Occasionally the Culture and the Affini Compact bump into each other in deep space. For the most part, the Culture is...intrigued, albeit not repulsed, by the Affini Compact's whole deal, but prefers to maintain a delineation between the two societies.
Following a few misunderstandings (involving high-powered weaponry that would make most civilisations roll over and crawl back into the sea), the GCU Shameless Exhibitionist presided over the signing of an accord amounting to "It takes all sorts to make a universe, Kumbaya, and all that", with the solemn promise that neither civilisation would try to annex the other, provided the parties follow certain stipulations.
It turns out that a small, but significant percentage of Culture citizens rather like being kept as pets, and the Affini Compact is endeared by the novelty of a spacefaring society with a standing army and a commitment to doing right by people.
Bless their hearts.

Was reading some posts about HDG, written by someone outside the community.
What absolutely struck me is the lack of understanding about how the setting works.
First and foremost, I don't care what anyone says, it's a disability narrative. All the kink, and layers of horror and imperialism is in service to the disability narrative.
Because when your body or mind do not function like you expect them to, it's fucking horrific.
It's goddamn terrifying when my legs give out climbing the stairs, it's horrifying when I lose my ability to speak when I get overwhelmed and my stutter comes out full force, when I can't move because the pain from my knee is so intense I lose vision.
Quite often when I am like that I don't want help, I don't want anyone near me, I will actively refuse assistance. This is because of pride, fear, shame, a multitude of reasons. I don't want care, but I need it nonetheless.
One of the most powerful and meaningful things my current partner has ever done for me was telling me to shut the fuck up and let her help.
I needed to be forced to let her help me, despite being in so much pain moving made me scream.
She still needs to make me take painkillers, because I won't on my own.
This kind of care is an intrinsic part of HDG, you are so hurt you can't figure out what you need, so we will do it for you, and we will make you if needed.
Additionally, at least for me, another aspect is knowing that the people you care about are being cared for too.
A huge chunk of my life and daily stress is making sure my friends and lovers are okay, making sure I have enough reserve cash if I need to support or be able to make an emergency trip, anything at all to prevent another fucking lost friend and tearful memorial before their names get added to my sad list of loss.
I *know* I am deeply traumatized by loss, by closed casket funerals, of self inflicted wounds. Because I wasn't there, or fast enough, or didn't notice the signs in time.
I have as a result made myself into the kind of person that will drop Anything to be there. To drive across the country at a moment's notice because there was a Possibility that my friend needed me.
In the world of HDG, that isn't needed, everyone is going to be cared for and safe, and I would be able to finally rest. To relax. To enjoy the beauty of my friends instead of standing watch.
And that is a disability narrative too.

would i regret asking wtf the human domestication guide is
Probably not. And people keep asking this so I might as well give the tl;dr answer:
Human Domestication Guide is a shared setting of kink stories involving Dommy-Mommy plant-aliens who want to keep humans as pets.
It's almost universally dubcon/noncon, the protagonists are nearly always trans girls, it's heavily wish fulfillment. There's drugs (space drugs! Like regular drugs, but better) and hypnosis and a lot of kink even if there's entire stories without any "sex".
It's weird but endlessly fascinating (at least to me!) setting. It zigs in a lot of places that most erotica zags, in part because it's got this heavy wish fulfillment angle where it's just "aliens show up and they give you everything you ever wanted and then you have kinky lesbian sex" but it's also unusual just for having the protagonists being mostly trans women (and I myself am mostly a trans woman).
Anyway if you're interested in learning more, the setting has a nice wiki, and a list of Foundational Works that's a good place to get started reading it. It's a surprisingly active fandom! It's only been around a couple years and it's got nearly a thousand works on Ao3.
Sometime later I'll make a longer post that goes into some more details, or I'll release that 5 hour video essay I keep threatening to make.
One final thing: 95% of all jokes about HDG are on the word "floret". That's what the plant aliens call their pets. It means "little flower" (which is very cute!) , but it's also the word for the little bits of broccoli that you eat. So it's RIPE for shitposting and memes.

HDG story recs: Ongoing mid-long length works
Some more recs of stories that aren't front page on ao3 or SUPER commonly talked about. This time focusing on stuff you can sink your teeth into as they're currently updating;
Tears of lavender by callmeprismatic: a frustrated artist creates what might be feralist propaganda, and ends up in a wardship. an absolute hidden gem in the setting, criminally under-read.
Dollhouse by PyxxieStyxx: an egg is given an invitation to a mysterious dollhouse, but they definitely arent a doll themselves, definitely not...
Root Privileges by shitpostleft: a comedic story about a failgirl affini systems admin and her friends trying to get her to go outside. inspired by the idea of affini-swapping the cast of wellness check.
Ramifaction by fuckingterrify: a lawyer has her mind slowly eroded by the biorhythms of her Affini guardian. This story does some incredibly clever things, and is one of my absolute favorite stories in the entire setting.
Artful Manipulation by floof_likes_plants: while I am known as The Pladdy Writer, I was not the first. This story was, and it rules. An irate affini surgeon ends up helping a human who gets under his skin.
Empty shell by stimulacrum: an emotionally empty Terran prison guard helps arrange a defense from the alien invaders, until it turns out the invaders aren't quite so bad.
Irregular orbits by rocketmermaid: a safety scout on an outpost long abandoned by the accord is rescued from a killer solar flare by the affini. what first appears to be gentle help may be more manpulative than it seems. depraved kink and a heartfelt story of reconciliation ensues.
Knock upper bend over by sapphicsounds: a pregnancy kink mob-boss-to-housewife story. I have beta read the full thing, and it's one of the hottest things I have ever read.
Freedom's ember by kanagen: the ramifications of No gods no masters are explored in this sequel story set 60 years later.
Golden Ladder by ashinbloom: a depressed egg is rescued from a solar flare by a strangely human affini, and must navigate life in the compact.
Alder's Prize (M/f) /Adelira's prize (F/f) by Sheepwave and 4WheelSword- Hard noncon forcefem that plays out a lot like the original HDG but with the horny turned up to 11. Has both M/f and F/f versions. it's still my list and I'm still allowed to Include one of mine, plus I cowrote it so it's only half mine.
Sol is Short for Solace by witch_freya and Fluxom: a Terran rebel on the run goes on a hitchhiking space road trip and is constantly getting fucked along the way while her future owners stalks her prey from afar. this one is depraved and i fucking love it.
Angels on her shoulder by pyxxiestyxx: One of the setting's only drone fics, a rebel is given a mysterious latex suit that connects her to an affini from afar, and has to try to get out without being caught by her insane crewmates. yeah I'm including two by my girlfriend and nobody can stop me

HDG and BPD
So Human Domestication Guide, as a setting, is very much built as comfort food for mentally ill, disabled trans folks (not judging, I'm at least two mentally ill sophonts 🤭), but one bit that didn't quite shine through to me until a moment ago is the Borderline Personality Disorder connection. More specifically, the "favorite person" phenomenon.
A floret's affini is their favorite person. They are utterly dependent on their owner, including on an interpersonal level. Thanks to biorhythms, the floret can feel what their owner feels, in a very deep, visceral way that directly influences their emotional state. They are desperate for praise and acceptance, the worst thing imaginable to them is disappointing their owner, and they often spend time gazing up at their owner in a hazy bliss, as though watching an angelic figure and being awestruck by their beauty as the rest of the world decoheres around them.
In turn, the affini is the perfect caretaker for their floret. The influence they wield over the person who adores them is typically clear and intentional. They promise to never abandon you, and they mean it in ways a real person never could, and can force you to believe them. They actually will take all that pain away from you. When you look upon them as larger-than-life, idealized entities, you're not so much putting them on a pedestal they couldn't live up to as you are accurately describing your relationship to them, and they foster that view intentionally and accurately. There is no equality between Terran and Affini.
This is, to put it bluntly, a relationship dynamic I am deeply familiar with. I have stared at someone for minutes at a time, certain that they have a halo and can do no wrong. I drove that same person away in no small part because the version of them that existed in reality kept chafing against the idea of them I was too infatuated with to get rid of. I have caught myself entering that same dangerous emotional spiral with a fellow author I've been collaborating with, thankfully quite early on.
A few harsh reminders seem necessary here.
If you seek the kind of mindless surrender a floret has from another sophont, check to make sure that the sophont you seek that from is aware of this, and make sure that you are seeing them, the person, not merely an afterimage in your head. Be careful! This dynamic is rife with opportunities for self-delusion and manipulation, and often, you cannot trust your rational brain to handle it well. I want nothing more than the absolution hinted at in Anathema in Blue chapter 4... But it would be deeply unhealthy and unethical to seek that out without dealing with some of my own baggage, or saddling the author with my perception of her author insert character.
If you are on the other side of this dynamic, particularly if you have the brand of narcissism that makes you want that kind of mindless adulation (typically talking about "Worship Kink" is a sign that you might wanna take stock, speaking from experience here), make sure you're aware of the dangerous power differential, and make sure your partner is aware of these warning signs. Being on the receiving end of an FP relationship can be incredibly rough, especially once you start to diverge from the idea of you they had in their head.
Oof. Not fun stuff.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to making a worship file based on Anathema in Blue chapter 4, because frankly this bee isn't leaving my bonnet until I process it. Have you read Anathema in Blue? Lady Lysanthae is bae.

Throughout all my life I’ve always been interested in nonhuman creatures. When I was young and my autism was in its rawest form I would often pit the ancient ancestors of animals against their modern equivalent, either in comparison or in battle(I remember doing a Rhino versus Triceratops once). As I grew older, and the internet allowed me to learn of the creatures of horror movies without being horrified, my attention shifted to that of the alien. I loved learning about the Xenomorphs and Predators, or the aliens from A Quiet Place. Recently, however, a new alien species has taken my interest, though not from horror film, but kinky horror fanfiction. I am of course, talking about the Affini from the Human Domestication Guide, created by GlitchyRobo.
The Affini of HDG are such an interesting species. Despite their peace-desiring nature we have to assume they were the top of the food chain wherever they came from. The strength to do what they do is built into their very biology. Super strength, ability to run absurd speeds, even the regeneration—their origins, whatever they are, were NOT peaceful, guaranteed. Not to mention the biological drugs that exist within them that can be used through either their flowers or needles hidden within their vines that can pierce human skin almost unnoticed. Another noteworthy trait is their ability to mimic or exist as different species of plants, like a fern Affini or a rose Affini. This level of adaptation mixed with the usage of drugs suggests that their origins could have been as prey, which would match with our known plants, unable to move from predators and thus evolving traits to deter them. The strength and speed, however, are things I’m not smart enough to explain away. Once they gained them, however—combined with their adaptation and ability to deceive using drugs, they would’ve been near unstoppable, similar to how ancient humans hunted megafauna and old predators such as the Sabertooth to extinction thanks to our newly evolved adaptive nature.
Their personality is curious, however—for a species in Post-Scarcity, I can understand the want and desire to help other aliens, including humans. But the specific pet dynamic they desire seemingly clashes with their message of helping sophonts(universal term for a non-Affini) be the best they can be. It almost seems instinctual, similar to humans and their pack-bonding ability. They desire other species to be at their peak, but refute certain things that don’t align with their idea, such as humans free will to make bad decisions at the cost of others and/or themselves. While modern human morals would agree with not wanting bad things to happen, the moderate to great usage of drugs the Affini are known for is less than acceptable.
The unfortunate fact is, any and all speculation about the Affini’s origins or why they do what they do is unknown. Given their extremely advanced technology and knowledge, it could be difficult to even know if they were a plant based species in the first place, or if becoming immortal through reblooming as vine creatures was a scientific advancement or not.
Granted, I’m analyzing a species from a hypno kink universe, and I shouldn’t expect crazy world building, but it’s just so much fun!
Edit: @arkkaxe has included a link to a site detailing the Affini in the replies, and it has been very helpful!
It appears that the low gravity environment the Affini hail from caused the evolution of prehensile limbs, and the xenodrugs might be related to their pollen from earlier days of reproduction using “beeple.” Speaking of that subject, their use of beeple lead to the cultural urge of master/pet dynamics, which slightly confirms my original belief that the desire felt more instinctual than purposeful.
I’m glad to be so pleasantly surprised at all the lore of this world! I take back what I said about the world building, there’s obviously enough to get its own website!

Hi, its the former Feralist again.
The worldbuilding just really struck a raw nerve on first glance? On second glance it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought but it STILL infuriates me on a couple of points, mostly in implications that people failed to think through. I've calmed down about it, because it IS just kink, but there are parts of the worldbuilding that I still cannot touch without being viscerally upset.
(I could get into depth if you want, but once again, it is just kink; I don't expect kink writers to think about every last implication of their worldbuilding.)
Anyway, I am currently reading my way through Abscission, which is helping somewhat with certain things that upset me wrt disability and stuff. I'm really excited to read your suggestions!
Signed, A (Formerly) Committed Feralist
(P.S. *specific* things... What appeals to me wrt inevitability in D/s is less "I can MAKE you submit whether you want to or not" and more "We both know you'll submit, because we both know that you *want* me to dominate you", which is not always the vibe in HDG. Sometimes it is, though! And that's why I'm still here! Also that little bit near the end of Grand Folia where Celosia says something along the lines of "Its not that I'm an Affini and you're a terran and I'm better and you're lesser. Its that I would ALWAYS find you - in any time, in any place, in any form - because you ARE mine" really REALLY fucking got me.)
(P.P.S. I may have written a few hundred words of a fic about an Affini playing a convoluted game of cat and mouse with a cute, awkward, evasive little terran who may or may not be a feralist spy. The Affini can't make up her mind, because every time she catches her at something suspicious, there's always a perfectly plausible explanation! Its gonna drive her absolutely NUTS.)
It sounds like you're more into dubcon than noncon. On one hand, this is the noncon intox kink petplay bdsm scifi setting, so a certain amount of noncon is pretty baked into the world at a systematic level that you're either okay with or you aren't.
But on the bright side, there ARE fluffier options that skew more in the direction of what I think you're looking for, because the setting ALSO heavily features things like hurt/comfort, recovering from trauma, learning how to love yourself, and accepting that you deserve to BE loved and cared for by others.
Abscission is a really good one for a protagonist that consistently and very insistently reaffirms their consent at all times. Autumn is very sure about what she wants and frankly spends a lot of time bullying Solanum about not being afraid to give it to her.
From what you're saying, I think you would really like a newer story that's only 3 chapters in called Good Sensory. The tl;dr is that there's an independent human who's too ace and autistic to feel comfortable around most Affini (who tend to be very flirty and touchy and she can't stand a lot of their textures), and an Affini who is ALSO really ace and autistic instantly wants to give her the world. The Affini is VERY sensitive, patient, and accommodating with her neurodivergence and goes out of her way to be very direct about her feelings and intentions.
Marsha (the affini) literally has this internal monologue about Sally (the human): "I admittedly could twist her mind and dull her dislike of certain sensations, but it would be far more satisfying to simply alter her life such that she never experienced them in the first place."
The story was written basically in honor of how much the author (a very autistic woman) loves her very autistic partners, and the joy of giving them experiences that are comfortable for them.
In particular, I think you will REALLY like their first date in chapter 2, which is one of the most gentle and accommodating scenes I have read for all of HDG so far. It's SO sweet.
Someone in the server actually just collected a list of recommended fics that skew much more on the consensual side. NOTE THAT I HAVE NOT READ MOST OF THESE AND CANNOT PERSONALLY VOUCH FOR THEM.
Intake Interview Wild and Domestic Child of the Wilderness How To Tame A Polycule Fermata Art Exhibition Flotsam Heart Cross Pollination Surrogate Bloom Sycanthe Lantana Alone in the Dark, Together Germination Reading the Leaves Nurture and Acquisitions Perturbance A Normal Grocery Run During Which No Domestication Occurs No Gods No Masters (the primary storyline anyway) Hers to Have, Hers to Hold Petals and Vines Weeklong Stay at a J-Cafe (edited)
I AM currently about halfway through Petals and Vines and can absolutely confirm it's one of the cutest stories in the setting so far. I'm loving every minute of it. 500/10 adorable. Millie is everything, she is the light of my life and I would die for her. She's approaching DAWN levels of cute. DAWN LEVELS.
I would also add to this list:
Inosculate by SapphicSounds (the affini refuses to do ANYTHING with the protagonist until she explicitly asks for it)
Through The Looking Glass by PyxxieStyxx and TheMothCourt (the protagonist does get embarrassed/humiliated quite a bit, but she is VERY INTO IT and is given ample opportunity to back out or revoke her consent at any time, which she never does because she is having the time of her newly lesbian life right now)
I WOULD caution you against writing for the setting if you have mixed feelings about the worldbuilding, and especially if you haven't read some of the most foundational works of the setting like the original, Abscission, Divaricated, For A Better Universe, and a couple others. You should also familiarize yourself with the Rules and Axioms for the setting, as they're important for how the community functions as a creative space.
(The point is not taking things we like OUT of the sandbox to play with, it's bringing something of our own INTO the sandbox so we can play TOGETHER. But we play NICE in that sandbox, because we want the people who play in it after us to have that same joy we did. If your goal is to CHANGE something about the setting, then you're not playing the same game as everyone else in the sandbox.)
I'm pretty confident at this point that I have a good feel for the lore, vibe, and mechanics of the setting to comfortably start writing for it, but even I'm still holding off because there are some other Big Foundational Stories (Divaricated, Wellness Check, No Gods No Masters, probably Nurture and Acquisitions) that I want to experience and understand first, because when I'm ready to start contributing, I want to make sure I do it right.
Also, there actually IS a story literally CALLED Cat And Mouse, and it's one of the top 10 stories in the setting (sorted for Kudos on AO3). I cannot personally vouch for it because I haven't read it and don't know anything about it beyond that it's a Predator/Prey dynamic, but it has the same author as Good Sensory and her stories (though incredibly varied, tone wise) haven't let me down yet. Sheepwave is a very evocative writer and whatever kind of mood she's going for her in her stories, you're gonna REALLY feel that mood.
Sweet Poppy (one of her more famous stories) is a blood curdling psychological horror story. I am terrified of Poppy. She's easily the scariest Affini I've read yet. That's a HARD story to read if you can't stomach it, but it's very well done. It's the kind of story that you can't stop reading and ALSO it makes you sick to your stomach.
The only other story I've read from the setting so far that filled me with anywhere near that kind of nauseating dread was Independence Is Easy by SapphicSounds. If you're REALLY into doll kink, you might love it, but if you're not, it's absolutely a horror story. I don't regret reading it, but I was definitely way more into the first half than the second half. The protagonist DEFINITELY needed to be domesticated, but not by this specific Affini. I've seen lots of people be REALLY obsessed with it, but based on what I can gather from your tastes, I would NOT recommend this one to you.
In regards to the worldbuilding, the main thing to remember is that HDG is at its core a WILDLY SELF-INDULGENT kink setting where the most immutable aspect is that everyone deserves to be loved and cared for and given a better life. It was made by gay auDHD trans women FOR gay auDHD trans women, and the real fantasy is just that there will always be someone there who loves us unconditionally while accepting us for our truest selves and telling us that we deserve to not hurt anymore. All of the scifi worldbuilding exists to supplement that. The Affini are overpowered by design.
It's not intended to be realistic, it's intended to be wish fulfilment where inevitability is coming for you, and that inevitability is kind, and loving, and PROFOUNDLY horny.

[Welcome to my Pinned Post, the top is my boundaries and the like. This goes mainly for me, but can be assumed the same for my character, the muse of this blog. Select "Read More" if you would like to read Fhaze's introduction.]
Hello! My name is Bee, I am the moderator of this blog! "Laccaria-First-Floret" is a blog located in the HDG (aka: Human Domestication Guide) Universe, and will likely surrounds topics within the universe. If this bothers you, please feel free to block this blog, I won't be upset! Your boundaries are just as important as mine!
Before I list my boundaries, I will say, that if I speak in text OOC (Out-Of-Character) the text will be surrounded by brackets [like this!] And may or may not be bolded!
Onto the Limits / Boundaries of my blog:
First is, of course, general DNI context: Absolutely no racism, homophobia, ableism, transphobic, or content that alludes to General DNI listings is allowed on here. Please do not interact if that is your intentions.
Aspects of HDG that make me uncomfortable: I understand that HDG is mainly a very kink-filled universe, but there are some things I, as an asexual, do not like. Please don't mention anything close to;
noncon / dubcon
forced-feminization
explicit NSFW.
If there happens to be other things that happen, they will be added to this list.
Besides that, please enjoy my newest muse, and have fun sending them asks!

"Man, I thought this would be easier with all the research I put into learning about old Terran tech..."
For about ten seconds into the video, the screen is black, and there is loud rustling and clicking noises over a androgynous, irritated-sounding voice.
Then, the black suddenly disappears, giving way to a hazel eye and light brown hair. There's a gasp, and the eye looks away, before the voice becomes triumphant.
"A-ha! I knew it was some button!"
The apparent camera is settled down on a flat surface— a desk, with neat, small piles of paper and a few pencils off to the side— and the figure leans away, settling into the chair they are in. It's clear they are a Terran, with the light brown hair and hazel eyes from earlier, their skin is rather tanned, covered in dark freckles. The most eye-catching thing about the Terran is three large scars across their face, narrowly missing their eyes. Their hair is thick and frames their face, and their smile is bright.
"Hello! My name is Fhaze Marsvin, an independent Terran sophont!"
They pause, and then smile a bit, seeming a tinged embarrassed.
"Ah— well, less independent, more of a soon-to-be-floret!"
The statement is stated with awkward jazz hands, before they cough and look away, as if they had embarrassed themself by simply doing that. It takes them a moment, but they regain composure, looking back to the camera with their hands in their lap.
"I was, and still slightly am, a pharmaceutical investigator, researching into the Xenodrugs that Affini have created, and their affects on others; sophonts and the like— Terran and not."
"But recently, it had come to my attention that I was growing some... attachments to a certain Affini who was helping me in the area I was working in."
Initially they had spoken near professionally, but at the mention of the Affini, their face splits into a soft grin.
"After asking around, mainly speaking to colleagues Affini-and-not, and sending an ask to a floret I had been seeing online, I had made the jump to ask her if she would be interested in having a Floret."
They flush deeper this time, smiling to themself as they cover their mouth with a hand.
"It has— um... She said yes, very eagerly. And... this is why I'm here!"
They look back up at the camera, smiling brightly and dropping their hand to their lap.
"I will be video-recording my progress as a Floret! This is to show the "Free Terrans" and Feralists out there the reality of becoming a Floret. Things have become misconstrued, which happens when things spread word-of-mouth!"
They look... sympathetic for a moment as they speak about Feralists and the like, as if they've just misunderstood things. Their smile turns into a happy one.
"The Affini I had confessed to, er, well... she's said that she is now my Affini—"
They blush again a bit, before continuing.
"Ah— eheh, my Affini is Hydnel Laccaria, Third Floret. She was the one that encouraged me to create this blog in the first place! And, well, the one who suggested the name, even if nothing is in paper yet."
The look they give is of lighthearted exasperation, yet they shrug.
"I can't blame her, I'm excited as well."
They pause, contemplative as they stare above the camera, seemingly at nothing. Their mouth screws up slightly as they think, before they shrug once again.
"I believe... that's all I had! Please, feel free to send me questions, and I'll get to them as soon as I can! Thank you for taking your time to listen and watch!"
They practically chirp as they reach over to the camera with one hand and wave with the other, their eyes crinkling with crows feet as they smile. It's the last image seen before the screen goes blank.

What The Fuck Is On The Shoulders Of Rootstock?
If you're anything like me, you have a love/hate relationship with the Human Domestication Guide writing project - which is not to say that I hate it. There's a lot to love!
I love the indulgent depictions of post-scarcity, I love xenobiology and xenoculture, I love the ten-foot plant-monster mommy-dommies, I love seeing capitalism and imperialism smashed into teeny-tiny pieces over and over. I can't get enough, and it's what sucked me in.
However, I also personally disagree with the way certain aspects are handled, and believe they impede HDG in general:
My kinks are not your kinks.
The Affini are too perfect.
Over-focusing on kink.
No sense of scale.
I've started this blog to set up an organised central worldbuilding reference for anyone else interested in taking the same tack with HDG. You should absolutely send in asks if any of this interests you.
Why don't I just go start my own post-scarcity worldbuilding project specifically tuned to my own tastes? One, I've already done that (like, twice). Two, HDG still has the aforementioned elements I love and want to work with, and I want to riff on them alongside others I know who also play within HDG's space.
More detail below:
1. My kinks are not your kinks. This is the big one for me. I acknowledge that HDG was originally started explicitly as noncon intox hypno brainwashing petplay erotica, but that's not my speed. My relationship to submission is about maintaining self-control and making the decision to obey, rather than having my decision-making forcibly taken away from me. Intox, hypno, brainwashing, etc. all run against my ability to enjoy the HDG themes I do like, and I am picking and choosing what's on my plate while still leaving room for others to add the usual stuff in.
2. The Affini are too perfect. This is with regards to the way the Affini are written in "canonical" HDG media as being perfectly-competent supreme overlords who can do no wrong and have negligible rates of failure at anything they do. For me, this is boring. Characters in media are fun because they are imperfect, because they fuck up every once in a while, because things don't always go their way. Mistakes are how people learn, and a character that doesn't learn is very dull. I want to introduce fallibility and limits to the character that is The Affini Compact as a whole, making them a more compelling and interesting force within HDG stories. Conversely, I also want to depict the Affini as having earned their seat on the galactic stage. I want to see them engage in the sort of logistical and political exercises needed to remain such a powerful civilisation. I want to see the kind of underhanded and manipulative tactics you need in order to invade and pacify other cultures without harming them. It makes them feel more powerful and alive.
3. Over-focusing on kink. Just like #1, I feel that most depictions of Affini in canonical HDG stories flatten their biology and psychology to the bare minimum required to be titillating objects. Every single Affini is reduced to a slavering predator eager to abduct and mindbreak her next victim. Yes, HDG is erotica, but where's the nuance? Where's the rest of the iceberg? What do the Affini do when they aren't fucking aliens? How do the Affini maintain such a dominant political position in the galaxy? These things are missing, and so too is any sense of the Affini being real people.
4. No sense of scale. Canonical population estimates sit at some silly number like 10^30 individuals, with a territory covering at least a dozen galaxies. This is comically large, and makes the Affini a dominant supermajority crowding out just about every other species. Also, where are the Affini going to find a floret for everyone? It's just silly.
Q: What does all this mean in practice?
A: It means I'm currently worldbuilding a bigass lore document for Affini, My Way and it's growing every day. It's still in a very rough, draft-y state but I'd love to hear what others have to say about it if this project catches their interest. My personal favourite highlights are "Affini are omnivorous heterotrophs" and the name for Matter Trainers. See below!
Tumblr media
Further up on this canvas are my notes for outlining a planned HDG story set in this style, but they're not ready to be shown to anyone just yet (would love to chat about my ideas, though).

hi there! long time reader, first time asker, big fan of the blog. I recently discovered this collaborative scifi universe call Human Domestication Guide (they have a wiki! their canon is fascinating) where a benevolent, very intelligent, functionally immortal, shapeshifting alien plant species called the Affini 'domesticated' all humans after the 'terran domestication war' against a capitalist imperialist human government and keep some of the humans as pets and use different kinds of 'xenodrugs' to keep them docile. it's v queer and kinky, with loads of bondage, medical kink, petplay etc.. big potential for monsterfucking tbh.
a majority of the stories in this universe, including the original one, features the relationship between a captured human rebellion soldier and her mistress, and dubcon/noncon brainwashing ensues. BUT, i can't help but wonder what would a war prize!hob & plant!dream HDG AU look like. i personally imagine hob would be just fully on board with such enthusiasm that even baffles dream! meanwhile hob is like nah he never really bought the propaganda of the terran navy anyways and now that he's seen how powerful & altruistic the affini civilisation is? humans never stood a chance. and needless to say the hedonist in hob nearly jumps at the opportunity to become this beautiful shapeshifting plant alien's (have you SEEN dream's plant-adjacent facets in the comics) very, very good human pet (and already halfway fallen in love)
-- 🌳 (if it's not already taken)
Oh I am SO intrigued by this concept!!! Thank you so much for introducing me to this! It sounds right up my street tbh, and I'm definitely going to check out the stories!
I love the idea of an all-powerful alien Dream!!! Especially with plant aspects. Like poppies spreading from his skin, vines twining down from his hair. Like, how is Hob NOT going to fall head over heels? He's been a solider doing shitty soldier things for so long and now he gets to hang out with this beautiful creature who WANTS him??? Literally a dream come true.
I'm imagining incredible potential for sexy outfits here. I mean, latex is usually not top of my kink list, but in a sci-fi universe it feels kind of necessary. Imagine Hob’s upper body beautifully encased in red latex, showing off all his curves and soft edges. He can hardly move but he loves feeling constricted like this. And Dream is so sweet to him when he gets all dolled up, telling Hob that he's the most beautiful pet, the most precious and most obedient.
I love the idea of alien Dream being very fascinated by Hob and his humanness, all his needs to eat and drink and sleep. He's so darling and fragile and Dream just adores taking care of him, keeping him well fed and maybe occasionally dosed up on fun space drugs. Hob loves his life as a spoilt pet who gets nice things and weird alien sex. The way he's gone from muscular, brutalised soldier to pampered well fed pet turns him on so much.
Screw it, if it's Hob, then I DO want to see him covered in latex. Especially the hoboobies. And if we're talking sci-fi, let's not forget the possibilities of oviposition...

Just a thing to be cared for...
Okay hi everyone? I'm Iris, though honestly I can use different names without issue as long as they aren't masc. Anyways, I'm a 22 year old trans femme that just wants to be cared for, in multiple ways.
This blog is nsfw and will contain abdl-stuff, doll-stuff, petplay-stuff, pretty much anything that catches my interest that involves a care giver type thing, even if it's embarrassing and blush inducing. I may also post some writing? Not sure.
This blog might reblog or talk about some bullying/teasing or forced care. It might also tow the lines of hard kink when it comes to cnc or similar things, I just enjoy that stuff. You have been warned.
Note if you want to have a reference, I'm heavily into hdg. If you know what that is and like it, we'll vibe well; if you hate it or get a sickening feeling best to probably pass on this blog. Sorry.
Feel free to interact with my posts without issues! Flirting/teasing/anything else is completely fine! Just like don't do unpromted stuff on my posts if it doesn't make sense? If im venting here, unlikely, don't start getting kinky; time and place for everything.
Just keep it tame in DMs unless we know each other; asks are somewhere in the middle.
Also just saying it now, I will block minors and they aren't allowed here. Should be obvious but saying it here.
#paci doll = ab/dl stuff
#petpetpetpetplay = petplay, maybe therian stuff?
#care for the doll = things I connect with that are caring. Might contain manipulation stuff also. Fair warning and all that.
#awawawa am doll = dollposting stuff
#i need to make a hdg tag at this point j swear = actually my hdg tag now
#art! = general art tag for stuff I like!
#chastity for the doll = self explanatory
[Wip]
*Might add to tagging system
*might add list of interests

(Sorry if this sounds mean) If you’re ace why are you looking for mind control erotica? This isn’t a bad faith question, as someone who’s aro but not ace I’m genuinely curious. Maybe expounding on it would help your followers point you at new things?
Also have you read Human Domestication Guide? It’s very mind controlly, though it does have pet stuff if you hate that or whatever.
Short answer: it's complicated.
So to answer in reverse order: I have read some HDG stories: not enough to remember what I read, but in general I like them. And petplay doesn't bother me. So I'll probably read more in future, it's just that it never triggered that "I should read all of this!" urge in me. Which isn't an indicator of how much I like it/the quality of it, that's just a thing that sometimes happens to my brain.
As for why I'm reading mind control erotica despite being asexual... It's complicated (as you might guess).
Basically I'm asexual in the "not attracted to men or women (or anything else/between)" sense. I don't experience sexual attraction, at all.
But that's only one part of sexuality. It may be the primary part for allosexuals, but it obviously can't be for me. I'm still interested in some sexual things, and I'm interested in them for sexual reasons, but it's just that those reasons are never "this person is hot" or "this sex is hot".
Like, not to give a complete listing of my kinks or anything, consider basic rope bondage as a fetish. You could look at the fetish from multiple angles:
It's sexy getting tied up, because of the physical sensation of being tied up.
It's sexy to be tied up, because you don't have control.
It's sexy to tie someone up, because of how they look tied up.
It's sexy to have someone tied up, because you have control and they don't.
It's sexy to have sex while tied up, because you can't resist it (in the scene. This is fantasy, there are safewords)
It's sexy to fuck someone tied up, because they can't resist (in the scene, fantasy, safewords)
And then in fiction you can do the last two minus the watsonian-bdsm: it's not a scene. (I won't discuss this further because discourse)
Only 5 and 6 really need sex itself to be a part of it. You can have the eroticism of bondage and no one has sex, or needs to be attracted to anybody.
I don't have a huge amount of experience here, but from what I've heard this isn't that uncommon in the bdsm community: there's plenty of people who show up at bdsm events solely for "non-sexual" tying/getting tied.
Anyway, once you understand that you can have a kink (even one that seems sexual) for reasons other than sexual attraction/sex* itself, you can probably see why an asexual person might still want to read about it.
Also there's elements of, like, exploration of personal impossibilities? As jms said:
So I cannot forgive. Which makes the notion of writing a character who CAN forgive momentarily attractive...because it allows me to explore in great detail something of which I am utterly incapable. I cannot fly, so I would write of birds and starships and kites; I cannot play an instrument, so I would write of composers and dancers; and I cannot forgive, so I would write of priests and monks and Minbari...
It can be interesting reading stories of people doing things you can't for reasons you never experience, obeying urges you don't have.
* "sex" is also a difficult thing to define, because especially in BDSM terms it gets very fuzzy. What things count as sex? Generally when I say like "they're spending too much time on the sex" or "the mind control is just an excuse to get to the sex", I'm defining sex as something like "some kind of insertion/licking/vibrating for sexual purposes", when many allosexuals (especially, uhh... What's the word for non-bdsm people? Them) would define it more narrowly, and many BDSM kinksters would define it more widely, including a lot of the things I'm not here: I've heard people call getting tied up or impact play as sex, for example.
Anyway you'd think this sort of perspective I've got on erotic fiction, where I'm here for the non-sex sexual fetish things, would be more common? After all, I'm talking about literature here. I tend to associate the allosexual attraction urge as a visual thing: this person looks sexy, so you experience sexual attraction towards them.
I can see how that'd work if you're talking about visual mediums: movies and photos of real people, even drawn images, but this is just words. I guess maybe people without aphantasia can imagine how someone looks from their description, and can experience some attraction based on that? I don't know. I've never really experienced attraction to written characters, so I can't say how it works. Feel free to enlighten me, anyone who does.
But you can definitely tell reading erotica which stories are "this is a sexy story because it has sexy people in it doing sexy things (sometimes kinkily)" and which are "this kink is the primary focus: any sex they have is in service of the kink, or is just a momentary distraction from the kink". I prefer the latter, by far.
Anyways, I think maybe I'm giving everyone a slightly misleading impression of how much I'm into mind control. It's more that I've found a few stories that actually were interesting to me for a couple reasons (first person submissive perspective, rules-based mind control, some worldbuilding) and then I've been looking for other stories that explore the same ideas as well (or better: the particular ones I liked had a little too much bimboification focus for me, which isn't one of my kinks) and failing. Thus I complain a lot about not being able to find the sort of stories I want.
Which, you know, makes sense? I'm an asexual reading through porn. Despite my explanation in this post, this is still not a great fit for me, so of course I'm disappointed. It'd be like if I was scrolling through a football site and not liking football, complaining about how much sports focus this site has. It's a little silly, you know?
But I'm a lot silly, so I continue.

HDG story thoughts: The Floret In The Mirror
The Floret in the Mirror is a cyberpunk mystery erotica story by @kanagenwrites. It is a sequel to No Gods No Masters.
FITM is a fascinatingly unique HDG atory. It is one of only a handful of stories in HDG which meaningfully explore digital life, (which makes up literally half of the compact, it seems!) but it resonates for me in a way that the others I read that did, Wellness Check and Milk and Cookies, did not.
it follows two characters, Jess digital and Jess physical. A forked existence, and each of them thinks the other is the real one. As someone with some pretty horrible experiences with Brain Problems™, this actually put me off of the fic for a long time, and I'm glad I was able to sit through the discomfort of seeing my own past experiences out so vividly to page. Both characters feel unmoored,as the physical Jess has no memories and the Digital one is a copy. They eachs struggle with their own validity, and then things get even more complicated.
As both a plural system and someone who looks upon the person she was before getting brain damage with a sense of envy that she is surely the real me I was denied the opportunity to be, this story hit and it hit hard. Even without that context, the themes of identity and growth that it explored are meaningful and explored with depth (any more is spoilers!)
Making an HDG mystery novel was a frankly inspired idea. While I will not be spoiling the mystery, the framing allows the affini to be narrative antagonists (not villains, but an oppositional narrative force) that it is fascinating to watch the protagonists try to sneak around and outsmart. I was truly on the edge of my seat for the plot, and I even had the answer to the mystery spoiled to me by accident.
Oh my god, the kink. The fucking kink on display in this story. I was feasting the entire time while reading it. I am an avid VRchat and hypnokink enthusiast, and the kinds of weird, esoteric shit you can get up to when the laws of physics and reality are malleable is captured so well in this story. There are smut scenes that had my jaw dropping from thier sheer creativity.
Reading this story changed how I am going to approach the setting. I want to play in this space. It already inspired one oneshot out of me, I expect it to do far more in the future.

Repost to compile my pinned post into a single post
Hello :>
You can call me pet, toy, critter, whore, or whatever else your heart desires! I'm just a little creacher. I'm not a rat, and if you call me a rat, I'll bite you.
I do my best to be a good girl, but sometimes I can't help but cause a little mischief... If I'm not being good, feel free to put me in my place. Otherwise, treat me how you like! The less of a human I am to you, the better. Praise and degradation are both loved by this pet.
This is my horny blog so minors DNI.

Other things I'm into:
Praise (absolutely oh my god please I'll beg for it if that's what it takes)
I <3 HDG (I've read most of Divaricated. Dog of War & the original are on my "to-read" list. I'm also open to other suggestions in DMs!)
I have an oral fixation so I WILL bite you (and melt if your fingers go anywhere even close to my mouth)
As for my limits: no scat, gore, raceplay.

i keep seeing people tag things as HDG, and thinking "uhhhhh OP didn't ask for that" and i'm surprised it took this long to see someone going "wtf is HDG i keep seeing it ta- OH DEAR LORD, THERE'S PETPLAY IN HERE." like... for the love of plampt, HDG fans... y'all tag anything and everything HDG and seem to forget that THE ONE WHO POSTED IT SEES THOSE TAGS????? I'd be pretty weirded out by a non-sexual "I wish [comforting thing] would happen" getting tagged with a kink setting if I'm not into it like that. can we... not do that, maybe? your followers will know why you're reblogging it. i'm not the greatest at Having Takes but it just feels a little squicky to be tagging non-HDG posts as HDG to me?
but... yeah, for non-HDG fans, a bit of explanation: this is a comfort post, and despite how weird it is, HDG is a comfort setting for a lot of sophonts.* that's why they keep tagging things like this HDG; it's hitting the "comfort" notes and also the general theme, even if they're not kinking on it.
because... HDG about a society that genuinely cares about each and every member being not only safe and alive, but happy, and has nigh-infinite resources and will to make that happen. where you're not told you have to be useful to have value. where sophonts who cannot take care of themselves are cared for, rather than being left to suffer. quality of life increases massively for everyone, not just the pets. it's a society that says "you will be accepting of others, and if you won't learn, we will teach you." it's just nice to think about a world where an autistic sophont with autistic needs is given appropriate accommodation for them instead of being told "have you tried being neurotypical? just be neurotypical!"
...also the giant plants are kinky and that's hot.
.* "sophont" can be used to refer to any sapient entity; some sophonts dislike being referred to as "people," because it has social connotations they do not like. i am one of those sophonts.
I need to be kidnapped by kind aliens who take me to the alien vet and they know exactly what's wrong with me and they cure me and feed me nutritious meals
