I'm also an anti of acotar (and pro nesta free my girl) AND a fan of All Souls so I can assure you that while the main couple does have a guy who's overprotective and growly and vampire family dynamics unfortunate mostly run through the patriarchy and it's never dismantled, it is a much better series overall. The main couple actually respect each other after a rocky start and the guy gets called out for shit way more than rhys ever does. Unlike acotar it doesn't read like the main character isn't slipping into a toxic relationship by being brainwashed but more like she's just as unhinged as he is but isn't aware of it. They're adults and (for the most part) they act like it. There's still stuff i complain about and am critical of but I like it a lot more than I've ever liked acotar.
They're very long books but unlike acotar it isn't mostly just filler or whatever to get to the plot, it's actually plot and/or worldbuilding. They do drag on a bit though but at least it's worth it. And if the books scare you there's a TV series that I'd say is pretty accurate, minus a few things, and much shorter! And if nothing else, there weren't any female characters who were so abused and mistreated simply because they were kinda mean to the main characters that it makes my physically angry. No Nesta characters in this series! So that's always a win.
NESTA DESERVES BETTER WRITING AND A BETTER SERIES

Unhinged you say? Unhinged female character? Unhinged female characters my beloveds! Yes! Yes to unhinged women!
Tumblr media
(That is both an example of one of my Unhinged Woman Blorbos and a reaction to the idea of Unhinged Woman Blorbos.)
I don't know why I'm intimidated, honestly. I love big books and read them all the time. I think it might simply be that it's a high fantasy world I'm unfamiliar with so I'll need to learn its rules. BUT I like when books have good world-building too, so yes.
I think I'll pick it up when I feel like it and then immediately adore it. Once I'm in the right mindset, it'll be perfect.
