Favorite Thanksgiving Episodes
Hey I love BB holiday episodes so here is another random list of my fav thanksgiving episodes! My top three change order every few hours. Some of my fav episodes of all time are thanksgiving episodes.
From bottom to top.
9: Now we're not cooking with gas
This episode is last on my list because it is just too stressful for me to watch. I watch BB's to unwind and i just want things to work out for the belcher's. Even though the turkey was good in the end. it's just too much for me to handle.
8: Gayle makin' bob sled
I also don't like this episode. I like Gayle for the most part but she was so frustrating this time. As with no. 9 on the list, this episode stresses me out which makes me not like it. I also hate when Mr. Business escapes that's my biggest fear with my cat. Also This episode is not super thanksgivingish ya know. I forgot it was a thanksgiving episode until I looked it up for this list.
7: Diarrhea of a poopy kid
I like this episode but there are some things that keep it toward the bottom of the list. For example I don't love the stories in this episode. I usually enjoy the three story format of BB episodes but these ones were just eh for me. I also don't like how recently the writers have been intensifying the dependent relationship between Gene and Linda. I feel like in earlier episodes, they've shown how close they are but i feel like recently it's been weirder. Idk if i'm explaining this right. I do like the whole premise of the episode and I liked all the cool food Bob cooks this time. It sounds really good. I also like Bob and Gene's dynamic in this episode.
6: I bob your pardon
I really don’t have any cons for this episode I thought it was cute, but I like the others on the list more. Actually this switches places with the no. 5 all the time, but for now I’ll leave it at no.6. I love the premise of this episode. It was very fun. Bob is so cute in the berry bog I love when he gets a win. I also like the return of the two-butted goat.
5: Thanks hoarding
As mentioned before, this episodes switches places on my list a lot, But as of now it's No.5. A few cons is just that Linda is a bit pushy in forcing teddy into something he is uncomfortable to do. It's not like a bad thing in terms of story structure but it is not that enjoyable to watch. I also didn't love the ending song. I love BB musical numbers, end credits, background music, but this wasn't my favorite. Things i do like! bob and his cooking and his enthusiasm for spatchcocking. I also love teddy in episodes and I’m glad he got to spend some time with the Belchers.
4: Indecent thanksgiving proposal
As the first thanksgiving episode it has a special place in my heart. I love Linda’s thanksgiving song, love the premise, the my neighbor totoro reference, Lance. Just an overall fun classic Bob’s episode.
3: Turkey in a can
The last three on my list are basically tied they are so close in rank they switch orders all the time. This is one of my all time favorite BB episodes. Bi Bob that's the main reason i love this. I love the Deli guy interactions! I think it's No.3 rn because i wish we got a full acknowledgement. It's def not subtext but this was in season 4 and we are on season 11. I just want them to say bisexual ya know. anyway i love Gene's song and Bob freaking out over tina growing up is very cute and touching.
2: Dawn of the Peck
Great Thanksgiving vibes. The Donna Summer song is amazing it fits so well and I love Bob's dancing. I love when regular size rudy is in episodes and i love how he is embraced by the Belcher's so cute. Also Bob's dramatic monologue when he sees turkey baster is the best. Just an overall amazing episode! Ok this has nothing to do with it's ranking but one of the reasons i always thought the Pesto's live above their restaurant is this episode. When they drop Andy and Ollie off they go back to the restaurant! I guess maybe Jimmy Pesto's is open but i feel like there are other instances where it seems that they live above their restaurant. oh also this ep has a great end credits scene. Love Donna Summers.
1: The Quirk-ducers
amazing musical number, great thanksgiving vibes, and grandpa potato. the song is so catchy i sing it all the time. I love Tina's erotic friend fiction and i think it's so funny how Louise reads it aloud to the family. I like how tina works through her insecurity with her writing. I also like when Tina has nice moments with J ju even though i prefer zeke. My absolute favorite part about this episode is the reprise of the songs put all together in higher quality at the end of the episode. It's just such a good song! “We’re going to dinner!”
Thanks for reading! If someone reads this let me know if you agree or disagree!

Well, today has been entertaining. I have started a batch of strawberry liqueur, acquired nearly 40 lbs of frosting for Operation: Wedding Cake and finally seen Aquaman. I am also almost done with 이모 sock #1, so all in all I think it has been a productive day. I am celebrating with comment fic.
This was originally written for solarfox, thanks to their comment:
I wonder how Galahad would react to a younger sibling having to be his nurse because both his parents are gone and the next oldest sibling is working.
The answer is: with more grace than I would.
New York, July 1958
The Pukwudgies had invaded.
Galahad squinted at his youngest siblings, trying to make sense of the world. Nothing made sense at the moment, least of all the invasion of the Pukwudgies, but he was an Auror and a Graves and he felt honor bound to try.
“What --” he began, resisting the urge to cough. He succeeded for all of five seconds -- a new record -- and then the jagged coughs burst free and he couldn’t stop. He pitched forward, unable to catch his balance and cough and try to breathe all at the same time in his weakened state, and probably would have landed on his face if someone hadn’t caught him.
When had baby Dag gotten so tall, he wondered.
“Not a baby,” Dag said, reflexive.
Lyo patted Galahad’s cheek. “He’s not. You’re still a disaster, though.”
“Shut up,” said Galahad, pulling away from Dagonet and staggering back down the hall towards his bedroom. “M sick, not a disaster.”
“You dosed yourself with homemade Pepper-up,” Lyo said, merciless. “Which was dumb for multiple reasons.”
“You don’t need to tell me the reasons,” said Galahad.
“Oh, but I’m going to,” said Lyo, who had clearly taken lessons from Ollie and Ellie in the fine art of being mean to her older brothers.
Why were all of Galahad’s sisters so mean, he wondered.
“Because we have to put up with our dumbass brothers,” said Lyo. “Now. Getting back to the reasons you are a dumbass whose homemade Pepper-up didn’t work. One: you are tragically, embarrassingly terrible at Potions.”
“Am not,” said Galahad. He was not tragically, terribly embarrassing at anything, thank you very much, Lyo. He might not have had Uncle Robert or Arthur even Lance’s instincts for Potions, but that was hardly embarrassing.
“Two: you live with a Healer,” said Lyo.
“Debatable,” said Galahad. Aurors and Healers were both shift workers, so while it was nice to live with someone who understood insane scheduling, it also meant he went a long time without seeing his fiancé sometimes.
“Technicalities are for criminals, sophists and lawyers,” Dag sing-songed, quoting Dad.
“You could have gotten Sam to give you proper Pepper-up,” Lyo continued, as if neither of her brothers had spoken. “Or you could have had her treat you. But no. You tried to medicate yourself.”
Galahad wanted to argue that point and couldn’t. He had tried to medicate himself. Although in his defense, he’d been working a lot because everyone else was out with the flu, and Sam had been working a lot because everyone kept coming in with the flu, and he hadn’t really seen her and couldn’t ask her to treat him.
“Yeah, that’s actually point three,” said Lyo. “Working three weeks without a day off was really dumb, Galahad.”
Galahad frowned at her. Lyo was not any kind of Legilimens -- thank Merlin and Morgana and all of Arthur’s knights. She was terrifying enough without the ability to read minds. All of his sisters were terrifying enough without the ability to read minds. He’d never have been able to keep up with them, otherwise.
So why was she arguing with him like she could read his mind?
Both of his youngest siblings stared at him.
Galahad sighed. “I’m saying all of this out loud, aren’t I?”
“How bad is your fever?” Dag asked, reaching out to press the back of his hand to Galahad’s head. “Yeah, you should go lie down now.”
“I was lying down,” Galahad grumbled, shuffling into his bedroom. “And then you invaded.”
“Oh, no,” said Dag. “No, no, no, no, no.”
Galahad blinked at him.
“This is disgusting,” Dag declared, gesturing at Galahad’s bed. “You are not sleeping in this germ-infested pigsty.”
Dag was kind of melodramatic sometimes. Galahad mostly chalked it up to the fact that Dag was sixteen. Also, possibly channeling Papa, who wasn’t as melodramatic but would probably also have things to say about the level of cleanliness in Galahad’s apartment.
It was a little bit pathetic, but Galahad really did want his Papa right now. Papa was soothing, and he made the best soup, and he would have dealt with the invasion of the Pukwudgies firmly and quietly.
Ugh, why did Dad and Papa pick this month to go visit the Scamanders?
“There you go,” Dag said, gesturing to Galahad’s bed. The bed had been made and -- because Galahad’s littlest brother thought he was funny -- also swapped for a fresh set of sheets that had tiny nifflers on them. “Are you gonna fall in and drown if you shower?”
“Just let me sleep, brat,” Galahad growled, and had another coughing fit. He collapsed into his bed and discovered that the ridiculous niffler sheets smelled like lavender and cedar, the way the linens at Graves Manor did.
“Fine,” said Dag. “Sam can always give you a sponge bath or something later. You can play Healer.”
Galahad had another coughing fit, in lieu of addressing the frankly appalling mental imagery that statement evoked. Dag was not old enough for that level of innuendo.
“I’m sixteen!” said Dag. “And you’re still monologuing like a crazy villain. Please shut up.”
“Seriously,” said Lyo, reappearing.
Galahad was too tired to be terrified of where Lyo had been. In his general experience, losing track of his younger siblings did not lead to good things, because they were wily and determined little monsters.
“I don’t want any traumatizing details,” Lyo explained. “About anything, not just your sex life.” She held up a hand to forestall anything Galahad might have said.
Galahad did not actually have anything to say, because he was feeling vaguely traumatized, or maybe vaguely terrorized. It was hard to tell. He was compromised and his brain was fuzzy, so everything was kind of vague right now.
“So you’re going to be a good little Auror and take your medicine and drink your soup and go to bed.”
“And you’ll go home?” Galahad asked. He didn’t have enough energy to deal with any of his siblings right now, even if Dag and Lyo were being more helpful than any of the others would have been.
Also, he didn’t actually want the little brats to get sick. That’d be a fine thing for Papa and Dad to return home to.
“Sure, Galahad,” said Dag, who was clearly lying.
“Then we’ll go home,” agreed Lyo, who was also a lying liar who lied. She gave him a potion that tasted like feet, but she let him wash it down with a bowl of soup that was just as good as Papa’s, so he decided they could get away with lying for now.
Lyo curled up on the foot of his bed while he ate. Dag settled into Sam’s armchair and pulled out his knitting.
“Why,” Galahad said flatly.
Dag had the audacity to roll his eyes at Galahad. “Relax, big brother,” he said.
“You always take care of us,” said Lyo. “It’s our turn to take care of you.”
As soon as Galahad had the energy to argue with them, he was sending a pigeon to Ollie and making her come deal with them.
“Ugh,” he conceded.
“Lyoooooo,” Dag whined fifteen minutes later. At least, Galahad was pretty sure it was fifteen minutes later. It could have been five hours, in his flu-addled state. “I’m bored. Tell me a story.”
Galahad wanted to call bullshit. Dag had been self-entertaining ever since Papa and Aunt Dorothy taught him to knit. As long as he had his needles and some yarn, he was never bored. All of the Graves and Collins children had learned to knit, but Peter and Lyo and Dag were the only ones who’d stuck with it. Galahad mostly approved, because if Dag had his needles he was also never unarmed, thanks to Dad’s tendency of finding ways to hide weapons in plain sight. Every knitting needle Dag owned was a steel-silver alloy with a Pukwudgie-needle core, and could be thrown with deadly accuracy.
Calling bullshit would probably set off another coughing fit, though. And whatever was in the potion Lyo had dosed him with made him sleepy, so it seemed like more effort than it was worth.
Lyo cleared her throat. “A long, long time ago, when wizards lived alongside the No-Maj and neither feared the other, the steadiest of Arthur’s knights was his foster-brother --”
“No,” said Dag.
Galahad frowned at him.
“Fine,” said Lyo. “The most beautiful woman in all the land was called Ygraine.” She paused, in case Dag had some other mysterious objection, but when he said nothing she picked up the thread of the story.
Galahad fell asleep to the first Merlinian legend any of them ever learned, because it was the first one Dad had ever told Papa. When he woke up, the most beautiful woman in all the land was taking his temperature and frowning at him like she thought he was an idiot. But in a nice way, Galahad thought. Like he was her idiot.
“Where are the brats?” Galahad asked.
“Lyo’s asleep on the couch, Dag’s in the study.”
“Oh, good. How are you?”
“Better than you,” Sam said, amused. Sam was his favorite Pukwudgie. She stripped out of her Healer’s robes and into the loose cotton pajamas she wore in the summer. She laughed at the ridiculous sheets and curled up behind Galahad, resting her head on his shoulder.
Galahad thought about protesting, but he didn’t actually mind being the little spoon. He relaxed into the cuddle and went back to sleep.
Maybe the invasion of the Pukwudgies wasn’t all that bad.
Galahad’s opinion on being the little spoon are courtesy of one Detective Jake Peralta, who is absolutely correct:

i need help i'm so tempted to write a fantasy halbarry au with a cute cleric barry and his lantern knight but i'm really insecure about how to write barry's personality and inner monologue pls help ur the Premier Barry Authority and i trust u implicitly
i get a lot of these kinds of msgs (FOR SOME REASON??? IM FLATTERED) and im really shit at responding to all of them so ill try to fit my Thoughts in here
first and foremost, if you are unsure about a character’s personality type or inner thoughts– read comics! seriously the first thing i do before i write anything is binge read as much content as humanly possible (comics, wikis, etc). readcomicsonline.to is a good resource for broke people (usually i read on there first, and then buy a physical copy later if i think its worth it) and that’s how i read most of barry’s comics.
secondly– THIS AU IS SUPER CUTE.. reminds me and @spector’s extensive dragon age au where barry is a circle mage (who is a spirit healer being helped by the spirit of Hope) and hal is a templar who gets infected by the arch dragon Parallax…… sighs wistfully… i still need to write that one day.. i got like 12 pages of small elf barry in my gdoc somewhere.. MAYBE ONE DAY………….. anyways
thirdly– i can’t really tell you what exactly barry will be thinking about, since it’s an AU, but i can tell you.. i guess what he’s like? like….
barry is always thinking of other people before himself. if there’s something wrong with hal, you bet barry will be thinking about how to make hal better before he even considers his own problems. he will go out of his way to accommodate other people and make them feel comfortable and safe at great personal disregard because barry is a Protector first and everything else second. you could say that this stems from him “failing” to protect his mom as a kid but honestly barry has always been this way since way before geoff Edgified his origin story. i’m assuming since barry is a healer in this AU he would be going out of his way to cast little spells n such to make hal feel Good. barry feels good when other people feel good, that’s just how he is. it’s one of his most defining characteristics, to the point of it being one of his flaws.
i guess another one of barry’s traits is that he doesn’t really do mean-spirited humor. he’ll poke fun at people, sure, but he isn’t like, super sarcastic in a mean way. compare his brand of humor to someone, say.. ollie? they’re kinda opposites. ollie will be like ‘u huge piece of shit haha’ but barry will be like ‘omg ur ridiculous’ kinda thing. idk if that made sense? but there it is. he’s not a mean boy. he’s kind always.. UNLESS.. the people he cares abt are being threatened and then he will get Angry.
barry is also self-conscious for a lot of reasons, mostly stemming from his sudden transformation into a Hunk from a Cutie Patootie & his isolationist childhood. he still sees himself as a sort of scrawny nerd and forgets sometimes that he’s Swol. people hitting on him? goes right over his fuckin head. he has no idea when people are flirting at him and when he does realise it (after it’s made painfully obvious) he will blush and stutter and generally have no idea what the fuck To Do. likewise when someone actually wants to talk to him he’ll be a little surprised? because he’s so used to people avoiding him. people wanting to be around him is something that a constant pleasant surprise to him, even though he yearns for human contact constantly
he’s also pretty reserved and quiet, always thinks things out thoroughly before speaking. this stems from his isolated childhood where any wrong thing said would be held against him and used as bullying fodder. he was avoided by most kids and left to his own devices, so he developed as a pretty introverted dude. i don’t think by nature? just sort of out of necessity. i think the right person (cough… hal…) could bring out his extroverted side and really get him talkin n laughing a lot but he just sort of naturally reverts to isolation mode because that’s just how he grew up. the fact that he takes a lot of time before saying anything (something expedited by his speed) gives him a reputation as a very thoughtful person, which i think is indisputably accurate. your birthday coming up? you fuckin bet barry is THERE, 800 balloons and a home-made cake in hand.
i guess maybe the last major thing is that barry loves giving & receiving affection. it’s something that he had a lot of as a kid but throughout most of his adolescent years was essentially deprived of in all forms. he’s sorta desperate for any sort of affectionate contact and even tiny little touches, like an arm thrown around his shoulders, someone squeezing his arm or a pat on the back are SO important to him. he cherishes every little touch, which is good because hal is a VERY touchy dude. barry will often just be Struck by how warm a person’s hand is or how nice it is to have someone to lean against or just.. very small things that a lot of people take for granted, but barry had to live without for years and years
i guess that about sums it up. let me know if you have any other questions

Must Reads Part 4
Sorry for the late posting. This week has been fairly crazy for me. And I’ve been addicted to Horizon Zero Dawn lately. This week contains the everyday life of a super girl, music that can summon monsters, cloning, toys that come alive, and much more.
--A Song for Quiet (Persons No Grata #2) by Cassandra Khaw (8/29/17) Deacon James, a rambling bluesman with a saxophone that now refuses to call up his audiences. It summons monstrosities from across different dimensions. According to a stranger named John Persons, Deacon has a seed in his head that could destroy the world if it grows. The music in Deacon’s head is growing stronger and he won’t be able to hold it back for much longer. This is actually the second book in this series but as far as I can tell you do not need to read the first book before reading this one. The first book; Hammers on Bone, follows John Persons which we’ll get into more a bit further down the list. He will make an appearance in this book but I am not sure how much of a role he’ll play. What made this one a must read for me was the description makes it sound really good and I like reading books where music is some form of magic.
--The Adventures of Super Girl by Faith Erin Hicks (6/27/17) “What if you can leap tall buildings and defeat alien monsters with your bare hands, but you buy your capes at secondhand stores and have a weakness for kittens?” The everyday tales of a super girl as she saves people, as she updates her family on how she is doing, and as she tries to keep a part-time job but forgets to remove her mask before work. With an arch-nemesis who’s only superpower is letting our hero know she is doing the superhero thing wrong. This particular version of this graphic novel is a expanded edition. It was originally printed in 2013 but has been reprinted a few times since. This edition will include two new stories and new art. I have never read it before but I really wanna give it a try.
--The Alchemist of Loom (Loom Saga #1) by Elise Kova A society oppressed by the Dragon King when the Five Guild’s resistance fell. Ari lost everything when the Dragon King took over. Now she uses her gift for clockwork machinery to oppose the Dragon oppressors to the highest bidders of the underground organ market. Dragon Cvareh would prefer to see his sister take the throne from the Dragon King. To overthrow the King he seeks aid from the Alchemist Guild and Ari will be the one to take him there. For a price. A wish of her greatest desire. Particularly drawn to this title because dragons. Not sure yet if they are people just called dragons or if they can turn into them. And it sounds a little steampunk. I’m curious as to what kind of clockwork machinery Ari can do.
--Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire Children always disappear. They slip through shadows under the bed, fall down rabbit holes, and into old wells into magical lands. At least until the magical land no longer needs you. Nancy disappeared once. And now she is back at Eleanor West’s Home for Wayward Children. Every child there longs to find a way back into their fantasy world. But with Nancy’s return things start to change. There’s more darkness than before and it is up to Nancy and her friends to find out is going on and to stop it. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of what happens to the hero after the battle is over. When the world no longer needs saving. It has become a trend lately among anime, manga, graphic novels, and books lately. But it remains an interesting idea to pursue. I haven’t read very many books that follow this idea but I have found that it feels a little lacking in some areas. I get the feeling that I’ve missed something along the way. Like jumping into the middle of a long running series. But this children’s (?) novel sounds like it will do a better job since there is a new problem to handle after the fact.
--The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth #1) by N.K. Jemisin “This is the way the worlds ends...for the last time. A season of endings has begun. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world’s sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no return.” It was the description. Pure and simple. I’m really intrigued and would like to see what happens.
--Hammers on Bone (Persons Non Grata #1) by Cassandra Khaw Private investigator John Persons is a being ancient and magical being. He has been hired by a ten-year-old boy to murder the boys stepdad. The stepdad in question is an abusive and abominable monster. No problem for a monster killer like Persons. Except it isn’t just social evils the stepdad is carrying. He hosts an alien presence and is spreading it everywhere he goes. Persons has to stop him without releasing his own horrifying potential. I heard about the sequel (A Song for Quiet) before I heard about this one. I do like the sound of this one but I think I am more excited for the second book.
--The Management Style of the Supreme Being by Tom Holt (6/20/17) The Supreme Being and his son decide that they no longer wish to be supreme. So they decide to sell. Our new owners; the Venturi Brothers, have a few ideas how the world should really run. They don’t care for Good and Evil and decide to rid the world of right and wrong. But one of the old gods didn’t want to move out and he needs to know if you’ve been naughty or nice. I was first drawn to the title and I like the idea behind it. That our universe is more or less run like a company and can be sold. Not really sure how Santa will play into or why. Especially considering that this comes out in June. Unless this is for the paperback edition. Which I forgot to check when I looked this book up. But it still sounds good.
--Mechanica (Mechanica #1) by Betsy Cornwell Nicolette’s stepsisters have nicknamed her ‘Mechanica’. But a name chosen to insult her, fits Nicolette quite well. Her mother was an inventor until she passed away. One day Nicolette finds a secret workshop in her house and starts to imagine that she might be able to build herself a better life with the help of a mechanical menagerie and a tiny metal horse. The upcoming royal ball may just be the place to make her escape. She may even find her prince there but what if she doesn’t want a fairy tale happy ending after all? A retelling of Cinderella. What sold me here was that Nicolette might not have a traditional fairy tale ending. That you don’t always need a prince to make it happen. Whether or not that will be the case, we’ll just have to wait and see.
--More of Me by Kathryn Evans To the world Teva appears to be a normal teenage. But she holds a secret. Because of a genetic abnormality, Teva unwillingly clones herself every year on her birthday. The former Teva is then stuck at home, forced to give up her life. Forced to lose friends and boyfriends. And each year home becomes more and more like a battleground. Soon this Teva will be forced to give up her life as well. Desperate to hang on to her life, Teva starts to find out more about her past in order to set herself free. What really drew me to this book is each time I read the description I am reminded of Doctor Who. Of the line, “I can still die. If I’m killed before regeneration, then I’m dead. Even then, if I change, it feels like dying. Everything I am dies. Some new man goes sauntering away...and I’m dead.” Except for in More of Me, Teva gets to watch as a new; slightly older, version of herself takes over.
--Ollie’s Odyssey by William Joyce To become a child’s favorite is the highest honor a toy can achieve. Billy’s favorite is a bear with rabbit ears named Ollie who was made by Billy’s mother. But not all is happy within the world of toys. Zozo, a toy clown who was never chosen by a child seeks to capture all the favorite toys until they are forgotten by their children. Ollie is taken by Zozo when he was accidentally left under a table by Billy. It is up to Billy to sneak into Zozo’s lair to rescue Ollie and all the other favorites. I first picked this up because I thought it was a children’s graphic novel; it is not. But the story sounded really good so I bought it. I haven’t read it yet.
--The Refrigerator Monologues by Catherynne M. Valente Six interconnected stories about female superheroes, wives of superhero’s, and girlfriends of superhero’s. How they have been abused, killed, brainwashed, and generally used to progress a male superheroes story.
--Renegades by Marissa Meyer (11/7/17) The Renegades are a group of super powered prodigies who helped establish peach and order to a crumbled society. They are a symbol of hope and justice. Except to those that they overthrew. Nova hates the Renegades and wants vengeance for what they’ve done. I really enjoyed Marissa Meyer’s Cinder Chronicles and am interested in trying out something new by her.
--The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. by Neal Stephenson A linguistic helps translate some mysterious documents for a shadowy government agent. The documents provide clues that magic once existed on Earth but the scientific revolution and Age of Enlightenment weakened it; if not wiped it out completely. Now they will try to bring it back into the modern world. When I first read the description I immediately thought of Arrival (which is a really good movie). I’m curious to read just how scientific advancement affect the flow of magic and how they might be able to be used in tandem together.
--Strange Attractors by Charles Soule and illustrated by Greg Scott (6/20/17) Dr. Spencer Drownfield claims to have saved New York City from itself in 1978. Ever since he has been tinkering with the people of New York to keep the city afloat. A young mathematician is chosen as his successor. Is there truth to Dr. Spencer’s claims about how the Butterfly Affect and his complexity math applies to the city’s patterns. Or is it simply the raving of a broken man as he tries to make sense of the world around him. I like the idea of a person secretly ‘tinkering’ with people in order to save his city. And at first I thought it would be done on a real power but now I am not so sure. It may end up being more on a reflection of how we interact with the world and try to understand our place in it. Either way, the story sounds good.
--Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein “Valentine Michael Smith is a human being raised on Mars, newly returned to Earth. Among his people for the first time, he struggles to understand the social morals and prejudices of human nature that are so alien to him, while teaching them his own fundamental beliefs in grokking, watersharing, and love. I’m not sure on the setup here. If it’s a human who grew up on a Mars inhabited by Martians or if he grew up on a Mars populated by humans. My guess is going to go more toward the first option. I really like the idea of this kind of culture crash.
--That Inevitable Victorian Thing by E.K. Johnston (10/3/17) Set in a world where the United States never existed. Victoria-Margaret is the crown princess and direct descendant of Victoria I. Margaret will soon be married due to an genetically arranged matchmaking due to imperial law. Before her marriage, she will have one summer to spend incognito in the far reaches of her empire. There she will meet Helena Marcus, daughter of the empire’s greatest placement geneticists. And August Callaghan, the heir of a powerful shipping firm currently being attacked by American pirates. Together they share an usually bond and will find a way to change the world and get what they want.
--The Waking Land by Callie Bates (6/27/17) Lady Elanna Valtai is fiercely devoted to her King who raised her like a daughter. But when he mysteriously dies, Elanna is accused of murdering him and must flee to her homeland full of magical legends. And to her birth father who was branded a traitor. Now she must confront the powers that have stirred within her and seem to grow as she connects to the natural world. Now Elanna must stop the threat that has chased her to her homeland and rebel against the kingdom she once called home. It reminds me of Uprooted by Naomi Novik and I really enjoyed that book.

13 Reasons Why
(writing this again because the first draft magically disappeared when I went to hang the laundry)
oooo bibi let’s get started.
I read this book back in 2012 and I made a gripping review of it *eye roll* which is here (in case you wanted to read it) : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/571951026?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1
Ever since I read it I’ve been looking forward to the series. Every year I would search for news about it and end up watching fan-made trailers and wondering if Selena Gomez would still be cast as Hannah (which at the time I thought was bullshit because SHE IS NO HANNAH SHE COULD NEVER BE THE PERFECT HANNAH--) woah. okay chill.
.
.
.
SO NOW! This is a comprehensive review and/or breakdown of both the book and the show. (jk i’m not a critic. these are just thoughts)
I appreciated the show (very much) and I loved that her parents are a lot more involved here. In the books, they were there for a couple of sentences and they were gone. Strange. Her parents loved her so much. She could talk to them so if they were completely ignorant of her (the impression I got from the book) then I could see why she killed herself but from the show’s viewpoint, I’m really confused. I think there is a logic behind it that although she was loved, she still felt like she was a problem. idk. NOTE: I just realised this but in the book she says if she can trust the 12 of them to keep a secret and not not let her parents find out what happened. But show Tony still gave it to them. lols
Tony started off really shady in the show but he settled down a few episodes in and I liked his character a lot. I’m glad he’s as involved here as he was the book. He had a bigger role and I loved that fact where he doesn’t fit into everybody’s stories but trustworthy enough which made him the perfect person to give the second set to.
The places were pretty accurate in my head. Except for EISENHOWER PARK. WHEN THE BOOK SAYS SAYS ROCKET SHIP THERE BETTER BE A BLOODY ROCKET SHIP NOT SOME CHEAP ASS SLIDE. oooooooo.
calm down gurl.
Moving on, I loved the character development in the show. It showcased their personality and who they are as a person better. I mean I understand you can’t a whole background check on each person soo...
There were a few characters that I think they cast perfectly (Clay, Tony, Justin, Jessica, Alex, Tyler, Jenny/Sheri whatever her name should be and Bryce). Okay so Hannah’s was perfect, she is the perfect Hannah but in the book I thought she would be blonde and not like Katherine’s features but I really like her portrayal so yup.
I never imagined myself sympathising for Alex and Justin. Knowing how guilty Alex was and how horrible Justin’s story was, I just couldn’t help it. In the book, I had no time to feel sorry for them because they were basically assholes who didn’t care what they did. Now I feel horrible for what Alex did to himself. I knew it was coming though. He alluded to it and I knew it was coming.
They did Jessica justice. By far, how I imagined her in the book. Thumbs up. She did great. No complaints. Just praise.
They made Tyler extra creepy in the show. Which is great haha. I thought that his room would be in the second floor and that Hannah was up in a tree instead or directly in front of the house. wat. Also, what was that ending for Tyler. Watchoo up to boii?
Courtney. I hated her in the books. Hated her in the show too. I know a lot of Courtney Crimsen’s. Those girls that were nice because they had that reputation but were actually bitches. mmmmm. yup. i see you. *snaps fingers in z* but in the show, they made her even worse by making her defend a rapist just because she was afraid that people would know she’s gay?! Honestly, it’s 2017. We’re more open to it these days.
I don’t really have anything to say about Marcus, he’s horrible anyway. He wasn’t that important to me as a character.
A lot of Zach was the same as the book which is cool. I didn’t imagine him to be Asian (or that he was Brett in K.C. Undercover *i don’t watch the show, i just like him shipped with zendaya*). I feel like he was pretty legit in his reasons. He comforted Hannah when Marcus was shit, he comforted her, he was NICE in approaching her but she was kind of a bitch to him. Ironic how she was like “Get over it” but she went ahead and didn’t get over anything and killed herself in the process. Book Zach, I didn’t agree with his reasons but show Zach, I could see why. This wasn’t Zach’s fault Hannah.
I like Hannah’s poem in the book more than the show’s one. Soul Alone was better, in my opinion. Ryan was okay. He did match up with the book quite well tbh. No probs here.
In the book, I didn’t really imagine Clay and Hannah to be as close as they were in the show. I think they were friendly but not like friends-friends. Clay obvs had a crush on her but I don’t think he was too involved in Hannah’s life (from the book) to be that super significant. I’m happy they made them closer in the show but I’m also a bit doubtful of it because it was so clear that they were friends and idk why Hannah still did it. She had a fricking nickname for him! How the hell were they not friends enough to not kill yourself for? Clay was too perfect of a character in the book. I’m happy they made him flawed in the show. And his ending with Skye is something that took me a while to understand but now that I though about it, it made sense. He couldn’t save Hannah so he’s save Skye instead. Breaks my heart every time.
Why did they change Jenny to Sheri. It makes no sense to me. Why not leave it as it is? It was the same story. Just different names. I don’t get it.
In between these two is a little note. JEFF. LET US GRIEVE FOR JEFF. HE WAS THE PUREST SOUL IN THE SHOW. WHY? Y U DO DIS? LIFE? </3
Bryce was just as disgusting as I imagined him to be. He looks like someone I would spit on. He was so spot on from the book to the show. I wish they left “Just relax” somewhere. I think in the book it was there to recognise him a lot clearly but in the show you already saw his face so maybe that’s why. Yeah. He was the ultimate fuckboy. It’s was disgusting how he raped Hannah and Jessica. I was so angry. What the fuck.
So, I was talking to my brother about this and I realised that Hannah in the show is more impulsive than book Hannah who was reflective-ish. During Bryce’s tape, she thought of going into that hot tub with him and Courtney (stupid of her to still go for it) and why she shouldn’t before she went in but show Hannah just went for it. Yup. When she was deciding how to kill herself, she thought of the least brutal way possible. Pills. In the show they fucking make her slit her wrists. Makes for good TV but holy fuck, I was not ready for that scene. I legit bawled into tears (even more when her parents came in).
MR. PORTER. Probs the worst counsellor ever. You let her walk away after she deliberately told you that she should get on with her life. You knew what she was talking about. You knew and you didn’t say anything.........................................
Apart from the monologue she did, her last words (on the tapes) will always be my favourite part of the book. She says “A lot of you cared. Just not enough. And that is what I needed to find out. And I did. And I’m sorry”.
I think they stayed as close to the book as they possibly could in the span of the 13 hour-long episodes which I applaud them for.
What annoys me is that there are really good lines and quotes from the book that I just envisioned them saying but this is more a personal issue than the shows fault. harhar.
Olly olly oxen free was fricking cool. the fuck was FML?! “-.-

In conclusion...
This book just means so much to me.
I just empathised with Hannah and somehow whatever was was going on in her head, during the darkest points in her life, I thought of too.
And after I read it, I didn’t want to do “it” anymore.
I’m doing a lot better now. I’m a lot older and although I’m not as emotionally stable as I hoped I would be, I’m comforted to know that I’m not hurting myself as badly as before and I’ll be around for quite a while.
I think 13 Reasons Why saved me :) Hopefully, it saved others too..
