Idea I am rotating:

Did elves in Beleriand draw (or try to draw) a line between elves who were thralls and elves who were 'only' prisoners?

I feel like when you have groups who hold the policy "thralls are never trustworthy", it would be useful for them to have a separate category for, as an extreme example, someone who was caught by a raiding party and rescued after an hour or so.

And once you've allowed that not all prisoners are thralls, you've opened things up to arguing about what counts. Does it depend on where they're taken? How long they're held? Whether they broke — and how do you evaluate 'broke'? How they felt?

And if there was a distinction drawn — did The Official Story™️ of Maedhros's captivity say he was a thrall, or assert he was a prisoner not a thrall? Was Maedhros's private assessment any different?

So…

Did the elves of Beleriand try to draw a line between "thralls" and "prisoners but not thralls"?

If so, which side of that line would Maedhros privately consider himself to have been on when he was captive?

Also, which side of the line would the official story say he was on?

How long have Ben and kadiff been dating? Last I heard ben was going through a divorce with mark which seemed pretty sudden and strange. I've always thought they were cute together. I really wanna know what went wrong and at the same time I'm so happy for Ben rn cause he seems really comfortable happy and I'm dying to know about all the details in regards to his new relationship with kadiff

tbh with you, the break up wasn't strange or sudden, you're just normal so you weren't paying attention to the minutia of a celeb's life the way losers with hyperfixations were. i'm very happy for you, really.

anyway, the break up happened in three stage: The Separation (2019), The Split (2020), and The Divorce (2022ish).

ben and mark had already been living separately for 6 months when the pandemic came along and forced them back into the same household as a lockdown bubble. (idk how long you've been in this fandom, but at the time we were all soooo shocked they went into lockdown together because we thought The Separation™️ was a split lol). The Split™️ happened pretty shortly after that. by october that year ben was no longer hiding the break up in interviews, but didn't want to talk about it other than saying "i survived it".

idk what caused the initial separation, but during the separation period there were a few rumours circulating in the uk theatre scene about mark' cheating 's behaviour (whether or not things like rumours/blind items are legit is another convo i think lol). "i survived it" does deffo make it seem like it wasn't a happy break, as well as a later interview where ben's asked about his marriage and instead deviates to talk about james & kerri and how unselfish their marriage is (with the implication being his marriage was selfish).

but let's be real, unless ben has a personality transplant and starts doing personal life interviews we'll probably never know for certain haha. mark certainly isn't talking about it.

ben and kadiff were already industry acquaintances (they were both in queers [2017] and met at the table read) and move in the same social circles thanks to overlapping friends like andrew. i'm 99.999% certain they started off as just a fun no-strings fling, then got a little more serious in that little window of non-lockdown in summer 2020 💀💀💀 which is why they were so on-and-off and messy to begin with (we don't talk about the 2019 era, let my boy have his slutty rebound era in peace!!!). they had a few stops and starts like that before starting Dating Properly after they filmed TIGTH in 2021. they didn't go official (or as near to official as ben ever gets without his agent putting out wedding press releases) until after the daily mail broke The Divorce™️ news, at which point kadiff stopped hiding ben on his own social media. now we get the occasional exciting flash of elbow, or hair, or the back of ben's head. hooray!

thoughts on 1989 TV?

I've not yet actually listened to the whole thing because of life hectic-ness, namely foot surgery that has made fun things like Consuming Music I Love suck a lot. So I'm listening all the way through today while I do some scanning for work! This is gonna be a sort of "live react" stream of consciousness thing that I'll ideally edit before bombarding you with my Thoughts :-)

In general, everything sounds so much crisper and I am LIVING

I’ve been on this website for like six years or so and I never really made a proper intro post to my blog, so here’s a couple basics for new friends & visitors just dropping by!

-I am a continually broke ass bitch that feels guilty every time I see a donation post and I feel awful every time I don’t donate because I literally cannot keep my own shit together. As a result I generally don’t reblog donation posts or any call-to-action posts, partially also because my blog is really for my own entertainment and I use tumblr as a lighthearted escape from the world. which has become increasingly difficult as of late but I still want to keep my blog as just fun posts or anything I find useful. I do care, a lot in fact… but it’s complicated.

Dracula daily is my biggest serotonin-creator right now. I have loved this book for almost 20 years and watching all of us read it together is utterly splendid.

But for even more hilarity and delightful mental images, please remember that in 1897, while vampire stories were about to come into another heyday? They weren't mainstream yet.

And the name "Count Dracula" was in no way synonymous with "vampire".

The Carpathian mountains, That Accent™️, hell... Even Transylvania itself, were not inextricably tied with "vampire lore", particularly in the minds of western Europeans.

This is the book that did that.

As much as we are all reveling in the present tense, and are experiencing the adventure in real time? We all know something Jonathan doesn't. We all know something the readers of 1897 did not.

We know that Count Dracula is a vampire.

We know that he isn't just a vampire, he's like, the biggest, baddest, most OP vamp ever.

We have the lovely dramatic irony in every word, in every time Jonathan tells us that everything is fine, this is totally normal for the Carpathians, he is sure that he's merely ignorant of local culture. We know there is a reveal coming, and we know exactly what it is.

....now imagine it's 1897 and maybe Charlotte has been sneaking her brother's copy of this book in bits and pieces because fiction novels were still sort of looked down on by true high society, especially for women to read. And she gets dressed in her fancy cranberry and white lace calling gown, and takes her carriage to Lady Ashworth's home down the street.

And poor Charlotte has to keep her cool and her decorum through half an hour of polite, stilted conversation as Lord Ashworth is in the sitting room when she arrives. But finally, he excuses himself to the study, and Charlotte can barely put her herbal tissan down in its saucer before Lady Ashworth leans forward.

Y'all, this is not a call out to anyone in particular, but I am so fucking tired of seeing fanart of Gilmore that makes him skinny or super trim & buff.

Gilmore is fat. He is a beautiful, incredibly handsome, flamboyant man who wears jewelry and makeup and bright colors... And he is fat.

Vax likes him that way, and more importantly, Gilmore likes himself that way.

It's amazing to see a character like him, whose size is never ever the butt of the joke, who is never underestimated or ignored because he's fat, and who is extremely aware of how attractive and desirable he is, while being fat.

When y'all are making fanart, or Stardew valley or sims versions, or 3d renders, or whatever... stop fucking making Gilmore skinny. It's fatphobic, and all it does is tell us fat folks who see it that you don't think someone can be as awesome as Shaun Gilmore is while being fat.

Please don't take him away from us.

So there's Icarus and Fallon ofc as you mentioned (Significant Bother is what we call them kjhdfsdkg) and they were dating until shortly before Icarus left the group - and still love each other very much, it was just... a very bad time all around in the moment, and when they get into better places/Ic initiates contact again they work to put things back together - but beyond that no one else is officially dating!!

as for Crushes™️, Calix and Yasha,,,, hoo boy, they are Pining sdkjfhsdkgh they're besties, they're roommates, they love each other so much but they've blurred so many lines they don't really know,,, if the other person likes them the same, because if he did he'd have told me, right? If he liked me more than a friend we'd have had a conversation, right? They're both kind of in this "if it ain't broke don't fix it" state where they almost already function as a couple - they just don't acknowledge it! :P (Mars jokingly suggested we call them bestf riends as their ship name but I like it so much kajsfhskdjghf) I will now insert a cheek kiss doodle from a few days ago bc They Are Cute

Kip, Blake, and Sterling are just vibing tho!! they're all firmly in the Just Buds With My Band category, but they are all the BEST of buds :) Sterling feels more like an older brother/father figure to the guys more often than not, and Kip has definitely had those disaster moments of thinking he has a crush on all his friends, but ultimately nothing comes of them/there are no real crushes to be had between the three of them!

Rope is also so good, both in artistry and in how easily it restrains whoever is tied up. And all the different ties... I wanna try all of them on a willing participant. And I'm not gonna lie, I've always wanted to tie subs up but I'm also curious about being tied up myself. It sounds appealing But I also know how much I like control and I assume the complete inability to move would freak me out some. So... we'll see.
