Unpopular opinion incoming: ...Why do NaruHina fans even like The Last?

Unironically, I really want to know why, because, I am a huge NaruHina shipper myself, and even still, this movie never fails to aggrevate me in the worst way possible, even now, not even getting angry or anything, but... I just feel empty. I feel nothing. Not even the kiss made it worth, and I am HUGE sucker for sappy romances from time to time. Hell, I am a romance author, as a hobby. But this movie, it legit felt like, I just wasted my freaking time. That's a far worse sensation than getting mad, because, I just got nothing smart to say about it.

So, let me get this straight, and I am pretty sure, I am speaking of behalf of anyone that even remotely supports these two as one: The series NEVER making Naruto acknowledge Hinata's confession, was just damned moronic, even from a writing standpoint, because, yeah, in Japanese, it can mean two different things when you say "I love you", I know that, it might just mean "I love you as a teammate", but honestly, considering that NaruHina, by this point, was always meant, even according to Kishimoto, in hindsight, not acknowledging this moment for years to come, until the movie had to speak up about it: You lost the plot. If it was always meant to happen, why did you write it in a way as if Naruto straight up ignored everything she said?

And listen, I know, Naruto is a really delayed mofo, but the movie tried to paint it as if, "Naruto is a dense idiot, who isn't in touch with his own feelings, so you have to put him in a Genjutsu to """see the depths of her feelings for him"""", but honestly, to me, this just felt like a really convenient excuse to just regress Naruto as a person, just so the ship can happen, essentially, "guilt-tripping" him into going, "Ohhh, Hinata always had feelings for me, I didn't notice, even though she risked her life". Again, again, again, none of the events would even bother me so much, if it weren't for the undeniable fact: Somehow, during Shippuden, they tried to make it seem "ambigious", by not addressing her confession, EVER. Like, almost as if, Sakura was meant to be "the final option, because of Kushina", but it was clearly bullshit, and the movie wasn't subtle on that front either. But then, WHY WASN'T IT BROUGHT UP? WHY DID NARUTO NOT SAY ANYTHING?

And before any of you stupid motherfuckers are going to accuse me of being a "closeted NaruSaku shipper", I am not. These two simply wouldn't have ever worked out in the long run, for one thing, because I am not a fan of this trope, of the girl always needing to use violence, on an already traumatized individual (not to mention, that being played for laughs, which also rubs me the wrong way, especially in regards to comic relief characters), and him just going with it, which, by the way, isn't very realistic at all, as to why Naruto never got cross with Sakura at one point or another (one can of worms, I want to talk about some other time), and secondly, c'mon now, look at these two. They are more siblings than anything. As if, two different halves and shades of Kushina live inside the two of them, individually.

Not to mention, why are you NaruHina fans so comfortable with pardoning bad writing, brushing it off as if it's "deeper than you think"? Because, I just can't see it any other way, both Naruto and Hinata were frankly OOC in this movie, considering, this is all supposed to take place after the war. I can forgive Naruto being an idiot, who is slow on the draw, but straight up going "he is just dense", is frankly retarded, considering, we are talking about the equivalent to ninja Jesus Christ with him here, who basically loves everyone like family (safe for the villains), but then comes Hinata, he confesses first, but somehow "he is dense"? Why do we even need a fucking Genjutsu for all this? Doesn't he remember a person he truly loved like her, of ALL people? So we are left with having to rely on made-up flashbacks, which never even happened in the original series (only in Shippuden, late-game), and a contrived plot device, that comes in the name of "Otsutsuki"?

On that note, I really do not like what this movie did with Hinata. Look, "Toneri was messing with her chakra", even if that were true, it doesn't change anything, because it's still an excuse to make her another damsel in distress for Naruto to save. I get it, Hinata is not like Naruto in that, she bears his battle attributes, but sheesh, man, are you really fine with regressing her back to the Genin, who can't even run down walls to save her life? This is a mess, I really cannot approve of this, Hinata is way stronger than that, and we all know it, this just isn't acceptable to me. I want my couple dynamic to be evenly distributed to feel absolutely comfortable.

And this is acceptable to you all? I call it, for what it is: Terrible writing. Stitched together with convenient excuses, just to have the ship happen somehow, in an artificial way, despite having criminal lack of shared screentime together, non-canon content excluded, by the way (I am sorry, I have to be consistent here).

With all this knowledge, the movie comes off as a truly cringeworthy attempt to try appeasing to us, who love these two together. The sappy music, the "larger-than-life" presentation, the overt reliance on spectacle, rather than substance, is just making this experience even worse for me.

How do you think Naruto Shippuden should've ended?

Ideally, with Naruto realizing that he doesn't need to become hokage to get the attention and validation from the people he loves and cares about. Or at the very least, with Naruto becoming hokage but abolishing the shinobi system. Maybe even make Danzo hokage along the way, just when Tsunade falls into her coma, and slowly make Naruto question the system more and more. Also, Sasuke's whole "redemption" arc should have been handled differently. First and foremost, he was a victim. He did a few things that were wrong, and I agree that there need to be consequences, but for this redemption arc I'd rather have him travel around and teach people around the world about the customs and culture of the Uchiha.

Are you pro or anti naruhina? pro or anti sasusaku?

I am both Anti NaruHina and Anti SasuSaku, but for two different reasons. I used to be a hardcore SNS shipper, but not so much nowadays. NaruHina had so much potential, they could have explored their class and privilege differences together, learning from each other and stuff. But Neji dying for their ship to sail? That was a hate crime. The reason I'm Anti SasuSaku is because I simply don't really like the thought of shipping Sasuke with anyone. He has enough to go through and putting him in a romantic relationship is not something that would make it more interesting or add stakes to it, although I wouldn't mind seeing him adopt a kid or two, given how family oriented Sasuke is.

Whats your opinions on how the fourth war was played out? I found the use of Edo tensei very interesting, albeit a little cheapened here and there. The Itachi and Sasuke vs Kabuto fight was a little disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing he two of them fight together side by side, and Itachi's final parting was very touching - but them fighting Kabuto of all people? Maybe if Kishi fleshed out Kabuto's story a little more, he clearly had no idea what to do with him. Poor bastard.

Madara just 'knowing' the hand signs of edo tensei is actually not so unlikely, but it still irks me how he was able to just "come back" when Edo Tensei was released.

And let's not talk about the power scaling, which went completely through the roof in the end. Oof. Kaguya, as is, ruined the storyline completely. It could have worked, but not in the way it was executed in shippuden.

But alas, I suppose there is only so much Kishi can do within the confines of a genre.

I had stopped being able to read the naruto manga way back near the beginning of shippuden (it was still coming out at the time) due to the store I had access to not bothering to carry the volumes anymore (man am I old 🤣) then different fandoms caught me and years go by so my mind has the sasuke naruto meeting with sasuke draping himself over naruto to threaten him and sakura being competent with healing kankuro and fighting sasori... so I was...confused when I recently fell back into the fandom why sakura would even be with sasuke...as I felt mature medic nine fighter girl would have understood that she'd had a crush and moved on.

Like, Naruto and Sasuke had so much stuff between them I get why they haven't let each other go.

So it seemed weird as hell that sakura would even still "like" sasuke... as her original feelings stemmed from childish "he's so cute and broody" which is okay in a 12 year old girl but less okay as an adult woman...

The naruhina I though, ah, he and hinata must have had many moments in all the parts I've missed, and bonded...oh...she just...endangers herself and confesses to which naruto doesn't react at all...and then their married...

As a shonen manga I figured we wouldn't get a blatant narusasu ending (even though they are the best) ...I'm even a cheery multishipper often for characters I like but...it was so sad. I'd of been happier to have it end with shion just randomly turning up to have naruto keep his baby making promise...

Anywho sorry for blathering on.

Yeah, Sakura never matured in that department. Even in the sequel where she’s supposedly married to Sasuke, Ino derisively says she’ll forever stay a girl in love. Like the story had to spell it out for readers. There is this weird vibe between her and Sarada when it comes to Sasuke.. I don’t even know how to describe it but it’s creepy. Even when there is a kid involved somehow and they speak of marriage, Sasuke gives her no reason to love him romantically and it surprises her still that he showed no concern for her life whatsoever. Sasuke, who expresses through action in most cases, is still as indifferent as ever towards her. 

Sakura has moments where she shows some care for characters, mainly driven by her being a medic, but emotionally, it is bizarre how little she cares about Sasuke and yet, at the same time seems to only care about him... if it involves herself. She doesn’t even question why Sasuke does what he does or tries to understand how he feels. Even when she gets fed little snippets of his pain or the source of that, she doesn’t try to find an answer. In the very end she doesn’t even give a shit about his reason to travel or defend his words regarding "redemption". She felt entitled to an apology while she was the one going up to him with the intention to kill him. Even when he tries to explain why he wants to travel, she just cuts off his words because she wants to go with him regardless of his intentions or goals. I get why some people wanted a development for Sakura where she’d be able to let that crush for him go, but story-wise? That would take a lot from Kishimoto because there is also a lot of insecurity involved too.. And frankly, she's very much a red herring :')

Meh, nh... I have nothing to say. 

Well, SNS-fans often say their story is very tragic. But that’s not just how we feel, it IS a fact that Naruto and Sasuke went from receiving a semi-sweet/bitter-sweet (depends on how you look at it as we got a resolve but not a clear resolution yet) in ch 698/699 to a bitter ending in 700 where they suddenly not only didn’t have what they wanted, but certainly not what they needed either. To combat that in the sequel, they shoved all the problems of the world onto a bunch of aliens... distracting everyone from the hypocrisy of the system. Neither Naruto or Sasuke got to work on the thing they wanted and their internal desires were completely massacred for the sake of these kids. And both of them have shown that if they don’t have what they need, they will fail the thing they ultimately want. Meaning, the Shinobi world will forever stay the same while spitting on their dream for the future and the trauma they had to go through because of it. It’s not even about SNS or the story being Shonen... but the concept, which Sasuke talked about at the end that was supposed to be a vehicle for a better world is completely retconned. 

... but I’m happy that besides that, SNS is still widely and largely celebrated regardless. And that says a lot! I’m happy to hear you like my art 🥰💕 that really means a lot, thankyou so much!! (I’m trying to heal myself through them too ;-;!)

I find it pretty difficult to enjoy Sasuke-Naruto as a ship because the way Hinata is treated in that fandom space is disgusting and it’s soured me on the ship completely. But I really really love them in your throuple stuff! It’s nice to see them soft and caring for each other and being kinda snarky but ultimately loving without the thought of “oh this person hates Hinata” in the back of my head. And even when it’s a scene between the two of them, Hinata’s presence is still very much felt which I appreciate a ton. I’m never gonna care about NHS as much as NH but you’ve made the ship enjoyable for me so I’m really grateful!

For sure, there's some really toxic and nasty NaruSasu shippers that go after Hinata just because she ended up with Naruto, and I can't really understand it for her considering she's so damn sweet to everybody, and would be one of the only women to step aside if her husband truly wanted someone else, with no ill will, but, that's a them problem, not mine, lol. I separate the NaruSasu ship from that muck entirely and enjoy it how I want, and what really helps is that there are plenty of SasuNaru shippers I've met that engage with my throuple posts that are absolutely lovely and didn't mind Hinata at all🥰I even got some throuple converts out of it, which I'm always trying to recruit😉

I'm glad you're able to enjoy the throuple for once, trust me, I understand that feeling 100%. There's only a handful of NaruHinaSasu fics and too many of them treat one of the trio like an optional piece (usually Hinata) that can't enjoy the story at all, and that same though will be in the back of my head (this person hates Hinata😩) I'm not one to stew over it though, if I'm not finding what I want, I'm gonna go make it myself🤭

I can't help but mention the other spouse when one is missing. It's probably trauma after reading fics that keep leaving one person out, lmao, but I just have to make sure people know they all love each other, even when it's just two of them. Especially Hinata!💕She be getting done dirty in these dynamics😭

And I got you, I'm in the same boat, I love NaruHinaSasu, but NaruHina is my core, it is life💕my OTP forever💕💕💕

Still, I am very happy that you can enjoy the throuple too. That's all I want is for people that read my throuple fics or stories💕to enjoy seeing these three together because they really have a very cute, very interesting and lovable dynamic when they're all being loved equally. I want to write a lot more for this throuple (been too busy obsessing over NaruHina though lol), and hopefully, more people will give the throuple a chance and that it will help shift the current negative perception of this throuple due to the venom of a few writers😩because you are certainly not the first person to bring up the venom souring them on NaruSasu and consequently, NaruHinaSasu.

I've got about 5 NaruHinaSasu fics coming up that I'll be posting some time this year, and the ones I already have out will be getting some love once I finish a few things with Butterfly and Prey. I'm really excited for these new stories and I hope they're something more people come to enjoy🥰

Shipping and Fandom used to be fun

Buckle up, long post incoming - will be speaking from my own experience.

My first ever fandom was Transformers. I joined it on Tumblr, I believe in....2013? And on Instagram, 2016-2017. I eventually go back in due to nostalgia so Idk how that fandom is in 2024 but back then it was the most welcoming fandom I could ever been in.

OCs were on the rise, ppl were interested in them, asking for lore even commissioning them themselves, asking permission if they could write about them - OCxCanon was also very popular and overall well received. Whoever made a new OC, they would get adopted into the fandom.

Generally speaking, ppl didn't care what you were shipping, everyone was in their own little corner, doing their own thing, respecting one another.

What I'm trying to say, you could ship the most unconventional ships and the general reaction would be: "Why?" "Idk, I'm having fun." Or "I found it intriguing" or "Because I can."

And that was it. No one pried anymore, no one demanded you spill out your trauma and acted like a moral police of what is acceptable in their eyes and what was not.

Ppl could be shipping Megatron with Arcee or Ratchet and no one would bat an eye, people were having fun - the same went for not liking a character. No one would accuse one another of being 'media illiterate'

"Why don't you like this character?" "Idk, I don't vibe with him." "Ok, cool."

And that was it.

Where I noticed it first would be BNHA/MHA fandom - that fandom is rotten beyond belief the last time I tried to enjoy it but the author made me drop it too with his decisions.

(On Instagram OCs were largely ignored and there was 'No Fun Allowed' type of feel which made me last about....2 months, while trying and giving it a chance)

Probably the biggest one would be Naruto - yes, I dislike Hinata and Sakura, along with NaruHina and SasuSaku but that's due to poor development and their respective fandoms. You were not allowed to say that the ships were poorly developed nor that the female characters are flawed, you were labeled as misogynistic and sexist and I don't know what else. You were not allowed to ship noncanon ship, otherwise the shippers of the canon ones would throw a tantrum in your inbox or notes.

Now that I think about it, HH/HB - Naruto - BNHA/MHA fandoms are.....strikingly similar in that regard.

With this post, some might call me a hypocrite and I won't blame you, I also had some level of immaturity back in the day, which I'm cringing and laughing over now.

There's also a reason I stopped joining most fandoms at the height of their popularity, for the people in those fandoms - most of the time - are riding that high and are almost impossible to talk to, any sort of criticism for said shows or characters are met with hostility, etc.

And listen I've been in the fandom during the woobification of MCU!Loki, I had my fair share of immaturity - i was a kid - now that I am older, I enjoy villains for the sake of being villains and fucked up stuff for the sake of fucked up stuff.

(I'm going to make a statement later down the line so be ready to unfollow, just a heads up - no, I'm not in any drama, just making something clear since I don't want to be perceived as a hypocrite)

Which brings me to HH/HB - why did I follow it at the height of it?

Because I was invested. I had hope.

I enjoyed the Pilot back in 2020, I sat trough entirety of S1 of HB until 'Mammon Special' which then caused me to drop it, due to becoming disinterest and fed up with the double standard and picky narrative.

I had hope, that HH would live up to its hype. It did not for me.

Then the allegations kept coming out and I had lost all hope, the fandom had a level of immaturity that made me turn away completely.

(And I've been there during the r*ylo hype, some of the stuff they came up with was abysmal)

What I'm trying to say that back then everyone was in their own little corner, doing their own thing and then I don't know what happened and it was just influx of 'Fun not allowed' type of things, that made fandoms less fun.

It might not make sense, so I'm open to civil discussions and questions.

(Oh, and, the HP fandom made me be prepared for anything, just saying)

People keep saying that bsu is forced and bsa isn’t. But have you ever seen Boruto cry for Salad like he did in the novel for Sumire?

Bsa is forced because of who their parents are. That’s (and for power babies) is the only reason people ship them. But now that Kishi has taken over the series again, I highly doubt they’ll end up together.

But it just annoys me when people do fanart of cool nh moments and trace it into bsa or compare them to each other or even post photos of Kushina, Hinata and Salad together.

And people have the nerve to say that she’s the most beautiful, talented, strongest, best waifu, and mc’s love interest.

Like bro, Boruto lost an eye for her and someone even lost their life cause she was useless!

Why couldn’t they have put her under Ada’s spell? It’ll make things way easier. But because she’s unaffected and Sasuke is, everyone’s claiming it’s because of her love for Boruto and that bsa will triumph. But they completely forget that Sumire’s immune too.

Someone even said that Salad’s immune for her love for Boruto and Sumire’s immune for her love for Kawaki.

Sumire is immune thanks to Nue, right? No one knows why Salad’s immune and honestly, no one really cares.

And I thought that she was a chunin but apparently she’s still a genin, which means she could actually be Hokage.

I’m just picturing that whenever the village is in danger, she will stand there being useless while her friends save her.

How can anyone like her? She dresses inappropriately and is useless, then in part 2 she dresses like a hooker. Honestly, she’s kind of grossing me out now.

And people still have the nerve to say she’s the sun to the cold and distant Boruto and in part 1, they were saying how she was the moon to Boruto’s sun.

That’s Mitsuki’s!

bsa is forced the anime moments alone make that clear, but even in the manga Boruto had to lose an eye cause of her. He is never shown crying over Sarada like you said as well.

Yeah bsa shippers are just Sakura fans who want to use the ship to full for their NaruSaku delusions or make it a trophy to make Sakura look better.

I know what you mean its annoying seeing them still and use NaruHina fanart for a ship like that. More so when they try and force the family dynamics when despite knowing the Uzumaki family Sarada isn't close with them at all.

All of those are lies she isn't that beautiful nor that talented. Even strong is hard to say when she is proving herself to be as useless as Sakura.

I agree her falling for Eida's spell would have made sense we don't know any reason why though for her all Sumire. Sasuke is affected by it he just trust Sarada's words.

It won't be her love for Boruto cause if that was the case Shikamaru and many others who found their true love wouldn't affected either.

For Omnipotence my theory is that since Sumire likes Boruto and Eida sees Sarada the same and her wish is to be with Kawaki it didn't affect them cause if Boruto is replaced with Kawaki in their minds they basically become her love rivals. So in order to grant her wish her jutsu leaves them out so the won't compete with her when it comes to Kawaki. The same would apply to her charm since that is branched from Omnipotence.

Sumire doesn't love Kawaki at all she loves Boruto. We don't know why either Sumire or Sarada are unaffected, but if it is cause of love it would only be cause Eida assumed Sarada liked Boruto or saw her as a possible love rivalry for Kawaki.

Yeah the anime and manga teams aren't communicating you can tell the Chunin arc was filler done by them since they are bias towards Sarada.

I know what you mean am not a fan of clothes either and the sun and moon argument is stupid and fits Sumire more then Sarada. Mistuki is the Moon as well, but just like how Sasuke and Naruto were and Hinata was also his moon/sun the same would go for Sumire.

I feel like this might be half true, so…LONG rambling incoming, but Kishimoto is not the most honest guy in his interviews when it comes to shipping. He blatantly contradicts himself about Naruhina saying he “always wanted it to happen” and that “Well it only really happened in the middle of Shippuden.” Ok, this is some JK Rowling Dumbledore is gay shit to me, it’s obviously the author trying to insert an opinion that the public wants to hear for whatever reason.

Like let’s think about it really critically, I am a writer, and how you choose to allot your characters time with eachother is extremely important in conveying their degree of personal or emotional importance to the narrative. What did he do? He chose to have Naruto’s first kiss to be with Sasuke, he chose Sasuke to think about said kiss before he DIED FOR NARUTO fighting Haku, and moments like these just stack up over and over again while Hinata and Sakura…they just have words, no actual development, in fact Sakura gets negative development, her attitude and personality get worse and Naruto intentionally crushes any shippers dreams of a romance between them during the Kage Summit.

Hinata of course, didn’t even get that lol, she’s ignored by the narrative while Naruto and Sasuke get to play out the lovers suicide trope of Chikamatsu Monzaemon while her love confession goes ignored, imagine if in a piece of western media the male characters ignored their female leads love confession and then decided to directly reference Romeo and Juliet, the implications would be clear to anybody that takes their hetero goggles off.

The Waterfall of Truth also makes me believe Kishimoto intended on taking the story in a different direction; Naruto confronts his inner self who reveals in his true heart that he hates the villages for how they’ve treated him, and resent that they now idolize him without atoning for their past behavior toward him. That’s a pretty crazy plot thread that seemingly gets dropped right after it’s introduced. We know that at some point near the end of the manga Kishimoto also started to actually think about hurting himself just to get a break from work, the weekly grind was going on for years and was really getting to him, that kind of pressure destroys creativity. We also know his editor is super invasive and the culture in Japan is to basically be subservient to the editor.

Hell without his editor we could’ve actually gotten world exploration of the Five villages in part 1! Kishimoto even mocks Hinata WHILE he’s trying to give her shipping moments, during the war she gets to hold Naruto’s “big masculine hand” (so cringe) and then trip and fall on her face! Having to beg for Neji to protect Naruto while her cousin is getting cold on the floor lmao. She even says she’s going to “stand by Naruto’s side” before this, well it turns out that’s what Sasuke did right after she said that lol.

Either way the image that I get when I objectively review the manga is of someone who had a set idea in mind for the ending earlier into the manga. It involved Naruto and Sasuke having their emotional reconciliation at the Valley of the End, Naruto having complicated feelings about the village and exploring that, and Naruto and Sasuke working together to help rid the Shinobi world of hatred.

Sometime near the end of Shippuden the increasing workload and pressure from the fandom and his editor basically wore that down until his plot got sloppier and sloppier trying to tie all the loose ends up as quickly as possible. So instead of that we get bad ships, a severe case of the Not Gays, Konoha just getting to move on totally judgement free from their many crimes, Orochimaru is free because why not LOL, and Kaguya Otsutsuki space aliens with Black Zetsu as the true True mastermind controlling Madara controlling Obito controlling Pain controlling the Akatsuki like the worlds dumbest Russian nesting doll.

Of course…the way Kishimoto talks I also think he’s might have a great deal of Heteronormativity in him despite the fact that he tries to be aware of social issues and inject that into his writing. So if he truly did want to put Naruhina in the manga despite his actions saying otherwise, that’s probably why, who knows though there is no 100% objective way of evaluating what somebody believes when they’re not being honest about it.

To compare it to one of its contemporaries; Bleach has a much better epilogue than Naruto does despite not being favored by the powers that be because the ending is consistent with the desires of the main character and it’s close to the authors actual vision of what he wanted, (in fact the people in charge not giving a fuck about Bleach probably spared it from getting the Boruto treatment) and he had been building up the endgame ships since the beginning of the story whereas Kishimoto wanted to build up Naruto and Sasuke, that’s what he cared about, Hinata and Sakura was basically nonentities created by the collective desires of straight shippers and pushed on the manga.

TLDR; Editors can be the death of creativity.

Maybe for another confession, but ah well.

I am talking here about the ships EreMika and SasuSasu or NaruHina. I've heard that the Ship KenTouka also has this problem, but I don't know too much about Tokyo Ghoul. And it's about me that the fan wishes significantly influence the final composition of the couples. With Attack on Titan, it struck me particularly strongly because at the end the story didn't make any sense to me at all. Roughly summarized: It was about the fact that Eren Jäger saw no other solution than to wipe out humanity outside the walls to protect his friends and family inside the walls. He was able to achieve this by getting Ymir Fritz to make her powers available to him. Ymir was a slave of King Fritz and Eren practically made her understand that she is free and no longer has to obey the royal family. the scene ended with Mikasa overcoming and killing Eren to stop further killing of humanity. And that's where I think the story should have ended. Instead. But the mangaka used the last chapter to take the story completely out of context. Suddenly, the titan curse was lifted, because Ymir was in love with King Fritz and needed Mikasa to break up with him. So what Eren said was...meaningless. And Eren only murdered humanity, because he saw the future and couldn't find any other way. And suddenly he was oh so in love with Mikasa. Yes... But then I wonder why Ymir released the pigs. So that's how she expressed her desire for freedom. And why she had so little will to live that she didn't regenerate after being wounded with a spear. Yes. She must have been in love with the king. Definitely... The chapter was celebrated so hard, despite the rude logic errors, because the majority of the community was EreMika shipper. But because the other side has generated so much headwind, the mangaka thought: I'll just put Mikasa in a new relationship with an unidentifiable man. When it became loud, that the mangaka might have been persuaded by his publisher to end the manga with EreMika, this was painfully denied. Supposedly, Mikasa and Eren were about to kiss when the Grinning Titan attacked them. Then I wonder why it took Eren YEARS to ask Mikasa if she loves him. Never mind that he confessed his feelings to her. It couldn't be overlooked that she likes him. Apart from the fact, that there were hints in interviews, that the mangaka wasn't a particularly big EreMika supporter.

In the case of the Naruto series, the change in shipping was not significant. At least it didn't detract from the actual story. Nevertheless, you realizes that NaruHina cannot have been a planned shipping. No matter what the mangaka wants us to know. In the very first info volume of the Naruto manga, there was already a small hint that Sakura might fall in love with Nauto, might already be in love. It is also striking that Naruto's mother is very reminiscent of Sakura's character and background story and would have wished for her son to have a woman like her. Which Hinata definitely isn't. There are also many scenes that could indicate a soon-to-be-followed romance of the pairing. Especially because Naruto was obviously in love with Sakura. Hinata, on the other hand, seems very strange to him at first and he only sees her as his friend. Even after she confesses her love to him, it takes him until he even reacts to it. In the last Naruto film and the sequel Boruto, attempts were made to make this pairing more logical. Namely, by giving Hinata freaks that were reminiscent of Kushina. Trying to implement a romance where there wasn't, and in return making the pairing look bad for NaruSaku by suddenly saying Naruto only fancied Sakura because she fancied Sasuke and he wanted to rival Sasuke... As if it If there weren't 100 other girls in love with Sasuke. First of all, Ino. In addition, elements that were previously used for Sasuke and Naruto were incorporated. When allegations were made that the mangaka had changed his pairings in favor of his fans, it was said: No. Hinata was planned for Naruto from the start and Sakura was supposed to be a supporting character. As evidence, we were shown a picture of Hinata holding Uzumaki symbols, with Naruto sitting in the background. So. If there had been a picture of the two doing some couple activities. But that's not proof for me. But if Sakura should have been a supporting character. Why wasn't Hinata in Naruto's team? Why did Hinata have so little screen time and most of it with Neji? Why did Neji have to die? Why did Neji even have to play Cupid when Naruto loved Hinata from the start? If the mangaka had NaruHina planned from the start, he really paid very little attention to a believable romance build-up. No. I think NaruSaku, NejiHina and maybe SasuKarin were planned, but decided in favor of the fans. And that's why there are so many shipping wars. Because the most popular non-yaoi shipping wins in the end. And why? Because the mangaka or, for that matter, the publisher, wants to sell the manga in the best possible way. And of course it makes more sense to then target the largest target group. In this case the EreMika and NaruHina shipper. Just. Then you should also be honest, stand by it and not hit and say: No. I planned it that way from the start. This and this is the proof. Then I ask myself why so much rubbish has to be added, in order the pairing make any sense at all. Basically, as a fan, I can stop reading or watching, if I ship a pairing that is not so celebrated by the majority of the community. Because I know exactly which couple it's going to end up being. And that's the sad thing about the story. Instead of putting value on writing a good story, with pairings that also make sense and were probably planned, they prefer to ensure that the work can be sold in the best possible way, and I just think that's a shame. And in that case, I have zero sympathy when fans go, burn manga volumes and merch and threaten the mangaka and his team. Because such fans will be attracted to such things as well. You really don't have to be surprised.

Like, wtf, if they have eyes, you can they are happy, just because you see him serious in offical arts, doesn't make him unhappy. He is naturally serious. But soft around his wife and daughter.

One-sided hetero ships are ridiculously popular. Sasusaku, Naruhina, Eremika, Sanami... and some writers like the ones of first 3 have the nerve to make them canon while having them be one-sided. It would be tolerable if fandom agreed they make no sense. But these SS, NH, EM shippers fight and call others names when they point out their ships are one-sided. The rest that aren't canon twist the narrative to claim there are "hints". Btw, what do you think of eremika? I noticed many SS ship EM.

It's so sad people see so much appeal in these one sided ships. Like why would you ship a couple which is so clearly devoid of love? What's even the point? Except for the obvious ones. Self insert. It's just so masochistic.

I feel so fulfilled shipping SNS. They have so much love between the two of them, that extra is leftover for fans like me who feel so comforted and reassured with it. Like I am a very distrusting person. I wasn't earlier. But I have been for a long time. But if there's one thing I know I can always trust, no matter what, is that Sasuke and Naruto love each other and NOTHING, absolutely nothing in the world can change that. No matter which time period in whichever universe, wherever, those two will always always love each other. There's so much peace in that. It soothes me. I don't think I will ever be able to describe in words how they make me feel. Emotions in all sorts of ranges. But at the end of the day, I feel at peace thinking of them. It's therapeutic. I am so very grateful to Kishi to have given me them and their bond. I have felt damaged for a long time... What do I think about Eremika? I don't think much about it. The ending was so anticlimactic. Also Mikasa is a nice, strong gal but kinda boring. I don't ship them, neither do I think they shouldn't have ended up together. I wish there was more development between the two. But I didn't really care one way or the other. That's all.

Okay this is just for fun. I saw a NH shipper person comment on a strictly Sns platform ( don't know why they bother) say that Sasuke was jealous of Hinata. When someone else replied that he wasn't even aware of her existence and Naruto literally ignored her confession in pein arc and right away went pining for Sasuke and in the next arc, repeated the same lines to Sasuke as Hinata (guessing Hinata's lines are retconned since there's no way Kishi wrote her lines before Naruto's to Sasuke), this was their response:

I only ship SasuSaku in Naruto, but after the ending, I tried to look to other shipping fans to see other opinions. I found a few nice people, who just really ship their fanon ships in peace.

What makes the Naruto fandom so toxic till this day, are the antis of other ships who still believe, that Kishi wrote the manga wrong in the end, and only them are truly capable of seeing the "true ending". These people bash characters, ships, fans of those characters and ships and bash Kishi too. Sadly I have the feeling the most of their hate is towards SasuSaku and Sakura (and Sasuke sometimes too). I think NH is mostly left out by the antis or maybe I just don't see it, because I don't ship NH and so I am only focused on SasuSaku.

And I know, that here are toxic SasuSaku shippers too. I don't want to claim, that the SasuSaku fandom is full of innocent little angels. I know we have bad apples just like EVERY fandom.

Sasuke and Sakura already get a lot of hate individually, Sakura even more than Sasuke, so sadly it comes as no surprise that SasuSaku is one the, if not the most hated ship of the series. I guess this is almost natural because it's also the only canon ship that includes two main characters. Compared to NaruHina, with Hinata as a side character having much less screentime than Sakura, they simply get more attention. And with a lot of attention comes a lot of hate.

As main characters they also had more character development than other characters, which means we know their personalities in depth. This includes flaws and issues as well, and especially Sasuke has a lot of them. Combine that with his cold and unbothered attitude and a certain amount of people is bound to dislike him. And then there's Sakura, the heroine and most developed female character in the series, who is a caring and kind person and therefore should be very likeable, but her flaws have been exposed in episode 1 and so she has amassed an unbelievable amount of haters who refuse to see her growth (maybe because she's cockblocking their own OTP, who knows).

Now the two of them together, oh boy. Kishi has made it very clear they love each other and are happy together, but they aren't the "sunshine family" (which has its own problems that no one talks about). They have issues, and those issues are used as plot fuel like no other. Kishi has said himself that he just can't let them be happy, there always needs to be something up with the Uchihas. And they sell. Because while they're probably the most hated ship, they also do have tons of fans who love them. And even those who dislike the ship keep the attention up.

I gave up trying to understand why all of this must always lead to such toxic behavior of some antis. Why can't they all be like the nice people you mentioned who just enjoy their fanon ships in peace.

Last but not least you're absolutely right, there are bad apples in every fandom and the SasuSaku fandom is no exception. There are those who just defend themselves from antis, but also those who actively look for trouble. It's frustrating that this behavior of a few often reflects on the whole fandom, but well, that can also be said for every other fandom.

My problem with Naruhina is that it should be more developed, Hinata should have more goals and history aside wanting Naruto.

The Last took a lot os Sasuke and Naruto symbolism and made as if where Naruhina. Even if you see them as platonic, this shit is annoying.

It has potential, yeah, I am really a multi shipper, and used to ship Naruhina, but know I just can't.

Kishimoto's overall and self-admitted inability to write women, and thus to write full-fleshed active heterosexual romances that are equal, will always be one of the underlying issues when it comes to a lot of people in fandom disliking the canon ships.

Personally, a lot of my dissatisfaction will always come from the Mandatory Heterosexual Ideal Relationships that so many series end with.

I would much rather see a series end with the MC single and their romantic future left in the dark than see a series end with some shallow "wife and 2 kids" ending because that's what's considered ideal.

1. When did I start reading fics? (how old you were or how long).

-I started reading fanfics (Naruhina fanfics to be specific) when I was 13 years old. The year was 2016 and I accidentally stumbled upon fanfictions on the website fanfiction.net. Now at first, I thought fanfictions was hella weird and honestly cringy. I was a new Naruhina shipper and to see so many people writing Naruhina stories with the two anime characters in real-life settings, dealing with real-life situations and problems really weirded me out. But after a while, I decided to give it a chance and when I did, I fell in love. Though I didn't start reading mature stores until I turned 16. Now I am 18 and I still read and also write Naruhina fanfictions! Naruhina is just so good! I can't get enough of the couple! They're adorable!

7. What is your favorite fic genre to read?

I have so many favorite genres so I will just name them all and also explain why I love them:

🖤 Horror: I love the suspense and thrill. The chills I get when reading horror genres is so addicting. These stories I find are always unpredictable. You can never guess what is gonna happen next.

💔 Angst: I love angst because this genre really touches my heart. This genre always keeps me invested in the story. I always find myself dying to read more to see what will happen next. I also usually cry while reading stories with angst in it. I just love those types of stories.

💕 Romance: Of course, I love, LOVE the Romance genre. Reading the two characters get together and share heartfelt moments and create memorable memories makes my life complete.

🧛‍♀️ 🐺 Vampire/Werewolf/Supernatural. I also like the vampire and werewolf genre. The sharp teeth, the speed, feeding, mates and all, I love it. Supernatural fanfics are always a yesss in my book!

26. How long do you like chapters to be?

Well, I like my chapters pretty long. I like to write a good amount for each. See, before a chapter, I plan out what I want to cover for that particular chapter and so once I am finished planning, I write out my plans and usually, I like to write an important event for each chapter to move the plot along faster. If that makes sense, haha.

27. What’s your favorite POV (point of view) to read? (first, second, third)

My favorite is both first and third. Now I love to write in the first-person. Because (in my opinion) it is fun to write as the character in question. It brings me into the story even more because I personally know the feelings and thoughts of that particular character. But I also love third-person stories. I started reading fanfics that were only written in third-person in the beginning so that is one reason why I love stories written in that way. But I also love it because it is just sooo good! You know not just what one person is feeling but everyone. It's incredible. I was actually planning to write a new story solely in third person to of course give it a try and to do something new. I also want to work on expanding my writing skills.

I uh. Write much much more than I intended to lmao so, the rest goes under the cut!

Shipping them is actually kinda unexpected, you see, because while it's true that I started vld because one of my favorite writer start writing about them and I got curious, I actually went through the first 2 seasons completely not understanding where the ship is coming from lmao. I was more of a Shallura and Shatt shipper at that point, and I saw Klance as more of a friendly-rival characters sorts but probably won't go toward romantic route, kind of like Heishin for me. I am, however, already fell in love with Keith from the very start (this bit here is very important, alright?).

And then season 3 rolls around and I..... just fell headfirst into the Klance hell. Specifically that moment in front of Black when Lance goes to comfort Keith. I was just... so enamored by this moment, because see, up to that point Keith has been really insufferable, which is absolutely justified, but so is his teammates disdain toward him. And yet, out of all 5 people present there the one who goes up and comfort him is Lance. The rival. The boy who loudly complain whenever Keith as much as glance toward him. Like, they could've easily made Coran do that, with him being the oldest and (supposedly) the wisest among all of them. He did that with Lance, after all. Or Allura, maybe, because she's technically the leader of the pack and it make sense for her to try and comfort her subordinate. And yet, it was Lance who goes up and stand beside him.

And then the next eps when he just blindly goes after Lotor and literally endangering his teammates? Even I, the self-proclaimed Keith #1 fan, got a bit annoyed and feeling a bit like I want to kick some sense into him. And yet Lance is still the only one who's faithfully flying beside him, reigning him back when he's literally leaving his teammate behind, comforting him again and doesn't even try to antagonize him when he admits he went too farーlike bro. That "Keith, don't do this!" scene still haunts my dream, it was so good.

Those moment really cements how good Lance is for Keith, and that's ultimately what made me ship them in the first place. You see, one of my rule in shipping is that I will ship whoever made my favorite character happy. Like, this is kinda why I'm still a Naruhina shipper at heart because I love Hinata to death and I want her to have the man of her dream, despite how much I agree that Narusasu or even Narusaku is a league above them in term of a good couple. Like, I mostly just want to see my favorite character being happy, y'know? So yep. Those s3 moment show me how good Lance is to Keith, and that's how I sold my soul to the devil :'D

One other thing that really sent me is this specific characters trait of Keith and Lance. Keith, as an orphan who was left to fend off for himself for most of his childhood, ends up having too many love left to give. And Lance, the boy who have a bazillions family member, ends up already giving too many love in his life. And well, Keith will have more than enough love to shower Lance. Soulmate behavior, don't you think? 😆

It really doesn't help (or it does?) that I've always love an enemy/rival-to-lover trope since I know what shipping is. So in a way, I love Klance because I love Kaishin, ahah 🙈
