this is me for REAL
oh to be a chaotic man in the mid victorian era, being a painter and going to parties and chatting with nobility, living on an estate with the most beautiful gardens you’ve ever seen, having a secret homosexual relationship with my poet friend whos letters to me will be discovered in the future and “atributed to how we were such good friends”
i would probably be on oscar wilde levels of chaotic gay.
#history#sure maybe that period sucked for a lot of reasons#however#the vibe#historical homosexuality#i aspire to be oscar wilde tbh

obviously vg for the fandom thing
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): jack fairy. kind and magical and believes in you, permanent limp wrist, wears a £2,000 ossie clark duster, has a lot of implied trauma but seems to be doing okay (?), probably smells great. what more could you want from an icon?
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): malcolm. he’s like a very small soft shiny bird that is so loud. chirp chip all the time. i like that in a man. also seems like he’s always tripping over things…. his slightly vampiric aura makes it cuter.
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): mandy. this lady is utterly charming and no one pays as much attention to her as they should! her outfits are more iconic than brian’s and i bet she appreciates the finer things in life like maraschino cherries. i also think her teeth are cute.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week): micki and freddi, i couldn’t choose one! on the one hand micki has aspirations of meeting einstein (who she knows is dead) and only feels at home in the midst of elegant parties when there’s plush carpet underfoot and girl same i love that she knows herself like that. but on the other hand freddi’s minnie mouse suit is a singularly character-defining work of genius and “shaaa-non!” lingers in my head for weeks on end.
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): cecil tbh. is he a good manager? not really. does he speak polari? yes! does my heart break a little during that scene where brian leaves him and he looks wobbly and lost? also yes… not to mention his implied hospitalization with AIDS in the 1980s timeline is one of the bleakest aspects of the movie.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): maybe curt but in a light and affectionate way? not a serious way! he’s already been very tormented and i want good things for him. i would steal his maraschino cherries and give them to mandy or something.
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell): brian slade. i see a pattern here with jenny petherbridge. both are insecure people who steal meaningful things they think will make them interesting, ruining other people’s lives and their own in the process. definitely the kind of person who can’t accept responsibility or apologize for anything. but he is pretty and it’s iconic that he knows every line of oscar wilde’s entire repertoire, i’ll give him that.
#velvet goldmine#i’ve been waiting for this moment#asks#maybe a little harsh on brian but when i look into my soul i think it’s true

Do you think Curt and Brian’s relationship was toxic? Could it be fixed?
ehehhebdjend lomg post
uhh I def think their relationship was toxic but I don’t think it was abusive as lots of people like to imply; for abuse to occur there has to be a pretty big power imbalance & i don’t think that was there between them. like, I think a lot of people personify Brian as a cold manipulative person simply bc he was more popular as an artist & more business oriented as a person but not once do we see him actually lording that over Curt or bending him to his will with it.....the one time it’s even brought up in the film Brian is obviously trying to protect him from Jerry & the machinery of the music industry. like tbh I’m more concerned with Curt’s outbursts; his rages are not only inappropriate but unhealthy. there’s no excuse to scream & break shit bc ur not getting your way, it’s at best embarrassing & at worst terrifying. I think the anger is actually supposed to be directed at Jerry in that scene, but it doesn’t really excuse the way he’s treating Brian, who obviously is being used as a puppet bc his fear of failure causes him to listen to anything Jerry says.
Like.........Tbh I think in their pre-break up scene Curt rlly was just not reading the room, but at the same time I don’t blame him bc as Mandy says, Brian was projecting a fantasy onto him instead of trying to love & understand a real person. I think a lot of suppressed aggression & existential fear was coming out, deeper than losing Brian I’m sure he was worried about what his career was turning into & where he would go without Bijou Music to pay for him. Also I’m sure by that time, due to both drugs & his huge ambitions, Brian had become distant with him in a way he couldn’t handle; I think that Curt was truly really in love with & grateful to Brian for taking him in and Brian was just a bit too self centered at the time to understand the importance of that. I’m sure the feeling was mutual, but also I totally get being more attached to your career than your boyfriend, it’s a pretty normal part of being a young adult no matter what ur aspiration is. However, Curt isn’t like Brian in that regard- I don’t think he’s really interested in being a pop idol & I don’t think he lives off attention in the same way. He can’t handle feeling abandoned by probably the only or one of the only people who’s ever been genuinely loving & kind towards him and it seriously psyches his shit out. I don’t think it’s dramatic to theorize that Brian is the first person he’d ever fallen in love with and I definitely think that Curt was the most serious & mutual love affair of Brian’s life.
I’m not sure how anybody can rlly argue that they weren’t in love with each other, I just think like. it wasn’t the right time and I’m not sure how a relationship CAN be healthy when it’s actively being marketed and monetized to sell records & concert tickets. I’m not sure how it can be healthy when it’s only Allowed because it boosts Brian’s image, & when a third party is calling the shots on whether it’s sustainable. like, their various faults & traumas & obsessions aside, that’s not something that can genuinely become deep & long lasting unless it’s taken apart & put back together in a different & more human setting.
like idk. I’m really tired of the way most ppl who like VG view their relationship bc I do Actually think they should’ve been the endgame couple in the whole thing and it’s sort of skeevy to romanticize Curt & Arthur instead, tho I don’t think Curt & Arthur’s relationship ITSELF is skeevy. It’s just that Curt and Brian are the proper ages for each other, with similar faults and backgrounds, they have the same vocation, and I think it’s easy to play off their nostalgias as missing their fame but to me it was always pretty clear that they miss each other. like i literally can’t work Tommy Stone into my interpretation of the film bc I think it’s such a disgrace to the character of Brian to write him that way, but despite interpretation Curt is still going to his gigs even if they’re against everything he probably believes in as a gay punk artist during the Reagan era. & it’s not bc he misses the past, it’s bc he misses Brian. & Brian showed up at Death of Glitter & it wasn’t just bc the macabre appealed to his dramatic bitch side, he showed up bc Curt came back to London. & half of Bittersweet is in German & Curt defected to Germany. And Curt’s following blue headed teenagers around the streets of Berlin. Curt hooked up with Arthur bc Arthur was dressed like Brian- It’s written into the Script that Arthur has the same hopeful eyes that Curt remembers from a long time ago.
I’m just kinda gushing abt this now but I think the function of Curt in Arthur’s life wasn’t to be his soulmate, I think it was to continually liberate him from the conventional life he’s just not built for, which is the reason he gives him the pin. I just think it’s sort of a misread to think they got together because I’m not sure that was the lovestory at hand here. I think it was always Curt & Brian.
so like can the relationship be fixed.......yeah I totally think it can. My Fan Theory (which y’all are free to steal & write about) is that Brian Slade actually left for Paris after death of glitter & took a hiatus to write plays there bc it was the city where Oscar Wilde was buried. Curt probably continued to have substance abuse issues into the early 80’s, when I like to think he moved from Berlin to New York & then back to Michigan, where he lived in rural isolation for a while, writing acoustically & drinking like a fish. At some point around 1990(when the world probably would’ve been up to speed with Curt) Jack would’ve fished him out of there and released his folk masterpiece, panned at the time but a classic by 2020, yknow, and I think Brian probably would’ve returned to music sometime in the 80’s bc he’s just a naturally poppy person & it would’ve been a good decade for him. It could be that Brian’s return is what jonsed Curt back into society, idk, but I think after they both return to their passions they probably would rebuild things.

Hiii Ellie! Totally unrelated question to anything 😂 I am going to Paris for the first time ever and I am kinda afraid bc I’m going on my own. Could you please give me some tips or recommend me some places? Of course I want to do all the touristy stuff, but also see some hidden gems of the city. Also I don’t speak French at all and idk if that could be a problem
Hey anon ! Love that for you ! And don’t worry - even though some older people might be a bit rude if you don’t speak French (Parisians....sigh) you can totally figure it out with just English ! I have never lived in Paris but I have been quite a few times, and here are some of my favorite things to do (apart from all the skamfr related things lol)
- As far as museums go my favorite are the Palais de Tokyo (modern art, really depends on the exhibitions but I’ve seen some amazing stuff there also i put in my fic so) Musée Galliano (fashion, I saw a Valentino retrospective once there that was...incredible) and Musée Guimet (Asian art). Also if you’re going to the Louvre, pick a specific section you want to see ; if you try to do everything you are going to exhaust yourself tbh.
- Shakespeare & Co is one of the coolest bookstores on Earth and they have a significant English section ; the whole place is just so cool with nooks and cute stairs and bookish quotes and a place with pinned love letters and beds where aspirant writers can sleep in exchange for helping out in the shop a little bit. It tends to be super busy at all times but it’s still incredibly worth it. Also if that’s your thing there is a really cool LGBTQ+ bookstore in le Marais (the gay district) called les Mots à la Bouche (also has English books).
- I love the Pere Lachaise cemetary, might sound creepy but the vibe there is really romantic, with lots of beautiful trees and statues, it’s very peaceful and there are some cool tombs of famous ppl - like the one of Oscar Wilde, which is so covered in lipstick kisses they put a barrier around it and threaten to fine you if you kiss it in turn which ....is kind of ironic but yeah. Also the rainbow trinkets all around it aww.
- Angelina is a very fancy tea place whose hot chocolate is the closest thing to a pure cocoa infusion into your veins, it’s incredible ; but if it’s too warm they also make lots of other nice things (also to go) like really nice chocolates or this amazing little macaron tartlet with fresh raspberries and cream that is to die for. Another few cool places to eat : Pinson (vegetarian), Antipodes (cool, casual restaurant-bar on a barge boat), Streek Bangkok (thai street food)
- I also really like going to the Botanical Gardens - they have huge, beautiful glass houses, exhibitions about seeds and the diversity in nature, a history of species museum, etc....but that’s not everyone’s cup of tea haha.
- When it comes to the big touristy things, I really like Sacré Coeur but found Montmartre very overrated and fake ; as is climbing the Eiffel Tower - if you go up Tour Montparnasse you can have a view of Paris that actually includes the Eiffel Tower, hah. Also, Versailles is amazing (esp the Trianon) but the lines are just....yikes lol, esp in the summer. Musée d’Orsay is well worth it, as is Centre Pompidou (but modern art is my thing, it’s not for everyone tho). Notre Dame was amazing but well..
That’s what I can think about. I don’t know how long you have but tbh, my favorite thing to do in Paris is avoiding the more crowded, touristy areas, and going off to explore on my own, there are always a myriad cute things to discover just google ‘offbeat Paris’ or something. And be sure to take enough time in parks. It can get quite stressful otherwise. And drink enough water ahahaha.

Book lover questions!!
tagged by @thelibraryiscool. this looks like so much fun, thank you friend! <3
1. Book that’s been on your shelves the longest?
Uhhh it would have to be the Harry Potter books i reckon, i’ve been reading those since i was six?? then again they’re technically at my parents’ house and not with me anymore so idk lol
2. Current read, last read and book you’ll read next:
[would if i could include fanfiction in this tbh]
currently reading: well i’ve had toni morrison’s the bluest eye tucked in my bag for ages and i’ve read the first, like, three pages so i’m gonna say that counts. i’ve also been trying to finish the little friend by donna tartt for ages but tbqh idk if i will, it’s kinda starting to bore me lol
last read: We Are Okay by Nina LaCour! very sad and beautiful, probably one of my most recent faves. last month i also burned through simon v the homo sapiens agenda, everything leads to you, and gena/finn. would recommend the first two thoroughly!! still have complicated mixed feelings about the last
book you’ll read next: AHHHH IDK I HAVE TOO MANY ON MY TO READ LIST. just glanced over at my shelf and the first three books i see are kafka on the shore by haruki murakami, girls by emma cline, and the picture of dorian grey by oscar wilde so i guess we’ll go with those
3. Book that you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but probably won’t?
see: pretty much everything on my to read pile some of those books have been there since i was a sophomore in high school DON’T @ ME
4. Which book character would you swap places with?
i would swap places with Anne Elliot’s sister in Persuasion by Jane Austen so i could be a better sister to Anne and also kick the asses of anyone who tries to fuck with her [i almost contemplated answering Anne herself because she and Wentworth are ULTIMATE RELATIONSHIP GOALS but honestly they’re perfect together i can’t mess with that]
5. Any required reading you hated in school, that wasn’t so bad 10 years later?
Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas, which was a fucking pain in the ass in high school because our summer reading assignment was to write chapter summaries for every chapter [yes, all 117 of them. yes, it’s probably as bad and maybe even worse than it sounds] but is a genuinely good book? i also feel like i can appreciate lord of the flies more now that i’m not a petulant 13 year old but it’s still never going to be my favorite
6. Used or brand new?
no preference! these days probably used just because they’re cheaper pfff
7. Stephen King - literary genius or opiate of the masses?
I actually don’t really have much of an opinion of him either way? i’ve read a couple of his books [bag of bones, carrie; i also have the shining on my shelf, will probably never read it tbh], i liked them well enough, even if i’m not gonna go out of my way to read more; his model of writing is not something i personally aspire to but i don’t think he’s a bad writer by any means
8. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book?
Atonement. the movie is beautiful and heartaching and features young saoirse ronan, what more could you ask for. the book made me really uncomfortable and none of the characters were particularly likeable #yikes
[also i’m a huge neil gaiman fan and like i love stardust but tbqh the movie is even better it just is i’m sorry]
9. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid?
Ender’s game. ENDER’S GAME. E N D E R ‘ S G A M E
[honestly the worst book to movie adaptations i can think of are the ones probably no one remembers exists like who here remembers eragon?? the golden compass??? logan lerman’s percy jackson LOL]
[also “never should have been introduced” is a bit of a strong term but tbh i didn’t really like the hobbit movies sorry don’t kill me]

I have a bunch of those11 questions meme behind so I guess I’ll just mass post the answers here.Sorry I’m not actually putting in new questions but it took me 1 hour and a half just doing these and I kinda have to study
Tagged by @therandommeerkat
1) If someone wrote music about you, what genre do you think it would be in? Be as specific or as vague as you want. Not necessarily a style you favour, but one that would suit you (though these will probably align, but maybe not) Idk maybe I'd be some kind of folk song? I'm not even a big fan of folk but I feel like it would suit me somewhat
2) A place that, ideally, you'd be most at peace. Don't be afraid to be mundane A nice cozy room with a fire and me buried under a ton of blankets. The TV is on as almost background noise and I have a cat on my lap
3) Describe an artwork you'd like at your house. Maybe include a picture. And/or a story. Why that artwork? It doesn't have to be deep I'd like to have one of those Escher drawings that make your brain stop working like it's a room that expands forever but it also inside itself. I think they look really cool
4) If you could create your own social media site, what would it be about? Or your own webthing, more widely speaking Dunno. Maybe some sort of forum for people with common interests but I'm not sure what kind of mechanics I'd put in
5) A pet peeve, something that just gets on your nerves. The more pointless, the better I have this teacher who doesn't have any sort of accent at all, except for one word. The word “libro” (book). She says it like “libbro”. And doubling the b's is like a common accent in some areas of the South but she never does it on any other word than that. If she had an actual accent it wouldn't bother me but this is terrible. It's like if someone with a perfect English accent used y'all'd've
6) If you could spend a day somewhere in the past an no one would question your presence, where and when would you go, and what would you do? I could give a thought-out, serious answer to this but I'll just say I'd like to see a dinosaur
7) Describe a sensory feeling or memory of meaning to you I don't remember the name but there are these sort of cherries that are very bright red and they aren't sweet but kind of sour and my grandma used to have a tree of those and in spring me and sometimes a friend would try to take as many as possible of those while being too short to reach most of the branches and unable to climb up on the actual tree. Good times
8) Do you keep a diary? No. Never really seen the point
9) Do you have a collection of anything? If you had unlimited funds, would you start one? The only collection I have are the Pokemon cards I used to buy in elementary school and if I had unlimited funds I think that's what I'm most likely to start collecting again
10) If you could specializa in literally anything, like, on a college level, what would it be? ...but what about a degree in Pokemon
11) And last, and most morbid, how would you like to be remembered when you're gone? On a physical and an intellectual level There is a monumental tomb in an old cemetery. It is made of strange, black stone. Some being that could be an angel if angels were raffigured as they are in the Bible is on top of it, looking down on humanity with empty, eerie eyes, too many eyes. No one knows who let that thing be built. There is no picture of me, only my initials carved in a corner. No one is sure what my real name was. No one is sure who I was, or how I died. There are multiple legends going around, including that I was the spawn of an eldricht being that came from another reality and that the statue is in truth a representation of my real form, and that it comes to life every second Thursday of the month, to find those who blemish the existance of pizza with pineapple and turn all of their socks into sentient creatures

1) Post-apocalyptic universe, fantasy world, hyper technological future or anywhere and anytime you want in the past: which do you choose? Hyper technological future where we also developed magic and found aliens so it's some sort of futuristic fantasy instead
2) If you knew a ghost was haunting your home, what would you do? I would be terrified but also not enough to be bothered to do something about it
3) Whitches: do you think they are valid, do you not share their beliefs but still respect them, or are they just some delusional airheads? (answer sincerely. Don't worry, I'm bound not to harm anyone with my craft ;3 ) Oh well I don't really believe a lot in this kind of things but I see no reason to not respect other's beliefs
4) Let's talk about food: does it make you happy? Is it just a mean to survive? Do you have an unhealthy relationship with it? Food is fucking important to me ok
5) What's your plan for the zombie apocalypse? Do you even HAVE a plan?? ...I'll figure it out when the zombie apocalypse comes. I'm shit at sticking to plans anyway
6) Think any given race an any given class of any given rpg you have ever heard of. Which do you choose? You must stick with it forever! Well Pokemon is an rpg too so yeah I'm going to be a Pokemon trainer. You have awesome pets and travel around and get paid a fuckton of money for everything you do
7) You are given an unlimited amount of money and no restrictions to create your own tv series! What is it about? Do you both write and direct it? Do you call famous actors you like to starr in it or do you cast some promising aspiring actors the world had never heard of? I was hearing a while ago this idea of making a tv series of the Silmarillion and yo. I would fund the fuck out of this. First season is all about the Valar and Melkor arguing and repeatedly fucking shit up and then we have like a lot of other seasons for the real thing. Because let's face it if we gonna do this we have to make things a lot less fast paced than that book because it would be a mess. Well I'm fine both with new and famous actors. I mean for Galadriel I'd still probably want Cate Blanchett because I can only see her that way now but maybe also another actor for when she's younger
8) What's comforting to you? Knowing this Friday and Sunday school's gonna be closed. Very comforting
9) Do you fear climatic change and natural disasters? Yes
10) I want you to feel good about yourself: tell me something you like about yourself. It could be a personality trait, a physical feature, a specific talent you have, something you did you are proud of... Aw thank you. Well the other day I was at my aunt's and she has this cat who is kinda shy around people and I managed to get close to it and pet it and I felt really accomplished
11) And now, tell me something about one of your passions! Anything! (I can't think of any other questions...) (kiddin', I care about you) I love writing. I really love it. It's beautiful how stories just come to life under your fingertips. I adore writing. I don't have about 50 word documents with maybe one sentence written absolutely not
Tagged by @thxstral
1) What TV/book/movie character do you think you're most similar to? What character to do you wish you were more like? Most similar to... I don't know. I'd like to be someone more like Clint Barton. Not the strongest person around and overall pretty chill but willing to lend my help when there's need for me
2) What was the first career you wanted as a kid? I'm not really sure... Maybe superhero or something
3) Would you rather have magic in an ordinary world, or be ordinary in a magical world? Ordinary in a magical world would also kinda imply I would still have some sort of magic so I'd go with the second one. On the other side, I could actually be a superhero if I went with the first one. Mmm
4) If you could live in the world of any music video for a day, what would it be and why? Do anime openings video count as music video for the song because I might just throw myself in a random YuGiOh opening
5) Who was your childhood enemy? (or frenemy) I wasn't cool enough to have an enemy tbh
6) If you could gain any skill with no effort on your part, what skill would you want and why? The skill of remembering things perfectly after having read them once. Why you ask? I'm a student that's why
7) Can you speak any languages besides your native language? Well my native language is Italian so. I mean. Yeah
8) What was the last book you read cover to cover? Ugh I haven't had time to read a lot of things recently. I can tell you what the last book I started was (Licia Troisi's new book) but I'm not sure I remember the last book I actually finished reading. I think I reread the first Harry Potter a while ago but
9) Would you rather be roommates with a ghost or an alien? Depends on the ghost, depends on the alien. Like if it's vendicative murderous ghost vs Spock I'd say Spock. If it's the ghost of Oscar Wilde vs Alien then I might prefer the ghost of Oscar Wilde a little
10) What do you think your superpower would be vs. what would you want them to be? I mean probably I'd have the power to turn invisible because of course I'd have something that can't actually be useful unless I do something like going around butt naked in the middle of winter. What I'd want is probably just some good old super strength. It seems damn useful both as a potential superhero and in my day to day life
11) Someone offers you a briefcase full of cash in exchange for you faking your death and going completely off the grid. Would you take it? GIVE ME THE MONEY
