stage - @jegulus-microfic - word count: 236
"Potter! What have you done?"
Though people often joked that Sirius was meant for the stage, what with his theatrics and flair for the arts, James knew that it was Regulus who was truly dramatic. He would never say a word about it, as he valued his bollocks in their proper place, but, as they relaxed in their flat, he had to literally bite at his lip to stop from smiling. "What is it, love?" he asked, trying not to look at Regulus too adoringly.
"These are decorative mugs, James," Regulus sighed from the doorway of the sitting room, pointing at the offending object now full of tea. "Why are you drinking out of one?"
The mug, which read, 'Two grooms are better than one,' sat innocently on the coaster James had made sure to use. "Erm. Because I like being reminded I'm married to you?" James asked, lips flickering up in a hopeful smile as he looked at his husband, who had his arms crossed and his eyes narrowed.
Immediately, Regulus melted, his body relaxing and his eyes softening into the perfect silvery grey James loved. "Oh," he whispered, looking like he, too, was trying not to smile. "Well."
James stood and walked forward, pulling Regulus into a hug, pressing a kiss into his soft, black curls, inhaling the familiar scent of his favorite person. "Any other questions, baby?"
"Just...just wash it well."
"Alright, darling."

So Regulus writes poetry, everyone knows that.
HOWEVER!
Few talk about the absolute filth that is his secret erotic poetry.
Sirius one day found his journal and glanced bc of how fucking nosy he is and immediately regretted it.

Hi! Just slipping in for a second to say that in a Modern Au, Walburga is just like any Chinese mother in a sense that she wants her children to marry Chinese people and they just don't 😀
(totally not projecting)
Okay have a nice day! :))
sirius swans off with a tall awkward white kid who doesn’t know how to use chopsticks or what oyster sauce even is whilst regulus has a swarm of respectable chinese men and women after him but regards them all with utter disdain and disgust. walburga spends her final days ripping her hair out.

the most unrealistic thing about the overprotective james series is that james is so popular with girls and always dating despite being completely obsessed with regulus . like wdym this idiot gets bitches??? his gf asks his opinion on her new jacket and james tells her how well it'd suit regulus, she shows him this new eyeshadow she bought and james can only think about how it's the exact shade of regulus' eyes, she wants him to come over and "sure babe but can regulus come too?"

I hope the attribute points system in da:2 is a little bit more transparent than da:o bc it's virtually impossible for me to guess what's affecting what... (can't remember at all what it was in dai)

a very passionate ramble about Regulus Black bc i have The Brainrot
TW: fictional suicide
one of the many things the just *gets* me when i think about the intersection between canon reg and like fanon reg is, if we look at things from a canon-compliant perspective, reg went into that cave knowing he would die. At the very least knowing he might. When people talk about regulus they say oh "he redeemed himself at the end" and "he made the right choice" but. no he didn't. the right choice in that situation looks like betraying voldemort, yes. But that doesn't mean a suicide mission. And for anyone other than regulus it wouldn't have. He could have gone to his brother, to James, god forbid to DUMBLEDORE. The right choice was to find a way to get into contact with the Order, through Sirius or directly. But he couldn't. Because the greatest tragedy of Reg's story is that he never had anywhere -- anyone -- to go to. Regulus killed himself. He was eighteen, he was alone, and he didn't just "do the right thing in the end." No, he killed himself. Deliberately and intentionally. After being made into a child soldier, after being left alone, after having nowhere to fucking go, he fucking killed himself. Now that's heartbreaking. That's tragedy.
And I think about how in OOTP Sirius has no kind words to say about Regulus, and i think about Regulus slicing his hand open and opening the cave with Black family blood and not saying goodbye. And i just, can't think of a reason Regulus would do that if not for Sirius.
I doubt it was a moral awakening like this kid was fully socialized to be a bigot, and idk maybe something woke him up. But when I think about it, the only real motivation i can think of for Regulus to betray the death eaters and the family that he stuck with despite everything, is because of Sirius. Because his brother was on the other side of a war Regulus had just discovered was unwinnable. So he kills himself because he betrays voldemort for Sirius, but he doesn't say goodbye, he doesn't try and find a way to live through it, to ask for help. Regulus dies in that cave because he wants to.
(and this is where the fanon lore comes in)
I think about regulus dying in that cave because he chose to, and i think he felt like he'd finally paid off a debt to his brother. I think he felt like he'd finally been brave enough to do what Sirius had done for him, to take the hit, take the curse, take the hurt so that his brother didn't have to. I think regulus died in that cave and thought he didnt have a life worth living, he didn't have anyone to live for. I think he was hopeless and trapped and at peace, because he finally found a way to take care of his brother.
This is why i can't stand Reg anti's, because they will really look at this broken boy, a child soldier who killed himself before he was old enough to know what living looked like. A kid who never had anywhere to go. Who never made a single choice he wasn't forced to until he chose to die. They will look at that kid, and laugh at the idea that James Potter could ever love him. And it makes my blood boil.

i am once again thinking about the hilichurl rogue :(
the first time i fought it was actually yesterday after climbing a mountain in fontaine cause i wanted to see what it was and the drops really reminded me of neanderthal flower burials + how both neanderthals and hilichurls are/have been seen as primitive beings despite tons of evidence to the contrary (ignoring what we know about khaenri'ah since the curse of the wild seems to cause them to be catatonic for a period of time).
theres tons of literature on how neanderthals actually appear to be similar to homo sapiens and have higher mental functioning as evidenced through their tools, their presumed social structures (taking care of injured/disabled neanderthals rather than abandoning them as would be thought of beings focused only on survival), but most notably for this the evidence of "flower burials" at Shanidar.
Basically, two neanderthals were found buried in primarily medicinal flowers (indicating their possible role in their group). I believe there were 11(?) other neanderthals found there who appeared to have been crushed by rockfall whos ages (if my memory is correct) were from around 7 to mid 40s. The reason i bring this up is because of one of the flowers found at Shanidar: Achillea/Yarrows. I find these flowers to be fairly similar in appearance of the petals (excluding size) to the hilichurl rogues drops
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, each drops description:
A Flower Yet to Bloom "a wildflower that a hilichurl rogue treasured. it was plucked before it could bloom. the hilichurl takes nothing with it in its sojourn across the wilderness save this flower."
Treasured Flower "a wild flower that a hilichurl picked bereft of any special qualities. flowers can be used as gifts or offerings to express ones feelings in many cultures"
for this description in specific i would actually like to quote Ralph S Solecki's "The Implications of the Shanidar Cave Neanderthal Flower Burial"
"Under normal circumstances, today, in many cultures, flowers and death go together, as one can see a funeral corteges and burials. The association of flowers as tokens of esteem, respect, or for the joy of looking at [...]. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, 'the flower has been a universal symbol of beauty in the civilizations of the world. Confucius included its cultivation among the arts that were essential to a man of culture.' We pride ourselves thinking that we know a lot about Neanderthal man, but the association of flowers with Neanderthals adds a whole new dimension to our knowledge of him, and his humanistic nature."
Wanderer's Blooming Flower "a blooming wild flower that a hilichurl rogue treasured, bereft of any special qualities. the eternal outlander asks not for reward, but only to see their deeds come to fruition"
TLDR (abstract lol); hilichurl rogue drops remind me of the neanderthal flower burials found at shanidar
below the cutoff are some sources if you want to do further reading on neanderthals
(im not an anthropologist or even studying it btw but here are some articles on neanderthals i used for a bibliography on neanderthal spirituality in an anth class last winter in case you want to read up on it, theyre formatted in SAA kinda)
