Day 29: Defiance: of Gender, of Expectations

Heyya @desi-lgbt-fest! Kinda late again, but here is a prompt submission 😊

You know, being an Indian girl, you got to meet certain expectations, like being quiet, wearing only feminine clothing, not use curse words, don't be loud and rowdy, and the list of nonsensical restrictions goes on.

I did have a lot of questions about such things as a kid, and I stood out quite a lot because I loved stuff that boys tended to enjoy, such as motor cycles, having short hair, wearing shorts, a good brawl, etc. (Still do, though!)

As I got older, I expressed my personal preferences to my parents and rebelled against them, like getting a masculine haircut, swearing (only when necessary, of course), and taking up Judo.

Through the years, my parents got used to me being me, mostly because they understood. For instance, my mom knows I get a little cranky if I don't get my hair trimmed at the barbers, especially during summertime.

Recently, my mom joined me in my jacket collection! So far, it has mostly been denim since I take up after my dad, but I got myself a lovely leather jacket straight out of the men's section because why the heck not.

Other than being masculine, there are times I tend to be feminine, such as wearing kurtis and hoping to wear the saree I once wore during my farewell but with freshly trimmed hair, a rather bold move that I hope to achieve someday.

Nowadays, I get a lot of heads turning towards my direction because I embraced myself by defying gender and societal expectations. And boy, does it feel so good.

Weekend Update - 03/17/2024 (on 03/18/2024)

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️ This format will be a bit abbreviated this week. It’s been rough for me the last few week with work especially and life somewhat.

I think in sharing a small portion of what some of my days have looked like the last few months (mainly violent patients, disrobing patients, family members bringing drugs and other contraband into the hospital, a man arguing with security in a diaper) and still being expected to finish your shift and be ready to come back in a day or two, any of these single events might be a lot for some.

One silver lining, mama Nerdie has life advice: “Watch some Pedro and forget about old man balls.” Words I never thought I would hear her say but also words to live by. 🤣🤣🤣

For me they’ve become weekly. 😑 When I read it all together I realized it was a lot but it was a lot. Do I see a lot every week? I think I’m desensitized 😵‍💫 I’m kinda concerned but also it helps me function so…

Anyway, due to the above, my fic rec section will be shorter, what I put out this week is definitely shorter and the week of 03/24 and 03/31, there won’t be a weekend update from me as I am taking a well earned I think, vacation. 😎 Yay!

I should have my March Prompts scheduled through 3/31 and my Ezra series should continue through the end of March as well. I plan to continue Ezra, my fluffy Din series and Wedding Dieter series in April. 😘 Likely mid to late April as a heads up.

I can't believe people are mad that people think that Jason wouldn't like Swift. We know: Poison Idea; Slipknot; Lacuna Coil and maybe Cheap Trick. (And of course the fictional Eric Peters (real Eric Peters wasn't active this point) and Rebel Kind). Now, could a rock/metal guy enjoy Taylor? Sure. But I don't think that guy is Jason. I could see maybe Adia Victoria or someone like that in terms of country Jason might like. Jason just doesn't seem like much of a pop guy (and I am saying this as a person who like metal and some pop - not Swift - although of Jason's bands I'm only a Slipknot fan)

I think people also might confuse thinking a song has a vibe that matches the character and what the character would reasonably listen to.

But anyway... I think people should headcanon whatever, it's just that any given headcanon may be more or less closely "grounded" on canon, and that's okay.

Hellll yes!! :p (don't worry about it, everything's fine)

Sera and Emily are in the conglomerate of zones that are under military leadership. All of the zones have a sort of "peace" with each other, but most are overseen by military presence with several exceptions (ie Vegas and St. Louis). Sera is more or less the "top" overseer of "all" of the zones regardless of military affiliation while Emily is one of her subordinates who was put over the Denver zone. There's a lot of complex power plays kind of all happening at the same time with remaining pieces of civilization, but all of the zones still have the same purpose of keeping humanity alive so they tend to work together. Though most zones are still under military rule.

Currently we know zone leaders to be:

Lucifer - (unknowingly former) Military General over San Diego

Alastor - Rebel leader of Vegas

Vox - Leader of St. Louis (non-military)

Emily - Lieutenant over Denver (potentially in question)

Sera - Leader of ALL zones. Head of the board that dictates expectations for the zones. Located in Boston.

Adam - (former) General over Vegas

Other zone leaders I've settled on that aren't spoilery:

Asmodeous/Ozzie - General over Chicago

Beelzebub/Bee -(former) Brigadier General over San Fransisco

Mammon - Colonel over Phoenix

Leviathan/Levi - (former) Lieutenant General over Los Angeles

Belphegor/Bel - General over Helena

Satan - Brigadier General over Austin

Zestial - (former) General over Seattle

Carmilla - (former) Major General over Spokane

There are others that may come up, but tada! The Sins are around! We just haven't met any of them yet :) Other Overlords are around too, but everyone listed are kind of the big ones. Emily actually mentioned Bee in Denver, but didn't specify which zone.

As for OC's, I don't have any specific ones in this fic. I've included some more 'NPC' characters (ie everyone except Niffty that was involved with Husk's quest in Vegas) that aren't canon to the show, but there hasn't been a fully fleshed out OC and I'm not sure if there really will be. I love my OC's, but I'm trying to keep it to canon characters in this fic :)

Last movie/TV show: I promise I'm not always this predictable, but I was just watching Radio Rebel for my video script, and last night I was watching MBAV because I was getting screenshots 👀

Last thing I Googled: "simple interest formula" because I missed a day of math class and was struggling when studying for my final (math is hard >.<)

Sweet/Savory/Spicy: I'm gonna say spicy! I've been very addicted to spicy food this past few months. Specifically very salty spicy foods like chips and ramen so I guess it's a bit of both!

Current Obsession: it feels really lame to say Radio Rebel or MBAV so 😭 I'm gonna say the album Youngblood by 5sos. I hated! the album when it came out in 2018, but recently I've really grown to like it! I rlly am obsessed lol

6. What’s one fact about the universe of [insert fic] that you didn’t get a chance to mention in the fic itself?

earlier I was thinking about the Rebels Swap fic I wrote, so I'm gonna pick that one 😎 something I think is cool that I didn't get a chance to mention in it is that the swaps don't just reach the Ghost crew - it's also an AU where Anakin is Fulcrum and Ahsoka is Lady Tano, among many other things >:) (I know you know that but shhhh)

18. If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it involve?

if I wrote a sequel to something . . . let's go with Rebels Swap again. hmm well the ending to that one isn't actually how I think the AU would end, so a sequel fic would probably focus on that (coughcoughKananlives) and maybe the events of the Ahsoka show? Which I guess would be the Anakin show?? XD
