I feel the same way about enjoying the show more towards the end of season 7 bc of closure with Mickey and I think Trevor was mostly good for Ian. I also liked Lip a lot more through season 8 and how Debbie is progressing with her life. there’s something I would consider big that happens in season 9, idk if you know and I’m not entirely sure if you would like it or not bc of one of your reactions but I thought it was nice.
((i feel the exact same about debbie and trevor tbh))
uhhhm okay i just watched 9x06, which is apparently cameron monaghan’s last episode (but not really since he’s going to be a regular in season 10 again), and if you’re hinting at the episode’s ending in your ask then OMG IDK IF I LIKE IT OR NOT EITHER LMAO!!!
((SPOILERS FOR SHAMELESS SEASON 9 AHEAD, so just skip everything from here on if you haven’t watched episode 6 yet))
THEY BROUGHT MICKEY BACK FOR LIKE 50 SECONDS AND MADE HIM IAN’S CELLMATE!!???!!??!? ASJKDJKHAKSHKASLKA I LITERALLY THREW MY LAPTOP A FEW FEET AT THAT!
i have so many conflicting feeling right now it’s confusing! i feel surprised, happy, and oddly disappointed at the same time. it’s weird how emotional i got. The scene brought me endless joy and great despair at the same time. i just really miss mickey; he will forever be my favorite! and i am still a big supporter of gallavich being endgame ((when reading the following rant, please, bear in mind that my fangirl heart was really pleased with the final gallavich scene, even though this contradictory burst of opinion might suggest otherwise.))
I mean let’s be honest, an ending to ian’s story without mickey just would have felt wrong. he’s been such an important part of ian’s life and the only significant partner he’s had, so bringing him back for ian’s goodbye felt only natural. they have been (and probably still are) profoundly in love. you can see that in every single one of their interactions through the seasons. and it was a sweet ending to the story, yeah, but it’s not the satisfying ending (or reunion) i hoped for! there is absolutely no resolution to their relationship and all the shit they have been through. that was my main issue with the episodes in season 7 too, they never talked their shit out. they’re back together and everything is fine, when, clearly, they still have a lot of issues to resolve because things didn’t always go smoothly with these two.
In season 1&2&beginning of 3, ian seemed to be the one more invested; but since at least the start of season 4 mickey is the one putting more effort into the relationship. obviously, ian is preoccupied with coming to terms with his mental illness, so clearly he has to take care of himself before taking care of his relationship. but i mean season 5 is mickey supporting and loving ian unconditionally, taking care of him when the gallaghers won’t. and what does mickey get in return? a cruel breakup, ian’s sudden nonchalance, and absolutely no closure. (the writers definitely could have handled this differently. the end to mickey’s character in season 5 and the start of season 6 was just one massive shit-show). the season 7 reunion was a mess too, ian&mickey both deserved a better ending to their epic love story than what they got during these two episodes. again, there was no real closure either, but it’s half-decent. and now in season 9, the writers just throw them in a cell, together, and then they are like “yeah look at this endgame that we totally planned for in advance! we love our amazing endgame! actually, we love it so much that we didn’t even give it more than 50 seconds of screen time to give them some kind of satisfying closure! this was totally not rushed and unprepared because we are excellent writers! yeah, #gallavich #endgame, am i right?” so yeah, as much as i love that ian and mickey are reunited, i am disappointed with how their (apparent) ending was handled.
I NEED TO SEE THEM TALK THEIR RELATIONSHIP OUT! i need them to find a balance. i need them to get on the same page and not have mickey give and give while ian only takes and takes. it’s like ian is only with mickey when it’s convenient while mickey will always choose ian first, no matter what. everthing mickey does is for ian. mickey returned and sacrificed his freedom for ian. HE TURNED HIMSELF IN AND RATTED ON HIS CARTEL TO BE IN PRISON WITH IAN BECAUSE HE KNEW IAN WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME DEALING WITH HIS INCARCERATION ON HIS OWN! He cares so much about ian while, apparently, ian can’t seem to give two shits about mickey whenever he’s not around, from what we were shown. ian never went the extra mile for mickey thus far. ((that’s not really on ian, it’s the writer’s fault, but it taints the relationship nonetheless. they finally need to decide if they want gallavich to be endgame or not. they can’t keep their option open forever without ruining the ship.))
i love my boy mickey so much and seeing him hurt and heartbroken time and time again just destroys my soul. (like he repeatedly suffers bc he cares too much and loves too hard, that’s just not fair.) he deserves happiness, and i am not sure if that’s what will happen now that he’s in prison with ian as his cellmate. though i hope he and ian eventually get a proper happy ending, it’s become more and more unlikely, from what i have gathered. with ian’s character being back on season 10, this apparent gallavich endgame isn’t really a save endgame at all!!
cameron returning for season 10 is amazing, but i honestly don’t believe gallavich will survive ian’s return to the show. cameron stated in an interview that he chose to return bc he was intrigued by ian’s storyline for the next season. he also stated, in the same interview, that he would like to see ian bettering himself and growing into a responsible adult who takes care of his siblings, exploring stories beyond the quest of seeking and maintaining romantic relationships – which i think is fantastic, don’t get me wrong! with that being said (and noel fisher probably not returning for season 10), i don’t really see a chance for gallavich surviving past their prison reunion. are they ever going to be endgame? frankly, i am not sure. depending on how well they handle mickey’s departure this time around, there might still be hope. maybe i am too pessimistic, i don’t know? mickey’s character and gallavich have suffered so much due to bad writing, idk how much more both can endure before it’s Too Much. you know what i mean?
i hope i am wrong with my assumptions because i’d love to see ian and mickey’s relationship flourish again. they are one another’s big, true love, and they deserve a well-written happy ending.
my biggest fear atm is that they are simply going to kill off mickey so they don’t have to bother with the fans wanting noel and the gallavich relationship back.
I feel like, at this point, the writers should stop playing with us and either give us the gallavich relationship mickey and ian deserve or kill this ship for good. I think my heart can’t handle seeing mickey being poorly written out of the show in season 10 for a third/fourth time. it’s just… he deserves sm better!
despite my worries i try to remain hopeful, though!
#thank you so much for your ask#like all the other ones before this saved my life#i really needed to get all of this out#you're a blessing#my shipper heart is still in agony but i could relieve some of y pain#i am happy ian&mickey are reunited in prison#and have time to catch up and love each other (hopefully)#but i am still critical how things will progress from this point on#particularly in season 10#i have an inkling my shipper heart will be disappointed once again#gosh i can't handle losing mickey a third time tbh#jahsjkahsfjafksdkld#anyway let's hope for the best#mish watches shameless#anon#answer#Anonymous#btw i am sorry my answer is such a structureless mess#i tried my best to be coherent but i think i failed#i hope you still get the gist of what i am trying to explain#if not please let me know and i will try to elaborate my thoughts when my feelings have settled again#i am still super emotional#i just watched 3 hours of gallavich scenes on youtube#i am a mess

Note: I want their relationship so much except maybe without the broken bones.... SPOILERS FOR SEASON 9 OF COURSE.
---------
It was starting to get to Ian.
“Stop staring,” he said, looking over at his cellmate. Mickey had been looking at Ian for the past hour, trying hard not to be completely disgusted.
“I can’t,” Mickey said. “It’s fucking insulting.” Mickey made another face of distaste before shoving further away from Ian, tucking himself into the corner of the bottom bunk where the two men recently celebrated their reunion. Ian was still trying to comprehend how Mickey had even orchestrated becoming his cellmate and he didn’t have the energy to deal with any of this right now.
“I was going to run, Mick,” Ian said with an exasperated sigh. He then turned to Mickey, trying to get closer to him, but Mickey wasn’t having it.
“Yeah, well maybe you should’ve just kept goin’ if you were gonna show up like that,'' Mickey said with a scoff. Ian sighed again, trying to stop himself from throttling the man he loved.
“It’s just hair, Mick,” Ian tried again.
“No, it’s just wrong,” Mickey said as he glared at the dark curls that were on top of his boyfriend’s head rather than the bright orange locks he had fallen in love with. “It’s a heinous crime. You should get another couple of years added to your fucking sentence for this atrocity."
“Mick…” Ian said again, trying to get his boyfriend to see reason.
“Nope, not liking it. It won’t stop fucking staring at me,” Mickey said. “I miss my carrot top and you killed him.”
“You are so fucking dramatic,” Ian said, leaning back against the stone wall and tucking his leg underneath him. Mickey scoffed again.
“Says ‘Gay Jesus’,” Mickey said with a knowing look.
“Shut up,” Ian said, smacking him with a pillow. “I didn’t pick the damn name.”
“You didn’t correct them either, did you?” Mickey said with his brows raised. “Fuck, Ian, there are better ways to run away from the cops.”
“What? Like going to Mexico?”
“Worked for me,” Mickey said, splaying his hands. “All I am saying is that when people run from the law, dying their hair is the number one thing pigs expect. I thought you were smarter than this, man.”
“Are you more pissed that I was going to run or that I dyed my hair?” Ian asked.
“Take a fucking guess, fire-crotch,” Mickey said as he sulked. Ian laughed and then moved into his space. Mickey glared at him but remained where he was. He still had the image of Ian’s face burned in his mind when the younger man had turned around and saw Mickey enter the cell with a smug look on his face. They had had a lot of reunions over the years, but this one took the damn cake. Mickey had never been happier to be in prison than right now.
“I’m sorry I dyed it,” Ian said, giving Mickey an innocent look that held so much love. Mickey, unable to resist him, gave in and reached his hand up to pull his tattooed fingers through Ian’s hair.
“I guess I’ve done worse shit to avoid the cops,” Mickey rationalized.
“You literally put on a dress, heels, and a wig,” Ian reminded him and Mickey shrugged, remembering that look well.
“You were the one who said I have great legs,” Mickey said, reminding Ian of the conversation they had after Mickey had come out. After Terry had beat the shit out of both of them.
“Oh my god,” Ian growled, “shut up.” Ian grabbed Mickey by the back of the neck and pulled him in for a kiss, savoring the way their lips always fit perfectly together.
Ian remembered the first time Mickey had kissed him in the van in Ned’s driveway. He had nearly danced with joy as Mickey pressed his lips to his before following his brothers into the house. Of course, the celebration was short-lived as Mickey was then shot by JimmySteve’s mother with a shotgun. Still, it was one of Ian’s favourite memories. “I missed you so much,” Ian said as he pulled back, letting his forehead lean against Mickey’s.
“I missed you, too,” Mickey said, pressing a kiss to Ian’s nose which made the latter grin. “And I’ve missed being able to do this,” he whispered.
“What?” Ian asked, needing Mickey to keep talking.
“Just being able to touch you, kiss you, feel you near me,” Mickey whispered as he ran his hand over the side of Ian’s neck, feeling his pulse beneath his fingers. “You’re still under my skin, Gallagher.”
“Good,” Ian said as he kissed him again, letting his tongue linger longer, basking in the taste of Mickey Milkovich. Mickey was the one to pull back this time, settling next to Ian and picking up his hand. Lacing their fingers together, Mickey played with Ian’s hand.
“Was it all because you were off your meds?” Mickey asked. “The whole van burning thing, or was it something else?” Mickey had been curious since he caught wind of Ian’s Gay Jesus crusade. He recognized the signs of Ian being in a manic episode from the few news clips he managed to see in Mexico. All he wanted to do was call Fiona or Lip and tell them to get Ian some help, but he knew he couldn’t. Still, it had torn him apart to see the love of his life going off the rails.
Ian leaned into him, watching Mickey’s movements. “Partly,” Ian confessed. “I think I was just lost, you know? Wanted to feel important again.”
“I get that,” Mickey said. “I was like that for a while down South, never really knowing what I was doing or where I was going.”
“Yet you came back,” Ian said, sighing deeply.
“I always do,” Mickey said, looking over at Ian who’s eyes were already trained on the raven-haired man.
“I’m glad you did,” Ian said. “I don’t feel grounded when you’re not here. I feel like I’m gonna disappear and nobody is gonna notice.”
“It’s impossible to forget you,” Mickey said. “Every day I thought about you from the moment I crossed the border.” Ian frowned then and Mickey could feel the guilt pouring off of him. “Don’t,” Mickey warned, but Ian had to say it.
“I’m sorry I didn’t go with you,” Ian said. “I should have gotten in that fucking car.”
“Don’t apologize,” Mickey said. “I get it. You had your shit together and I was only going to ruin you.” Ian was reminded then about something Fiona had told him after they had found out Mickey had escaped, that Mickey would set a match to his life. What Fiona didn’t know was that Ian was more than willing to get burned.
“You could never ruin me,” Ian said, grabbing Mickey’s face and forcing him to look him in the eyes.
“I’m sure your sister would disagree,” Mickey said, knowing well that Fiona had had a change of heart about him after the whole Sammi debacle.
“Fuck Fiona,” Ian whispered. “She’s not even here anymore and my family loves you.”
“Really?” Mickey asked with a raised brow. “Even Lip?” Ian grimaced.
“Okay maybe not everyone, but Lip will come around.”
“Right,” Mickey scoffed. Suddenly, there was a loud crash and the sound of fighting as an inmate got into with a guard. Ian tightened his hold on Mickey as a habit. Mickey then remembered that even after living in the chaos that was the Southside, Ian never liked loud noises. “You'll get used to it,” he said, rubbing his thumb along the back of Ian’s hand. “And I’ll protect you,” he said with a wink, causing Ian to laugh.
“Is that so?” Ian challenged.
“Hell yeah, I always gotta look out for my carrot top.” Mickey then frowned, “Well, you know, when he's actually here,” he said once again glaring at the dark hair on Ian’s head.
“God, fine,” Ian said. “I'll shave it. Would that make you happy?” Mickey grinned, tugging Ian back into him.
“Ecstatic,” Mickey said, dragging his hand along Ian’s chest and down his stomach. Ian captured his lips, nearly pulling the older man on top of him. Mickey tangled their legs together as they resumed an earlier position. Bracing himself on either side of Ian, Mickey looked down at him with love in every inch of his body. “Don’t leave me again,” Mickey said, nearly desperate.
“Never,” Ian said, reaching up to run his thumb over Mickey’s soft lips. “You’re stuck with me.” Mickey grinned as he lay back down on his man. Ian then rolled them over so he was back on top and there was no argument from Mickey as Ian once again showed him just how much he missed him.

I know it might be an unpopular opinion, but I am happy with prison endgame. Would I like another scene after they are out of prison? That would be fantastic, but if I don’t get it I’m completely OK with where things are left between Mickey and Ian. They have been through so much, and ironically, this is the most stable environment that they’ve had to really be together since the beginning. Between Mickey’s dad and Ian is bipolar and Svetlana pulling her bullshit and Sammi pulling hers, and the crazy they’ve been surrounded by from the beginning, they’ve never really had the opportunity to just be. To explore their relationship without their families, or other outside influences fucking with them. At least not for longer than a short while.
But now, they are not only together, they are cell mates in a minimum security facility. They get to serve their time together, they get to work out any shit that they need to work out, and when they walk out of there, they are going to be free men. And ACTUALLY free, not just technically/physically free.
I don’t think a Shawshank-type ending would have been as satisfying, to be honest. Because even if Ian had run before getting sentenced, or if he had served his time and gone to reunite with Mickey afterward, Mickey still would not be a free man. He would still be a fugitive from the law. And they would always have to live their lives in hiding and in secret. Which, as a gay couple, is ironic if you think about it, but not in a good way.
I don’t think that they will necessarily fully live their lives on totally legal terms all the time after they get out, but at least they will have paid their debt to society, they’re not under the threat of immediate incarceration. They can live where they want, they can do what they want, and they have options. And they’re going to do it TOGETHER. I’m just so fucking happy right now you guys.

So, about the Gallavich endgame. Am I happy? Yes, of course. Am I still in the "Mickey Milkovich deserved better" mood? You bet I am. God knows how much I've been waiting for this moment and it was surely the highlight of this 2018 but still I don't like the way Mickey was being treated until the end. He basically become something Ian can get whenever he wants, as if Mickey were there like some rock statue waiting for him when the needy wishy washy kid feels like he's in the mood to have it. For Ian if Mickey's there and can do him, it's ok but if he isn't, it's ok as well. It wasn't Ian's fault when Mickey got locked up in season 5 and nor I am saying he should've gone to Mexico with him and upset the stability he had gained (job, boyfriend). He said "this isn't me anymore" and didn't get in the fucking car. Ok. But what did he do after that? Trevor forgave him for the little 2 days-adventure with his "ex-boyfriend" but later Ian fucked up the relationship anyway because he was only interested in fucking Trevor. Gay Jesus movement made him lose his job and made him not take his meds anymore. So, huh, this isn't me anymore Ian? I guess you would've had less trouble if you'd gone to Mexico. But anyway. It's for sure tho that Ian is, has always been and will always be in love with Mickey Milkovich only, it's that, it's finished, it's a love that he can't escape and that will last forever no matter how many "I've a fuckin boyfriend-s" he may say. I am not saying that he shouldn't have had moved on after Mickey got locked up and again after him escaping to Mexico (and I'm also okay with Ian not falling deeply for any guy) but if y'all are intended to show, every time they reunite, that deep and big love they share and that never faded, I AT LEAST expect y'all to show me while they're separated some moments in which Ian thinks about Mickey or at least I don't expect Ian not giving a fucking shit when Mickey's name is mentioned, like he was some random guy... I at least expect him to lose his breath for a bunch of seconds or him to get in a I miss him-mood for a fucking second. I don't expect Ian going to fucking "MR." Terry Milkovich to ask "how's life in prison", to the man who ruined his kid's life (who's supposed to be Ian's biggest love!!), who made a woman rape his kid in front of Ian and made him marry her because he was a fucking homophobic piece of shit. I don't expect the guy who's deeply in love with Mickey Milkovich to go to the man who basically beat his kids to death and was one of the reasons why Mickey in the early seasons wouldn't accept himself for who he was, was violent, beat Ian because "you love me and you're gay"; it was because of Terry Milkovich that Mickey let Ian go in s3 because this one was too upset by his behaviour. Terry Milkovich's actions ruined his kids' life and affected Ian's life too, he was the one who was about to fucking beat to death his son at the Alibi if the cops wouldn't have come just because he was GAY and you made Ian go to him all chill to ask that garbage how's life in prison? Oh my god. So yeah, Ian doesn't care for Mickey when he's not there and Mickey would instead upset his life to get back with him at any moment, he literally gave up his freedom to be locked up in a prison where he could reunite with Ian. I mean... I am so happy for this endgame but Mickey Milkovich deserved better and nobody fights me on that. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
