is the thing under juno’s eyes blood? paint? tattooed? who knows. i sure don’t. i know it makes him look whacky tho. also the color similarities between logan and juno are a lot less pronounced than i thought they would be so... win??

I finally settled on a design for Lily! Unfortunately the character customization has a lot to be desired for any hair that is not straight texture, so I’m kinda cheating with the poofy buns for now but lowkey hoping there will be a style in the full release that’s closer to her style than... what’s there rn 

mi-an goggles are really rough to draw when you don’t feel like drawing actual shapes 

i have a really thirsty doodle of owen in a dress somewhere that i did the last time brainrot kicked in, if i find it i’ll post it. anyway owen’s facial design is really “trust the process” territory because it never looks quite right in sketch (also the in game model and 2d art feel like COMPLETELY different ages but that’s besides the point)

5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?

hmmm. right now the one pingponging around in my head that i don't think i'm ever gonna get into is the tim and cass (ft. dick and kon) "a LOT of issues about gender" fic, in which cass is trying really hard to understand what gender and gendered language even fucking are, doesn't get why gendered pronouns are different for different people with seemingly arbitrary reasoning, and accidentally misgenders transmasc tim, who tries to explain to her that no he just really strongly prefers not to be called that, but she can tell she's hurt him but she doesn't get why.

it would get into a) tim's very convoluted feelings about gender (tim drake, jack drake's all-american son, is a boy. robin can't bind, though, because of all the strenuous activity; robin only has stiff shapewear in the costume. so robin isn't as good at being a boy as tim drake. and so on and so forth) and also b) cass's general "what the fuck do i do with any of this" approach to gender, attraction, and all that, and the way so much of it is tied to language. ft. kon, who gives tim gender envy he doesn't have words for (and whose automatic implicit assumption that of course robin is a boy, why would he even question that, always makes tim feel a little better when he's having a dysphoria day), and dick, who is best able to communicate things to cass bc dick's gender is "acrobat" and there is always an aspect of performance to it for him.

i am never gonna write this bc i don't wanna think about gender this much. and also it's complicated and subjective and just. augh. it'd be so much work. but i do think about it a lot

and unfortunately i would not necessarily assume that a harry potter fan would know better! as laura pointed out in her message it is more natural to assume that someone who is engaging with a fundamentally conservative piece of media created by a transmisogynist holds views that align w that media, unless that person has done something to make it very clear that they don't. like, i can only speak for myself here, but personally i feel wary of people who like...loudly + publicly talk abt how much they like hp, bc if i don't know anything abt u + ur talking abt how much u enjoy the hp books/movies/franchise it is more natural for me to assume that u share at least some of the politics contained within them, or that u either don't care that jkr is a terf or r so blind 2 trans issues that u don't even know, neither of which makes me feel safe around someone lol. within hp fandom i basically only interact w people who have made it clear that they do not politically align w hp by being critical of the series + jkr, which is why i also tend 2 be wary of people who get very defensive when someone criticizes hp fandom--bc i also do not think jkr + the series r something that can just be neatly excised from fandom as though they have nothing 2 do w each other, and so if ur critical of hp + jkr then it follows naturally that u should at least be open 2 criticism of hp fandom as well imo.

Im gonna drop a vent to you and I'm sorry for it you can just skip it if you like. I'm korean and a lesbian. I love kpop a lot, especially because some of my favorite idols imo speak to my experience in some of their art or the way they choose to work, you know? But with the new influx of westerners mainly with BTS, I'm starting to see more homophobic comments than usual and its making kpop spaces very uncomfortable for me. An example or two. I have certain opinions on Key and he is one of my favorite idols. But I saw for the first time in a while people saying things like he's not gay, he's korean, you all just think twink korean boys are gay and its because you're gay westerners and put this on them etc. This was from a westerner. Another one is after that now infamous wendy yst interview with twice members. I saw so many people saying things like sana can't be sapphic she's just a queerbaiting kpop idol she's so het so straight she dresses so girly she's trying to bait you for money blah blah blah., you can assume her sexuality because it's offensive to think she's sapphic, no lesbian looks like that, she was only being a friendly gal pal (that was flirting like are people stupid). I'm a femme korean lesbian mind you. I saw it with Moonbyul too after shutdown like I've seen people on twitter say you still can't call her a sapphic because its an assumption when she wrote...that song. I feel like I can't walk through kpop spaces now without some weird almost coloniser rhetoric about us and about how we express queerness, or painting us as always being money grabbing opportunists who are never queer sincerely and like comparing idols like Key to Harry styles as if they are in remotely the same position, and there's just this intersection of how it makes me feel about my race and my sexuality that really hurts. I felt so triggered after that wendy interview seeing the way mostly western people absolutely had to straight zone Sana and ascribe her racially charged characteristics, same thing with key this week with his stages and wearing those clothes. I mean for me I am happy to say I think so and so idol is a sapphic or a gay man but there's this new thing with western people who demonise this and think koreans or asians can't be gay? Sorry I don't understand it that well and my english isn't that good.

hello! yes i've talked about this stuff at length there's a really ugly social media phenomenon that's been building for years and it's really a mix of general homophobia, orientalism, and how people talk about queerness on twitter/sns in general. it's really annoying and it's really ugly and lots and lots of people are out there being simply wrong and racist and homophobic and there's nothing we can do about it. i'm sorry it's making u uncomfortable it makes me p uncomfortable too.

i have said it before on my blog and it is pretty clear for gay korean people when korean celebrities might be gay or not. westerners have a hard time telling what is standard behavior for korean people when it comes to fashion, self-presentation and care, and behaviors with other people. most male idols do not fit standards of western masculinity and do not fit korean standards for masculinity either but it is simply the job of an idol to look youthful and pretty and fashionable and those things are seen as gender noncomforming to many people including many koreans. there is also a clear distinction between queer idols flagging to their fans that they are queer and actual kpop queerbaiting which is when companies have idols pair up and flirt with each other as a marketing scheme or put little nods to the profitable gay audience but don't actually care. and there are also straight korean celebrities that genuinely care about their lgbt fans and want to express that as well. we can discern these things and many westerners can too, many people simply do not try.

it's orientalism that makes people think that korean and asian people generally can't be gay because we live in conservative countries as if the west is not even more violent toward lgbt people in many ways. they have an inability to see asian people as actual human populations with many kinds of people with many experiences, they take the surface level of asian countries that they can consume as the absolute truth and think they know everything about us.

and overall people just say dumb shit constantly and the online environment for kpop fans is becoming so noxious because of things like twitter culture cultivating cruelty and quick shock value statements as the kind of humor that gets popular and how mainstream kpop is becoming.

it's genuinely hurtful esp when people say this stuff about key because he is so careful and caring about flagging and talking about acceptance and confidence in your own identity and key has been facing homophobia his entire career. the people that know what he is communicating to us as lgbt fans can tell very easily. there's a new flood of people being cruel about him and to him, even putting homophobic slurs in his comments and thinking that's not a malicious thing to do. have not personally seen the harry styles comment if anyone said that in front of me in real life i would genuinely consider physical violence. like. excuse me???

6. Your view on Mary/Gary sues?

I can't lie and say I'm not a little iffy around them. Bearing in mind I'm referring to characters with nonsensical powers, no flaws, always the chosen one/main character in plots etc.

I won't ever bully anyone for them, but I am not really interested in roleplaying with them either. I've been rping for almost 18 years at this point, and way back in the day, Mary/Gary sues were seen as super cringe and made up by very immature or unskilled writers. I've also had a few bad interactions with such characters over the years, so I'm just kind of adverse to interactions with them at this point, since they kinda suck the fun out of writing for me. I'm more open to them in single media, but as far as roleplay goes, I'm not a fan.

I don't really have anything to say here other than go wild lol. Doesn’t bother me any, and it doesn't stop me interacting with them either.

Lack of communication, specifically related to ghosting. I've honestly had it with people just ghosting others and ignoring any attempts at communication. I've had it happen before, and honestly I wish people would just tell me things. Even an "I hate ur writing and don't wanna write with u anymore" would be appreciated just !!! Tell me !!! the opening backstory monologue: fictional historical set w empress in charge instead an emperor? I am intrigued. First time for me in CN palace dramas. I honestly don't know anything about this empress' reign, so I'm going in completely cold here.

Good intro on the 3 mains. The female inner guard character is immediately appealing. Mr Scraggly Hair is appropriately mysterious. Scholarly official boy is less immediately interesting, except his fussy but practical officialness and intensity about food reminds me of Tang Fan from Fourteenth Year of Chenghua. and I LOVE that character, so I'm inclined to like him. (Also interested to see if this actor can do more than Lan Wangji.)

Enjoying the little touches of how this isn't exactly the standard ancient china drama: first royals we're introduced to are empress, princess, crown princess;  there's a character reluctant to marry (likely to maintain their independence) but being forced to by their parents, but this time it's a son, not the daughter. There's a palace guard with doubts who you just know will get wrapped up in dangerous politics, but this time that guard is a woman.

It's just these subtle differences. No intentional gender play; writer is just telling a story and the story is comfortably familiar in many ways, but just w a slightly different flavor.
