My colleagues are accidentally gaslighting me for two days now and I don't know if MY communication skills are atrocious or theirs but holy hell.

Yesterday I found out that stuff they should have deployed in August was not live yet, so I called them and it went something like this:

Them: "What? No we haven't deployed anything."

Me: "But you wrote the code for it. Can we just deploy that now please?"

Them: "No we didn't write that. That was your job."

Me: "What? I SAW the code. YOU wrote the code! I did QA for it. It's active on these three servers. It exists."

Them: "If it exists, you must have written it."

Me: "I don't even know that programming language?!? That's the one YOU use. I only write Python, Java, C++ and Javascript."

Them: "No, that was definitely your job."

So then I was confused as fuck because I am 1000% sure I know they wrote it because I READ THE CODE at the time they did it to check if everything I need is in there.

But what can I do if they say it doesn't exist and won't send it to me, and say it's my job? I painstakingly wrote it myself in a language I don't "speak". And because I don't really knew if what I was doing was syntactically sound, I sent it to them to double-check it. Not the logic, mind you, just the syntax.

Which leads us to today:

Them: "You're not supposed to write that, we already have that code."

Me: "What the FUCK have we been talking about yesterday, then????"

Them: "No, we wrote it but you were supposed to deploy it."

Me: "I was? Okay, I don't remember that, but I can believe that I may have forgotten about that since August - mostly because you never send me the code. I remember reading over it via screen-sharing."

Them: "Oh yeah, that's true. We sent it to the CEO directly."

So TLDR; I've been wasting time and chasing ghosts for 1,5 work days and written shit in another programming language just to throw it away again because we already HAD that code, WHICH I KNEW TO BEGIN WITH but was gaslighted out of knowing lol

And just to clarify: That is what I understood, that is obviously not what they SAID. They clearly thought we were talking about deployment when I was talking about coding. Tbh I think we're all equally at fault here.

So to answer your question.

I think that really depends on you lol, I know you came here asking for a second opinion, but I feel like this really is just asking what type of tone and what type of plot beats you want to hit with that tone. Also im probably not the best person to be asking this to see as I’m biased because—

I am personally not someone who likes modern AUs. I feel like characters can easily get washed out by the setting. A lot of times, I feel like the modern setting is just creating characters that I have to relearn about when I come to fanfiction to play around with characters in a setting that I already know. It's lazy, but so am I. It doesn't mean modern AUs can't be amazing; I just don't usually look for them.

Also, I like magic and the fantastical, so having that taken away isn't interesting to me. Sure, it can be a good character study, but I feel it takes away the sort of tone from the original and adds another tone to it, which again isn't bad. It really depends on you! Do you like modern AUs and feel it will add something to your fic? Well then, go right ahead.

But being biased as I am, I do believe this is going to be more about what type of tone you want to set for this. Do you want it to be a sort of fish out of water situation? What could happen if life was better? Just confusing the heck out of Zoro and having bundles of misunderstandings? This I believe can be achieved with either or.

You could even go the horror route, Zoro dropped into a world he doesn't understand with people who are like his people but slightly to the left. A world slightly to the left, no Haki, a different type of world government, rules, and regulations he doesn't understand, technology he doesn't comprehend, even thinking about public school and mandatory education, as well as a body very different than he's used to, etc.

But I also feel like that could take away from the badassness that is Mihawk and Shanks and just puts Zoro with two guys. Like these aren't the Warlord of the Sea and Yonko of Paradise he knows; sure, they share the same face and some mannerisms, but it's just Greg and Dave from accounting. Or maybe you want that. Maybe you want that dissonance that the man I know who beat me, who played me, who will not hesitate to kill me, is maybe in another life, in another world, sweet and kind and loving. Or maybe you want it closer to home? Instead of a modern AU, maybe you want to confuse baby Zoro's memory, that his memories have him realize that, oh, this man would not treat me this way if I were not his son.

Again, I am biased, so take this with a grain of salt. Sometimes, when I'm stuck on questions like this, I'll go find someone I trust and talk out the story and the beats I want to hit. Hey, you can even come to my messages. Just rant to me about it, and eventually, the answer will present itself.

Anyways, hope my general malaise and unconnected rambles helps in anyway. Also, I really like your fic. The idea is bat shit insanely creative and I adore bad shit it’s such an amazing idea. 10/10 will be listlessly waiting for more updates.

hello you said if anybody wants stories from your ballet years to ask so i am asking :D

Hiii! For a little context, I started doing ballet when I was two and quit when I was a teen. Did it permanently mess up my legs because of being pushed too hard and starting on pointe shoes long before my body was developed enough? Yes. Would I do it again in a heartbeat if I could? Also yes!

Now for the fun part lol

On stage, every one is all graceful and stuff right? Backstage we are man spreading on the floor with our skirts flipped up, devouring Doritos like we will die tomorrow.

I was doing a show where we had to lift a girl up on cables while the rest of us were doing other stuff on stage below her. One time during our final performance she didn't get hooked in correctly and fell after being raised just above our heads. And I FUCKING CAUGHT HER PERFECTLY. She was quite a bit smaller than me and I just happened to be directly below her when it happened.

We played an insane game of telephone with everyone in the performer's lounge (which at the stage I mainly performed at was literally just the basement with like ten metal folding chairs) in which the final sentence was "Santa's asscrack smells of cheese"

The tradition of the aforementioned stage was to kiss the wall in the basement before you went on stage for good luck, so every wall was covered in old lipstick marks

I've had to do quick changes in under five minutes, which included running down to the basement, completely changing your stage makeup and hair, switching your costume, and then running upstairs again to get in place backstage

As a build up to a finale in a solo piece, I was doing a very high side grand battement en pointe (really high side kick while standing on my toes) and I fell down into the splits. I just lost balance and fell right on to my leg, and I am not a small person so it hurt a lot because I have a long way to fall lol. Luckily it was only a dress rehearsal, so I was able to get myself back up and take it again from the top.

After the curtain closes after the curtain call/the grand finale if you don't do the curtain call, everyone is tackling each other and partying

I have more, but it's very late as I'm writing this and I don't have the energy lol. I will say this, though. I would NEVER recommend ballet to anyone. I only shared the good stories, but there is a very good reason I quit. You have to bite and claw to get anywhere good, and believe me I fought hard for every solo and every role I got. I spent all of my evenings at the studio or practicing at home, and it's practically a job of it's own. The spaces are largely abusive and every instructor I've ever had has been one of the worst people I've ever met. It's also one of the reasons that I'm currently disabled.

However? I genuinely loved it and I wish I could go back. For me, dancing felt like flying and the music echoed through my aching bones and the experience and joy of it all made it worth it. I could get up on stage and suddenly I wasn't a lonely kid with a fucked up home life and abusive grandparents who were actively trying to kill me. I was free and I could just forget everything that I had been carrying on my shoulders, even if it was just for a moment to dance.

So weird vent but the whole drama with James Somerton is making me think about this more and more and I just gotta write it out at this point.

So, he deletes comments, i know this because he deleted one of mine. It was on the shipping video responding to the end or it when he started taking about RPF. I believe he made a point about how companies often have their idols queerbait cause #straight women are more comfy with male idols having sex with other men because it "doesn't count" so the idol maintains virginity (NOTE this is me paraphrasing by memory i was literally going rewatch or read the transcript but it is completely gone now holy shit).

But ya, because i'm a huge bts fan i wanted to give my thoughts on what he said about kpop and those problematic games on variety shows would make idols play that were designed to make them accidentally kiss. My comment was basically (again paraphrased from memory)

"Ya it's sucks that idols have to do queerbait-ey things," note the I meant talking about the aforementioned games not anything that would come down to cultural differences like the standard of how affectionate men can be with each other, "especially considering there have to be closeted idols who are queer (but we shouldn't be speculating ppl's sexualites) who are scared to come out because it would jeopardize their careers (not to mention they live in a very conservative country) but then all of a sudden they have to almost kiss their friends/groupmates"

In my comment I wanted to emphasize a fuck the industry cause in general I don't like the whole accusing real ppl of queerbaiting cause even in seemingly cut and dry scenarios like what I've described that person could still be queer and in an even shittier position than their straight counterparts who have to do that crap.

But I digress. Cause I swear the comment wasn't inflammatory at all I didn't name any idols or groups. Just a typical opinion that was left open to discussion. And it confused me on why he deleted it. Now I never tried to get an answer b/c I am of the belief that getting blocked or having a comment deleted is a hint and you should take it. But I'd be lying if i said that whenever that James comes up I don't think "what about that comment bothered him so much?"

Maybe I made a massive typo and accidentally said that we should speculate idols sexualities and I accidently called for a campaign of outing celebrities in a youtube comment section

Maybe I was too unnuanced with the whole no speculation point. Like, if an artist puts queer imagery in their work in a "if you get it you get it" kind of way towards queer fans. Is it problematic if queer fans pick up on the clues, does coming out only count if straight ppl can understand it etc etc. But still I feel like he could have just replied instead of deleting the whole thing. Again wasn't an aggressive comment very much open to discussion.

But he just deleted it. I wasn't mad just confused, still confused. Now that he's been figuratively exposed at every single angle I'm even more confused.

Mentoring has been a trip also, its really fun to observe how people go about their first moments on the grid. Last night had someone almost give up till we talked them off the ledge XD For me it was always easy and intuitive to pick up SL was not too hard. But a lot of people just want to start experiencing and connecting and dont care for the technical stuff! It really means a lot to me to be able to make things easier for folks so they have a chance to enjoy the things we all enjoy about Secondlife.

Lmao people will literally be naked all the time but not even their fault they just get stuck trying to change. There are changing rooms, but people dont usually bother to walk to them even if we offer to take them there. I usually just direct them to where they can switch the default avatar so they find clothes quicker.

But omg, this one person kept switching into all kind of random forms that were highly disproportionate you can kinda see ... and then this female had a random bt plug just chillen there. THEY DONT SPEAK. which is the funniest part becacuse you cant tell what the hell is going on. They just start doing weird things to simulate "the act" XD im like " yes we love all expressions here on sl and there are designated places for that! " & they actually do listen to me. Can't believe I'm making another post about Adf*y in 2021 but here we go...

I'm sure you all know the new adf*y page which (i'm pretty sure) adf*y skipper can't skip anymore, the one where it asks to send notifications and won't let you proceed until you let them send notifications.

I accidentally just allowed one of these notifications (not at home and using a janky mouse on a pillow, keeps going crazy), so I immediately headed to my chrome settings to get rid of it.

I'm going through blocking everything before I delete it (just so I feel better about it truly being gone lol) and I see this:

I'm thinking, what the hell is a payment handler and why is it set to allow?? That super doesn't sound good... And after some googling I find yeah, it's probably not great.

So, what's a payment handler? Basically, it's when google saves your payment details to autofill later on when you're making an online purchase. So that includes your credit card, debit card, paypal, ect, details. (Source - askcybersecurity.com) Now these are usually fine on legitimate sites but this site specifically:

You just google 'christianivory.pro' and every result is how to get rid of it because it's malware. (That picture was after I cleared the cookies it had already stored, no idea what they were)

(btw, I wouldn't recommend clicking on any of these since malware/viruses are often hidden behind fake anti-malware ads/programs)

Luckily I don't keep any of my payment details saved so I'm pretty sure I'm fine after deleting it and MalwareBytes or Windows Defender hasn't detected anything. I can't say for sure what it would have done if I hadn't of deleted it, it seems to mostly be notification spam but the fact that it was trying to access my payment methods doesn't sound all that great. Even if having the payment methods allowed doesn't do shit, I've had money stolen from me through an adf*y virus before (source - my tumblr)

Like I said, I'm pretty sure I got lucky because I don't save those things but I'm going to offer a hypothetical situation which could be extremely likely in our community specifically;

Lets say I'm a 14 year old simmer who uses their parents computer to play the sims. I've recently discovered custom content and my favourite creator uses adf*y, but since I'm young and new to the community I have no idea that adf*y can be bad and I trust this creator so they would never link me to anything that could harm my computer... right? So I accept that adf*y notification and don't think anything of it, I get the CC I really like and I'm happy. But that notification I just accepted has saved my parents credit card details. I'm sure you can guess where the rest of this situation goes.

So this is me, creator to creator, telling you need to stop. I know finding a source of income can be awful right now, but your source of income could be coming at the expense of someone else who did not agree to this.

If you think your content is worth a price then I urge you to start a Patreon, Ko-Fi or even a paypal because these are platforms that are safe for both parties and are OPTIONAL. Adf*y is not optional for the downloader.

Stop putting the younger and more susceptible people in our community at risk. As creators it is likely that we gain a larger following so stop taking advantage of that. Especially if you're older or are someone who preaches the safety of our younger members in this space, step up and actually practice what you fucking preach instead of just saying it for likes and reblogs.

I am genuinely sick of this, I've been in this community for over half a goddamn decade now and I've posted before about adf*y, as have dozens of other people and this shit is STILL happening.

By the same lens I define Jikook as real, I define Tae Kook or any other ship that includes JK and Jimin as not real. And by that same lens if I feel Jikook aren't together then I'm wrong and irrational?

It really confounds me.

Not sure if they expect me to apply double standards to Jikook in those instances.

I don't think there is right and wrong opinions or perspective when it comes to shipping, but I think if they are right about me being wrong about my perspective on Jikook then I must be wrong about my perspective on any other ship in BTS as well.

I can't be right about one and wrong about another. I'm either right about all or wrong about all.

I can't be 'right' about Tae Kook having 'issues' in their bond in such a way I think it often bars them from fully nurturing their bond and developing depth to it but then be 'wrong' about Jikook also having issues that mess with their bond from time to time when it's the same measurement I use in accessing the depth of bond of both ships.

I really don't understand their way of thinking.

What is right and what is wrong and who decides on that?

I think we ought to substitute right and wrong with 'believe and believable.' The approach to such discourse should be about what one is willing to believe or not believe about certain discussions: I believe this. I don't believe that. Because believes stem from our personal biases towards a subject.

And the people that come running to me with 'look, Jikook smiled at each other in On era so change your mind'

May be I'm reaching on this one. But a single post where V was not even the focus of the post... I think his birthday means a lot to him and he enjoys when people shower him with love and attention and I don't think his birthday is an exception.

And he kept reiterating after such said birthday how he recently discovered he loves to be loved and how he does most of the things he does in order to be loved by his fans, friends and family.

And it breaks my heart that, the headlines read BTS shower X, Y with love on his birthday but the two people close to him were missing from that list this time. The media talks about BTS posting for eachother as them showering eachother with love. Certainly they all know this.

And the fact Jin posted for Tae after Tae's birthday says a lot about Tae and JK. Tae had no intention of posting perhaps because he left JM a message on the packages. With Jin I feel he was overcompensating for not posting for him on his birthday...

JK gets a pass. If JM wasn't happy about him not posting for his birthday, he would have pulled a Jin.

Jimin talking about coming to the realization he loves to be loved makes me think JK withholding his affections openly made him come to the realization he loves to be loved. Just a hunch. And the only reason JK would withhold his affections is if Jimin himself estopps him. Those two give me headaches.

I think I got the closure I needed from this.

Tae been releasing photos of Jimin and Jhope a lot lately. Not sure how that makes me feel either. I think it's beautiful. But when I think about all these beautiful photos he has of Jimin on his phone and how generous he is with them- I think they would have been more meaningful had he released it on JM's birthday. The snow photo he posted still sits in my Vmin heart somewhere.
