haiii i'm always forgetting i can just come back to this blog but frank's reverb store was so funny i'm sorry like. him charging $200 for vans that look like they fought on the frontlines of the foot fungus war is insane but also kind of genius like oh okay you guys want my old clothes? sure you'll have to pay the freak tax tho
#but then there's also the musical equipment being rather well priced in comparison#i can see the worth in purchasing a used item from someone you love for what's close to the retail price for a brand new version#and if you want the $150 fart ravaged old navy pants that's on you#that said if he does sell more items i hope he sticks to his word abt some being affordable bc the cheapest item being $40 w/o shipping is 😭#frank iero

HOT GIRLS ARE CONSCIOUS.
I haven't been on Tumblr in about 3 months (life has been busy), and when I finally decided to check back in today, I kept seeing the same thing over and over again, so I am here to dispel some myths.
If you have seen any of my posts, you will know the issues I have with traditional TikTok-y trendy 'glow-up' advice, but today I realised how much of it is just a ploy to get us to spend tons of money on things we CAN live without. I think we all need to be more CONSCIOUS: conscious of what we can realistically afford and implement into our daily lives.
For example, in a typical 'glow-up' advice post, tiktok or youtube video, they recommend these super unrealistic routines that include a full skincare routine of every type of cream you could ever imagine, and an incredibly detailed list that lays out how you need to spend every 10 minutes of your day in order to achieve this perfect form.
It's all hear-say.
Don't get roped into thinking that you need those brand new clothes, or you need those skincare items to be your best self. The idea of turning your 'glow-up' into a sustainable part of your life is to do things you can manage to do over and over again. The secret to glowing up permanently is having a routine that keeps you happy and healthy. Instead of buying a full shelf of skincare all in one go, get 1 or 2 items with positive reviews to start. You don't need to throw out your whole wardrobe and sell your soul to TEMU just to look aesthetic; use what you have. Rather than making short term impulsive purchases, treat every part of your life as an investment.
Especially when it comes to clothing, being someone who has lost weight and no longer fits into all their old clothes, instead of throwing everything out and starting from scratch, I bought a little amazon sewing kit with a couple of needles and different types of thread and started cutting and sewing my way to a better wardrobe. (Even TODAY, I turned an old pair of jeans that I never wear into a cute miniskirt all from a 5 minute YouTube tutorial.) If sewing isn't your thing, you can try using some hemming tape and an iron, fabric glue, or whatever you can. Be conscious of the things you buy and how often you buy them.
I know lots of people like thrifting, and you can thrift online with apps like Vinted, which I personally use and love, if you don't have access to massive thrift stores like they do in America (I'm totally not jealous at all 🙄🙄; I live in the UK and the closest things I have near me are charity shops but there's a sort of stigma around shopping in them but honestly who cares what others think).
When you shop for clothes, look for timeless and versatile pieces you can mix and match, layer and style with lots of different things, allowing you to wear them well. Try to find good staple pieces, that will make the basis of your wardrobe. Be an outfit repeater. Do not blindly follow trends; take the time to curate and explore to find your style. Make a massive Pinterest board of everything you think looks good, and start to make a list of common items of clothing and accessories you save the most; these will be your staples. Don't feel like you have to stick strictly to one aesthetic; my wardrobe ranges from 'fairycore' maxi skirts to y2k denim skirts, but what matters is that I am mindful of whether I will use the things I want to buy.
Of course, feel free to treat yourself, you 100% deserve it, but don't get sucked into the idea that your self worth is determined but WHAT you have; instead it should be how you FEEL in what you have.
I like to see my blog as a little notebook of things I wish I could have told my younger self, and things I want to remind my future self, and I feel like it would be a disservice to not talk about the oversaturation of our feeds with infinite products, to the point where everything feels like an AD.
Moral of the story: don't just take everything you see online at face value. Don't get trapped in extensive consumerism; it's bad for your bank account, it's bad for the environment and it's bad for your mental health.
Also here's my Pinterest if you want to have a peek around <3 Pinterest

Places to Visit: Verdera: A One Horse Town.
Aerial view of downtown Verdera, Lozanía, Madrugada.
Verdera is a small one horse town located in the province of Lozanía in the rural region of Madrugada. There isn’t all that much to do up there but it was still worth getting a paycheck for the day so we went there and I am writing this article anyway. Verdera is from “verde,” meaning green. A well-suited name for a town nestled in a valley surrounded by lush green hills.
Main Attractions
Town square and Church In the middle of this tiny dot on the map of a town stands the Church of Verdera. We searched everywhere for the actual name of the Church, but even the locals simply refer to it as “la Iglesia de Verdera.” Like many small towns around the world, the town square is the main hub where many public events, live music performances, etc, take place.
La Iglesia de Verdera and town square.
Public performance schedule: Friday: Tres and Trumpet. Saturday: Mambo Night. Sunday: Church Choir.
You will often see Yarans set up pop up “garage sale” types of shops in the town square to try and sell items of very little value to tourists. But before you purchase someone’s broken kitchen appliance or a used toothbrush, why not donate a couple of pesos to these hard working men and women of Yara instead.
Don't buy someone's used toothbrush for the love of...

And if random basura is not your thing, there is also a farmer’s market nearby where you can buy fresh produce and various meats.
Farmer's market in Verdera.
Visiting the Church
You can, but remember to keep your visit brief and be respectful of parishioners. Additionally, the church is often patrolled by FND (Fuerzas Nacionales de Defensa) soldiers who may or may not approve of your presence there depending on your conduct. For more information on the FND, consult the “Things to Know Before Visiting Yara” section or ask a VisitYaraToday agent.
Inside the Iglesia de Verdera.
Where to Stay
We think this might be a bed and breakfast but you should think of Verdera as more of a day trip location.
Where to Eat
The best and probably only place to eat in Verdera is a cantina which offers your usual fast food items (pizza, hamburguesa, etc) but it also features an outdoor terrace where meats are grilled right in front of you and served with the best local cerveza.
Como dicen los estadounidenses: Awwhhh yiiehhh
Worth mentioning
There’s a Radio Verdad station in the town. You can’t really visit it but it is worth mentioning since it is the only officially recognized radio station of Yara.
Radio Libertad. I mean Radio Verdad!
The town is very rural
Cows and chickens wandering around, tractors on the main road, people slaughtering pigs, all part of everyday life in Verdera and what makes its charm.
Oh, there's the one horse.
Verderanos doing Verderano things.
Areas to Avoid
Campo de Béisbol
There is a baseball field. Do not go to the baseball field. It is.. closed for.. maintenance.
Campo de Béisbol closed for.. repairs. Indefinitely.
We hope that you enjoyed this virtual tour of Verdera and as always, for more information on activities, places, events, and all things Yara, come back and visit this page often and follow us on Tumblr!
Editor's Note:
Are we not going to talk about public executions that are regularly held in that town square? It’s no secret. They are filmed and broadcasted live on Yara’s public tv network. These events are usually announced a day or two in advance over the public service announcement system, so if you are squeamish, come back when it’s all over.

This came in the mail on my birthday!
This mysterious package arrived on my doorstep yesterday (9/18/23)…
It has imagery that resembles a game I know…but how is this here?
Cautiously opening it, I find there to be a plastic bag inside with the Sky logo on top. How curious…
There appears to be a velvet soft, black bag inside. It isn’t moving, but the color is ominous…
Before opening the bag, I am examining it. It looks to have a blue circle on the front and a small pocket on the back. The circle…is familiar somehow.
Opening the bag, so far I see nothing. Wait-there’s another pocket.
There is a piece of paper inside…it illustrates a chibi-like art of a Dark Dragon, the strongest enemy in the Sky world… The paper is saying something about the dragon’s eye being temperature-sensitive? Judging by the hand over it’s eye, that seems to trigger the change somehow. But why-
Just noticed that big, red eye…I think the dragon’s aware I’m here.
Yep! It’s a Dark Dragon alright! It’s smaller than I remember…maybe I can keep a hold on it-
It wriggled too much and I dropped it-
It’s looking around now…it hasn’t spotted me. This is my chance!
Get blinded, idiot!
Oh…looks like it’s calmed down. It seems to have liked my actions. It’s kind of cute, now I look at it more…adorable even. It can stay here I suppose.

For those wondering: This is merchandise from the free game Sky: Children of Light, which you can play on your phone, your Nintendo Switch, and your PC as far as I know. It is free, but there are in-game purchases for seasonal packs, in-game currency, and outfits. They aren’t necessary for completing the main story, though.
(I’m not sponsored, by the way. I’m just someone that plays the game.)
Here’s a link to the website if you want your own Sky merch. Unfortunately the Dark Dragon has sold out, but they restock eventually and there are other cool creatures from the game too:
Review
This is my review of the actual product.
Packaging
Box: The box is a nice size and I like how you open it. It’s like opening a treasure chest, and the box could easily be reused for storage or repackaging.
Plastic bag: The plastic is a zip-lock and is of good quality too. You can use it for storing clothes or small items or whatever (maybe not food?) since it’s re-usable. (Which is fitting for this company, since they have a strong environmental activist agenda but not in a preachy or obnoxious and finger-pointing way)
Product
Black bag: The bag the plush comes in is very soft. It’s made of velvet which gives it that soft feel. I love the blue Dark Dragon eye on the front. It’s either sewn into the fabric or a thread patch. It’s also interchangeable: As in you can flip it inside out so the red eye version is shown instead. The pockets are also big enough to fit a wallet or your phone, making it a good day pack for a trip somewhere.
Dark Dragon Plush: The plush itself is a decent size for a shelf collectible or something to cuddle or just hold. It’s also soft (but not as soft as the bag) and kind of squishy but also firm. Quite huggable. The eye is thermo-sensitive as well. So you can turn it from red to blue with heat.
Overall a really good quality item! Well worth the price of $45.00 USD.

very fucked up that build-a-bear made my gift to my mom so hard to achieve. like okay
so my mama has this lavender-scented cat plush for her anxiety. she's very emotionally attached to it, very sentimental; she's had it for less than a year, but the lavender scent apparently helps her a lot
BUT it's rapidly lost its lavender scent (again. has had it for less than a year). she's tried essential lavender oils on it, she's tried lavender drawer-scent baggies, everything, she finds fault with every method she tries
so im like "well, one of my friends got a Toothless from HTTYD Build-A-Bear and got it scented in cotton candy. it apparently has kept its really strong scent, despite having gotten it before my mom got her cat." so i wanted to get her the "Lavender Scentiment" as its called, but i knew my mama would pout about having seam-rip and sew up her cat, esp if this was a process she would have to repeat. so, instead, i got a little build-a-bear "wristie", which is a plush item your build-a-bear can hold via whats basically a rubber-band; and it'll be easier to comvince her to seam-rip and sew up for a scentiment to go into a wristie than it will be her cat
now, i dont care about surprises, so i told her all this and she is excited, because it sounds more promising than anything she's tried
we figure out which wristie she wants (weirdly: a Girl Scout's cookie wristie. it barely even looks like a cookie. but okay.) and i go to buy it for her
now. i have assumed lavender would be a scent they'd have in-store because, y'know, it's a basic, common scent. buT NOPE. SHIT IS ONLINE ONLY
which is a problem because they only allow scentiments online to be sold if you also buy a bear. and even then, it cant be any bear; they have several that are off-limits for scents/sounds. so, after seeing all the plushes i would want, as well as ones my friends would want, are ones on the "do not customize with scents/sounds" list, i go "fuck it" and have to buy the cheapest bear they got to donate to Goodwill after i get the lavender scentiment out. so a $5 scentiment is now being purchased with a $14 bear and enough shipping/taxes to make the entire thing fucking $30. on top of the $8-or-less Girl Scout cookie wristie or whatever
"but shwarmi, why don't you just look online for someone selling the lavender scentiment from build-a-bear?" bECAUSE I DID, AND I FOUND NOTHING. AND I MEAN THAT: I FOUND NOTHING. i found the usual store scentiments (cotton candy, birthday cake, bubblegum, and strawberry), i found fucking pumpkin spice as a scentiment, i found fresh cut flowers scentiment, i even found scentiments that no longer are sold like peaches and blueberry and coffee and roses and whatnot. buT NO FUCKING LAVENDER, ANYWHERE. i checked google, ebay, amazon, depop, mercari, poshmark, and all that shit but NOPE. un-fucking-available
hence, me buying a $30-something bear i plan to donate to get my mama a lavender scentiment that should have only cost me $5 if the build-a-bear website was not cruel to me. like. what the fuck
also: i did this the day after fighting with my mom. we have been fighting for two days, a different fight each day (first day: how she always prioritizes my abusive father over her children. she refused to acknowledge her inaction/decision to stay with him impacted my pysche and sense of self-worth. second day: she accepts me using they/them but is pouting over using those pronouns in front of dad bc he will, guess what, be an abusive pill about it and she doesn't want to deal with that. that one, at least, we came to an understanding about where she will just have to deal with it). never say i dont love my mama, even when she fucking SUCKS. jfc. someone rich marry me and take me away from this bullshit, i would like to be pampered and prioritized for once please and thanks
#me#shwarmi#delete later#diary dump#i like my mom when i dont live with her. which. guess i now do. fuck. [song meme voice] taKE ME AWAAAYYYY A SECRET PLAAACE

REVIEWED 1'23 #2 ~ Diablo II Resurrected (yes, not D4)
While the whole world is focused on continuing the reviews from the announcement at the very beginning to the recent release of Diablo IV, today I'm going to review the remastered (or should I say "Resurrected") version of my favorite hack and slash 3ARPG of all time - Diablo II Resurrected, which I only recently afforded.
I have been playing single player on the classic version of D2 since the mid 2000's (hence the obvious bias) and recently completed D3; whereas I haven't played D1 (because I was too young) or D4 (because I'm poor lol) and so the purpose of this review is just to compare significant elements of D2R with the classic version to determine if it was indeed worth the purchase.
Disclaimer: I am not a professional or hardcore gamer, and am in no means a totally proficient and well-versed reviewer, in terms of current media's socially acceptable norms, and so this review is more of an everyday-person's take on a beloved game.
Graphics: D2R* > D2C
*as long as you have a good gaming setup, as the high quality graphics and loading screens do lag often and prominently if you don't, and you end up having a worse experience Although there is an amazing visual experience with the high quality graphics (and larger screen to snipe monsters), there is also a charm with the classic version that I would still be happy to still play with (and feel like I'm not loosing out too much on). Not gonna lie though, the aura visuals especially on my Holy Frost Zealot and the flame visuals everywhere is fire! (pun intended)
Soundtrack: D2R ~ D2C
Loved the D2C soundtrack as it was (and maybe it's just me) but the music in D2R seemed to have more impact and better timing in making you feel in the moment at certain parts of the game
Accounts/Shared Storage: D2C >>> D2R
The biggest L with D2R for me. Although there is allegedly no limit to offline accounts (which I have not yet tested or can confirm), you only have 3 pages worth of shared stash which means that for someone like me who likes to hoard and organize a lot of uniques or set items (and some rares with good rolls), runes, charms, jewels (and jewelry with good rolls), and class-unique items, I have to create 'Keeper' accounts to store more stuff. Meanwhile with PlugY in D2C, I can have infinite shared (and labelled) storage and organizational options, no problem. I just don't see the point of limiting offline shared storage when it isn't a detriment to the experience nor affect online competitive play.
Quality of Life: D2R ~ D2C
For me there is no significant differences with D2R compared to D2C because the only notable improvement to the QOL when I was playing was the sheet comparison option of your gear but along with other improvements such as advanced stats, these are easily available in D2C with mod support. Personally, I thought the auto gold pick-up would be the most help for me as I used to pick-up all the gold I could (please don't judge me lol) and in D2R it's so laggy and you have to back track and pass by the area where the gold drops to "auto" pick-up that it seems equivalent (or even more cumbersome) than just clicking on the spot to pick it up.
Overall, I think D2R is an amazing revitalization of the game, and you can definitely experience improvements (mostly visual) but when you consider each one by one, I personally think it is barely worth the price tag if you are a casual single-player like me. So note to past self (or anyone else like me considering D2R) - buy it only if you have extra money (and not just because you can or have to).
P.S. And yes, having extra money to buy something is totally different than having money to afford it. The former means that it is coming from your excess, whereas the latter means it is part of your regular expenses. But that's a debate for another time. GLHF!

I didn't get to it last night bc I was packing two other boxes of books for a local used bookstore exchange HOWEVER I AM HOPING TO GET TO IT THIS WEEKEND. I will probably prefold some of the book shopping boxes I have as well, just to get a sense of how much I can actually ship in a given box vs reinforced envelope.
I'm also going to be destashing some more random stuff as well, probably posting to like, Facebook in groups/marketplace (especially the ADHD hobby groups lol) but I might also list some stuff here.
Like examples of other books/items:
if you like collecting old film cameras for decor or to learn to repair or want to take one in for repair, I have a handful of cameras
I have some Pathfinder 2nd edition adventure paths(!) Which I can get rid of bc I also have the PDF due to my subscription, and the core rulebook (there's a slight update that was just released I also own, but ALSO all the rules themselves are free online so either way I don't need two. Feel free to ask me more about PF2e as an amazing alternative to d&d if you like hero fantasy ttrpg. Even if you don't want the book because again everything rules is free online.)
So many Disney tsumtsums even after I gave a lot to my little buddy at synagogue who had a tsumtsums special interest.
Indie oil based perfume samples (I'l only ask for shipping for a ton of samples at random because I dont have time to check each one to determine if the oil in any samples has gone bad/smells rancid. This would truly just be a fun surprise of smells game and a chance to smell a lot of different stuff for almost nothing. many/most of them will probably still smell good, and theyre quite tiny and idk. Perfume is weirdly fun.)
also unused indie bath soap bars. Got a handful of those.
Possibly some comic arcs of various comics in single issues. Probably the full arcs if I offer.
Potentially some art supplies or storage for art supplies
Possibly also yarn!
The Jewish books are going to be a wide range of books: everything from history books, to fiction anthologies and fiction books, to vintage siddurim, to books on Jewish lifecycle/holiday/practice. I just have...soooo many and they deserve other loving homes now. I might also part with some of my haggadot and cookbooks.
I will say this: unfortunately for Jewish books, I do need to prioritize at least recouping cost to buy the shipping supplies and cost of shipping itself.
However, if you're trying to reconnect to your Judaism and don't have any books, or are a conversion student unable to afford even that and still really want some books, please please feel free to message me about it. I will try to work something out — either by waiting to ship until I can use some of my other proceeds from reselling stuff to offset the shipping cost, or maybe see if i can have some folks "sponsor" the media mail shipping cost I estimate for you by sending me a ko-fi. You can remain anonymous, I'll just use my scale to determine an estimated shipping weight for the books.
The cost should still be fairly low since I intend to ship media mail, but if even that cost would be a barrier, I would still rather give Jewish books to someone directly than resell the books to a used bookstore.
For everything else I use PayPal goods and services typically, especially since I can purchase the shipping label/cost from them directly when I do that. I'm not totally unwilling to ship to say, Canada or something but frankly I've usually found that international shipping costs are so high that it's usually not worth it. Sorry.
Hey I'm going to start listing/selling a ton of Jewish books for cheap or just the cost of shipping supplies in the US bc I'm gonna move soon. I'll probably list here first and then like on FB groups.

Another 10 Thrifting tips
I’ve written a few posts about thrifting tips and recently I’ve watched a few Youtube videos and had a few thrifting experiences that have crystalized a couple of things for me.
Hold out for the perfect piece. For the last year I’ve had a side table beside my couch that was literally just a marble cutting board glued on top of a wire plant stand. It wasn’t quite tall enough, it wasn’t quite wide enough, it had no storage. But it was good enough to serve until I found the right thing – I was holding out for the perfect side table and today I found it. Not too big, not too small, wide enough with a storage shelf underneath to hold all the bits I want to keep next to the couch but don’t want cluttering up the table top. It took me a year to find the right one and I could have bought a dozen almost-right side tables in that time but I’m so glad I held out. Use something that’s not perfect but works well enough for now, it is totally worth it to hold out for the perfect piece.
“Rent” pieces from the thrift store. Something that’s good enough for now can be purchased from a thrift store and go right on back when it’s no longer needed/wanted. Pay a small amount for filler piece to serve until you find the perfect piece. Whether that’s furniture or decor or household items. If you need something and can’t afford to shell out $$$ to buy the perfect piece now, buy a good enough piece from the thrift store and when you don’t need it, re-donate and consider the price you originally paid a rental fee. If you pay $20 for an okay chair and use it for a year until you find THE chair, then your $20 isn’t wasted.
If you have 5000 re-usable bags your local thrift store will be grateful for them.
Gallery walls are the easiest way to inject individuality into a space and the easiest way to acquire unique pieces for a gallery wall is to scour thrift stores.
ART. You can pick up real actual art at thrift stores. I’ve got some lovely paintings and ink drawings that I’ve picked up thrifting and I’ve never paid more than $30 for a piece of original art. Go on buy that weird art that speaks to you, have a home that doesn’t look like everyone else’s.
Frames. I don’t remember the last time I bought a new frame. If I want to frame something I go to the thrift store and find something that I like the frame but not what’s in it. It’s soooooo easy to re-use thrifted frames. Often I’ll buy frames when I don’t even have anything to put in them, I keep a stash of great frames that I’ll use one day.
Learn to let things go to other people. It can be really hard when you come across something that’s a really good deal! Or it’s so unique! Or it’s almost perfect! You can really like or even love something and still leave it at the thrift store if you don’t need or have a place for it or it’s not quite right. It’s okay, give yourself permission to let it go and know that someone else is gonna love it. (Of course, if you go back and it’s still there then obviously you were meant to have it)
Any vessel can be a plant pot. Either use it as a cover pot for a plastic nursery pot or invest in a drill bit made for ceramic and drill your own drainage holes. I have a lot of plants and I go around the thrift store going ‘I could put a plant in that’. Yes, I have a cactus in a chamber pot.
Learn what things are worth, this is how you spot the diamonds in the rough and how you know when something’s overpriced. Watch re-sellers on Youtube, (Laura Caldwell, The Crazy Lamp Lady, The Antique Nomad and Real Nifty Vintage are all very knowledgeable and are very generous with their knowledge) you can learn so much from someone who thrifts for a living. If you see something you like then look it up, just plug every description you can think of into Google, I find it helpful to look at the Image results and check out anything that looks like the thing I’m searching. Search things on Ebay, FB Marketplace, whatever website people use to sell their second-hand stuff in your country. Look for very detailed listings that give a lot of info about the piece. Usually if the listing has a lot of info it’s because the seller knows what they’ve got and what it’s worth so you can learn a lot even if you’re not going to buy from them.
When buying second-hand online use very general search terms. I go on FB Marketplace every few days and just search the terms ‘antique’ and ‘vintage’ to see what cool old stuff is available in my area. This is how you pick things up cheap from people who don’t know exactly what it is they’ve got. I also am obsessed with vases and once a week will go on Trademe (the New Zealand equivalent of Ebay) and look under Antiques & Collectables and just scroll through all the vases. It’s amazing how often someone’s advertising something as vintage or retro when I recognize it is way older than they think and they’re way under-pricing it - I’ve got a WW1 trench-art vase being sent to me right now that I bought for a whole 25 bucks, it’s probably worth about 150.

Summary: it’s always been a good day with Natasha, until Wanda found you
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Reader; Wanda Maximoff x Reader
Theme: Fluff, Angst
Tw: trauma, reaction to trauma, mention of death
. . .
It was one fine day, like all the others for the past year. You woke up early, sunlight warmly casting on your face as it peaked through the opening of the curtain. You can hear birds chirping in the background, making you smile
You blinked the sleep away from your eyes, raising a hand to your mouth to cover the incoming yawn. As you move, a warm arm enveloped you, and you smiled at the sight of her
This side of her only coming out when it’s just the two of you
Your beautiful redhead sleeping soundly in your arm, head tucked comfortably in your neck. An arm and a leg on top of your body, clinging to you like a baby koala
You always can't believe that the famous Natasha Romanoff, feared by friends and foes alike in the battlefield, is one hell of a clingy sleeper
You turn your head gently, glancing at the clock on your bedside table
Time to wake up. No work today but you wanted to get some groceries to fill your stocks
You tried to gently wiggle your way out of Natasha's hold, silently cheering when you got out of bed without waking her up. Natasha's soft giggle prove you otherwise, making you pout
"I'll go back to sleeping then" she huskily said before hugging your pillow and burying her face in your smell, curling herself on the bed
You watched her body relax as she falls deep in slumber once more, smiling softly at how peaceful she seemed to be
"I'm going grocery shopping, want to come?" You asked Natasha in between bites, she looked up at you from the file folder she have
She's still doing reports, doesn't mean your on mission vacation, paperwork will do themselves as well
"I'll be wherever you are, detka" she smiled, sipping on her coffee "just let me finish this one and we can go"
You nodded, collecting the plates in front of you, Natasha pursed her lips, debating on wanting to wash the dishes herself since you cooked or finishing the report fast so you can go
You smiled, kissing her cheeks before taking the dishes on the sink. You hummed softly as you finish it up, Natasha, smiling while she listens. Whenever you are around, her paperwork doesn't feel as much a burden as it usually does
Done with the dishes, you went up to your room and changed into more appropriate clothes. As you put on your shirt, Natasha entered just fast enough to see what color of bra you are wearing underneath
She grin, standing behind you as she held your waist, kissing the side of your neck softly, innocently
Yet her intentions are far from one
"Nat" you warned as she nibble on your ear, she continued, right hand going up inside your shirt, your stomach now in full view of the mirror in front of you "we have to go" you moaned as she suck on the right spot under your ear, whining that you need to leave and she's messing up your hair...
"We can go a bit later" she answered, eyes meeting yours on the mirror "we can't, we have a reservation at that restaurant you like"
She grunted in your neck "I am not liking it very much right now" she muttered and you chuckled. Stepping forward before facing her
You pressed a gentle hand on her cheek "Come on, we rarely go out"
She looked at your eyes for a bit before giving up "fine" she softly answered, taking the hand in your face with hers, just as gently
. . .
"Can you pass me one of those bell peppers" you pointed at the container with 3 pieces of what you need. You smiled when Natasha picked one with just the right mixture of red and green. Small things like this are what you love about her. She only asked once and then remember it forever
"Is there a reason why you choose a combination of both and not just the green or the red?"
You thought for a while, blinking at the question you can barely remember the answer "I've always just done it because my mom does that too but I think it's because it's the most perfect condition to either store it or use it immediately"
Her mouth made an 'o' shape, signaling her understanding of the topic
"Oh detka, strawberries" her eyes sparkled as she put at least three packs of it in your cart, you giggled "isn't that too many?"
She looked at you, disbelief in her face "Do you know how much you devour them?" She asked and you chuckled "They're like your favorite thing in the world, you even prefer them more than my lips" she pouted, your fond smile never left your lips as you pulled her in for a kiss
"Now I know you are exaggerating, there is nothing more I love than your lips" you squint "well maybe except for your eyes"
You continued pushing the cart as her cheeks gets dusted in pink, you added a few more, items from the fridge isle before going on the dry goods
You passed by a small and portable fondue fountain, you eyed it along with the chocolates on the side
"Do you want that?" She asked, looking over your shoulder
"I'm interested," you hummed, "but is it worth it?" you sighed "we won't be able to use it as much when we get back to work"
"We can bring it there then and the boys and Wanda can have their fun, Wanda likes chocolate" at the mention of your bestfriends name, your eyes lit up
Now slightly more convinced
She leaned closer, whispering things you can do with the melted chocolate on the kitchen table. Your face blushed furiously as you hit her in the arm but despite that, you took a box and a bunch of carefully picked chocolate
She chuckled, eyes hooded with the thoughts too dirty to be even thinking about in the middle of the grocery aisle
You then looked around some more. Your list has been fulfilled but you opted to roam around to get some snacks or check new things the store has. Natasha obediently followed. Checking the items too and getting some that interests her
Mostly snacks
After you are satisfied with your purchase, you go to the cashier to pay. You will opt for a self serves but they only allow 20 items below, and your cart is obviously more than 20
The cashier greeted you with a smile, you doing the same. Making small talks to try and make the day easier for the kind worker. Natasha smiled admiringly at how easy you are to have a conversation with
The cashier is all smiles even after you paid and left
"I have always admired the way you do that" she said as she help you put the bag on the trunk of your car
"Do what?" You asked, tilting your head
"Talking to people, making them feel comfortable"
You nodded, humming as you continued with your task "It wasn't always as easy, but it comes with the job"
"I refuse to believe that you weren't always rainbows and sunshine" she argued and you chuckled
"Darling, I'm an introvert, the mere mention of conversation terrifies me" she looked at you dumbfounded for a second and you did the same just with an amuse smile instead
"Guess you learn something new everyday even when you are technically, already married" she muttered, closing the trunk "what else don't I know about you?"
She opened the door for you and you got in, making sure to shake of the bottom of your shoes to remove at least a bit of dust on it, Natasha smiled at the gesture
She closed the door once you are settled and got on hers, doing the same as you did before starting the car, making sure it's heat up properly first before starting to drive
You sat in silence for a few second as you think of things she doesn't know yet "well, I used to date guys" her eyes widen, looking back at you then back on the road
"Really?" She asked "what changed?"
"Nothing" you shrug "I just didn't realize I was into girls, the norm is being straight after all, but the first kiss I had with a guy was nothing compared to my first kiss with a girl"
She hummed, "and when was your first kiss with one?"
The conversation flowed seamlessly in your head, every smile and chuckles and groans she responded you with was embed in your memory
. . .
As per your usual arrangement, you and Natasha arrived at the restaurant at different times. Wanting to keep the surprised of seeing each other dressed up beautifully, knowing full well it’s to please the person who will be sitting in front of the other
You arrived in your newly bought shiny short dress with a lot of skin showing but still very decent. You’ve done your hair perfectly that it frames your face and your make up is a bit fiercer, bolder. You wanted to surprise Natasha, show her a different side than the usual girl-next-door
Her brow lifted up, lips in a side smile of surprise. You look edgier than her tonight and it’s making her feel all kind of things in her stomach
“Of course, I can’t go losing you to competition now” you smirk jokingly
She pulled your chair for you and you sat down, she leaned down and gave you one more kiss, not being able to resist the temptation of your red and plump lips
“Competition?” she chuckled, sitting down “We are married, detka, you already trampled all over them”
“Well, you never know”
The dinner continued with all playful banters, giggles and Natasha’s flirting techniques that you admit, did something to you. Not because of the lines, but because of who and how she’s saying it
Along the lines, someone approached your table and that stopped you from talking to each other. You looked at the person and was surprised to see Wanda
“Wanda?” You called, standing up slowly as you take in her appearance
She looks tired, defeated, broken
“Y/n” she muttered, looking at you with sad eyes “Where have you been?”
“What do you mean?” You asked, lips into a gentle yet confuse smile as you held her arms “I’m on a break, but you know where we live”
“We?” She asked and you nodded “Yeah, with Natasha…are you okay?” you tilt your head to get a closer look on her face “Y/n…” she said, biting her lips “Natasha’s gone”
Your hand gripped the woman tightly as your mind reeled “Wanda…what are you saying?”
“She..” Wanda’s lower lip trembled, her eyes tight shut before she sighed, meeting you with her tired green eyes “She’s gone…she sacrificed herself for the world…don’t you remember?”
A chuckle left your lips, devoid of any humor. You stepped back, hands crossing on your chest “That’s a cruel joke, Wanda” you took a deep shaky breathe “I was just with her the whole time, she is literally right there” You pointed at Natasha who smiled at you like nothing is happening
Your brows furrowed and you were so focus on Natasha that you didn’t notice Wanda’s hand raised to your temple, eyes red and red wisp of energy flowing at the tip of your fingers
Your eyes widened in horror as the Natasha in front of you, smiling as lovely as you remember, slowly turned to ash, pieces of her flowing in the air. Your shaking hand covered your mouth to stop a scream that will never come, stuck in your chest like a painful rock that wedged itself in your lungs
Wanda moved further in your brain
You were back with Natasha in your dining room, eating breakfast and before she could kiss you, she disappeared again into ashes. The same thing happened to when you are on the grocery, before she can put the strawberries in your cart, her body flew away in the air, and the contents of the package spilling on the floor, strawberries roll on your foot as the scene changes again
This time, it’s Natasha and you sleeping on the bed, her arm and leg draped on your body. She tucked her head closer to your neck, this scene that you’ve been watching for the past year that brings you love and warmth and comfort now gives you dread
And pain
Your breathing has become shaky and erratic as you tried to forget the scenes before this one where she all but disappeared into thin air. As if noticing your discomfort, Natasha opened her eyes and called your name
“Nat” you managed to croaked despite the lump in your throat as tears well in your eyes
Instead of asking the usual ‘are you okay?’ though, she smiled sadly, her face change to that time that happened a year ago
Her hair in a braid, face white with worry and fear but she remained brave, determined “You’ll be okay” she whispered, hand caressing your face “You will be okay, my love”
And then, as if the gods have cursed you to a life of loss and pain and suffering, you again, had to watch her disappear. Ashes taken by the wind, her smile never faded, not then, not now…and the three words you never thought would be the last, echoed in your memory
You stood in front of Wanda, shoulders shaking from crying. Wanda pulled you close to her as she let you cry, whispering reassurances that she will always be by your side and yet, you can’t say the same
“Wanda, you need to move on as well” Wanda’s tears started the moment yours stopped, you pulled away from her, but keeping her at an arm’s length “You deserve to be happy”
Your face looked so peaceful despite what you just did, the scars from the battle scattered across your face and yet, to her, you were beautiful still. She pulled you closer to her, her body trembled before you and she watched, and felt, and embraced the feeling
She whispered in your ears before your body truly disappears, just like Natasha’s “I thought I’m ready to let you go” she sniffed “But I was wrong”. Red magic surrounded the whole area once again, just like from when she arrived in the house you bought for Natasha and you
"Even if you didn't choose me in this world too, I would just gladly be beside you. As long as you are here, I wouldn't care."
And once again, you open your eyes. Natasha comfortably cuddled next to you as your lips turned into a satisfied smile…
. . .
A/N: "Even if you didn't choose me (don't love me) in this world too, I would just gladly be beside you. As long as you are here, I wouldn't care." (Credit to my wonderful angsty friend @my-wandering-rabbit for crushing my heart with this wonderful line and the title of this story)

Little Fish
Here it is, this is my piece for the mcyt g/t enchange, and my person was @lorie-the-little-ghost! I’ve never written Karlnap before so I was supper excited to see this prompt and I hope you enjoy! Living with Sapnap felt just as natural as swimming, of course, there were the occasional rough parts, but the reward was worth more to Karl than any risks that came with sharing a house with a human. When Sapnap first suggested they were to get a house together, Karl all but glowed at the idea. He loved Sapnap and couldn’t wait to spend even more time together with his boyfriend, there was only a slight problem with this. The house they moved into was right on the seaside and while the view was truly gorgeous, Karl couldn’t help the way his body froze anytime Sapnap mentioned going down to the actual beach.
The idea of Sapnap seeing what Karl actually was terrified him, he truly loved Sapnap and as much as he hated keeping such a main part of him a secret from him he couldn’t help but be more scared of losing his love. So he agreed to move there and just promised himself that he would avoid all water while around Sapnap. Even if it hurt him every time he declined going down to the beach with some flimsy excuse. After all, the man was relentless with his efforts, and seeing his face fall every time was not something Karl wished for.
It was this current thought process that brought Karl back to the conversation he was having with his boyfriend, “Come on babe I promise it’ll be so much fun, I even packed us lunch!” Sapnap pleaded, staring at him with his best puppy dog eyes. Karl almost broke then and there, maybe if he went and just stuck strictly to the sand everything would be okay. But the little voice in his head couldn’t stop whispering about all the what-if scenarios. Ignoring how his heart yearned to be able to swim with Sapnap while in his true form.
He looked away from Sapnap, not wanting to see the disappointment in his eyes at his answer, “I’m sorry Sap but I’ve just got a really bad cramp right now” The excuse sounded weak even to Karl, and as soon as he mumbled out his answer he was standing from his chair and making his way down to their bedroom. He immediately flopped down onto the bed and groaned loudly into his pillow. Getting all his frustrations out he grabbed it with both hands and curled himself around it, trying to swallow down the guilt he felt at lying to Sapnap.
Meanwhile, Sapnap just stared as his boyfriend all but ran out of the room from him. Sighing he sat down the bag with their lunches in it on the counter and slumped into the seat Karl was previously sitting in. He couldn’t help but feel that Karl was hiding something from him. He seemed so excited to move in together yet there were times when it felt like Karl would just completely pull away from him. Thinking over all the odd encounters he’s had with Karl recently made him notice how these moments aligned with anytime Sapnap mentioned going to the beach.
Raking through his brain for possible solutions he tried to think of why Karl would avoid the beach like the plague. It’s not as if he avoided water either, as the man still took showers like a normal person. So if Karl wasn’t scared of water then why wouldn’t he want to swim? As if his muddled thoughts cleared suddenly, he was left with an answer that made so much sense he was shocked he hadn’t figured it out earlier.
Karl can’t swim.
It made perfect sense! He must have just been too embarrassed to say anything so instead, he just avoided his problem. Well, how could Sapnap claim himself as the best boyfriend if he continued to let Karl suffer alone in his embarrassment? Sapnap was determined to teach Karl to swim now, he smirked as he thought about his adorable boyfriend clinging to him as they waded in the ocean together. Taking their food out of the bag and putting it in the fridge Sapnap left the kitchen and made his way to their office where he began his research on how to teach someone to swim.
Deciding to stop wallowing in his own self-pity Karl peeked out of the bedroom trying to gauge where Sapnap was in the house. Karl was already hiding a big part of himself, the last thing he wanted to do was completely hide away from Sapnap. Walking through the hallway he saw the lights were on in the office, he gently knocked on the door before pushing it fully open and entering.
At the sound of Karl coming in Sapnap swiftly closed the tab he was on and spun his chair around to face Karl. They made eye contact and Karl gave a little apologetic smile at Sapnap, normally the younger would feel disheartened after his boyfriend declined his offer once again but knowing the truth now he smiled fully back at him.
When Karl walked into the office he was a little suspicious of how quickly Sapnap closed whatever screen he was on but with how big of a secret Karl was keeping from him he figured it was only fair Sapnap got to have his own. So instead of questioning the weird behavior he just moved on getting ready to apologize to Sapnap only to be surprised when Sapnap genuinely smiled at him, “I just wanted to apologize again for not being able to go to the beach with you but uh, I think I might’ve just eaten something bad.”
Standing from his chair Sapnap made his way over to Karl grabbing both his hands in his own and rubbing a circle gently on his boyfriends’ skin, “Hey, no worries baby, I understand and besides there’s always next time,” He let a smirk grow on his face and wiggled his eyebrows at Karl, delighted in the way he broke into giggles at his antics.
Karl seemed to stare longingly into Sapnaps eyes as he replied, “Yeah, next time.”
Next time seemed to come sooner than Karl was prepared for as normally Sapnap waited a couple of days to ask him the dreaded question again but it seemed his boyfriend had other plans for today.
Sapnap had left the house extra early that morning just to go shopping for the items needed for his swimming lessons with Karl. He couldn’t wait to show Karl the kickboard and fun assortment of floaties he had bought.
He was practically vibrating with excitement as he unlocked the front door shopping bags in hand. He couldn’t help but smile in glee when he saw Karl started as he burst in through the door and saw Karl startle.
Their current positions felt like Deja vu as Sapnap prepared to ask Karl the same question he asked yesterday. But this time would be different as now Sapnap knew why Karl was declining all his offers.
“Karl my love! We are going to the beach today!” Paying attention he noticed how Karl winced once he realized what was said, only reaffirming Sapnaps suspicion.
Biting his lip in contemplation he tried to find the words to say, “Sap I would love to, but, I just ate and I really shouldn’t go swimming right after eating.” Normally this would be the moment when Sapnap tried and failed to not act sad over Karl declining and then he would eventually give up asking until another today. Today however Sapnap seemed to only grin wider after hearing Karls response.
“See I knew you’d say that, every time I’ve asked you to come down to the beach with me you’ve always declined,” Karl wasn’t sure he liked the way Sapnap was walking towards him as he spoke, “I’ve been trying to figure out why you would say no.” At this point Sapnap was practically standing over Karl making the taller have to look up at him as he was sitting down, “And I finally know the truth.”
Karl felt like his heart was going to pound out of his chest with how fast it was beating. How could Sapnap know? He had been so careful not to slip up and expose himself yet somehow his boyfriend had still found out. “Go on, say it then.” He closed his eyes in preparation, not being able to look at Sapnap when he said it.
“You can’t swim!” Those three words had Karl startled out of his thoughts.
“I, uh what?”
“Yeah babe, I know you’ve been too embarrassed to say anything to me but I figured it out yesterday and I’ve decided I’m gonna teach you to swim.” Sapnap sounded so sure that Karl found it hard to even respond to him.
“That’s not- I know how to swim Sapnap” He weakly argued.
“You don’t have to lie anymore, plenty of people can’t swim Karl, you don’t have to be embarrassed around me,” and before Karl could even respond Sapnap was emptying the grocery bags to show his earlier purchases.
“Look! I even got stuff so that It would be easier for me to teach you!”
Karl could feel as his eyes start to swell with tears, he was so lucky to have such a caring boyfriend, if only he knew the truth. Standing up so he was now right next to Sapnap, staring down at him. “Sapnap, this was all very sweet of you but I can’t go to the beach with you.”
He could see confusion paint Sapnaps’ face as he spoke, “I don’t understand, why are you avoiding this?”
“I just can’t okay?” He turned to leave the room, desperate to escape this conversation but found his wrist caught in Sapnaps hand before he could.
“If you can swim then why are you avoiding me on this? Did I do something?”
“No, I just can’t talk about it,” He tried to pull his wrist free but found Sapnap still holding on.
“Why can’t you tell me?” Sapnap pleaded.
“I just cant!” Karl tried pulling his wrist out again at the same time Sapnap let go. Not expecting the sudden momentum Karl stumbled backward flailing his arms to try and catch his balance. As he did so he knocked a glass of water straight off the counter and onto himself.
It was as if time froze before multiple things happened all at once. Both men turned to a state of panic, Sapnap worried the glass hurt Karl while Karl was panicking over what he knew was about to happen. He could see Sapnaps lips moving, trying to ask if he were okay but his ears were filled with a ringing sensation. Karl could only pray that this time he got water on himself would be a fluke, maybe nothing bad would happen.
As if thinking about it made it true he immediately felt himself go from towering over Sapnap to now having to stare up at him from the floor in just a quick flash. He had never seen Sapnap from this angle and he could only imagine the short jokes Sapnap would make if he saw him now. That is if he was able to ignore the fishtail now attached to his body and only focused on his new height.
Meanwhile, Sapnap stared in disbelief as one second his boyfriend was in front of him and the next he wasn’t. Looking around the now empty room and not seeing Karl he started to panic and call out, “Karl?! Baby, where’d you go?!”
While Karl was trying to figure out a plan to get away without being seen he couldn’t help but hear how desperate Sapnap sounded. He kept glancing from his tail, up to his boyfriend, and then again. If not for the way Sapnap was still calling out in a panic he might not have worked up the courage to gain his attention. Drawing all his nerves Karl sat, petting his tail for comfort, he had to remind himself that this was Sapnap, his loving boyfriend, who would never hurt him.
“Sapnap!” Watching as the aforementioned male looked around in confusion he continued, “Look down!”
Sapnap hearing Karl’s voice looked down to see his boyfriend, not only tiny but sprouting a rainbow fishtail. Crouching down to get a closer look at him he saw that sure enough, his boyfriend was now a tiny merman,” So I take it this means you do know how to swim?” He joked.
Flustered, Karl covered his face with his hands, “That’s the first thing you’re going to say to me?!” God Karl couldn’t believe how much of a nimrod his boyfriend was.
“Just trying to lighten the mood” He chuckled. It still felt like his eyes were deceiving him and he started to reach out to Karl only to pause right before actually touching him when he saw Karl flinch away from him. “I would never hurt you, Karl,” he whispered, keeping his hand right in front of Karl.
Slowly reaching out he put his hand on Sapnaps finger marveling at the size difference, “It’s not you I’m scared of, it’s just your height”
Sapnap felt his breath hitch at the feeling of Karls little hand on him, looking closely he could even see little webbing between his fingers, “What, jealous that I’m taller?”
“Oh shut up nimrod!” Karl lightly smacked Sapnaps finger and gasped in surprise when he nudged him back in retaliation.
“So, a fish huh, don’t you like need water or something?” His eyes squinted in concern as he stared at Karl as if he was about to drop dead.
“To stay in this form I need to remain wet, otherwise I’ll transform back, my scales will probably dry out soon enough”
“Do you want to? Stay in that uh form I mean, If you want, I can run a bath for you?”
“Yeah actually, that would be really nice.”
Surprised that Karl agreed Sapnap perked up cupping his hands around Karl but not touching him just yet, “Is it okay if I carry you?”
Karl had never been held by a human before but if he was going to do this he was glad it was someone he trusted as much as Sapnap, “Yeah.”
Constantly looking at Karls’ face to see if there was any discomfort he slowly began to close his hands underneath the little fish. Until Karl was fully cupped safely in his hands, where he brought him against his chest for extra support, “I’m gonna stand now, okay?” He watched as Karl clung onto his thumb for support and nodded his head in confirmation.
With that Sapnap slowly stood up, thankful that he was still wearing shoes as he made his way around the broken glass on the floor, making a reminder to clean that up later. Careful not to jostle his little passenger he slowly made his way to the bathroom. Once inside he gently moved Karl to one hand, using his other to get the bath set up.
He absentmindedly started to stroke Karl’s tail while waiting for the bath to fill, awed by how much trust Karl put into him. Karl may not have got a choice in Sapnap finding out his secret, but Sapnap was determined to do anything to show his boyfriend that he could be trusted with this.
Eventually, the tub was filled and Sapnap gently slid Karl into the water, “Into the tub for you.” As soon as he said that he felt water hit his face and looked to see Karl giggling before swimming under the water.
Sapnap couldn’t help but watch in amazement as Karl expertly glided through the water, truly able to see for the first time just how pretty his tail was as it seemed to sparkle underwater. It also looked like Karl just enjoyed swimming and it made Sapnap ponder when the last time he got to transform was.
He waited until Karl popped his head above water to praise him, “You’re really fast underwater.” The blush that coated Karls tiny face was just an added bonus as he complimented his boyfriend.
“I’ve never really gotten to test out how fast I can go”
“Well let’s see then,” that was all the heads up Karl got before his boyfriend’s hand approached the water ready to chase him down.
Karl squealed before diving back under the water, and the chase was on. It was a little difficult for Karl to avoid capture while stuck in a smaller area but he was able to hold his own very well and the few times Sapnap almost got him he was able to slip out of his grasp and keep the chase going.
It wasn’t until Sapnap used both hands to fully cup around Karl and scoop him out of the water completely did he admit defeat,” Sapnap,” Karl whined, “that’s cheating,” he pouted.
“Maybe this will make up for it,” He brought Karl up to his face and began to pepper kisses all over his body, delighting in Karl’s laughter and little squeals. He finally backed off, leaving Karl to catch his breath in his hands, minuscule chest breathing heavily as he did.
“Fish or not, I love you, Karl,” Karl didn’t think his face could get any redder at this point and he used his hands to cover his face before gesturing for Sap to come closer.
At his request, Sapnap leaned in closer, going cross-eyed as he watched Karl press a kiss to the tip of his nose, “I love you too, Sapnap.”

Hi,can I request an azriel fic where he bumbs into someone in velaris and the bond snaps for him but he loses her in the crowd and he spends days trying to find her? And when he does he gets all shy and nervous?
This is my first ever request so beware, but I loved writing this. The ending isn’t the best, but please let me know what you think and I’d love to write for you again. Enjoy!
「Azriel x reader」
「Azriel meets his mate but loses them in the crowd」
Azriel wandered into the weapons shop, one he frequented when in need of a new dagger or other weapons. He was interested a new sheath for truth teller, a leather one to be exact.
He made his way around to the back of the store where he knew the sheaths he desired would be waiting. He browsed through the various choices on the wall and shelves, looking for anything that could catch his eye.
He had settled on 4 and he was trying to choose when a voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
“The black one on the left fits most comfortably on the upper thigh area. It’s also made of a stronger leather material than the others- it’s my personal favorite.”
He turned his head in the direction of the voice and was met with e/c eyes. He looked the person over, and as he did he felt as if his world had shifted into place, like everything in his life suddenly made sense. His mate, he realized.
He stood, eyes wide, seemingly dumbfounded for a moment, only being brought back by the feeling of a hand on his shoulder.
“Hey, you alright? I know I don’t look like someone who knows a lot about knives and daggers but I didn’t think it was that shocking.” They let out a small laugh as Azriel gathered himself and tried to come up with an excuse.
“I’m alright, just got a bit distracted.” He gave no more of an answer than that but thankfully the mystery person accepted the response.
“Azriel,” he said, “I don’t believe I’ve seen you here before.”
“I know what I want and don’t normally browse like I am today- the clerk always has my things ready for pick up. And it’s Y/n by the way.” Y/n, Azriel repeated it to himself. A fitting name.
They talked for a while about the various types of leather and sheaths they both prefer. Azriel watched as a smile showed brightly on y/n’s face as they spoke. He noticed their eyes, that piercing e/c, he could get lost in them forever. He could see a spark of something in them as they spoke. Passion- Azriel realized, passion for the weapons and daggers.
He watched as their gaze traveled to the clock on the wall. Their smile fell and they let out a sigh, turning back towards him.
“Well it looks like I gotta run- gotta meet a friend for lunch. It was great meeting you Azriel, maybe I’ll see you around sometime.” They offered him a smile as they headed for the door.
“Wai-” he couldn’t finish the sentence before they were already out the door.
He set down the items in his hands and headed out after them. He walked out and into the street, but couldn’t find them in the large crowd. He let out a long sigh as he headed back in to purchase the items from before.
Tomorrow, he thought, he’d search for them tomorrow.
- - -
Over the next few days Azriel went out to the bustling city everyday, sending out his shadows and visiting various shops in hopes of running into y/n again. All Azriel could see was their face, and that smile. That damn smile- the smile they wore while the two of them talked about various weapons they loved.
He wanted nothing more than to see them again.
Azriel was starting to give up, feeling as if he wouldn’t be able to find them again. He walked down the street and wandered into a small bakery, maybe a snack would help him to relax a little and think.
Just as Azriel went to sit at one of the tables, his ears perked up as he recognized a voice- the voice of his mate.
His head whipped around as he saw them. Talking and laughing with the shop’s owner. His world seemed as if it was in slow motion as he watched them. He got so lost in the sound of their laugh and the smile on their face he forgot he was even looking for them in the first place.
He was brought back by a wave of jealousy. That was his mate, they should be smiling and laughing with him, not some baker.
Before he realized what he was doing, he was out of his chair, feet moving on their own, headed towards his mate.
“Excuse me, I was wondering if I could borrow y/n for a moment?” The power in his voice didn’t go unnoticed as the baker quickly apologized and headed to the back.
“Well if it isn’t the shadowsinger,” they looked toward him. “Back for some more of my expert advice.”
As soon as their eyes met he froze. He hadn’t thought of what to say and this was his mate- he couldn’t mess up.
“You were right about the sheath... it is very comfortable on the thigh area” His voice was uncharacteristically quiet and he silently cursed himself for the stutter in his words.
“Well I did say I know what I’m talking about, but based on the way you stormed up here, I’d say this is about more than just a sheath.” They wore a smirk on their face that made Azriel turn away in embarrassment.
“The other day... in the shop, I felt the bond- the mate bond I mean.” Azriel tried to look up and meet their eyes, but they had that smile on their face and he felt heat rise to his cheeks.
“Oh I know, I was just wondering when you would do something about it.” The smirk grew on y/n’s face at the sight of Azriel blushing even deeper now. It seemed so unlike the scary, monstrous shadowsinger they had heard about before.
Azriel finally looked up and met their eyes, those gorgeous eyes. “I was wondering if maybe,” he took a pause trying to find his words, “you would want to go out with me? Maybe go to dinner?”
He looked up at them with hopeful eyes and y/n smiled at him. He looked so adorable- they could get used to this shy side of his.
“Well I would be honored to go on a date with you, mate.”
Azriel smiled brightly at that- his mate, his and his only.
“I’ll pick you up tonight?”
“I’ll be waiting.” He looked at them and didn't know what else to say. Curse this nervous side of his.
Y/n offered him a small smile as they gathered the baked goods they purchased earlier. Neither of them knew what to say. “Well I should get going. I’ll see you tonight Azriel.”
“Az... please... call me Az.” Their smile grew even wider.
“Goodbye Az, see you soon”
As Azriel watched them walk out of the bakery he knew his life was complete, and that this- y/n, the bond- was worth the 500 year wait.

You may have a little Lorenz Prompt as promised. As a treat. Here goes~
Lorenz taking thorough notes to surprise his s/o (is it the blog owner? the reader? some random character? It doesn't matter~!) with the most lovely, romantic date imaginable based around everything they like. He wouldn't put in this much effort to TRULY impress someone, but you're worth every step and more.
Enjoy where this takes your thoughts~!
(and pls don't eat it, Tumblr)
Y'know what, I've had a shitty day and I just finished writing some darker content- so I am going to ~indulge~. Normally I try to make my Reader character as broadly relatable as possible, but today we're going with MY preferences and interests because I WANT A NICE DATE WITH LORENZ GODDAMNIT
Lorenz (FE3H) x GN Reader - perfect date
Fluff - SFW
Today simply has to be flawless- the Gloucester heir will not accept any less. Not when it comes to you. Of course, Lorenz holds himself to high standards in all things, but the thought of providing anything less than perfection for you is one that pains him to even consider. Especially now that he'd finally gotten the courage- or, rather, found the right and proper time to ask you to spend the day with him.
You approach him at the Monastery gates not long after noon that day, and find your pace slowing as you eye him before he's noticed you. Without his usual elegant set of armor, you can appreciate the way constant marching and training has toned his slender frame- and appreciate it, you most certainly do. Though he soon turns to face you, and your eyes dart back up from a rather ignoble place to meet his instead.
"You're as radiant as ever, I see," he says with a warm smile. He offers you an arm and you take it, replying with a grin,
"You've already got me for the day, Lorenz, there's no need for flattery."
"'Flattery' implies a measure of falsehood," he says with confidence, leading you towards town, "and I could never bring myself to lie to one so lovely."
As your time together proceeds, you can't help but feel that, some way, somehow, Lorenz has some kind of psychic insight into your preferences. Everywhere you turn, whatever your heart could desire is immediately available and set before you with hardly any negotiation at play. At the first flower stall you find, Lorenz takes a moment to exchange words with the owner while you admire the sprawling array of colorful blooms; and by the time he's returned, he's holding a woven crown of delicate little white flowers. With an admiring smile, he carefully places it on your head, a hand trailing down a lock of your hair as he pulls away to observe you.
With a shy grin, you perform an exaggerated curtsy, prompting Lorenz to laugh fondly and take you by the hand. He twirls you slowly under his arm, watching you all the while, then says,
"They suit you every bit as wonderfully as I'd thought."
"They're my favorites," you reply.
"I know- erm, that is- I know of a superb bakery down the block this way," Lorenz seems a bit red in the face, but you chalk that up to nerves.
He's not wrong though- this bakery is something else. The selection and quality of ingredients is on an entirely new level compared to the Monastery's dining hall, and you find yourself overwhelmed even reading down the list of items posted to the wall. By your third pass over the full range of options, the words are starting to dance in your eyes- but a warm touch at your arm shakes your focus. Lorenz leans close to be heard over the rapidly growing crowd at the bakery's counter,
"Might I make a recommendation?" you nod, and he goes on, "I happen to have it on good authority that there's an item not included on this menu that you may like. It incorporates three different treatments of Brigid cocoa, if that is of any interest to you."
Your eyes light up and you can practically feel the rich sweetness across your tongue already.
"That sounds incredible," you reply, enraptured by the very thought. When you start to ask how he'd heard of such a thing, Lorenz has already turned to speak to the worker taking orders, and your words drown among the crowd of customers. The speed at which he acquires this mythical pastry only fills your mind with more questions. How did he manage to purchase an off-menu item so quickly? Wouldn't the cost of something requiring those many luxurious imported ingredients be astronomical?
But then, Lorenz returns to your side and guides you out of the crowded shop, and the sight of the delectable chocolatey treat in his hands dashes all other thoughts from your mind. He hands it to you wrapped in a handkerchief, and you can't help but immediately plunge in for a bite.
"Mmmm-!" you wear an expression of pure bliss as your mouth fills with sweet, savory chocolate, "Oh- Lorenz, it's so good!"
When you glance up at him, he's watching you with a strangely heavy expression. Once more, his fair complexion is painted a light red. You tilt your head curiously, and he seems to resurface from whatever thoughts had taken him for the moment.
"Here- you should try some," you break off a piece and hold it up to him.
"Are- are you certain? I had intended for you to enjoy it to your heart's content," he stammers out, evidently still a bit flushed.
"I want you to get to have some too. Please?" You hate to resort to puppy eyes with him, but it's hard to argue with the results. He leans forward and accepts the piece of pastry from your hand. You don't shy away from him in the slightest, and so a brief brush of his lower lip along the tip of your finger simply can't be avoided. Lorenz does his best to move past this without acknowledgement, and you two enjoy your treat together as you take in the bustle of the town around you.
The day continues in kind, with Lorenz apparently having painstakingly arranged every element of this date from start to finish. At a local seller of antiques and luxury goods, he secures permission to view and explore rare and dazzling paintings from around the world. Here, he's rather uncharacteristically reserved. Wandering the storage area like your own personal art museum, he watches you with evident warmth as you exclaim at the rich and varied pigments, the innovative expressions of human form, and so on.
After this, he brings you to a tavern at the far end of town, where he's reserved the second floor exclusively for you two to enjoy a quiet, intimate meal together. By this point, you've finally gotten around to considering just how much gold must have gone into this singular date.
"Lorenz," you say cautiously, "are you sure it's okay to go through all of this and spend so much just for-"
He raises a hand to cut you off, then replies,
"I assure you that it is," he takes your hand in his, holding it warmly from across your private table, "wealth has no value that we ourselves do not assign to it, and I have chosen to spend it on your pleasure. I can think of no greater use for a bit of coin."
The rest of the early evening is filled with pleasant chat and the occasional subtle sweet-talk. As you discuss everything you've seen and experienced that day, Lorenz engages you with surprisingly astute comments and observations. He's always at his best when he feels permitted to simply talk with you, as one person to another, free of the pressures and expectations of his birthright that he shoulders without a thought.
The sun is steadily lowering behind the hills and walls of the surrounding town by the time you make your way back together. As you walk hand in hand watching the Monastery gates rise ahead of you, Lorenz clears his throat abruptly and says,
"If I may steal you away for just a little while longer, there was... actually someone I thought you'd like to meet."
"Oh? What an honor," you say with a smile, "Do I get any hints?"
Lorenz gives a good-natured chuckle and says,
"Only that I think you'll get along splendidly."
And of all places throughout Garreg Mach's grounds, you begin to recognize that he is leading you towards the stables. You've met Lorenz's horse before- a lovely mare with a calm and agreeable temperment. If not her, then...
"Eloise?" Lorenz calls out in a gentle voice, "Eloise, come say hello- Ellie? Come now, don't tell me you've chosen tonight to become bashful..." at his call, a svelte black cat with delicate little white paws comes trotting out to meet you. Your heart positively aches and melts at the sight of her eagerly approaching Lorenz with clear comfort and familiarity.
"Lorenz, you... have a cat?" You say with obvious disbelief.
"She's one of the Monastery's strays, to be clear," he says, "She helps with the mice in the stables. Evidently, she had become quite fond of my preferred horse- and so eventually became fond of me as well."
Fond seems an understatement- she very clearly adores him. With a chorus of happy little mews, she circles his legs and rubs against him until he crouches down to offer her his hand. As he does, a shred of parchment flutters from his pocket onto the ground. Eloise targets it like a seasoned warrior and pounces at it with gusto. With a laugh, you kneel down to retrieve whatever this paper she's captured might be.
"Now Eloise, none of that- you must behave genteel-like with guests."
As he firmly lectures the cat, you glance at the paper in your hand. Nearly every inch of it is covered in an elegant, curling script that you imagine must belong to Lorenz. It looks like a... list of some kind. As your eyes scan down the page, you begin to recognize a pattern. Your favorite flowers, favorite desserts, favorite types of books and places around town- plus, to the side, the word "cats?" underlined several times. For a moment, you simply cover your mouth to hold in a snort of laughter. Then, you come to kneel beside Lorenz as he's failing to convince his feline friend to stop swatting at his hair.
"So- you've been taking very thorough notes lately." you say, nudging his arm playfully. He turns to face you with an immediate look of panic. Lavender eyes widen and glance down to the parchment in your hand, then back to you. He visibly deflates and says,
"Goddess- you must find me such a fool-"
You press your lips firmly to his before he can say another word. With a soft noise of surprise, his eyes flutter shut and he leans into your kiss. His lips are wonderfully soft, and the subtle scent of his cologne surrounds your senses as you tilt your head to seal your lips to his more firmly. You're not certain how long you remain like this, but only the dull ache of kneeling on the dirt and the incessant sound of Eloise bapping her paw against the paper in your hand bring you back to your surroundings. When you part from him, you brush aside the silky curtain of his hair to run your hand along his face, and say,
"I had a wonderful time today, Lorenz- and it means the world to me that you put so much thought into this. But next time, you don't have to study so hard, okay?"
For a moment, he seems speechless. Then, he gives a shy chuckle.
"You have bested me yet again, it would seem. How can I ever hope to become a man worthy of you when you are ever more lovely with each passing day?"
Eloise gives an insistent chirp and rubs once more against his leg, evidently tired of distractions from the attention she feels she's owed. Your smile widens, and you scratch her ear fondly.
"I think there's at least two of us who like you just as you are, Lorenz."

for the love of you—part four
summary: a fourth part to my series, “for the love of you.” where rebekah and the reader get closer and have a bit of domestic fluff and where the mikaelsons and the reader realize what could happen if she stays around for much longer.
pairing: slightly romantic! rebekah x reader, platonic! kol x reader, elijah x reader, klaus x reader
word count: 2.1k words
warnings: mentions of death, visions, uhhhh, vampire shit. i mean.
a/n: now, i should have had this done some time ago. however, i'll just dedicate this edition of "for the love of you" to reaching 500 followers!! also. i’ve been in a mega rebekah mood lately, so that’s why she’s getting more “action” than the other siblings rn. lmaoooo.
read part one here, part two here, and part three here.
RECAP
“—[Your name],” Elijah softly said, frowning. "It most definitely was a vision. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t prevent it from happening. You were right to tell Kol, I know you were skeptical of him making fun of you.“
"Hey—”
Elijah stared at Kol, raising an eyebrow. "You know it’s true. You would have, had it not been something so serious.“
Kol rolled his eyes before he cleared his throat. "I’ll go get Klaus and Rebekah.”
He left the room, leaving Elijah standing there with [Your name].
“Are you okay?” Elijah frowned softly at her.
[Your name] frowned. "If it was a vision… what… what does that mean?“
Elijah frowned even more. "Like we said with your being here. We will figure it out.”
Soon, each of the siblings had made their way to the kitchen. [Your name] stayed in her spot by the sink, her hand still gripping at her now warm glass of water.
Klaus looked over at Elijah, a confused expression enveloping his handsome features. “What’s going on?” he asked, taking a seat at the island, close beside Rebekah. There were only two stools at the island—this led to Elijah standing across from [Your name], leaning against the countertop closest to the stove, and Kol standing at the doorway, his arms crossed over his chest.
“It seems as though [Your name] had a vision.”
Klaus turned to her, expectant to hear her vision.
She refreshed Kol and Elijah on her vision, while giving the other two siblings new information. But it was still as terrifying as it had been when she first relayed her vision. Kol dying, people she had yet to meet being in her dream. There were so many things that struck [Your name] as odd, but she still couldn’t get over the fact that she had been bitten—by what, she had yet to figure out.
Klaus frowned deeply. He looked towards his brother. “I would have suggested bringing Bonnie in to figure out what brought her here, but it sounds to me like we should be avoiding each of them for the time being.”
“Agreed,” Kol spoke up from the doorway, rolling his eyes. He was not about to be killed because the Salvatore’s wanted it to happen. Their little human pet would not be the reason he died.
Elijah looked back over at [Your name], frowning. “I suppose we should tell you a couple more things. I didn’t want to overwhelm you on your first night staying here, but a vision is sign enough that you need to know.” He took a hold of her hand and led her over to stand in front of Rebekah and Klaus at the counter. She sat her cup down, nervously looking at each of the siblings.
“We are vampires,” Rebekah softly spoke, reaching out across the counter to take [Your name]’s hand.
Her eyes widened, but she didn’t make any noise. It made sense—if she truly had been bitten in her vision, then that would explain it. She gave a small nod, squeezing Rebekah’s hand.
“Okay.”
Kol blinked slowly at the girl, pushing himself off the doorframe. “Okay? That’s all you have to say?”
[Your name] blinked back at him in the same manner, nodding. “There’s nothing more to say. I… I’m not afraid of any of you. I feel like I should be,” she couldn’t help a small smile from forming on her lips. “But I am not afraid.”
“You’ve no reason to be afraid,” Rebekah softly said, smiling in response. “I do believe Kol is trying to tease, but he’s rather bad at it, isn’t he?”
[Your name] grinned, looking back over at Kol. If he had the ability to blush, he was sure that he would have. Kol just rolled his eyes and came over to the counter, leaning against it. He looked at Elijah and cleared his throat with an awkward cough.
“Well? What will we do about it?”
“I will reach out to a couple of witches,” Elijah said. “But until I am able to get a hold of any of them, we will all do our parts in keeping each other safe. Kol, I advise that you stay near one of us if you go out. If anything, try to stay home.”
Kol rolled his eyes once more. “Whatever.”
“And [Your name],” Elijah said, turning to face the woman. “I am sure that we will have to get you well-acquainted with Mystic Falls, despite your visions. We will not keep you cooped up—you are in no way our prisoner.”
[Your name] watched her soulmates, giving a knowing nod. She had a feeling that they each knew what to do, even if she felt like she was drowning in endless bouts of information. But soon enough, things would make sense. It had to.
[]
The morning after their discussion, Rebekah woke [Your name] and practically forced her to get ready for the day. Rebekah used what makeup she could on [Your name]’s face, and gave her the few hair products that [Your name] would be able to use on her own hair as well. Some time while she was getting ready, Rebekah disappeared and then came back just minutes later with a bag filled with clothing—things that would fit [Your name] and things that she knew she would like.
After Rebekah made her change, she finally told her what all of it was about.
“I am taking you out,” Rebekah smiled, crossing her arms over her chest. “You can call it what you will. A date. A friendly outing. Date would work better since you are my soulmate,” she laughed softly, reaching out to take [Your name]’s hands. “But this way, we can both get out of this stuffy manor and see what Mystic Falls has to offer. Perhaps the more we talk, the more we get to know about each other as well. Is… is that okay, [Your name]?” she smiled. “I don’t want to do anything to make you uncomfortable.”
[Your name] faintly smiled. “You aren’t doing anything that would make me uncomfortable. We… should get a move on, if you want to take me anywhere specific.”
Rebekah grinned. “I have to take you to the shopping center. I am very aware I bought you a couple of outfits, but surely, you need more than just the items I purchased for you!”
“Rebekah,” [Your name] blushed. “I have no money.”
“Nonsense,” Rebekah grinned, taking her hand in hers. She leaned over to press a quick kiss to her cheek before leading her downstairs. “You do not have to worry about anything like that while you’re out with me. I promise.”
[]
Only hours later did [Your name] and Rebekah return to the Mikaelson Manor.
Kol was waiting at the doorway, impatiently. He couldn’t believe he just let Rebekah take [Your name] right from out of his nose.
“Took you both long enough,” he huffed softly, opening the door. He took notice of all the bags that the two of them were carrying. His eyes softened at that. Rebekah was just trying to make her feel at home—surely, that is what was happening. Kol began to speak before his brain was aware of what he was saying. “May I help you with those?”
Kol could have hit himself. Hell, he had no idea why he was being so nice to [Your name]. Perhaps it was the fact that she was his soulmate. But despite that, he still could have ended himself right there and saved himself the embarrassment that Rebekah would soon rain down on him. But the smile that lightened [Your name]’s face would make the torment all worth it.
“Yes, please,” she quickly said, moving to hand him some of the bags. But before she knew it, Kol had grabbed every single bag she had and took it up to the guest room that she was staying in. He didn’t show his face again, but [Your name] reminded herself to thank him later.
Rebekah was trying to hold back her laughter as she took the bags upstairs with [Your name].
“I do not know if I’ve ever seen my brother so… flustered,” she laughed softly, sitting some of the bags on the bed and some of them on the floor.
“You think he was flustered?” [Your name] looked over at Rebekah, smiling in return.
“Oh, most definitely.”
Rebekah walked over and took a hold of her hands. “Before we start to unpack everything, why don’t we go and see if Elijah and Klaus have gotten a hold of any one? The sooner we can figure out your vision, the better.”
It was more of a demand, rather than a question. But [Your name] still agreed, allowing Rebekah to lead her down into the living area.
Elijah looked up from where he sat; a woman was sitting beside him.
Rebekah held tighter onto [Your name]’s hand, but not enough to hurt her.
“Elijah. What the hell? I thought we agreed to not have Bonnie and her friends to step foot near [Your name].”
“We did,” Klaus sighed from across the room, pouring himself a drink. “That was before Bonnie showed up, informing us that not only did she bring someone from an alternate universe to our home, but that there is no reversing the spell.”
Klaus came over and sat across from Bonnie, keeping his eyes on her. “And go ahead, Bonnie. Tell them what you told us just moments before my dear sister walked in with my soulmate.”
Bonnie flinched at the tone of his voice, but she knew that it was well-deserved. Bonnie looked over at Rebekah and [Your name] with a deep frown. “I had a vision. The same one that your soulmate had,” she said, talking mostly to Rebekah. “But instead of Kol dying, it was [Your name] who died.”
Rebekah stood there, her eyebrows furrowed. “What do you mean?”
“It means that… that [Your name] being here is not normal. It is changing fate and how our timeline is supposed to go. I was reading through my grimoire and it said that it is possible that someone from an alternate reality showing up in a different timeline can completely derail how fate is supposed to go entirely, unless we send them back. To send them back, of course, I have yet to figure that out.”
[Your name] stood there for just a minute, thoughts swimming through her head. “What… what if I don’t want to go back?” she asked, gripping onto Rebekah’s hand.
Bonnie grimaced. “Then every one that you interact with could face dire consequences.”
“Like?” [Your name] spoke, her heart pounding in her chest. Each of the siblings could hear it.
“Um. Well. Death. Gruesome deaths, not to mention. Mutilation. Wiped memories. Disasters, all around.”
The once happy expression that [Your name] held all that day had diminished within moments. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She didn’t want anything to happen to any of them. She looked between each of the siblings, tears quickly forming in her eyes.
She had only been there for a couple of days, but she knew that she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if anything were to have happened to them. After a moment of silence, [Your name] looked at Bonnie.
“What can we do?”
Bonnie went to stand up. “I will be researching ways to send you back. Until then, each of you should stay out of trouble. Stay here. I’ll let you know what I find.”
As Bonnie left, [Your name] looked at the siblings once more.
“I don’t want to leave you all,” she said, tears beginning to spill. “But I couldn’t… I can’t stay if that means each of you will get hurt.”
Rebekah let go of her hand, turning to face her. She quickly wrapped her arms around [Your name]’s shoulders, giving her a tight hug. [Your name] returned it, burying her face in the blonde’s neck.
“There has to be something that we can do,” Rebekah said, her eyebrows furrowed. “Bonnie’s magic brought her to us. She is our soulmate,” she spoke, looking over at her older brothers. “Surely there is some way that she can stay without it hurting everyone.”
“If Bonnie finds a way,” Elijah said, a defeated look spreading across his features, “then [Your name] can stay. But if not…” It seemed like it pained Elijah to say anything else. “If not, we cannot allow her to stay. For our safety, and for yours, [Your name].”
[Your name] lifted her head from Rebekah’s embrace and she locked eyes with Elijah. “I know.”
There were many times throughout their lives that the siblings felt defeated. They could add this to their growing list of grief. They finally found their soulmate, and now, they happened to find out that their soulmate could be the end of everything as they know it—even if she didn’t mean for it to happen.
Rebekah slightly pulled back and pressed a soft kiss to [Your name]’s forehead. “We will find a way to keep you here. I will not allow you to go back to a place where you feel unwanted. To a place where we aren’t there to keep you safe.”
[Your name] closed her eyes, appreciating her kind words, but the only thing that she could think about was the fact that she would be the Mikaelson siblings undoing.

Portraits of a Tiger|| 01
Legends of a great and equally terrifying warrior nicknamed the Tiger have been emerging from your fellow villagers for quite sometime. Stories of his skill, his stealth and his supposed wickedness have been passed around to the point where he is more prophecy than person. When the Tiger and his infamous army arrive in your village to refuel, you come face to face with the man behind the myth.
And no amount of marketplace gossip would ever be enough to capture the true complexity of his nature.

My sweet angel, you are the greatest in the world and I love you. Please go follow Rachel and send her all the love in the universe and thank her for her genius brain because, without her, this fic wouldn’t exist.
War.
It’s not an uncommon occurrence where you’re from.
The ever-present shifting of the borderlines is a constant reminder of the struggle for power.
Many see it as a valiant effort, a noble cause...
But, war is something that doesn’t appeal to you.
It doesn’t sit right with your perspective on the world.
Sure, you understand it’s strengths and why it could be seen as necessary.
However, the consequences of war, of violence- never seem to be worth it.
Death.
It’s not an uncommon occurrence where you’re from.
When war is constantly raging on the background, it should be expected.
It should be normal.
To most of your district, it is.
To you?
Every single rise in the death toll sends icy despair into your heart.
Every drop of blood spilled feels as though it’s your own.
You’re desperate to find the solution for peace but, you know it’s not that simple.
Man is never content.
The struggle for power is never ending.
As you grow up, you learn to adapt.
Learning a trade is the easiest way to establish yourself so, you take up knitting and medicine.
You sell your wears and remedies in the market every other day and spend your off days replenishing the stock that you sold.
Your parents live comfortably but in order for them to do so, you’re in the market for hours on end.
Today starts as any other.
You’re gathering your wears in your family’s home as the sun is beginning to peak over the mountains.
The colors it throws through your window are breathtaking and, if you weren’t so exhausted, you’d be able to enjoy them a bit more.
Thankfully, your preparations don’t wake your parents as they sleep soundly in their bed.
You wish for nothing more than for them to be at peace every chance they get.
They have sacrificed so much.
The market displays its usual scenery.
The fishermen are always first setting up their catches from the evening prior, the butchers are hanging up their kills from the overnight hunt whilst the farmers arrange seasonal produce on their carts...
You always have your cart near the end of the market.
It’s easier for people to think about softer things such as knitted blankets or healing elixirs once they’ve purchased their food.
Thankfully, business is decent.
Your wares are well-made and your elixirs have an exceptional success rate.
The prices are fair so you attract all walks of life but, you focus more on serving the lower class folk such as yourself.
One of the fisherman, who you’ve grown acquainted with over the last few months, nods to your cart as you’re setting it up.
“What do you have today __?”
With a smile, you hold up a mauve woolen blanket which you’ve spent nearly two weeks on.
“This is the item of the day. I used a root dye to get the color- what do you think?”
He purses his lips, nodding in consideration, “I’m sure someone will snag that right away. It looks warm. It will be very useful over the next few months. Do you have any of that uh- “ Lowering his voice, he cranes his neck to assess whether or not any of his team can hear him, “ginseng mixture that you sold to me last week?”
You bite back a smirk as you nod towards the woven basket containing your various medicines, “I do. I made a new batch last night. Did you need some?”
A rapid nod is sent your way along with a handful of coins, “Thanks. It worked wonders last time. My wife sends her gratitude.”
Your cheeks heat up immediately but given that you’ve heard worse things in the market place, you merely giggle and file your payment away.
Ginseng is a natural stimulant that you often recommend to men experiencing issues with sex or fertility. Whilst you completely stand by its effectiveness, you won’t deny that it’s slightly awkward working with the men you’ve helped. Especially since they often insist on loudly announcing how many times they had sex the night before.
The rest of the setup goes smoothly and by the time the sun fully takes its place in the sky, you are ready for the market to open.
As your adjusting the sign on the front of your cart, you hear an interesting bout of conversation ignite in front of you
“Did you hear? The Royal Army is arriving today to refuel.”
“You’re lying. Are you serious? Do they- do you think they have him with them?”
“Of course! They aren’t stupid enough to travel without him. They’d be ambushed immediately.”
“Yah, what are you talking about?”
“The Tiger. He’s coming through town today.”
Instantly, your heart stalls in your chest.
You try your best to appear unbothered but, it doesn’t stop the panic from seeping into your bones.
The Tiger and the fleet of warriors he oversees are well-known in your village.
Word of mouth is truly a powerful mechanism for spreading information and, stories of The Tiger had been circulating for quite sometime.
They started out simply depicting a powerful new recruit into the Royal Army.
Despite his initial inexperience, The Tiger quickly rose through the ranks due to his otherworldly fighting skills.
According to the rumors, The Tiger was known for his silent destruction.
By the time his enemies could grasp what was happening, The Tiger and his men had already completed their mission.
They had already killed, maimed or destroyed whatever they were after.
A recent success had led to The Tiger becoming the General of the largest fleet in the Royal Army.
From what you had gathered, he wasn’t much older than you so the fact that he essentially lead an entire army is quite impressive.
However, given the stories of his cruel and cold blooded nature, it makes a lot of sense.
“I heard he beheads the enemy general on the battlefield after he wins...”
“I heard he killed 3,000 men all on his own in the middle of a thunderstorm!”
“I heard he keeps a viper on him at all times and he sets it loose on anyone he disobeys him!”
“I heard that he never sleeps.”
“Do you think he’ll come here? Would he be seen out in public like that?”
“Why wouldn’t he? He has nothing to fear, there isn’t a single soul in this village who could take him on.”
“Plus, he never travels alone. He’ll have his men with him.”
With a snort, you continue displaying your cart as normal and, only then do you realize that you stand out amongst the other merchants.
Every single one of them has an offering for the warriors.
It’s not customary to do so and, you’re only viable guess is that it has something to do with the market fawning over this tiger character.
“Were we supposed to put something out?” You murmur to the woman beside you, brows knitting in confusion.
She chuckles heartily, “When a normal fleet enters, no. We usually just offer them food and the resources we can spare.” A bit of excitement flashes through her eyes as she adjust the basket of radishes on her cart, “However, this is no ordinary fleet. I suggest you put something out too dear, that pretty face of yours could land you husband on the Tiger’s army, any one of his men would be a worthy mate. They aren’t shooting blanks like my husband over here!”
Her body jostles with laughter as she shoves her hand up against the man beside her, who looks whole-heartedly unamused.
“Jane, please...” He grumbles
You can’t help the grimace that comes across your face when Jane mentions finding a husband but, it’s quickly replaced with a mixture of amusement and sympathy.
“I have something for that.” You offer in a hushed tone and, the man seems to unfurl from his submissive position as he offers a meek smile.
“You do?”
You don’t have time to answer him before the mood of the market shifts into quiet chaos.
“I think they’re coming!” The fisherman whispers frantically, adjusting the sign on his cart for the millionth time.
As much you hate to give in to the hype, you feel compelled to go with the flow and, put something out for the warriors.
You settle on a basket of your most popular anti-inflammatory ailment that’s proven to be quite effective amongst your customers.
The long strips of white wood are haphazardly placed into a woven basket as you brace your ears for the piercing sound of trumpets.
Magnificent as the musicians in your village are, the blaring cacophony of noise is far from something you wish to be apart of this early in the morning.
However, the noise never comes.
The gates open up as normal as a reasonable size crowd begins meandering throughout the market.
You turn towards Jane with confusion painting your features, “Where’s the music?”
Jane is adjusting her radishes once again, glancing eagerly towards the crowd of people, “The Tiger does not allow fanfare of any kind. A far away village defied his orders once and played for him and his fleet anyway and- well...” She smirks bemusedly, “it didn’t end well for them, so we respect his wishes.”
Your eyes widen at that as you nod, swallowing back any fear that threatens to crawl up your throat.
“Got it.”
The usual slew of customers begin filing in and as business begins to pick up, you slowly forget about the famous warriors that were to enter.
Roughly, an hour later, your basket of willow bark remains untouched and, you begin to consider putting it back in its normal place. This particular bark is quite annoying to obtain and you don’t feel great about giving it away to some warrior after you’ve spent hours trying to procure it.
However, as you glance at other offering baskets, you notice that some of them have been emptied.
This means of course that either your fellow merchants put their offerings away or, the warriors are already in the market.
A strange and unsettling feeling washes over you at the thought of deadly warriors perusing throughout town. You expected that they would be recognizable, especially given their reputation but, nothing seems to give away their presence.
As a paying customer leaves your cart with an armful of various items, you notice something that normally doesn’t garner your attention: hair.
You see it amongst the crowd, peeking over the tops of heads.
It’s a shimmering icy platinum and it’s tied up atop a strangers head with a beaded string. It moves throughout the crowd slowly, stopping at various points, likely exchanging words with another merchant before you finally make out the face it belongs to.
A man dressed in cotton linens maneuvers out of the crowd, dark eyes scanning his surroundings almost anxiously. As he moves closer to you, you’re able to fully take in his features.
Pointed and smooth, his face is the epitome of contradiction.
Deep brown eyes, rounded button-nose, pouty lips and strong eyebrows adorn his face whilst his rather large hand flexes instinctually towards the object hanging off of his hips.
It’s a sword.
This man certainly isn’t a civilian.
Unfortunately, you’re unable to ignore the beauty he possesses. He is quite ethereal once you get a closer look at him; you don’t think you’ve ever seen another person that looks quite like him.
As he speaks with the fisherman, your ears perk up to in an attempt to hear the sound of his voice.
Faintly, you can discern a bit of rasp and calculation in his tone but, you aren’t able to absorb it over the sound of the market.
Its then you realize that you’ve been staring at this stranger for far too long and, if you’re ever going to meet your quota today, you need to avoid distractions.
You sell another one of your blanket moments later, increasing your daily total by a reasonable amount. Making blankets is enjoyable yes but, it’s extremely time consuming so it feels good when someone rewards you for your hard work.
“Please have some radishes! They’re grown in top soil from the northern region! It gives them a certain uh- “ Jane’s shrill voice pulls your attention towards her cart which now brandishes a new visitor: the stranger with the blonde hair.
You're realizing that Jane is pausing mid-sentence because, she is desperately looking to you for answers.
You've assisted Jane with her produce before as she was having trouble with the flavor of some of her vegetables. This was mainly due to the fact that she had been using the wrong kind of fertilizer but, you had also given her several tips to improve the overall taste of her produce.
“A certain crunch...” You finish for her, stabilizing your tone as you brave a glance towards the man. “The mixture of the soils helps with the texture.”
His feline gaze rushes towards you at the sound of your voice, as if he wasn’t expecting you to speak.
At the sight of you, his lips part momentarily before quickly sealing in a tight lipped smile which directs toward Jane.
“Thank you.” He nods toward her as he takes one of the radishes and tucks it into the pocket of his linen pants.
“Of course! Um thank you- sir for your...services...” She stutters and it’s then you notice that she hasn’t made eye contact throughout the entirety of their conversation.
A bit of discomfort flashes through his eyes but otherwise, he merely grunts in acknowledgement.
Jane’s comment is the last bit of confirmation you need that this man is indeed a warrior.
However, his reaction to her words strikes you as odd. Warriors rarely shy away from gratitude. They are often proud and boastful regarding their positions but, he seems to be bothered by what she said.
The man never looks back at Jane as he makes his way to the next cart. Every so often, you notice him looking over his shoulder or glancing towards the entrances/exits of the market. His presence doesn’t necessarily make you uneasy but, his behavior sure does.
He acts as though he is in danger.
It puts you on edge but, you direct your attention back to the customer in front of you.
“Good morning.” You smile, “Anything catch your eye?”
The man cards a hand through his salt and pepper hair as he leans over your cart, eagerly scanning the items you have on display.
“Eh do you have anything for dry skin? With winter around the corner, I gotta start thinking about this old skin of mine. The wind does a lot of damage on my knuckles.”
“You know what? I think I have just the thing...” You bend down to access the crate beneath your counter and grab a medium sized glass bottle, “This is an olive oil and honey treatment, it will treat dry skin immediately but, it’s meant to treat dry skin over a longer period of time too. I also-” You bend down once more to grab a tin of cocoa butter and place it on the counter top, “have this. This should help with daily wear and tear. You only need a little bit so this tin should last you through the winter.”
The man smiles eagerly and quickly reaches for his pockets before he freezes. You don’t notice until you look up from your counter but, the platinum haired warrior is back and, he’s standing right behind your customer.
“O-Oh go ahead, go ahead. I uh- I'll go next...” The man stutters, gesturing frantically to your cart.
With a quirked brow the warrior moves to step in front of him until you raise your hand.
“No sir, it’s ok. You’re in the middle of a transaction.” You insist, eyeing the warrior sternly, “I’ll be with you in a moment.”
The immediate crowd surrounding your cart seems to pause, nervously glancing towards the warrior who merely nods and steps back into place.
The shock is apparent on the faces of the crowd but you ignore it and send a reassuring smile towards your customer, “Ok, that will be 11.50 and-” You slide a bundle of rosemary towards him, “take this too, on the house. Brew it in some hot water to aid digestion, winter food tends to be a bit harsher on the system.”
The man swallows nervously, dragging his items toward his chest, “Thank you—uh so much. Thank you.” He turns towards the warrior, directing his gaze towards his feet as he bows his head, “Thank you for your service...”
The man doesn’t allow the warrior time to respond before he rushes off back into the crowd but, you get the feeling that it wouldn’t matter regardless.
The warrior doesn’t seem interested in anyone’s gratitude.
“Let me know if you have any questions.” You nod your head towards him, pushing the basket with your offering towards the edge of the counter before busying yourself with putting a few things back in their place.
He says nothing but, he approaches the counter whilst his eyes shrewdly observe the ins and outs of your set up.
He’s even more striking up close. His smooth, tan skin is mostly unmarked except for the giant scar running down the center of his right eye. It goes up the center of his eyelid and disappears right above the center of his brow. It’s still red and angrily risen against his otherwise angelic looking face.
A warrior indeed.
The bit of people around your cart haven’t stopped their staring but, they are at least making an attempt to look like they aren’t paying attention. It doesn’t stop you from wishing that you didn’t have an audience.
“Tree bark?” He questions with an arch to his brow
You look towards the basket he’s gesturing to before returning your gaze back to his.
“White willow bark.” You correct, almost defensively and it cause his lips to twitch.
“Is this some kind of decoration?”
You shake your head, placing your fingers on the edge of the basket, “No. It’s meant to be chewed. It reduces inflammation. I figured it would be useful since I imagine you deal with muscle soreness quite often.”
He smirks, “Amongst other things yes,” With long elegant fingers, he points to the basket, “So- if I chew on this, I should feel relief from any pain I might be experiencing?”
An all too rapid nod comes from you as you continue your explanation, “Well it’s mainly used to treat pain in your muscles and joints. If you’re looking to treat other types of pain, I have other options...”
He shakes his head, his hair swishing to the side as he does, “This should do, thank you.”
You suspect that he’s done, given that the bark is (annoyingly) free and he’s only seemed to be interested in the offerings thus far so, he surprises you when he asks yet another question.
“Do you have any more of that salve?”
“Of course,” You offer him a smile now that the initial tension is starting to lift, “Did you want a big tin or small tin?”
He purses his lips in thought, looking towards his hands, “What do you recommend?”
Without a second thought, you step towards him and take one of his hands, bringing it closer to your face for inspection.
The man seems to freeze in place, eyes widening in absolute shock, his own limb betraying him as it goes limp.
His hand displays evidence of the life he lives.
Rough, calloused and blistered...
His nails are bitten down to a point that almost looks painful but, the thing that stands out the most is how beautiful his hand is to you.
The strength in his skin is palpable and the indigo veins protruding against his hand are a firm reminder of what he is likely capable of.
What you don’t notice however, is the utter panic that flushes across his face or the way his eyes dart nervously between you and his hand.
Just as you would during any consultation, you briefly run your fingers over the palm of his hand and up the length of each of his fingers
“Hmm I would recommend the big tin, I think...you have a lot of rough spots but the skin between your callouses is quite smooth so,” You carefully set his hand back onto the counter and return your eyes back to his, “what that tells me is that your skin is roughened by your environment rather than by an actual lack of moisture.” You slide the big tin towards him, “Apply this to the dryer areas as needed throughout the day but, every night before you go to bed, make sure to put this on. Sleeping with it will allow it to seep into your skin and heal the dryness over time.”
The warrior’s eyes are transfixed on you and for a moment he is completely speechless, his hand lingering on the counter before hurriedly places them back at his side.
He can’t understand you and why you just touched him.
But what’s worse, is he can’t understand why his mouth is suddenly dry.
Or why his skin is on fire...
Or why his heart is thrashing around in his chest.
He clears his throat and nods, “Very good. I’ll be sure to follow your instructions.” He sticks the hand you didn’t touch into his pocket, fishing around for something, “What’s my total?”
“That will be 3.50.” You say with a smile, holding out your hand.
He dispenses his payment into your palm before stowing his items away in his free pocket.
“Thank you.” He grunts, the hand you touched still kind of awkwardly lingering away from his body.
Was he going to wash it as soon as he got the chance?
Did you smell weird?
“Of course, have a nice day. Safe travels.” With a wave, you send him off, missing the small smile that momentarily appears on his face.
You’re genuinely relieved that the encounter is over but, you’d be lying if you said that it didn’t intrigue you.
Before you’re able to get your bearings and move on, Jane is rushing over to you frantically.
“What on Earth was that??? Do you know him??? Why didn’t you tell me you knew him?!” She swats your arm, her eyes wide with incredulity.
“Ow!” You grip your arm, “What are you talking about?”
The man has already disappeared back into the crowd but, you’re still attempting to keep your voice at a reasonable level.
Jane does not follow suit.
“You just put your hands on the Tiger!” Jane shrieks causing you to recoil in response, “He could kill you for that! What were you thinking?”
“He’s going to kill me because I touched his hand?” Your brow arches in amusement, as your lips threaten to smile, “I had no idea who he was Jane, I was just helping a paying customer.”
She doesn’t like your answer and quickly swats your arm again, “Y/N this is not a joke! He’s a dangerous man. I nearly fainted when you looked him in his eyes but, then you touched him and-”
“Jane, that’s enough.” The fisherman hisses, gesturing wildly to the crowd of people, “You’re making a scene and he’s still out here somewhere.”
She huffs her hands rushing to smooth out the apron over her dress before rushing a finger into your face, “You won’t be laughing if he shows up at your house with a sword in your face. You need to be careful.”
You smirk at this but otherwise comply, not wishing to fire her up any further, “Thank you for your concern Jane, I’ll make sure to carry my sword around too, you know, just in case.”
Jane snorts then and rolls her eyes, scurrying back to her cart and mumbling something along the lines of:
“That mouth is going to get you killed...”
You can’t help but giggle.
There’s no doubt that the man you just spoke to was a warrior and, maybe he was some almighty warrior but he other than an intense staring problem, he didn’t scare you at all.
Thankfully, business is booming for the remainder of the day and although you’re thrilled at the money you’ll be taking home, you aren’t looking forward to all the replenishing you have to do.
The last order of business before heading home is picking a few things for your parents and grabbing the last of the steamed buns for your best friend.
Rachel has lived beside you ever since you can remember. The two of you spent most of your childhood running around the village, causing mini bouts of chaos everywhere you went. Despite the challenges life had brought the both of you, you grew together rather than apart.
Rachel is the village’s most treasured teacher and she’s been running the school for the past few years. She’s kind of the best and, you have a feeling she’ll be interested to hear about the rather interesting events that had transpired over the course of your day.
As you turn down the dirt path towards her home, you start to wonder where the Tiger and his fleet would be staying.
Your village wasn’t run-down but it wasn’t exactly luxurious by any standards.
The rubble near the beginning of the street along with the various empty wooden barrels doesn’t exactly count as décor and, the occasional drunken argument outside the village’s tavern certainly doesn’t add any class to the area but, its home.
Rachel's house is easy to spot amongst the rest of the street as it’s the only one completely covered in plants.
She’s had a love of greenery for quite sometime and, it’s amongst the many things you two bond over.
Adjusting the bag on your shoulder, you immediately reach for the handle and use all your weight to shove the front door open.
Rachel is sitting on her sofa and despite the fact that she was expecting you, she still jumps at the sound.
“Oh my goodness!” She exclaims “Have you ever heard of knocking???”
You giggle but otherwise ignore her and lean against the door dramatically, “Rachel, you better get one last look at me because, this might be the last time you ever see me.”
She laughs lightly and folds her arms, “What did you do this time? Did you call the apothecary a fraud again?” Wiggling her fingers, she reaches out for the snacks your holding.
“Ok first of all, he is a fraud but no....it’s much much worse.” You shove the snacks into her awaiting hands before flopping down on the armchair, “I touched a man’s hand...”
She freezes, the bun lingering near her mouth, “Alright, now I am officially curious, why is hand touching worse?”
You smirk, “I touched...the Tiger’s hand” You point a finger at her quickly as her lips part, “Before you even make the joke, no it wasn’t a real tiger...it was THE tiger.”
Rachel snorts with laughter before going wide-eyed in shock, “You...wha--the Tiger? THE Tiger??? You TOUCHED the Tiger?!!?!? What were you thinking?!? Oh my god, did he bite? Wait, focus, Rachel---Why did you touch the Tiger?!?”
Whilst she’s rambling on you burst out in a fit of giggles, snuggling back against the chair, “He came to my cart looking for a good salve for his hands. All I did was do an assessment as I normally do to see what he needed. I don’t understand why everyone is freaking out...he seemed pretty harmless to me.”
She leans forward on the couch, “Harmless? He seemed...harmless?!?” She whispers frantically, “He has personally slain hundreds of men with those very hands!!!
“Why are we whispering?...”
Rachel returns to normal volume, rolling her eyes “Fine. More like thousands if you count how many his army has obliterated. And you just pawed at him--are you insane? He has killed people for less! At least that’s what the rumors say.”
You keep giggling, completely unfazed as you make yourself at home, “The rumors also say that he killed an entire village because they played their trumpets for him. I don’t know how credible these rumors are.”
“Well....what was he like then? You cannot drop this information on me and not give me every detail.” She insists, gesturing wildly at you before leaning back and sipping from her mug.
“Uh he was fine. I mean- he was normal I guess, I don’t know. He has really long hair, its blonde- like really blonde. He looks young, way younger than I thought he’d be. He has a big scar over his eye. Jane was practically drooling over him...”
Realization crosses Rachel’s face as she watches you intently. She relaxes back into her chair as a knowing smile spreads across her face, “Ohhhh young, blonde, mysterious...Jane must really HAVE been drooling. Seems like she’s not the only one, though...”
“I mean- the fisherman guys were pretty excited too I guess. I don’t know what the big deal is honestly, I know he’s supposed to be good on the battlefield but they were treating him like he was some kind of king or something.” You narrow your eyes “Are you suggesting I was drooling over him? Because I definitely wasn’t...I even told him to wait his turn in line.” You insist, shifting around on the chair.
Rachel crosses her legs dramatically, steeping her fingers as she observes you, “Was that before or after you found out he was handsome? Hmm?” She smirks again, holding her hands up innocently, “I am implying nothing, I am just NOTICING that you are definitely affected by him. I haven’t seen you impressed by....well, anyone.”
She’s not wrong.
“Hey hey whoa...who said anything about impressed?? I’m not impressed. I’m not impressed at all.”
Rachel eyes you suspiciously”...right...not impressed at all. Well, did you at least hear anything about them? Any word on how long the army will be here? We’ve got to be the safest village in the country as long as they are in town.” Suddenly, she facepalms in realization, “My students will be so distracted as long as they are here.”
“Not impressed. He’s just a man with a scar and sword...” You insist, twiddling your thumbs “I guess they are just refueling, I’m not sure how long they will be here. Jane told me I need to watch my back so, hopefully not for long...” You giggle again, thinking of how excited the schoolchildren will be now that the legendary Tiger is in town, “maybe you can make an assignment out of it...”
She stares off into space for a moment and mutters, “that’s not a bad idea...we could get outside, maybe a soldier could come speak to them? There’s got to be at least one that’s not terrifying?...” Rachel shakes her head, unimpressed with your lack of understanding, “Just a man with a scar and sword—he is the most feared military leader of our generation! And I wouldn’t worry TOO much about watching your back. After all—none of the legends involve the Tiger killing civilians, do they? At the very least his presence here means good business for the village. If you can get the Tiger as a repeat customer I can only imagine the profits you’ll turn at that little stall!” She muses, laugh heartily, “Buy the salve that soothed a beast! I can hear the gossip already...”
You point a finger at her, “I like the way you think. If you ever want to stop educating and enriching the minds of our youth and be my business partner, let me know...” Suddenly the humor within you dissipates as the reality of your situation seems to sink in, “You don’t think I should be worried though right?”
Rachel lets out a short laugh, “Thanks for the offer...” She shakes her head, “As far as this Tiger business is concerned...I don’t think your safety is under any threat. How did he react when you touched him? Did he seem angry?”
“He just froze...” You recall, your eyes unfocusing slightly, “It was kind of weird honestly. I’ve never had anyone do that before. It’s pretty normal to get checked out during an apothecary visit. I guess I wasn’t supposed to look at him either but, how the hell am I supposed to do an exam if I can’t look at his face?”
“Hmmm...that is strange. I’ll be honest, I thought he would have scolded you or pulled away based on the stories. Unless...” Rachel slumps back against her sofa, her face relaxing into a smirk, “...he was just as surprised by you as you were of him.”
You wrinkle your nose, “Ew no. Definitely not.”
Rachel doesn’t look convinced but you continue nevertheless, suddenly wishing to change the subject.
“He looked nervous I guess- I don’t know. His hand just sort of hung there after I finished. Today was weird...anywayyy-” You nod to the dough between your palms, “How are the buns? Did anything interesting happen in the education world.”
“Oh three boys got in a worm eating contest and threw up on their practice parchment so I could go without that kind of interesting for awhile. The buns are transcendent as usual but you-” She narrows her eyes in your direction, “- are dodging. Why would a general be nervous around you hmm? You said he is young...is he also handsome?”
“Ah god I love kids...” You note with a giggle before shrugging, shrinking back into the chair, “I don’t know. Objectively he- he definitely wasn’t ugly.”
Rachel raises an eyebrow, “I sense there is more to it than that.”
“Fine. He was easily the most handsome man I’ve ever seen in my life. There! Are you happy now?” You grumble before dramatically staring off into the distance, “Oh to be murdered by the most handsome man alive...how romantic.”
This prompts a twinkling bout of laughter from Rachel who has finally finished the first of her many snacks, “I can think of worse ends my friend. Perhaps that was your only interaction? I am sure he is busy making preparations; too busy to be executing smart-mouthed apothecaries. I wouldn’t fret too much Y/N.”
With you sigh, you accept her analysis, sending a nod her way, “You’re probably right and, that’s probably for the best.” Despite the conviction in your tone, you can feel the disappointment on your face, “Thank you for calling my mouth smart.” You smirk before nodding toward the door, “I should probably head home. My father has a nasty cough and I seriously doubt he’s taken the medicine I left for him.”
Meeting you at the door, Rachel pulls you in for a big hug, “The smartest mouth in town- that's why I keep you around. Give your father my love and tell him, if he gives you a hard time—I will find out!”
You laugh, hugging her tightly, “The second smartest mouth in town...” You insist, “let’s do the tavern this weekend please. The children have been taking all your time and I miss my best friend!”
“Of course! No pack of tiny ruffians can get between me and a night out.”
You pat her shoulder gently before stepping out of the doorframe, “That’s right.” You smile, thankful to have someone like her in your life, “love you, have a good night.”
“Good night, sleep tight...” She sings, slowly closing the door, “don’t let the Tiger bite!” She laughs wildly before slamming the door shut to prevent your retaliation.
She’s a menace.
The walk back home is pleasant, the fall breeze nips at your skin through your sweater but, it feels refreshing against your flushed cheeks.
Your parents are asleep by the time you return home.
It’s common for you to arrive well past their bedtime but, despite your lack of contact, they still manage to make you feel loved.
On the kitchen table sits bowl of stew and freshly baked bread, along with a new blanket for the winter.
Your mom makes a fresh one everywhere with thicker fabric to combat the icy freeze of the winter climate. The stew will be cold but, your heart will be warm and your stomach will be full.
In truth, these are the only things that matter to you.
Living simple certainly has it’s drawbacks but overall, you are comforted by it. Your parents raised you to be thankful for the things you have and to only set your sights on obtaining things that truly matter to you. It doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have goals but, your parents have always stressed that external success can be fickle and, material possessions only take you so far.
Being content is truly priceless and, you’re thankful they instilled these values into you.
Climbing into bed, you allow your mind to wander to the man you met today.
You couldn’t quite understand the legend behind him. Not to say that he wasn’t worthy of such folklore but, it’s more so that you didn’t exactly understand the warnings behind it.
He didn’t seem scary.
Although, it’s possible his demeanor is something he uses along with his beauty.
It could be that the Tiger lives up his animal comparison.
Beautiful and deadly.
Village gossip shouldn’t keep you awake longer than necessary, you think, it’s time to rest up so that tomorrow’s work day doesn’t feel like a never-ending task.
With the sound of the whistling wind just outside your home, you slowly close your eyes and drift off to sleep.
Your plan for a peaceful nights rest is completely demolished when you feel the frantic hands of your mother shaking you awake.
“Y/N! Wake up! Wake up! Raiders- they are raiders outside, hurry!” She drags the covers off of you, “We have to go!”
In a haphazard blur, you spring to your feet and arm yourself with a few important possessions and your sword.
Your parents tow behind you as you make your way out of your home.
The village is in utter chaos; shouting, clanking metal, screaming, amber flames peaking out from above the rooftops.
You grab your mothers arm, keeping her close to you as you try your best to follow procedures.
Like most smaller villages, your area is equipped with a protocol that will ensure the least amount of damage if there were to be an invasion.
Collect the essentials and gather your loved ones
Arm yourself
Make your way to the town square; there is strength in numbers.
Allow the raiders to take what they want (with the exception of human lives)
Negotiate
Simple in theory but, rarely in practice.
It’s difficult to keep up with a protocol during times of intense stress.
Amidst the chaos, you see Rachel scrambling out of her house, with a bag slung over her shoulder.
You cry out for her, desperately hoping she will hear your voice over the madness,
“Rachel! Over here!”
With wide eyes, she reaches out for your mother’s hand, bowing her head to shield from any possible debris.
“The army is here, they will protect us.” Your father murmurs solemnly beside you, his face stoic and rid of any bit of positivity
This could end very badly.
The four of you rush into the town square, trying your best to remain calm throughout the screaming, back up against a wall. Your grip tightens on your mothers hand as you spot the tents of the armed guests currently residing in your village.
The raiders continue their plundering throughout the town accompanied by the sounds of glass breaking and shouting.
Suddenly, there is a different sound: the clanking of swords. Briefly, you can see glimpses of armor peeking out of homes, the sight causing your eyes to widen.
“Look!”
Rachel and your parents crane their necks to see what you’re pointing out as the sounds coming from within your village begin to change.
Grunting, groaning, more clanking swords and a bit of shouting shoot out of the main street like fireworks.
“Clear the path!” An unfamiliar voice shouts and it’s then you can see what’s going on.
The raiders have been captured thanks to the ominous group of tourists that arrived yesterday.
Oddly enough, you don’t even remember seeing them leave their tents and it makes you wonder how the hell they managed to move so quickly undetected.
There are several men, dressed in black and gold armor, dragging the raiders by their shirts to the center of town square. One of them is a tall, doe eyed looking man with shaggy brown hair and biceps that could likely snap a neck if they so desired. He has his sword to the back of one of the raiders who scuffles along on his knees to meet with the rest of his captured teammates.
As the rest of the soldiers file in, another leader of the troop, tall and equally broad, gestures to Bambi with the biceps.
“Jungkook-ah! Bring the leader to the center; let our general deal with him.”
Jungkook does just that, quickly the toe of his boot into the back of the raider and jerking his head to the center of the plaza, “You heard him- move.” He grunts and the raider reluctantly shuffles forward.
Your fellow villagers are reasonably alarmed but, they all seem to freeze in place as they watch the show unravel before them.
This is already more excitement than your village has had in ages and, you’d be lying if you said you weren’t eating it up.
The man who has now been identified as Jungkook, steps away from the raider, still pointing his sword at him, a smug smirk on his face, “You know for a master thief, you were far too easy to catch. Lucky for me, I made a bet with my brothers here that I would catch you in 10 minutes,” Jungkook walks back towards the man, entangling his fingers in the roots of his hair before tugging backwards, “, and according to the clock tower, it only took me 8.”
Beside you, Rachel seems to swallow back her surprise before subconsciously starting to fan her face,
“Goodness, he really is something huh?”
Despite the tense nature of the situation, her demeanor makes you giggle,
“Stop drooling over the calvary...”
She smacks you playfully which causes your father to shush both of you, a moment which reminds you of your schoolyard days.
A bit of immaturity is actually refreshing after the events of this morning.
“Jungkook-ssi,” A voice bellows throughout the plaza, sending a chill down your spine, “What have I told you about placing bets on our captors huh?”
As the voice grows louder, you see him: the Tiger, stepping out from the main street, his long platinum hair flowing freely in the wind. His hand brandishes a sword, one that most certainly possesses the ability to inflict some serious harm.
Sheepishly, Jungkook smirks, releasing the man’s hair roughly and stepping back to his original spot, his sword posing to strike.
“Sorry hyung, this one was just too easy. I saw him skirting the perimeter last night, I know it would be a sure win once I saw his technique.”
So that’s how the army was able to move so quickly; they already anticipated this attack.
The Tiger chuckles darkly, his eyes alight with pure delight, “Aish- what am I going to do with you people hm?”
He moves like his name; slow, deliberate, deadly- you know that you’re about to witness an execution and you aren’t sure if you can stomach the sight, even if these raiders deserve it.
Its your turn to swallow back your reaction to him which doesn’t go unnoticed by your best friend standing beside you.
“Now look who’s drooling...” She teases, giggling as you playfully shove your elbow into her side.
The crowd is dangerously still, hanging on each syllable the Tiger speaks whilst his men, six other soldiers roughly his size, watch intently.
The rest of the raider clan are being held captive by the remainder of the fleet, bowing their heads in shame and fear but, the leader seems unaffected by their defeat.
“You lot aren’t men.” The man spits, his accent thick, “you’re narcissistic little boys who like to play dress up. You’re cowards, hiding behind your swords, killing everything that stands in your way. You have no idea how the other half live. You have no honor.”
There are gasps throughout the crowd then as your village grows shocked at the way he’s spoken to the Tiger.
If you had any hope that this wouldn’t end violently, it’s been squashed by the time the leader finishes his sentence.
The Tiger however, merely chuckles again, a light smirk on his carnation lips,
“It’s odd that a man who earns his keep by stealing from others would have the authority to lecture my men and I about honor.” He kisses his teeth and slowly raises his sword to brush against the man’s cheek, “Look at all these poor people hm? You've terrified them. Your lack of intelligence isn’t their burden to bear now is it? But you have made it their problem; ripped them from their homes, terrorized their children, their livelihoods and, all because you’re too incompetent to learn your own trade.”
The Tiger’s words infuriate him and the next thing you know, he’s lunging off the ground towards the Tiger, a snarl arising on his mouth.
It prompts your hands to fly to your face and your feet to nearly trip over themselves as you brace for the inevitable fight.
But it doesn’t come.
With one swoop of his arm, the Tiger has the leader knocked to the floor and underneath his leather boot. Jungkook has reacted quickly as well, his arm raising in the air to slice his sword through the man’s body. With one twitch of his hand however, the Tiger stops Jungkook from following through,
“See? You can’t do things like that my friend. Because if you do, my big friend here with the sword will slice your greasy head in two.” The Tiger smirks again, before turning his head over his shoulder, “You folks wouldn’t want to spend the day cleaning blood of your beautiful plaza now would you?”
Overexcited villagers quickly shout various commentary at him,
“Kill him!”
“Cut his head off!”
“Make him pay!”
The Tiger chuckles once more, raising his brows as the man struggles beneath his boot, “Well, I guess you’re lucky they aren’t in charge of your punishment...” He looks up towards the remainder of his fleet, nodding his head at the other prisoners, “Namjoon, Jin: ensure that none of these men are here against their will. If the rest of you are here by choice, I suggest you make yourselves disappear into the forest before I allow these fine people to get ahold of you.”
Immediately, the Tiger’s fleet begin following his orders and take the men away towards their tents. As they walk out of the plaza, only Jungkook, the Tiger and the clan leader remain.
You notice Jungkook scan the crowd then, peering out at the eager faces watching the show he is willingly apart of. Very briefly but noticeably, his eyes land on your best friend and as they do, they seem to linger.
He looks curious, almost boyish in a way as his ways seem to memorize her face but before Rachel even realizes what’s going on, his eyes quickly return to the raider.
“If you’re going to kill me, just do it. Don’t be a coward, I can’t listen to you ramble any longer.” The man growls which prompts the Tiger to push his foot down a little harder upon his back.
“I’m not your executioner, thief. Your fate resides with the Queens.” He explains, matter of factly before jerking his head towards Jungkook, “Put him in the portable cell. I’ll send a notice to the council that we have a criminal that needs to be dealt with.”
Jungkook nods, eagerly crossing the bit of plaza and kneeling down to restrain the man with handcuffs.
He grips the chain linking them and heaves him upwards so he’s standing between the two men.
“I’ll hose him off first,” Jungkook wrinkles his nose in disgust, “I don’t want him stinking up our camp.”
“Fuck you-” The man spits, jerking his wrists in Jungkook’s grip which then causes the Tiger to raise his sword once again.
“Behave yourself, thief.” He commands, his eyes darkening for the first time, “I’m assuming if you’ve heard stories of my fleet, you are privy to the fact that we don’t miss our target. Please don’t give me a reason to live up to my name.”
With that, the two men drag off the clan leader towards the rest of their fleet, not bothering to look back at the dozens of people they just saved.
They ignore the applause, the gratitude, the pleas for them to return and feast.
You have to admit that you’re shocked.
The supposedly wicked and ruthless Tiger sure seems to have quite a bit of restraint and diplomacy.
“Did he- did he really just let him go? Unharmed?”
Rachel asks a very good question and it seems to be the one on your parents minds as well.
“It’s extremely odd. I was fully prepared to witness an execution, he would have been within his right.” Your father notes, his eyes still trained on the center of the plaza.
Generals have a certain level of freedom with the prisoners they choose to capture; they are expected to have good judgement and carry out punishments if necessary.
In essence, the Tiger had every bit of authority to end that mans life and, given that he an eager crowd behind him, it genuinely perplexes you.
“Organized raids come with an automatic life sentence, the leaders are usually executed within a few days of their trial.” Your mother notes and it’s then that Rachel notices your silence.
“Well I think it’s safe to say that you didn’t make it on his hit list. You can’t be worse than a lead raider...” She grins, knowing full well that your confusion also comes with an annoying amount of curiosity.
She also knows that you plan on finding a way to speak with him again.
And she is absolutely right.
--------------------------
“Should I say hi to Jungkook for you? Ask if he’s betrothed?” You tease and Rachel promptly throws balled up dress your way.
You went to her house after the excitement in the town square to bake a batch of fresh bread for the Tiger’s fleet.
Bread is increasingly hard to come by these days due to a crop shortage in the northern region so despite what people may think, most military diets consist of salted meat and corn.
Doughy, fluffy, cheesy, rosemary bread is a luxury.
“I have a feeling you’ll be preoccupied with your mission to court the Tiger.” She retorts but a deep frown comes over her then, as she wraps the last loaf in parchment paper, “Are you sure you should be doing this? Waltzing over to a tent full of dangerous soldiers doesn’t seem like a good idea.”
“I want to thank them.” You insist, loading your basket with the rest of the loaves, glancing up at your worried friend, “All the village ever talks about is how ruthless they are, how cruel they are known to be but, the reality is: they saved us. It must be frustrating to refuel just as any other fleet would and have people gossip about you or fear you unnecessarily. I’m not planning on staying for tea or anything, I just want to show my appreciation.”
Rachel raises her brows, “That’s all hm?”
You nod, “Yep.” Your lips pop with the sound of the p and Rachel remains unconvinced.
“This has nothing to do with the Tiger?”
“Of course not.” Your answer tumbles past your lips far too quickly and, it causes your friend to grin knowingly at you.
“I know that look-”
“Ugh what look?”
“The look. That one-” She points at you, “You’re about to do something you know you shouldn’t.”
Her smile is far too contagious and her knowledge of you surpasses anyone you’ve ever known in your life.
She has your number and there really is no point in lying to her.
“Fine, ok maybe it has a little something to do with the Tiger-” You smirk, trying to stifle the giggle that threatens your disposition, “Don’t laugh at me!”
Rachel’s twinkling laughter fills the room as she rounds the counter. Placing her hands on your shoulders, she smiles fondly at you, “Just be careful ok? I know he intrigues you and honestly I’m not at all surprised but, don’t let your curiosity get in the way of your safety. That’s the most important thing.”
“I won’t.” You promise, smiling back at her, placing your hands on hers, “I promise, I’ll be careful.”
Rachel helps you out once again, insuring you have everything you need before her soft voice is answering a question you asked moments earlier.
“And uh about that Jungkook boy-”
You smirk, “He’s definitely not a boy, did you see his muscles? He looks like he could bench press a mountain lion.”
She grows flustered, “No, I didn’t see any muscles, I have no idea what you’re talking about-”
“Oh so you also didn’t notice him staring at you in the plaza today right?”
Rachel’s eyes widen, “Wait he was?” She clears her throat, amending her eagerness as you giggle, “He definitely wasn’t staring at me don’t be ridiculous. What I was going to say-”
“What you were going to say is that ‘no Y/N, I don’t want you to check on Jungkook’s marital status directly but, should you happen to come across his left hand, let me know whether or not you see a shiny band around his finger, not that I would care or anything. Because, I totally don’t have the hots for him.’ “
Her mouth opens and then closes like a fish before she playfully nudges you through her doorway, “Shut up.”
With a laugh and a few parting words, you are off to visit the tent of your village's heroes.
You would be lying if you said you weren’t nervous.
But you’d also be lying if you said you were nervous for the right reasons.
The concept of walking into the basecamp of a supposedly elite and ruthless fleet is one thing but, talking to someone you find attractive?
Absolutely terrifying.
Your presence is immediately noted by the men inside the camp.
Two of them are seated at a table outside of one of the tents, hands and teeth full of meat, their motions freezing in place as they see you.
As you pass by one of their horses, you notice of them is speaking with a group of raiders.
The conversation seems amicable, suggesting that many of the raider clan was indeed in your village against their will.
You approach the main but, before you are able to make ring the bell on the outside, you are crashing chest first into a very firm and very broad chest.
“Holy-” The voice sounds familiar and as you look up, you are meet with the bambi with biceps himself: Jungkook.
“Hello I-” You attempt to begin but his panicked voice interrupts you.
“Yah hyung??? Uh there’s a-” He swallows thickly stepping away from you, “There’s a girl here!”
The word seems foreign on his tongue and his behavior genuinely surprises you.
Where was the cocky warrior from this morning, brandishing a sword and placing bets on his captors?
“Jungkook, for the last time- we don’t use that word. We say young lady or woman...” Another voice, one you don’t recognize fades into your scope of hearing before pushing open the fabric of the tent. He is arguably just as beautiful as the other men, tall, dark haired, buff- as if he would be anything else.
“Oh, hello. Are you...” The man narrows his brows as he looks towards the group of raiders speaking with one of his counterparts, “Are you with the group or?”
You shake your head, your basket swinging when you turn back towards the village, “Oh no, no I’m from the village. My name is Y/N Y/L/N...” You bow your head slightly, “I came here to bring you this,” You gesture to the basket, “It’s fresh bread. I wanted to thank you for saving my people today.”
You feel the need to rush out your explanation as the rest of the fleet continues to stare at you. In fact, the way they are looking at you is rather unnerving.
It isn’t disrespectful just intrusive; they are looking at you as if you’ve sprouted a second head.
“You-” The man before you cocks his head, looking befuddled, “You came here to- thank us?”
“Well yes, I know bread is hard to come by and I figured you could use a pick-me-up after your fight this morning.”
He smiles now but his incredulity doesn’t change as he takes the basket from your hands, “It’s warm.” He notes, “Did you bake this recently?”
“Yes I baked it today, just now actually uh-” You decide to speak candidly now since the possible threat margin seems to be closing, “You look confused.”
Jungkook is practically hiding behind the man you’re addressing and it takes a large part of you not to laugh at his behavior.
“Forgive me.” He chuckles, “We aren’t exactly used to hospitality. Most villagers avoid us like the plague, it probably has to do with our General but regardless.” He bows his head, “We appreciate the gesture. I’ll make sure to pass along your gratitude to him once he returns.”
“Oh is he not here? I was hoping to thank him myself.” You try and mask the disappointment in your tone, not wishing to come across as stranger than you already did.
The man shakes his head, “No. He often takes a walk after an invasion; gotta make sure the perimeter is secure.” He smiles and you are taken aback by how white his teeth were, “My name is Seokjin, I’m the outreach expert on the fleet and unofficial chef. I promise your bread will be put to good use, it’s been months since we’ve had any decent carbs.”
His comment makes you smile and you are delighted that his demeanor is so welcoming.
“I’m sorry to heart that. Will you be in town long? I can try to set you up with a few more baskets before your departure?”
Seokjin chuckles warmly before snorting as Jungkook paws at the basket, “Easy.” He admonishes but its too late, Jungkook already has half a loaf down in his mouth, his chest rumbling with the sound of his groan.
“Oh my god hyung, it’s so good...”
Seokjin looks disgusted with him but hands him the basket anyway, nodding to the rest of the fleet, “Share. Make sure you save a loaf for Yoongi and I.”
Jungkook happily obliges but not before turning towards you and bowing, “Uh thanks for the- for the bread....”
His sentence is choppy and over before it even begins as he goes bounding off in the direction of his team.
“Pardon him, he’s been in the army since he was fourteen. We haven’t done an amazing job at socializing him but, he’s getting better. He’s still a bit antsy around women though.” Seokjin chuckles, fondness in his eyes, “Ah but to answer your question, yes. We've decided to set up here for a few weeks to train our new recruits. I would love to more of this bread if it’s not too much trouble.”
You smile, waving him off, attempting to conceal your happiness at the news he’s just delivered, “Nonsense, I’d be happy to bake some more.”
“Excellent!” He chirps, clasping his hands together, “I’m sure Yoongi would be happy to know we’ve finally manage to contact with a villager. It’s been an issue for us, stories spread like wildfire you know? And just like wildfire, they tend to do more harm than good.”
“And Yoongi is?”
Seokjin chuckles, “Ah I believe you’d know him better as...” He flutters his fingers dramatically, “ the Tiger.”
Yoongi.
So that was his name.
“Oh yes,” You amend, “I’ve certainly heard of him but, I prefer to make my own judgements rather than succumb to the gossip.”
He smirks, “That’s very noble of you Y/N. I for one,” He places a hand on his chest, throwing a wink your way, “, live for the gossip.”
Your meeting with Seokjin ends soon after that with a promise that you would return with more bread.
As much as you wanted to rush back to Rachel’s house to inform of your meeting with the ‘most dangerous fleet in the world’, you remind yourself that school is in session; a necessary but annoying inconvenience.
However, there are plenty of ways you plan on keeping busy for the remainder of the day and one of them involves visiting the river to collect more herbs for your remedies.
You obviously weren't able to sell your wares today as the marketplace was still littered with evidence of the robbery. Your parents had insisted you take the day off to restock and recuperate whilst they helped the village leaders clean up.
Reluctantly, you agreed and you are now very grateful that you had.
The river has always been one of your favorite places. It was rich, green, buzzing with life and, always a few degrees colder than your village. Surrounded by mossy trees that seem to stretch as high as the clouds, the river is encased with life. Rabbits, squirrels, tortoises, frogs and a plethora of birds all coral in the area the river resides in whilst bears, big cats, wolves and monkeys hide behind the dense forest. It’s any apothecary’s paradise as it is also the residence of any herbs capable of growing in damp areas.
Angelica, Blue Vervain, Marshmallow, Stinging Needle and more: the river is your one stop shop for so many of your essential ingredients.
Today you’re after a particular herb though and armed with another woven basket, you make your way towards the large bushels of it growing at the base of a tree trunk.
Valerian is an essential herb in your arsenal and due to its popularity, it’s something you’re consistently having to restock.
Gathering it carefully, ensuring you don’t disturb the root of the plant.
You are so enthralled with your current task that you don’t even notice that you are no longer alone.
“Is this where the tree bark grows?”
You jump nearly six feet out of your skin, whipping your head around to face your intruder.
Standing before you is the myth himself, the Tiger or as you’ve recently learned: Yoongi.
He’s still in his armor from earlier, his long tendrils pulled back away from his face into a low ponytail. Between his lips, which are curving slightly, is a piece of the bark he had taken from your cart the day prior.
He is chewing it as you instructed.
“You of all people should know not to ambush someone like that...” You breath, placing a hand on your chest, “I could have wacked you with this basket or something.”
He just smirks, “I’ve had worse.” He notes, taking the bark from between his teeth, “I’m sorry I frightened you though, I didn’t expect to see anyone here.”
“Likewise.” You retort, nodding your head at the bark, “Is it helping?”
He shrugs, “Too early to tell I suppose but, it’s tending to my oral fixation so, either way it has a purpose.”
You straighten up a bit more and smooth out your dress, “It will work, it just takes a bit of time.” You assure him before adjusting the herbs in your basket, “I came by your tent earlier to offer my thanks for what you and your men did today, your outreach coordinator Seokjin told me he’d pass along the message but-”
“You did what?”
His tone doesn’t entirely lean one way or the other and you quickly grow worried that you offended him.
“I brought a basket of bread to uh-” You swallow thickly, meeting the intensity of his gaze, “to your camp as a thank you for saving my village.”
Several emotions flicker across his face before he settles on surprise, “I see. Were they polite?”
You can’t help but smile, this day truly has been full of surprises and, Yoongi’s demeanor is only adding to that list.
“I only had the privilege of meeting Seokjin and well- I kind of met Jungkook but, he seemed a little-”
“Awkward?” Yoongi smirks
“A little.” You amend, “But both of them were very polite. They explained that they often don’t receive any hospitality on stops like this; I was very sorry to hear that.”
Yoongi’s teeth seem to catch the inside of his cheek as he nods curtly, “There’s no need for apologies. Hospitality is welcome but, never expected. I try to teach my men that we should never expect gratitude for what we do as it so often comes with a price.”
“I suppose gratitude should be offered situationally then, there was very little draw back to what you did today. Our village is privy to raiders; maybe if word gets around that you all were in town, that might prevent this from happening again.”
He purses his lips before nodding in consideration, “I see you’re point. Regardless of its necessity, gratitude is always welcome: especially when free food is involved.”
His comment makes you giggle and your laughter makes his lips itch in a way they never have.
“I wholeheartedly agree with that. I get a surprising amount of baked goods sent my way doing what I do so, I’ll have no problem dolling out the gratitude while you all are here.”
Yoongi’s brows knit in confusion, “Do you people often pay you in baked goods?”
Laughter flows freely out of your mouth then and you shake your head at his question, “Definitely not, I sell my goods for currency as does any obedient member of society,” At this Yoongi smirks again, he likes your wit, a lot, “but I do receive muffin baskets, cakes, pies and whatnot from happy customers. They’re mainly from women whose husbands have taken my ginseng remedy.”
His curiosity blooms, “And why is that?”
You feel a bit of heat rushing to your cheeks, “Ginseng enhances uh- drive, often times it can be used a stimulant to promote you know-” You’re hoping Yoongi will put the pieces together but instead his eyes remain expectant, “passion.”
The word makes Yoongi straighten up a bit and in an effort to look casual, he nods quickly and hums a little too loudly.
“Ah yes. Of course. Well, as I said- free food is free food right?” He wagers, his fingers rubbing at the bit of bark.
Its your turn to smirk now but, you quickly change the subject when you ask, “Is the leader of the clan secure? I didn’t see him when I passed through your camp.”
He clears his throat, bringing the bark back towards his mouth, “He is. I have him locked up just behind the trees so he isn’t able to influence the new recruits. He had an alarming number of unwilling participants within his group, many of them claimed to be brought there with the threat of physical harm.”
You kiss your teeth and shake your head, “I don’t understand that kind of behavior. I understand that sometimes desperate people do desperate things but, to exert power or harm over another person without a viable cause...it just makes no sense to me.”
He’s intrigued now and as he brings the bark back to his lips, his brow knit with curiosity, “Hm. So do you think there is a justification to steal but not to commit violence?”
You can’t figure out why your opinion would matter to him but, you sure as hell aren’t going to question the length of this conversation.
“I think that some people believe they have no other choice but to steal. Wealth and power aren’t possible without a poor man to stand on, to oppress- I don’t support the idea of taking what doesn’t belong to you but, I could see why people are driven to do so. People are growing tired of being the poor man. Senseless violence isn’t something I could find a justification for. What the raiders often do, is both so I guess-” You hesitate, “I’m conflicted.”
Yoongi is captivated by your explanations, not because they are particularly ground breaking but, because they are particularly human. You aren’t afraid to discuss the complexity of life nor are you afraid to admit when certain things confound you.
“That’s a fair assessment. Do you agree with today’s outcome?”
Your smile returns, as you adjust the basket on your arm again, “I did. Especially because it seemed to surprise everyone, myself included.”
His lips return to his smirk, “Why? Because I didn’t behead him?”
“Exactly.” You breathe out a laugh before continuing, “I for one was shocked to see you deal with the situation without your trusty viper...”
His face turns to one of incredulity, “Oh my- you're not serious are you? Do people genuinely think I keep a viper on me at all times? Do they have any idea how unpractical that is?”
Yoongi’s reaction sends you into a fit of giggles and the sound makes his lips itch again.
He decides he enjoys the sound very much.
“I’m sure you’ve set a few people straight after this morning,” You offer, wiping a bit of moisture from the corner of your eye, “I doubt the rumors will repopulate the same way after you leave.”
“What do you think of them?”
“The rumors?”
“They’re entertaining.” You shrug, “But I don’t like to make assumptions about people unless I’ve met them, not even scary and supposedly cruel generals like yourself.”
The ghost of a smile shows itself on Yoongi’s mouth and his eyes seem to glimmer, pleased with your answer.
“I wish more people had that mindset.”
It’s all he says before promptly dropping the subject again, nodding in the direction behind him, “I should probably head back to camp. I have a feeling that the longer I am away, the smaller my chances of getting any of that bread become.”
“You’re probably right, I have to be back before sunset anyway.” Your parents don’t like it when you’re out at the river after dark, “It was very nice meeting you Yoongi. I hope you enjoy the bread.”
His lips as he realizes something vital, “I’m sure I will. Forgive me, I don’t remember catching your name...”
At his observation, you extend your hand towards his, “Oh of course, my name is Y/N. Y/N Y/L/N.”
Without looking down, he grasps your hand gently as if he were afraid to break it, “Y/N- I’ll remember it.” He promises unnecessarily but it still sends a flutter through your heart, “Get home safe.”
When he releases your hand, you step back towards the bushel of Valerian before smiling once more,
“You too.”
As Yoongi departs from the river, he smirks to himself.
Perhaps this wouldn’t be the routine stop he had planned on.
Perhaps this would be so much more.

Unexpected - Denki x reader (Valentine’s Day)
Word count: 3,978
Warnings: none, aside from a case of “Did not edit, just finished this this morning”
A/n: HOW DID THIS END UP SO LONG?? I swear, I started it with the idea and intention that it would be 1.4k or 1.9k words. How did I accidentally write two thousand more words? Anyway, I hope this is a good valentine fic for Denki boy. I thought of it due to a prompt on tumblr. If I can later remember who it was who made it, I will edit this and have a link to that post.
Edit: Found it. The prompt was made by @love-me-a-good-prompt
~
When was it you started to look at him differently?
"Hey!"
You looked over your shoulder to find Kaminari making his way past several students in the cafeteria to get to you. You turned your body to face him. Though, you felt awkward about still holding your lunchtray, as if it was a barrier between you and him.
"Do you got a date for tomorrow?" he asked with a grin.
Your heart gave a weep at the reminder of Valentine's day. As if the hearts and commercials all over the place weren't enough. "What do you think?"
"Just checking." He dashed to get his lunch tray he had set down, and sped walked to your side as you picked a table to sit at.
Kaminari had been your friend for several months. One day you had simply overheard him talking about a manga, the same one you had read, and you jumped into the conversation. After that, the both of you became easy friends, and frequently had lunch at the same table.
"Why would you even ask?” You slid into a seat at the table. “You know there's no one I'm really interested in."
"Except for fictional characters," he added while getting into his own chair across from you.
"Yeah. Unfortunately they aren't available for me to ask out."
He leaned back in his seat. “We’re really missing out on these things. I thought by the time I was in high school training to be a cool hero, I would have tons of girls who like me by now.”
“And I, for some reason, thought I would magically manifest a special someone. But that’s clearly not happening anytime soon.” You stared down while absent mindedly stirring your food.
He suddenly sat straight and looked at you with a twinkle in his eyes. The kind that told you he had an idea. "What if we did all of that classy Valentine's day stuff together?"
"I think you meant cliche."
"Banana, ba- ... oh wait, that's not how the saying goes."
You let out a large laugh and nearly choked on your food.
"Something with tomatoes or potatoes," he continued with a wave of his hand as if throwing away the topic. "Well, what do you think? You wanna do it?"
"You just want the chocolate, don't you?"
"No! I would never!" He waved his arms around. "... Well, that too."
"I knew it!" You lifted your fork/chopstick of food into air in triumph. "Just make sure you get my favorite chocolate once White Day rolls around."
"Sure thing!" He gave a thumbs up. "I'm sure I can get enough money by then!"
"You've been using all of it on manga and snacks again, haven't you?"
"What else would I use it on?"
"Okay. Just don't use the money for my chocolate on manga."
"If I did, It would be a great manga and be worth a lot more than some chocolate. Actually, that should be a thing. Instead of getting girls chocolate, get them manga! And we should get manga too. ... So, are we doing it?" he asked when he paused long enough to think.
"I don't know,” you shrugged while taking another bite.
He slammed his hand on the table. "But you said it like you did! I just agreed to get you chocolate next month!"
"I was saying if I agreed. If I agreed then you would have to get me chocolate.” You internally laughed at his response.
Kaminari slumped in his chair. "Okay, but my point is, how long have we been single? And it doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon, so I was thinking why not we experience some of it while we're still in high school?"
"Hmmm," you tapped your finger against your lip. "Well, you have a point. And I guess I got nothing better to do tomorrow."
“So it’s a yes?” his eyes lit up.
“I guess so.”
“Yes!” He jumped up and some heads turned towards him. “I got a—!”
You hastily pulled him back down and got a hold of his ear. He yelped in pain before you shushed him. The attention he had gained was beginning to die down after doing that, much to your relief. You released a small puff of air, grateful that you didn’t feel like you were in a spotlight anymore.
“Kaminari,” you whispered into his ear, an edge present in your voice, “Don’t go announcing it to the world, especially if it’s not an actual date. Do not ruin it for me.”
You let go, and he got out of the awkward position of being pulled half way onto the table. Thankfully, he hadn’t landed in his food when you pulled him down. He settled back in his chair and rubbed his ear.
“Okay! You can count on me!”
Maybe it was a bad idea to suddenly agree when that meant you had to make chocolate for him that night. You already had some chocolate you bought from the store for family and friends. One of those giri chocos was originally going to be his, but now you would have to actually make him honmei choco if you were going to have the whole Valentine's Day experience. You considered skipping on that for a brief second, but you had already agreed to do it. Plus, you weren't sure if you would ever get to do this during high school at this rate. And you wanted to at least have done it once.
You'd have to run to the store to get better quality chocolate, a cute wrap for it, and a heart shaped mold. In order to save time, you went directly to the nearest store after school. It would save time, which you didn't have much of it. You didn't know how long it would take to make them, and you wanted some extra time in case you make a mistake and had to do something over again.
It was more crowded than you thought. You also didn't realize how many stares you would get just for being in your U.A. uniform. Thankfully, everything you needed was there and you made your way to the counter to pay. As you were weaving your way through the people, you thought you saw another student. You did a double take. Uniform. Pink skin. Ashido.
You tried to duck and hide, but it was too late.
"Oh, hey!" She waved you down and ran to you. A bag of purchased goods was hanging from her arm. "What are you doing here? Are you getting last minute giri choco too!"
“I, uh.”
“Hey, isn't that stuff to make chocolate? Wait a second… OMG! Who’s the lucky person!”
You nervously held the items close to you. This was why you didn't want her seeing you. "No one, really. I'm just... making it for the experience." You put a smile onto your face and did your best to make the last half of the sentence sound cheery.
It wasn't technically a lie. You just hoped she bought it. Because if she kept prying and learned it was for Kaminari, you would never hear the end of it.
"Okay. Can I have some when you're done?" She joked and bumped your arm with her elbow.
"Only if I didn't eat it all first." You internally high fived yourself for the quick reply.
"Okay. Well, see you at U.A." She waved before dashing out the door.
"Bye!" You watched her go. When she was out of view, you exhaled a breath you didn't know you were holding.
You stood nervously in the park. You wore a Valentine Day themed outfit you had put together, with the help of some ideas from the internet. It was 5:45 pm, the time you agreed on meeting. You had honestly expected him to be slightly late. Though it did nothing to make your feel less jittery.
There were quite a few people who also had the same idea of going to the park. Some friends playing Frisbee. A family walking by. And some couples. You scanned the area for him, multiple times, but still couldn't see him.
Why were you even so worried? This was your friend. It’s not like it was an actual date with someone you liked. If he forgot or something, you could just chew him out later. Then that 'what if' situation made you sick to your stomach and you forced yourself to stop thinking about it.
"Hey!"
You head turned up within a split second and you saw him. He wore a dark blue button up shirt. This plus his smile and hair... somehow made him look nice. A smile spread on your face, yet your nerves didn't completely calm down just yet.
"Hey!" You greeted back.
"You look nice," he commented.
"You too." You nodded. "So, what were you planning on doing first?"
"I thought we'd walk around here first, then go to this one restaurant. And after that we can wander around shops." he shrugged.
"Okay, sounds nice." You began walking side by side with him.
Your brain tried to sabotage the moment by beginning to make you feel awkward. You did your best to push it away. But were you supposed to be walking in silence? Or talking?
"You wanna hold hands?" He offered.
"Hmm," you joking held your finger to your lip in deep thought. "I think no."
"Oh, come on!" He acted upset, but there was a big grin on his face.
You laughed and he joined in. A few more jokes were thrown back and forth as you passed trees and other people. Though within a seemingly short amount of time, the conversation hit dead end. You pulled on your sleeve and look in any direction but him.
"Okay, this is getting boring,” he said. “Can we go to the restaurant now?”
"Lucky for you, I think we're almost at the end of the park, and I'm hungry."
“Yes!” he cheered. “They always make walking through the park look more fun in the movies.”
“Yeah,” you agreed with a laugh.
Kaminari led you to the place he picked out. Well, more like he tried to go there, then got lost and had to give up on relying on his memory. He made the brilliant move of pulling out his phone, setting the location on his map app, and he following it. But you both realized that he had gotten the point where you going mixed up with your location. This resulted in having to backtrack and ignoring your growling stomach as it took even longer to get there.
Finally, you found it. You entered through door with him. Inside were tables placed around a large circle. The conveyor belt had several plates of food with different types of sushi and other dishes. The chiefs in the middle of the circle conveyor worked hard to keep the food coming. Almost every table was filled.
“Aw, man. We should have gotten here earlier,” Kaminari grabbed your hand. “C’mon.”
You both ran until you spotted a free table and slide in. It took a second to catch your breath after the sudden sprint. Sitting in the chair, you looked around more closely. It was a nice place. There were people chattering, some clanking of plates, and mouth watering food slowly passing by you. You reached up to begin to grab one, but then you stopped yourself.
"Wait, am I paying for myself or where you...?"
"You can have whatever you want. My treat," he replied with a ish eating grin. Probably meant that he thought what he just said was very cool.
You laughed to yourself and picked one and he did the same. It was good. You were pleasantly surprised, though you weren't sure why. Maybe it was because he had only learned of the restaurant while looking up ones online to take you to. And it was only yesterday that you agreed. Then again, you had made honmei choco the other night...
You suddenly remembered something and nearly choked on your sushi roll.
"You okay?" Kaminari said, unfortunately dismissing any hope you had that he didn't notice.
"No, I'm good. I just need to make a phone call. One second." You excused yourself and walked outside while pulling out your phone.
It was an uncomfortable change to suddenly be greeted by the chilly February air. Was it really that cold when you were with Kaminari? You dialed your mom's number and resisted the urge to pace.
As soon as you heard the other end being picked up, you began. "Mom, I need you to get something for me. If you look in the kitchen, somewhere on the counter is where I left a bag of chocolate for Valentine's day. Can you bring that to me?" You had been so busy trying to get ready and be on time, that you had accidentally left the honmei choco you made.
"Uhh, okay. But where are you? It’ll be awfully hard to give it to you if I don’t know where you are."
"In a little bit I should be..." you tried to think of a good point to meet up, "near Takoba Municipal Beach Park. Probably close to that one gazebo. I'll text you that so you don't forget after I hang up."
"Okay. I hope you appreciate this. I really don't feel like going all the way out there to give you something you forgot."
"If I could go back and un-forget it, I would. Thank you. Bye."
With that, the call ended. You took a deep breath to calm your heart, which seemed to think forgetting chocolate was a catastrophic event, and went back inside.
When you caught sight of Kaminari again he was dunking a chunk of seaweed and fish into soy sauce, before shoving it into his already full mouth. He stopped and paused upon seeing you. He chewed and swallowed as quickly as he could and finished by the time you sat back down.
"So, what was that about?" he started it off as a joke, but his voice seemed shaky for whatever reason.
"I just forgot something and asked Mom to go get it for me." Technically wasn't a lie.
"Oh, okay." He began eating more. He started counting the plates and you could see his face pale a tad.
"Is everything alright for you?"
"Huh? I mean, yeah, everything's great." He smiled at you.
You shrugged and focused your gaze on the conveyor belt. A particularly delicious looking morsel. It was clearly more expensive, with a nice layer of tuna in it. You reached out your hand, considering getting it when you saw Kaminari flinch at your action.
You turned to him. "Do I need to pay for my own meal?"
"No, no," he tried to retain the coolness he built up, "I can pay."
You sighed. "No, you are not going broke because of expensive fish."
"But, that's not-"
"What? It's not cool? Denki- oops.” You realized you accidentally used his given name.
His face turned the slightest bit pink, though you hardly even noticed in your own embarrassment. “That’s fine. You can call me Denki. We’ve known each other long enough.”
“Thanks,” you nodded and continued, “Denki, you are my friend," why did the word 'friend' leave a different taste this time 'round? "and I don't want you doing something stupid because you think it makes you look cool."
He struggled to make a comeback and ended up blurting out, "Doing something stupid that makes me look cool defines me."
"Look, let's split the bill between us, that way you pay for some of mine, but you don't spend up the money for the chocolate you promised me."
"Wait, you didn't care about me, you just wanted to make sure you still got chocolate." He faked an offended expression.
You exhaled a laugh. "Yeah, sure. Whatever makes you feel better. As long as you agree."
"Fine."
"But don't purposefully buy more just because I'm offering to pay half."
"Can't make any promises~"
"You little-"
Eventually, you became full enough, or rather reached the maximum to what you were willing to pay. Then you left. You blinked when you stepped out. You hadn’t expected it to become this dark. Kaminari began walking off, probably to some store or the mall, but you grabbed his arm to stop him.
"Is it alright if we stop by the beach?"
His eyes lit up, like the stars in the sky. "Great idea! That'd be much more romantic."
You expected to roll your eyes, but what you found was your face growing warm and your mouth being lost for words. Thankfully, he didn't notice and just started running for the beach, pulling you along. Buildings loomed over you in the dark, until they finally cleared and the beach came into view. The sea seemed to become the night sky. It gently washed over the sand in a rhymic pattern. The sound of it filled your ears and your senses listened. A sense of calmness washed over you.
You both walked up to the gate that separated the beach from the road. Kaminari leaned against the metal gate, resting on his arms. The two of you stared at the view in a comfortable silence.
“Wow, this is nice,” he commented.
“Yeah.” There was a weird feeling, somewhat reminiscent to a flutter or squeeze, in your chest. Something that made the moment seem more magical. You could almost feel this feeling rising and beginning to climb up your throat.
More silence, then a movement caught your attention out the corner of your eye. Your mom was waving to you and held a small bag that slightly reflected in the small amount of light there was.
“One second, I need to go get something,” you let him know and ran to your mom. “Thank you so much.”
“Just don’t make this a habit,” she handed it to you. Then she glanced to where Kaminari was and squinted. “Is that your date? Is that why you were making chocolate?”
“No,” your voice came out more unsure for some reason, “well, I… was just making that for myself. This is just giri choco.”
“Okay.” She shrugged. “Don’t stay out much longer.”
“I won’t.” You quickly ran back. “Hey,” you greeted him.
“Hey. What was that about?”
“Noting important,” you shrugged and leaned on the gate. “Oh, and here.” You held the bag out to him, trying to act cool and nonchalant, but you knew you had a big smirk on your face.
He gasped and snatched it out of your hold. He wrestled with the bag, trying to get it open. Once he succeeded, he looked inside. A big smile spread across his face and he pulled it out. He held a large chocolate heart on a stick, almost like a lollipop. You thought that would be fun to make. Of course, now that he held it, you could see all the tiny imperfections. Like where a small air bubble had been, or how some chocolate had gotten on the stick. But Kaminari didn’t seem to care at all. He stared at it in awe. Like he had just been given something he wanted for years.
“Wow! Wait, did your mom just give this to you? Did you forget?” he looked over to you.
“What, no, I would never…” you laughed nervously. “But I did make it. You better like it, or else,” you joked.
“I’m sure I will! Wow. You made this?”
“Yep. Last night.”
“Thank you!” He took a bite out of it and began happily chewing.
You smiled. Your eyes locked onto the gazebo on the beach. It looked really nice. The thought of you being in it made you want to go even more. Currently there was a couple there, but then they walked out and started going down the beach. Your eyes lit up.
You looked to Kaminari, tugged on his sleeve, and pointed to the now empty location.
He grinned. “I think I know what you’re thinking and I think we should do it too.”
With a couple of small laughs you both hurried down to the beach was fast as you could. The sand made you slow your pace into a walk, but you didn’t mind. The sea air on you felt refreshing, chilling your skin. The moon was beautiful and the water reflected slivers of the moonlight that danced.
"It looks really nice." You smiled.
"Yeah... wanna hold hands?" He offered his free hand to you.
To your surprise, this actually sounded nice. And to your greater surprise, you accepted. Your hand slipped in his perfectly. Almost like it found its home. The second you skin touched, it was like electricity ran through you and jump started your heart. You were about to ask if he was using his quirk, but quickly realized that it didn't feel exactly like electricity. But the strange feeling in your heart continued. You couldn't tell if it felt nice or if you wanted it to go away.
Your feet kept sinking in the sand until you reached the pier and had to get used to walking on concrete again. You made your way to the roof on the end of the pier, hand in hand. You stood by the edge. Staring at the water.
Kaminari took the last bite. “That was delicious.”
“Thanks.”
“So…” he looked around. He put the stick back into the bag and placed it in his pocket. “Wanna dance?”
Instead of your usual joking reply, you felt flustered, but shyly accepted. He pulled out his phone and started some music up. You put your hand in his and the other on his shoulder. He held you by the waist. You tried to regulate your breathing and calm down. The two of you began spinning in time with the music. He twirled you around. You even did that one move you would see in movies. When you’d spin out, like a door opening, while still holding his hand. The he’d pull you back to him. It all felt simple, and fun.
Right as the fourth song was ending, you had an overwhelming urge to ask him something. “Umm,” then you stopped yourself when you realized exactly what it was you actually wanted to ask. But why did it feel like it was rising out of your throat, desperately wanting to be said.
“Yeah?” he looked at you. His yellow eyes made you feel like melting, an effect they never had up until that point.
“I… it was nothing.”
“Really?”
“No.” You cursed yourself for automatically saying the truth.
“Then what is it?” He looked at you more intently.
Your mind was doing somersaults trying to figure out what to do or say. “Date, please,” you blurted out.
“Huh?”
“Well, um.” You really wished you had kept your mouth shut. You stared down and said in the most quiet voice possible, “I think maybe I kinda like you and maybe, kinda, want to go on a real date with you. Maybe? If you’d be fine with that, maybe.”
“Wait,” he stepped back as if in surprise. “You. Want to date… me?”
Your face was burning to the point you wanted to stick into the water like an ostrich. “Yes?”
He threw his arms in the air and jumped around. “Yes! I got an actual date! I’m finally dating someone! They said I couldn’t do it!”
“You don’t need to announce it to the whole world.” You laughed.
“Well, you are m—”
“I swear, if you say finish with ‘my world’ I will knock you over the head.”
He let out a big laugh. “Why? You don’t want to be my world?”
His laughter was contagious. “No, it’s cheesy, and this literally just happened a minute ago.”
You both started to walk back, and hardly even noticed when your hands slipped perfectly into one another.

Since it's been a while since I prompted you, 38/51 for Traffic Light Trio and Spicynoodleshipping?
It’s also been a while since you... sent this... I am getting through my prompts slowly but surely! Hopefully the wait was worth it, it has been a while since I have written TLT or SpicyNoodles alone so this was really enjoyable! I apparently missed this more than I realized as this is quite long! (There are references to a past fill as well, but this can be read stand alone.)
If you move from that spot, so help me, I will tie you down/Can you two save the kissing for later?
“For the love of- stop trying to get up Noodle-Brain!” Red Son snapped, albeit more with exasperated worry than anger this time. “You’re only going to make it worse!”
“No, really, I’m fine!” Xiaotian insisted, moving to once again attempt to stand.
He was not fine and his face soon came into contact with an impromptu date with Red Son’s open palm, catching him before he landed on the floor instead. Normally Xiaotian would have pulled his face back with a muttered "sorry" or "thanks" or "wow Red that was shockingly nice of you".
Instead he groaned and allowed himself to just kind of... hang there, his weight being held by that palm that probably felt oddly normal temperatured to him at the moment. Understandable given that his face was flushed red and that even to Red's naturally warmer body temperature touch he felt overheated in fever.
This was not quite the sight Red Son had expected to see when he had ventured out into the city on his own, just wanting to have some kind of time away from his work to gather his thoughts about... well, a lot of things. Ever since the entire fiasco with the Lunar New Year festival his mind had been wandering back toward when he worked with Xiaotian and Xiaojiao and things that happened afterwards.
He still had the phone he had accidentally kept from the green dragon and they had talked a few times. More than a few times. ... ok, maybe they had been texting near daily and had calls every other night and maybe he started watching her streams out of curiosity, and maybe he had been added to a group chat with the Noodle Boy and started to text him too, but he didn't really have anyone else to talk to outside of the his parents and Bull Clones! They were still enemies, just friendly ones! Frenemies! And it had been... nice. To talk to someone who seemed interested in what he wanted to say. And maybe understood him a little. Maybe possibly... didn't actually dislike him as much as he had believed initially.
... and maybe Red Son was deluding himself when he said he didn't actually like either of them, but that was neither here nor there! His thoughts were getting away from him!
The point was thus- he'd gone into the city for a break with the intention of heading to his private apartment he had for such occasions, happened upon one Noodle Boy laying face down on the seat of his (otherwise empty and clearly not being used for work that day) delivery vehicle looking absolutely miserable and burning up, and against his better judgment he took him back to said apartment. That was shockingly easy considering Xiaotian was pretty much passed out due to the high fever combined with his moving around and the fact Red Son could lift the vehicle himself if he wanted to (he didn't, he just took the keys with them so no one would make off with it).
And so that was how Red Son found himself in this predicament. In his apartment with the AC on just enough to be slightly uncomfortable, one sick Monkie Kid doing his best to remove himself from his couch with a cold compress on his forehead while insisting he was fine when he clearly was not, debating on whether or not he should have taken this dumbass to the hospital instead. If only because he was being frustrating to keep still.
"You are most clearly not 'fine', now lay back down," Red Son said with a warning growl, pushing his rival (gently, he wouldn't be so callous as to kick someone while they were down like this) back into the mound of pillows he had laid out for him. He never had visitors so he may as well make the best of this and pull out what he had in storage so they could be used for once. "If you move from that spot, so help me, I will tie you down."
"... ok," Xiaotian finally acquiesced, closing his eyes and laying back into the plush around him and looking even worse than he had before he had been trying to convince the other he was fine. (Though had he not looked clearly sick the sight would have been almost cute to-NO! Red was not going to think that.)
Red Son didn't know what precisely was wrong with him, though based on his symptoms and reactions it was likely a basic but now out of control flu (regardless, he knew he himself was in little to no danger of most human illnesses) and helping him recuperate here (because no one except Red Son was allowed to defeat the Monkie Kid, not even an illness!) was looking like a more reasonable idea now. But he couldn't help but wonder how had the other man allowed himself to get this bad. Why had he even gone outside in his state? He wasn't working, his lack of normal uniform or delivery orders was evidence enough of that, so it wasn't as if he had been forced to go out by his boss. Was he just too stubborn? Did he think he would be ok for a few minutes and not realize he was this ill? The delivery boy was of no help in that regard, brushing off every attempt from the fire demon to learn the answers to those questions. He wasn't delirious, he just refused to answer!
So instead of trying to push again Red Son sighed and stood up. When Xiaotian opened his eyes to look at him in curiosity he frowned at the deep dark bags under them (had he ever been sleeping?) and the dull sheen they seemed to have before he held his hand up in a "stop" motion.
"You stay right there. I meant that threat. I am going to be back in 10 minutes. Do not test me..." Red stood, lifting both his arms for a moment before giving the other another glance. "And don't, uh... die, I guess."
And then Red was gone in a wave of his arms and a flash of fire.
~
He landed at the entrance to a nearby convenience store, not somewhere one would normally think he would frequent but convenience was convenience. And they had very good coffee to grab when he ran out in his apartment. Yes, he was a Villain with a capital V and could just torment the staff for free goods... but he knew that if he did that long enough the stores would start causing him trouble or close down and that would negate the convenience.
No, it wasn't because the first cashier that greeted him was willing to pay for his goods believing he had forgotten his wallet and thus felt guilty for his first attempt at doing so. And he would deny that until the day he died.
That wasn't his goal for the day, however. Red Son may not get ill the way humans did, but it felt useful to him to know how how to treat the more common ailments in the event his family may be forced to work with one. So he grabbed a basket and made a quick beeline straight for the nearest aisle with medicine.
In even less than the 10 minutes he cited he had a basket filled with flu medicine, more cold compresses, soup broth, and much more. Yes, all of this was absolutely necessary. He didn't care that much about his nemesis, he just wouldn't let an illness make him weak. Nope. That was the only reason. Nothing else. He totally wasn't caring for someone he considered a friend, he didn't have friends, not even Xiaojiao was a-
"Red?"
Crap.
"What are you doing standing in line at a convenience store?" Xiaojiao asked, and as Red turned back to her he saw that she had... some very similar items in her own basket, plus some comics. At his eyes widened in realization she looked down at his own basket and sighed. "... either this is a very interesting coincidence or Xiaotian did something he shouldn't have."
~
Red entered his apartment through the door, the noise rousing the apparently lightly sleeping man on his couch.
"Red? You're back alrea-!?" Xiaotian snapped his mouth shut as he turned his head and opened his eyes to see the wide smiling face of a, clearly to someone who knew her well, angry Xiaojiao. "... I'm in trouble aren't I?"
"Oh you have no idea," she replied lightly, setting down the snacks and books and other assorted items she had purchased while Red made his way into the kitchen with his purchases. "I told you I would be at your apartment with stuff after I finished covering your shift for you, so would you like to explain why Red Son found you nearly passed out in your tuk-tuk half way to the nearest store?"
Though her words were sharp and snappy, it was clear to the listening Red that they were so in genuine concern for her friend. There was a mutter from Xiaotian and a questioning sound from Xiaojiao before the man cleared his throat and repeated himself.
"You already helped me out... I just wanted to try to get that stuff myself so you wouldn't have to do more. I was feeling pretty ok until I drove for a while..."
Ah. So that explained it. Xiaotian had just been going out for medication himself. Not the best idea with a fever of his magnitude, but understandable if he believed he could handle something that simple. Red had begun to wonder if he had been trying to head to Flower Fruit Mountain with bow evasive he was being, but this was a much less disastrous answer.
"Xiaotian, you're my best friend," he heard Xiaojiao say in a much softer tone, and there was the sound of the shuffling on the couch. "I wanted to help you, it didn't matter to me how much it was. I've helped you get to Flower Fruit Mountain and kick demon ass! A delivery shift or two and a convenience store run is something I'd do in a heartbeat. Now open your mouth, I grabbed a thermometer so we can see how bad off you actually are."
There was an agreeable sound and a chuckle, then silence as Red continued what he had been doing. Taking out a dose of medication and preparing something for Xiaotian to eat. Or, rather, drink along side the tea he was also preparing for himself and Xiaojiao. It was little more than chunks of tofu and soup broth with some mild flavoring, something simple and easy to make and eat while sick and-
Red Son held his face in his hands and groaned softly as he waited for the broth to warm. What was he doing? His greatest enemies were in his living room, one sick with fever, and he was preparing medicine and food for him. Frenemies? Only he could defeat them? Is that really what he was telling himself to justify his actions? That they were friend-enemies and they were his to beat?
That was a bold faced lie and he knew it. Had known it for a while. Maybe since he first called Xiaojiao just to speak with someone who would listen to him. Maybe since he first watched her stream in curiosity. Certainly, though, since he accepted being added to the group text she had named "Traffic Light Trio" (really? What kind of name that that?). He would have never done that had he not considered them his friends, he knew that deep down. He just didn't want to admit it (and he super did not want to admit that he maybe felt his own face warm up when they complimented him or that he had butterflies in his stomach the off times they called him by nicknames).
As he turned off the now lightly boiling broth and set it to the side to cool, Red Son began to admit to himself that maybe he was just as much of a dumbass as the Noodle Boy. It seemed that out of the three of them Xiaojiao had firm hold on the only available brain cells when it came to interpersonal relationships.
But that train of thought was not helpful at the moment, so he pushed it down (deeeeeeep down) as he gathered everything up and made his way to the couch again.
The sight that greeted him gave him pause Xiaojiao sitting on the arm of the couch and running a hairbrush through Xiaotian's tangled hair, Xiaotian looking slightly better thanks to the compress against his forehead and smiling softly against the pillows.
There were those butterflies. Oh. Red Son had it bad.
"So?" He asked, drawing their attention to himself as he sat everything on the nearby table. "How bad is it?"
"Not enough to take him to a doctor yet," Xiaojiao answered with a chuckle as she hopped down. "Though I think what you did before helped with that."
Red flushed a bit himself in response, grumbling under his breathe as he shoved the medicine and a cup of water into Xiaotian's hands. "WELL. Take this and. Maybe it’ll stay that way!" He attempted to sound as snappy as normal but the looks on both his guests faces told him he failed miserably in that regard.
"Thanks, Red," Xiaotian said with an earnest smile, and the butterflies were back and Red Son couldn't help the slight sparking of his hair in response.
"Don't mention it. Ever." He grumbled a bit, taking the cup before sighing and helping Xiaotian sit up straighter. "You shouldn't eat half laying down." He maneuvered the pillows to make a little wall between Xiaotian and a space next to the arm of the couch. A space he quickly occupied himself before handing him the bowl of broth over his shoulder. "So you don't have to move more."
The other two looked at each other with surprise on their faces before Xiaojiao smiled and sat on the other arm as they grew silent. Xiaotian eating, Xiaojiao playing on her phone, and Red... well. He tried to look like he was doing something on "his" phone, the one he took from Xiaojiao and replaced the old case with a showy flame covered one. But in reality he was just sitting there staring into space thinking "holy crap this is happening what have I done what happens next oh crap".
"Hey Red?"
"YES!?" He asked far too loud and quick with a squeak in his voice as his hair flared at Xiaotian's words, clearing his throat before repeating himself in a much more appropriate tone (only to earn a giggle from Xiaojiao).
He felt the other man lean back against him, and before he could even begin to fight his flush on his face he heard him chuckle as well. "I appreciate your help."
"L-like I said... don't mention it..."
Xiaotian chuckled again in reply and sighed, leaning completely against Red Son and as he looked over and down he saw his relaxed face and flushed deeper and... it felt nice.
He wondered why he ever pushed down his feelings before.
Xiaojiao grabbed the dishes with a knowing smirk, heading into the kitchen with a few parting words.
"Can you two save the kissing for later? Maybe when Xiaotian isn't sick?"
Both men flushed as deep as they could and sputtered out denials in response, and if that wasn't an indication that Xiaotian maybe felt similarly to Red as Red did to him...
