When He Sees Me || Peter Parker
MASTERLIST
Pairing:Â Peter Parker x Reader
Warnings: um peter might be a little ooc and thatâs because iâm writing about my unfortunate crush but i basically just changed his name to peter parker any resemblance to real persons living or dead is purely coincidental <3Â
Word count: 2.5k
Summary: What if when he sees me, I like him and he knows it? What if he opens up a door and I canât close it? Catching feelings for your best friend is never easy.
A/N:Â This fic is sponsored in part by @bitchassbucky, @spiderrpcrker, @shurisneakers, @midnightsunfae, and @blackberrybucky who instead of shutting down my feelings, hyped me up to turn my crush and some of the things that weâve done into a fic <3 this goes out to anyone who has ever started crushing on their best friend.
Oh God, please donât walk this way, please donât wa-
âOh, hey Peter!â The crack in your voice betrayed your attempt at a casual greeting, despite your efforts to disguise it with a cough. âHowâs it-- howâs it hanging?â
âYou good?â Peter smiled at you but his eyebrow quirked upwards in concern. âI just wanted to make sure weâre still on for tonight?â His concern faded into a wide grin as you nodded in response. Peter gave you a quick goodbye before walking away towards his next class.
As soon as you saw him turn into the classroom, you turned to face your closed locker, letting out a groan before setting your forehead against it. Peter had asked if you were good, and although you nodded, the butterflies in your stomach threatened to give you away. You were very much not good.
A tap on your shoulder snapped you out of your thoughts and you turned to see your friend MJ. âWhat did Peter do this time?â MJ asked. For the last month, every interaction with Peter -- there have been a lot -- ended this way: a groan of defeat and a few welted lines on your forehead from holding your head against your locker. You turned to give MJ a dirty look, annoyed by the amused smirk on her face.
âAbsolutely nothing,â you sighed, finally lifting your head up to talk to her. You opened your locker as you talked, not wanting to make eye contact with MJ as you confessed your feelings. âHe just⌠smiled⌠and everything went downhill from there.â You rolled your eyes as MJ laughed. âItâs getting worse, I have no idea how Iâm going to get through tonight.â
MJ laid a hand on your shoulder. âWell weâll all be there,â she offered. âAnd if it makes you feel better, no oneâs even noticed. Just act normal and youâll be fine.â She shrugged her shoulders as if that was the easiest thing to do. But you couldnât act normal anymore, not with Peter. Not when normal means resting your head against his shoulder every time he makes you laugh. Not when normal means borrowing his clothes when his aunt May tells you to stay the night every time a study session runs too long. Not when normal means wearing the extra sweater he keeps for you because you always forget yours.
Normal was when you didnât feel butterflies everytime he looked at you, before your curious heart got the better of you and you began to wonder what it might be like to hold his hand. Now, things were just weird. At least for you. Nothing on the surface had changed, no one noticed how your heart rate picked up every time Peter touched you, or how you suddenly felt hot whenever he winked at you. But inside your heart was navigating uncharted territory in your friendship, trying to traipse along the thin line that separated how things have always been and how you suddenly wish things could be.
Pulling your textbook out of your locker, you shut the locker door a just a little bit more aggressively than necessary. MJ gave you a small hug before linking her arm through yours as you walked to your next class.
For the rest of the day, you found it impossible to focus on anything. Instead of taking down notes on George Orwell in English, you found yourself absentmindedly doodling hearts. Everything just reminded you of Peter and your own confusing feelings. Thankfully, you didnât share any classes with him today, leaving you enough solitude to think about just why you were so frustrated with yourself.
Logically, you knew there was nothing wrong with having a crush on someone. Youâve had plenty of crushes before, a few of which reflected a temporary lapse in judgement on your part. You remember telling Peter about each of them, gushing about the most basic acts of human decency as he rolled his eyes and told you that you deserve someone better, but nevertheless helping you pick up the pieces every time someone broke your heart. That, you realized, was what scared you the most.
If you were to date, and then break up⌠well who would be there with kind words and your favorite boba when everything fell apart? The thought of losing your best friend over emotions, feelings, left far too much to chance. Was the idea of holding his hand, of hearing him call you his enough to make you risk the friendship that has always been enough for you? It should be enough for you, you reminded yourself. There was too much on the line and not enough guarantee for you to risk it.
With that determination in mind, you steeled yourself for the rest of the day, determined to put your feelings to rest and go back to normal.
Unfortunately, that plan quickly fell through.
You got to the restaurant a half hour late with only a really good nap to blame. You felt bad that your friends were waiting for you, but when you got there, you found an empty spot next to Peter, where your usual order of ramen was waiting and against your will, the butterflies flew rampant. The noodle that hit Peterâs nose as he ate while waving you over made you laugh as you sat down beside him.
âI got you your usual,â Peter explained in between bites. You smiled and thanked him before digging in. Peter had done this for you many times, and you willed your body to fight against the flutter of your heart.
Thankfully, the rest of your dinner was going well, and everyone had plenty of stories to tell. MJ had begun doing more portraits of people in distress and revealed her latest piece -- a portrait of Peter slurping up a noodle only to get a rogue drop of soup in his eye. Ned and Betty were off again, but of course they tried to keep it civil (they were on again by the end of the night) so no one would have to pick sides. Flash teased Peter about the B that he made on his literature exam yesterday over poetry and Peterâs face turned beet red.
âHey,â Peter began, attempting to defend himself. âI totally couldâve made a perfect score. I was just distracted.â He shrunk down in his seat a little bit, and the rest of you laughed teasingly.
âYeah, youâre telling me,â Flash continued. âYouâve been drawing little hearts all over your notes, dude, itâs unsettling.â He rolled his eyes and took another bite of his food, swirling his fork around the bowl trying to grab as much noodle as possible.
Across the table, you and MJ made eye contact, a look of surprise between the both of you. You tried to signal her to say something before a weird silence fell on the table, but she was not reading your cues. Thankfully, Peter spoke again.
âH-hearts?â He repeated. âWhy would I be drawing hearts on my notes?â Although he tried to play it off, the rise in pitch gave him away. He scrunched his face in exaggeration.
âActually,â Betty began. âNow that I think about it, you were doing that in Spanish class too.â You glanced over at Peter who looked at you with panic in his eyes. You took a long sip of water, suddenly feeling a layer of sweat form at the back of your neck. âWonder what thatâs about.â She shrugged and turned to Ned asking if he wanted to split a slice of cheesecake with her.
Before Peter had a chance to try to defend himself once again, the waitress appeared. âAre you all ready for the check?â she asked.
âYeah, but weâre splitting the check,â Flash replied. Betty rolled her eyes in response. âWhat? Just because Iâm rich does not mean I have to share the wealth.â
The waitress nodded in response. As she was leaving Peter called her back. âOh wait,â he called. âIâll also be paying for this order,â he gestured to your bowl. She smiled at him and headed for the counter.
âPeter,â you smiled. âI have money, I can pay for myself.â Although Peter usually had to order for you, he didnât usually pay for you, unless it was a special occasion.
âI know, I just wanted to be nice,â he responded, giving your shoulder a playful nudge. âPlus, you seem like youâve had a rough week. Every time I see you, you seem to be lost in thought. Whatâs been on your mind?â The sentence came out casually, but the furrow in his brows revealed how concerned he actually has been. Peter was nothing if not observant, like he could sense things better than most people.
You let out a sigh, unsure of what to say. You didnât want to lie to Peter, but you also didnât want to tell him the truth, that you were thinking about him-- well, your feelings for him. Just when it seemed like he had backed you into a corner, however, the waitress had returned with the checks, and the question left unanswered.
After dinner, the six of you went to Flashâs house to watch a movie. He had a home theater and early access to new movies and he loved to remind everyone of that. Not that any of you minded, especially if it got you free popcorn and a movie out of it. Every week, a different person got to select the movie and today, unfortunately, was MJâs turn.
You loved her, of course, but you absolutely detested her taste in movies. Mostly because she was a horror junkie, and you were absolutely not. Her last few turns however had been spent making sure you all had seen all of the Shrek movies. But today, she picked a horror film. Something about demons and the like. Peter and Betty cheered at her selection as Flash groaned. You settled into the couch in the back of the room and grabbed a blanket. Ned and Betty sat together on a smaller loveseat, and MJ sat on the floor in front of Flashâs seat, the perfect spot to be able to scare him with a single touch on his leg.
Peter sat down beside you, handing you a tub of popcorn and a soda. He pulled the blanket over his own lap as he sat criss-cross on the couch. You tried not to pay attention to how his leg was brushing against yours under the blanket, instead focusing on the screen as the room went dark.
The movie had just started, but you could already feel yourself tense up in expectation. The music was coming to a crescendo and you knew something was already going to happen. You didnât realize just how tightly your fists had balled together in your lap till you jumped at the sound of Peterâs soft voice at the shell of your ear. âAre you okay?â He asked.
He tried to hold in a chuckle as you almost bounced the tub of popcorn off your lap. He grabbed it from you and set it to the side. âLook,â he pointed to the screen where the creatureâs head had just rotated a full circle as it crawled up the wall in pursuit of the main character. âThat thing kinda looks like the spider from that kidâs tv show, but not as creepy.â You let out a laugh, a little louder than you meant, and Ned turned to tell you to shut up.
The small joke was enough to dissipate the anxiety you felt towards the movie, but unfortunately only heightened your feelings about Peter. But he noticed how your fists unclenched and how your shoulders relaxed once you laughed, so he continued to tell you whispered jokes for the rest of the movie. Each time he noticed your body tensing, he tried his best to make you laugh, and god, how could you stop yourself from those butterflies anymore?
At the height of the movie, you found yourself with your hands over your ears, and eyes squeezed shut, unable to even look at the screen or hear a joke. When Peter realized a joke wouldnât be enough, he slid closer to you and pulled you into his side and you buried your face into the crook of his neck. Before you had a chance to think about the spicy notes of his cologne or the softness of his skin, the sound of a high pitched scream in the movie caused you to jump with a gasp. In response, Peter wrapped his arms around you tight, with a gentle shush.
It was only after the music began to die down that you opened your eyes again, only to find Peterâs eyes fixed on the screen. Now that the worst was over, you no longer had an excuse to be in his embrace the way you were. You began to wiggle your way out of his arms, attracting his attention.
âWhat are you doing?â he whispered.
âPeter Iâm a big kid,â you smiled, teasing. âYou donât have to hold me like a baby.â Peter let out a soft laugh before relaxing his hold on you just a bit.
âOkay,â he relented. âIâll just hold you like this then.â He began to shift so that your head was on his shoulder, and one of his arms looped under yours, intertwining your fingers. The smile on his face was calm as if this was something the two of you did all the time, but his racing heartbeat reminded you this was something new.
The two of you remained that way for the rest of the movie. By the time the soft music began to play in the credits, you could hear light snoring from everyone else in the room. However, you and Peter made absolutely no efforts to untangle yourselves from each other. It was as if you were worried that once the lights came back on, you would never find yourself like this again, and what a sad idea that was. Normal, would never be enough for you again, not when you know now how much better life could be like this.
You werenât sure if it was the adrenaline from the jump scares, or the sureness of his hand in yours, like itâs always belonged there, that gave you the courage to finally break the silence.
âPeter,â you breathed out, lifting your head from his shoulder, but not letting go of his hand.
He turned to you, with a look of concern, afraid of what you might say.
âKiss me.â The words came out so softly and so quickly that you werenât sure if you said it at all.
âFinally,â he whispered as his lips fell against yours, softly and slowly. He pulled away after what felt like hours and yet not nearly enough time. His hands reached up to cup your face. âI like you,â he admitted. âSo much.â
Suddenly, you felt it. You felt exactly what it must feel like to fly, to let yourself go without worrying about gravity or anything else. The risks were still there, the numbers hadnât changed, but you knew that no matter what happened next, just having the chance to fly would always be enough.

I Love You, With A Touch Of Tragedy And Quite Madly. (Mildred Ratched x Reader)
summary: a regular day at work turns out to be not so regular
a/n: this is for @sassicaismysupreme surpriseeee i was ur secret fic writer. Not important, but this is my first fic ever so i hope it is any good!
warnings: slapping, angst!
Your relationship with Mildred was a fairytale. You were all sunshine and blue skies. Though some clouds might be there with the occasional rainy day, there were rarely thunderstorms.
Mildred only added to your sunshine. She has been like some sort of rainbow hanging above your little heart island, making it a happier place. Rainbows are rare and special, and thatâs also how you looked at Mildred.
It had always been happy. You were used to it like that, and you liked it that way. No complications, no anxiety, no fears, no anger. Mildred was some sort of safe haven where you just never had any problems. That's probably why the situation affected you so much.
It was one of those blue sky, happy sunny days. You opened your eyes, closed them again against the rays that fell right through your curtains. You couldn't be annoyed for long though, because your head immediately met your sleeping girlfriend's.
Your mouth fell into a soft smile upon seeing her. She always seemed to have that effect on you, no matter where you guys were. It once even happened at a funeral, and Mildred had to give u a soft warning glare. Not that that helped though, it only made you smile more. She made you smile. At home, at work, in the grocery store, on the street, at parties, anywhere at anytime. She was quite simply everything to you.
You pressed a soft kiss on her temple âWake up darling, weâll be late.â You whispered, before running your hand softly through her hair. The sun made her features even more gorgeous than they usually were, accentuating her sharp cheekbones and her beautiful big lips. Your hand left her hair and ran softly from the forming frown between her eyebrows all the way down to her nose before putting it on her now blushing cheeks.
âGoodmorning sunshine.â You giggled. A soft smile spread on Mildredâs face as she finally opened her eyes. Her brown eyes looked nearly gold because of the sun. You begged. Wished to stay like this forever, but the alarm went off, pulling you both out of your trances. You grinned at her before you sat up and grabbed her wrist. She positioned herself right in your arms. You let your nose slip into her beautiful reddish-brown hair, smelling her expensive shampoo.
You never got used to moments like these. They made your heart race, and you were sure it also grew 3 times bigger. âI love youâ you whispered into her hair, as if making a promise to yourself that your heart would forever beat for her. âI love you too honey.â She said before yawning. âAww are you sleepy baby?â you teased. âDid i wear you out last night?â your said, and you winked at her. Mildred glared at you, but you could see the pink tones covering her ears and cheeks. You kissed her softly, before pulling away again but resting your forehead against hers, noses touching. âWe have to get ready.â You whispered. âI know.â She replied. She put her soft hands on your cheeks, as her long slender thumbs started stroking the area right beside your nose. âI love you.â You said again, just for the sake of reassuring your promise to her. She knew, because she smiled and when you looked deep into her warm brown eyes you saw that same promise. âI love you too, lets get dressed.â
You were in the car to work, both of you working at the hospital. Mildred drove, always. You did try once, but then nearly hit a car because you were too busy staring at her. You didnât mind not driving, it meant you could stare at her without the posibillity of killing an entire family and their dog.
As you both arrived on the parking lot, you made sure your hat was on right and straightened Mildredâs too. You glanced around, saw nobody and kissed her. It always cleared your mind, kissing her. It seemed to draw out any negative feelings and fill your head with love, much like a love potion.
You both stepped out of the car and went to your respective entrances. You gave Mildred a small smile before parting.
Work went slowly, but good. You were good friends with Huck, and he made time speed up just a little faster, plus seeing Mildred at lunch really made you optimistic again.
After lunch, Mildred called you and Huck to a treatment room. There was a girl there, around your age, and she looked frightened.
âNurse Finnigan, nurse y/l/n, this is miss Ruth Davis. Sheâs here because of unexplainable feelings towards women, which is simply unacceptable, donât you guys think?â You pushed up an eyebrow and looked at Huck, who also had a confused expression on his face. âWell?â Mildred asked, a slight tinge to her tone now. Huck cleared his throat. âYeah uh sure, unacceptable.â
You, however shook your head. âI donât think she should be tortured simply for liking women. I donât see a problem with it honestly.â You said as calmly as you could. You met Hucks gaze, saw his shocked eyes but also his slight grin. You averted your gaze to meet Mildreds eyes, saw a flash of panic. Panic? No, now it was definitely anger. âNurse y/l/n thats incredibly inappropriate. I suggest you find another job if you think that way.â She said, her voice sounded a little too forced for your liking. âIâd gladly do, but um I know you donât have a problem with it either.â You said and moved your head to look at the girl. âShe doesnât,â you told her. âIâd know-â
Before you had the time to finish your sentence, you felt a hard burning on your cheek and you stumbled tot he ground. She had hit you. Your mind was running 800 miles per second. You stared back up at her with tears threatening to come out of your eyes.
âI shouldâve known it wasnât real, right? That this was all a big game to you. That you didnât actually care about me.â You whispered and you tried to lean on your shakey hands. âIâm sorry for believing you didnât actually hate me, Iâm sorry you had to keep your act up for so long. I just thought-â your voice broke mid sentence. âI thought we were happy.â You blinked. Didnât, couldnât look at her. You opened your mouth to speak again, but instead a sob made itâs way out. You shook your head feverently and ran past her. âDonât come after me.â You murmered as your shoulders touched. Away. Away. Away.
You didnât know how long you had ran for, you wondered how you had even kept on going that far. Breathing was becoming, air scraping itâs way through your lungs, making them bleed. Doesnât matter, you told yourself. It definitley wasnât bleeding as badly as your heart
You only ever wanted to be hers. To watch the sunset with her ever night in the summer, and sit by the ocean just because you could. To give her hugs for warmth when she had underestimated the cool sting of the autumn air. To hold her hand on walks during the snow in the winter, and buy her the perfect christmas presents. To pick her some blooming daisies and lavender and violets in the spring and make a bouqet, just for her. You wanted to make her feel wanted.
You came to a halt as you realized where you had run to. Her house. Because that was home. She was. Your face crumpled and you started sobbing. You rand to the nearest wall to steady yourself, before giving up and letting yourself slide down the wall. You let your head fall in your hands and buried your shaking fingers in your hair.
âYes, Iâm scared of you! You hit me!â you screamed out, voice breaking halfway through out of frustration, anger and love. That one was hard to admit, but you knew you were mad because you loved her. Because you had spent months making a flower garden with all of your memories, and all that you knew of her, and all of your feelings, and she had just set it on fire.
âLook y/n Iâm sorry, I donât know what to do.â She said. Her voice was soft and you tried to listen for any sign of a lie. You couldnât find any. You whipped your head up, glaring at her with such passion that even you were scared of what you were capable of. âYou shouldâve thought about that before you put you whole palm on my face, donât you think?â you snarled. You saw her chin tremble, but you couldnât bring yourself to care. âYou know, you always tell your patients not to be afraid, but i donât think thereâs anyone thatâs more scared than you. I know you are, donât even pretend you arenât. I know you.â You paused for a second, took a shaky breath in, cursed at yourself internally. âYou might not know it, but I do. 4 months donât just go by, Mildred. Neither for you nor for me.â
You saw a tear slip out of her eye. âIâm so sorry y/n. I do know. I do care. Iâm sorry.â She breathed, and you could practically hear your heart break. âI donât know what to do, but I do care. I canât-â her sentence got broken up by a big intake of breath, before a loud sob escaped her mouth. âI was so scared.â She cried. Your eyebrow pushed up. You should've known she was afraid, should've known she never agreed to do the therapy, shouldâve known you burnt your own flowers the minute you started talking. But you were confused, and you felt hurt and you reacted on that.
You didn't even think about her feelings, if you were going to be honest with yourself. You wanted to feel guilty, but deep down you knew you couldnât blame yourself. She hurt you, she hit you and that wasnât going to be forgotten in a heartbeat.
But you loved her. More than anything. And so you tried to pick up all of the broken pieces, yours and hers, and tried to glue all of it into one big love ball.
âIâm not gonna say that its okay, Mildred, because itâs not and you know that.â You started. You saw her eyes scarily looking up into yours. You took a deep breath in before continuing. âBut this doesnât mean I donât love you anymore.â Her eyes watered again. âIt doesnât?â You shook your head. âNo it doesnât, but you try doing that again and I wonât give you another chance.â Mildred shook her head violently. âAlright, come on, weâll go home.â
That night before you guys went to bed, you approached her.
âMildred,â you said as she was going to the bathroom. She turned around, her beautiful curls falling just right over her shoulders. âYeah?â she said. You smiled. âI love you.â She hid a small blush while turning back around. âI love you too darling.â She replied. You smiled to yourself. Though this was too big of an issue to just blow over, you knew you and Mildred would work through it. Because you loved her, even if it was tragedy sometimes.

Cabin Life - Whittling Roses
A/N: Hello, I have lost complete control of myself and just keep writing this AU. I blame @berniesilvas, but I also love her and this AU so much. For now, this was all the concrete ideas I had--everything else is vague ideas that I donât have a fic plotted for yet. I hope you all enjoy!

As predicted, the snowstorm blocked off contact between you and Sonny for most of the winter months. As soon as the snow started to melt, it would snow again, causing a bigger buildup. He texted you when he couldâwhen the cells had connectionâbut otherwise, he was confined to his cabin, as you were to yours.
He never once stopped thinking about you, especially when he was huddled in a pile of your blankets, the fireplace happily crackling in front of him. He remembered the night he made love to you right there on the floor, and he wished he could do it again, in his bed this time. Even the thought of your body in his embrace, your warmth and scent surrounding him, was enough to make his body flush with desire.
To help take his mind off youâŚwell, to help control his thoughtsâthere was no ânot thinkingâ about youâhe took a block of wood inside, his whittling blade in hand. When he looked at that block of unimpressive, plain wood, he could clearly see what he wanted to make. But even with his skill, it was a complicated task. At least he had months to work on it.
He spent most of his time whittling. He only took a break to cook, eat, maybe watch tv if he could get a signal in the blizzard. He also brought in a separate piece of wood, to practice different techniques on; he wanted his gift to you to be perfect, to show his love for you.
Sonny let his mind wander as he whittledâas long as he paid attention to the details. His mind irrevocably went back to you every time. He wanted to ask how you felt about kids; though you had mentioned wanting them before, he wanted to see if that was still true.
Eventually, his mind wandered to him marrying you. He wanted to propose, with rings and everything, have both your families there. Maybe he could build an archway to go in that meadow or something, cover it with flowers. He was already building a bridge to go across that creek by his place. An archway shouldnât be too hard.
Then he smiled as a thought struck him; what if he whittled the wedding rings? Heâd have to get better, perfect his craft before he even attempted at something so important. Heâd have to talk to you about that, too, make sure you were okay with it. He had enough money to buy a traditional ring, if thatâs what you wanted.
 ***********************
About a month into his project, he finished the first of what he hoped would be a dozen roses. He gazed intently at the bud, the petals. Then, his eyes travelled down the stem to the leaf, the veins carved into it. Was it the best rose ever made? Absolutely not. But it was a rose, and it would be perfect for you.
It had taken him much longer than he had anticipated to make one rose. He had stopped frequently to practice petals and veins, though, which had taken up time. Still, he was afraid he wouldnât finish them quick enough; he had never spent a winter in the cabin, and he didnât know how long the storms lasted (he had to make a call to the Willisâs for how to cover his gardens). So, while he felt jubilation at finishing one rose, he didnât celebrate, instead getting right back to it.
The second rose only took him two weeks, and the third, a week. Now that the stems were done, he was getting faster at doing the petals and leaves. He still took his time, made sure he didnât mess them up, but he was improving. Some of them, he left as bulbs, the petals just opening, while others were in full bloom. He debated painting them, but he wanted to make his own dyes, and he had no idea how to do that. Plus, he kind of liked the light, wooden color.
Once he finished, he fought the urge to continue working on them. He did go back and fix up some details in the first flower that he learned to deal with by the tenth. Now came the question of what to put them in. Does he get a fancy ribbon and tie the stems together for a bouquet? Or should he whittle a vase for them? Itâs not like they needed water.
Outside, the blizzard raged on. So, Sonny figured he could make a vase, and if he didnât like it, he could toss it in the fireplace. Taking yet another block of wood, he got to work. This project, he had a little less of a vision than before. He thought about it as he pulled the roses together, measuring how big of an opening he needed on top.
Slowly, a shape began to form in his mindâs eye, and he started cutting. He wanted a long, skinny neck on top, and a wider base. He wouldnât have to hollow the inside, only the top part enough to hold the roses. Still, he was doing it by hand, and it took him another month to have just the basic shape done. But he wanted to add details.
Taking his smallest whittling tool, he went to work on the design. Maybe it was corny, but Sonny was a corny guy. He carved apples and his best attempt at lavender flowers, the two things that drew you both together. And in the middle, he carved out a heart, both of your initials inside. He smiled when he was done, knowing that youâd love it regardless; it came from him.
He collected all the wooden roses and rearranged them in the vase until they were how he wanted them. He smiled proudly at the sight, and he wished the snow would stop so he could give them to you now.
 **********************
He only had to wait another two weeks before the snow finally let up enough for him to visit you. The sky was a bright blue, the sun making the fallen snow blinding. Sonny texted you that he was coming over, asking if you wanted to go with him to the local shops to restock on some food. You agreed, and he was instantly on his ATV, the roses zipped up protectively in his jacket.
Sonny parked, then came up to your front door, vase in hand. He knocked and then was suddenly worried that youâd hate the roses, that youâd think him childish. You had given him blankets, something useful, while all he made was wooden flowersâ
You opened the door, smiling brightly when you saw Sonny standing there. You had missed him deeply, and you were happy to see his hair and beard longer. Then your eyes flicked down to the wooden vase clutched in his hand.
âWhatâs this?â you asked, voice hushed in awe at the bouquet.
He swallowed hard. âI, uh, I made ya these fer yaâŚ. I thought, ya know, that I should get ya flowers. But they always wilt and die, so I thought if I made them outta wood, thenâŚ.â
âYouâyou made these?â Your eyes tore from the roses to lock to his blues.
He slowly extended his arm, holding the vase out to you, and you took it, marveling at the details in the leaves and petals, then the vase itself. You chuckled as you recognized the apples and lavender, and you had to blink away tears when you saw the heart.
âSonny, I love them. Thank you so much,â you breathed, smiling up at him.
He grinned nervously, shifting from foot to foot. âYa do? I was afraid that they werenât usefulââ
âOf course, theyâre useful,â you replied, and he tilted his head, brow furrowed. âThey show me how much you love me, even when youâre not here to tell me yourself.â
The brightness of his smile could match that of the sun. âPlus, theyâll never die, like my love for you.â
âYou sap,â you said, giggling. With your free hand, you grabbed his jacket and pulled him to you for a sweet kiss. His nose and lips were chilled from the wind outside, but you didnât care. Besides, his lips warmed quickly enough against yours.
âCome on; letâs head to the market so I can get ya home âfore the snow starts back up,â Sonny muttered against your lips.
You snuck another kiss. âWhy bring me home? Why not just take me to your place? I know we could keep each other warmâ
He let out a low growl, kissing you deeper, his tongue in your mouth. Your bodies were magnetic, drawing each other closer. It was a struggle to pull away long enough to place the roses on a table before you were back, body melding to his, hand going to his hair. He pushed you against the doorjamb, hands exploring under the hem of your jacket.
Your father cleared his throat from inside the house, and Sonny sprung off you as if you had shocked him. âSâsorry, sirââ he stammered, face turning a bright red.
Your father crossed his arms, giving him a hard look. âJust close the door; youâre letting the heat out.â
You gave Sonny a sheepish grin as he came inside, closing the door behind him. You told him you needed to pack some things, and you took the vase, heading for your room, leaving Sonny and your father alone.
The latter studied Sonny intently, gazing at him from over his spectacles, and Sonny tried not to fidget under his scrutiny.
âI intend to marry your daughter,â he blurted out. He winced internally; why the fuck did he say that?! But now that it was out there, he was prepared to defend it to the death. He kept his face a mask of stone, not letting your father see his fear.
He continued staring at Sonny, weighing his words. âDoes she know that?â
âShe does; I told her last time she was over. From the moment I saw her, I knew that I wanted nothinâ more than to marry her.â
He nodded lightly; just a jut of his chin. âHave you proposed? Do you have a ring?â
âItâs only been a few months; I wanted to wait a lil, make sure itâs what she wants, too,â Sonny explained.
âJust donât wait too long; I donât want you leading her on or hurting her.â
Sonnyâs eyes widened in offense. âI would neverââ
You came back right then, a duffle bag in your hand, and glancing nervously between the two men. âWhatcha talkinâ about?â you asked uncertainly.
âNothing dear. Have fun and stay safe,â your father said, and he came over, kissing your cheek, then headed to a different room.
You cocked an eyebrow at Sonny, but he just shook his head, moving to hold the door open for you. Confused at the tension, you went out into the crisp, winter air, taking a deep breath. You were sure Sonny would tell you the whole story later.

Back to You
Summary: You and Mark are all each other have, heâs easily the most important person to you. But something happens and you both are slowly separated, so you work your hardest to be accepted into a college in Korea so you can find your way back to a home with him again.
Masterlist | Main Masterlist
---Part 13
One month later
Donghyuck hoped that by the time the holidays came around, he would have gotten over this crush. He didnât want these feelings to ruin the holidays for you. He is already dragging you to this strange place to be surrounded by his parents and younger siblings. The last thing you need is for him to start acting strange.
Jeno still wouldnât punch him, even after he showed up the night before you were supposed to go to Jeju and begged him. Jaemin agreed, and for a second, he feared for his life. Jaeminâs punch, however, was just a pinch on the cheek. Needless to say, he was both relieved and disappointed.
So now, here he is, standing outside your dorm building and trying not to let his nervousness take over. He knows heâs being dramatic, but he really is worried about messing up your first holiday in Korea. That, and he doesnât want to scare you away.
âHey, you ready?â
Donghyuck jumps slightly, smiling as you laugh softly. âYeah, yeah, Iâm ready.â
âSo I did some research on Jeju,â you start as he leads you down the road towards the bus station.
âOh yeah? What did you find?â
âI heard that the accent is hard to understand. You can help me, right?â
âI think youâll be okay,â he answers, laughing softly. âThe people there speak standard Korean. The only people you might have trouble with are the older people. But I think youâll be okay.â
âGood to know, good to know. And you said your sisterâs names are Daeun and Jimin?â
He nods his head. âTheyâre very excited to meet you. My mom and dad too.â
You laugh, playfully glaring at him. âDonât say that! Iâm not that exciting.â
âOkay, one, you are exciting. And two, theyâre excited because except for my dadâand thatâs because heâs the most introverted of us allâ theyâre all very excited to meet new people. Especially if those people are a friend.â
You nod your head. âAnd you havenât told them about me?â
âOther than youâre a nice person, no, I havenât mentioned anything about you.â
You let out a breath of relief. âGood, that makes me less nervous.â
âYouâve got nothing to be nervous about,â he responds. âMy mom and I are almost the same person. If you get along with me, then you will definitely get along with her.â
âI know Iâm probably worried about nothing, but thatâs just me. Once I meet them, Iâm sure Iâll be fine. Plus, itâs not like Iâll be alone. I have you, and then in a few days, Mark will join us.â
Donghyuck silently nods his head as you both take a seat on the bench, bringing his suitcase to stop in front of him. Heâs both excited and unexcited for Mark to join you. On one hand, heâs excited to get to know you better without Jaemin or Mark. Donghyuck wouldnât say he's jealous of Mark, but thereâs just something in the way you look at him that is more than a friend. Heâs been meaning to talk to his Hyung about his relationship with you, but every time the thought crosses his mind, itâs followed by thoughts of how weird he must sound and what Mark might say about him having a slight crush on someone he hadnât known that long.
On the other hand, that slight crush is the reason he wants Mark there. If Mark is there, then the majority of your attention will be on him, and any weird thing he does around you might not be as noticeable. Not to mention, he just likes being around the olderâheâs his best friend.
The bus pulling to a stop in front of you draws his attention away from his thoughts, and he wordlessly stands up. âYou ready for the adventure of your life?â
You nod your head in confirmation, standing up next to him with a wide smile. He smiles back, letting himself get lost in your eyes for a few seconds. He knows heâs falling too fast; begging Jeno to punch him is proof of that. He canât say what it is about you exactly that has made him fall. He just knows that every day, he finds more and more to admire about you.
âOkay! Then off we go.â Â
----
âHyuckie!â
You smile, watching as his mom pulls him into a hug as soon as she opens the door.
He laughs, letting go of the suitcase handle to hug his mom back. âHi, mom.â
âOkay,â she says, a smile spread across her face as she lets go and opens the door a little wider. âOkay, come on in. The girls are at the Juâs house, so theyâll be back later. I think Haknyeon is dropping them off, so youâll get to see him.â
You silently follow Donghyuck into the house, smiling softly at his mom as you pass her.
âThatâs one of my best friends,â he says, turning to you as his mom closes the door behind you. You let out a quiet ah, not sure how else to respond.
âMom, this is y/n,â He introduces, turning to face his mom. âY/n, this is my mom.â
âNice to meet you,â you greet, bowing. Â
âItâs nice to meet you too, y/n. Come, let me show you to your room.â
You and Donghyuck follow his mom as she leads you around the house. âJimin and Daeun agreed to share a room. But when your other friend gets here, I donât know where heâll stay. Maybe with you, Hyuckie?â
âYeah, of course.â
âAnd if you donât want to, he can stay with me,â you offer quietly.
âNo, we canât have that,â his mom answers, pushing open the door to a room. âYouâre our guest, and I want your stay at the Lee household to be as pleasant as possible.â
âI really donât mind. He and I are like siblings.â You walk past his mom, looking around the room.
âOh really? Donghyuck told me you came to Korea from Canada. Have you been here before?â
You shake your head. âMark and I met in Canada; he was actually born there. His family moved here around my second year of high school. But before he moved, we pretty much grew up in the same household.â
Donghyuck nods his head silently, not hearing the rest of the conversation. He knew from you that Mark and you grew up together, but he canât remember a time when Mark had mentioned you to him. Granted, he didnât have a perfect memory, but heâs sure he would remember his friend saying something about a best friend he had to leave in Canada.
Sure, heâs only known him for about two years. Despite the short time, he feels like theyâve been able to create a special bond between them. Heâs told Mark things Haknyeon doesnât know, and heâs known Haknyeon twice as longâif not longer. The point is, he knows that the bond he feels between him and Mark isnât one way. So why hadnât he mentioned you?
âHyuckie, why donât you show y/n around the house? And then after that, maybe take her around the city if youâre up for it. If not, of course, youâre welcome to stay at the house,â his mother says, bringing her hand to rest on his shoulder. Â
He blinks a few times before simply nodding his head. âYeah, of course.â
She smiles at him, sending you a smile as well before she squeezes past him and walks back down the hall.
âWell, ready for the tour?â
You nod your head, pushing your suitcase to rest at the foot of the bed. âYeah. And then do you think we could go out? I want to buy your sister something for letting me use her room.â
âOh, you donât need to do that. Iâm sure she doesnât mind. I mean, sheâs been telling me I need to âbe around girls who arenât my sistersâ since I was in my sophomore year of high school, so I think sheâll be fine with it,â he answers, closing the door behind you as you follow him out.
He still canât get the thought out of his mind. He didnât want to go so far as to say you were lying about your relationshipâhe had seen first hand how much Mark liked you. But he felt it was weird how openly you talked about your relationship versus how his Hyung talked about it. Which, until recently, was not at all.
âSo, this is your room?â
He nods his head, watching as you walk past him and into the center of the room to look around.
âIt suits you,â you say, turning around to smile at him.
He smiles back, a weird type of anxiety washing over him. He didnât like doubting you. Worst of all, he didnât like how nosy he is being. He wants to know why you and his Hyung talk differently about your relationship, but he also knows he shouldnât care at all; itâs none of his business.
âHey y/n? Can I ask you a kind of personal question that I have no reason to ask, and you can totally say no?â
âSure,â you chuckle.
âYou said Hyungâs family doesnât like you. Why?â
âNot his whole family,â you mutter, breaking eye contact with him. He finds it difficult himself to look at you, instead, bringing his eyes to wander around his room âHis brother and I are on good terms now, and I think his father is too scared to stand up to his mother and say he doesnât have a problem with me.â Youâre silent for a minute, and when he looks over at you, he can see youâre struggling to answer. âAnd as for his mother, itâs a long story. One Iâm not sure how to explain right now, nor do I want to. But what I can say is that my father and Mark had a relationship she was ... jealous of. She had no reason to be jealous, but my father definitely went too far when it came to Mark. She hates my fatherâsomething I donât blame her forâand I think I remind her too much of him.â
âThat must be hard. Can I ask one more question?â
âSure, I donât care.â
âWere you and Hyung really that close? I donât doubt that you two are close; itâs just that before you came, he never really talked about you.â
You smile softly, a faraway look in your eyes. âThat is also because of his mom. We went through something big together, which means weâll be together forever. But like I said, his mom hates me. I donât know for sure, but I think that if he talked about me, his mom would be upset. Iâm sure thatâs why youâve never heard of me. He was probably too scared to talk about me.â
Donghyuck nods his head. He wants to know more, but he knows that would be pushing things; he is lucky enough you told him this much. Maybe heâll talk to Mark about it later, see if thereâs anything heâs willing to talk more about.
âOkay, sorry for bringing that up out of nowhere. Ready to see a little of the town?â
---
At the end of the day, heâs glad Jeno hadnât punched him. His time with you had been nice, and the dinner with his family hadnât been as awkward as he expected it to be. Haknyeon had even joined them for dinner, adding a warm feeling to the atmosphere. He had almost forgotten how bright Haknyeon was.
Jimin had loved the gift you got her (which he had picked out) and told you that she would give you her room any time if it meant you could come over again. In short, his family enjoyed having you around.
Now, everybody had said their goodnights, and Donghyuck could hear his sisters talking in the room next to his. Itâs good to be home; he missed his family. Laying in his bed, he stares up at the ceiling. He used to have stars on his ceiling, and he scrunches his nose at the memory. He canât remember when he took those down or why.
Sighing, his thoughts from earlier come rushing back. He doesnât know why it bothers him so much. It was before he met you. At the same time, heâs known Mark since he moved to Seoul; theyâve been each otherâs best friends for a few years. So why were you never mentioned?
âHey Hyung, how was the first day of the holidays?â
âIt was good,â Mark answers into the phone. âJohnny Hyung was able to come back for dinner, which is always a treat. How about you? Howâs y/n?â
âItâs been good! I got to see Haknyeon Hyung, so that was fun. I forgot how much I missed him. Y/n is also doing well. We got to see a little of the town today, but weâre going out again once you get here so we can really see the town.â
âOh, that sounds fun! Iâm excited to spend the holidays with friends. Iâve never done that before.â
Donghyuck nods his head, hesitating before asking. âHey, can I ask you something about y/n?â
âSure.â
âUm, so she told me a little about your relationship and why your mom doesnât like her. But I was wondering, if itâs okay with you, could you tell me what happened between your family and hers?â
âWhat brought this up?â Donghyuck doesnât miss the hesitation in his hyungâs voice.
âY/n was talking to my mom about how you and her were like siblings when you were younger, and I thought about how I donât think youâve ever mentioned her before. I asked her why she thought that was, and she said it was because your mom doesnât like her. I donât know how to put this without sounding like Iâm accusing her of being a liar, but are you two really as close as siblings?â
Mark sighs. âYeah, itâs a long story that I donât know how much sheâs okay with sharing. But her and I, we have a bond. I canât explain it, but I can tell you I donât plan to lose her again. My family moved back here because my mom couldnât stand y/n being around, so itâs not an understatement to say my mother has some strong, negative feelings towards y/n. So you can imagine how me talking about her went down in the house. As I got older, I realized it was easier to not talk about her at all. I wasnât trying to hide it from you, Hyuck. I was worried youâd mention it in passing to my mom or dad. Iâm sorry if you thought I was hiding it from you.â
Donghyuck knows it isnât his place, but he feels like you and Mark arenât telling him the whole truth. Of course, you and Mark are entitled to your privacy, but thereâs an ugly feeling of being left out that he just canât ignore.
âYeah, no, itâs okay. Iâm sorry about that; it sounds like it was hard.â
âYeah,â Mark sighs. âIt was. But now sheâs here, and my mom canât do anything about it. Weâre making do. I mean, if Hyung can forgive herâand he used to feel just as strongly as my momâthen maybe my mom can get to a place of being okay with her.â
Donghyuck nods his head. âYeah, I hope so too. Thanks for telling me.â
âYeah, no problem. Hey, itâs getting kind of late, and I think my mom has something planned for tomorrow. But Iâll see you guys in two days, okay?â
âYeah, see you then, Hyung. Good night.â
âNight, Donghyuck.â
---
Iâm back! Iâm sorry it took so long to get this out (but are we surprised?)âmy life got busy all of a sudden (and Iâve been having some writer's block, but let's not mention it). But I hope you all have a fantastic day/night! I truly appreciate you all

Hi~ Can I request a fic? for season 3 Javier PeĂąa. Maybe some soft Javi. With y/n being a colleague, but struggling to get back to work because of mental trauma. If that's ok with you.
Donât leave (Javier PeĂąa X Reader)
Not my GIF
A/N: Hey! Hereâs another request for my sweetheart Javi. Thanks to anon for helping out a little more. However, I feel like this isnât great? But I really hope you like it. Thank you for requesting! I hope you enjoy it! Sorry for any mistakes. Stay safe.
Genre: Angst, fluff
Warnings: fem!reader, injury detail, mentions of blood, violence, tears, mental trauma, comfort
Summary: After a mission turns south and months of being off work, she has to face the reality of going back to work.
-
She didnât know what came over her.
Everything moved in slow motion as one of the men lifted their gun and pointed it over at Javier. She wasnât in control of her legs as she ran between them.
Her blood seemed to run cold when the gun went off. There was a ringing in her ear. She could hear another muffled gun shot and the muffled call of her name but she couldnât move. She couldnât do anything other than fall to the ground.
âFucking shit (Y/N)!â Javi yelled as he crawled over to her lifted her shaking torso into his lap. âWhy the fuck did you do that, you idiot!â he scaled her. He pulled his radio from his belt and gave an order to call for an ambulance before he threw his radio to the ground.
She looked up at him with wide eyes full of fear. She was barely breathing and her lips were trembling. He looked down her body to her stomach that was flooding blood that was seeping into her blue shirt. âJ-Javi..â she whimpered. Her voice was barely there though.
âThe ambulance is on its way (Y/N). Youâre going to be okayâ he told her trying not to cry at the sight of her lying petrified in his arms. âYouâre gonna be okay (Y/N)â
Javier didnât move from her. He held her almost lovingly in his arms, gently stroking her hair as he whispered the same words to her over and over again, it got to the point where he was more convincing himself than her was convincing her. But she never responded to him. She just continued to stare at him with the same terrified eyes.
âPeĂąa, la ambulancia estĂĄ aquĂâ (PeĂąa, the ambulance is here) a voice came over the discarded radio beside him.
He picked up the radio and put it back on his belt. âHold on (Y/N)â he whispered to her. He slipped one arm under her knees and the other under her torso and carefully lifted her into his arms as he stood and walked as quickly as he could outside where the ambulance was waiting.
The paramedics raced over to him seeing the state that (Y/N) was in. He walked her over to the ambulance and placed her onto the bed on the inside. She gripped hold of him like her life depended on it, because it felt like it did. She felt that if she let go of him, that would be it for her. âDonât leaveâ she whispered desperately.
âI wonât leave you (Y/N)â he told her as he managed to pry her arms from him âIâll come see you. But you need to go right nowâ
âJavi..â he had to ignore her as he jumped out of the back of the ambulance. He took one last look at her, tears beginning the fall down her cheeks, either from pain or from the fact he was leaving her. He felt unbelievable guilt wash over him but he had to close the doors.
(Y/N) drew in a sharp breath as she splashed water over her face bringing her back into her equally painful reality. She looked at herself in her bathroom mirror and hated the sight. Seeing how her eyes were red and puffy for her uncontrollable tears of fear. Seeing dark circles under her eyes from lack of sleep. Well, peaceful sleep. The sleep she had been getting was plagued of the memory of the event or nightmarish versions of it. Although she still hadnât come to terms with the fact it was a reality.
But the scar on her stomach was evidence enough.
Taking in a few deep breath, she turned off the tap stopping the water. She stood there for a moment longer, griping the sink in both hands as to try and ground herself. She was trying to brace herself for today.
She knew it wasnât going to be easy. She would most likely suffer for the whole day. But she had to go back at some point, and if she didnât now, then she never would.
(Y/N) let out a slow breath and pushed herself off the sink and slowly made her way out of her bathroom. She now face a new challenge; getting dressed. She already had her clothes laid out on her bed, but she didnât quiet know how to go about it. If she were in any other state, it would be simple. But the injury to her stomach made it all the more difficult.
It had been six months almost to the day since it happened. She had been at home for those six months, bored out of her mind and in incredible pain. She spent most of her day in bed for it was too much to move. Only getting up to use the bathroom, get a drink or make some food. But even doing that let her in excruciating pain and short of breath.
The highlight of her week would be when Javier would come round to visit her, to check on her. He always brought over some ice cream because it was easy to eat, plus she loved it. But since he had been delving deeper and deeper into the Cali Cartel, he had been flying between BogotĂĄ and Cali quite a lot so his visits became less and less frequent, leaving her all alone with her nightmares.
But she didnât blame Javi for leaving her alone. He was doing his job and she wasnât prepared to get in the way of that. She was convinced that if it wasnât for him, she would be dead anyway. She was immensely thankful to have him as a friend.
(Y/N) was also thankful that the ambulance showed up when it did. Not just because it meant she got to the hospital quicker, but because she was a second away from confessing how much she loved him. She believed she was in the verge of death and didnât want to go without telling him, but she knew if she did, she would have to live with the embarrassment that he did not feel the same. They were friends. Just friends.
Somehow she managed to get changed into her fresh clothes. Today she was returning to work. Ambassador Crosby had warned her against it saying she still needed time to rest both physically and mentally, Javi said this too but she couldnât spend another minute at home on her own. She had to get back to work.
The journey from her apartment to her car took twice as long than it should have, and the journey from her car (in her car) to the embassy was just the same, but that was partly due to traffic.
When she finally made it to the embassy, she couldnât bring herself to get out of her car. She sat and watched people walk in and out of the building. To them, everything was normal. But to (Y/N), having to walk back into the building was like walking into the jaws of death.
(Y/N) leant her head on the steering wheel and squeezed her eyes shut, drawing in shaky breaths as she tried to calm herself down and hype herself up for going back inside. âCome on (Y/N)â she whispered to herself âyou got this far. Just a few more steps and youâll be thereâ
She drew in a few more breaths before grabbing her bag and pulling herself out of her car. She took her time in walking to the embassy, those who were outside gave her looks as she walked past them but she tried her best to ignore them. But when she got inside it was no better. Everyone looked at her and whispered amongst themselves. She was the desk agent that got shot. Thats what she was known as now. Not the smiley, happy, caring agent she was before. She was the one who got shot.
To get to her own office she had to walk past Javiâs. She looked into it and saw it was empty. She also noticed that Van Ness and Feistlâs desks were empty too, meaning they were all out scoping for leads in the Cali cartel, most likely in Cali.
Finally she got to her office and saw a pile of papers on her desk. At least she would have something to distract her. At the top of the pile was a note from the Ambassador welcoming her back and telling her to take it easy.
She sat down in her chair and let out a sigh as she examined the stack of files she had been left to deal with. She grabbed a pen and the top file and began getting to work trying to focus only on the paper rather than the nightmarish visions at the back of her mind crawling closer and deeper into her.
It canât have been any more than ten minutes before she got a sharp pain in her stomach causing her to stop and sit back in her chair. She was overcome by sudden frustration at the fact that she couldnât even do her work.
âWhat are you doing back?â Came a voice form the door way. She looked up and saw Javi standing there.
âWorkingâ she mumbled picking up her pen again.
âClearly youâre in a fit state to be workingâ he said.
âI cleared it with Crosbyâ
âAnd he told you to take another few weeks offâ Javi stepped into her office and closed the door before taking the chair opposite her and crossing one leg over the other âlike I did. Why didnât you listen?â
âYou canât say thatâ she said with a slight smile âyou didnât listen to me. You remember when we were still in training and you literally shattered your leg? I told you to rest but you came back way too soonâ
âThat was different (Y/N)â he told her âthat was my own faultâ
âAnd so was thisâ she told him âIâm the one who jumped in front of the bullet after all...â
There was a heavy silence over the two of them as she just stared at the piece of paper on her desk. There were so many thing Javier wanted to say to her. So many things he couldâve said to break the silence but he was scare the open his mouth. Scared that everything he wanted to say would just tumble out of his mouth in a mess that she couldnât understand and heâd embarrass himself in front of her. But it was selfish of him to be thinking about his own stupid problems when the woman he loved took a bullet for him. But there was one question that was at the forefront of his mind.
âAre you okay?â He asked quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. He watched her as she dropped her pen again and her bottom lip trembled. She brought her hand to her forehead and turned her head from him slightly.
(Y/N) drew in a sharp breath before she started to cry quietly. She didnât want him to see but there was nothing that could stop him considering he was sat right in front of her. Javier stood from his chair and pulled it round to her so he was sat beside her. He rested his hands on her thighs, rubbing them in a loving manner.
âIâm sorry Javiâ she sobbed into her hands âIâm so sorryâ
âHey,â he said softly as he reached out to grab her hands to pulled them from her face making her look at him. His heart sank when he saw her bloodshot, watery eyes. A similar broken look in her as to when it happened. âYouâve got nothing to be sorry forâ he said rubbing the back of her hands with his thumbs.
âI was an idiot...â she sniffed.
âYeah, you wereâ he agreed with a nod making her laugh slightly. âBut I wouldâve done the same for youâ he told her quietly.
âJavi..â
âIâm serious (Y/N). Had it been the other way round, I wouldâve taken a bullet for youâ
âI wouldnât want you to do that for meâ
âAnd I didnât want you to do it for meâ he said âand...Iâve never been more scared in my lifeâ he paused for a moment. His grip on her hands tightening as he swallowed thickly trying not to cry himself. âThe thought of loosing you...I couldnât do this without you (Y/N). I couldnât live in a world without you. You mean more to me than you will ever know...â
He saw tears fall to her hands and heard her drew in shaky breaths. He moved further to her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into his chest. She gripped his suit jacket and sobbed into his shirt. âIâm so sorry Javier. I donât want to live without youâ
âYou wonât (Y/N). Iâm going to help you get through this. You will get through thisâ he told her placing a soft kiss to her hair âIâm not going to leave you. Not this timeâ

Endless Summer Book 4: Daughter of Vaanu (Chapter 56)
Description: The Catalysts attempt to return to their lives as River Skye finally comes home. tagging: @endlesshero1122 @mysteli @feartheendlesssummer @whatmcsaid @tigerbryn11
Chapter 56: Not Over
Alodia
I almost canât believe how quickly I start to feel better once the fever breaks. The pain, which had felt like some hellish demon with teeth made of red-hot iron gnawing at my lower back, begins to recede within hours.Â
âThatâs how it tends to go with an infection like this once we find the right antibiotic,â the doctor tells me. âYou are fortunate, though. These days, a lot of bacteria have developed resistance to antibiotics. But the infection is responding well to treatment, and all your vitals and your blood work look good. And your daughter appears as healthy as a baby horse. ...I would just like to take a quick look at how youâre healing from the birth if thatâs okay.âÂ
I nod, turning onto my back with Jakeâs help as the doctor draws the curtain around the bed. Improved as I am, I know Iâm not at full strength yet, because moving still hurts. I guess I must have winced, because the doctor raises an eyebrow in concern as she pulls on a pair of gloves.
âYou okay there?âÂ
âI think so. Guess Iâm still pretty sore.âÂ
âThatâs to be expected. You probably wonât feel one-hundred percent for another week or two at least.âÂ
I draw my knees up and part my thighs while the doctor pulls up a stool at the foot of the bed and lifts the blanket. I keep my attention focused on Jakeâs face above me and the pressure of his hand on mine as the doctor carries out her checks. Occasionally, I let my eyes wander around to the multiple bouquets and mylar balloons that have built up over the past couple days, gifts from the Catalysts, Tahiraâs team, my aunt and uncle, and Jake and Diegoâs parents.Â
âEverything is healing beautifully. Stitches should be dissolved by next week. Youâre probably going to be feeling pretty tender for a while though.âÂ
âYeah, we had the whole tearing conversation with my OB in California some time ago.âÂ
âGood. If you have any pressing questions regarding the birth and recovery, you can of course ask me, or one of the maternity staff. We can also forward your hospital records to your regular OBGYN.âÂ
âHow long do you think it will be before we can go home?â Jake asks.Â
She pulls the blanket back down and stands, peeling off her gloves. âWell, the fact is, we want to get her and your baby out of here ASAP to lower the chances of either of them picking up a secondary infection.â She smiles at me. âNow that the feverâs gone, weâre gonna get you off the drip and onto some oral antibiotics, and we can pretty much start the discharge process immediately.âÂ
âSo soon?â My own question surprises me, but itâs out of my mouth before I realize itâs on the end of my tongue.Â
âBelieve me, itâs better we get you both out of here.âÂ
âI know. Itâs not that I want to stay here. Itâs just...thinking about how weâre going to get home...how soon we can get homeâŚâÂ
âThatâs all taken care of, Princess. Aleister is having Castor and Pollux deep cleaned, and he and Grace are gonna put us up for a few days until Mike gets up here from Santo Domingo. Diego and Varyyn are with Estela and Quinn, and your aunt and uncle basically paid for hotel rooms for everyone else.âÂ
His infodump has my head reeling a little, but there was one particular tidbit I find myself fixing on.Â
âWhy is MikeâŚ?â I trail off as realization crashes down on me in an icy wave. A bit of information I had nearly forgotten in my struggle to bring my baby safely into the world while fighting a fever. Jake wasnât worrying about me for all that time from the safety of our home in California. I donât know the details, but I have a sinking feeling that has something to do with the reason that Mike isnât here with us now.Â
Jake folds my hand between his palms, glancing at the doctor. âHey...do you have everything you need? Iâd like a few minutes alone with my wife, if thatâs okay.âÂ
âOf course. Iâll get the ball rolling on your discharge.âÂ
I wait until Iâm sure sheâs well clear of the room before I reach to stroke Jakeâs cheek. â...I know Lundgren got his filthy hands on you. ...Fiddler told me. ...Iâm guessing he got a hold of Mike, too.âÂ
He leans into my touch. â...And Sean and Michelle. Nabbed us all as I was bringing âem back from the island.âÂ
âI donât know if she told me that. That conversation got swallowed up in worrying about you, and then I got sick and River started coming, andâŚâ I swallow, running my thumb along the fuzzy ridge of his cheekbone. â...Did they hurt you? Any of you?âÂ
He shrugs, not meeting my eyes. âKnocked us all around a little. Michelleâs the smart one, of course, so she escaped the worst. ...Mikeâs in Santo Domingo having his prosthetics repaired. Lundgren ripped them out ot torture him.âÂ
I shudder. âOh, god...Oh, Jake, Iâm sorry...Iâm so sorryâŚâÂ
Iâm crying before I realize it. And as soon as I do realize, it turns into sobbing. Jake reaches down to gather me in his arms and cradle my head against his shoulder, rocking me tenderly.Â
âItâs okay,â he murmurs into my hair. âItâs okay. Heâs gonna be fine. Youâre gonna be fine. In a few days, weâll be home with our baby.âÂ
âI w-wanna be home,â I hiccup. âI wanna be home with River, but Iâm scared of leaving everyone again. I just wanna bring them all home with usâŚâÂ
âWell, itâs a very big house. ...On the other hand, you cram us all into the same house long term, it might start to feel less big. Plus, it would mean a brutal cross-country commute for some of them.âÂ
I canât help chuckling a little bit, which makes the sobs start to die down. Jake gives me a moment to get myself under control before he speaks again.Â
â...How are you feeling, Princess? Really?âÂ
âPhysically?â I pull back gently to lie down on the pillow again. âDefinitely better. My head is clearer, and I donât hurt as much. But Iâm still worn out. And by the way, youâre gonna have to make due with blow jobs for awhile, because itâs gonna be a long time before you stick that thing in me again, if ever.âÂ
Itâs his turn to laugh, and he bends to kiss me. âPrincess, I will tug it for the rest of my life as long as youâre still a part of that life.âÂ
âI will be a part of your life as long as the universe allows,â I promise. â...But Jake, we both know this isnât over.âÂ
He sighs, and I see his forehead crease before he presses it to mine. âI know. I know youâre right. But for Riverâs sake--and mine--will you let the others take care of that for now? I ainât saying donât worry, because I know thatâs impossible. But River and I need you healthy. Can you stand to let yourself be looked after for a while?âÂ
I feel a rueful smile tug at one corner of my mouth. âAm I to assume that arguing is pointless?âÂ
A tapping at the open door to the birthing suite distracts Jake from answering. We both look up to find Raj and Diego hovering in the doorway, Raj with a paper bag in his hand, and Diego with his right arm in a soft blue sling. Itâs the first time Iâve seen him since River was born, and I sit up a little straighter as he hesitantly steps over the threshold.Â
â...Are we interrupting?âÂ
The baby has started fussing, and Jake eases off the edge of the bed to go pick her up. I open my arms to Diego. Just before he rushes into them, I see his face twist with anguish. And as he falls against me, his one-armed grip is surprisingly strong.Â
âGoddammit, Allie,â he whispers quiveringly. âGoddammitâŚâÂ
â...Did I scare you?âÂ
He pulls back sharply, enough so he can look me in the face, but he keeps a grip on my shoulder. âDid you scare me?! You had me on my knees saying the Ave Maria! Do you know how long itâs been since I said the Ave Maria?!âÂ
There isnât really a lot I can say to that, but I smile ruefully. â...Thanks for staying with me.âÂ
âWhat, you thought Iâd bail?âÂ
I snort. âGod, no. But I can still be grateful.âÂ
â...Youâre really okay?âÂ
I nod. âIâm fine. The fever is gone, and the wound doesnât really hurt anymore. Iâm still pretty sore down there, though.âÂ
A smile finally starts to play cautiously around his mouth. â...Well, that partâs Jakeâs problem.âÂ
âHow about you?â I ask, gingerly touching the strap of his navy blue sling.Â
âThatâs nothing serious. It was dislocated, but they popped it back in. Just got to wear this for a few more days, and take it easy once we get back home. ...Raj brought food, by the way.âÂ
âOh!â I pull back a little to smile at Raj. âSorry, big guy. I didnât mean to ignore you.âÂ
Raj chuckles. âWeâll blame it on the new mommy brain and leave it at that. Speaking of whichâŚâ He shoos Diego back enough that he can drag my bed table over across my lap, and sets an insulated lunch box on top. âI figured you could do with something better than hospital fruit cups and oatmeal, so I brought you a special Raj lunch. Michelle supervised its creation, and itâs full of stuff thatâs supposed to be good for new moms.âÂ
âWhat is it?âÂ
âSo glad you asked!â With a flourish, he opens the bag, and pulls out each item in turn, presenting them like a game show prize lady. âA sandwich of salmon, spinach, and poached egg on whole wheat bread with a garlic white bean spread; in case you are extra hungry, a side of gourmet trail mix made from an assortment of nuts and dried fruit; and to drink, a pineapple-orange-banana smoothie with extra protein powder, and just a few extra leaves of spinach!âÂ
I canât help but be uplifted by his enthusiasm, and hold out my arms for a hug. âI must be the most spoiled new mother in the world.âÂ
Raj embraces me lightly over the table. âAs you should be. You know in some Asian cultures, a new mother spends a whole month resting while her mother-in-law takes care of her and the baby.âÂ
âOh yeah?â I look at Jake. âThink your mother would spend a month taking care of me?âÂ
âHonestly, I bet she would. The problem would be getting her to ease up and let you start taking care of things after the month was up.âÂ
âHmm...probably best not to give her ideas then.âÂ
âProbably. Weâll have my folks over in few more months, when weâve had a chance to get settled.âÂ
â...ButâŚâ Raj says, âin the meantime, do you think you guys will be needing any extra help? I know itâs going to be a pretty full house as it is, but Diegoâs going to want to take it easy with lifting and stuff for a while, and Michelle says Mike will probably need time to recover, too. If you need a couple extra pairs of hands and someone to do the cooking, I have some downtime, and I know Lila would be happy to come along.âÂ
I look questioningly at Jake, who shrugs. âI donât have anything against that. Itâs a big enough house. And if Varyyn and I are gonna be the only ones at full strength for the time being, I wouldnât say no to a couple extra pairs of hands.â
âAnd probably better those hands be Raj and Lila than anyoneâs parents,â Diego adds. âI bet Varyyn would prefer not having to wear his disguise twenty-four-seven.âÂ
âYeah. And,â Jake adds with a sigh, shifting River to rest against his shoulder, âitâs probably preferable not to involve anyone who ainât already involved in the bigger picture. ...Like you said before, Princess, this ainât over.âÂ
âBut for now, weâre all safe and sound, and Allie has a lunch to eat.â Diego smiles encouragingly as he pushes the tinfoil-wrapped sandwich toward me. âGo on. Dig in.âÂ
Jake
I gotta admit, it does my heart good to see my wife savoring the meal Raj brought her and enjoying our friendsâ company. She seems almost back to her old self as she talks and tells jokes and teases with them. Although, as I put River in her arms, I canât help but be reminded that sheâll never be exactly like her old self again. Not now that sheâs a mama. Not like Iâm ever gonna be exactly like my old self again either. Iâm a daddy now. Thatâs gonna change me forever. The thought scares me, like it has a lot over the past nine months. But just a look at that precious little face is enough to reassure me that I am never gonna regret it.Â
Diego and Raj eventually leave us on our own again. After nursing and burping, River sleeps just long enough that we can fill out her birth certificate, nestled side-by-side on the bed. From there, itâs not more than an hour or two before theyâre wheeling Alodia toward the hospital exit with River in her arms again while I walk at her shoulder, a baby carrier in the crook of my elbow and my arms laden with flowers and mini mylar balloons. Any staff we happen to pass on the way out smile and wave or give us their congratulations. I have a feeling that in a hospital, any chance to see a patient off happy and healthy is a cause for celebration, and that probably goes double for a new mama leaving with a baby.Â
Grace is waiting in a car for us at the curb outside the hospital. One of Reggieâs old carseats is in the backseat. Grace settles the baby in the carseat while I help Alodia into the seat beside her.Â
âThereâs a surprise for you guys when we get to our place,â Grace informs us as I circle around the car to get in on the other side of River.Â
âNothing too strenuous, I hope,â Alodia quips. âI am not up for a party yet.âÂ
Grace chuckles as she starts up the car. âOh, believe me, I realize that. No, everyone is pretty sure parties are off the table for you for the time being. ...But you do know that everyone is going to want to see you before you leave, right? You gave us a scare, and no one wants you to go before we all know youâre okay. ...Plus, everyone wants to see River.âÂ
âI am not opposed to visitors,â Alodia assures her. âJust...only a few at a time.âÂ
âAbsolutely. We wonât let you get overwhelmed.âÂ
âRiver, either,â Alodia adds, stroking our sleeping daughterâs downy hair. âPoor thing is probably overwhelmed as it is, suddenly coming into all this noise and color and light.âÂ
âBirth is the craziest thing that ever happens to us, and none of us remember it,â I remark, letting the blade of my forefinger run gently back and forth across the soft back of Riverâs tiny hand. Her little fingers twitch just slightly, and the base of her pacifier rocks back and forth across her lips, but she doesnât wake up. I donât expect the quiet will last.Â
River does sleep throughout the half hour or so it takes to drive to Aleister and Graceâs luxury Northbridge apartment. As we pull up to the curb, I realize what our surprise is.Â
âMike!âÂ
I must have been a little louder than I thought, because River wakes up with a cry that can only be described as irritated, but it doesnât fully register until I have already launched myself out of the car towards Mike. Heâs balancing on a walker, so I at least have the good sense not to jostle him, but I canât hold myself back from grasping him firmly by the shoulders. He grins, carefully removing his hands from the walker one at a time to grasp me back.Â
âGood to see ya, Grandpa.âÂ
âShit, you too! We werenât expecting you for another couple days! How are you feeling?âÂ
âWell, as you can tell,â he says, nodding at the walker, âIâm not quite ready to run a marathon yet. But my new legs are healing up nice. ...Good to see you, Goldilocks.âÂ
His gaze shifts over my shoulder, and I turn to look back at my wife supporting herself on Aleisterâs arm while Grace bounces River in her arms. Alodia smirks at me, her eyes twinkling mischievously.Â
âI feel like I should make a joke about you abandoning your wife and child in the car to go hang out with your buddy,â she drawls.Â
I grin sheepishly as Mike carefully returns his grip to the walker. âSorry about that. Let me make it up to you.âÂ
I lunge and sweep her up bridal style, and I have the pleasure of feeling her arms twine around my neck.Â
âMmm, much better. However, unlike your daughter, I am actually capable of walking.âÂ
âBut you donât have to. Not right now, anyway.â But I do return her to her feet after capturing her mouth in a kiss. I donât entirely take my hands off her yet, though. After her ordeal, I donât think sheâs really that much steadier than Mike right now. Her grip as she slips her arm through mine confirms my concerns.Â
Iâm standing between my wife and my best friend, and neither of them are fully able to stand under their own power. Iâm starting to feel that much more grateful to Raj for volunteering to help us out for a while.Â
I think Mike notices Alodiaâs weakness, too, because his forehead creases just a little. âYou all right, Goldilocks? From what I hear, you gave everyone a real scare.âÂ
âIt was pretty scary on my end, too. But Iâm fine now. How about you?âÂ
Mike shrugs. âAhh, you know. A few weeks of rehab, Iâll be a six-million dollar man again. In the meantime,â he adds wryly, stroking the frame of his walker, âitâll be hard to call Jake âGrandpaâ when Iâm dottering around on this thing.âÂ
âYou just called me âGrandpaâ two minutes ago.âÂ
âAnd I cannot tell you how hard I internally cringed. Seriously, if you could have seen my internal expression, youâd have thought I was sucking lemons.âÂ
I am morally obligated to reach out and swat him for that, but before I can, Alodia abruptly steps forward to wrap her arms around his shoulders. Itâs an awkward embrace, encumbered by the walker and both of them still being weak, but itâs a sincere one, and Mike leans into it gratefully.Â
âIâm glad youâre okay,â Alodia murmurs.Â
âYou too,â Mike says softly, reaching up to pat her shoulder with one hand. âBut can we go inside? I wanna properly meet that baby youâve been carrying around for the past nine months!âÂ
***
The Catalysts come by in shifts throughout the afternoon and evening, apparently having planned it all out beforehand. No one stays more than an hour at a time, which proves to be a good thing, since Alodia is clearly worn out by about eight in the evening. Weâre set up in the guest room of the Rourke apartment, with River in a bassinet beside us, and Mike on the foldaway bed in the living room.Â
Alodia nurses River and rocks her to sleep before lying down herself. At first, I curl up beside Alodia in bed. Sheâs asleep within minutes, but Iâm not as quick. And after an hour, itâs pretty clear that Iâm not on my way to dreamland any time soon. I donât want to leave Alodia or River. I never want to leave Alodiaâs side again. But Iâm restless. Anxious. And eventually, the desire not to disturb what precious little sleep my wife might have before our daughter wakes her up again wins out over my irrational need to pace back and forth between them. I check the windows, making sure theyâre locked, then I slip out of the room as quietly as I can, heading back out into the living room.Â
I find Mike, Aleister, and Grace all seated in the living room. On the coffee table are four short, round glasses and a bottle of golden red liquid that Iâm guessing is some kind of whiskey.Â
âWe were starting to wonder if you had also fallen asleep,â Aleister says. He gestures to the glasses. âWe thought you might like to wet your babyâs head.âÂ
âKind of a weird expression,â I remark. Nonetheless, I pick up the bottle and take a seat in an armchair to read the label. âOoh, Irish Mist. Fancy.âÂ
âIt is not every day that one becomes a father. The night Reginald was born, Diego, Varyyn, and I toasted his birth with Irish Mist.âÂ
I crack open the bottle, and lean forward to fill each of the four glasses about halfway. I set down the bottle and raise my glass, the others following suit.Â
âTo River Skye McKenzie, my beautiful angel. And to her mother, my better half, who is truly the best and bravest of us.âÂ
âHere, here!â Grace says. We clink glasses, and I take a long, deep drink, savoring the sweet notes of honey and spices riding atop the alcoholic burn of whiskey. I return my glass to the table empty and lean back in my chair.Â
âWhen my sister and I both were born, my grandpa had my dad and the men of the neighborhood over to smoke cigars on the porch.â I chuckle a little. âRebecca remembers helping our grandma in the kitchen, and seeing all the men outside smoking. She says what she remembers most about the day I was born was our dad coming in from outside to give her a hug, but she pushed him away and said, âNo, Daddy! You stink!ââÂ
My story prompts the expected laughter.Â
âI am afraid Irish Mist will have to do tonight,â Aleister says. âI did not think to buy cigars. Nor would I know enough to ensure I was purchasing a quality product. As I understand it, Cuban cigars are the best, but those are illegal.âÂ
Mike shudders. âHonestly, I think the smell of a Cuban would be enough to give me flashbacks. Lundgren used to smoke contraband Cubans.âÂ
âSame here,â I agree. âI mean...there was that one timeâŚâÂ
â...That one time what?âÂ
I chuckle a little, rubbing the back of my head. âOkay, no one currently in this room was there when Zahra blew up MASADAâŚâÂ
âWhatâs that got to do with Cuban cigars?âÂ
I sigh, but in spite of myself, in spite of how literally everyone else in the room with me was in some kind of bad situation at the time, I feel a smile playing around my mouth at the memory.Â
âOkay, so itâs me, Alodia, Sean, Quinn, Estela, Craig, and Zahra trying to find another way out of the complex after the gondola gets severed, and when we go through a control room, Zahra gets the idea to blow the whole thing up. We figure itâs worth the couple extra minutes, so we let her do it. And while sheâs rigging the system, I find one of Lundgrenâs Cubans somewhere on the floor. ...And I light it up. But only to spite the bastard.âÂ
âBut did you enjoy it?â Mike asks.Â
âHell, yeah! The hype ainât a lie, buddy. Not saying Iâd do it again unless it were one of his personal stash, but that was a real good smoke. ...Still...it wouldnât be right to celebrate River with Cuban cigars. Lundgren and Rourke did enough to taint her birth.âÂ
âNothing has been tainted,â Grace says firmly. âShe and Alodia both came through it well and healthy.â
âI ainât losing sight of whatâs important,â I assure her. âBut I canât let my guard down, either. ...We all know this ainât over.âÂ
Grace sighs. â...No, youâre right. It isnât over. ...Which means...I should probably tell you what I learned in Ireland.â
Diego
I knew that the Catalysts wouldnât have sat on their hands while any of their own were in danger, but I am surprised to learn just how busy they were during the time that Allie and I were in Arachnidâs claws. Iâm even more surprised--and frankly unsettled--by some of the things they learned. Yvonne might be alive. Lundgren flew the same plane that killed Allieâs parents, even though the twisted wreckage of that plane is the property of the NTSB. The whole mess with Allieâs mom, that weird AI message from a program made by Allieâs mom. It all leaves us with a lot more questions than answers.Â
I told the police everything I felt like I could safely tell them. I went so far as to tell them that I think Everett Rourke might be alive because thatâs who our kidnappers claimed they were taking us to. I donât know if they believed me. I donât know if the future of the Vaanti is safe. A part of me hopes that they lose interest in the case since everyone who was abducted has been recovered safely. But I also know that none of us are really safe until Rourke is either back behind bars or dead.Â
Aleister and Estela make all the travel arrangements for those of us going back to California, including my folks and Allieâs. Castor carries me, Allie, Jake, Varyyn, Mike, Raj, Lila, Rebecca, and River. For once, Jake and Mike arenât going to be flying. Pollux is taking our families. A third plane, smaller but no less luxurious, takes Jakeâs parents back to Louisiana. Theyâre reluctant to leave him. They donât want to be apart from their son, or their daughter, or their granddaughter. He assures them they can come visit soon, but that their daughter-in-law needs some time to recover first.Â
At the airport, Allieâs aunt and uncle hesitate to part from her on the tarmac. Allie stands with River in her arms, patiently enduring as Molly smoothes her hair and kisses her forehead, asking if sheâs sure Allie doesnât want her and Rob to wait at the airport in California to drive her home. When Allie insists sheâs sure; that Molly and Rob should go ahead and get home so they can rest. Rob says theyâll make sure there are cars waiting for us to take us all back to the house in Laguna.Â
My parents board the plane before I arrive at the airport. On board the plane, I nestle up with Varyyn on one of the double-width leather seats. I wind my arms around him and bury my face in his shoulder, inhaling his scent. He kisses the top of my head.Â
âAre you alright, my love?â he murmurs.Â
â...Iâll be fine,â I assure him. âIâm just...disappointed. I knew my parents werenât ready to meet you. But I had hoped...I donât know. I had hoped it wouldnât be like this. Even if I knew it probably would be.âÂ
Varyyn sighs, bringing a hand up to stroke my cheek. âThey may yet come around. Or they may not. In the end, it is up to them. All I can promise is that I will love you regardless of their decision.âÂ
â...I love you, too.âÂ
âYou guys all set?â Rajâs voice makes me look up. The others are boarding behind us and finding their seats. Jake helps Allie settle in and get her seatbelt on, River still cradled in her arms.Â
âAre you sure a plane is really the best way to travel with a newborn?â Lila asks.Â
âWhen the choices are between a rental car, a train, or a private plane for a cross-country trip, a private plane is hands down the best option,â Rebecca declares. âI mean, if we were on a commercial plane, Iâd think twice, since those things are basically flying petri dishes. But this plane has been deep-cleaned, unlike the train. Itâs more comfortable than a car, and faster than both the car or the train.âÂ
âYeah, but what about her little ears? All the pressure?âÂ
âThe doctor says that if I nurse her during take-off and landing, that should keep her comfortable. Besides...I just want to be home.âÂ
Home. The word washes through me in a way that comforts me even as it makes me want to cry. Images flash through my mind of the house I share with my husband, my best friend, her husband, and his best friend--and now, my little niece and goddaughter. Watching movies in the living room with Allie. Sharing dinner around the table or out on the balcony. Cuddling with Varyyn in the hot tub in the evening, letting the warm, swirling water sap the energy from my body, and then sliding into bed beside him and drifting off to sleep in his arms. At home, I donât have to hide. I donât have to walk on eggshells or worry about losing anyoneâs love. At home, Iâm safe and free. I meet my best friendâs eyes, offering her a tired smile.Â
âIâm with you, Allie. Letâs get home.âÂ
Raj
Nothing but the best for my friends, thatâs my motto. I came to the house in Laguna Beach to make sure that my friends would have the best care while they needed it, and I waste no time in getting down to business. Alodia, Diego, and Mike need space to convalesce. But with a new baby in a huge house like this, there is a lot to be done. Jake and Varyyn canât be expected to do everything, and thatâs where I and Lila come in.Â
River is constantly monitored. Whenever she cries, someone is ready to come running to change her diaper, or to bring her to Alodia for feeding. I prepare meals ahead of time that can be easily heated and served, so no one goes hungry. Lila helps me cook and keep the house clean. Alodiaâs aunt and uncle attempt to send cleaning and catering services to her at one point, but they end up being politely refused. Lila and I have everything under control, and none of us want strangers poking around here.Â
Alodia is occasionally moody, snapping at everyone to stop fussing over her, and she canât wait to be free of this gilded cage and go back out into the world. This is usually followed by tearful apologies, with all of us assuring her that we donât take it personally. She just had a baby, sheâs allowed to be moody. Besides, the moment someone places River in her arms, it seems like everything is right in her world, and everything is right in our world, too.Â
...Except itâs not. Not entirely.Â
River is happy and healthy. Alodia is getting her strength back. Diego gets rid of the sling, and Mike starts to get around without the walker again. But underneath the surface, there is still trauma. Thereâs still fear.Â
âTheyâre having nightmares,â I tell Lila one morning as weâre preparing breakfast. She pauses for a moment with a knife poised above an orange before swiftly slicing it in half.Â
âIs that so surprising?â she asks. She doesnât look at me as she speaks, but concentrates on making sure the thick, white heart of the orange half in her hand is positioned properly on the cone of the juicer before she presses down and begins to twist. Bright yellow juice splashes down into the container below.Â
âWell, no. But it is sad. Jake and Alodia especially should be concentrating on enjoying their new baby, not having nightmares and worrying about whether Rourkeâs coming back for them.âÂ
Lila pulls the now-deflated orange rind off the cone of the juicer and tosses it on the countertop. Ribbons of tattered orange flesh cling to the inside of the rind. She picks up the other half.Â
â...Do you ever have nightmares from Mr. Rourke?â she asks softly.Â
âOf course,â I reply. âNot as much as before, but I think we all have them sometimes. After what we all went through, I think Iâd be more surprised if any of us didnât.âÂ
The twisting of the orange on the juicer slows just slightly. The toaster pops behind me, and I pluck four pieces of perfectly browned bread from the slots to toss onto a plate.Â
â...I have nightmares, too.âÂ
The butter has been softening on the counter, and my knife slides easily through it. The heat from the toast softens it further, and it spreads cleanly.Â
â...You want to talk about it?âÂ
Lila shakes her head, picking up her knife and another orange. âNo. Not now. They donât really matter anyway. Theyâre about things that happened in the past. Iâm less scared of them than I am of what happens in the future.âÂ
âDo you mean Rourkeâs next move?âÂ
âOf course that scares me. ...But more than that, Iâm scared of him trying to use me against all of you again.âÂ
âWe wonât let that happen, Lila. Youâre safe with us.âÂ
â...But are you safe with me?âÂ
I pause a moment before putting down my knife. I turn to Lila, put one hand on each of her shoulders, and turn her toward me.Â
âLila...look at me. ...Has Rourke approached you at all since youâve been with us again?âÂ
Her eyes widen in what looks like genuine surprise. âWhat? No, I...that isnât what I meant!âÂ
I relax just a little. â...Okay.â I slowly take my hands away from her shoulders. â...Youâd tell me if he had, wouldnât you?âÂ
She nods. âOf course.âÂ
âGood. ...Because if he approaches you again, we can help you. We can help keep you out from under his thumb. ...Weâre not gonna let him just have you back.âÂ
A weak smile lifts the corners of her mouth. âI believe you.â She hastily turns back to the oranges in front of her. âYou should...um...finish buttering before the toast gets cold.âÂ
Overhead, the sharp, piercing cry of an infant rings through the air. I smile. Another morning blending into another day. Itâs not perfect. Weâve got reason to worry. But for now, all is well.Â
Diego
I keep my head down as I move through the halls of my high school, clutching the straps of my worn-out backpack. Itâs the same shabby gray one Iâve been carrying since freshman year. Iâm a junior now, and the corners near the bottom are starting to fray where the sharp corners of paper-bag covered textbooks have dug into them.Â
My stomach growls. I skipped lunch again today. My parents were gone to work early again, and I didnât leave myself enough time to make myself anything this morning. I barely had time to scarf down a banana for breakfast. I didnât have enough cash for a cafeteria lunch, either, and besides, I preferred spending my lunch period playing on the computer in the library to sitting by myself at the end of a table filled with noisy strangers anyway.Â
If I can scrape together enough change from the bottom of my pencil case, I might have enough to get a bag of chips from the vending machine before I have to go to my after school job. But for now, my hunger isnât all that sharp, and I am heading towards English Lit, the only class I currently look forward to.Â
The class is taught by Mr. Hunter. He also teaches the film-making class I want to sign up for next semester. Heâs in his early fifties, and not handsome. He is tall and lanky, with gray-green eyes and a dark helmet of slicked back hair that sits atop a rectangular face. He has one of those mustaches that seemed to be popular in the 1970âs that always make a man look a little sketchy. He wears paisley shirts and slacks, and his voice reminds me of Bert from Sesame Street.
Mr. Hunter is the best teacher Iâve ever had at this school. When we studied Romeo and Juliet, he started off by giving us all a printed-off list of Shakespearean insults. When one girl tried to mumble her way through a line-reading, he shouted, âPut some feeling into it, you saucy wench!âÂ
Mr. Hunter is also gay, and he does not attempt to hide this. When my parents ask about my teachers and which ones I like best, I leave this fact out. If they knew, they would make me switch to another class. Mr. Hunter has a picture of himself with his boyfriend on his desk. Ive seen it when Iâve gone up to hand in assignments. His partner is bald and ruddy-skinned. Heâs not handsome, either, but he has an open, friendly smile. Sometimes, I imagine them kissing. I worry that I have a crush on Mr. Hunter.Â
On the post of every classroom door is a laminated pink triangle, with a message proclaiming that this is a safe space for LGBTQ students. These triangles are mandated by the school district. Not every teacher honors them. One teacher actually tore hers down and refused to put it back up. She was fired. Last year, two girls were voted âCutest Coupleâ in their senior class. I look at the triangles, prominently displayed as I walk into each classroom, and I donât feel particularly safe. I feel safe in Mr. Hunterâs classroom.Â
Inside Mr. Hunterâs classroom, two boys from the football team act out a love poem with one of them in a curly blond wig and the bottom of his shirt tucked into his collar to create a crop top. They end with a flourish, with the boy in the wig jumping into the other boyâs arms and goosing him. Everyone applauds their performance, including Mr. Hunter.Â
Outside Mr. Hunterâs classroom, guys of all stripes growl âfaggotâ in my direction, and even the girls who are nice to me seem pitying more than anything. Thereâs a Pride club that meets after school two days a week, but I donât dare join. Iâm slowly realizing I canât deny the truth anymore, but that doesnât mean I can just announce it to the world.Â
I have just enough change to buy a bag of chips after school. I put it in my backpack as I make my way toward the library where I work for a few hours each day. I see Sam Dzugan eyeing me as I pass through the main doors to the school, and feel dread so familiar that itâs almost dull. Of all the bullies at this school, Sam is the worst. He also knows where I work. If heâs bored and hungry for a power fix tonight, Iâm in for a rough walk home.Â
But he doesnât follow me to work. At the library, I set to work filing back the books from the return cart. As I do, my mind wanders to the same place it always does: Alodia.Â
Alodia. My ideal friend. I conjure up an image of her beside me. She would be pretty, like all the most popular girls at school. I summon a small, pale figure with blonde hair, big blue eyes, and rosy cheeks. I talk with her in my head as I wander the aisles of the library with the return cart. I can picture her cheeky smile as clearly as if she were really beside me. I have spent many years getting the details of her perfect. Early incarnations of her were dark-haired. Green-eyed. Taller. I drew pictures of her. I wrote down her description in a private notebook that I kept under my mattress. But she never felt as real as when I wrote her with golden blonde hair and sapphire eyes.Â
She laughs at all my jokes as I work the rest of my shift. I forgot to eat the chips I bought, and Iâm hungry enough now to start feeling dizzy. ...Alodia would invite me to dinner at her house. A huge, fancy house with a pool, where a chef would have prepared a gourmet meal.Â
âDonât worry about Sam,â she would say. âIf he gives you any trouble, Iâll fight him off.â ...Because Alodia would be fierce. A fighter. Alodia was a hero. A hero who loved me unconditionally.Â
Alodia was never meant to be my lover. I wasnât looking for a lover when I first dreamed Alodia into existence, which is probably why I always imagined her as a girl. I could scarcely imagine having a lover before I had a friend. That was what Alodia was to me. A friend. A friend who would always love me. A friend who I could tell my secrets to without judgment. A friend to fight for me and protect me, who saw value in me, and needed me back.Â
But my friend is a fantasy. And when I leave work and Sam corners me in the encroaching darkness, Alodia vanishesâŚ
...I wake up with a gasp, bolting upright in the darkness of my room. Beside me, Varyyn grunts in his sleep and rolls over, the moonlight reflecting off his blue skin. I stare at his sleeping form for a moment, trying to take stock of myself. Iâm shaking. My pajamas are damp with sweat. I feel cold. I feel sick and empty with fear. I donât exactly remember what I was dreaming about, but one thought keeps echoing in my mind: Allie. I have to find Allie.Â
I slip out of bed as gently as I can while Iâm still trembling. I donât want to wake Varyyn. As I slip into the hall, motion-sensitive lights plugged into the sockets near the floor illuminate my path. My dream is still hazy, but bits and pieces trickle back as I shuffle down the hall with my hand on the wall. I was alone. Allie didnât exist. It was a timeline that I have all but forgotten, and it felt entirely too real.Â
I need to find her. Or at least evidence that she still exists. The door to the nursery is slightly ajar, enough that I can see the soft glow from the lamp on the bedside table. I peek through the crack in the door and relief floods through me. Allie, bundled up in her robe and slippers, sits in the rocking chair with River in her arms, gently rocking back and forth. I exhale slowly. I should go back to bed, but I am not ready to let her out of my sight yet. I start to push open the door. She gasps a little, looking up sharply.Â
âOh, Diego!â She smiles at me, settling back into her chair. âYou startled me.âÂ
âSorry,â I whisper back. â...Did I wake up River?âÂ
âNo. I just fed her, so sheâll probably be out for an hour or two.â She looks up at me as I come to settle into the armchair across from her. â...What are you doing up?âÂ
â...Bad dream,â I admit. â...About...about you. I had to come check on you or I was never going to get back to sleep.âÂ
I half-expect her to joke about me being a creeper watching her while she sleeps, but instead she sighs. â...I kinda know the feeling.âÂ
âYeah. I bet you do.âÂ
âYou wanna stay up with me for awhile?âÂ
âYeah. But I feel like I should be telling you to get some sleep while you can.âÂ
âI probably should be sleeping,â she admits. â...But I donât really want to let her go.âÂ
Thereâs not really much I feel like I need to say to that. I understand. I donât think thereâs anyone in this house who doesnât empathize with that feeling in one way or another. Especially now.Â
â...DiegoâŚ?âÂ
âYeah, Allie?âÂ
For a long moment, she doesnât say anything, though her mouth opens and closes a couple times. Then, she swallows and takes a deep breath.Â
â...I love you. I love you, and I love Jake, and Raj, and all the CatalystsâŚâÂ
âWe love you, too, Allie.âÂ
â...When you imagined me. In that other timeline. When I didnât come to be until the Island...did you ever imagine my future?âÂ
I canât help flinching. Her words feel like a cold pinprick at the top of my spine. â...Allie...I...I donât really remember that timelineâŚâÂ
âI know. I know. But...it happened. It existed. I was once born to be what you needed. What all the Catalysts needed. ...But now...now I have River. Someone new who needs me. She needs me more than any of my Catalysts.âÂ
âI...I think thatâs true,â I say slowly. â...We all love you, and we want you with us. But River is your child. Sheâs helpless and new. She needs your love and your care and your guidance to survive.âÂ
â...Iâm scared, Diego. Iâm scared by how much I love her. Iâm scared by how much she needs me.âÂ
My earlier fear is being replaced with concern that is entirely for my friend. â...Allie...are you okay? Is this some kind of postpartum depression?âÂ
âI donât know what this is, Diego. I know that I love River more than I ever thought I could love anyone alive. I would have torn myself apart for my Catalysts without hesitation. I gave up my existence to give my Catalysts the world. ...But I canât consider that anymore. Because River needs her mother.âÂ
âOh, Allie. Thatâs not a bad thing. None of us want you to tear yourself apart.âÂ
âI know. ...But I am afraid of what happens if the world asks for it. ...If I end up at the Threshold again, or a new RaanâlostiâŚâ She looks up at me. â...Diego...I think I have to face whatâs in the pool shed.âÂ
I feel my blood run cold. I know whatâs in the pool shed. The collection of objects that were left for us in the Crystal dimension when we went to rescue Tahira. IncludingâŚ
â...Are you sure?âÂ
She nods. â...It was left for me to find for a reason. I have to touch the Andromeda idol again.âÂ

summary:Â Maybe, it was the fact that Levi was being a lesser bitch than usual recently, for almost four months actually and hell when he thought about it, Erwin was in fact relatively late to see the signs. But the signs were, to his credit, so transparent no one could blame him for not noticing them any time sooner. Because at first, he had believed that the reason why Levi was acting just a slightly bit kinder towards the people in the office, was perhaps the tea machine he had bought himself which was excellent at steeping tea and good tea always brought his spirits up. But now he suspects the reason might not be something that simple.
AO3
Erwin was quick to catch the signs.
The signs, however, were subtle also as fast to disappear. Like the bubbles on boiling water, there were plenty of them but only if you were observant and in Erwinâs case bored enough to catch them. And he didnât even know if he was interpreting them correctly. Levi was, always had been quite a private man. Despite being friends with him for years there were still times he had to squint to pick up the altering lines of emotions on his face, or times he had to get him drunk for good for Levi to spill out what was bothering him lately. Fortunately, it wasnât that hard to understand that something was in fact bothering himâhe had a habit of being a bigger bitch than he already was at those times.
So maybe, it was the fact that Levi was being a lesser bitch than usual recently, for almost four months actually and hell when he thought about it, Erwin was in fact relatively late to see the signs. But the signs were, to his credit, so transparent no one could blame him for not noticing them any time sooner. Because at first, he had believed that the reason why Levi was acting just a slightly bit kinder towards the people in the office, was perhaps the tea machine he had bought himself, which was excellent at steeping tea and good tea always brought his spirits up. But now he suspects the reason might not be something that simple.
Apart from the tiny change in attitude, the first sign he caught was the umbrella or rather the lack of it.
âMorning,â he greeted as they both stepped inside the elevator. The rain had started simultaneously with the sunrise and hadnât ceased since. It was a heavy one which caused the temperature to decrease a few degrees. And Erwin knew that this kind of weather was not Leviâs favourite. It was like the dark clouds were somehow linked to his mood, he was surprisingly fast to be affected by them, negatively. As an addition, he absolutely loathed being soaked and if he were to forget his umbrella or couldnât find it before leaving the house then it was farewell to serenity for the day.
âMorning,â replied Levi, nodding and stood beside him as he pressed upon the button seven, leaving a drop of water slipping down through the buttons as he retreated his hand. And he combed his wet hair back, then used his hand to wipe the raindrops from his face which⌠didnât work for both his face and his hand were almost equally wet. He mustâve walked the way from home to the subway then the way from the subway to work.
Erwin noticed that he had been staring not very subtly at Levi. âForgot your umbrella again?â He asked, smiling to wipe the stupid look on his face.
Levi threw him a very brief glance and Erwin tensed involuntarily because here came the scolding. He was going to pay back trying to talk to a very soaked and a very grumpy Levi Ackermanâ
âNo.â Erwin blinked because he had actually answered and the tone of his voice was, well not the warmest of voices for sure, but it was at least neutral. âI lent it to a friend.â
âI see,â Erwin nodded, and the elevator stopped after seconds. And it was not until they both left the elevator, walk through the office and he chatted with colleagues on the way to his desk and hung his jacket then his umbrella that he noticedâ
Yesterday, Levi had an umbrella.
It wasnât raining yesterday but the weathercast on their phones was saying that it would start by the time they left work, hence Levi had come prepared, but it hadnât rained. So, if he had lent it to someone it was either after work, which was unlikely, or it was this morning before he left for work.
Which meant, Erwin thought startlingly as he blinked at the soaked cloth of his own umbrella, that someone, his friend whoever they were, possibly had stayed the night. And the thing was just like how it was impossible to stop the raindrops in mid-air by mental force, it was just as unlikely for someone like Levi, who was so strict about his boundaries, and who had extremely firm rules about hygiene, to let a friend stay at his home. He didnât even have that many friends, to begin with. Unless that friend was someone overly special, someone, whom he thought was worth flexing those boundaries. And through their yearsâ worth of friendship, Erwin had never encountered someone as such.
âNo way,â he whispered, amused. He genuinely hoped that he wasnât reading too much into it because Heaven knows he could use some fun especially if it was brought by famous Levi I-feel-nothing- Ackerman.
*
No matter how delightful to think it was, Erwin was not a man to jump to conclusions. The possibility of him making things up was obviously there, solidly. But it wasnât like he was going to give up that easily. Gingerly, while trying hard not to expose himself, he followed the tell-tale hints as much as he could. Hints like him being more laid back, his features being more relaxed replacing the ever-present scowl every now and then. He was also somewhat absent at times and was looking at his phone more frequently than usual.
Levi was a firmly shut chest and not everyone had the key to open him. And contrary to popular belief, he wasnât a mean person per se. He was simply a little cold, distant and didnât like to accept everyone in his life easily. Such demeanour was to be misinterpreted, rightfully so. But Erwin kind of saw it as a defence mechanism, plus for someone like Levi who had a complicated background, it was to be understood. To be honest, he was one of the nicest, tactful and merciful people Erwin had ever met and also the only one who had the ability to masterfully hide that softer side of him.
Yet, as the clues dropped bit by bit Erwin realized that recently he wasnât that good at hiding it.
He was coming back from the kitchen having refilled his cup with fresh coffee just yet when he saw Levi sitting at his desk, his back facing him. Erwinâs desk was the one in front of Leviâs, just behind the divide that separated them. He took a sip from his coffee; the hot liquid burned his tongue, and the stream brushed his cheeks. And just as he lowered the cup and gulped down the coffee in his mouth, realizing that it wasnât actually that fresh, he saw it.
The faint, barely visible, ghost of a smile on Leviâs lips while looking at something on his phone.
Erwin blinked a couple of times to make sure that it wasnât the fog of the coffee that was playing with his vision. Then focused on his friendâs face to get a better look at it. It wasnât like Levi never smiled, he did. Occasionally. But they were generally mocking, or amused, or belittling, and very rarely sneaky smiles. Not like this one which was curling the tips of his mouth upwards in an almost⌠oh, Iâll be damned, Erwin thought but it was clear as day, it was in an almost affectionate way.
As if noticing his shocked gaze, Levi locked his phone and just like that the tiny smile was gone, replaced by the regular scowl and blank stare. Hence, closing his mouth Erwin walked closer and sat down on his desk. Then placing his cup on top of the desk he looked at Mike, who was sitting next to him and was furiously typing on his keyboard. Yet, when he did notice his stare, he threw Erwin a questioning look along with a raised brow. But Erwin simply shook his head and got his attention back to his work.
Not yet.
*
The third and final sign which managed to persuade Erwin at the end was the phone call.
He was about to take a smoke break on the terrace when he saw Levi talking on his phone. Erwin wasnât the type to listen to peopleâs conversations. He had very strict moral rules about the whole respect the privacy issues. But he was extremely bored and getting a little impatient about learning exactly what was going on with Leviâsurely a simple way like directly asking him would solve his problem but he would very likely gain nothing with that. If Levi had wanted, he would have told him months ago.
So, he accidentally happened to eavesdrop on the conversation.
âUse the shower too,â he was saying when Erwin stood behind him near enough to hear but far enough not to be noticed. âI donât want you to get my furniture dirty.â
He couldnât hear what the person on the other end of the line was saying. He eyed Levi who was drawing a breath from his cigarette at the moment and put one between his lips as he watched cautiously. Levi then blew out the smoke and pinched his nose, seemingly irritated. âNo,â he said. âNo, dumbass. How many times do I have to tell you? Put the whites and blacks separately. Or best, donât even touch the laundry. Youâll mess up my shirts.â
He tapped the end of his cigarette with his index finger causing the ashes to fly away with the wind. He listened to what they were saying for a while, drawing one or two breaths from the smoke he placed on his mouth. And when he turned his head a little to the side, Erwin saw that tiny, barely visible smile on his lips again. âDo it if you think you can. Just donât burn my kitchen.â
Miracle. Had someone cast a spell upon him? He was offering his shower, his kitchen and almost his laundry to someone who was clearly not an expert on any of these things.
âAlright,â he said pressing the butt of the cigarette on the metal trash bin near him. âWill you stay the night?â
Erwin felt his brows shot upwards upon his question and he watched with even more shock the blush, the knots of red appearing on his cheeks. Blush! Had he accidentally stepped into an alternate reality?
âDumbass,â he said once more, and Erwin caught it in his tone this time. Affection. âStay. Iâll see you in a few hours.â
Only when Levi left the terrace without even a glance at Erwin and the trace of the smile still more or less evident on his lips, Erwin realized that he had forgotten to light up his cigarette.
Erwin didnât really like gossip. He usually saw it as a waste of time, and he was too busy to involve in such dialogues anyway. So, he made sure to stay clear from the drama as much as he could.
But this time it was different.
He blamed it on the brain-numbing, boring texts that he had to redact and edit, and do the same each day to the texts which so very rarely changed in context. Boredom, he declared, was the perpetrator of his actions.
âMike,â he whispered during the lunch break. Levi had left alone, saying that he had other things to do. âHey.â
âWhat?â Mike asked, not taking his eyes away from the screen of his phone, locked on the game he was playing.
âI think,â Erwin started, checking his surroundings to make sure no one was near them. âI think Levi is seeing someone.â
Mikeâs fingers on the screen froze and his eyes slowly travelled from his phone to Erwin. It lasted merely a couple of seconds for him to snatch the air pod from his ear, pause the game and move his chair closer to him. âTell me more.â
And so, Erwin did. He told him about the lent umbrella, the affectionate smile, the little hints he picked up and finally the phone call he had just witnessed. Mike listened to him, humming and caressing his beard with his hand thoughtfully.
âWhat do you think?â Erwin asked, wondering if Mike had taken the same impressions as him or it was just Erwin who was actually reading too much into things because of the boring office life he had.
Mike hummed again, bending his lips down and squinting. âYou said you saw him smiling affectionately?â
âYes.â
âWas it creepy?â
âWell, no. Not really.â
âThat should mean something, man,â Mike said. âMaybe he brought a cat?â
âHe cannot possibly talk to a cat on the phone, Mikeâ Erwin pointed out. âAnd lend it his umbrella.â
Mike nodded, agreeing. Erwin rolled his eyes. It wasnât his fault that he had no one else to gossip about Levi. âWho could they be then?â He asked. âDo you think we know them?â
Erwin shook his head. He couldnât think of anyone Levi would be interested in. He never properly talked to the people in the office in the first place. âI donât know.â
âWe should find out,â Mike sounded excited as he said so and Erwin relaxed upon realizing that obviously, his interpretations were not that far-fetched.
âHow?â To be frank, he too was very curious about the identity of the person who somehow managed to bring the softer side of Levi out in the daylight. Then, putting his more rational part into action, he said, âWe can just ask him though.â
âBut whereâs the fun in that, Erwin?â Mike laid his head backwards and threw him a very disappointed stare. âWe need some action and some movement here. Iâm selling my soul to this computer every day in exchange for very little money. Also,â he raised a finger, eyes illuminating playfully. âMan, what if he is in love? Hilarious.â
âHe is not a robot, you know,â Erwin said, feeling the need to defend his friend.
Mike shrugged and leaned back, turning himself left and right on his seat, lost in thought. âA wedding would do,â he murmured to himself then snapped his fingers. âNile!â
âWhat about him?â
âHe is getting married this weekend?â He raised his brows at Erwin like he couldnât believe how he forgot the fact that their old friend was getting married to his very first love.
âYeah,â Erwin nodded, stopping himself from wrinkling his face as if he tasted something sour in his mouth. âRight.â
Mike put his elbow on his desk and rested his chin on his palm, watching him. âYou plan on coming?â
âSure.â Marie was a rusty and old memory he had left in the past which he would cherish for the rest of his life. But no matter the history he was happy for them both.
âIf Levi comes, he might bring the mysterious significant other too, donât you think?â
Erwin hummed, not a bad idea. âYeah, actually.â
Mike grinned and stretched his long arms above his head. âLetâs wait and see.â
*
Levi came to the wedding alone.
Mike and Erwin silently exchanged glances between each other throughout the ceremony but didnât dare to talk about it out loud. Levi was most of the time busy with his phone, typing. And when he wasnât they chatted among themselves about work, finance, politics and sports but it never came to anything about the significant others which the two men obviously didnât have.
Towards the end of the night, after bidding their farewell and congrats to the happy couple Mike offered to go to a bar to have a couple of drinks. Erwin accepted as he had nothing better to do anyway other than maybe starting The Office all over again. He seriously needed something that wouldnât make him remember his work.
To their surprise, Levi accepted the offer too. And an even bigger surprise came after when the three of them got into Mikeâs car to get to the place he had been nagging them about. âA friend of mine might join us later,â he said. âWould that be a problem?â
A quick, excited and wide-eyed exchange of looks with Mike later, Erwin replied, âWhy would it be a problem?â He smiled at Levi who was sitting in the back seat.
âIt would be great!â Mike exclaimed, and Erwin glared at him, warning. âDo we know them?â
âNo, you donât,â Levi replied curtly. And that was the end of the conversation.
The place Mike took them was freshly opened, clean and not so crowded. They settled on a seat near the window, ordering their drinks. Erwin could tell from the way Levi traced his eyes around the bright floors, polished marbles, and the altering lights that he had liked it.
âSo, who is that friend of yours?â Mike asked, his eyes following Levi like a lion slowly getting closer to its prey.
âYouâll find out when she comes here,â came the brief and clear reply. Leviâs eyes were sharp as if indicating that he wouldnât fall for any of his wordplays.
âYouâre no fun,â Mike muttered with dismay as he raised his glass to his lips.
âAsk me if I care.â
âDo you?â Mike asked with an annoying smirk.
âFuck off.â
âSorry, Iâm late!â A loud, cheerful voice interrupted their bickering. Then a slender, brown-haired woman sat down next to Levi. There was a smile blindingly wide on her lips, oval-shaped frameless glasses were a little slipped down on her nose, and the eyes behind the lenses were a light shade of brown, almost hazel. Her hair was sloppily tied, and the strands that covered her face looked smooth.
And under the curious gazes of the two men, she leaned forward to leave a peck on Leviâs cheek.
Levi coughed and flushed, then tried to hide it behind his glass, taking a long sip from his drink. âThis is Hanji,â he said after putting the glass down on the table, but he had failed at wiping the redness away from his cheeks. âHanji, this is Erwin and Mike. My co-workers.â
âHanji Zoe,â she beamed at them as she extended her hand to shake their hands. âLevi told me a lot about you.â
âOh?â Erwin couldnât help but be somewhat taken aback.
âWell, on the contrary,â Mike spoke up, voicing Erwinâs confusion. âHe never told us about you.â
Hanji glanced at Levi who raised a brow at them. âYou never asked.â
Wait. Was it really that simple? Seriously? After all the detective work he had done and the passion he had put into it. âYou wouldâve told us?â
âWhy wouldnât I?â
âItâs kind of new anyway,â Hanji said, wrapping an arm around Leviâs shoulders. Erwin noticed the slope of Leviâs body against Hanjiâs as if he were gravitating towards her. âWeâre still trying to get used to it.â
The body language told a lot, Erwin observed. âSeems like you already have,â he blurted and when he realized what he had said the words were already out and heard.
Thankfully, Hanji didnât seem to have found his statement absurd. âOh, you think so?â she giggled, and her cheeks coloured as she directed her eyes at Levi. And she hummed softly when their gazes locked. âMaybe.â
Her lips remained curled upwards on the corners, and Erwin couldnât see the expression in both of their eyes and neither of them spoke, but he felt like words wouldnât suffice for whatever had been exchanged between them in those short seconds. He watched as Leviâs lips tremble and move, shaping a smile that was so small and so barely apparent. Then he contemplated about how easy it was actually to see happiness in someone who very rarely let his emotions surface. Like dandelions emerging on their own through the mere lawn, right next to the concrete pavements.
âI kind of think itâs creepy though,â Mike whispered, leaning against him.
Erwin snorted amused and finished his drink.

Prompts:
Y/N and Bucky have never got along and are always bickering. One day, he decides to prank her by changing all of her lace underwear to briefs with his face all over them.
Bucky has a date tonight and reader changes all of his boxers to âPardon My Hardonâ boxers.
The boxers:
âYouâre putting way too much milk on your cereal, doll.â Bucky elbowed you, almost knocking you off the stool and spilling the milk everywhere.
âFuck off and mind your own business.â You gritted through your teeth, wanting to knock that smug grin off his stupid face.Â
âAh, young love.â Sam teased as he walked casually into the kitchen that was thick with sexual tension, no thanks to you and Barnes. You shot him a glare, pouring your milk carelessly over your cereal.
âY/N seriously, fucking leave some milk for the rest of us!â Bucky warned, reaching over and snatching the bottle from your hand.
âStop being up my ass all the damn time Barnes.â You said, scooping some cereal up on a spoon and shoveling it into your mouth. âIf you want me to fuck you up the ass doll, all you gotta do is ask.âÂ
âIâm out!â Sam announced, grabbing an orange and leaving quickly, leaving just you and Bucky alone in the kitchen which was always a very bad idea since you didnât get along with the man.Â
Youâre not really sure why, ever since he came to the compound, he acted cold and distant with you despite your warm welcoming and months later, he became the biggest dick.Â
âI wouldnât fuck you if you were the last man on earth.â You argued, loved pushing his squishy buttons. Despite him being an enormous asshole, he was so easy to piss off and you loved it.
âHypothetical question, why?â Bucky pressed, taking a seat next to you and watched in amusement as you kept on shoveling the cereal in your mouth.Â
âWell first of all; youâre always sweaty and disgusting and I imagine you grunt a fucking lot. And secondly; I repeat my first point. Thirdly; Iâm best friends with my vibrator that always lets me cum first. Something I donât see you doing.âÂ
âAww, you jealous doll âcause you donât have a man to know, lick you and fuck you into the mattress?â Bucky smirked, leaning his forearms on the counter.
âJealous? HA. I actually feel quite sorry for any poor woman underneath you as you drip your disgusting sweat on her face. Iâm GRATEFUL for that. Besides, wouldnât want your dentures to fall out as you sucked the life out of me, plus, Iâm a really nice person, now please, fuck off and have a great day.âÂ
âWhatever you say, doll.â Bucky chuckled, drawing the pet name out since he knew how much it annoyed you. He was getting up to leave and missed the spoon being launched at his head by seconds.Â
âSergeant Barnes?â The AI beeped as Bucky walked into the common room.Â
âWhat is it, FRIDAY?â Bucky asked, looking up in the air.Â
âA parcel has arrived and Mr Stark has left it in your room, sir.âÂ
Bucky laughed knowing exactly what the parcel was, and it was all planned perfectly since you would be out of the compound most of today.Â
Bucky hurried back to his room and unpacked the parcel that was sitting on his bed, he cut the tape and laughed maniacally as he pulled the new custom ordered underwear out of the box. He spent hundreds of dollars on this and it had to go right.Â
He put a few hundred into a separate bag and hid the box in his closet in case someone decided to barge in like they normally did. Bucky exited his bedroom, walking down to the other end of the hall where your room was, just as he was about to go in, you came out.
âWhat?â You asked confused, putting your keys and phone in your pocket.Â
âI was- I thought you were out?â Bucky stammered, subtly moving the bag of underwear behind his back so you couldnât get a peek.Â
âGod, what are you, my husband? If you really must know, Iâm just leaving so leave your testicles in your pants and stay out of my room. I remember what you did last time and I donât want another cleaning bill.âÂ
âYes maâam.â Bucky saluted. He was amused you didnât even wonder why he was outside your door, or maybe you did and just didnât care since Bucky always did go out of his way to annoy the fuck of you. Him being there was nothing to you.
While Bucky sneaked into your room, you had your own secret meeting with a friend in Brooklyn. You knew Bucky had a date tonight, because heâs talked about it non stop since last week and since he embarrassed you on your last date, you figured a little paycheck was overdue. Your friend had ordered you over 300 pairs of boxers. Boxers you were planning to plant in Buckyâs dresser so his date could freak the hell out.Â
You were an observant person, and his sweatpants never hid anything that great. The man constantly walked around with a boner, it was so obvious so these boxers were true, but you know, they would excuse it for him when his date sees him. You couldnât wait to see the look on his face.Â
Bucky pulled all your lace panties out and threw him carelessly onto your bed, including your bras. He unpacked the new briefs and folded them neatly into the top two drawers of your dresser, snickering as he saw the print on them. It was probably quite a childish prank, but he was sure youâd get a kick out of it.
Once Bucky was done, he put your laced panties in the bag he brought with him and left your room undisturbed and went back to his to hide the panties and meet Steve at the bar for a few beers.Â
You actually passed Bucky in the lobby, just as he stepped out, you were about to step in. He noticed a box in your hands, around the same size as the one he had delivered and snickered. How ironic would it be if you pranked with him the same underwear.Â
âWhatcha got there dollface?â Bucky purred, adjusting his leather jacket. You couldnât deny he looked smoking hot in his black outfit. âMore dildos?â He teased.
You snickered and stepped into the elevator. âWhy? Jealous they might be bigger than you Barnes?â You cackled, pressing the button to your.Â
âSTAY OUT OF MY ROOM!â You heard him yell just as the doors closed.Â
If anyone was to blame for this prank, it would be Bucky for leaving his damn door unlocked and making it too easy. You had no problem breaking into his room and removing his tattered and worn boxers, some with holes where the wiener would be, why he had a fucking hole there was anyoneâs guess, youâd like to think it was because he probably rubbed one out every time he was alone in this room.Â
You replaced his ragged old boxers with some lovely new ones. They were red with a black waistband. The imprint on the front where his bulge would be read âPardon My Hardon.â To now, you cackled like crazy every time you read it. You could imagine the look on his face, and also his dateâs face.Â
Apparently, he was hoping to get lucky tonight. With these boxers, thatâs not gonna happen. This was their first date after all. Once you hid his old boxers under the bed, you proceeded with the second part of your plan to make sure he would wear these and not notice them; remove all lightbulbs from his room. You paid Tony in good faith to cut the electricity for tonight when Bucky would be in his room changing anyway, but to be sure Tony didnât follow through on his promise for some reason, you needed to remove the lights just in case.Â
You clapped your hands when you got the last light bulb out, also throwing them under his bed and left his room undisturbed.Â
Now you just had to wait.
***
Bucky returned back to the compound around 8 p.m and already it was dark outside. The heavy rain clouds that lingered over NYC ended daylight quicker than expected. To make matters worse, the storm had cut electricity out in the compound. Candles were lit everywhere, except for Buckyâs room since he just needed a quick wash and change of clothes. His eyes had never let him down before and he knew his room like the back of his hand.Â
He closed the curtains in his room and walked into the bathroom, washing his face and hands and patting himself dry with a towel he felt around for.Â
Bucky could hear the distinctive chatter from his teammates down the hall as they sat in the common room talking about the storm. Thunder and lightning came suddenly and the rain pelted against the floor-to-window panes. This storm came suspiciously quickly. Considering he was aware Thor was in town.
But these thoughts never really crossed his mind and he didnât piece it together. He was thinking about Dot and his date tonight. He whipped his black jeans off along with his boxers, opening the drawer, he felt around for a pair and grabbed them.
His fingertips traced along the waistband until he felt the silk label and slipped into them. They felt a little tighter than usual, but Bucky had been working on beefing up again.Â
Bucky reached into his closet and pulled a clean pair of jeans off the hanger and slipped them on. He next removed his shirt and picked a button up off the hanger on the other side of the closet. When he was dressed and happy, he sprayed some cologne around his throat and neck, picked up his leather jacket off the bed and left his room.Â
He walked a little down the hall when your door suddenly ripped open, scaring the shit out of him. He stumbled and put his hand over his heart.
âDid you seriously fucking change my underwear to your stupid face?!â You gritted through your teeth.Â
âI did.â He shrugged, smirking as he now leaned against the doorframe. âNow you will always have me between your legs, doll.â Bucky teased, licking his dry lips.Â
You huffed out a laugh and shook your head. Youâd never tell him, but you actually really liked the briefs. They were exceptionally comfortable and you find them funny. You couldnât imagine the look on a manâs face though as he peeled them off you.
âYou have a date tonight right?â You questioned, the candlelight behind you just about makes out his features.Â
âI do, so no need to wait up. Iâll leave some earplugs in the common room so we donât keep you awake.âÂ
You laughed, there was no way he was getting any tonight with those boxers he was most likely wearing.Â
âEnjoy the *squeak, squeak, squeak*â You teased, imitating his squeaky mattress that you heard often.
âEnjoy your vibrators that you had delivered today.â He retorted. You snorted and retreated back into your room, slamming the door unintentionally in his face.
***
You didnât know what time it was when you fell asleep. Once Bucky had left earlier, you found Tony and Thor and thanked them with a hug each for their part in your plan. Letâs face it, without them, this wouldnât have worked. But it seemed you were right and Bucky really was that naive.Â
Youâre not sure what woke you up either, you thought you heard a knock on your door but it must have been in your dream. You rolled onto your back and stretched, putting your arm under your pillow, you just started to doze off again when the knock came louder this time.Â
You glared towards the door, rolling over to flick a lamp on and dragged yourself from the comfort of your bed towards it. You opened the door and on the other side stood a rather tired and unamused Bucky Barnes.Â
âBarnes? Are you lost, youâre room is down the hall on-â
âWhat the fuck did you do to my boxers?â He seethed, his jaw and fists clenched. You rubbed your eyes and chuckled, angering Bucky more.Â
âOh, you saw them.â Is all you said, his eyes flickering down to his custom briefs. He couldnât help but become aroused when he saw a slight wet spot and your nipples tenting underneath your tank top.Â
âNo, Dot saw them and she was fucking horrified!âÂ
âPoor Dot. You know, they are really funny and Iâm sorry but if she couldnât take the joke then maybe she isnât the one for you.â You stated, folding your arms across your chest and resting them under your breasts, the swells of your breasts now threatening to spill out.Â
Bucky said nothing as he took a step towards you. You remained still in your place, his breath fanned over your face.Â
âMaybe youâre right. Maybe then I donât want another man between your legs, on briefs or otherwise.â Bucky sighed. Your arms dropped down by your side and Bucky took the opportunity to reach out and take on, guiding it to his hard bulge. Your hand squeezed him and he moaned quietly.Â
âIf you want this, if you really want me, then I suggest you get in here and get your face between my legs for real.âÂ
âIf I knew planting briefs with my face on them would make me fuck you, Iâd have done it months ago.â Bucky chuckled, his hands on your waist as he walked you backwards. He kicked the door closed with his foot, guiding you two back towards the bed until your knees hit the side of the mattress. Bucky kneeled on the floor before you, his fingers hovering on the waistband of the briefs.Â
âAre you sure?â Bucky asked, needing to hear you say it. âI know we hate each-â
âI donât hate you. And Iâm sure. PleaseâŚâÂ
âGood, me neither. Once I start, Iâm not gonna be able to stop.â
âThen donât stop.â Thatâs all Bucky needed to hear. Once those words left your lips, your briefs were ripped from your body and your legs thrown over his broad shoulders. His tongue diving in between your seeping folds.

an: commissioned story
Walking up the stairs to your best friendsâ apartment, you hang your cape over your shoulder, defeated. Waiting patiently as Namjoon unlocked the front door, Jungkook shuffled side to side, just as upset as you, the evidence written across his face. His signature bunny smile, nowhere to be found, was replaced with a pout fixed on his face as he followed you into the apartment while Namjoon struggled to get the key back out of the golden deadbolt lock.
The sound of shoes being slipped off filled the silence along with jangling keys and the low murmur of curses followed by a soft exclamation of joy as Namjoon shut the door.
âIâm sorry babe. I didnât know it was cancelled. I didnât check my email before we left...â
You tossed your purple cape over the couch and got comfy in your favorite spot. Tucked into the left corner of the couch, your sheer pantyhose legs crossed, you dropped your head onto the back rest of the couch and attempted to look at Namjoon still in the entryway. Dressed up as Thor, his arms flexed nicely as you watched him put his shoes on the rack by the door, grown out blond hair falling in his face.
âJoonie, itâs fine. I donât blame you. Iâm just sad we didnât get to show off our hard work.â You gesture at your outfit, Raven from Teen Titans, and shrugged. Left in just the black long sleeved leotard and hosiery, you sigh.Â
âPoor Kookie here has been doing pushups and crunches for the past two weeks so that he could pull off a gladiator from 300.â You turned your gaze to Jungkook, perched on the barstool next to the kitchen counter, elbow braced on the table to hold his head up as he sulked. âNice job by the way, you got a lot of looks when we were walking up to the convention center.â
He laughed, shameless as always when showing off his beautifully built frame.
âHey, I think the woman with the baby stroller really enjoyed the view.â
âI would hope so, she damn near tripped over her own child breaking her neck to stare.â
You lean up as Namjoon makes his way over to the couch, your eyes following the way his well-built body moves in the ludicrously tight Thor outfit.Â
âWhat can we do to make it up to you? We rarely get a day off like this, all together.â
He was right. Adulting had made the time spent with your best friends almost nonexistent. Attempts to hang out, all three of you, rarely went off without a hitch; with Namjoon receiving calls from the office about accounts in progress, or Jungkook having to go in to work with the local sports team as their trainer during both on and off seasons, and you working your 9 to 5. It was stressful.
âHonestly, just spending time with you guys is all I need.âÂ
Namjoon lifted your legs to sit next to you, placing them in his lap as Jungkook jumped up and grabbed a dusty, small box off the living room bookshelf. An old deck of Uno cards that you all used to stay up late and play in college is tossed onto the coffee table while Jungkookâs feet carried him to the kitchen, where he grabbed a few beers.
âFor old timeâs sake?â
ââââââ
Uno had turned into Strip Uno quickly, once you all were a few beers deep. The opaque green glass bottles were set off to the side of the coffee table as the three of you sat around, tipsy and half naked, laughing at each other.Â
Jungkook had been the first one to lose an article of clothing, his Leonidas style crown tossed on the other side of the couch with Namjoonâs discarded cape. Namjoon followed suit with his costume shirt being next to disappear from his body. The malesâ losing streak ended when you were the unlucky one to lose a large item, your black leotard. It wasnât long before Jungkook, who had already been shirtless, had lost his roman gladiator skort, and Namjoonâs pants made it onto the clothing pile, leaving the three of you sitting comfortably in half-nakedness.
âGod, I canât believe we used to really trade girls back and forth, hyung.â Jungkook was laughing as he remembered some of their crazier antics, which you knew all about as their best friend. Youâd even walked into some compromising situations once or twice, and saw exactly what each of them was working with below the belt.
âI can, man, we were insatiable. Fuck, we still are Kook, donât act like just because weâre working now crazy shit still doesnât happen.â
Namjoonâs eyes were low, the alcohol in his system making him feel nice.
âYouâre right,â Jungkook giggled, face red from intoxication, âjust way less often. Itâs been what? 4 months or so? We need to throw a party or something.â
âYou guys are just as bad as you were in college.â You say, leaning back into the couch behind you. None of you had moved from the floor where you had sat around the table to play Uno.
âOh, right. I forgot that you were our âgoody two shoesâ girl. Never did anything wrong...â Namjoon tried to roll his eyes, but the half-moon shape barely showed the whites of his eyes.
âThatâs not true⌠I was just way better at being discreet. It wasnât the campusâ business who I let between my legs.âÂ
âWe played ânever have I everâ so many times, though⌠You never did anything bad.â Jungkook pouted at you, thinking you were lying to him. In reality, you lied back then. It wasnât anyoneâs business and you werenât going to expose othersâ sex lives just for some drinking game.
âI did, I just didnât put a finger down,â you laughed. âI still drank what I was supposed to, I just didnât want to be questioned about my threesomes and shit.â
Namjoon couldnât believe what he heard. You, his precious best female friend, had a threesome before. The air in the room shifts, the tension palpable in the room.
âNo, not my YN. Youâre the good one.â Namjoon stated jokingly, though you could sense he was still serious.
âI need the details, YN.â Jungkook stared at you, eyes steady as he pinned you with his gaze.
His look is full of desire, and you can see him move ever so slightly as if he was uncomfortable. Jungkookâs hand moves to cover his hardening cock, but not before you can see that it was exactly what was making him so uncomfortable in his boxer briefs.Â
âIt was nothing wild, Koo. We were drunk, it was college, one of them, the girl, said that getting eaten out feels better by a woman, the other said no way and said he was the best ever to do it, so I volunteered to test out their theory and draw an end to the pissing contest.âÂ
You chuckled to yourself as you remembered how much fun it was. The memory turned you on slightly; you can feel your arousal drip onto your thong.
âSo who was better?â
âShe was, definitely.â
Namjoon shakes his head and Jungkook leans back, incredulous. Both had leaned in towards you as you told the short story, falling on every word that you said.
âPfft! No way, I could totally out-do the chick.â
âSame. He didnât know what he was doing, clearly.â
You shifted your body to get more comfortable, sitting with your knees bent and spread open in an L shape as you leaned back against the seat of the couch. You may have been curvy, but you were comfortable around Jungkook and Namjoon as they had known you for so long and seen you in various stages of undress, sobriety, and moods.
âI mean, we can always test it out.â You gesture your arm out at the 2 of them, resting your forearm on the knee that is bent up to the sky.
Itâs silent, deadly, as they stare at you. Jungkookâs eyes roam your body that is on display for him, instinctively licking his lips. Namjoon, who was still leaned towards you, gives a smirk that has you⌠excited.
âBaby, you couldnât handle me.â
âAwe, Joonie, itâs cute that you think so.â
âIâd be better at it anyways.â Jungkook chimed in. That cocky confidence oozing over him as he mimics your pose, though leaning back on his palm, arm extended to share part of his weight.
âMmm.. I donât know Kookie, I think Namjoon has been at it a little longer than you, plus, no offense, but he has fuller lips...â You turn away from Jungkookâs pout toward Namjoon, whoâs still got that damn smirk on his face.
He moved forward, practically stalking on his hands and knees as he brings himself into your personal space. You watch the way his chest and arms flex, mouth practically drooling at the sight.
âYou've been sizing me up, baby?â His voice is low, deeper as he let his hunger for you show. His hand slides along your hip, fingers curling gently around you. âYou think about how good it would feel, my tongue between your legs?â
Heâs surprised that you didnât pull away. When you reached up and grabbed a handful of his blond locks and tugged, you reveled in the low groan he let out, eyes fixated on his quivering Adamâs apple as the sinful sound reverberated throughout the apartment.
âDamnââ your eyes snapped to Jungkook, whose pupils had dilated as he watched the interaction between you and his hyung. His mouth hung open; he hadnât realized he had verbalized his thoughts.
âEverything okay, bun?â you asked, using Jungkookâs pet name that you loved to use when teasing him.
He cleared his throat, his hand stroking gently at his clothed cock, trying to ease the ache.
âYeahâplease, continue.â
You realized he was addressing Namjoon when you felt his parted lips skim across your neck, soft and wet as his tongue joined. Latching on gently, you rolled your head back allowing him more access as you yourself were now the one affected, moaning breathily as his solid frame hovered over you, pressing you back into the couch. You tightened your grip on his hair, and he bit your neck a little harder in response.Â
Eyes fluttered closed, you felt a second set of hands on you, palms sliding along the pantyhose that still covered your legs.Â
âI know youâve thought about this...â Jungkookâs lips moved along your tummy as he talked, small kisses along the waistband of your hosiery. âCan practically feel how badly you want this.âÂ
His fingers dipped into your band and began to tug them down, freeing your thighs from their confines. You arched your back, unable to not react as he mouthed loudly at your clothed core, his tongue flicking against the cotton to trace the outline of your needy clit as he groaned with the inhale of your arousal.
Namjoon on the other hand was quieter, mouth busy sucking light bruises to your skin as his large hands palmed your ample breasts. As he kissed down your neck and collar bone, he pulled one mound from your bra, laving his tongue around your aroused nipple to pull sounds out of you.Â
So enthralled in the feel of Namjoon, you donât notice that Jungkook has you stripped bare, not until heâs nudged your thighs apart and settled himself between, a trail of wet kisses along your inner thigh almost unnoticed due to the amount of pleasure youâre feelingâthat is until his lips latched onto your clit, a combined sucking motion with a flicking tongue, made your free hand dive into his mess of dark strands, directing his ministrations.
âFuck, Jungkook, d-donât stop.â
Namjoon moved to be behind you, replacing the couch as your backing as Jungkook circled his arms around your thighs and pulled you down closer to his feasting mouth. Namjoon began to kiss at your neck, hands resumed their massaging of your chest, nipples rolling between his fingers as you held Jungkookâs head so you could roll your hips, fucking yourself on his tongue.Â
Feeling it build, the delightful coiling in your abdomen snaps when Jungkook enters you with a thrust of his two fingers and strokes roughly along your walls, brushing the rough patch of bundled nerves. You cry out, head thrown back onto Namjoonâs shoulder as you buck, hips rolling as you ride out your high on Jungkookâs face.
âDefinitely think that I was better than that girl, huh, angel?â
You nod, never one to lie about how good or bad someone is sexually.Â
âYou let me have the control to fuck your face, it was amazing.â You tell him, your chest rapidly moving as you attempted to regulate your breathing.
âMy turn.â
You feel more than see Namjoon switch places with Jungkook, maneuvering your body to a more comfortable position. Jungkookâs cock, hard and erect, is now pressed between your back and his abs when you leaned back onto him.
âOh, he left you such a mess, baby.â Namjoon licks a stripe along your swollen clit, lapping at the juices. Youâre still sensitive, but he pushed your thighs apart so his large hands could hold you in place as he slowly teased at your folds until you felt yourself leaning into it, wanting more instead of squirming away.Â
âRight there Joonieâshit, that feelsâoh!âÂ
Namjoonâs thumb rubbed wet circles on your swollen nub as his tongue explored every inch of you, teasing and tasting. Jungkook held you tight in his embrace, preventing you from running now that you could feel your second orgasm building.Â
To make your judgement fair, Jungkookâs lips and hands touched your body where he could reach, knowing that Namjoonâs ministrations had added to your heightened senses when it had been him gracing the spot between your thighs.Â
Namjoonâs nose pressed against your clit as he open-mouth kissed your heat, devouring as much as he could of your release before you replaced what he had cleaned up. You could feel the growing orgasm spreading through your veins, the thrum of your beating heart loud in your ears until Namjoon inserted his fingers. The squelching sound as your walls sucked his first two fingers into you caused both men to groan, the vibrations of the one feasting leading you to arch your back into Jungkookâs chest. Toes curling, your mouth is open as you try and catch your breath, but Namjoon did the same move as Jungkook and you squirmed as it consumed you, a crackling of electricity taking over your senses.
Sitting up, Namjoon grinned over your shoulder, knowing that the move his younger roommate taught him all those years ago never fails.
âI would say that makes it 1 for Jungkook, 1 for Namjoon, as we now hold the title âbetter than the girl who rocked your worldâ, right JK? Our good girl is finally enjoying being bad.â
Namjoonâs chin and lips were slicked with your cum, and you nodded, still a little fucked out as you came down.
âDamn, I wonder what prize we should get?â
Lifting an eyebrow, you sat up off Jungkook's chest, propelling yourself forward until you were on your hands and knees, eye level with Namjoonâs obvious hard-on. Licking your lips, his eyes followed the movement. He watched your every move as you leaned down, opened your mouth slowly, and lowered your tongue to the fabric covering his erection. You hear Jungkook inhale at the view you provide, sopping cunt on display.
âMmph.. shit, baby.â Namjoonâs cock twitches as your mouth, hot and wet, teases his most sensitive area, and when he lifts his hips slightly, chasing as you pull away, you decide to show him exactly how much you enjoy being bad.
Your hands have pulled his boxer briefs down and the bulbous tip has entered your mouth before he was able to see the glint in your eye. Taking him into your mouth fully, he let out a sound you never thought youâd hear from him, a loud moan higher than his usual tone and accompanied with movement from his hips as he thrust up. Spit from your mouth dripped down his shaft as you pulled back.Â
You heard Jungkook mutter a curse as your hips swayed seductively in his face, and you removed your lips off of Namjoon with a wet pop sound, replacing your mouth with your hand as you stroked his length. Turning your head to peek over your shoulder, you follow Jungkookâs gaze, smirking.
âHey Bun, you gonna stare at it all night, or are you going to fill me up?â
You giggled as he scrambled up onto his knees, his hands tugging at his underwear to free himself from the restraining fabric. You grasp Namjoonâs thighs before you lower yourself again, the thrust of Jungkook entering you from behind pushing you farther onto Namjoonâs cock. The moan vibrates along his shaft, and Namjoonâs toes curl as you swallow around him, tongue tracing the thick vein.
âFuck, youâre so wet...â Jungkookâs voice, melodious as he vocalizes with each thrust, causes you to clench involuntarily as he splits you. The burn from the stretch feels good, so good, and you push back onto him, fucking yourself as his hands hold onto your curves.Â
âHer mouth⌠Jungkook, her mouth isââ you hollow your cheeks as you vacillate up and down, and Namjoon can no longer form words. His hands cup your face as he watches you worship him, oblivious to the words of praise Jungkook is saying.
âYN, fuck baby, your pussy is squeezing me so tight⌠You take my cock so well, better than I dreamed of.â
The spit that had gathered in your mouth dripped down and as you massaged Namjoonâs balls, the spit added to his pleasure. You felt them constrict in your hands, his cock twitching as your first warning.
âBaby, Iââ you nod, knowing what he wants to say, and the action made him squeeze his whiskey colored eyes shut before he came, ropes of hot cum filling your mouth. Once he opened his eyes again, you made eye contact, pulling off of him and opening your mouth so Namjoon could see the translucent coating on your tongue before you swallowed it.Â
âShit.âÂ
His dilated pupils watched as you continued to use Jungkook to massage your g-spot, impaling yourself on him while you used a free hand to massage at your clit. Your third orgasm was a little harder to come by, not without a little help, so you told Jungkook what you needed.
âChoke me.â
You couldnât see the way his doe eyes grew unimaginably wider as he maneuvered his right hand to grip your throat and apply just the right amount of pressure, allowing you to ascend towards climax. You fucked him harder, ass slapping against his thighs harshly. He released your throat, both hands firmly grasping your hips. A slap to your ass from Jungkookâs hand spurred your words.
âCum in me Kookie, fill me like Joon didââ
âAh, fuck, Iâm cummââ
When your walls fluttered, Jungkook groaned and immersed himself as deep into your dripping core as he could so he could fill you as you gushed your arousal around him, juices mingling as you collapsed onto the carpet, Jungkookâs softening dick slipping from inside you as he moved to lay next to you.
Panting, you rolled onto your back, head on Namjoonâs thigh as you waited for your breathing to settle. Jungkook was already smiling and looking none the worse for wear, physically. He moved to lay his head on your tummy, an arm thrown over your body while Namjoonâs hand smoothed the hair away from your face.
âI think thatâs⌠2 for me,â you say, âand 1 for each of you.âÂ
Both men look at you in awe as you finish speaking, â...so what were you saying earlier about me being your âgood girlâ?â

Title: Death Pact - Dallas Winston One Shot
Warnings: Death, Suicide and Mentions Of Abuse
Word Count: 2,189
Everything went in slow motion as Dallas raised his unloaded heater, an idiot that kid was, they donât know heâs bluffing. As the bullets from the surrounding police officers made their impact, memories of the years spent by Dallasâ side flashed before my very eyes, years of love, adoration, thrills, adventures and memories all gone within the blink of an eye.
âYeah, you, Johnny and Ponyboy are all seen as heroâs nowâ I spoke, walking over to sit on the side of his hospital bed looking over at Tim for a moment before looking back at Dallas. Dallas looked annoyed hearing himself being called a hero, he muttered a few incoherent things under his breath, most likely curses on how he was anything but a hero.
âAny word on when they are going to let you out?â Tim asked, thinking of tonight being the rumble, meaning he needed any man he could get his hands on. Dallas was surely one of the best heâd be able to get.
Dallas sighed, shaking his head as he lowered his gaze. He ran a hand through his hair, knowing this would disappoint Tim and I, just in different ways. âSuckâs about the rumble, Man.â
Dallas and I both cared about Johnny a lot, Dallas more than me by a long shot. We saw so much of ourselves in him, but definitely more Dallas. I could only hope that Johnny would be okay⌠but hope wasnât enough.
Merely a week ago, we were helping Johnny and Ponyboy go on the run. Couldnât believe Johnny had actually done it at first, seeing the two walk into Dallas and Iâs room at Buckâs Pony soaking wet, freezing I offered him one of Buckâs shirts we had laying around, Dallas gave him his brown jacket.
I checked one of our drawers for some cash, counted fifty and Dallas explained how to get to a hideout location. I handed the money to Johnny, âShould be enough for you to buy a weekâs supply of food, when you get there you need to get food before your descriptions are put in the paper.â
Dallas got up from his potion on the bed and went to get his gun, his loaded one. He handed that to Johnny as well. âDonât point it at me for Peteâs sake Johnny, itâs loaded!â
âPony, do Darry and Sodapop know about this?â Dally asked as he took a seat on the bed again, pulling out a cancer stick and match using his Christoper to light it. He took a drag as Pony shook his head, âIâm not itching to be the one to tell them and get my head kicked inâ
âDonât tell them thenâ Ponyboy replied settling with the new shirt and jacket on.
That night neither Dallas nor I got much sleep, we laid in bed thinking, hoping that Johnny and Pony would be okay. We had sworn ourselves to secrecy, no one would know that night had happened the way it did other than the four of us.
Just over two months before that night, Dallas went to prison. âYeah well, I donât want to see him serving a sentence longer than a couple of days,â Dallas told me. We had been discussing him taking the blame for busting out the windows of the local high school, everyone knew Two-Bit had been the one to do it.
âBut Dal, you know they arenât going to give you a slap on the wrist this time aroundâ I sighed.
âI can handle it, been in and out since I was ten, you know that Bella,â Dallas said, as he emptied his pockets, putting his heater in one of his drawers. âPlus, sounds like something theyâd think Iâd do. Iâll get hauled in soon enough, itâs easier to just turn myself inâ
I walked over to him, putting my arms around his waist holding him. I always hated when he went to jail, normally I could find my own entertainment between visits but it was never the same without him. I always missed him. âYou know the gang will keep you company if need be, Tim is always open to you spend the night at his.â He told me.
âYeah, Yeah. Iâll miss you thoughâ I replied as he turned to put his arms around me.
I know most wouldnât look at Dallas and think âthat man is romanticâ, but he sure could be sometimes, I originally never thought heâd be one to plan dates months in advance. Sure took me by surprise the first time he put so much dedication into a night out. We were back in Tulsa for about six months at that point, he took me out for dinner at the Dingo which was common so I thought it be an average night out. We didnât stay for milkshakes after which was odd because milkshakes were always how we ended the night. We headed out to Buckâs car which we had borrowed for the night and he took me on a drive.
Listening to Elvis on the radio as we drove around Tulsa, we spent the drive singing along to the radio, talking or just enjoying the moment until we pulled up at one of the nearby lakes, there was a picnic blanket set out with a basket. Heâd paid one of the guys to set this up while we had gone to dinner. There were beers, strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate. God this man had my heart. The night was spent there before we went swimming which started out innocently enough, canât say it ended that way.
I of course am Dallasâ partner in crime, I was a relatively well-behaved kid until Dallas and I moved to New York. We got ourselves into so much trouble, we were involved in a gang, got into gang fights often, robbed stores, and even got wrapped up in a murder cover-up.
âBella, stay right there,â Dallas said, as he peaked out of an alleyway. We had stolen dinner from a gas station, weâd had to spend the last of our winnings from our latest gambling on rent, after a day and a half of not eating we had to result to stealing. The police had been called, stupidly enough, all we stole were chips and soda, quite the overreaction if you ask me. We took some alleyways on our way back, he was just checking for cop cars.
âShitâŚâ Dallas muttered. He turned back to me, âBack this way, we have to walk down to the next alleywayâ
Before we even had the chance to move, we heard someone yell in our direction. There were two police officers calling out to us and walking in our direction. Dallas and I looked at each other for only a split second before we bolted down the alleyway. The dark alleyway echoed with our laughter as we did.
The officers were so caught off guard that they hadnât reacted nearly as fast, so they trailed further behind them. The alley ahead of us split off into three directions, we had to think fast and had to split up. I went for the alley that would take me closer to our apartment while he took the one that would cause him to have to run around almost an entire block. We exchanged a glance that could only be interrupted as âbe safeâ.
I hadnât been followed, both officers trailed Dallas allowing me to get back without any troubles. I couldnât touch my food once I got back, not till I knew that he was okay. I sat on our mattress on the floor which my eyes on the door. Every apartment we owned was a room with a bathroom attached, never anything special we couldnât afford anything bigger.
For an hour I waited for him to return, when he did he had a cut just above his eyebrow, bleeding down his face and a massive grin on his face. He almost gave me a heart attack, I think I lost years of natural life from that experience and many more similar.
There were so many memories of New York, we spent three years there and they were the best years of my life by far. From ages 13 to 16, I spent every day and night filled with the thrills of running away from home, gangs and falling madly in love with Dallas Winston.
I remember the night Dallas and I admitted being in love with one another. This was about a month into moving to New York, we had known each other for about seven months at this point. Dallas and I moved to New York two months after my motherâs death, we werenât very close at that point and the only reason why I ran away was because I had a fight with my father, he pulled a gun on me. I turned to Dallas, knowing that I couldnât hide with the Curtisâ they were too close with my father. He wanted to flee his own father, so thatâs how we ended up in New York.
This particular night we had been out with friends, on our walk home it had started to rain so by the time we ended up soaked. We collapsed on the floor, staring up at the ceiling laughing about something I had said before we entered the room which really isnât important to the moment. Dallas turned his head to face me, using his hand he turned me to face him.
âI donât think I can hide this from you any longer, Arabella.â He said, we stared into each otherâs eyes and for the first time I saw him nervous. âI love you, Bella.â
I almost couldnât believe it. Dallas admitting his love for me, he returned the feelings that I had been so unsure of. âI love you too, Dallyâ
We laid there as moments passed, continuing the staring as the grins grew on our faces. He was the one to break the silence, the words that would impact the ending of the situation I currently find myself in.
âI propose⌠a death pact. I know right now I want to spend my time with nobody other than you and I never want you to be with anyone else.â Dallas said. Heâd mentioned how the idea of marriage made him sick.
If this was anyone else, I would have laughed in their face and told them they were crazy. But.. I was also not in the best state of mind. Dallas was the only person keeping me here, after my motherâs death and my father becoming the way he was my only stability was him and if he was to go, Iâd want to follow. âLetâs do itâ
âIf you die, Iâll kill myself... If I die⌠you do the sameâ Dallas said drawing out the only real rule.
Bringing me back to now, after witnessing Johnnyâs death at the hospital after the rumble Dallas broke. Johnny was gone, and everything came crumbling down for him. He ran out before I could stop him leaving Pony and I to walk back to the Curtisâ to share the awful news. We had been back for only a few minutes before Dallas called, and once Darry told us we bolted from the park. I ran as fast as my feet would carry me.
âDallas!â I yelled seeing him running, he stopped in his tracks under a street lamp. I swear I saw him look at me as he raised his unloaded heater. A fool, thatâs what my love was, a blasted fool. The officers didnât know his bluff, shots fired and Dallas fell. He was gone before we could even make it to him.
Darry was yelling, something about Dallas just being a kid. Most couldnât control the tears that raised in their eyes or the sobs that left their mouths as we neared his body. Every memory with Dallas from this moment backwards went through my mind in a flash. Suddenly Dallasâ voice filled my head, âIf you die, Iâll kill myself... If I die⌠you do the sameââ. I had to honour the pact.
Tears fell down my cheeks and I choked out sobs. I turned to Darry and then to Pony, âIâm so sorry.. But I promised Dallasâ I said.
I grabbed Dallasâ heater took a few steps forwards, before raising the heater at the nearest officer. It didnât hurt when I was shot, it felt like Iâd had a pebble thrown at me but I assume that was just because of the shock. I fell to the ground and the last thing I heard was Ponyâs voice.
âNot Bella tooâ

Thunderfam Appreciation Post
Iâm giving this a new post to prevent scroll city, but the original and several reblogs can be found by clicking the above link. Also, itâs an excuse to post a piccy of Virg cos any excuse, really :D
Many thanks to @willow-salix for writing this question list :D
Before I start, I just want to say that I value every member of this fandom. Iâm often hopeless at communicating in group settings so I donât speak to many peeps, but that is my failing, not anyone elseâs. You are an amazing group and you have supported me and each other just brilliantly over the last nearly three years that I have been hanging with you guys. Thank you ever so much for all your wonderful support and encouragement. Iâve had so much fun and created so much stuffâŚyou guys are amazing. Thunderfam rock!
Please note that my memory is pathetic and I will fail to mention everyone. Please do not take any offence if you arenât listed below. That does not mean I donât value you, I do, it just means I have swiss cheese between my ears.
-o-o-o-
Your favourite writer of your favourite boy.
@i-am-chidorixblossom You are a whumper and comforter after my soul. You speak the Virg :D @vegetacide I adore your turn of phrase and your description is to die for.
The person who's stories you will always read.
I try to read most fics that come across my dash, but there are a few that have me jumping up and down. @i-am-chidorixblossom , @vegetacide , @tsarinatorment , @scribbles97 , @the-lady-razorsharp , @janetm74 Of course, I regularly fail at this as some of you write a huge amount of fic and I am often playing catch up, but fic!
Who wrote the first fic you read in this fandom.
I landed on FF.net back in May 2018. I immediately ran into @the-lady-razorsharp who I knew from another fandom ten years prior and she was absolutely wonderful, drawing me in and introducing me around. I gobbled up several of her fics in the process.
Person you can talk to for the longest without a break.
I am hard to get started, persistence is required, but once started, it is usually hard to shut me up. @scribbles97 @vegetacide and @tsarinatorment have all discovered that. Dangle a Virg, a plotline and stand back.
Person you can't be trusted to be left alone with.
Um, @vegetacide and I have plotted out the entirety of Warm Rain togetherâŚpoor Virg. Add @the-lady-razorsharp into the equation and Virgil ends up with a beard, dressed in leather and riding a Harley â that was a hilarious evening.  Between @tsarinatorment and @janetm74 Virgil gets grey hairs and has to go rescue Scott â because Scott inevitably ends up in the story :D  @scribbles97 gets the blame for Gentle Rain â expand your horizons she said ::headdesk:: But then there was the time I left one random line about Eos visiting Virgil in the shower and went to bed. I woke up to hilarity and chaos as Thunderfam took the idea and ran with it! Love you guys :D
Person whose fic made you cry the most.
I know there were at least two fics that made me cry, but for the life of me I canât identify them. I did cry writing my own fic â Flannel â and donât tend to reread it for that reason. Purupuss traumatised me with A Quiet Day to the point I had to put it down and walk away for a bit ::wails::
Person whose fic made you laugh the most.
I have no idea. I know there are fic out there and I know Iâve read it, but without a complete list of everything Iâve read, I donât have a clue.
Person whose fic made you think the most.
Aaaargh, I donât have a master list so canât remember everything. Staring at my paltry favourites list on FF.net (which was mostly gathered three years ago and never maintained), Purupussâ âBrothers in Armsâ and her whole Quiet series has me wanting to write a Scott-Virgil telepathic fic (and she has given me permission to run with the idea, I just havenât actioned it yet). Counterpoint by Swallow and Amazon is amazing and likely contributed to Sotto Voce.
Person you have laughed with the most.
Iâm really not liking this ultimate one person idea. Iâve laughed with a lot of people in this fandom. Iâve candy cannoned a bunch of you as well :P There has been mad plot cackling, evil conspiring, fic written to stir pots and delight on purpose. Hell, Iâve even written fic that was purposefully a giant virtual hug because Iâm so far away that even if half the world wasnât in isolation, I couldnât hug most of you. Sure, I talk with some of you more than others, and there is laughter in those chatsâŚoh, god, so much cackling, poor, poor Tracy boys. But then there are also so many smiles both vocalised and not. Thunderfam is one of my happy places. Bring on the belly laughs :D
Your comfort fic that you'll go back and read again on a bad day.
I will often resort to my own fic when Iâm really down simply because it helps me get to sleep :D and it is kinda tailored to me ::grins:: Â (and my memory is that bad I often forget what I wrote anyway â yes, it is that bad) But there are also a few on my FF.net favourites list. Mostly hurt/comfort in a Virg flavour. Cheesycheese, nhsweetcherry, A Small Rescue by Nalina, Breathe Easy and Under the Weather by @loopstagirl â several of hers, in fact â the Virg ones :D Pretty much anything that has Virg fainting and being looked after apparently :D Chiddi and Veggie fic, of course.
Favourite piece of fan art.
I have never been so honoured by artists before. This fandom has some amazing skills and I have been gifted some beautiful works. You guys are amazing (I keep saying it like a broken record, but you are).
Again, Iâm stuck on having to list one and I canât. I think Fanart Appreciation Month in January pretty much summed up my opinion.
Who have you known the longest in the fandom.
@the-lady-razorsharp followed by @vegetacide both wonderful peeps. I canât miss out on @weirdburketeer either for her amazing support almost from day one.
Favourite OC.
I have to say that I really enjoy reading about Ray from @i-am-chidorixblossom âs fics :D He is so gentle and kind and just ::sigh:: Virg likes him lots :D Selene by @willow-salix is, of course, a major presence in the fandom and amazingly written. @hedwigstalons â Claire is lovely.
Person who supports your work the most.
The Thunderfam? There have been some wonderful people who support all the time. @hedwigstalons @cg29 @janetm74 @weirdburketeer in particular have been amazing support liking and commenting on just about everything I write. I honestly donât know how they do it. Plus several peeps over on FF.net and Ao3 who support me over there.
And then there are the poor souls who put up with me in chat and listen to my wibblies and whining and character checks and field random chunks of writing that get thrown their way. @scribbles97 @vegetacide @the-lady-razorsharp @tsarinatorment @i-am-chidorixblossom @onereyofstarlight @godsliltippy @willow-salix @janetm74 all have had random passages thrown at them at all times of the day and night by a crazy me begging for feedback. Does this work? Is this in character? Am I insane? What the hell is Scott doing? Is this John??? I give up, tell me what to do? Virgil is driving me insane! So, um, yeah
Person who's progress you are the most proud of.
I love those peeps who appear in fandom who start off poking around commenting and generally being lovely and then all of a sudden get out their own pens and start writing and they are frickinâ amazing! Both @janetm74 and @hedwigstalons come to mind in this department. Like holy cow â âhere is my first fic and Iâm not sureâ ::reads it:: Omigod! Where did you come from? That was amazing. Sit down here now, keep doing that writing thing, bloody hell! I think being brave enough to pick up a pen and join in is a major thing :D
Person who's story you think is underrated and should be read by more people.
If I find fic I like, I reblog it and shout about it. What I like is definitely skewed in a Virgil direction and this dictates often what Iâm going to read first. I canât reblog what I havenât read. So, this equation will always be skewed by âreasons I havenât read a ficâ which mostly involves either Virgil or the fact Iâm juggling RL. So, my answer to this is if I think a fic needs to be shouted about, I shout about it.
Something you think people would say about you.
Sheâs nutty.
Silliest 'thing' you do with someone.
Iâve been known to write fic on the fly directly into chat windows to try and distract peeps going through shitty times.
Favourite pairing you now Stan because of someone's fic.
Virgil/Kayo because of @vegetacide for reasons I have blamed her for multiple times. @the-lady-razorsharp and @weirdburketeer were accessories to the fact.
Favourite headcanon from someone's fic.
Um, Virgil and coffee? I got that from somewhere and it has infiltrated my ficâŚa lot.
Ultimately, though, I feel most people I interact with contribute to my fic and how Iâm feeling. This has been a wonderful experience. I try to return the support as much as I can, but sometimes it is a juggle between writing more, my stupid fluctuating mood, the demands of RL and my own creative drive. I hope Iâve helped a few peeps, because you guys have certainly helped me ::major group hug::
And yes, I hug a lot, because to be honest, I have no other descriptor to communicate how I feel, so you get buckets of hugs :D
Tagging the Thunderfam. Feel free to grab these questions and run with them. Youâre all part of the gang whether you write, read, art, gif, screenshot, chat, babble, stare at Virgil all day...I know I do a lot of staring.
Nutty
(Thunderfam rocks!)

Chapter One
little changes can pave lanes
Auggie broadens their horizons and meets their best friendâs girl.Â
The seats are crammed together, packing everyone in like sardines. The sweat and general body odor seem to go along with the disgustingly fishy trend. All of that Auggie could forgive but the hollering child was where they drew the line. The demon spawn pounded its fist against the back of some poor unfortunate soulâs seat and yelled about wanting to go play.
The sole reason they donât join in and match the childâs volume is because of Trish, the woman keeping a firm hold on their hand as if reading their thoughts. And considering the type of woman she was, they really wouldnât put it past her if that really were the case. As it is, it helps ground them and not lose it on a literal child.
âI thought your dick of an ex was rich now,â They grumble lowly, debating if they should give in to the desire of banging their head against the headrest.
âHe is,â Trish tries to hide her amusement, hiding her grin behind her drink as she pushes further. âWhy would you think otherwise?â
Snorting, Auggie gestures to the hell hole theyâve been forced into. âThe bastard skimped out on getting the good seats. But itâs good to know Dick is just the same.â
âWeâre just lucky to have found tickets at such short notice,â She gently squeezes their hand with a wordless scolding and itâs enough to have Auggieâs frown deepening.
Flushing, they look to the cloudy sky. Itâs a cruel reminder, being indebted to someone like Ken of all people. Instead, they choose to focus on the reasoning behind it, easily shifting the blame onto the person whoâs truly at fault. âIâm gonna beat your sonâs ass when we see him, fair warning.â
And Trish, the traitor, just laughs to herself. âI love you, honey. But I donât think youâd like who the winner was in something like that.â
âOh, I know,â Auggie just shrugs. âBut Iâd get a few good hits in there and thatâs all I need to ruin his day.â
This just has Trish laughing even more though she clearly tries to fight it. When Auggie snorts as a result, she lightly slaps their knee, and they both tune back into the movie playing overhead. And when Trish begins to tear up at the lovers reuniting on-screen, Auggie just squeezes her hand tighter and doesnât mention it.
ă
¤â                             |â|
Itâs barely even noticeable, hidden beneath postering and a surprisingly fragile smile. If it hadnât been for the years of knowing him or the sudden edge in Trishâs eyes, Auggie might have not even picked up on it. But they did and therein lies the issue.
The thing about Hardin was that he was similar to a horse. Big and intimidating but one good blow will end him for a long time. And so easily spooked on top of it. He wasnât the type to confront, not when he was trying so hard to hide it like he was. They already knew how that would play out and it wouldnât be pretty.
So, they did the only thing they really could do. They waited. Hardin wasnât exactly someone subtle nor was he someone who bottled everything well. He was the explosive sort and that meant all Auggie needed to do was wait. Preferably without pushing him to that breaking point themselves but if they needed to, they would.
âLook at you!â Trish beams, holding his face gently. âHowâve you been, love?â
He places his hands over hers, his smile growing stronger. âBetter now that youâre here. Was the flight okay?â
âOh, it was fiâ,â Trish goes to assure but they cut her off there, a screaming child flashing beneath their eyelids.
âIt was absolute shit,â They announce with a proud grin. âI expect compensation, just so you know.â
Trish just shakes her head, pressing a kiss against her sonâs forehead before pulling away. âIt wasnât that bad.â
âIt was but you can pretend otherwise,â Auggie corrects, rocking on their heels.
He just snickers, shaking his head as he grabs Trishâs bags. âIt wasnât too bad if youâre still in high spirits.â
He walks forward without a warning, leaving the two of them to catch up. And Auggie does just that, their own bag thumping against their thigh with each step. âOf course Iâm in high spirits now! I get to see my favorite white boy named Allen!â
He stops, just for a moment, and levels them a fierce glare from over his shoulder. âIâm sure they could always arrange a flight back home for you by tonight.â
âOr I could just go on with you two,â They beam, eyes wide and ready to play the innocent card.
Trish huffs at them both, her smile betraying the notion as she gestures them to hurry up. âIf you two donât play nice, Iâll ground you both!â
That has Hardin laughing, the shadows being chased away for the moment and itâs a small victory that Auggie soaks in. They walk with a purpose after that, Auggie shuffling after the mother and son duo with a smile that feels more real than any other one has in months.
ă
¤â                            |â|
The apartment isnât the cleanest of places but Auggie can still tell how nice it is under it all. They wonder whether or not it was another attempt on Hardinâs sperm donor to win him over and how successful it actually was considering he accepted it. The only thing out of place, besides the strewn-about clothes, is the light that streams in through the large, modern windows. It feels like the darkness should be trapped inside by thick curtains, not released to the light. They canât help but think that maybe that was exactly the case before Hardin left to pick them up.
âWell, here we are,â He announces with little enthusiasm. âGo ahead and get comfortable.â
âOoh, might as well draw me a bath in that case,â Auggie teases lightly before seriously considering it themselves. The warm water really would be nice right about now. âWe can make it like old times and you can join me.â
âNo thanks,â He snorts, dropping the suitcases in front of what they assume is the guest room. âOne almost drowning was enough for me.â
âSo boring,â They tsk, flopping on the couch as Trish rolls her eyes at the pair of them.
Thatâs when the newcomer makes themselves known, slinking out of the bedroom with a heated glare and her hands on her hips. The first thing Auggie notices is how pretty she is. Itâs the type of prettiness that can be weaponized, the kind of features that were found on the faces of the popular kids back in high school. Her blonde hair pulls upon that cliche even more, cascading over her shoulders in a gentleness thats betrayed by the poison pooling behind her teeth. And itâs with a sinking feeling that Auggie realizes who this is at the same time that Trish does.
âYou must be Tessa!â She exclaims after a pause, striding across the room and pulling the other girl into a hug. âOh, Iâve been looking forward to meeting you ever since Hardin mentioned you!â
And that is very true. When theyâd discovered Tessa couldnât make it, leading to Hardin canceling as well, the woman had almost been heartbroken. That alone would have been enough for Auggie to be on guard around her. But the already set glare and the way Hardin seemed to shrink in on himself yet attuned everything to her, that did it. So Auggie stayed where they were seated, not bothering to stand up to greet the girl that their entire body seemed to rebel against.
âOh, I thoughtâŚâ She trails off, flushing with a sheepish smile. Her eyes though, they remain sharp. âItâs so good to meet you! I was just going, though.â
âNo, you canât just go now! Please stay! At least for dinner!â Trish pleads, the desperation matched in her sonâs eyes.
âI mean, I told my mom Iâd be there by darkâŚâ She trails off, guiltily looking towards the door.
âSurely it wouldnât hurt another night. Itâll be safer to drive in the morning anyways,â Trish reasons and they donât miss the way Hardinâs eyes begin to brighten at the prospect of her staying.
It seems to be enough to convince the girl though and she gives a weary smile as her decision is made up. âI guess it couldnât hurt.â
And for some reason, Auggie highly doubts it, but they keep their mouth closed for now. Although, they do throw their head against the back of the couch and let out a big sigh. âIs that bath still an option?â
ă
¤â                            |â|
They end up ordering in food, the empty cabinets and fridge having given Hardin pause in his plans. And pause in conversations as well, it seems. Trish makes an effort, asking simple little questions to get to know the girl her son has become infatuated with, for some reason, while Hardin sits there staring at his plate like it spit in his face. Tessa, for her part, answers as politely as she can with a well timed smile.
The fakeness is stiffening and they all know it. Or at least, Auggie hopes they arenât the only one picking it up. By Hardinâs awkward gazes between the blondes, they think they arenât. So when Auggie is finally brought up, theyâre pulled out of their overanalyzing thoughts about Hardin, the apartment, and the awkwardness. âWhat?â
âI was just saying how you and Hardin met,â Trish beams like the proud mother she is. âTheyâve been with us through so much.â
âI had no idea,â Tessa enunciated slowly with an indescribable look leveled at their way. âHardinâs never mentioned anyone other than his mother.â
âDoesnât surprise me,â Auggie shrugs, trying to shake the edge in their voice before it's noticed. âHardin always has been a private person. Plus heâs always been a mommaâs boy.â
Tessa nods, glancing to her boyfriend before focusing back on the odd creature that Auggie must look like in their perfect apartment. âSo what is it you do back in London?â
âWiltshire,â They correct.
âWhat?â She frowns, sitting back in her seat with a deepening frown.
For some reason, Auggie finds relief in that. âIt's outside of London. Thatâs where weâre from. But I mainly just help look after Mum and work down at the convenient store. Hoping to broaden my horizons soon and all that.â
âOh,â Tessa trails off, looking towards Trish now like sheâd somehow done something. âSo you and Trish are close too?â
âOf course,â Trish answers with no hesitation, missing the way the girlâs smile tightens. âI practically raised this one and when Hardin moved away for uni, this sweet thing stepped up and moved in with me.â
âIâm basically the favorite child,â They grin ear to ear, nudging Hardin with their foot. âIsnât that right?â
He, finally, stops staring after Tessa like a lost puppy and scoffs. âShe only tells you to keep the peace in the house.â
Thatâs what Auggie considers a good opening, especially for what theyâve been meaning to discuss, and thereâs nothing like biting the bullet head on. âAbout that.â
He turns his entire focus to them and almost looks scared. âWhat? Whatâs happening?â
Trish picks up on it immediately and sets down her drink softly. âBefore you say anything, know that this was something I pushed.â
âJust spit it out already,â He snaps, hackles seeming to rise.
Auggie takes a deep breath. âRemember them broadening horizons? Well, I think it's time I actually do that and Iâve been talking with the DickâŚâ
âKen? Why the fuck have you been talking with my Dad?â Hardin exclaims, eyes narrowing between them and his mother.
âI wanna go back to school and the only way I could afford that is if I had some help or knew someone. I ended up having both.â Auggie further explains gently.
It finally clicks in his head and his guards fall at once, his eyes widening. âYouâre going to attend Washington?â
âIf I can get a place to stay at,â Auggie slowly explains, clearing their throat. âI might need a place to stay while I get everything in order, though.â
âAnd it would be very generous and kind if you were to help Auggie out with this,â Trish adds on, eyes narrowed as if daring him to deny them this help.
Hardin just rolls his eyes, leaning back in his chair now that he knew what the conversation was about. âDonât be stupid. Auggie can have the spare bedroom once you leave,â Then he pauses, looking towards Tessa. âIf thatâs alright with you.â
If it werenât for her white knuckles around her fork, her easy expression would have fooled Auggie. She even smiles sweetly and nods. âItâs your place too. Of course they can stay for a little bit.â
âThen thatâs perfect,â Auggie claps. âI packed all that I could and once Trish gets back, she can ship me my things!â
Tessa nods, her knuckles whitening and her smile stretching almost uncomfortably. âMhmm, perfect.â

***
Back in college, you met whom you thought was the love of your life. It all started when he asked to borrow a pen from biology class and had asked you out shortly after to hang out with him. You were inseparable ever since. You two had begun dating for over two years and the thought of being with someone else new didnât even cross your mind back then, the two of you were too in love. Even your friends were getting sick of it. He had treated you with love and respect, your family loved him and vice versa. The thought of getting married had always been a conversation between the two of you and you were so sure of it.Â
But your future fairy tale had ended when you found out you were pregnant. You woke up with a headache before fleeing towards the bathroom and threw up on a toilet bowl. When you bought a pregnancy test from the nearest pharmacy to make sure, you were terrified but at the same time delighted that you were pregnant. You thought that Brian would feel the same way as well when you broke the news to him. Instead, his face fell. He was angry and upset, asking you how could you be so stupid to let something like that happened. He wasnât ready at all. He loved you but he wasnât ready. His priority was now his work and heâd be damned to let a baby ruin that for him. At least thatâs what he said.
You were broken and disappointed when he left. The whole thing was frightening you. How on earth could you possibly take care of your own baby alone? Your family lived in a different city and although you have friends who care about you, they still have their own lives to deal. It was crazy and you were losing your mind.Â
Then you met Harry. A sweet, shy yet gentle loving man who adores you. You two met at a supermarket. You were craving for a yoghurt and had no one else to ask to buy it except yourself, although your feet were tiring and your back was hurting it must have been done. Harry was nearby when you were struggling to grab the item due to the height. He walked over to you and helped you by giving it to you. He was so sweet and kind plus he was a sucker for pregnant women, he loves babies.Â
For twenty minutes the two of you were talking and had shared a few stories here and there, it felt really really good. It has been a while since you talked to people other than your mother and your best friend, Janice. He was telling you how he loved coming back to this city because LA had always been such a pressure to him and he needed to get away from all of that. When he learned that your former partner had abandoned you while you were carrying a child, he was angry yet he remained calm on the outside. How could anyone hurt a gorgeous woman like you and left his own baby because of his selfish needs? How?
And thatâs when he asked you out to go to lunch, he promised himself to take good care of you and be there for you whenever you needed something.
Now, here you are at twenty five years old, working at a local hospital and has a two year old daughter along with your beautiful fiance. You feel so happy to be with two people that you love more than anything in this world. Nothing could ever replace them.
âMommy look! I drew unicorn!â Your daughter, Bella squeals. Excitedly showing you her drawing full of purple and pink color. She is honestly the cutest baby you have ever seen.
You smile down at her as you are preparing for dinner, wiping down your hands on your apron. âWow baby! Youâre really good, arenât you my little artist? Why donât you show it to daddy when he gets home?â You lean down and kisses her chubby cheek,
She giggles and nods her head before running off to the living room to draw some more. You go back to put a few utensils on the table when you hear the front door open,
âIâm home! Howâs my two beautiful girls doing?â Harry walks in with a huge grin on his face. Work has always been so stressful for him but knowing that he gets to see his girls at the end of the day always turns his frown upside down,
âDaddy!â Bella squeals, running quickly towards his tall broad figure and hugs his leg as she laughs, âYou home!â
Harryâs smile is even wider now, lifting his leg up before grabbing her small body and holding her close to his chest. âHow are you my baby angel? Were you being good to mumma while I was out?â
Bella nods, wrapping her tiny hands around his neck. âMissed you daddy. I drew unicorn! Daddy see!â
Harry smiles and kisses his baby girlâs cheek and puts her down. âReally? You did? Go and get it then, pumpkinâ he says, petting her head before she walks off, excited to show her daddy. After he sees her rushes towards the living room, he turns towards the dining room, seeing you place the home cooked meal. The sight of your hair up in a messy bun and dirty apron causes his heart to swell, you may think you look absolutely ridiculous at the moment but to him, you still look beautiful as ever.
âHi, lovieâ He greets you, wrapping his arm around your waist and kisses your temple. âIâve missed you at work today.â
You look up to him and give him a warm smile that he always adores, pecking his soft lips. âHi, H. How was your day?â You ask, untying your apron before putting it down on the counter,
Harry lets out a frustrated sigh, giving you a weary smile. âBetter now that iâm home with you. Couldnât wait to get home to see my two favorite girls. Was pretty bored.â
âMhmm, iâve missed you too. I switched my shift with Maya today so no night shifts for me, I get to spend time with you and Bella.â you say, heart warms when he pulls you closer and pecks your forehead, taking your hand as the two of you walk towards the living room
âFinally. Bella has been dying to watch Toy Story 4 with us. Said she doesnât wanna watch it alone with me, wants her momma too.â He says, pulling off his coat before placing it on the couch. His eyes then turn to your daughter, whose hands are busy grabbing all of the drawings she created. âAre those it, baby?â he asks, kneeling down to her level,
She gives him a toothy smile and gives the papers to him. âLook daddy! This one for you!â
Harryâs heart warms at her statement, gasping slightly as he takes the paper from her little hands. âOh really? Thank you so much, baby! Daddy will keep it forever!â
Bella giggles and pecks Harry on his cheek before moving her tiny legs towards you. âMommy, pee.â she says, her big brown eyes looking up to you as she tugs your pants,
You laugh before picking her up. âOkay baby. Harry, love, can you please take the lasagna from the oven please? And go place it on the table. Weâll eat right after Bella takes her potty.â
Harry gets up and nods his head, âSure thing, bub.â He walks back into the kitchen, taking out the lasagna from the oven and nearly waters at the smell. You sure really know how to cook.
âGod, iâm a lucky son of a bitch.â He mutters, smiling softly and places the food on the table. As he struts his way towards the living room to wait for you, he hears a knock on the door. He frowns, looking at the clock noticing it is almost 7pm and wonders who could it be. He doesnât think you or him called anyone.
The knocks don't even stop, so he slowly makes his way to the front door before grabbing a bat just in case it was a stalker or worse.
He unlocks the door and the sight causes him to almost fall on his knees. He doesnât even need to ask who he is. He knows exactly whoâs the bloke. The same man who broke your heart years ago, left you with a baby to take care of and had made you fear of falling in love again because the trauma was unbearable.Â
Seeing this man standing there and all Harry sees is a picture of you breaking down to tears, blaming yourself for what happened and wishes that you could be good enough for this son of a bitch. He sees red. But he needs to remain calm and collected or else this could go downhill.
Brian is startled, seeing Harry open the door is unexpected. He thought that it was you instead. âUhh, does y/n lives here?â
Harry crosses his arms, clenching his jaw. How could this asshole even dares to say her name?
âYes. Can I help you?â Harry asks, leaning against the door frame. Struggling not to kick his ass.
âI uh kinda need to talk to her mate. Itâs kind of important.â Brian says, shoving his hands inside his jacket,
âYouâve lost that privilege a long time ago. She doesnât wanna see you. Get out.â Harry demands. There is no way in hell, Harry would let this man talk to you. Even for a slight second.
Brian scoffs, âlook man, you think you know about our relationship but you donât, now can you go get me y/n? Iâm not leaving until I see her.â
âGet off my property before I call the police.â Harry threatens, clenching his fists. He is absolutely ready to throw a punch if he doesnât leave,
Brian is about to say something back to him, that is after you walk back and call out Harryâs name making the two men freeze,
âHarry? Whoâs that on the door?â you question, putting down Bella on her playpen. Your heart stops beating for a couple seconds, you swear it, soon as you see whoâs on the front door.Â
âBrian?â you squeak, lips beginning to tremble. You cannot believe he found out where you live and had the guts to stop by. âWhat are you doing here?â
âHi, y/nâ Brian greets awkwardly, seeing you walking closer to the front door. Harry sees how your demeanor changed in a sec. Thatâs how much this Brian guy had made you suffer and he canât accept that.
âJust came to say hi.â
âSay hi?â you ask beginning to get mad, tears fill your eyes as he smiles softly at you. âYou left me with a baby, alone. You blamed me for everything that has happened and you thought that it was okay to stop by and say âhiâ?â
Harry breaks when he sees you like that, your voice cracks. You were being just fine, already forgot this bloke for what he did to you and now he showed up years later to ruin that.
âBaby..â Harry starts,
âI know iâm so sorry but i am here to let you know that iâm a changed man. I still love you all these years. I was wrong to leave you with the baby. Iâm ⌠ready to be a father to our baby. Ready to be with you again. I promise i wonât ever leave your side again, love.â Brian says, eyes never leaving hers.
For a second, Harryâs face fell. Heâs very much upset with it. With this Brian guy. The word âfatherâ coming from his mouth is just like a stab to Harryâs heart. A father?! Brian was never the father and never will be! Harry is! He loves Bella and treats her like his own daughter--because she is!-- and no one could ever replace that.Â
âItâs a sheâ Harry butts in, glaring at him. Gently pushing y/n behind him because he can no longer see her breaks,
âWhat?â asks Brian dumbfounded,
âThe baby is a girl. And she is not yours. Sheâs maybe your blood but iâm the one whoâs been taking care of her, iâm the one who loves her, iâm the one who helped y/n throughout her pregnancy and i was the one whoâs there when y/n gave a birth. You are not her father but I am.â Harry says, stepping forward, chest to chest with Brian.
Somehow, brian doesnât see Harry as a threat, instead he laughs. âCall yourself whatever you want but thatâs MY daughter. And I am ready to be there for her, both of them. Thatâs my family inside not yours.â Brian seethes.Â
Harry can no longer express his anger because he was too hurt. So he pushes Brian and sternly says, âGet out.â
However Brian isnât finished, he has something else to say but that soon cut off when you interfere,
âGet the hell out of here, Brian. You are not welcome.â you snap, feeling yourself might break down,
ây/n pleaseâŚâ
âNo!â you yell completely exhausted by now, âget out now!â you threaten, ready to close the door.
Brian looks at her for a while to see whether she could change her mind but noticing that she wonât, he scoffs, shaking his head and back away from her before walking back to his car and driving away.
you sigh out and walk back inside the house before closing the door. Soon as you walk back in, you see your fiance standing in the middle of the living room with his head hanging down and his hands on his hips. You can tell that what happened has upset him. He is close to crying and you canât help but feel your heart breaks at the sight.
âHarry, baby..â you call out, walking towards him and standing in front of him. Putting your finger under his chin and making him look at you. Your eyes sadden as you see his eyes beginning to get glossy. âHeâs gone, baby. He left. Itâs okay.â
Harry sniffles and nods his head as he looks at you. âItâs just.. I love Bella and you. Heâs not her father but I am. Sheâs OUR baby not his. Ours. i know i may not be her real father but--â
âStop. you ARE her real father. You may not be her blood but you have done more for her and me than he ever did. Yes, she is ours. She has always been our baby, my love. Bella calls you her dad not Brian not anyone else. She loves you. Youâve always been there for her, right? Youâve never left her side.â you say softly, placing her hands on the either side of his cheeks, thumbs rubbing softly underneath his eyes.
He begins to smile softly after what you just said to him. His heart and soul are warm now, he shouldâve known that you and Bella are his family not that blokeâs. He proposed to you and Bella calls him âdaddyâ. He is so lucky. Nothing could change that ever. He was there to mend Bellaâs booboo, he was there when you needed him to get groceries because you were working late and wonât be back home till 10, he was the one who was lucky enough to have a movie night every friday with Bella and you.Â
He was the one who got to witness Bellaâs first ballet recital with you and had her run towards him after the show was over, calling him âdaddy!â over and over to ask him whether she did great on the recital or didnât, he was the one who Bella made a pancake for on Fatherâs Day and gifted him a âworldâs best daddyâ drawing with him and her on the paper and lastly he was the one who gets to make love to you every night, confessing each otherâs love and gets to take care of you after, cuddles you close to his chest not caring about the sweaty bodies.
âAnd you should know that we both love you with all of our hearts. No one could ever take that away. No one.â

If I Lose Him Like This
Chapter 7
Sitting on the roof of the palace, Aang watches the sun rise. After speaking with Katara and they had decided to end things, he needed time to himself. The conversation between him and Katara plays over and over in his mind and whenever he gets a small break from that heartache, he remembers what Toph had said to him just before Zuko and Katara had walked into the room.
He drops his head into his hands and rubs them along his scalp until he is clutching the back of his neck. How did he manage to screw things up with the both of them? Thinking back on the past few days, he sees little opportunities to fix the whole situation by a simple act or choice of words, if only he had stopped and thought for a moment.
"Well, looks like someone found my hiding spot," a voice comes from behind him. Aang turns around and sees Azula walking carefully down the roof until she can sit next to him.
"Hey, 'Zula."
"So, Katara found out?" she asks.
Aang whips his head over to look at her, but she is carefully avoiding his gaze. "Who told you about that?"
She takes a deep breath and draws her knees up to her chest and wraps her arms around them. She takes in a deep breath, "During the war, Father would have me interrogate prisoners. Get information out of them about secret bases, battle plans, whatever," she pauses and a shaky breath comes out, "The things I use to do to people..." her voice cracks. She closes her eyes and inhales deeply before exhaling long and slow.
Aang can't take his eyes off of her. The gold in her eyes are illuminated by the rising sun and her skin is so white and clear of any blemish, but he can see the aging the war did to her in the set of her shoulders.
"Anyways, I learned things about people, about how they hide certain aspects of themselves. How they can make the worst parts of themselves completely disappear or cover their worst pain. I learned how to search for these aspects of people without even trying to, to see their worst fear or worst judgement of themselves without even tearing them apart." She visibly swallows but turns to him and smiles, "So, no one told me. You and Toph are just very telling."
Aang draws his knees up to his chest as well and rests his forehead against them, "You're not going to tell Sokka, are you?"
Azula waves her hand in the air as if to disperse the tension, "Of course not, it's not any of my business. Although, I do think you should talk to him about it. He's not going to like it and he's going to be mad, but as his friend, I think it would be better that he hears it from you rather than some of the gossiping maids," her voice is back to the sharp edge he knows so well.
He rolls his head on his knees to look at her. It's still so surprising to see how different she is compared to how she was 6 years ago. He never would have thought they would be friends or have any kind of intimate moment, but he is glad she is here.
"I really messed up with them," he whispers. She doesn't say anything but waits for him to continue. "I love them both so much. But, Katara was right. We had been breaking apart for months, and neither of us had wanted to face that fact. We just stopped working. And Toph, I started messing that up several years ago and I didn't even know."
"You slept with her?"
Aang hesitates, "Yeah. Years ago. I didn't know how she felt about me at the time, I just thought it was..." he trails off, not wanting to say what he thought it was. "We kissed at my wedding and then she disappeared for 3 years. You think I would've put all of this together."
"Ha, yeah, you'd think," Azula laughs a little and wipes at her nose.
"I'm losing them both," he mumbles and hides his head in his knees again.
She looks over at him for a moment and considers his situation, "I think you're being too hard on yourself about it. You're only human. Yeah, you're the avatar, stopper of the Hundred Year War, Master of All Four Elements, but you're still just human." She looks at him for a moment longer. She places a hand on his shoulder before standing up and walking back to the window she came through.
--------------------
Toph feels him meditating in the garden and she mentally steels herself for this conversation. Katara had talked some sense into her and that she needed to talk with Aang about what all has happened between them and the futute. She had reminded Toph time and time again how she didn't blame her or Aang and that she shouldn't ever feel guilty about what happened.
So now, she just needed to talk to Aang. she takes a deep breath and walks over and sits beside him, keeping enough distance between them that they don't touch. Neither of them say anything for a moment, there's just too much to say to each other, that it's hard to find what to talk about first. His heart rate spiked the moment he realized it was her walking into the courtyard and it hasn't slowed at all in the few minutes she's been sitting here.
"I don't really know where to start," Toph mumbles.
"Yeah. I just really fucked up, T." his voice is low and sounds thoroughly exhausted.
She barely nods her head, "Yeah. I talked with Katara," she feels him wince slightly but she presses on, "She told me what happened between the two of you. She also told me that she doesn't blame you. That she doesn't blame either of us," she looks down at her hands and pulls a blade of grass out and twirls it in her fingers.
"What about you?"
"What about me?"
Aang looks over at her and takes in the bangs covering most of her face and the dark circles under her eyes from staying up all night, "Do you blame me?"
Toph lifts her face towards the sun and moves the bangs from her face, "Well, you certainly didn't do this on you own."
"The monks taught us to live without regret, and I've done a really great job of doing that so far. I've done really well at now allowing a decision I had made to hang over my head like a knife. But now, the one thing I will forever regret is hurting you," he pauses, willing his voice to steady. "And, I know that I can't make it up to you, at least not right now, I'm just asking for one more chance to earn your forgiveness. Not even your forgiveness, I just want to make it to where you are able to look at me without your heart breaking all over. I want to try and make this better for you, because I'm- I'm so fucking sorry, Toph."
He sees a tear streak down her cheek and he so badly wants to lean over and wipe it from her face, to clear it of existence. "Sometimes, I wish you never taught me seismic sense, because I can feel it. I feel your heartbreak every fucking time you feel me near you."
Toph sniffs and laughs a little, and here she thought she was being slick in hiding her pain, but then, a thought comes to her, "How come you couldn't feel it before?"
"I don't know. I don't know if I didn't feel it or if I didn't want to feel it, but, now... it's just so fucking prominent." She expects her hear to ache at this confession, but it doesn't. Maybe she's reached the limit of her heartbreak for the year.
"Is this what it was like for you, all those years ago?"
She lowers her head and remembers the way his heart would almost skip a beat anytime Katara walked into a room, or the way they both soared their wedding day. It was hell and she wasn't ever able to not feel it. Most people, when they're in love with someone who is in love with someone else, they can look away- they can choose not to see it. But, she felt it every time.
"Yeah. Yeah, it kind of feels like that," Toph whispers.
Aang nods his head and inhales, " I can't even ask you to forgive me, it's not right. But, Spirits. I'm going to try and make this better, I swear to you." He turns to her and her face is as impassive as ever. His heart sinks lower and lower the longer she is silent.
But then, he sees a small smirk come onto her face, "This is going to be fun to watch."
--------------------
Zuko finds her in the library curled up on one of the plus couches with her head down. The slouch of her shoulders is very telling of how upset she is and makes him hesitate just a moment. He doesn't want to go over to her and bother her, not when her whole world just came crashing down.
Straightening himself, he swallows his hesitation and makes his way over to Katara. Just as he is rounding the couch, she looks up at him and smiles. She seems like she is perfectly fine. Her head wasn't hanging down in defeat or heartbreak, but she was reading a book. There's no tear marks on her cheeks and the slump of her shoulders doesn't seem as dramatic up close. The smile on her face even reaches up to her eyes.
"Hey, how'd you know I'd be here?"
"Oh, uh. Lucky guess, I guess," he moves to sit beside her.
They're both quiet for a bit, both of them just staring into the flames. "Please don't ask me if I'm alright," Katara's voice is quiet. Zuko glances over at her from the corner of his eye. She seems okay, and even now, her voice doesn't tremble, and she shows no sign of the heartbreak he thought she would be suffering from.
"Wasn't going to. But, uh. I did want to ask you something," he clears his throat a little, suddenly becoming nervous. She turns to him, an eyebrow raised. "Would you like to be my date to the ball tonight?"

Devilâs Sweet Star (18)
Fandom: Dead by Daylight
Ghostface x Female Reader Â
Rated M for Violence, Language and Smut Â
***
Life is like an endless road. Sprinkled with pitfalls, choices, regrets, happiness, doubts... so many things that could keep you going... or to end the journey permanently. At every important moment, two paths are open to you. and every path you take will have consequences. This is called the butterfly effect.
But when you look at Danny's life, you quickly notice that he continues on his way even though it should have stopped. Already just during his childhood, he escaped death twice. The violence he suffered because of his "father" almost cost him his life. then when he lost Carla. At first, our dear assassin wanted to end his life before changing his mind at the last moment, feeling unable to do so. That's when the truth came out. That's when his life took a whole different path. And the rest you know.
And there... there is another way opens up. The path you've opened. But how far will this path go? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: Jed will have to disappear. Danny still can't believe you prefer Jed to him. Such a boring life is almost unbearable! While a life with him... exciting, dangerous is what makes him feel alive! We're going to have to really work on that. As for McKellan.... his time is running out now.
It's all set. All that remains is to wait. Once the discord between him and Hoggins gets to a certain point.... He will strike. It is not in his style or in his habit to blame someone else. But he has to admit that it was fun to make Wilhelm go around in circles. He couldn't wait to see his face when he found out that Danny had put him on a false trail.
âA little romantic dinner, huh? I knew that under those glasses and that nerd look there was a romantic boy.â said Melinda suddenly, bringing Danny out of his thoughts.
Oh, that's right. Have dinner. With you. He sent you a message to see if you'd prefer a restaurant or a meal at his house. And your answer was not long in coming, with a nice touch of humour, you told him that you would like to taste his cooking. Â He is not a great Michelin-starred chef but for you he will be able to make a meal worthy of the greatest restaurants. And with a little luck... he will be able to enjoy the softness and warmth of your body for the night... what? Don't forget that he is a man, above all! A man with needs... important carnal needs.
âI may be a nerd, but I'm not an idiot either. And then it was you who told me that I had to think more often about my personal life than professional, right?â said Danny scratching his head. Â
âthatâs true, but I didn't think you'd listen to me. And also, at home. this story could end well ... If you know what I mean.â Â
âNot on the first night. That's not her style. Plus, we're not really ... Together. Maybe tonight will be the beginning of a relationship but... It can also be an embarrassing misunderstanding. I'm not sure it's reciprocal. She can always change her mind...
âDon't start telling you that the war is lost if you haven't fought in one battle! You don't know anything and that's normal! tonight it will be the perfect opportunity for both of you to be sure that it is reciprocal. And if that's the case... then this may be the best night of your life.â replied Melina seriously.
âYeah, youâre right. I'll see what happens tonight. the boss's plan seems to be working. Apparently Hoggins is going to press charges against the Georgia newspaper. And he's not even aware that we've published it.â said Danny, re-placing his glasses properly.
âThe most amazing thing about all this is that Hoggins has a tooth against McKellan! Apparently, he thinks he was the one who sold the wick to the journalist. it's going to create tension...â said Mattew, stretching his arms.
âThat's going to spice things up. It can only be beneficial to us. Now don't make mistakes. If hoggins learn that it is us and that in addition they were stolen from his home ... we can say goodbye to life.â said Melina.
Jed nod while Danny smiled slyly. He will be dead long before he tries anything. Because of course Hoggins is going to die. When and how Danny doesn't know, but one thing's for sure: he'll kill him. Then maybe he will consider living somewhere else... You never know. and if he could take you with him... that would be the icing on the cake. He can't wait to see you tonight. More than ever. He wonders what you're going to wear... something soft for sure. Â
But it won't be the most interesting... the most interesting will be how the evening will end... He took the opportunity to bite into one of your pastries, since your reopening, you provide the newspaper with pastries and coffee. and everyone appreciates it! But Hembrook is the greediest. His personal order was rather.... Long. the latter passed through the offices, a brownie in hand before stopping in front of our trio.
âDon't forget you have a Ghostface article to write! I'm counting on you my little Jed to get a quality article!â He said with a proud smile. Â
âOf course, sir. You can count on me, I'm on my way.â respond Danny with a smile. Â
âThis little bandit of Wilhelm does not give us much info. Did you find anything on your side?â
âWell... I shouldn't talk to you about it but... I found pictures... really horrible pictures... I didn't think he could do that. I... I dropped them off at your office.. So, you can see it for yourself. But I don't mean to offend you... you had a criminal among your employees.â replied Danny, holding back from smiling.
Two actually, but that, old man, you don't know. Because compared to Mike, Danny is a real cover-up pro.
âYes... I can imagine the worst. Even though he was a drug addict, I can't even imagine what kind of crap he was doing. I'll be in my office. By the way, you'll tell your friend that I love her cakes! I'll pay for it at the end of the month. At work little kids!
Danny and the others resumed their work, the latter working to catch his article about the drug dealer they recently found. With Mike's murder, it's a big job but it doesn't scare our young reporter. All he cares about is your little face-to-face tonight. Just him and you... both in the same room. The little rabbit trapped by the big bad wolf.
The day passed quickly, the lunch break allowing everyone to take a breather, Danny took the opportunity to watch what he could cook you tonight. A Milanese cutlet with spaghetti was his final choice. He has everything at home to do them. What? Did you expect him to have only sandwiches and ready meals? Danny is a fine mouth and he likes to cook despite his ...bloody inclination. and you're going to be able to see his culinary skills tonight. Actually, Jed's skills from your point of view.
He has to make his alter ego disappear. once and for all. He was tired of being the nice little Jed Olsen. He wanted to be himself. He left his job and came to pick you up as usual. You were exhausted but delighted with this little meal between you. The way home was a laughing as usual and you separated in front of your apartment doors. Danny had three hours in front of him to prepare dinner. He's got plenty of time.
He put his things in his office, took a change, and went to take a good shower. hey he must be presentable tonight! no glasses, no hair tied, it's a very different "Jed" that you're going to see tonight. He left the bathroom, wearing a short-sleeved black T-shirt, black jeans, and grey sneakers. Well, they were white at the base but ... let's say that time has done its work. He was handsome, he knew how to showcase himself, without any artifice. Natural beauty is all that attracted him and made him attractive.
He began to prepare the meal, being careful not to be wrong. He has to make a good impression! if he has calculated his shot correctly, he will have to cook everything when you are there. He'll have a good half hour of conversation with you before he gets to the table. everything was calculated, like his murders. I told you, Danny is meticulously meticulous. Once the meal was ready, just waiting to be baked, Danny prepared the table, simple, sober, but effective. He opened a bottle of wine and tasted it before he smiled. A quality wine for a quality meal.
He placed the bottle on the table and checked that everything was in place and once that was done, made sure that the door of his office was locked. We never know, curiosity is a nasty flaw, and nothing says you won't try to get into it. He barely had time to return to the drawing-room, when he heard knocking at the door. A sneaky smile came to his lips. It's time.
He opened the door, and what he saw left him speechless. You had styled your hair in a beautiful bun, leaving two thin strands of your hair on either side of your face. You had very slightly made-up, very discreet that it does not even seem that you have any. You were dressed in a white and blue striped dress, flesh-colored tights and small navy-blue ballerinas. An angel, you were an angel. And visibly, Danny didn't leave you indifferent either.
âYouâre...youâre beautiful.â said Danny, regaining his spirits.
âSo are you. I wonder if I'm at the right address. What did you do with the real Jed Olsen?â You said laughing, making Danny laugh at the same time.
âOh, let's say that when night comes, the little nerd I am is giving way to a perfect gentleman. Especially when I'm in perfect and charming company. But come in, please. The evening will be more pleasant inside than in front of my doormat.â Â
âThank you, my dear little gentleman.â you replied, coming in while Danny smiles slyly, closing the door behind you. Â
âdinner is practically ready, but I'm saying we could... chat a little bit. Unless you're really hungry and then I better cook everything before you become a little demonic creature.â
âReally Funny Jed, donât worry I'm not like Mattew. By the way, everyone enjoyed my cakes?â
âYeah, especially Mr Hembrook, he's a real glutton, you would have seen him he wouldn't have stopped if you'd brought him more. But keep it to yourself, he's supposed to be watching his line. In fact, his wife does it for him. I met her once and I can confirm that these two there was meant to be together, they are literally day and night. But as they say, opposites attract each other, don't they?â
âItâs true. Melina told me that... that we were all connected to our soulmate in one way or another. and that all our lives we were guided to him or her. After that is it true ... In a sense when I think of my parents, or the Lawsons, I tell myself that it's true. But when I see some couple separating after years of married life.... I tell myself that it doesn't necessarily work every time. Or that we wanted to thwart fate and it put us back on the right path.â You answer shrugging your shoulders, looking at him. Â
âSure...Well, Can I have a drink for you? If I remember correctly, you are not very friendly with alcohol then... Can I buy you a cup of tea? You'll still drink wine at least? just have a drink if you really don't want to, to make me happy.â He asks smiling.
âYes, for the tea, and just one glass of wine, to make you happy.â You respond, smiling in return. Â
Danny serves you a small cup of tea and then give it to you before serving himself and sitting on the couch. You join him and talk for a good half hour. You discuss everything, Danny of his work, you of yours, recalling your little feat of yesterday. Danny smiled, the thought of you mastering this poor fool made him laugh inwardly. Who would have thought that this fragile little body was capable of such a thing? After this half hour of discussions, he got up and put the cutlets into the oven. He pulled out a jug of water that he had put in the fridge, to place it on the table on your side. He then turned on the pan where the spaghetti has cooked to warm them up a little before serving on the plate. Once the cutlets were cooked, he placed them gently on the plate and took them to serve on the table.
âI'm not a great Michelin-starred chef but... I hope you like it.â He said scratching his head. Â
âOh, come on! I'm sure it's very good! Don't underestimate yourself like that! and at worst... You'll be my guinea pig for the next three months.â You respond laughing.
âWell, if it means free cakes...Why not?â
You start eating and he's taking only a bite to congratulate Danny, or rather Jed on his meal. Jed smiled as Danny smiled more widely, of course his cooking was good. He told you, you would be treated like a queen if you preferred him to Jed. The meal went in good spirits, from the dish to the dessert.
âIt was really delicious Jed. Thank you. It's been a long time since I've had a... one-on-one with someone. If we ignore the meal, we made at the Chinese restaurant of course. And in the end, you do very well in the kitchen ... Carla was really lucky to have you.â you said smiling.
âCarla taught me everything. If she hadn't helped me with cooking, I would have been a great instant noodle addict.â Danny responds. Â
â... There's something I'd like to talk to you about. It's... It's about the two of us. I... I know you can't turn the page since... I mean, you know. But lately, we've both shown signs of affection...â
âWe kissed. Twice. The first time was you and the second time was me. And you wonder if... if it's reciprocal on my side. You want to know for sure.â Replied Danny rising from his chair to stand beside you, his eyes staring at yours. He laughs slightly, seeing you nodding, blushing. Â âIt's true that... I'm having a hard time moving on. Carla... was everything to me. She was the only one who didn't treat me like... someone different. And since we've known each other, I've felt that way again. So, if that can answer your question...â Â
He kissed you, without warning, and this time the kiss lasted longer. The softness of her lips added to the softness of his... It's a double feeling of silk touch, both for him and for you. As he was about to release you, Danny was surprised when, against all odds, you kissed him again, not wanting to let go of his lips for a second. Both eventually backed off and a smile was exchanged between the two of you.
âIs that okay with that answer?â he simply asks.
âYes. You know I don't promise to be the perfect girlfriend...â
âI donât promise to be the perfect boyfriend too. We're probably going to fight one day. For anything and everything. But know that if you have problems ... I'll be there. I won't let anyone near you. To hurt you, of course.â
âMe too. I... Iâm started to be tired. I'm going to go to bed.â you replied, rising up and starting to walk you to the door. Danny hugged you and kissed you one last time.
âGood night my love. Have sweet dreams.â He simply said.
He let you go and addressed his angelic smile when you close the door. He cleared it all, wash the dishes, changed and went to bed. Looking at the ceiling he let himself be dragged by sleep. No stalking tonight. But in his mind one thing was clear:
When it all ends. When no one is on his way, whether it's McKellan, Hoggins, or those who will approach you... He'll have to be the only one in your eyes. Jed will have to disappear. Â
FOREVER.
