they mean everything to me,, (receiving your question right after i got one that says "yaoi" was very fun for me. yeah thats my yaoi <3) Spoilers for the entire DLC, including whats past the youtube TL! I mention things from Hermit Room. quotes are paraphrased or referenced bc i am too lazy to dig for them.

I have another seosane essay somewhere in drafts but i can't find it rn and it's not edited so you're getting my current stream of consciousness <3

sanemitsu and seodore are two people who, by the end of dlc, have very different perspectives on how to handle the timeline and what should be done. Sanemitsu in particular goes through several perspectives on this, varying from his POV pre-1999, 1999-2015, S root, and S+. They are parallels and narrative foils, and this shapes how they interact with each other.

From their first interactions, they both have something that the other party wants. Seodore promises that Sanemitsu can change things, if they can reach Gods Love. Sanemitsu is critical to changing things (as we see in the start of DLC/S root). You can see them talk about this in record 4, where neither of them will know if Sanemitsu's ability has activated or taken effect. Seodore wants Sanemitsu to use this ability. Sanemitsu resists because he knows that if he changes the past, then he'll lose Reiji. Reiji, who is his number one priority, who he's clinging to as tight as he can.

But they appreciate each other. There's fondness. Their breakfast conversation at the end of DLC highlights that despite them ending up on different perspectives on the past, they still understand each other.

What always stands out to me is in Hermit room, there is a choice that the player can make. The two options are (paraphrased):

Even if we gained something at the end of it, it would have been better if none of it had happened. [better to change the past even if we gained something in the end]

If we gained something at the end of it, then we can't say that it would have been better that none of it had happened. [better that the past happens (good and bad), if we gained something in the end of it]

This choice is both paralleling Sanemitsu's perspective change in S vs S+, and the perspective of Seodore versus Sanemitsu (and System.NH) as two halves of the same whole. They're foils, and remain on good terms despite their differing POVs.

it's about the Metafiction. Sanemitsu doesn't break the fourth wall until after our current point in canon (System.NH is 2019 and also Outside the Timeline). Seodore breaks it ALL the time bc he Knows but doesnt SEE. Tangent but can you tell I really like the metafiction groups. I like System.NH + Seodore + Mutei, I think it's fun.

It's about the quiet things going on in the background. About blood, about factors, about inheritance. The contrast between the domesticity of daily life (seodore canonically makes him breakfast!). It's about "I'll take your hand, Seodore" (PARAPHRASING AGAIN) and things left unspoken. It's about what he says about Seodore in his journal from 1999. (see just before record 4. yt tl doesnt show us whats inside unfortunately).

Also it's SO good that they have other priorities than each other. They both know and are fully aware of this and it's so <33

This is why I like the intro scene to DLC so much too-- they both know that they're dying there. Even if this plan works, even if things change, even if the interaction between the Rainbow Factor Artifact (Malkuth) and Respawn means that there's a chance to save Reiji, then the selves that exist in this moment still die. This is peak yaoi to me.

There is something to be said about how sanemitsu refuses to risk using this power, until the very last moment. He only does so when Reiji is dead and he's lost the last person he wanted to cling to so desperately.

Fun Fact: Seodore has his eyes closed for this entire scene except for ONE frame as sanemitsu raises the blade <3

I realize a lot of this is about them as a duo but not necessarily in a shipping lens oops.

From the lens of them as a COUPLE, they dont talk about it LMAO. They are doing couple things and ignoring their feelings about it bc theyre both still mourning other people. I do think they're the kind of couple who do domestic things like grocery shopping together,, cooking,, sitting around at home,, a casual kind of comfort in each other. The hand holding symbolism gets to me. "ill take your hand" linked with THIS SCENE, RIGHT AFTER THAT LINE. Linked with Sanemitsu's scarred hand only being present in S+ because it comes from killing Seodore. They mean everything to me.

This is going to be very controversial and liable to get me into trouble, so behind a cut I go lol.

I think I mentioned this once, a long time ago - but I saw this breakup coming a mile away, and am surprised how nobody else did.

Sam never made it a secret that he saw marriage of a deathknell of sorts; an end to his youth, to his fun, to Sam as he knows it. He always said he didn't want to get married until he was well into his 30s, and there was no part of him that was honestly acting like someone that was changing their minds on that.

If anything, he seems to be age regressing, but I digress lol.

My best assumption as to what happened is that Kat and Sam had been talking about marriage for some time, but in very broad terms ie: "when we get married someday, we'll do this." Sam was fine with that, because someday is a vague as fuck target that he could move the goalposts on any time he felt like.

But I think sometime in 2022, Kat starting wanting more. She wanted to finally be treated like a priority, and not just the girl he was casually dating. They both alluded to arguments they had about how Sam always worked and couldn't spend enough time together, which I'm sure was grating on her after 7 years of it.

So, Sam starts trying to spend more 1:1 time with her. Date nights, domestic dinners with just the two of them, mini-vacations, hiring editors for himself so he had more time throughout his days...the whole run. And this worked, for a while.

But the thing with this, is that both of them saw this move differently.

Kat saw Sam prioritizing her and their relationship as a step in the right direction, towards marriage. Sam saw it as a plateau move in their relationship; a way to continue to stave off the inevitable creeping hands of old age and death for as long as possible.

So, Kat starts bringing up their marriage plans again and at first, Sam is down for it because he's still looking at it as a vague, far off and almost hypothetical goalpost that he can move whenever HE wants, so he's all "yea sure, we'll do that," and he's into it and everything is hunky dory.

And then one day he realizes something: Kat isn't speaking in hypotheticals anymore. She's starting to move the goalpost, instead of letting him be in control of it.

And we all know Sam loves being in control of everything, at all times.

Now, he's starting to lose control on the marriage situation. He's starting to feel pressure to live by someone's else plans and timetables, instead of his own.

And then Colby gets cancer, and boom - another situation he has absolutely zero control over.

And I think one day he just flipped. Who knows what actually sparked him making the decision to break up with her; maybe it was a massive case of flight or fight and he (weirdly) chose flight. Maybe he just felt like he needed to remove one stressful out of control situation from his life, and he certainly wasn't going to cut Colby out in the middle of all that, so Kat lost.

Who knows, maybe he was still freaked out about Colby and Kat made the mistake of pressuring him to prioritize wedding planning in the midst of all that.

Or maybe, just maybe, all of the pressure and the loss of control and the fear of being forced into this "deathknell" situation of marriage tailspun him into a massive midlife crisis.

Who knows what triggered it, honestly. But I'm not surprised it happened, not at all.

I feel really bad for Kat, because I think the situation is so out of left field and painful - and then to top it off, she had to slap on a smile and hide it for months while fans continuously spammed her with things like "oh Sam, you need to wife her up" and stuff like that. And then they film that video and he's there - the man who literally switched up out of the blue - sobbing and saying how great their relationship was and framing himself as the hero of their story and of course she had no reaction, she was angry and hurt! But now he's getting all the sympathy and she's getting all the hate for a breakup she clearly did not ask for, want, or see coming.

It's truly awful, and I feel for her.

But honestly, it's for the best. They can both move on, find themselves, find who they are as people outside of being "Satrina" and grow.

THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY breakdown

as always i am transcribing the little notes i took on my phone during the experience

the three things i knew about this film before i started were 1. valeris secret villain? some kind of mind-meld forced on spock? 2. worf's grandpa 3. kirk and bones sentenced to hard labor on planet hoth. other than that i went in blind

im glad they opened with CAPTAIN!!! sulu. i feel like he couldnt be there during filming but im so relieved he got parts anyway <3

also quite shocked to see janice rand?! god bless. she was like, i've undergone so much unbelievable bullshit. lemme get that star trek money. and then she did <3

the ship shaking in this movie was VERY realistic. the m,ost realistic yet. idk why they would have glass tecups in this situation though...maybe they just like to watch them break dramatically

uhura is still so beautiful in this movie. i don't know how she gets more beautiful in every star trek thing she appears in but she did it 6 times in a row. queen

first cry of the evening was when spock showed up but it was a SHORT cry because i had just cried about him in tng two days ago.

loved his little domestic spat with kirk at the beginning. the giant space between them. doing it in public. the absolute death glares. who's in the woodshed NOW (sorry for saying woodshed)

kirk being racist was an unexpected detail but i get it. you gotta have somebody being racist to nail home this story's message or whatever. i just figured it'd be bones. then again the klingons didn't kill his kid

that one bald klingon who kept eyefucking everybody he looked at. king. i know the phrase eyefucking is out of date because we overused it but there is simply no other way to describe it. he was there to leer at men suggestively and recite a batshit amount of shakespeare. and he did a great job

i had so much fun playing spot the tng set. they kept those rooms SO dark so we wouldn't recognize them but i did anyway.

the anti-gravity scene was SO so so so cool and good. like, the 90s cgi purple pepto bismol blood took me out of it a little but we have been saying every time something fucked up their little ship "how is the gravity still on rn." and the answer, always, is "it's on bc no-grav scenes cost money." FINALLY we got a no gravity scene. such a profound sense of both awe and closure

the violence was shockingly gorey too. like we had severed arms and real blood flying everywhere. idk that any of the trek i've watched so far has been quite that explicit

the scene where bones tries to save the klingon high chancellor. 10/10. bones the healer begging to be allowed to save lives. him jumping straight up onto that table and straddlign that man. him digging his hands into all that klingon blood. what a fine moment. it was a little homoerotic of that guy to grab kirk in the spiderman kiss pose as he was dying too

sarek cameo <3 it felt weird to see him alive right after he died

i did wonder why they didn't just have saavik in this film instead of valeris...i guess that saavik fans would have been mad if the send-off for the character was to make her a backstabber. but it would have felt more believable that spock be blind to her passions because she was also his protege. it also would've made the mind meld (WHICH. WOW. GETTING TO THAT) all the more tragic. valeris does a great spock eyebrow but she's not as compelling as saavik and she doesn't have the backstory so even if i hadn't had the spoilers i would have suspected her

things i didnt like: that one colonel guy saying terrorism and mr scott saying bitch. watch your mouth, gentleman.

the trial was fine (i still have trial fatigue) but i find it hard to believe klingons dont have tear ducts. what if they get something in their eyes? i loved seeing worf. i loved bones's little arthritis joke. frail little old waif of a man <3

kirk getting his ass handed to him over his personal logs is why you don't make personal logs. even funnier: their thing where they were like yeah but he has a record of [lists 1000000 crimes kirk has committed]. that was funny because it was true.

unexpected: both the cigar and the hot alien lady. i don't know what either of them were even doing there. she literally macked on kirk right in front of bones's salad. idk if we can count this as a close encounter though considering how short it was

i loved kirk's little fight where he nutshotted the alien. and their little prison outfits. and them snuggling up on bed together to stay warm <3 also bones being like and one day PFFFT kobayashi maru, that's it! quintessential bones behavior.

AMANDA GRAYSON RELATED TO SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE??? cmon.

mixed feelings about the shapeshifter. double kirks was great (once again: william shatner plays a woman) and hilarious especially when they smooshed poor bones. double especially when she was like yeah well i bet you always wanted to kiss yourself anyway. that little girl giving kirk a saucy wink was maybe less fun. it would have been a close encounter if they'd fucked i guess

spock's forced mind meld: i thought this was something done TO him, not something HE DID. imagine my shock. there's a little mirror spock in him after all. it was absolutely fucking ruthless. i have a little pet theory that everyone in the mirrorverse is really the same - it's only their circumstances that turned them into monsters. it's not always viable and it's not always as fun as them just being evil and edgy, but this does lend it evidence <3

Dabi, or Touya, as you’ve recently taken to calling him, hates it when meaningless holidays come around but he does love any opportunity to show you even a tiny fraction of his appreciation for everything you do.

You cook for him, bandage him up after a bad night, remind him to take a breath and cool down. These are all things he sees as luxurious, comforts he closed himself off from for far too long. Your tasks may be part of your everyday life but they mean more to him. The fact that he’s part of your everyday life now…it still confuses him how you let it get that far in the first place. He doesn’t ask questions, though. He accepts every time you scrub his scalp in the shower with your fresh smelling shampoo and gladly falls asleep next to you when he can. Blissful domesticity.

At least until he stepped into the cramped kitchen in your apartment.

It’s perfectly sized for one and you have everything where you can find it but you aren’t here and fuck if Touya isn’t having a bitch of a time finding a cutting board to chop up some vegetables for the dinner he planned on making you. 

“This place is so small…how the fuck…” he trails off as he pulls out another drawer, eyes widening as he finally finds the small plastic board he has watched you chop on a million times. 

It’s one of his favorite sights even though he plays it off. Even when he was still just sneaking through your window instead of unlocking the door with a key, he loved to watch your brow furrowed in concentration with each slit and cut. 

Digging in his pocket, he pulls out the recipe he saw in a magazine at the store and ripped off of the back page. Smartphones aren’t meant for a man involved in the things he gets into so he defaults to something a little old fashioned. Touya just hopes you find it endearing as he scans over the words, blinking as he reads over each of them.

“Chop vegetables, yeah whatever.” 

Scanning the page one last time before he places the recipe on the counter and takes a deep breath, he offers a sideways smile when you pad out of the bedroom towel drying your hair. The sight of Touya standing in your kitchen with a tea towel flung over his shoulder shouldn’t make your stomach flip the way that it does but here you are, with a silly grin on your face walking in his direction. 

“Cooking?” Your tone is incredulous and he scoffs, white t-shirt hanging off of his frame just enough you can see a peek of his shoulder blade and collarbone. It’s tantalizing and you’re tempted to touch and feel and do something else less dinner related but the prospect of him cooking for you is too intriguing to pass up. “Don’t act so surprised. Was on my own for a long time before I found you.”

He’s right and you soften slightly, leaning against him as he passes the slip of paper with the recipe in your direction. You read and he watches as the corner of your mouth lifts in a half smile, eagerly waiting for your eyes to meet his.

“Sounds good?”

You nod, nuzzling your head against his shoulder. 

“Sounds perfect, actually.”

With your blessing he begins digging through your drawers for a knife.

It’s quiet in your home, and that can never mean anything good.

Axel’s home for breakfast for the first time in months, his schedule has been absolutely insane given the jobs he’s had to do. To be frank, you’re blessed to have even just today with your husband and catch up on the domestics needed while he watches over Ella.

Or in a perfect world, that’s how it would be.

“Hey, uh,” Axel’s voice calls from the kitchen, voice quivering slightly and it makes your brows furrow in concern. “Babe, can you uh… can you come here, please?”

And just by the sound of his voice, you know it’s either extremely serious or absolutely ridiculous, so without further thinking, you make your way into the kitchen, where Axel is leaning on the island, his elbows resting on the marble as large hands cover his mouth. Across from him sits your daughter, still in her pajama’s while munching on soggy Fruity Pebbles.

So far, so good…

“Ella, sweetie,” axel begins, hands scrubbing his face. “Can you ask that again- daddy didn’t- I don’t think I heard you correct, maybe mommy can help too.”

And as you plant yourself next to your husband, you watch in confusion as Axel struggles to stay composed, Ella matching your confusion as she shovels another spoonful in her mouth.

“When can we have lesbians again?”

You can’t fight the snort that slips from your mouth, your own hand flying up to cover your face. You feel bad, you never want to make your sweet child feel bad for asking questions-

But oh god, what.

“Ella, I don’t think I know what that is,” Axel continues, his teeth sinking deep into his lower lip. “W-What does that mean, what is that?”

“It’s lesbians!” She repeats, her toes drumming against the island while she annunciates the word. You’re trying so hard not to laugh, you feel Axel shaking while trying to hold back his own laughter.

“S-Sweetie,” you chime in, clearing your throat. “I really don’t think you’re using the right word, I don’t think that word means what you think it does, baby.”

“Yuh-huh!” She continues, her bottom lip pouting out as large green eyes blink curiously up at her parents. “It’s like… like spaghetti! Daddy made it before!”

“Oh, my god,” you wheeze, your head resting on Axel’s shoulder and facing away from your daughter. Your nails dig into the fabric of his night shirt as he takes deep breaths to contain and calm himself down.

“Do you…” he snickers and excuses himself briefly. “Do you mean lasagna, my love?”

“Uh-huh!” Ella finally confirms, and you watch her bounce excitedly in her seat. You clear your throat once again as you stand up straight, your hands smoothing out your shirt. “Yes hun, we can… we can have lasagna, soon. Sure.”

“Yay!” She cheers victoriously, all before slipping out of the high-top stool and making her way into the living room, abandoning the last of her cereal and her two struggling parents in the kitchen.

“Alexander,” you say, both in disbelief for what just happened, and scolding him because you have no idea where else she could have learned that word.

“Don’t look at me like that!” He cackles, raising his hands in defense. “I don’t talk like that in front of her, she must’ve learned it at school!”

“Alexander.”

Then, his brow cocks and he looks you up and down, a cheeky smirk finally taking residence on his cheek, now slightly flushed from holding in laughter.

“What can I say?” He hums, wrapping his arm around your shoulders. “She’s definitely my kid… Who doesn’t love a good lesbian?”

A burner account accused Manatreed of being the defendent in a domestic abuse case. The evidence they provided that it was him was that his chin looks similar, the name of the defendent is banned in his chat, and the word "girlfriend." The burner account said to not contact the girlfriend about it because she deserves to get to move on.

Issues with this;

1) The mods have said they banned the name because full names are TOS (I can't find this tweet rn is have to go search for it again)

2) People we're asking about his sexuality so it's reasonable for girlfriend to be banned

3) The victim did not come out and accuse him, some random person found a court case and decided to pin it on him ??

4) There's pretty much no way for him to prove it's wrong because posting a photo of an ID even while redacted is against Twitter TOS for good reason, because it can be used to dox your location

5) Multiple fake allegations have come up against Dreams friends (and one legitimate one). The one with real proof was treated very seriously. This is nothing like it because there is absolutely no proof and there is a lot of reason to believe someone would frame him for no good reason (a lot of people were mad yesterday that he blew up on his first stream)

6) I think that it's suspicious they said not to contact the girlfriend because she's probably the only person who could verify whether or not this is actually true although I do think it's dumb to drag her into something so questionable

I'm going to look for the actual court case but I'm kind of annoyed right now. I totally am on board with believe victims so it's so stupid that the victim isn't even involved in this. People are discrediting actual abuse victims and it's just hmmm

Writing still Bad and there is no new wildfire to share, so instead have some scattered prompts and oneshots i digged up. warning for nsfw banter on #2.

1. a little preview of a jenna x faith nsfw prompt ive been working on, excerpt itself sfw, just some domesticity:

And there were certain things she just wasn’t used to. 

One was having a partner who got up earlier than her. Jenna had paired with fellow early risers before, women who didn’t lodge any complaints about blaring 6 AM alarms or pre dawn coffee percolating. But she couldn’t say she’d ever been with anyone like Faith before — morning people were one thing, but she seemed to rise with the sun itself, alarm or no. 

Another was sleeping in. It wasn’t even an impulse she had to plan against, it was simply something she didn’t do. Even without an alarm, her body was well attuned to the circadian rhythm she’d meticulously set for it, and would come to life at a predictable time each day.

So she didn’t know what to make of it, at first — certainly didn’t think to feel along the mattress for her phone and check the time — when she awoke before her alarm rang and found morning light already glaring against her eyelids. 

Trailing tired eyes around the expanse of the room from her place still nestled under the comforter, she in fact didn’t even think to question if anything was amiss until her gaze settled on the blonde woman perched cross legged on the edge of the mattress, still dressed in the oversized lacy camisole she’d slept in, swinging legs back and forth playfully as she sat there, watching Jenna wake.

And the image itself still didn’t strike her as unusual, Faith did tend to wake up before her, after all, she’d at least begun to adapt to that. Until she realized the light spilling along her form glowed in bright oranges to warm the honey shade of her hair rather than the soft pinks of a sunrise bringing out the rosiness in her cheeks as she was accustomed to, and she felt the mildest spark of worry flutter in her chest as she stretched her arms above her head. 

“Faith darling,” she greeted pleasantly, pressing her weight into the heels of her hands as she propped herself up. “What time is it?”

“Is that him?” Helmi asked, craning forward to rest her chin atop the back of the seat and snaking a hand around to thread through copper locks and pull, keeping her in place against the headrest as they peered out the window together at the man entering the bar. “That’s your Ethan? For all the drama you went through to pull this little stunt, I would’ve expected you to at least pick a more interesting plaything.”

“Well, that’s probably because he’s not a plaything, and he wasn’t fucking selected for your interests. He’s a perfectly nice guy I’m going on a normal fuckin’ date with,” she grumbled, pulling away from the blonde’s grip and pretending the quick tugging at her hair to bring her back didn’t send exhiliarting sparks shooting down her spine to rush hot through her center. “And his name’s Evan,” she flung her head back to snap, leaning forward to bask in the sensation of one last rough tug of her locks before she gathered the mass of hair at its base to pull free of the woman’s grip, combing fingers through to smooth it to fall along her chest instead and reaching for the door handle. 

She swung the door open, pressing her thumb against the side of her phone to illuminate it and glance down at her messages in the brief moment she could shield the screen from the blonde’s watching eyes as she slid out of the car. Ian, actually. Close enough. 

“Oh, Evan,” Helmi hummed dismissively as she mirrored Jessie’s actions in stepping out of the car behind her. “And you find Evan interesting?” 

She tensed the corners of her mouth, leaving her brow relaxed, doing her best to show she was bored of the entire conversation as she turned back to address Helmi eye to eye for the first time. “I find him perfectly capable of giving midtier dick for at least fifteen minutes, which is really all I’m looking for tonight, so if you don’t mind —” 

“If that was really all you were looking for, I wouldn’t be here,” Helmi offered just as boredly. 

3. no reaping or no cult au idk yet jestiny x john prompt in which they are sitcom style snowed in and forced to discuss their feelings (please imagine a laugh track at the end of every paragraph)

She looked down at the icy white clumps tumbling to pile atop the doormat, waiting for the avalanche to still, settling around her ankles. 

“I told you —” he began, stepping up towards the entryway and reaching for the small of her back. 

“Wind’s blowing southwest today, last I checked,” she interrupted, shoving a foot forward to kick through a dense layer of ice and snow as she leaned away from him. “Probably just built up most around the doorway, sure everything else ��round here is just fine,” she said with a dismissive wave of mittened hand before swinging it forward to scoop a handful of snow to throw back into the threshold and clear a path for herself. 

“Check the road conditions at least before you try to drive home in this,” his voice sounded from behind her. “There’s no wifi or cell service once you get to the end of the driveway.” 

“Road conditions are it’s Montana in December,” she grumbled as she stomped a foot down to crush as much snow as she could beneath her boot, giving herself a decent platform of packed ice to use to keep scaling upward and away. “Don’t need a driving app to tell me that,” she added as she thrust a hand forward into the blinding white abyss, ignoring the searing burn of ice slipping between the thick layers of her jacket and gloves to cake along the sliver of soft skin exposed around her wrist. 

But just as she felt she was making progress scaling the wintery mound hugging the perimeter of the ranch, she took a step that made the snow crumble a little too quickly beneath her boot, hands worthlessly clawing and grasping for purchase as she slid backward along the icy coating of the ground, finally crashing against something solid in the form of sturdy arms slipped beneath hers then wrapped around her waist, pulling her back inside. 

“For fuck’s sake, Jessie,” he hissed into her ear, warm breath tingling against skin she hadn’t realized numbed. “Do you even have snow tires?”

Sambucky headcanons 'cause shit's goin' downhill..

Informing y'all that I am a mess rn 'kay so... let's do this

They both have this little game, it doesn't have a name but it's always a mystery for people who've just met them. Either of them begins by giving a controversial stance and the other one either agrees or disagrees. With an agreement, the game continues and with a disagreement, they simply have a fight; it's mostly to release anger.

Tea is a major red alert. If Bucky's making tea means something's headed to Hell in a handbasket. He does it even when he's indecisive regarding something, it's annoying but it's his way of communicating without saying anything.

Sam's super jealous of this guy whose photograph he saw in Bucky's jacket once. His name was Aleksey, bespectacled greyish blue eyes, dark and curly pastel brown hair, Soviet (a Renaissance sculpture™️) and a ballet dancer. He has tried to ask who he was but Bucky never replies, it's his frightening glare that stops Sam from pleading further. He tries to read up about him on the 'net and it's properly futile. He then asks Sharon if she can dig up a file or something and she does. Turns out he was a spy and after he fell in love with Bucky, he was killed by another spy. Sharon also tells him that he was sexually assaulted for several years by that spy; he never told anyone because he threatened he would kill Bucky. When asked, she told she had heard about him from a source which was a lie. It's after that Sam never mentions Aleksey, not even for light mockery.

It's a sheer delight to see Bucky hangry. He goes from well-composed and silent to cannibalistically violent in a span of just a few seconds when he feels that he needs to eat. It happens at regular intervals every week when he's bored and the comedy show is worth a live broadcast.

A cold war is what it is, window shopping. Sam just likes to flirt with people at random and it's nothing but his way of messing around. He goes on to flirt with Sharon once, she is totally oblivious but Bucky's drilling holes at the back of his head with The Stare. If only looks could kill; Sam didn't try anything like that ever again.

It's a secret well hidden but Bucky is OBSESSED with Sam's fashion sense. He's tried hard to find his own style but it keeps transitioning from totally badass to light academia to a wasted literature student trying to complete a poetry assignment.

Sam once bought Thai succulents because he had this weird hyper fixation on them and the house was full of them and Bucky was confused on why there were dying corals all over the place. Sarah came in to check on them and she had to clean the whole place up because watering them was becoming an agriculturist's job. It was a silent agreement that no one in the household is a plant person.

Something similar to this happened a few months later; Bucky decided they needed hobbies and he bought some small bonsai and ceramic pots and scissors and they got to work. What they had to do was graft a plant and water it for the rest of the year, like a mid-year resolution. They kept fighting for the scissors and pots but finally figured it out. Surprisingly, both the bonsai grew well (not much improvement because it takes time for them to actually grow), meaning they didn't die. Turns out, it was Sam taking care of the plants all along and Bucky had forgotten he potted one.

They're crappy but I wanted something domestic and life is hell and we're dying this weekend and this has been sitting here for five days in my drafts and it's annoying, so, here I am (rock you like a hurricane). Lmao, that was plain cringe, so sorry.

I 100% agree about wanting more fanfic lists! I honestly think it's the best way to get a variety. Everybody has personal preferences, if someone, who mostly reads long, fluffy au Brio fic, is making recs, they're not likely to mention short, angsty, canon Brio (which is understandable and fair!) so ideally someone else, who does like those, would also do recs. I'm pretty sure I've read or at least tried the vast majority of Brio fics, but the recs often make me re-read the fic and author.

YAAASSSS!!! I mean like, okay, I v much get why people have issues with rec lists, and I def do not by any stretch endorse the idea that recs/rec lists should be considered anything other than one person sharing a think they liked, but to me a lot of the issues (the same fics/authors getting recced, feeling like awesome fics/authors are going unrecognized) can be solved by more reccing, not less. everyone’s got different taste and different stuff they look/read for and I am extremely pro sharing that.

Idk, I think about it like this: in a previous internet life I was a YA book blogger and I lived and died by recs from other bloggers whose taste and preferences I knew. I mean, you know, I’d check out a book bc the premise sounded interesting but literally the first thing I would do was go to Goodreads and look for a handful of people who tended to like the same books I did and see what they were saying about it bc that was the best way to get a good idea of if I wanted to give it a shot. Or, on the flip side, there were some people whose reviews I followed bc I knew we v much did not read for the same things so if they hated a book for X, Y and Z reasons, I was probs going to like it (one thing about book blogging is if you want to keep current, you do not have a lot of time to mess around, snap judgements are key but that’s a whole other thing and idk if it’s even relevant anymore bc that landscape has changed so much). 

ANYWAY, the point is, I got in the habit and now I do the same thing with fic bc, tbh, I don’t have a ton of time to read, esp not when I’m actively writing which, with the exception of the last week or two, I’ve been doing p non-stop since I got here. All of which to say is, I am desperately in favor of fic recs for purely selfish reasons, I need them! Give them to me!!! Please!!!!!

That said, I uh, am v bad at returning the favor and I recognize that (I think I’ve made what? two rec lists for this fandom?) so I will try to do better to live by my own, idek what this is, moving on and here are 10 recs not really thematically linked by anything other than I’ve read them and loved them and don’t think I’ve put any of them on one of my rec lists yet (and if I have, my blog is a trainwreck I cannot be expected to remember what’s on it LET ME LIVE):

The Goodest Boy by EnsignDisaster

There’s a key turning in the lock and Buddy rushes over to greet his Master excited for her to meet his new friends. The door opens and he dances around Master’s feet rejoicing on the fact that she’s made it home. It's been literally forever.

“Hey Buddy what’s wrong? Need to go potty? Need to pee-pee?”

“Nah he’s good we took him out.”

Master does something very unMasterlike, she drops all the food she’d brought in on the ground and screams. It’s a non traditional avant garde type of hello…Buddy loves it. Mostly because while Master taps furiously on her small light box and sits tense in the corner opposite his new friend Buddy can lick up the egg smashed on the hardwood floor.

Buddy! The! Dog! POV! no further explanation necessary. Technically WIP, but it covers the whole pilot in a way that could be read as standalone (THOUGH THAT WOULD V MUCH GIVE ME A SAD though, when did the show forget the Bolands had a dog? so maybe that’s a tragic casualty of canon, idk)

May The Moon’s Silvery Beams by @pynkhues

Emma hums in agreement, and Rio turns her around to sit her on the counter, grabbing one of the older looking boxes of muesli while she kicks her legs out, heels bumping back against the counter, watching him. He gropes around the inside of the box, finally just opting to pull the plastic cereal bag out and peering inside. He can’t quite keep the grin off his face when he sees the wad of cash lining the bottom. This woman kills him, she really does.

Then there’s a little face peering up beside him, trying to peek into the box.

“What is it?” she asks, and he tilts the box sideways so she can see inside.

The upside to not getting here until s3 is that old fic is new to me! Huzzah!! Idk how many of y’all have already read this on but if you haven’t I highkey recommend. Extremely cute take on what if Emma woke up when Rio and came by to collect his/Beth’s/whoever's money during the shutdown. Cannot believe I’m reccing kidfic. Witchcraft!!!!!!

Maybe You’re My Fantasy by ohmisterjapan

He fucking loves the involuntary. It speaks to how he likes to unlock chaos and walk away. He's been called a control freak before and it felt like such a misunderstanding of him - he's all about self control but he doesn't want to control others. It's more that he enjoys revealing to them how little they can control themselves. It's more that he likes to stand still in the eye of someone else's storm and pick coldly through the wreckage.

Another oldie but a goodie. This fic is more like an extended character study (first chapter Rio POV, second chapter Beth) and I LIVE FOR THIS KIND OF SHIT. I really really really love the take on both characters, it really digs in and pulls out some nuances that made me sit and think about my own read of them and I love it.

A Shock Of Blue by mintletters16

“You don’t look very well. Would you… like me to get you a glass of water or something?”

Her voice is low but smooth, laced with a softness that cuts straight though to his core. Strawberry blonde locks fall gently just above the pair of magnets freezing him in place.

He can still feel the chaos tearing through his veins - emanating from the gold plated gun stuffed in his waistband - and suddenly he can’t be here anymore. Can’t meet this wide-eyed gaze that’s been locked on his for the past God-knows-how-long anymore.

Can’t see blue alive and concerned when he just left it cold and void somewhere in oblivion.

She’s looking at him like he’s on the brink of madness. He thinks maybe he is.

Apparently, it’s backlist rec day over here and I’m not sorry. This one is another technical WIP but the chapter works as a standalone (BUT if the author decided to return to it I WOULD NOT BE MAD). It’s a what if Beth and Rio met pre-canon and it works so!!! well!!!! The tension and fascination and build are all *chef’s kiss* plus the writing is gorgeous and lyrical and ugh, I love it.

“We got stuff,” Rio motions with a nod to the backpack Beth hadn’t noticed when they arrived hanging on the back of one of the chairs at the island.

She swallows and turns back to the dishes, realizing Rio apparently means to sleep there , assuming the place isn’t bugged.  Or for some kind of cover story if it is.  She turns and fixes Rio with a narrow-eyed stare, studying his face, the corner of his jaw especially prominent from the angle she’s looking up at him.  He’s methodical about drying each dish and setting it back on the rack, maddeningly ignoring her hard stare, so when he goes to take the next plate from her hands she grips it tightly and gets his attention.

“Hey.”

“What you on about now?” he asks, irritated.

It gets her gut uneasy, how he’s just . . . there, settling in, in ways he never had before, no matter how nonchalantly he would let himself in through her locked doors.  

“This is,” Beth tries, failing, to find words for it, “. . . it’s weird .”

This one takes place post 204 and Rio and Marcus end up spending a long weekend staying with Beth and Emma for reasons (that work, for the record, I’m just not trying to summarize rn) and it’s domestic and cute but honestly my fav part of it is how weirded out Beth is by how easily they slip into sync. The story does an excellent job balancing where they are in canon (uneasy post-sex truce) with a snapshot of what they could be if they got over themselves (HA! as if) and Beth is DEEPLY FREAKED which makes her slow slide into realizing she could maybe sort of kind of oh shit like it/him??? that much more satisfying.

Not So Careful by @bensonstablers

When he doesn’t answer, her eyes go to his but he’s too busy watching the letter opener which is still pressed against the back of his hand. Curiously, Beth runs it up his arm, careful not to press too hard, and smiles a little as he shivers. Pulling her leg up onto the bed, she shuffles closer to him before pressing the tip of the sword to his chest and slowly circling his left nipple with it, being sure not to get too close.

“You ain’t gotta be that careful.”

And when she lifts her eyes to meet his, he’s got that look. The one that always makes a lump form in her throat and for her to fall back into bed with him without a single thought of what they have to do that day. Only thing is, this time they’ve got nothing to do for the rest of the weekend and well, staying in bed the entire time had seemed like an appealing idea so she allows herself to give in a little to that look.

It makes me EXTREMELY SAD that knifeplay ranked so low on the kink survey so I’m gonna need y’all to check out this V V V EXCELLENT example of it and come back and tell me you’re sorry and you voted wrong. I am v reasonable what are you talking about.

"You know what I can't stand?" Rio asks, stepping closer. It's a rhetorical question but he pauses for a second and watches Dean sniff, watches a bead of sweat trickle down his forehead, watches him shift on both his feet as he contemplates making a run for it.

"A guy who don’t realize how good he's got it." Rio continues, looking Dean up and down in disgust. "A guy that will literally fuck up a good thing just to get his dick wet."

"Yeah, well I can't stand a guy who can have anyone he wants but chooses the married woman he's not entitled to.” Dean shoots back. "And I really can't stand the fact that you're always in the room with us even when you aren't there."

And who brings him into the room Dean hmmmmm????? Jk, jk (or am I). In this one Rio catches Dean out on the town with another woman (bc of course he is) and tries to call him out but whoops! gets called out himself. I really love the like, idk, undercurrent of wistful regret in this fic. I love Dean straight up calling Rio out on his feelings (spoilers but there’s an exchange right after this one that made me straight up holler), and, you know, obvs I am here for Rio making Dean feel like an ass. 

Hell Is Other People by makemanybraver

Rio: We're in Hell, Elizabeth! If you don't think you belong here, then repent! Don't fuck everyone in the room in hopes that you get to go out!

Beth: Why do I have to repent?!

Rio: Because you did some fucked up shit in your life, Elizabeth! You keep doing fucked up shit here, too! And you think you don't belong here!

Beth [screaming at the top of her lungs]: Because I don't!

This fic is existentially bonkers and I love it. It’s the kind of experimental format/homage/what have you kind of thing that I L O V E. Based on No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre, Beth, Rio, and Fitzpatrick are stuck together in a room in hell for all eternity. What more do you need, honestly.

Beth turned her face into the pillow, effectively suffocating herself for a moment, but thinking it was a good trade off for the way the cool silk of her pillowcase chilled her skin.

She lifted her head to glance at the still sleeping Dean before replying.

Beth I'm thinking about you too. But this can't happen.

She wanted him to know she wanted him, but she also thought that admitting she was already there would save Rio from trying to convince her. She wanted him, but morals had to win just once in a while.

YES this is technically Beth/Dean while also being Beth/Rio BUT it’s also sort of Rio/Dean and I am HERE FOR THE DIVERSITY OF SHIPPING leave me alone who asked you.

Five Times He Knew What She Was Thinking, and One Time He Didn't by JoeyLee

Aight, so tell ‘em I was hittin’ it. Said deliberately blunt, eyes locked on her face the whole time, just to see those blue eyes widen. She looked so shocked that he almost laughed, so he softened it teasingly just to keep her going. Oh, I’m sorry, sweetheart, tell ‘em we were makin’ love.

Then he just watched her, just watched her face, just fucking fascinated. Her lips were parted and her eyes were big as saucers, and…there it was. Before she could look away flustered, he watched the thought go through her mind. Him and her together.

He wondered what she was picturing or where. Them in the back seat, her bed, a motel?  Her on top or him from behind or his face between her legs?

Whatever it was, the blush started immediately, and he watched it bloom out from her cheeks to her hair. Then she was tearing her eyes away to gulp a little.  But it didn’t knock her down for long before she was looking back. And then, wait, was she actually asking him how to go about telling a fed they were fucking?

Okay this is another technical WIP but works as a standalone. I am absolutely fucking feral for character POV takes of canon scenes and this is a supremely excellent take on Rio POV of some notable scenes from the pilot through 204. Imo it brilliantly captures Rio’s voice and I love it a lot.

Happy Fanfic Writers Appreciation Day!

As a fanfic reader, I am so endlessly grateful for the absolutely talented humans we have in our Bughead fandom, who inspire me and make me laugh and gush and smile and feel all the feels! As a fellow fanfic writer, I’m grateful for our @bugheadfamily community, for all the times we’ve bounced ideas off each other, cheered each other on, and sprinted together! 

One of the things I’m most grateful about in our community is how we encourage each other even when life gets in the way and we can’t update as fast as we’d like! I know that’s been a big thing for me this year, at least, and a lot of you have made me feel so wonderful with your patience and words of encouragement. A perfectly drawn Almost Famous AU! Betty’s an aspiring music journalist, Jughead’s a soulful drummer who writes his band’s music, Veronica and Cheryl are the groupie girls with heart you never know you needed them to be. I’m loving this slow burn!

What We Lost (What We Will Be) by @darknessaroundus (3/11)

This story somehow manages to have the sweetest domestic Bughead with an adorable baby and a compelling murder for Betty and Jughead to solve at the same time. Essentially, JB was killed and it’s lookin’ really suspicious and Bughead are now her baby Junebug’s legal guardians, despite the fact that they don’t meet until after JB’s death. A really intriguing slow burn for ya.

a revelation in the light of day by @iconic-ponytail (4/11)

One of the best things about this story is how incredibly well-drawn the entire universe is - Sheriff Jughead Jones and FBI agent Betty Cooper never met in high school, but now Betty’s back in town to reclaim the family home ten years after leaving Riverdale and Archie digs up Jason Blossom’s body in the backyard the day she returns, leaving Betty and Jughead to investigate while dealing with how quickly they are attracted to one another! Plus, Archie and Veronica’s side plotline is so well-done. One of my favorite investigative duo Bughead dynamics I’ve ever read!

Want some Serpent King Jughead but completely flipped in a way you’ve never seen it before? Jughead, SP, and Toni were exiled and in that time, Betty came to town to live with cousin Cheryl and escape her own Black Hood trauma, befriended all of Jughead’s friends (including Jellybean and the best Kangs I’ve ever read) and bought the Whyte Wyrm, turning it into a bookstore. Enemies to friends to lovers ensues and I am HERE. FOR. IT. 

This Day, A Life by @darknessaroundus (3/5)

This is a coda to darknessaroundus’s equally amazing MFA AU “A Grand Mistake” in which Betty and Jughead - both now career writers - have fostered and then adopted a child. My favorite thing about this story is that, along with Toni, Veronica, and Archie, all the characters are experiencing different forms of found family dynamics.

Ain’t No Sunshine by @sadie-quinn (6/8)

This is my favorite super angsty Southside fic rn. Betty and Jellybean have been best friends forever but it takes until she’s back between college summers living on the Southside with Jellybean and Jughead for Bughead to begin their romance - which they are then forced to keep secret and temporary due to Jughead’s Serpent affiliation. If you’re looking for a very gritty and real take on the Serpents as a gang, this is for you.

In case you were wondering, @literatiruinedme and I are the Official Stoner Chicks™ of this fandom, and “I’ll be the one” is an amazing little fic where Betty moves to Vermont to get away from her mom and starts hanging out with the crew working at the retail store she transfers to. There’s so much sweetness and fluff and friends smoking weed and ragging on each other and being general delights. Stoner!Bughead 4ever.

This is the sequel to “I Can’t Fall in Love Without You,” one of my favorite Bughead fics of all time, and the married Bughead dynamics are precious and the mystery/plot super intriguing. 

among the wildflowers by @heavy-lies-the-crown (10/18)

A super beautiful and well-drawn prairie town AU in which Jughead is a writer in town to write his next novel. This is a masterful slow burn with reveals about the characters as the story progresses that makes the story deeper with each update! And the use of flower imagery in this story is unparalleled in its beauty! 

This is in no way exhaustive, especially since there’s so much sitting on my “to read” list, so in conclusion I just want to say THANK YOU to ALL the fanfic writers for your hard work and sharing your talent with us!!!
