Bungou stray dogs takes forgettable characters and turns them into flushed out fan favourites, without it seeming forced or rushed

This series can take completely random characters and in just a few panels/lines get me fully invested in there stories and lives.

There are so many examples of this

Tachihara: No one really cared about this guy at first, a lot of people (myself included) even got him confused with Tanizaki, he was the definition of forgettable.

Then boom, they reveal that not only is he a traitor, but he is also struggling with his identity and finding a place to truly belong, this inner conflict making him feel way more human and making him a fan favourite.

Rimbaud: During 'Dazai Chuuya 15' I just thought Rimbaud was a typical " I have to kill you for power and I'm evil bad guy" and I never thought I'd end up liking him.

But then in 'Stormbringer' with less then 10 pages worth of story, He was transformed into an incredibly tragic figure who desperately wanted save his partner from the pit of despair and loneliness he was falling into; but couldn't, and in the end had to give up his humanity to prove that he really loved him. and suddenly I'm crying over him.

Aya: When she was introduced I just thought she was purely motivation for Kunikida, she was kind of annoying and seemed like a very one off character.

But then they bring her back as one of the most important characters in the current conflict, and are showing us her backstory. which is a horrifyingly realistic case of child abuse, and a parent who loves the memory of his wife and daughter more then the real daughter still Infront of him. And now I just want to hug her and tell her that she is perfect the way she is.

There are loads more so here some rapid fire.

Higuchi: Wan gives her the chance to fully embrace the #girlfail lifestyle she has in the show, which made me like her a lot more

Gin: Seeing her have a life outside of the mafia, and that not taking away from how terrifying and competent she is as an assassin, expands her character and humanises the Port Mafia as a whole.

Bram: Not just making him "I am the lord of darkness, who just wants to consume the whole world and destroy everything because evil"

But instead making him feel like as much of a victim as the agency in The Decays plot and letting him want a radio so he can listen to music.

There are loads more but you get the picture.

So if you ever feel like a character was completely waisted, or that they never had a satisfying arc, just give it time and have faith in Asagiri.

He takes his time sometimes but keeps surpassing my expectations.

Alright so, I remember seeing people say that Asagirgi made a comment about not wanting to make any couple canon bc it would be disrespectful but I highly doubt this is a real claim.

Let's start with the fact that if that was the case, then this series wouldn't be made to begin with.

Dazai's introduction is actually distasteful considering the real Dazai Osamu's death.

The real Dazai Osamu died by double suicide with his wife, by drowning himself.

And in the bsd story,the authors counterparts first apperance is...by drowning.

2. Mori as a character, is literally a port mafia leader, a mass murderer AND a pedophile. When this has 0 connotations to the real Mori's life.

I don't even have to explain how this is defiently disrespectful for the real authors memory, now that his name is constantly butchered and dragged as a pedophile in the manga, right?

3. Dazai in real life absolutely loved and respected Akutagawa's works, but his bsd counterpart literally lacks to acknoweldge and abuses Akutagawa.

The real Akutagawa's death actually depressed Dazai in real life, but in bsd, he is portrayed as someone who absolutely disregards half of the things Aku represents.

4. Half of the bsd cast is portrayed as murders, abusers, war criminals or counter opposites to the authors they are based of.

So with all that being said and done, he basically turned many renowned and respected authors to mafia members, killers, or even whole ass war criminals.

5. Rimbaud and Veraline actually had a love affair going on, yet they only kept them as companions in the manga.

Rimbaund and Veraline had a very known love affair, but Asagiri chose to wrote them the same way historians would call lgbtq+ couples as "veryyyyy close besties:D"

6. There's been canonical couples or canonical crushes implied in the manga, but in real life, the authors probably didn't feel the same so it's quite insane for Asagiri to not want to make Soukoku or any other bsd dynamic canon out of fear of disrespect. Unless, he doesn't want to do to the narrative or for homophobic reasons.

Look, I'm not gonna claim that Asagiri is homophobic, I don't know the guy in real life to even come to that conclusion!!!

But, it's quite intresting to realize how Higuchi, Lucy, Katai, Tanizaki and many other characters have canonical crushes on opposite sex counter parts but then, it's suddendly disrespectful for two characters the same sex liking each other/being together?

More than anything the whole discourse of Asagiri claiming that is probably false since I don't see any real document of him saying it, so it's likely this whole thing was started by someone who couldn't stand the idea of shipping mlm or wlw relationships lol.

Okay so like most of the men, his laughter varies a bit depending on what he’s doing. If he’s just teasing Mozart/Isaac, it’s very light and almost tinkling with joy--it’ll be brief but earnest, he really loves messing with the two and getting their inspiration going/giving them a change of pace. 

If he’s with people he doesn’t care for much, his laughter is a little loftier. It will adapt to fit-in with the crowd surrounding him, adjusting in pitch or intensity. It may become lower, or slower, or louder. That being said, the flipside is also true! When he’s with MC who’s laughing heartily at something, for instance, he’ll be much more open about joining her and just letting himself indulge in the moment. Sometimes it’ll be so contagious they’ll just start giggling nonstop until they both manage to calm down :D

Well this is my first time so pls tell me if there is something wrong and dont worry critisize me there not gonna be hurtful as my mom telling me im a dissapointment oh and yeah first time lol.

Summary:Your husband Fukuzawa is busy and is on a meeting you decide to pay a visit to your little brother Mori and after that shit you went to go back to the agency just to find a madness.

Well your hubby is on a business meeting  and you dont know what to do well you can look after the agency but you were lazy and just dump your responsibility to Kunikida you felt bad but he was free.

Well since you have nothing to do you decided to go to your lovely brother Mori yeah actually he is son of a bitch but he your lil bro anyway so you decided to pay him a visit.

You went to the building and everyone was chill they know who you are so they just didn't mind so you dramatically went your way to the hallways as everyone was staring at you now that your infront of the big doors you were so dramatic you just kick that door and it made Mori startled at the sudden action but then cool down when he saw you there.

"What are you doing here?" Mori asked "Eh hubby out of town just wanna visit Elise" You answered as you were scanning the room for a little blonde girl and then you spotted her playing with some crayons on the floor so you made your way there and when she saw you she was delighted to see you.

"Y/N-chan you didnt know how i was in pain thank god you dashed in now take me away from this place" Elise said with a dramatic voice and you decided to roll with it "Oh my Elise look at you come with me lets go to Aku-san and annoy the fuck out of him" you said as you lift Elise on your arms.

You and Elise both exited out of the room leaving Mori confused as you went and fashionably walk in on Akutagawa's office Akutgawa was there and was confused why your both there.

"Aku Aku" you sing in a cheery voice "what the fuck do you want lady" Akutagawa said in an annoyed tone "Oh Aku darling can you set up the tea table because me and elise are gonna have a tea party here" You cheerly said "Lady why in all places you chose to have a tea party in my office" He angrily said but keep down his tone "Where am i gonna have the tea party then" You said "I dont know and i dont care" He said "But Aku darling pretty please you can join our tea party it has desserts" You said cheerly "It has! ok im gonna set it up you order the food and tea but can you order one with the strawberries too" Akutagawa said in an excited tone "Sure Aku darling".

You were lazy to go and buy the food so you just ask one of the assistants to buy it for you as Akutagawa was setting up the place Elise was just there being a cutie that she is was just patiently waiting for the tea party to start.

Now now the tea party is starting with you, elise, and akutagawa just there with your pinkies up and some tea to enjoy a pleasent afternoon.

"So how was your day lovely people?" You asked cheerily "Oh it was awful Mori-san was forcing me to wear so many dresses but thank god you save me from that awful nightmare" She said dramatically "Just killed some karens feeling good" Akutagawa said.

Sudenly someone burst into the room and kick the door down and you were startled by the action and redied your knife but put it back when you noticed its just Hugichi "Hey would you mind not to kick the door down you scared the shit out of me" Akutagawa groaned "Sorry sorry i didn't know i couldn't fine you anywhere and got worried so yeah but my day is been fucking awful can i join the tea chit chat you guys having" Higuchi said excausted "Of course sweetheart here theres an extra cup for you and an extra chair aswell" You said cheerly as Hugichi is making herself comfy from the spot and sipping some tea "Hey pinkies up" Elise demanded "Oh sorry about that" Higuchi lifted her pinkie "Is this ok" She said in a british tone and Elise just nodded in response "Guys today is a shit day for me" Higuchi groaned "What happened?" You asked

"Yeah while i was doing some business some fucking woman was yelling at me because her husband was staring at me even though i fucking told her i don't know any of the shit and was trying to get through my day" Higuchi vented it out as i laugh at the thought of how it would look like "Days rough huh" You replied "Yep fucking people just be meddling with your life when you did nothing" Higuchi said groaning.

You look through your phone and it was 4pm and you decided 'aight its time to see what those motherfuckers are doing at the agency'.

You now excused yourself from the tea party and went to the window.

now now reader your probably thinking to yourself why the hell are you going to the window well you see you are an assasin so jumping probably from the 9th floor through the ground you probably think you just gonn kill yourself but its ok your like a cat and such a fall wont do anything to you it will feel like you just jump from a table but anyway back to the story.

As you opened the windows the curtains wave dramatically and looking at the drop it wasn't that high so you just jump from there feeling the air and breeze through your face until you hit the floor on both of your toes and just walk as if you just didn't jump from a high building that could definitly kill any normal being.

Your now at the agency and once you entered this is what you see.

A white haired boy on his knees holding something that look like a bomb, poor Tanazaki being taken down by Kunikida which his expressions show rage and frustration to a laughing Dazai.

The scene was fucking weird as it is and you just walking in just made it more akward as it is and since you don't wanna deal with this shit you legit just went in the window open it and jump everyone was scared because they know they will get their ass whoop by Fukuzawa if his wife is hurt or because there worried about you still its those reasons.

Well you didn't have the mind or brain to process on what you did so you just accepted on what would happen plus worst case scenario you having broken bones.

Fortunately you were saved and was now on someones arms and it was your one and only hubby.

"Hell hubbs" you said cheerly as if you just didn't drop from another high building "Hi love would you mind telling me on why you just drop from above?" He asked "Eh something happened and i dont know what to do" You answered he just nodded on what you said as he drop you on to your feet and both of you went inside and you dashed into his office not wanting to be in the shit that you had walked in.

Day went well and you were just on the office chilling until you and Fukuzawa went home.

Well it was a weird day but you found out that it was an exam and the white hair guy was a new member of the agency and the next day you immidiately greeted him and just fell in love to the point you decided that you will love this boy like its your son well i dont how Fukuzawa felt because he got weirded out since you were trying to cook chazuke but he didn't mind since you do what you want and there is nothing for him to do.

dazai pouts at her comment, with the female snickering at his crestfallen expression. "i'm kidding. you're a gentleman. i just didn't expect this from you." she smiles as they continue to walk in the direction of her home. she still had to pick up yumeno from gin's place after all.

dazai contemplates asking her his question for a moment, unsure if he would get a positive response. he decides against his doubt. "then if possible," he pauses, warily gazing into her [e.c] irises.

"what is it?"

".. could we do this again?" he murmurs. hesitation crept onto her face, worry and doubt edging through within a mirror like image of herself.

"dazai, you understand that i -"

"don't do love, yes, i know. you've told me that like, twice now," he sighs as he attempts to hide his disappointment. he stopped walking by this point, making the female stop abruptly so. [name] gives him a moment to recollect himself, noticing how his hand seemed to tremble the slightest bit. he appeared nervous. which was unlike of the man, seeing how she was used to his calm, almost smug and carefree persona.

"at first i thought i didn't even know id be able to feel that again," he continues. the female blinks at him, frowning slightly.

"but i guess i was wrong."

"you're telling me you have feelings for me?"

"how else am i going to describe it?"

she bites her lip upon the upcoming question waiting to be spewed from her mouth. she was afraid of what his answer was going to be.

"do you see yourself with me for the long run?"

"yes." dazai gives an answer almost immediately. he didn't hesitate. as if he was expecting her to ask him that. it caught [name] off guard, removing her hold on his arm as her face flushes to the slightest shade of red.

for once, the [h.c] haired female was rendered speechless. dazai took her silence as a bad sign and continued to spew words that came onto his mind.

"i mean, i enjoy being with you. i like spoiling you. i feel like i've bonded with yumeno too. and if you'd let me," he clears his throat, preparing himself if he were to be rejected.

"i want to become some kind of father figure for him." [name] stares at him with astonishment. his eyes showed utmost sincerity. she might even say he was way more flustered than her at this point.

"you'd do that for us?" he nods, linking his arms with her once again and saunters forward. unbeknownst to him, a small gentle smile curled up on her lips.

"in that case, i'd love to go on another date with you."

dazai doesn't spare her a glance - he didn't want her to see the blossoming flush on his face. he didn't know why, but he felt his chest enter a frenzy state of ecstasy.

how dazai wished he could capture this moment. face flushed and lips agape in shock. she looked adorable all flustered.

"w-what was that for?"

"a goodnight kiss. on the forehead," he grins. he'd have to thank oda for suggesting such a romantic gesture to end the night. it really was unlike him, but he was willing to do small changes. all for her.

"how charming." she moves to unlock the door.

"well, thank you aga-" she was quickly cut off as a small push of force nearly knocked her off her feet, dazai placing a hand on the small of her back to help maintain her balance.

"woah! im sorry!!" exclaimed yumeno. he seemed to have ran from somewhere all the to the front door, gin followed closely behind, giving an apologetic gaze towards the female.

"sorry [name], he got all excited when you called to pick him up."

"it's alright. thanks again so much for sparing time to care of this lil' brat," she ruffles the messy two-toned locks of yumeno.

"don't mention it. i don't do much other than tend to my brother's home. he's always at work. he basically married to it already." she hands [name] yumeno's doll.

"almost forgot this."

[name] gives a small smile. "i'll give you your payment once i get this one home first, okay?"

"by all means, take your time. i'm not going anywhere. i'm always here if you need someone to watch over him." gin waves a small goodbye as [name], along with yumeno are escorted back into their home by dazai.

[name] lets yumeno go in first, leaning against the door frame to bid dazai a farewell.

"this is me," she pauses, leaning up to plant a small kiss near the corner of his lips. she pulls away, smiling at his flabbergasted expression. he looked much cuter this way.

"good night, dazai."

the brunette saunters away from the steps of [name]'s home, passing by gin's place, waving to the woman. "i take it that things went well?" she points to the corner of her lips, noticing the little stain of lipstick smudged on his own. dazai makes no move of removing the little smudge of red on his face, grinning at the younger akutagawa sibling.

"you could say that. still need payment for being nanny for a day?"

she waves his comment offhandedly. "i suggest leaving [name] to take care of it. believe me, she'll probably fight you over this."

"well, you're not entirely wrong."

"she prides herself being a single independent mom. she's just that kind of person. she's really great."

dazai nods, agreeing with her words.

[name] was simply one of a kind.

"so are you guys official yet or what?" akutagawa asks, voice slightly muffled as he had his phone in between his shoulder, hands busy with stirring a bowl filled with cookie dough.

"nope. but she agreed to go on another date. still a win for me," dazai echoes. he believed he made good progress. she was all chipper and relaxed.

"i think i'm making good changes - progress? i hope." akutagawa hums in approval. "gin told me about it yesterday when you both stopped by to get yumeno. i happen to think you did well since twelve years-"

"hey, you shush with that!" dazai silences akutagawa before he could drawl on about his previous dating experience. "i'm fine with taking the compliment instead, thank you very much." he continues, sarcasm dripping in his words.

he hears the younger male snicker over the other line. "yeah, okay. whatever you say."

"anyway, are you gonna stop by?"

"well, duh. i'm baking something right now though. shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes."

"great," dazai replies. "make sure to save some chocolate chip for me though. i'll be getting home a little late."

"alright, see you then."

"what is it?" dazai communicates through his telecom.

"sir, there appears to be a woman looking for you. a woman named [name] [last name]." dazai nearly sprints out of his office as soon as he heard his secretary utter her name. he made quick, long strives to the elevator to get to the ground floor.

he sees that she was standing idly near the reception desk, anxiety and distress were apparent on her features. they quickly dissipated once her eyes met with dazai. "d-dazai!" she moves closer to him, all jittery laced with alarm.

"[name], what's the matter?" he inquires with care, worry evident on his face as he runs a hand up and down her arm to calm her down.

"can we please talk about it somewhere private?" her voice was small as she requested the brunette for a much more less crowded place. dazai didn't say another word, opting to take her with him to his office instead.

the pair were silent, advancing through the halls until they've reached his office. once they've reached it, dazai closes the door and sits down on one of his office couches, gesturing to [name] to sit beside him. she walked over in the spur of the moment, crawling over to his lap, head buried in his chest as she takes a deep breath. she seemed so distraught, dazai noted. he'd have to let her relax a bit more before he could ask questions.

he had wrapped his arms around her, comforting her in a sense of saying she'd be safe in his arms. no one could harm her. they stayed in that position for a few minutes before she decided to speak up.

"i.. i didn't think i'd see him again." "who?"

"yumeno's father .." she replies somber in a whisper. her lips trembled as she continued. "i-i thought that he'd m-move somewhere else! b-but .. i saw him. i saw him with his- his wife .." she takes another deep inhale of air to calm her nerves.

"but why are you so shaken at this? could you please explain?" dazai asks, running a hand through [h.c] locks, tugging away at tangled hair. he hoped it would somehow calm and distract her enough to explain.

"it was a while ago. i had gotten in a relationship with this guy. i fought for him, you know?" a few tears escaped her eyes. "but i was too stupid. too dumb. i'd fallen for him more than he had for me." she wipes off her fallen tears with aggression, furious at the fact she still spared tears for the man.

dazai remained silent, only tightening his hold on her at her fragile state.

"i didn't mean for any of it to go that far. we were .. so careful. i was so young back then, i didn't realize. then i had yumeno. i thought he'd be happy for me. the only thing was," she pauses, choking back a sob waiting to spill out. "i didn't know he had a wife. i only found out a few months after i had yumeno. he had lied about everything. to both me and her. he's abandoned me. he wanted to take yumeno from me and i .."

[name] stopped, her form shaking with eyes shut tight. she couldn't bare going on. dazai takes her head and places it against his shoulder, placing one hand on her back to rub comforting circles around it. her muffled cries and tears stained his blazer, but he couldn't care much about it in this moment.

"you're scared they might try taking yumeno from you again?"

he feels her shake her head. "i was positive i was done with them. i thought they'd just move on and forget about it. or maybe i'm just being paranoid .." she mutters.

"i just wishes yumeno had a better family for a happier life."

"hey," dazai cups her cheek, tilting her head up to meet his eyes. "don't say that. i assure you, yumeno is far better off with you than those two. " he reassured.

"he's more than lucky to have you." his soft tone and look of fondness had the woman in his arms shaken to her core. her tears had dried up, chest swarming with an emotion she'd describe as yearning.

"listen, i get if you don't want to, but i still stand by what i said," dazai spoke carefully. "you could always come live with me. you won't have to work at that club anymore."

"dazai, i .."

"you don't have to if you don't want to," he places one hand on her left shoulder. "i'm always here for you."

she stares right back at him with an emotion he couldn't perceive. he sighs, mulling over his words. "before you say that you're 'just going to be a burden', believe me, you're not. and you won't ever be."

"i want you to understand that i'm in love with you." he let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. dazai squirmed a bit in his seat, uncomfortable with the fact that he didn't know what she was thinking.

"y-you're in love with me?" before dazai could respond, she spewed out words that came to her mind, too overwhelmed.

"why? why me? i've been so rude to you and disrespectful. i -" dazai makes the move of cupping her jaw, successfully silencing her worrisome train of thought.

"you make me feel all kinds of things. my  heart aches for you. it's been a while, you know? pining over you," he chuckles.

"i feel them everyday. i sure as hell don't want it to stop."

the female makes the move of placing a chaste kiss on his lips, moving them ever so softly. they molded splendidly against his. it wasn't a way to silence the talkative brunette, nor was it intense or too rough. it was loving. filled with ardor and raw emotion.

he felt her warmth all over.

he wanted more of it.

actually gonna compile my current thoughts; slight spoilers below cut

- having watched all the main series i can say RANPO IS MY #1 FAVE!!!!! i love how whenever i see him i go "yayyy it's ranpo yippeeee" and i love how i share this trait with a vast amount of the cast himself included. watching this show @ the same time as reading wha and loving beldarut sm is making me realize how much i love characters who are immensely powerful and also a consummate silly billy. hes everything i wanna be. i too want a government salary & to spend it on snacks

- i also love kunikida sm he feels like if riddle & trey were one guy. i am ALSO so glad he has not been killed yet. every kunikida-centric episode felt like the anime equivalent of a dead wife flashback and i kept bracing for him to die at the end of every season 💀

- i'm also grateful for the rlly small amount of mcd in general; i feel like esp in earlier seasons that would have given the story an emotional tone that it wasn't rlly set up to handle well

- i feel bad saying this but i wish i liked atsushi more 😭 i do like him plenty but it's not proportional to his prominence in the show which is prob why i didn't like season 1 v much; he felt like a p generic shonen protag

- ALSO feel bad saying this but i did not like nikolai's voice acting v much (i watched the japanese; he might be great in the dub idk). the character slew so hard but his voice esp the more maniacal lines felt deficient in pussy 😭💔

- i kept thinking fyodor had azul's voice actor. even after i looked it up and found that they r different.

- thank you so much kyouka for being one of the only well written female characters esp earlier before yosano got her character development. i want justice for higuchi especially 😭

- maybe this is controversial but i loved all the suicide jokes. dazai felt like a rlly honest portrayal of what it's like being suicidal p much all one's life & the fact that hating yourself/wanting to die absolutely does not always translate to gloom & self-effacement

- on that note and . this might come out mean but since it is such a "he's just like me fr. oh that is absolutely not a good thing"-heavy story i do think it requires some sophistication & critical thinking that is not handed to u outright. like you might watch it & think "these characters feel the same way i do & are dangerously unwell; i must be fucking insane" however they do rlly drill in the "yet we all keep living & working anyway", so i think viewers who feel this way r meant to ask themselves what sanity is, how much of the world secretly feels unwell & othered, etc. instead of jumping right to "i am irredeemable and/or clinically disturbed"

- anyway lmfao. i was shook to find out the manga didn't have [much] more 😭 v happy to see more fyodor lore though; i'm excited for the next installment!!

- speaking of fyodor!! i like him. as i mentioned dostoevsky is one of my fav writers irl and i do like the character! i liked the references (teases being a demon/possessed; nikolai as a kirillov parallel was hilarious; i do wonder if the references to fyodor being "underground" was meant to reference notes from underground which would. also be funny bc the proverbial underground is absolutely not what that book is about lmfao)

- conflicted bc i enjoyed scenes with mori (he has crowley's va!!!) howsoever i will be popping the biggest bottles when he dies, hopefully as gruesomely as possible 🙏

- akutagawa was just funny after a while im so sorry dude 😭 he was broody & secretive for five minutes and afterward was like "I HAVE DADDY ISSUES" every single time he appeared

- i wasn't gonna look for the light novels until i read on the wiki that they have an hg wells character who is a crossdressing woman & whose ability is the time machine; i love that novel sm and ummmmm👁👄👁

- I LOVE JOUNO!! HE REMINDS ME OF JADE!! I HOPE WE GET MORE OF HIM SOON!!!!!!!

General not a surprise- F/M a bit of a surprise. i didnt think i wrote that much. i tend to hate writing any relationships tbh so i stay far from writing it but there i am but then again most my ships i like are husband and dead wife (lara and victor for example) so i wont be surprised if most stuff is like that or gifts.....

Yeah im more or less active in these. because 4 games i really like. thing is about xillia - its mostly xillia 2 stuff (perhaps 1 fix isnt) and thats not my favorite game and i really go and come back to it so even if i write a berseria fic one day i go back and write an xillia 2 so that number is high for that reason.
