aw man im bilingual and i consider myself pretty fluent in both my languages (eng and viet), but viet im more fluent speaking than reading/writing? if i only knew english fluently (thus not being fluent in viet) i would be really disconnected because speaking viet is such a big part of who i am and my everyday life so its ahhhh... but 50 languages on a basic level...? how basic are we talking..? like conversational basic or like only knowing a few phrases? hm.

As I started my Dawson’s Creek rewatch thoughts on here and just finished my first full watch-through ever! I’m jumping back on to publish some final thoughts despite my tumblr break. This is all ramblings from like 6x18 - 6x24:

Fuck Eddie this dude thinks he’s so ~sensitive~ but he’s that misogynist who I hated in all my writing workshops in undergrad. Plus like HOW DARE HE BREAK UP PACEY AND JOEY Can we talk about Oliver from The OC being Harley’s creepy high school boyfriend who keeps hitting on Joey? Why is this actor always a fucking creep? Me, pointing at the screen in my fluffy blanket while Joey reads Eddie’s douchebag goodbye note: “no, fuck you! you suck!” (how did Joey pick this pretentious douchebag over PACEY WITTER?) Omfg take a shot every time the camera follows Joey looking at Dawson’s house meaningfully for at least 30 seconds my lord, I’m on the last four episodes now and I can tell this is not gonna be the last time. Dawson talks angstily to Joey about how he no longer feels inspired to make his movie — “the story of a golden era of friendship” and “all of us.” Me, blowing out a bong rip, “god, this is meta as fuck.” SOAP OPERA WATCHING UNEMPLOYED PACEY HAS ME CACKLING “I can’t do that, the young and the restless is on.” OH SAD SWEET BOY: “we’re all better off if I just lay here, watching my stories.” And then Joey turns the tv off and Pacey makes this adorable little cry of distress. Too real. I feel you, Pacey. I wouldn’t want to help Dawson make a self indulgent movie about your shared adolescence either.

lorenzo, however, wasn’t a first-born son which also meant he wasn’t an heir in any way shape or form and was free to do his thing you know BUT when it came time to arrange marriage for his one and only daughter, cherry, it was Expected of him to keep it in the family

which.. despite what the press says abt our #mans striker kim ( i.e. being a billionaire playboy, irresponsible, reckless, wild, etc. ) he’s smart n his main motivation for heading straight for the spotlight is bc every person who falls in love w him is part of a complex and expansive insurance policy that makes it that much harder for the mafia to make him Disappear, u know ?

this is one of the reasons why striker and dagger never Really not along, though striker’s always had this theory that dagger was built for nothing but the mafia anyway bc he’s straight up one of the meanest, cruelest, most RUTHLESS people that striker has ever met. but, like, with a name like dagger… how could you not be?

things really start getting #Complicated for striker when he’s ABOUT to graduate from college and his dad yeets this mortal coil in a Shocking Tragic Unexpected death ! it doesn’t really affect striker all that much bc striker spent a lot of his life living with his grandfather in the city but… rather when his father dies it’s dagger that ascends into the role of acting boss and BOY OH BOY that’s nothing but trouble for striker

dagger gets striker roped right back into the mafia that he worked his whole life to try n get out of.. just like that. sad.

and because striker is… como se dice…. a stubborn shithead with a penchant for the dramatics, he starts looking for a way to make his brothers life absolute hell because! yes! striker IS the person who fucks with the mafia! what a moron!

for a good few years it was just minor stuff, nothing really consequential, but that gets boring very quickly bc ... u know ... it is what it is

ANYWAY. he really finds his in to what’s going to make dagger kim’s life HELL and that is getting himself involved in a little heist group. there are only so many events that striker can show his face that end with a robbery of some sort before it starts to become suspicious, and it doesn’t take a genius to connect the kim family to the corallo family to the lucchese family. it’s just enough to keep people talking but not enough to actively incriminate himself. and as long as he’s not publicly throwing the lucchese family under the bus, he’s still, by all accounts, insured by the mafia as the son of warren kim.

anyway! enough w the backstory! here’s some fun lil personality n headcanon stuff :’)

001. BACKSTORY.

he’s one half of a pair or well, he was one half of a pair. jaesun lost his twin sister to a sudden heart attack, something that to this day still doesn’t make sense to him because she was so healthy and everything good but it only shows that death doesn’t discriminate. it wasn’t until two years after her death that his mom bought someone new into their house, an android to be exact one that looked eerily similar to his dead twin.

jaesun had always been fascinated by androids and how they worked so he was very excited to witness with his two eyes what this android could do. he wasn’t bothered by the appearance in the slightest, if anything, it somehow calmed him. because it looked almost identical to his sister jisun. her death certainly affected him a lot, because she was not only his sister but also his best friend.

at first jaesun loved to have the android around, someone who was willing to do chores around the house and who would cook but when he noticed his mother paying more and more attention to the android than him he started to despise the android.

now, he was never the favorite child that much he knew when jisun was still alive. but there was something hurtful about his mother favoring a fucking android more than her only child.

so not only he felt like he was less than the android, he and his mom started to fight more with his mom blaming his lazy ass for not doing shit in the house before and after jisun’s death and with jaesun blaming her for always comparing him to his sister and taking better care of the android more than her own son.

002. PRESENT.

WELL he moved out of the house and it was very dramatic and he got into a huge fight right, said “ i don’t ever wanna see ur face ever again ! ” but probably saw his mom a week later when he entered the apartment building......... since they uhhh all live in the same building i guess

anyway yeah the experience really gave him a bad outlook on androids, especially when he was also laid off of work soon after bc they were gonna hire androids instead bc the wages were a lot cheaper ... uhhhh okay

so now he’s just breezing through life with no real purpose and spends most of his time in rapture

I feel like I have become a markedly worse person in the past few months given how often Rachel has been mad at me for not conforming to her moral standards.

Which sounds petty, but by all accounts, they are my moral standards too? or at least I thought they were? “Don’t lean in the direction of cheating,” “don’t abandon your friends” and “don’t associate with racists” are yknow things that up until these past few months I have generally stood by?

I think, at least I hope, that all of these situations have more nuance than may seem to someone living outside of them though. The Chris one is made significantly worse by the fact that I have, in fact, leaned far more into the direction of cheating in the past specifically with him. This time though, he gave me absolutely nothing to reassure myself with and I made my boundaries clear! I was feeling kind of left on the edge with someone I am incredibly vulnerable around and enjoyed the attentions of someone else while still making it very clear that nothing could happen between us. That Rachel was mad at me for that I attributed to her history with her family which makes her extra attuned and anxious about situations involving romantic attachment.

The second one I attributed to a lack of communication. I was working everyday and had had zero time to actually make our apartment feel like a home. When she asked to hang out and I was like “gotta vaccuum a rug, sorry” that was a genuine statement, although if you were unaware that I had been only working, sleeping, and vaguely eating, that would of COURSE seem like a terrible excuse! But it’s hard to text and keep everyone updated on your life when you’re not even keeping yourself updated on what’s going on.

The last one has me most worried, mostly because I’m still living in it. I matched on tinder (accidentally, bc of not reading his bio) with a conservative and generally problematic man. On the first night we hung out I spent 45 minutes yelling at him about not using slurs, on the second time he was very openly islamophobic. But I keep seeing him because it is such a good ego boost to have spent long periods of time making a man feel bad about himself and STILL have him want to hang out! I’m either captivating or just stunningly beautiful! And so I’ve made it a personal project to try to convert this man into being less shitty just through the possibility that he might get to sleep with me if he does. I’m not taking it incredibly seriously, as I am still seeing 6 other significantly better men casually also, but it definitely is still bordering on rewarding a shitty man for his shitty behaviour. I have friends who would rip this man to shreds and I think by association are probably also condemning me, if they know about this, which they might because they are close with Rachel.

What started out as joking “don’t sleep with the conservative” has turned, according to Cassa, into genuine anger, which I think if I wasn’t living it I would also share! Which is the freakiest part of this. This knowledge hasn’t made me at ALL consider not seeing him again. Instead it has made me angry at Rachel, which is bizarre considering I’M the one who’s doing anything remotely wrong. Am I being more forgiving because he’s incredibly attractive? Absolutely.

But there’s something intrinsically enjoyable about his company. Maybe it’s the fact that I feel validated by his attention, maybe it’s the feeling that I can ‘save’ him (both from his shitty opinions and also the very obvious trauma in his past that led to them), maybe it’s somehow making me feel like I’m becoming that girl i’ve always wanted to be - the one that’s alluring and compels you for reasons you can’t explain - because I can’t see many other reasons for a man conceding to being yelled at and offering to carry furniture halfway across town for me without that.

Add on to that the feeling that my project is succeeding - he said he feels like “there’s something wrong with him” because he “can’t see the world the way I do” in regards to it being good, and that our conversations have made him reconsider his stances on certain issues. Like, there’s no clearer message of me succeeding in this (seemingly impossible) task than that. Is that an ego boost to my intellect? Probably not. I care far less about being smart than I do about being attractive, thanks internalized misogyny.

I know this is walking a line. But I think that line has not yet been crossed in a way than if I were dating him, or if I admitted to liking him. All Rachel knows about this is that I have seen him twice, yelled at him during both of those, one of which he carried furniture for me, and that I do plan to see him again specifically BECAUSE my game is working. She has no idea that I’ve gained a little sympathy for him, which is absolutely the worst part of this, and while I’m deathly afraid of what her reaction would be if she found that out I’m no less afraid of being condemned for what should be me mocking a man with whom none of us agree.

I’ve been making a lot of choices she doesn’t agree with lately, but she’s been having many reactions that I don’t agree with also. Anger at her roommates for talking about law school that they have just enrolled it. Anger at our friends who are in relationships for spending less time with us. Anger at Carolyn for being a little oblivious while drunk. Angry at Jack for maintaining relationships with a girl that he slept with. And, obviously, angry at me for all of the above.

These reactions may have been justified. From me, living outside it, they are not. I will try to be more sympathetic than she has been while also reflecting upon the admittedly weird things I’ve been doing. It’s hard to do when you only have your one human body to live in (and also sustain, loving this once again semi unemployed life? chaos), but I will try to be better.

(1/?) it’s okay if u don’t wanna answer this but i’ve been needing a bit of advice lately. so my dad cheated on my mom and left, and she got with my now stepdad about 10 years ago. i’ve never really liked him all that much and while i appreciate that he provides for my unemployed, disabled mother and i, he’s a bit of a jackass who doesn’t help her in ANY way otherwise. ever since my mom got disability checks a few months ago, he’s been an absolute ass.

(Continued) He won’t help her at all but he yells at me when i don’t (even tho i do for the most part) and then goes all “ohhh no baby let me get that for you, don’t hurt ur back even more!!1!!1” just to try and i guess make me feel bad for causing her even more trouble. ANYWAYS, my mom has been talking lately about moving bc she doesn’t know if she can handle being with someone she has to hide everything from bc he’ll yell at her if he founds out about certain things (that’s a whole other story)

And someone who constantly sits on their ass watching tv while making her do LITERALLY everything bc apparently him working is enough (even tho now she doesn’t even need his money bc she has her own disability checks). my point is, my mom wants to move and i’m not really a fan of my stepdad so why do i feel bad about us probably leaving him.

He’s his own person and he’s been single before but my heart is just so annoying sometimes and i can’t help it. do u have any advice on how to get over that guilt?? i’m sorry if this was a waste of time and u don’t have anything to say, it’s perfectly okay. okay ilysm ❤️❤️

I wanna say first that this wasn’t a waste of time, don’t feel bad! I’m here to help however I can! And I also feel you about your heart being annoying sometimes, if you feel things deeply like I do those feelings of guilt can be so strong even if you know you don’t necessarily have to be guilty about anything.

I’m not exactly sure how to get over those feelings but every time you feel like that remind yourself that he’s causing such a strain on you and your mom and though it would be like ripping off a bandaid, leaving him is absolutely for the better, for both your well being and hers.

The way he treats you both is just gross and you two deserve better and kinder. Like his refusal to help but then act like he is gonna help and everything is just such an asshole thing to do, he needs to grow up and realize he cannot do that to people.

You probably feel guilty because you’ve been living together for a long time and even tho the way he treats you guys makes me wanna throw hands at him and the fact that you’ve never really liked him, his presence is what you’re used to and potentially leaving all that behind is quite a change, there’s uncertainty in it for everyone.

It’s ok to feel that way I think, you’re only a human being, and you feel what you feel but remember that he’s not pulling his weight, he’s being an asshole and leaving might jolt him awake too, make him realize that by behaving that way he’s gonna push people away and he has. This is really his own doing and at this point your peace of mind and your right to live in a home where everyone helps out equally as best they can is far more important!

I hope that doesn’t sound too harsh but yeah, getting over those feelings may take some time and might even get stronger if you do move but you guys and him too are gonna be ok! It’s just a necessary kind of change you know, try and look at it that way, and I’m sure you and your mom will feel a lot freer and happier if you do leave.

Your big heart is a gift, though annoying at times, your ability to empathize with someone you don’t even really like and who hasn’t been treating you so nice is amazing and I want you to know that and be proud of that! ♥️ I hope this helps you in some way and hopefully that all made sense and wasn’t just a long meaningless ramble lol

I feel I need a way of transportation instead of relying on my brother and parents. Speaking of which, my brother has a car because he goes to a community college (and for that reason, he is mature?). Now the problem: my dad feels that I am too young for a car and does not feel that I am responsible and mature enough to handle one alone without supervision. My mom is willing to buy a car for me, with a reasonable price range. But my dad does not want to pay for car insurance. My parents are divorced, and I do most of the communication between them, especially when it comes down to needing money. I have brought up the aspect of working part-time. But my parents tell me that I should focus on school. My dad tells me I should focus on school instead of a car, but I need that car so I can get to where I need to be. My dad works from 9am-7pm, so I have no way of getting to 5pm practice or getting to school at 6am unless I rely on my dad. I understand how much stress my dad goes through supporting 4 children, two of which are about to go to college... It hurts when I have to ask him for money, even to pay for SATs and AP tests...
