Can you explain your reasons for not liking Scaramouche's redemption? I'm also not a huge fan of how he was written.
Of course!
One of my biggest reasons is it comes off to me as if Genshin is too scared to make characters who are blatantly evil and against the traveler playable
Which to me…honestly I don’t understand their mentality with it
IMO I think it’s perfectly fine to have characters who are evil and/or against the traveler to be playable! It brings a contrast, a flavor of sorts to the playable cast of characters
I was hesitant at first to say Genshin was too scared to make morally questionable/wrong characters playable, but considering La Signora’s dead, Ei’s EGREGIOUS redemption arc, and Scara’s redemption arc, I’m seeing a very blatant trend here, one I’m not a fan of
Now I know Arlecchino got released and is playable, I, however, stopped playing the game awhile back, I honestly don’t even feel like returning to it because all the content is wearing me out, along with the writing decisions and how I personally think the writing is just getting extremely convoluted, so I can’t really speak on Arlecchino’s matter because honestly I don’t know if her personality was watered down or not
My biggest issue is I feel like the redemption arc not only butchers what could’ve been a great character, I remember the days of when Scaramouche was just an asshole and that’s all he was, just an evil person, and not when he was some uwu little guy who does nothing wrong, but the arc also honestly ignores all the things Scaramouche has done and would rather pin the blame on other characters Like traveler why on Earth are you teaming up with the guy who killed Teppei??? You know, the NPC that died in the Inazuma arc, the NPC who’s death enraged the traveler so much that the traveler just ran headfirst into a dangerous situation without a second thoug-Ohhhhh right his death was just for shock value and doesn’t really hold any weight on the traveler! Right!
Scaramouche was also responsible for getting La Signora killed, however this is never addressed and just swept under the rug It’s writing decisions like that that just makes me so frustrated
I think it would’ve been fun if Scaramouche was just some blatantly evil guy, not every character needs some sob story, a whole plot point where they just whine and whine, and then some half-baked redemption arc where now he’s completely woobified and just an entirely diff character, minus the sass
Like he’s just sassy now, he’s not even mean anymore 💀
It disappoints me because there was so much potential to him and I would’ve been perfectly fine with him just being plain evil, I’m at that point where Dottore, a character who is just straight up evil, has no reason behind it, has no remorse for his actions, is a breath of fresh air and the only harbinger I enjoy because of that I do hope Pantalone also just ends up being a blatantly evil character, albeit not as extra as Dottore, and it would be fun if he monologued like Bedman from Guilty Gear XRD (I might even draw him to some of the monologues LOL)
But anyway yeah, just to sum everything all up in short bullet points
-Characters doing heinous things and then turning around, spewing a sob story, and becoming completely watered down woobified versions of themselves is overdone and tired in Genshin
-Scaramouche would’ve been great if he just stayed as an evil character, not every character needs to be morally in the right or on the traveler’s side, let the traveler have more significant enemies instead of nameless NPC #928291 ISTG 😭
-Scaramouche’s redemption was not earned
I know people are going to disagree with me, that’s fine, just make sure to keep it civil if/when interacting with my post
Anyways thanks for the ask! I can also do a post on Ei’s botched arc if needed or anything of the sorts, I like ranting about this stuff!

idk if this is controversial but speaking of Reid girls n all that, i hate how forgotten Morgan gets since everyone seems to favour Reid. writing a mlm fic? it’s centred around Reid and Morgan is just sorta there, or maybe comforts Reid. need just one queer character? it’s Reid. a trans masc hc? it’s Reid again. and most of all,,, people making any kind of hurt/comfort or angst or whatever to do with csa… and they choose Reid. they make a head canon that he experienced csa, when Morgan literally canonically did, and everyone ignores that he did. and it’s fine to have a favourite character and all that, but it’s… disproportionately skewed in favour of the skinny white boy, yk? it feels so off to me. and also how people seem to totally forget about Morgan’s experiences. idk
aldhskdh it’s definitely controversial but youre so so right for it?? i feel like a lotta people just… ignore morgan. it wouldnt feel as purposeful or malignant if they didnt give the exact things morgan deals with to reid?? the same thing kinda happens w hotch, where people obsess over reid so much that it overshadows the places where they’re similar (like hotch being a nerd or autistic hotch or transmasc hotch) but even then, at least he’s got the hotchgirls to balance it out. where are the morgangirls?? where are they??
it seems like such a waste that morgan gets sidelined as the himbo jock football guy when the writers went out of their way to let us know that’s not who he is?? it’s the one time i think the writers actually did good in comparison to the fandom: they made him one of the smartest, most emotionally open characters. he’s so so caring. and reid is smart, sure, but even morgan has his strengths. he’s a better chess player than reid (something i wish we couldve seen more of), which i think no one ever fucking mentions. morgan seems like an afterthought at most in cm fics, with moreid, hotchgan, and morcia. he’s just.. underappreciated in general in comparison to his white counterparts.
as far as the trans masc hc… ok.. this one might get me into trouble lol but it feels so… uninteresting? he’s “gnc” bc he has long hair ig. i dont wanna say too much more on that bc morgan/hotch seem very comfortable in their gender identity, and it’s probably easier for questioning people to identify with the generally-insecure reid. which is like.. fine ig but it feels? belittling almost? infantilizing/woobifying trans men? idk
this shit is always kinda hard to talk about bc yeah there’s nothing inherently wrong for csa reid hcs or trans reid hcs or autistic reid hcs or whatever, but it feels particularly disingenuous when you have morgan right there who can easily have as many if not more of those popular hcs applied to him. but sure yeah lets just ignore him as the dumb jock lol. lets make him a prop for other characters. lets cast aside his characterization to make reid more interesting. it’s definitely a trend in fandom to hype up the skinny white boy, so i cant reeally blame reidgirls for living up to the stereotype, but it feels like they actively ignore morgan. it just sucks bc morgan js such a fun character

A slightly salty take on North and fandom
Disclaimer: Nothing in this post is meant as an attack on anyone. Fandom is subjective and you have the right to interpret media, form your own conclusions, and create whatever you want. These are my opinions about what I’ve seen, as well as my experiences in previous fandoms and the patterns I’ve seen play out over and over again. It’s okay to disagree with me, and it’s okay to have a respectful discussion in reblogs/comments! Just keep it civil. That out of the way…
North. She’s polarizing character in DBH; she tends to be loved or hated, and I’ll admit it: I didn’t like her at first either. I wanted to, but as I played through my first time I just couldn’t get past one of her traits in particular, which was that she was so convinced she was right; she blamed Markus for every mistake, refused to adapt her tactics or consider other methods, and seemed more driven by vengeance than anything else. So as much as I wanted to enjoy her character, I found her to be a poorly written “strong female character” archetype that fell flat in execution, as most characters of that type do.
Honestly, I think this is the reason most people who dislike North dislike her, at least consciously. They genuinely think she’s a terribly written character, and they’re not necessarily wrong. One playthrough on a standard route, with no extrapolation or extra consideration, combined with a lot of people getting the awkwardly forced romance (I actually avoided this, completely unknowingly, on my first playthrough) leads to a dislike of this character. That’s understandable! I would expect this from people who played the game once. But that’s where the problem comes in, for me.
People active in a fandom usually haven’t consumed the media they’re into just once. They usually don’t engage in surface-level interpretation, and they usually don’t lack context. But I find it hard to believe that so many of the opinions and interpretations regarding North could possibly come from people who have approached her character with an open mind and additional information, because just one major path divergence shows a completely different side to North’s character.
I’m talking, of course, about North’s leader route. When we see her in Markus’ role, leading instead of advising, her true motives come out: she loves her people and is willing to fight for them. She isn’t interested in playing nice with her oppressors, and why should she? There’s a whole discussion here about how oppressed people are judged for how nicely they fight for the rights they should already have, where there’s a ‘good’ way of protesting and a ‘bad’ way of doing it (which is, ironically and showing how tone-deaf Cage can be, supported in the narrative of DBH as well), but I won’t go into that in depth; other people have posted really good takes on this already. I’ll just mention it here and there where relevant.
Once of those relevant places is that, as I said, in North’s leader route she isn’t interested in peaceful protesting. And you know what? When I played this game the first time and had Markus, I had been peaceful up until Night of Soul, which is where North would be making her first major decision as a leader if you don’t have Markus. Yet when it came down to it I made the same decision with Markus that North makes on her own, because you know, as a Jewish woman, I wasn’t super interested in peacefully protesting at the gates of camps that were currently killing people. Playing nice hadn’t worked, and it was time to fight.
So maybe I’m in a different position that some others when it comes to interpreting North’s choices, and as I saw that she made the same choice that I did when playing Markus, I’m just… Not impressed that the fandom tendency to criticize this choice as warmongering, unreasonable, and a ‘betrayal’ of Markus’ peaceful actions (always assuming that Markus had been completely peaceful before, which is the way the story pushes on you, but certainly isn’t a given.) As far as I’m concerned, North is taking the action needed to save her people who are in danger right that instant, and humans don’t deserve a nice civil protest (and if I were in her position with Markus alive, I would be furious that he wanted to just sit and talk while people were dying.) They need to be stopped, and she’s going to stop them.
But it wasn’t just her choice in the church that brought me around to North’s side during her leader route, it was her behavior during Crossroads. Specifically, it was her behavior toward Connor, and how it contrasted with some of her actions earlier. So, going back a bit to Spare Parts, where the Jericrew goes on a mission to steal parts from the Cyberlife warehouses at the docks, and you run into John. North votes against taking him with them, citing that they can’t trust him and it’s too dangerous. Moving on a little, to Stratford Tower, if (or, more likely, ‘when’ since it’s pretty difficult to avoid) Simon is injured, North suggests shooting him. These are pretty harsh marks against her, because they seem needlessly ruthless, but are they really?
With John, the answer is maybe yes. But think about it from her perspective; they’ve never seen the ability Markus used, in turning an android deviant. So as far as North is concerned, John was a threat to them about two minutes earlier, and now wants to go with them? With no traumatic catalyst or trusted android vouching for and giving him the key to Jericho? To North John is a potential threat, a potential danger, and she has no reason to trust him. But as the story goes on, North never makes another objection to an android joining them in this way, because she knows they’re truly deviant. As soon as an android is deviant, they’re one of her people.
With Simon, the answer is probably no, because North is exactly right; if Simon lives, and Connor finds him, Connor finds Jericho. It’s that simple, and it’s not a rare series of events. North might be a little fast to jump on the option, because there’s a genuine argument to be made that it isn’t worth killing someone just because there’s a chance that something (even something very serious) might go wrong, but she clearly isn’t choosing this option because she wants it; she’s choosing this option because she thinks it’s the most guaranteed way to protect her people. It’s a difficult, ruthless decision to make, but it isn’t one made out of malice.
(It’s also worth noting that Simon suggests leaving North when she’s in danger in Crossroads, when the only people that would be at risk from saving her were Markus and Connor, and this happens whether or not North suggested killing Simon one the rooftop. Yet this choice is almost never criticized, because it comes from Simon, and I’ll get into that later.)
But with those particular attitudes from North out of the way, it’s interesting to see how she reacts to Connor in her leader route. North instantly shows concern for him, never blames him for the attack on Jericho, and—like Markus—tries to prevent him from going on his suicide mission to Cyberlife Tower. She’s kind and understanding, and it’s clear that she accepts Connor immediately as one of her people.
This is a place where I have some trouble with fandom interpretations of North and Connor’s relationship, specifically in terms of North being angry, cold, or extremely suspicious of Connor (a little suspicion, especially in a more ‘good end’ route where she has less direct interaction with Connor during the revolution, is reasonable; I’m talking about outright refusal to even consider accepting him.) It bothers me for two specific, and somewhat different reasons.
One is that it directly contradicts a theme of North’s history, which is that deviant androids are not their pasts. They’re not what they were before they woke up. The idea of North holding someone’s past, before they turned deviant, against them is just… I can’t imagine it. I can imagine her suspicion, as I mentioned before, until she's very sure Connor is truly deviant, but that seems very apparent to her right away in any route (I find it hard to believe she’d think he was faking deviancy after delivering the army to Markus.) Some concern or suspicion after finding out about the attempted hijacking makes sense, but the way I see it portrayed in fic is often jarring; it seems completely out of character for her to blame Connor for something like that, as opposed to being angry on his behalf, because North wants androids to be free (and, more deeply, she’s experience being used for something she never wanted.) She wants androids to have the chance to live, to become their own people, and to leave their pasts behind them. Why would she blame Connor for what he was made to do, whether before he was deviant or when Amanda tried to take control of him? It goes against everything North stands for, and that leads me to my second reason:
I think people choose this interpretation because it makes North a villain. Maybe it’s not an active conscious decision to do this (and in fact I doubt it usually is), but it reminds me very painfully of the trend in fandom of villainizing a character—especially a female character—in order to woobify a male character (and, often, get the female character out of the way of a ship) and I can’t help but see that here. It seems like a cheap, easy way to excuse other characters turning against North for her behavior, and therefore getting her out of the way as well as causing drama and conflict for the characters the writer really wants to focus on.
And that seems like a good segue into the big topic that people are gonna get mad about being called out on: misogyny. And even more specifically, misogyny when it comes to shipping.
I’m just gonna state this super clearly at the forefront: I have no problem with shipping whoever you want, whyever you want. I’m not personally into most ships for various reasons, but I do have some favorites (most of which other people aren’t into) and shipping is fun! Not everyone agrees on shipping, and that’s okay; not everyone has to like what you like, we can all still exist in harmony.
But that isn’t to say that people don’t engage in, for lack of a better word, ‘problematic’ behavior in their ships. As opposed to just going ‘hey, I like this, I’m gonna do it’, way too many people become obsessed with justifying their ship (and I think this comes from an underlying desire to ‘prove’ it’s canon or based in canon, as a way of making it seem more legitimate, which is a whole other topic I could rant about.) In the process of these justifications, and then often as a part of the fixation or obsession that some people develop about their ships/characters in their ships, any character or ship that ‘threatens’ someone’s favorite is a target that must be destroyed. And, in what I would say is arguably the vast majority of times, that threatening character is a canon female love interest.
Open bashing has (with good reason) gone out of fashion in fandom, so the way to get characters ‘out of the way‘ is to argue an unlikeable interpretation of them. I feel like this is what happens a lot of the time with North, and with the poor writing and flat portrayal of her character in the ‘good end’ route, it’s very easy for people to take the worst of her personality, say it’s canon, and then get rid of her. This is usually a bit side-eye worthy when it happens in any fandom, but it’s extra ridiculous in DBH for one very distinct reason:
North doesn’t have to be a love interest. As I mentioned before, when I first played through I never got the ‘lovers’ scene, because North said way back when Markus first met her that she didn’t want to talk about her past and so in the scene on the roof I just didn’t ask her (and I could write another whole discussion about how no means no and pressuring someone to tell you their past is NOT how to get a romantic option with them, but that’s an issue with another time.) The rest of the game progressed completely as normal, with the only changes being a lack of kissing options in a few later scenes. There’s no reason why fic writers can’t just choose this option for their fic’s canon, and move on.
And yet I can’t tell you how many times North is an obstacle that has to be overcome in order to get Markus with Simon or Connor (because let’s be real, North, Simon, and Connor are the only major ships for Markus even though Josh is RIGHT THERE, but again that’s another topic for another time.) It’s completely unnecessary, and yet there it is: North is this unreasonable, horrible person who is terrible to [insert love interest here] and Markus has to overcome this internal struggle to break free and be with [whoever] and truly be happy.
It’s such nonsense. It’s using this ‘undesirable’ female character as a source of drama and angst for this poor sad male character to have to deal with, as opposed to taking even a moment to treat the female character as a person who might have motivations, experiences, and emotions, and I’ve seen this over and over and over in every single fandom I’ve ever been in. This isn’t a North-specific thing, it’s a female character thing, and honestly if Kara’s storyline weren’t so separate from the fandom favorite shipping characters then I think the same thing would happen to her (as opposed to her existence just being entirely ignored.) This is such a pattern in fandom that I find it very difficult to believe this is a special case where it’s somehow legitimate.
One of those reasons is that the ‘justifications’ for disliking North tend to be complete double standards between North and whatever love interest the writer is going for, whether that’s Simon or Connor. With Connor, it’s extremely obvious; almost all of North’s negative traits are traits he has to some extent as well (ruthlessness, solving problems through violence, stubbornness,) but those traits are not only not usually treated negatively in Connor (and instead are depicted as justified and necessary in context, which I’m not saying they aren’t, but that it’s unfair to say that about him and not her) but often erased entirely, leading to the obnoxiously delicate, wilting flower version of Connor that shows up in so much fic. But again, an issue for another time.
For Simon, it’s less obvious because North and Simon are quite different, but not in opposite ways; North and Josh are opposites in many respects, but Simon is, in a sense, perpendicular to the line North and Josh are at opposite ends of. Simon doesn’t have particularly strong opinions about anything, just going with the flow and being supportive; his strongest opinions are about being cautious and not taking risks. Except, of course, for that scene I mentioned before, where he outright says they should just leave North to die. For such an overall bland character, that needlessly harsh moment stands out to me and I find it kind of amazing how it’s just completely ignored, often while holding it against North that she suggested shooting Simon on the roof.
So I guess the whole point of this rant is that I wish people would think more critically about North as a character, rather than a flat archetype, especially in the context of shipping. It’s cringey and painful to see blatant flanderizing of her character for the sole purpose of being ‘able’ to ship other characters together, whether to use her as an antagonist or just to get her out of the way, when it’s completely unnecessary to begin with. It’s also very obvious where someone’s priorities and biases lie when they’re happy to write North off but then obsess over other poorly written, bland, or even outright purposefully antagonistic characters that they deem somehow to have more potential and be more worthy of attention and character development.
Overall, there’s no requirement to like a character. It’s totally fine not to like a character. But double standards and needless demonizing of a character go far beyond not liking them, and it’s important to stop and think about why it might be happening. Is it always misogyny with North? No, I don’t think so, there are definitely people who don’t like her for her traits and that’s fine. But I think it’s very telling when someone who claims to dislike North for her personality and behavior then spends time in fan works purposefully making her a villain for the benefit of drama in their pet ship. It’s even more telling when someone who claims to dislike North for her personality and behavior, yet they celebrate the potential of characters that are canonically far worse (but who just so happen to be attractive men.) And, unfortunately, both of those situations coincide quite often with vocally disliking North, and there are only so many ways to interpret such a correlation.

firstly I’m not trying to talk about Elton’s real life relationship with John here but mostly the perspective the movie gave that led the fandom to outright hate John but like yeah literally everyone bashes and hates on John Reid and obviously there are reasons why they would but everyone is so quick to think Elton is the victim (and it is kinda depicted that way in the movie for a more dramatic effect esp after John hits him) but like Elton even admits he was such an asshole to people and (1/2)
and even if it wasn’t during their relationship he was still aggressive and just plain mean to people and obviously he was suffering from addiction and all of that clearly and the issues with his parents and all but I feel like as a fandom everyone is so quick to stick the blame on others that aren’t Elton when he isn’t innocent at all himself like all of the things that he did can be explained through all of the things he went through but they aren’t excuses and no one seems to get that???
YES YOU SAID IT PERFECTLY and I just hate this trend of woobifying?? babying??? infantilising???? Elton because everyone who does that just misses the point of the movie SO fucking hard, like literally the main theme of rocketman is growth and that we're all human and noone is perfect, it shows elton's every flaw and the way he acted (he LITERALLY says, in the movie, that he acted like a cunt for years), and people just brush that off and say shit like "Wow everything would've been perfect if it wasn't for J*hn" no??? Just,,,, ?????? I can't even properly express what I think but like The entire point of rocketman is to show that noone is perfect and to show all the mistakes and bad circumstances that led Elton into his downward spiral, some of which were his own but that's okay because we're all human and we all make mistakes and noone is perfect

@kylerobert reagiu à tua publicação “this whole trend of ‘every hargreeves sibling is lgbt+, except for...”
Why do people hate Luther?
because they have no taste or the ability of critical thinking, probably.
in all seriousness, it probably has to do with the fact that he opposed vanya, someone the fandom has taken under their wing and woobified to hell and back. meaning they don’t see her as being capable of doing any wrong, and the wrong that she does do, they blame on her abuse/trauma. this is by no means an attack on vanya herself, i love her, but we all have to admit the fandom’s attitude towards her is definitely biased. which would be okay if they left luther out of it.
there’s also the fact that luther doesn’t react to his own abuse and trauma in a way the fandom deems as acceptable. luther doesn’t really perceive said trauma and abuse as trauma and abuse (so the fandom doesn’t either pretty much). he still looks up to reginald, and he was his favourite (mostly because he was the most loyal to him). he just accepts what reginald did to him and believes that what he did, he did out of care (probably because it hurts too much to believe otherwise). since he was reginald’s fave, people don’t really think he went through the same kind of abuse as the other siblings?? like he didn’t share the same expectations? the difference was that luther just accepted it, unlike the others. but being favoured by regishit had to have added a whole other layer to his trauma imho.
sidenote, but i honestly find it absolutely heartbreaking that even after finding out that reginald didn’t read a single one of his reports, luther still tries to believe in him. like the way he keeps bringing up the moon regarding the apocalypse (something that people love to make fun of), which to me just seems like he’s trying to find a justification for his time there, like he’s desperate to make sure it wasn’t in vain, and reginald really didn’t care so little that he send him to live in isolation for 4 years for nothing.

just going to write a little think piece on why i am associated with garon and associate with garon so much over the years mostly for the curious
it’s a bit long so feel free to ignore if you don’t have the patience or don’t particularly care i won’t blame you for it really
So to start at the beginning. Back when Garon was first ever seen and we got our first impressions of him and Fates, my entire internet persona at the time was basically just jokes and memes. Fairly straightforward. Now one meme that went around was Mikoto being an Emmeryn figure and the worry of her dying so I took Garon and used the exact same words to make an ironic meme. Finding various opportunities to call Garon’s virtues. See at the time and currently, woobifying and defending and waifuing anime villains, especially conventionally attractive anime men villains, was all the rage. Garon is not conventionally attractive, he’s old, sunken eyes, big fuck off beard, receding medieval hair, grumpy and a bit portly. He’s a fairly cartoonishly evil character on a surface level and many levels and while he has the hints of depth (being an empty possesed vessel corrupted by the real villain, tragic backstory of dead wives and dead children) Fates just doesn’t do much with it so he’s mostly just a forgettable kind of evil for the sake of being evil kind of guy. Not really like Lyon who people can find relatable in his softer demeanour, or Arvis in his idealism and smugness, or the chadlier villains like Walhart and Ashnard who just look all macho and manly and are powerful like fuck. He’s just some grumpy old man who sits in a throne, looks ugly by most people’s standards and doesn’t seem very impressive. No one really wants to associate themselves with his image, so naturally, that gives me a perfect icon to slot right into that no one else wanted, and immediately carve out a niche as the “Garon guy” because hey it’s funny and everything was a meme back then.
However, over time, I have legitimately found things in Garon I personally can relate into myself and see myself in.
I do see myself as old, even though at time of writing I’m only 21, going on 22 later this year, among my peers growing up I was older because of my birth date in the year compared to theirs in the following year, and considering I’ve lived with physical disabilities in my legs that make walking a painful experience that not even surgery has helped me fully conquer the pains of, I feel very old physically due to having limited mobility and less speed. And since online alot of people I interact with are a couple of years younger than me, though not all of them, I do feel rather old, and I don’t catch onto popular trends of the time at all, like an old man, I had no clue what Vine was about back in the day, and alot of new phrases of the Youth Speak I never get. So “old man” is something I relate to as an experience, despite my actual age and incredibly youthful appearance, it’s a much more social and physical thing.
Garon is evil, he’s bitter, he’s mean, he likes making people (mostly Corrin) suffer and he has a big stupid smile on his face when he does it, and if not, looks grumpy as all hell the rest of the time and doesn’t really care for people, not to . These are traits that are honestly synonymous with me too. I’m not really all that nice if we’re being honest. I don’t really go out of my way to be helpful, I enjoy making people suffer and I smile at the pain of others, and my default expression and state is grumpy and discontented, and I am intensely paranoid and distrustful as a person. Bitterness is a core aspect of this. I’m not as bitter as I was a couple of years ago but I was and still am in some respects a very bitter and resentful man. I loathed everyone, especially myself, but damn I developed misanthropic tendencies and views like nothing else. I barely had or have had or even have currently any friends, I barely ever talk to people, I don’t enjoy being around people, the sound and sight of other people tends to make me feel scornful. And paranoia comes into that too. My upbringing as the younger child in a very dysfunctional family was full of manipulation, broken trust, abuse, alot physical violence, shouting, loud noises and general fear and panic. I developed habits I still use to this day to pick up on movement vibrations to know if footsteps are coming in my proximity and avoid talking much at all to avoid provoking anything and have a massive fear of the family I still live with and of people in general. I only really trust one person on this earth. In the end I’m not really that good of a person, I don’t really empathise much with humanity as a whole, I enjoy seeing people suffer, I’d willingly bring more of it in the world to satisfy my own hedonistic desires and I’m paranoid like all fuck with a stupid ~~sad backstory~~ to boot.
So suddenly, this bitter, evil old man seems to resemble me far more than first thought.
There’s also the aesthetical side to it to, the blacks, golds and purples. The dark armour, the long, regal cape, the big royal axe, the turning into a sick dark dragon, the evil laughter, the whole kingly aesthetics in general are right up my alley and I do tend to like the designs and aesthetics of older men in general for the sort of world weary experience that comes with it. It’s a bit of a meme in of itself but what can you do really? This is more the superficial side of it.
I know there’s people who probably think I’m some weird guy who likes Garon and that I’m probably some internet bad guy or something, and they’re most likely a bit right, but really, it both is and isn’t all that deep. It start out as a bit of a meme, a funny joke to go with an internet persona, but over time I suppose it is really a mirror to the sort of less than desirable, less than pleasant person I am, really. Alot of people like to bang on about their flaws, but they don’t want to acknowledge the uglier side of their flaws, and what that really makes them at their most extreme or least sugar coated. For me, I am open and honest with myself to know what I am on a more blatant level when I embody those traits, and for me, that person is very reflective of King Garon; a sad, grumpy, evil old man, sitting on the throne of an eternally dark nation (not unlike the forever cloudy and dull England I live in, funnily enough), who tends to just be seen as forgettable and a bit of a joke by most people. And I’m fine with that, I won’t run away from it, I can have a bit of fun knowing that me and King Garon both have alot in common, and if you’re going to own up to being a pretty shit person, might as well have some fun with it and attach a winning smile to it, you know?

Note
When a mass murderer commits a shooting in the US, people are focusing on finding ways to sympathize with him. Blaming his “childhood”, bringing up “mental health issues” to portray him as the real victim, etc. as long as the perpetrator is white while rarely extending such sympathy to people of other races. There is even outlet blaming the female partner who left him. So certain trends in the SW fandom are not surprising against this social backdrop.
I have also noticed the eerie similarity between the woobifying language surrounding Benny Boy and the coddling of white mass murderers. It makes me sick.
