Claws-trophobia
So I had this request to have chat, nathaniel and marinette all trapped in an enclosed space, for a long time and finally had a brilliant idea for it (with the help of @squirrellygirlart ) Hope you all enjoy it :) Thanks for the request anon!!
Also @squirrellygirlart did some artwork to go with the piece!!! Check it out HERE!!!!! - it’s pretty amazing!!!
Marinette’s class was helping out at Chloe’s hotel for the day. It was something their class had done once a year every year for as long as Marinette could remember. It was supposed to teach them something about responsibility and the job market and of course Marinette always ended up with the worst jobs on account of Chloe’s hatred for her and today was no different. Marinette was stuck with Gofer duty while Adrien was put at the front desk along with Chloe. Marinette was more than just a little disappointed by it. It happened every year of course but Marinette was beginning to feel that her crush on Adrien was more than a little hopeless. Needless to say Marinette was feeling more than a little discouraged that day. Of course the rage filled akuma that was tearing through the hotel didn’t do much to help improve Marinette’s mood. Marinette ran down the hallway akuma following close behind fiery hair sticking on end as she screamed in fury. A small fiery blast landed near Marinette’s foot. She yelped as she pushed herself to run faster.
“Marinette!” Marinette was quickly grabbed around the waist and yanked into another hallway as a fiery blast dissolved where she had previously been standing. Marinette looked up to see glowing green eyes staring back at her. She rested her hands on his shoulders their chests brushing against one another as they both tried to catch their breath.
“Chat Noir,” Marinette greeted breathlessly. Chat smirked at her.
“Afternoon Princess, are you alright?” Chat asked, eyes giving her a once over. Marinette nodded.
“I think so,” Marinette assured.
“Good, come on, we need to get you to safety,” Chat Noir released her waist instead taking her hand in his and pulling her along behind him. Marinette let him lead her deciding to transform once he left her to take care of the akuma. Chat rounded a corner only for them to find themselves face to face with the fiery beast. Marinette and Chat Noir skidded to a stop. Chat and Marinette both squeaked as the akuma smiled wickedly down at them fire brewing in her open hand.
“Make a run for it?” Marinette asked cautiously. Chat Noir’s head made a jerky nod. The akuma reeled her arm back fiery blast aimed their way.
“Time to go!” Chat shouted turning on his heel and tore down the hall, Marinette still in hand. Chat led them towards an open elevator at the end of the hall. The doors slowly began to close. Chat released Marinette’s hand diving inside the doorway and keeping the doors open for Marinette. Marinette skidded to a stop just before the elevators glancing back as she heard a door open. Nathaniel stepped into the hallway looking down at his sketch book oblivious to the raging akuma headed straight towards them.
“Marinette come on!” Chat called desperately towards her, the elevator towards dinging angrily at him as he pushed them open once again. Marinette looked apologetically towards Chat before running down the hall for Nath. “Marinette!” Chat shouted in irritation.
“Nathaniel!” Marinette shouted as she ran towards him. The boy jumped at the sound of her voice, looking up at her startled. Marinette wasted no time she grabbed his hand and began dragging a resistant Nathaniel down the hall with her.
“Marinette?!” Nathaniel squeaked.
“Akuma… Need to go,” Marinette panted as she pulled him along with her. The akuma cried out in rage sounding much closer than before. A fiery blast licked Nathaniel’s heels causing him to pick up speed. The pair ran towards the elevator the akuma rapidly gaining behind them. They were only a few feet away. Chat Noir stepped out of the way. Marinette dove for the doors taking Nath down with her the two crashing in through the elevator doors. The akuma barreled down the hall towards the open doors. Eyes blown wide Chat Noir began furiously hitting the ‘close doors’ button looking from the button to the fast approaching akuma. The akuma began to scream only a few feet from the doors. Perspiration dotted Chat Noir’s forehead. The last thing Marinette saw of the outside world was the akuma’s fiery hair before the doors finally slipped closed and the Elevator began to descend. Chat Noir’s shoulders slumped his body instantly relaxing, chest rising and falling rapidly as he tried to catch his breath. He looked to Marinette only for his shoulders to tense once more. Nathaniel was frozen in place on top of Marinette cheeks burning red. Marinette struggled to breathe underneath Nathaniel’s weight, face flushed from all the running. Something about their position made Chat Noir very uneasy.
“You okay?” Marinette breathed. Nathaniel managed a nod his nose brushing against hers. Chat Noir wrenched Nath up onto his feet by the back of his jacket effectively separating him from Marinette’s body. Chat glared at the boy before releasing his hold on him. Marinette sat up breathing heavy.
“What were you thinking? That akuma could have burned you to a crisp!” Chat scolded as he leaned forward fists on his hips. Marinette’s lips pulled into a pout as she glowered at him.
“I was thinking that if I didn’t help, Nathaniel would have been burnt to a crisp!” Marinette shot back. Chat shook his head.
“It’s not your job to worry about that Marinette,” Chat sighed in frustration, pinching the bridge of his nose. Marinette stood now hands in fists at her side.
“Well then who-“ Marinette was cut off by a loud screeching sound. The elevator began to rattle Marinette stumbled into Nath who's quickly caught her, hand coming out to catch her elbow the other lightly supporting her back. A low growl emanated in the back of Chat’s throat his tail flicking agitatedly around his ankles. Something about Nathaniel was bothering Chat but he couldn’t quite tell what it was. Marinette looked up at Nathaniel her cheeks slightly pink. Chat’s face pulled into a snarl. Nathaniel smiled down at her blushing furiously. Chat clenched and unclenched his hands. Nath slowly steadied Marinette upright onto her feet his hands releasing her but still hovering in place. Chat’s ears stood on end as he glared at the red headed child.
“You okay?” Nath asked.
“Yeah, Thanks for catching me,” Marinette said adoringly.
“No prob- AHHH!” Nathaniel was cut off when Chat took one clawed hand and quickly pushed him over. Nathaniel lay sprawled on the floor rubbing his head. A smile pulled at Chat’s lips.
“Chat what the hell!?” Marinette yelled. Chat’s smile quickly dropped as he folded his arms over his chest.
“It’s a cat thing, you wouldn’t understand,” Chat sniffed. The lights in the elevator dimmed as the elevator froze in place.
“Are we stuck?” Marinette asked, eyebrows knitting together. Chat walked over to the elevator doors grunting as he pulled them open enough to stick his head out. Chat let the doors fall back closed again.
“Yeah we’re definitely stuck in between floors,” Chat sighed.
“We’re stopped?! We -we can’t be- stopped. I- I can’t— please tell me you- you- you’re joking,” Nathaniel stuttered, breathing erratic.
“Believe me the last thing I want is to be trapped in an elevator with you,” Chat snipped. Marinette glared at Chat before crouching down next to Nate.
“What’s wrong Nath?” Marinette asked eyebrows pulling together in concern for her friend. Nathaniel shook his head squeezing his eyes shut. He breath hitched as he began to hyperventilate.
“I- I’m claus- trophobic,” Nate explained in-between breaths. Marinette nodded in understanding placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“It’s going to be okay Nathaniel, we’re going to get out of here I promise,” Marinette assured him rubbing soothing circles along his back. Nath nodded still breathing heavy but looking less panicked as he looked into Marinette’s eyes. Chat smiled lightly at Marinette- she was so kind to others. Nathan’s cheeks began to turn the same red as his hair. Chat’s smile fell a growl began to build in the back of his throat. What was wrong with him today?
“How do you know that?” Panic began to fill the red head voice once more. “We could be in here for days!?” Nathaniel lamented.
“We’ll get out before then. In the meantime why don’t we focus on something else. Is this your sketchbook?” Marinette asked pulling his sketchbook off the floor. “Can I take a look at it?” Nate nodded and Marinette began flipping through the pages.
“Wow Nath this is amazing! Is that me?” Marinette asked pointing to a picture in the book. Nath nodded sheepishly. “It’s really beautiful Nathaniel. How did you get the dress to flow like this?” She asked referring back to the drawing. Chat grit his teeth together, sirens blaring in his head. Now this guys was drawing her?! How often was he ogling Marinette?!
“Well I used this fine tipped pen, it has better flow control than a lot of the standard ones so you can manipulate the-“ Nathaniel was talking excitedly now with Marinette who looked ridiculously interested in what he had to say. Chat’s eyes fixated on the fact that her hand was still touching his shoulder Adrien looked towards the metal doors with a mischievous smile. He raked his claws over the door creating the world’s worst screeching noise. Marinette and Nath both jumped, her hand removing itself from his shoulder.
“Chat what are you doing?” Marinette asked indignantly, cheeks puffed.
“Sharpening my claws,” Chat examined one clawed hand, “ just in case.” Chat looked over at Nathaniel with a wicked smile. He swallowed hard eyes wide as he regarded Chat’s claws. Marinette shook her head as she looked back towards Nathaniel.
“Are you okay Nate you look a little pale,” Marinette spoke soothingly as her hands went to rest on Nathaniel’s arm. Chat grimaced sauntering over to the two of them as he tried desperately to make himself look indifferent.
“It’s just um,” Nath’s eyes flicked towards Chat Noir and back at Mari, “the elevator.” Suddenly the Elevator began rattling once more a loud groaning noise emanating from beyond it’s walls. Chat’s body tensed. He looked to see if Marinette was alright only for his heart to jump in his throat. Nathaniel was clinging to Marinette’s arm as she stroked his hair soothingly. Oh hell no! Chat thought to himself. Fury burned behind his eyes. He dropped down and quickly latched himself completely around Marinette. One leg over her lap arms wrapped possessively around her.
“Chat? What are you doing?” Marinette asked uncertain.
“He started it,” Chat quipped.
“He’s scared!” Marinette clarified.
“It’s a cat thing, you wouldn’t understand,” Chat grumbled.
“WHAT KIND OF CAT ARE YOU?!” Nathaniel asked incredulously before shrinking back in fear as Chat glared at him.
“The affectionate kind!” Chat purred pressing himself closer to Marinette.
“Chat get off of me,” Marinette complained. At this point Chat Noir was practically sitting in her lap. Instead of removing himself like he knew he should, however, Chat went completely limp on top of her. With the dead weight Marinette was unable to remove the heavy cat boy.
“Seriously Chat you are being ridiculous!” Marinette hissed.
“I can’t help it!” Chat said smugly into her neck his lips just brushing the skin there.
“Fine!” Marinette resigned. A purr rolled through Chat’s chest as he curled happily around Marinette’s small frame.
“Is he purring?” Nathaniel asked in horror.
“Shut up Nathaniel!” Chat snapped, the purr warping his voice. Marinette giggled. The sound only encouraging Chat further. He nuzzled her neck softly earning a small squeak from Marinette. Heat coated Marinette’s face. She looked to Nathaniel who had his eyes squeezed shut and his head between his knees. She needed to get them out of here before Nathaniel lost his mind or Chat lost his. Both of them seemed on the edge of sanity at the moment.
“Okay both of you. Off. Now!” Marinette commanded. “I have an idea.” The boys looked at each other waiting for the other to release Marinette first. Marinette groaned in irritation before shoving both the boys away from her and pulling herself to her feet. Chat stood to follow her. Nathaniel looked up at rolling forward onto his toes as if to stand. Chat Noir placed a boot on his back and shoved him face first into the ground. Nathaniel cried out as his face his the ground. Marinette spun eyes wide as she crouched down to check on Nath.
“I’m okay,” Nathaniel muttered into the floor throwing her a feeble thumbs up to reassure her. Marinette glared over at Chat Noir who was stubbornly crossing his arms over his chest and avoiding her accusing gaze. Marinette finally stood hands in fists a her sides as she approached the maintenance box of the elevator.
To be perfectly honest Marinette had no idea what she was doing but anything she could do to try and get them out of that elevator was well worth the risk. She began messing with the some of the wires. The elevator immediately jolted dropping them down a few feet. Nathaniel screamed as he leapt into Chat Noir’s arms who promptly dropped him back onto the floor with a loud thud. Nathaniel glared up at him as Chat flashed a smug smirk. Marinette fell backwards on hands and knees stomach doing flips as the elevator steadied itself with a groan. Okay, Marinette thought, wires bad. Let’s try something else. Marinette sat back up and began playing with the switches within the console. In doing so she was able to bring up the brightness of the lights just a bit more and turn off the horrid elevator music. Another flick of a switch turned the sprinklers on. Chat Noir yelped in surprise jumping up into Nathaniel’s arms. Nathaniel grimaced as he released his hold on Chat Noir in an attempt to drop him. Chat’s claws dug into Nathaniel as he held tightly to the red head hissing at the oncoming water.
“AHHHHH - ereahghgh ahhh!!!!” Nathaniel screamed as the claws dug into his skin. He began to run in circles around the elevator in an attempt to loosen Chat’s hold on him. Marinette stumbled over to separate the two boys. Wrapping her arms around Chat’s middle she was able to coax Chat into loosening his grip on Nathaniel.
“Come on kitty, I’ve got you. It’s just a little water,” She cooed. With his free hands Nathaniel pried Chat’s claws from his shoulders. With the added weight Marinette fell back against the floor with Chat Noir on top of her.
“Are you okay Marinette?” Nathaniel asked hesitantly. Chat Noir hissed at him turning over on top of Marinette and burying his face into the crook of her neck. Marinette sighed. How on earth did she end up in this situation. Struggling under Chat’s weight Marinette managed to sit up. Chat still wrapped firmly around her Marinette peeling her jacket off and placed it over Chat Noir’s head. Chat’s ears twitch as they realized rain was no longer hitting them. Green eyes gazed sweetly up at Marinette. She smiled down at him before gently pulling him off of her and coming to stand.
“I’m going to try to turn off the water,” Marinette called over as she walked back towards the box. She flicked the switch she had hit previously, back. The water slowly fading into a drip. Marinette shied with relief before turning back to the two boys.
“Are you both okay?” Marinette asked.running a hand through her sopping wet hair. Neither of the boys responded. Chat was clutching her coat to his head eyes wide and mouth hanging slightly open. Nathaniel’s face was almost as red as his hair his eyes boring the same wide intensity as Chat’s. “What are you two…?” Finally notching where their gaze was Marinette’s cheeks pinked whether in embarrassment or rage she wasn’t quite sure yet. Marinette lifted her hand to slap Nathaniel across the cheek. His jaw dropped in astonishment as he sheepishly averted his eyes. Chat snickered. Marinette turned on him, a furious look in her eyes. Reeling her fist back Marinette landed a right hook along Chat’s cheek bone. The boy stumbled back holding his face.
“You perverts!” Marinette huffed because the two boys had been staring at Marinette’s chest on full display through her wet white shirt. She had chosen the wrong day to not wear a bra. Marinette crossed her arms over her chest as the boys whimpered each holding their face. Nathaniel refused to meet her gaze again. Chat sat on the floor grumbling as he stared at the elevator door as if willing them to open. The tense silence between them was palpable.
“I was looking for art purposes… I just notice anatomy,” Nathaniel tried to explain still not meeting her eyes. Chat scoffed.
“Yeah and I was just admiring her shirt,” Chat said sarcastically rolling his eyes.
“Both of you shut up,” Marinette growled throwing her fisted hands down to her sides as she glared at the both of them. Chat’s eyes flicked over to her chest before flinching away under her glare and averting his eyes somewhere else cheeks pink. Marinette quickly folded her hands back over her chest, face burning. Marinette glared at the control box certain she would be crying if she hadn’t been so angry at the both of them.
Marinette shoulders tensed as damp fabric was placed around her shoulders. Marinette glanced back to see Chat returning her jacket to her. Marinette knit her brows together unsure of what to make of the gesture. Water dripped from the sparklers still, several drops landing themselves on Chat’s ears causing him to recoil back with a pained face. Marinette frowned. The gesture was sweet. Marinette stuck her arms through her jacket and quickly wrapped it around herself as Chat cowered in the corner covering his ears with his arms. Marinette sighed. She couldn’t really stay angry at him when he was doing that. Marinette sank to the floor avoiding both boy’s eyes as she sat and waited to be rescued. her eyes drifted up to the ceiling and then Marinette had an idea.
“Chat Noir, give me your staff!” Marinette commanded. Chat looked up curiously at her.
“What for?” He asked with a slight tremor in his voice. Did he think she was going to beat him with it?
“Because there is an emergency hatch we can use to get out.” Marinette pointed to the ceiling. Chat’s face split into a grin as he hopped to his feet.
“I’m at your service Princess,” Chat purred as he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her into him. Before she could protest Chat extended his baton bracing his shoulder against the hatch until they made it out of the elevator. Chat gently set Marinette down on the elevator’s roof. Marinette glanced back down at Nathaniel.
“What about Nathaniel?” Marinette asked looking skeptically at Chat. He sighed over dramatically.
“Do we have to save him?” Chat begrudged. Marinette raised a warning eyebrow at him.
Chat grumbled something before hopping back into the elevator hatch and pulling the redhead out by the scruff of his neck. Chat dropped the boy onto the roof before he could find his footing letting him fall onto his bottom once more. Chat smirked to himself before approaching the elevator doors. The elevator had almost lined up to the floor. meaning they would have to jump down a few feet into the hotel hallway. Chat pulled the elevator doors apart with ease winking at Marinette as he did so. He quickly leapt down to the hotel floor and offered Marinette his hand. Marinette took it before easing herself down onto the floor next to him. Chat turned back to the elevator offering his hand out to Nathaniel now. Nathaniel looked hesitantly towards Chat’s open hand.
“I’m not so sure I should trust you,” Nathaniel squeaked. Chat Noir rolled his eyes.
“I got you out of the elevator didn’t I? A little faith in me would be nice,” Chat complained.
“Technically Marinette got us out,” Nathaniel pointed out.
“Would you just take my hand and get out of there?!” Chat Noir barked, exasperated.
Nathaniel leaned forward reaching to take Chat’s hand. At the last second Chat pulled his hand away letting Nathaniel land face first into the floor. Chat Noir started snickering as Nathaniel groaned from his place on the floor. Marinette placed her face in her hand. She never wanted to be stuck in an elevator with either of those two again!
