In regards to ep 5, I've seen the "lol I can excuse murder but I draw the line at domestic violence" posts making fun of people who are upset and I would just like to say
We go into something like vampire books (or shows) knowing that there will be vampires. Those vampires are fairytale monsters killing NPCs for food. There are no vampires in the real world. No one is being murdered by having their blood sucked out by Dracula.
You know what IS real? Domestic violence situations very similar to the ones portrayed, sans the flying. Children hiding while their parent is beaten half to death. Abuse victims with slit throats being dragged through their own blood by a partner. Angry men pushing their partner from heights (just not flying). Sexual assaults within a marriage (because that's what non-con blood drinking between vampires is, according to Anne Rice).
We all know vampires are monsters, magical serial killers removed from reality in nearly every way. What impacts our perception of a character like Lestat is when the fantasy monster becomes a little too real. That line has been crossed a couple times in the books and it's hated then just like ep 5 is hated by fans right now.
There IS a difference and it's the difference between ghost stories and true crime.
