or vulnerable, or just stuck there. and we wouldn't want that" like well don't let them know your name but maybe try to find out their names b/c you can get at them in turn that way, don't get in on any food, don't get in on any parties. though variations, sometimes people getting whisked away for particular tasks that apparently Only humans can do. or forever potential for helpful / sympathetic fairy interventions in life. like fairies raising humans b/c their human parents were awful
also, that some classic Tests for "is your baby a changeling?" were very like, "well i guess if we drowned or burned that person and they just died about it....our bad," in the way that like apparently the way to go could be "put them in the fire. where they'll either burn or fly out the chimney." or "start going tf beating them with objects. so that they go away" like and they never stop beating winston with hammers out here!! or the classic "idk abandon them in the forest so fairies can take them back" like well they do also like [i prefer to pretend winston doesn't exist / forget that he does] lmao. this isn't really related. just the ol "ballpeen hammers kind of goated when it comes to putting someone in a sack and beating them to death" factor out here for your local changelings
also sure thinking of like ohh watch out for winston and his gayass Realm he exists in which is wrong and not of our own and potentially will forever change you with its gayass ways. uh oh don't get corrupted into a whole other powerful magical mode of existence if you commune with him in some deep fundamental nourishing ways. oh nooo watch ouuuut....one of the "you might be a changeling if" moments being "when they think they're alone do they act up?? dance??" like yeah i'm stimming and bursting into motion and making noises and existing wrong when i think i'm alone. Old Souls (theory as well that newborn changelings were secretly elderly fairies)....existence in the Fey Realm just making you different and out of place huh. and it would just be a guy though like either [undetectable except by already trying to kill them] and/or [actually just a human, fairies are just humans, fairies b/c they're in/from the fairy realm] but uh oh don't let him corrupt you. don't go hanging out with him and talking with him and partaking in his activities and embracing his ways. you'll be changed. you'll never fit in around here and be able to do things right ever again. we'll have to start beating you with hammers. and all for what. your weird gayass little guy and a whole possible other dimension of existence? vs all This? smh
#that fey little mf. all the same glasses hoodies cargo pants winston....#winston billions#you can't go wrong. sort of semi fantastical au. or just modern day ''fairies can even be in your hedge fund office'' magical realism#not even like there's clear Powers lol like what do fairies do? well bit fuzzy on that but one things for sure:#cause problems for US!!!! like wow the way symptoms & definitions of disabilities are approached much?#you might be a fairy if....ouch i'm dead of unclear causes in 1337. Not very 1337....#winston is truly always causing problems. also learned that ''oaf'' (another word i've recently thought like ''i would just not say that''#b/c for some reason the nyt i believe described orville wingate as [still an(?)] Oaf & i was like a) huh b) excuse me) derives from fairy#as it was a term for a changeling specifically :I which juuust so happens to lead to connotations of Stupidity(tm) & Clumsiness(tm)#hmm! you do not say it!#what could changeling winston do? up for grabs. but the point is: change(ling) your life. and other fun things :)#also i think another potential fairy ability was: seeing the future as well lol. it's all coming together#seeing winston with fun bird wings b/c you've communed with him ''too much'' already. not an angel thing. a fairy thing#(sidebar abt how some Lore was that they Are an angel thing. see: influence from whole other traditions lol)#winston Becoming a bird b/c he can do things like that b/c fairies are shapeshifters. he's a pigeon =) you have a nest for him =) cooing#another parallel like ''definitely don't fuck him or you're locked in to his gay autistic realm for sure''#just like how as a theoretically real world autistic person everyone just knows winston isn't allowed to have sex#nowadays how ridiculous to imagine going: we think someone is weird & dislike their vibes; they shouldn't exist. we should ostracize them#we would never be like; some corruption has caused your child to exist wrong. basically taking your Real child away from you#or when they do tragically exist that they should be driven away to any possible extent up to ''just kill them :( sorry for You btw''#with the Possibility fairies could give you your Real Human Child back....#autistic kid? number one recommendation totally isn't ''put them in specialized abuse school where we try to banish the autism for you''

i know puss in boots: the last wish might be the last instalment in dreamwork's shrek franchise but
✨ fairy godmother's backstory ✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
she's one of my fave villains ever and i would love to see more of her again, especially some context about her past - she was so iconic
her backstory doesn't have to be as long as a full movie but that'll be the dream, it could be a short like the puss in boots with the three diablos
it could be about how she built up her potion business
or how she had/adopted charming (cause there's a theory he could be cinderella's son because he was called "junior" and he has blond hair like there's lowkey a point there right??)
or the multiple deals she made throughout the years that had people get their "happily ever after"
full look under cut
Tumblr media
i customized her look on a game called dress up: time princes!!
