My Top Posts in 2022:
#5
simple
jason todd x gender neutral reader. 613 words.
notes:
warnings: vague descriptions of messy, yucky feelings on reader's part, including vague feelings of inadequacy.
"are you alright?"
a simple question.
theoretically a simple answer.
as you turned the question over in your mind, preparing an answer (simple question, simple answer, it could be simple) you heard him step through the doorway he was lingering in.
the sound- as quiet as it was- shook you from your muddied train of thought.
it was him. it was jason.
jason knew better than anyone it wasn't always simple.

#4
nighttime nerves
jason todd x gender neutral reader. 1,001 words. notes: 🥴 warnings: anxiety, associated irritability, trouble sleeping, brief mention of food.
it was four in the morning, and you were pretty sure the humming of the air conditioner was going to be the final straw for what remained of your composure.
you were just trying to sleep.
careful, measured breaths- in, held, and released- had helped to ease the tumbling feeling in your stomach, but now your focus had shifted from the rise and fall of your chest to the rattling of the vent in the wall.
bullshit.
it was bullshit, all of it. and you were tired. and you just wanted to go to sleep so you would have a fighting chance the next day, and instead you were fighting the urge to take the baseball bat from jason's side of the bed and smash the vent in on itself.
sure, it wouldn't make it any quieter, but it was starting to sound more and more cathartic with every passing moment.

you had me worried
jason todd x gender neutral reader. 906 words. notes: hi please don't call people if you're trying to keep one or both parties anonymous <3 but for the sake of this little story, please disregard that. just insert bat-tech for anonymity <3 also, this was requested by @definitelydivergent as part of my blogiversary celebration! thank you so much, honey- hope you enjoy :) warnings: anxiety, canon-typical terrorism and violence
"hey, perfect timing. i was just thinking about y-"
jason's agitated voice, distorted slightly by the phone, cut you off. "baby, baby- shh, stop talking. where are you? home?"
his words were surrounded by heavy breathing, crashes, and shouting, a cacophony unsettling enough to distract you from how rude 'stop talking' was. "yeah?"
"thank god," he muttered, before grunting in effort and raising his voice over a clattering noise in the background. "i need you to stay there, okay?"
"is everything okay?"
"no, everything's shit- robin! your six!- and i need you to stay put." he paused for a moment, and you could hear a slam in the background. "please."

six in the morning.
jason todd x gender neutral reader. 503 words. notes: requested by the lovely @jason-redhood for my blogiversary celebration how was may so long ago??? i hope you enjoy, lovely <3 warnings: none i can think of!
"c'mon, bedtime."
he chuckled before speaking quietly. "what am i, five?'
"jason," you said firmly, moving around his chair to lean against the table, effectively blocking the lamp from shining on the papers in his hand. "it's six in the morning."
his brow twitched ever so slightly, subtly confirming your belief that he had lost track of time. he sighed, leaning back in his chair and dropping the papers unceremoniously beside you before looking up to meet your gaze. "okay."
"which is bedtime."
"then go to bed."
"i was in bed. i slept."

jason todd x gender neutral reader. 294 words. notes: i'm very tired but this little idea wouldn't let me sleep. curse this man. warnings: none i can think of
his lips were on yours.
his lips were warm.
his lips were ever-so-slightly chapped, and just as you were realizing that, his palm found your jaw and you had a whole new set of sensations to take stock of.
similarly warm and weathered, his thumb rubbed your cheek softly and made you sigh into the kiss.

Last of my Steve Rogers’ birthday bingo challenge prompt! Thanks to @the-ce-horniest-book-club for hosting a fun monthly event!
Pairing: Det Paul Diskant x You
Warnings: PG, mention of death, gun, movie!spoilers
Word Count: 504
Prompt: “Is that what just happened?”
A/N: Popped my Diskant 🍒! Kinda spoilers? Okay there are. So if you haven’t watched Street Kings with my other husband, Keanu, then you’ve been warned. How I wish it would have ended.
******************************************************
“Paul!” You shout as you sit up in a cold sweat in bed. Your chest feels heavy and your heart dropped to your stomach. The very hint of dawn peeks through the bedroom window and Paul grumbles as he tries to gain focus of the situation.
“What, baby? What is it?” He rubs his eyes and checks for his glock which is on the nightstand. You start to tear up and breathe heavily.
“Paul…” you cry as he turns on the lamp on the nightstand and hugs you in aid.
“What’s the matter?”
“I had a bad dream,” you reply and clutch his arms as he moves closer to you in the bed.
“Oh, that’s it?” He sighs and rests his head against the bed frame.
You turn to him in anger, “That’s it? You were killed, Diskant. In cold blood.”
“Is that what just happened?”
You slap him away, but he grabs you tighter.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he replied and kissed your shoulder.
“It felt so real…”
“Yeah? Want to tell me more?”
“I dunno…you were just talking to some guys. I saw a fish tank…you seemed to have known them.”
“Fish tank, huh?” He says as he peers over to his cell, 4:56am. He’d have to be up in a few hours to the office. He hadn’t told you how he was working with Tom Ludlow and how there was a break in the Washington case. That he’d be going undercover tonight, posed as some dirty cops to find more intel of the coverup.
“Don’t change the subject, Paul,” you pleaded and looked into his blue eyes. “Don’t go to work.”
“Aw, baby. That was just a silly dream.”
“I know, but I have a bad feeling. Please don’t go. Stay with me, I’ll take the day off, too.”
He tsked at your request, he knew he’d had to go in. What could he say to the Chief. That his fiancée had a premonition that he was going to die, so he was gonna call out? The guys would laugh at him for a month. He also knew he couldn’t fully trust Ludlow, and he needed to be there in case things went awol.
“Disco,” you said firmly. You never used his nickname. It was a moniker the guys gave him and you thought it was dumb. But you had to get his attention, something in your gut didn’t sit right.
“Babe,” he said as he rolled his eyes.
“I mean it. Don’t go. Please?”
He thought your dream was silly. That it didn’t mean anything, that he was always careful. Being on the LAPD meant to always be on standby. He couldn’t just leave Ludlow hanging. He grumbled, but knew he wouldn’t hear the end of it with you if he went in.
“Paul, please. I don’t want to hear a 10-42,” you asked again. Knowing how much you hated hearing your fellow dispatchers call out that ten code when an officer had been killed.
“Y/N…”
You squeezed him harder, “I’m not gonna let you go. I’m going to handcuff you to the bed if I have to.”
He smiled and kissed your forehead, “Promise?”
“Whatever it takes,” you reply and give him a hard kiss on the lips.
“Okay, I’ll call in. I’m serious about those handcuffs,” he grinned and waggled his eyebrows.
“Sure thing, Officer. Just hold me right now so I can fall back to sleep. And you better not sneak off.”
“10-4.”

rating my teachers based on ableist shit they've done
there's actually like a lot so here's the cut
ASL teacher: Literally just ignored my 504 the whole year. Thought it would be fun to teach me due to the fact that I wear noise cancelling headphones for a disorder that LITERALLY MAKES NOISE PAINFUL 4/10
Gym teacher: He teaches gym so I mean half of this isn't his fault but I still had to to the (WEEKLY???) pacer test even though I'm an asthmatic cripple. Oh and he didn't follow my 504. 6/10
History teacher: Fucking love her will absolutely give her money when I'm older and have spare money she's a fucking queen I love her fuck yeah she's literally so amazing, and she also cares about kids' mental health to the point that she would let you sit out of class if you were overstimulated or something. LOVE HER 10000/10
Science teacher: A shitbag who basically said that my 504 doesn't matter because he didn't see how that would affect my education and that "there's always other science teachers if you're going to act this way" when I called him out for violating my 504, but he's gotten nicer over the year so that's good I guess 2/10
Band teacher: Literally made me do shit that I was physically incapable of, but she's really nice to me and our relationship has gotten better. She also goes out of her way to help disabled kids (the ones she likes when she's in a good mood) 5/10
English teacher: Very good at following my 504. He's a very neutral energy, I don't have much to say here. 10/10
Maths teacher: First thing she ever said to me was a """joke""" about how she wasn't going to follow my 504, she treats me like I'm lesser than my peers due to my 504, and she gets mad at me when I request to speak with my case manager. Also, not ableism, but made me feel very unwelcome as a Jew in her classroom. 0/10
The other maths teacher: Idk?? Violated my 504 once, and now doesn't ever talk to me. 2/10
Theater teacher: I love him to bits but if he does, or references, any more plays with slurs in them I'm gonna tell his wife. (No but really I've heard him say the r, i, and c slur like, maybe 50 times this year. I'm so fed up). Amazing with my 504 though. 9/10
Marching band/choir teacher: He's so fucking nice and I love him but he's always been a bit of a dick to the kids with PTSD, so, not the biggest fan. (actually that last bit is a lie he's my favourite, i'm just mad about how he treats mentally disabled people) 7/10
Marching band teacher: Love him but we started off really rough with him trying to teach the cripple out of me, so, like, that wasn't great. He's wonderful otherwise. 8/10
Percussion instructor: Amazing, didn't get mad at me when I had to quit perc due to hyperacusis, is (accidentally) transphobic though. 6/10
Choir teacher: I love her, but she has a very very bad poster in her room that's basically "Deaf people can't do music" so I don't ever feel entirely comfortable around her. 7/10
Dance instructor: Amazing, helps me work around ITW so I can still participate, and is helping me get set up in physical therapy. 10/10
Musical theater director: Terrifying but nice, makes wayy to many abuse jokes though. 4/10
All of these people are employed and paid by my school

Dispatches from the Church Front: my church is meeting next month to pick a side in the ordination & marriage of LGTBQ persons...it’s gonna be a clusterf*ck
I really don’t know what is going to happen or what I’ll choose to do once the decision comes down...stay or go?
I’m talking about the United Methodist Church, which has about 12 million members worldwide, 7 million in the United States.
Christianity at-large is flourishing in the Global South: Latin America, Asia, and Africa (which has about 631 million Christians, making it the continent with the most Christian adherents) while it is floundering in America & Europe. In America, most new Christians are people of color. (x)
Christianity-at-large moves slow and large. Generalizing, in church history there is a major shake-up in worldwide Christianity every 500 years or so. It’s a rummage sale of sorts where old systems are thrown out, who makes up the church changes, and there are major theological shifts. It’s never a single issue - but a set of core issues/factors/historical events that are thematically linked - that spark the change. And those changes ripple outward in the cultures around the church. Like I said, we move slow and large. The kicker? 2017 marked 500 years since the last one (the Protestant Reformation). We’re due. (x)
My Methodist centric-life: Neither of my parents grew up in religious families; when they became Christians they each chose Methodism with a lot of intention. They met at a United Methodist seminary and both became pastors. Eventually my mom went back to school for computer science so then it was just my dad in ministry. Our pastors get moved a lot like soldiers in the military - so we moved about every 4 years to a completely new church and town. The church had been a huge part of my childhood just in the most practical way. I have never wanted to be a pastor. ::skips over long story:: still I earned my masters at a Methodist seminary. I’ve worked for lots of different kinds of churches, but most of that time has been spent in Methodist settings. Today, that is where I work and where I worship. To be thinking of walking away from my church [not my faith] is big and scary, but I feel ready to do it depending on what happens in the next few months.
At the end of February, a called General Conference will happen in St. Louis, MO. General Conference is like the Olympics - it happens every 4 years and everyone shows up for it. The one happening in February is called one - a special one off schedule specifically to deal with our polity and human sexuality.
In America, Methodists have a reputation for being nice. We kinda fall in the middle on the spectrum of church denominations you’ve heard of. We’re not too extreme one way or the other with our beliefs. I don’t say this to flatter ourselves; nice and medium can also be polite ways of saying wishy-washy.
Most Protestant denominations in the US have already picked their side: the Episcopalians, Baptists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, non-denominational/mega churches, etc. We’re the last major denomination to do so.
We’ve been punting on this for my entire life. Our church is made up of conferences - usually one per state - and while technically, our polity (it’s actually called the Book of Discipline because clearly God has a sense of humor) prohibits the ordination and marriage of LGTBQ persons on a practical level that has been at the discretion of the bishops and pastors in each conference. I’m generalizing here but a conference in the South is going to be a very different experience for LGBTQ persons than one in the Pacific Northwest. It’s been a weird holding pattern for decades that is fair to no one and hurts everyone.
Why the are you still part of all this? Well, my faith is Christian and not driven by a denomination’s beliefs or polity. But I’m here because this is part of my family and choosing to leave a part of who you are that is such a core aspect of your identity is never easy. Also, because I’ve been fortunate to be fairly insulated from the conversation. I’m straight raised in a household where our parents told us out loud and with regularity that love is love - you can love whomever you want and we will love you. The Methodist churches I’ve been a part of have been LGTBQ affirming congregations. In college, I participated in a conservative Evangelical church ministry and that was the first time in my entire life I heard a pastor say homosexuality was a sin. I challenged that, but I also stayed because there were other parts of that church community that were good for me. I got to set the issue aside and pretend it wasn’t that big of a deal. Eventually, I left because I couldn’t stand how they viewed women. I knew at the time that my frustration about the way that church treated women was parallel to what was happening to LGBTQ persons. I couldn’t care about one and not the other; it’d make me a hypocrite if I did. I wish I’d seen that more quickly, but it took that experience for me to get that this wasn’t some abstract theological debate - that it affects real people who I need to care about because Jesus already does.
It’s as straight forward as 7 + 5 = 833/78 i.e. next month is going to be a clusterf*ck. In the UMC church there are 5 jurisdictions in the United States and 7 world-wide in Africa, Europe, & the Philippines. From those jurisdictions will be 864 delegates who will be the ones to vote. Those delegates are 50% clergy and 50% lay people, but the number of delegates from each jurisdiction is proportional to church membership & clergy. 504 delegates are from the United States and 360 are from Africa, Europe, & the Philippines. There will also be non-voting delegates from affiliated Methodist denominations in Asia and Latin America. They are autonomous from whatever decisions are made. This isn’t just about the U.S.
Here’s where the numbers tell you this is going to be a clusterf*ck: They say the devil is in the details, right? Well in 2016, at the last General Conference they voted to finally stop sitting on the fence. The decision was to form a committee (GAWD my church loves committees and acronyms) to come up with a few proposals that’d be voted on at this called General Conference in 2019. Just to allow for us to take up the issue - to stop punting and being wishy washy - the vote was razor close. We’re talking 428 to 405. (Some delegates abstained, too) 23 people being the difference one way or the other for 12 million.
Oh but, there are 78 separate proposals for “what to do.” Are you beginning to see why this is going to be a clusterf*ck no matter what happens?
Taking this micro... The plan with the most likely chance of passing would allow individual clergy & churches to pick a side. I think the plan is super flawed for a lot of reasons, but that isn’t the point ::long boring explanation about polity:: If this plan passes some important voting would need to take place at the local level that would affect the people I know and care about. My clergy friends who I went to school with. The church I work for. The institution I earned my degree from. The church where I worship. So on and so on. My worshipping congregation is a medium-sized liberal one. Our pastor has asked for a sabbatical because she’s about to burn out. I’m on the governing board and we had to approve the request or not. She’s an important vote at the local level but if she’s on sabbatical our church’s voice won’t be heard when it might count the most. We approved it of course, but it made for some awkward, hard conversations.
So that’s what is going on in a distant corner of church-land. I don’t know what I’m going to do - truly. I’m waiting to see what happens in February.

College Executive Functioning Tips
Fair warning: this post is not really about doing homework, rather ideas for successfully acquiring/accessing more general living and organizational skills while dorming. Also, my first semester has been a shitshow so idk how qualified I am to give advice on the matter, but take it as you will. In a way it's "things I learned the hard way"/a reflection on my first semester.
That being said, here we go:
1. To remember to bring the correct notebooks and materials, get a hanging clothes organizer and label for the 5/7 days of the week. Place the books/materials needed for each day on each labeled shelf. If you need certain books on multiple days, you can put index card placeholders or label what should be in each compartment.
2. Alternatively, you can get a mini days of the week dry erase board or a computer printout and write what materials you need on which days and which classes you go to (in order.)
3. This tip also works for homework: in college, the workload is much more predictable week to week, so if you always have online math due Monday, put it in another weekly table and schedule days to work on it in advance.
4. Schedule your asssignments to be done ahead of time. It's a lot harder to get deadline-related accommodations in college and if you're like me you feel uncomfortable asking for them. I've only needed to ask for one non accommodation included extension this semester, and it's largely due to this.
5. Get. Your. Accommodations. In. Order. Before. The. School. Year. Starts. (if at all possible)
Learn from my mistakes. To be fair I didn't have another option because my school requires everything to be done in person but it took me a month to get my letters which resulted in some awkward/discriminatory situations. Oops.
6. College accommodation processes are different than high school. There are no 504s/IEPs/under the table stealth accommodations here. Some colleges require retesting for your documentation. All require you to fill out a bunch of forms. You are largely responsible for knowing what helps you (though your liaison will likely make suggestions) so make a list of what worked for you in high school and will fly in college and request those (bring it with you to the meeting if you will forget). Also, your parents are generally forbidden from getting involved unless you sign a consent form, which is a huge change. You will need/be forced to develop self-advocacy skills. I definitely did. You also generally need to request to renew your accommodations every semester, and it's your responsibility to remember. Set a reminder on your phone/digital calendar.
7. Post its are your friend. For me, they've been a valuable asset to my sucky working memory and using them minimizes resulting anxiety.
8. Laundry is hard, especially when you have physical disabilities. Double check your pockets or you might accidentally send your favorite pen through the wash and induce a meltdown. (To be fair I do check- which is why I said double check)
9. Choose specific dates/times to do your laundry, and set reminders. If you alternate lights and darks and do it, say, every Wednesday morning (pick an off time- Friday nights are great) you are a lot less likely to end up with a month's worth of laundry and nothing to wear when you really need to look nice. Also, your suitcase can double as a rolling laundry basket.
10. Try to eat around the same times every day. Set alarms if you forget. Try to go on the off hours and eat as healthily as possible.
11. Clean your room before it gets too messy. This should go without saying but my drawers got junky by the end of the semester. Try scheduling a day of the week to do a quick clean up.
12. Your space can be a reflection of your mental state. I need things visually organized, but when I'm not doing well mentally I stop cleaning off my desk, putting my clothes in the laundry basket, making an attempt to make my bed, you name it. I've learned to recognize that this is a sign of stress and that tidying up a bit will make me feel a bit better.
13. College is not conducive to sleep, especially for work heavy majors. You. Need. (around) 8. (ish) Hours. Get them. It's hard but everything else will fall apart if you don't.
14. Make " routine cards" for things like showering. Write down everything you need to take a shower on an index card and your steps for taking a shower (you can set a timer) so that you don't take half an hour to get out your shampoo.
15. Drink water. Carry a water bottle so you have the visual reminder. Drink a glass at every meal. Schedule "teatime" and make an event of staying hydrated.
16. Allow yourself to relax. This is hard because the college environment demands you be "on" at all times, and this resulted in me feeling guilty for not studying when I was, well, not studying. I'm trying to work on scheduling times to work and times to not work, and to remember that I need to do fun things to take care of myself.
17. If you dress nicer than usual, you will apparently not look as depressed (assuming you have depression in the first place...). Use this to your advantage.
18. If you have un/undertreated/situational depression, get help before it gets really bad. I know a lot of college mental health offices push people away but put your self advocacy skills to use and get that counseling or whatever.
19. In the same vein, if you are struggling in a class (for whatever reason) don't be ashamed to get extra help/sign up for tutoring. Especially if you're like me and never needed to study a day in your life before this because the courses are structured differently.
20. Recognize your accomplishments. College can be really, really hard for people with impaired executive functioning, mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, etc. The change is hard and the learning curve is steep. But you've made it this far- so congrats! Celebrate!

Copy flask request/app context to another process
tl;dr
How can I serialise a Flask app or request context, or a subset of that context (i.e. whatever can be successfully serialised) so that I can access that context from another process, rather than a thread?
Long version
I have some functions that require access to the Flask request context, or the App context, that I want to run in the background.
Flask has a built-in @copy_current_request_context decorator to wrap a function in a copy of the request context, so you can run it in a different thread:
from threading import Threadfrom flask import Flask, request, copy_current_request_contextapp = Flask(__name__)@app.route('/')def index(): request.foo = 'bar' @copy_current_request_context def baz(): print(request.foo) thr = Thread(target=baz) thr.start() return 'ok'
Whilst Flask doesn't provide a built-in decorator to copy the app context, it provides the machinery to do it - a solution is described on Access flask.g inside greenlet
What I've tried
First of all, I was hoping to solve with Pickle. This is what is used by concurrent.futures.ProcessPoolExecutor. Unfortunately, Pickle fails due to the presence of thread lock objects inside the app context:
>>> with app.test_request_context('/'):... pickle.dumps(appctx)...Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 2, in <module>TypeError: can't pickle _thread.lock objects
It also can't copy decorated/wrapped functions:
>>> with app.test_request_context('/'):... bar = copy_current_request_context(pow)... pickle.dumps(bar)...Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 3, in <module>_pickle.PicklingError: Can't pickle <function pow at 0x110bee8c8>: it's not the same object as builtins.pow
Next I tried dill. It passes the above two tests, but it can't serialise a lot of other things that might end up in a context. App contexts especially are prone to having extensions link themselves in: SQLAlchemy is a great example. Here's what happens when you're using SQLAlchemy and you try to serialise your app context:
>>> from flask_sqlalchemy import SQLAlchemy>>> db = SQLAlchemy(app)>>> with app.test_request_context('/'):... from flask.globals import _app_ctx_stack... appctx = _app_ctx_stack.top... dill.dumps(appctx)...Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 4, in <module> File "/Users/dchevell/Development/python3/sandbox/env/lib/python3.7/site-packages/dill/_dill.py", line 294, in dumps dump(obj, file, protocol, byref, fmode, recurse)#, strictio) File "/Users/dchevell/Development/python3/sandbox/env/lib/python3.7/site-packages/dill/_dill.py", line 287, in dump pik.dump(obj) File "/usr/local/Cellar/python/3.7.3/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.7/lib/python3.7/pickle.py", line 437, in dump self.save(obj) File "/usr/local/Cellar/python/3.7.3/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.7/lib/python3.7/pickle.py", line 549, in save self.save_reduce(obj=obj, *rv) File "/usr/local/Cellar/python/3.7.3/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.7/lib/python3.7/pickle.py", line 662, in save_reduce save(state) File "/usr/local/Cellar/python/3.7.3/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.7/lib/python3.7/pickle.py", line 504, in save f(self, obj) # So: is there any way around this? One thought I had was that forking a new process "just in time" - i.e. immediately before I want to run my background task - may mean I don't even need to copy a context at all, it should already have it as long as the fork happens after the context is set up. I don't know how to make this work with a ProcessPoolExecutor however, where processes are a long lived pool. The only idea I have there is to somehow force worker processes to shut down at the end of each task but I'm pretty sure that this will just result in a broken pool.

Which 4 Republicans Voted Yes Today
I Do Solemnly Swear That I Will Support And Defend The Constitution Of The United States Against All Enemies Foreign And Domestic; That I Will Bear True Faith And Allegiance To The Same; That I Take This Obligation Freely Without Any Mental Reservation Or Purpose Of Evasion; And That I Will Well And Faithfully Discharge The Duties Of The Office On Which I Am About To Enter So Help Me God
Mortality.
It’s something that you don’t really consider when you’re young. You can do anything. You’re invincible.
But as we grow older, we start considering that mortality.
It’s time we start considering the mortality of America.
I spend a substantial amount of time working in two different arenas – the world of law enforcement and the business world.
That travel that I referenced – both in the business world and supporting the LE world – has afforded me countless opportunities to work side by side with some of the greatest patriots in America.
My closest friends are either in law enforcement or either active or retired members of some of the most elite military forces in America. And from our greatest warriors to our everyday citizens… I can tell you the underlying fear that so many are thinking about – and that’s the seemingly inevitable collapse of society if we don’t make some monumental changes.
As a Christian, I believe we are in the middle of some serious spiritual warfare. But you don’t have to be a Christian to understand that the very soul of America is under attack right now. And the rapid erosion of the Thin Blue Line has us sitting on a powder keg.
Historically, if you look at the collapse of some of the greatest empires in the world, it happened from within. Simply put, it raises the distinct danger that America won’t be conquered by foreign enemies … but rather from domestic ones.

Mcconnell Among 19 Republicans To Vote For Infrastructure Bill Here Are The Republicans Who Helped It Over The Finish Line
A group of 19 Senate Republicans, led by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, joined the entire Democratic caucus in passing a $1.2 trillion infrastructure package on Tuesday.
The bill passed with a vote of 69-30, more than two weeks after President Joe Biden declared “we have a deal” with a bipartisan group of negotiators.
But the final bill included some noteworthy dissent.
Republican Sens. Jerry Moran of Kansas and Todd Young of Indiana were part of the bipartisan coalition backing the deal in July, but both voted against the bill on Tuesday, citing concerns about the national debt and Democrats’ plan to take up a $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package after the infrastructure vote.
Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., was not present for the vote but said he would not support the bill even though he also was part of the initial bipartisan group.
What’s in the infrastructure bill? Roads, broadband and bridges: Here’s what’s in the infrastructure agreement
In the split Senate, the bill still drew support from enough Republicans to pass the chamber, even as they faced pressure from former President Donald Trump to not give Biden a legislative win.
Biden said after the vote on Tuesday that he called most of the 19 Republican senators who voted for the infrastructure bill to praise them.
Here is how the Senate’s 50 Republicans voted:
The Tree Of Liberty Must Be Refreshed From Time To Time With The Blood Of Patriots And Tyrants It Is Its Natural Manure
We are seeing groups here in America demanding open borders. Demanding the decriminalization of crossing into our country illegally.
At the same time, across our great country, we are seeing the CRIMINALIZATION of law enforcement. It’s gotten so bad in states like the People’s Republic of California and Connecticut that we’re seeing the crash and burn of morale in law enforcement.
We’re seeing agencies desperate for officers, because as more and more retire , we see a deficit in the number of incoming recruits. After all, why would you want to live a life of service when you’re just going to be attacked for that service?
We see political activists masquerading as police chiefs. We see them working hand in hand with liberal politicians to not only attack the rights of law-abiding citizens, but also to destroy the morale of their own departments. We watch as they flat out disrespect the oath of office they took and put officers in no-win situations.
If I were to design a road map for how to collapse America, starting with law enforcement, here’s what it would look like.
Capitol Police Chief Apologizes For Security Failures During The Assault Including A Delay In Calling For Guard Troops
The acting chief of the Capitol Police apologized to Congress on Tuesday for the agency’s extensive security failures on Jan. 6, acknowledging during a closed-door briefing that the department knew there was a “strong potential for violence” but failed to take adequate steps to prevent what she described as a “terrorist attack.”
Yogananda D. Pittman, the acting chief of police, also confirmed that the Capitol Police Board, an obscure panel made up of three voting members, had initially declined a request two days earlier for National Guard troops and then delayed for more than an hour as the violence unfolded on Jan. 6 before finally agreeing to a plea from the Capitol Police for National Guard troops, according to prepared testimony obtained by The New York Times.
In an extraordinary admission, Chief Pittman, who was not the acting chief at the time of the siege, told members of the House Appropriations Committee, which oversees funding for the agency, that the Capitol Police “failed to meet its own high standards as well as yours.” She added, “I am here to offer my sincerest apologies on behalf of the department.” Chief Pittman’s predecessor, Steven Sund, resigned after the riot.
Chief Pittman’s comments offered the fullest detailed account to date about police preparations for Jan. 6, when thousands of angry protesters, believing false claims that the election had been stolen, marched on the Capitol at the behest of former President Donald J. Trump.
List Of 17 Cowardly Republicans Who Voted To Break Filibuster And Allow Massive Infrastructure Bill To Come To Floor

The so-called “infrastructure” bill is expected to be around $1.2 trillion over eight years with roughly $550 billion in new spending, but details on key components were still being worked out. Some procedural steps still lie ahead before the final passage.
CNN correspondent Manu Raju tweeted about the 17 cowardly Republicans who voted this afternoon to advance Biden’s climate change infrastructure bill to the Senate floor:
67-32, 17 Senate Republicans voted to break a filibuster and proceeed to the bipartisan infrastructure plan. All Democrats voted yes. Measure expected to be on the floor for at least a week and bipartisan coalition will have to deal with amendment process

“Clearing the Fog” clarified why this bill is not a done deal:
Just to be clear, the infrastructure bill has not been passed. 17Republicans agreed to break the filibuster, and allow it to come to the floor. It isn’t nearly over.

A record 504 bills introduced in the Colorado legislature became law this year, and 94% of them had at least one Republican vote.
And half of the 39 Republicans in the state House and Senate voted for 58% of those bills, according to a Colorado Sun analysis.
That’s despite a third year of Democratic rule at the Colorado Capitol and GOP complaints that the majority party and Democratic Gov. Jared Polis are enacting policies that are too liberal and unfair to businesses and taxpayers.
The Sun analyzed final third-reading votes on the 504 bills that became law, omitting the four bills vetoed by Polis and the 114 measures that died in committees or never received a final vote on one of the chamber floors.
Janet Yellen The First Woman To Be Treasury Secretary Is Sworn In By The First Woman To Be Vice President
Janet L. Yellen was sworn in as the secretary of the Treasury Department on Tuesday by Vice President Kamala Harris, a history-making moment as both are the first women to hold two of the most powerful jobs in the United States government.
Ms. Yellen is the nation’s 78th Treasury secretary and the first woman to head the institution in its 232-year history. She is also the first woman to have held all three top economic jobs in the government, having served as chair of the Federal Reserve and the Council of Economic Advisers.
She is taking the job at a time of economic crisis, with millions still out of work and the recovery slowing as the coronavirus persists. Ms. Yellen will quickly be thrust into fraught negotiations over how to design and pass a robust stimulus package to help revive an economy that has been hammered by the pandemic.
Standing outside the White House, Ms. Yellen took the oath of office with her husband, the economist George Akerlof, and her son by her side. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Ms. Harris said, “Congratulations, Madam Secretary,” to which Ms. Yellen replied, “Thank you, Madam Vice President.”
Ms. Yellen said on Twitter that she was proud to be joining the Treasury Department and described the field of economics, and the agency’s mission, as one that can “right past wrongs and improve people’s lives.”

Capitol Riot Investigation Will Slow As Officials Work To Build More Complicated Cases Justice Dept Says
Justice Department officials said on Tuesday that the fast-moving federal investigation into the assault on the Capitol is expected to slow as investigators turn their attention to more complex matters such as conspiracy and sedition cases, the investigation into the death of Officer Brian D. Sicknick of the Capitol Police and violent attacks on members of the press.
In the 20 days since rioters stormed the Capitol, the F.B.I. has received over 200,000 digital media tips and identified more than 400 suspects. Federal prosecutors quickly charged 150 criminal cases, many of which have now been elevated to felonies.
But the manhunt and investigation is expected to “reach a period of a plateau,” said Michael R. Sherwin, the U.S. attorney in Washington, as investigators shift from identifying and rounding up individuals to putting together more complicated conspiracy cases related to possible coordination among militia groups and individuals from different states who had planned to travel to the Capitol and engage in criminal conduct before the attack.
“We have to have the proper evidence to charge these, and we’re going to get it,” said Steven M. D’Antuono, the F.B.I. assistant deputy in charge of the Washington field office. “All these cases are not based upon social media and Twitter and Instagram posts. We also have traditional law enforcement tools we need to use — grand jury subpoenas search warrants — and you don’t get that overnight.”
Republicans Defy Kevin Mccarthy And Gop Leadership To Vote With All Democrats In Favor Of Forming A 9/11
The House passed a bill that would create a commission to investigate the January 6 MAGA riot, with a vote of 252-175
Thirty-five Republicans defected from leadership and voted in favor of the bill that would create a bipartisan commission with subpoena power
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy came out against the bill Tuesday, followed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday
‘I beg you to pass this bill,’ said Republican Rep. John Katko, who had negotiated with Democrats to get the bill finished
Katko received applause on the House floor for saying the legislation was dedicated to members of the Capitol Police and their families
Earlier, an un-official letter from some members of the Capitol Police circulated shaming Republicans for not wanting to investigate January 6
Senator Patrick Leahy 80 Is Briefly Hospitalized As A Precaution After He Reported Feeling Unwell
Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, the longest-serving senator and the president pro tempore, was briefly taken to a hospital in Washington for observation early Tuesday evening after he reported not feeling well, his spokesman said. He returned home a few hours later after an evaluation.
Mr. Leahy, whose position in the Senate puts him third in line for the presidency, oversaw the start of the impeachment proceedings against former President Donald J. Trump earlier on Tuesday. At 80, Mr. Leahy is one of the oldest senators and has served in the Senate since 1975.
After he reported not feeling well in his office, Mr. Leahy “was examined in the Capitol by the attending physician,” said David Carle, the spokesman. “Out of an abundance of caution, the attending physician recommended that he be taken to a local hospital for observation, where he is now, and where he is being evaluated.”
Mr. Leahy was taken to George Washington University Hospital, where he received tests and “a thorough examination” before being released, Mr. Carle said.
The senator “looks forward to getting back to work,” Mr. Carle said.
Mr. Leahy has received both vaccine shots for the coronavirus, and it was unclear what his symptoms were.
Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa and Mr. Leahy’s predecessor as president pro tempore, was among those who wished Mr. Leahy well in a tweet Tuesday evening.

Biden Calls Putin To Discuss Navalny Government Hack Ukraine And Malign Actions By Russia
President Biden called President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia on Tuesday to address a long list of grievances — from the hacking of U.S. federal agencies, to the poisoning and detention of the Russian dissident Aleksei A. Navalny as well as a host of other “malign actions by Russia,” Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, said.
Mr. Biden struck a more confrontational tone — a sharp break from former President Donald J. Trump’s chummy approach to Mr. Putin — committing to the protection of Ukraine’s “sovereignty,” and pressing for the extension of the New Start treaty for five years, which would limit both countries to 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear weapons.
“President Biden made clear that the United States will act firmly in defense of its national interests in response to actions by Russia that harm us or our allies,” according to a White House readout of the conversation. “The two presidents agreed to maintain transparent and consistent communication going forward.”
When Mr. Biden was asked at an event at the White House on Tuesday what Mr. Putin had to say, the president joked, “He sends his best!”
Mr. Biden attacked Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin with abandon during the 2020 campaign. But although he was able to mock Mr. Trump’s relationship with the Russian leader when he was a candidate, as president he must keep the peace between uneasy nuclear rivals.
But he quickly pivoted to the need for cooperation in “mutual self-interest,” and the treaty.

Lloyd Austin The New Defense Secretary Prepares To Address Sexual Assault In The Military
After years of failure to curb the scourge of sexual assault in the military, Lloyd J. Austin III, the new secretary of defense, is open to to how those crimes are prosecuted, a potential sea change that generations of commanders have resisted.
Overhauling the way the military handles sexual assault cases — by taking them outside the chain of command and assigning them to prosecutors with no connection to the accused — would need approval by Congress, where some legislators have long pushed for such a system.
President Biden has been a vocal proponent of these changes, even as general after general has gone to Capitol Hill to argue against them over the past decade. “I had a real run-in with one of the members of the Joint Chiefs in the cabinet room on the issue,” Mr. Biden said last year at a fund-raiser.
Mr. Austin’s first act as secretary was to order a review of how the Pentagon has been handling sexual assault cases. He is also being pushed by Congress. Senators repeatedly asked him how he planned to handle the problems of sexual harassment and assault in the military during his confirmation hearing this month.
If Mr. Austin, a retired four-star army general, were to embrace these changes, he would be the first secretary to do so, a major shift in position for the Pentagon.
The Capitol Attack Wasnt A False Flag Gop Officials Continue To Spread The Theory Anyway
In the hours after supporters of President Donald J. Trump engaged in a violent assault on the U.S. Capitol, some Republicans began advancing a fantastical alternative theory: that the attack was actually led by far-left activists trying to frame Republicans.
The outlandish claims have been widely discredited by the authorities, and some of the faces in the Capitol crowd were recognizable right-wing figures. The numerous arrests since the assault have overwhelmingly involved devoted Trump supporters and far-right adherents. But despite the clear evidence, the so-called false flag theory continues to persist in Republican circles.
Last week, the Oregon Republican Party passed a resolution falsely claiming that there was “growing evidence that the violence at the Capitol was a ‘false flag’ operation designed to discredit President Trump, his supporters and all conservative Republicans.” Bill Currier, the chairman of the Oregon Republican Party, said in a video discussion that state party officials were working with counterparts across the country to “coordinate our messaging” around the Capitol attack, the response to it and the continuing efforts to impeach the president.
Mr. Currier said other states would be adopting similar resolutions. “There will be many states doing this,” Mr. Currier said. “We’re not the only ones.”
Gop Leader Mccarthy: Trump ‘bears Responsibility’ For Violence Won’t Vote To Impeach
Some ambitious Republican senators have never been as on board the Trump train as the more feverish GOP members in the House, and the former might be open to convicting Trump. But their ambition cuts two ways — on the one hand, voting to ban Trump opens a lane to carry the Republican mantle in 2024 and be the party’s new standard-bearer, but, on the other, it has the potential to alienate many of the 74 million who voted for Trump, and whose votes they need.
It’s a long shot that Trump would ultimately be convicted, because 17 Republicans would need to join Democrats to get the two-thirds majority needed for a conviction. But it’s growing clearer that a majority of the Senate will vote to convict him, reflecting the number of Americans who are in favor of impeachment, disapproved of the job Trump has done and voted for his opponent in the 2020 presidential election.

Party Leaders Including Mcconnell And Trump Had Urged Colleagues To Reject Proposal
WASHINGTON—Senate Republicans blocked the creation of a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, after GOP leaders urged colleagues to reject it.
The bill needed 60 votes to advance in the evenly divided Senate, thanks to the chamber’s longstanding filibuster rule. That means 10 Republicans would have had to vote with all 50 members of the Democratic caucus to allow the bill to proceed. Only six did, and the legislation fell short, with 54 votes in favor, 35 against and 11 senators not voting.
The six Republicans who voted in favor of proceeding with the legislation were Sens. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rob Portman of Ohio, Mitt Romney of Utah and Ben Sasse of Nebraska. All but Mr. Portman had voted to convict former President Donald Trump in February at his impeachment trial on charges of inciting insurrection on Jan. 6. Mr. Trump was acquitted.
Two Democrats weren’t present for the vote: Sens. Patty Murray of Washington state and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona. Nine Republicans also didn’t vote, including Sens. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Richard Burr of North Carolina, both of whom were among the seven GOP senators who voted to convict Mr. Trump earlier this year.
House Votes To Impeach Trump But Senate Trial Unlikely Before Biden’s Inauguration
9. Rep. John Katko, New York’s 24th: Katko is a moderate from an evenly divided moderate district. A former federal prosecutor, he said of Trump: “It cannot be ignored that President Trump encouraged this insurrection.” He also noted that as the riot was happening, Trump “refused to call it off, putting countless lives in danger.”
10. Rep. David Valadao, California’s 21st: The Southern California congressman represents a majority-Latino district Biden won 54% to 44%. Valadao won election to this seat in 2012 before losing it in 2018 and winning it back in the fall. He’s the rare case of a member of Congress who touts his willingness to work with the other party. Of his vote for impeachment, he said: “President Trump was, without question, a driving force in the catastrophic events that took place on January 6.” He added, “His inciting rhetoric was un-American, abhorrent, and absolutely an impeachable offense.”
The White House Press Briefings Will Include An American Sign Language Interpreter
The Biden administration announced this week that it would include an American Sign Language interpreter in its daily press briefings, a step that the previous administration avoided taking until a court ordered it to do so late last year.
The move is a “historical first,” according to Howard A. Rosenblum, the chief executive officer of the National Association of the Deaf.
Past administrations have occasionally had A.S.L. briefers at some White House events and meetings, Mr. Rosenblum said, but President Biden is the first to make it a fixture.
“The president is committed to building an America that is more inclusive, more just and more accessible for every American, including Americans with disabilities and their families,” Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, said during Monday’s briefing. She introduced the interpreter as Heather.
Last year, Mr. Rosenblum’s advocacy group and five deaf Americans sued the Trump administration for holding briefings on the coronavirus without a sign language interpreter present, arguing that it was a violation of the First Amendment.
The government responded that it had provided closed-captioning, but the plaintiffs said that was not an adequate substitute. A federal judge in Washington sided with the plaintiffs, and the Trump administration started including an interpreter in November.
Fox Gives A Show To One Former Trump Aide But Shoots Down Claims It Hired Another
Larry Kudlow, the former CNBC star who served as director of President Donald J. Trump’s National Economic Council, is returning to broadcasting.
Mr. Kudlow was named the host of a new daily show on Fox Business set to begin later this year, the network said on Tuesday. He will also appear on Fox Business and Fox News as an on-air financial analyst starting Feb. 8.
This is the first major television gig secured by a senior Trump aide who stayed in the White House until the president’s term ended last week. It is also something of a hiring coup for Fox Business, which competes against CNBC and will now feature one of its rival’s longtime featured players.
Fox said that it would provide more information about Mr. Kudlow’s new weekday program at a later date.
Mr. Kudlow’s hiring is the latest example of the revolving door between Fox News and members of the Trump administration. But another prominent Trump defender may not be headed to the Rupert Murdoch-owned network so soon.
Kayleigh McEnany, the former White House press secretary, included an “employment agreement” with Fox News on a federally mandated disclosure form she filed earlier this month, signaling that she had landed a job at the cable channel.
Fox News on Tuesday had a different message for Ms. McEnany: not so fast.
“Kayleigh McEnany is not currently an employee or contributor at Fox News,” the network said in a statement.
Ms. McEnany did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.
Democrats Weigh Next Options As Senate Republicans Filibuster Voting Rights Bill
“They don’t even want to debate it because they’re afraid. They want to deny the right to vote, make it harder to vote for so many Americans, and they don’t want to talk about it,” Schumer, D-N.Y., said on Tuesday. “There is a rot — a rot — at the center of the modern Republican party. Donald Trump’s big lie has spread like a cancer and threatens to envelop one of America’s major political parties.”
Vice President Kamala Harris, who has been tasked by the White House to work on voting rights, presided over the Tuesday debate in the Senate.
The legislation is cosponsored by 49 Democratic members of the Senate. The one holdout, Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said Tuesday he’d vote to begin debate after receiving assurances that the Senate would consider a compromise version that he has said he can support.
“Today I will vote ‘YES’ to move to debate this updated voting legislation as a substitute amendment to ensure every eligible voter is able to cast their ballot and participate in our great democracy,” Manchin said in a statement, while adding that he doesn’t support the bill as written.
“We’ll keep talking,” he said after the vote. “You can’t give up. You really can’t.”
Schumer said the vote was “the starting gun, not the finish line” in the battle over ballot access and vowed that Democrats “will not let it die.”
He told reporters on Tuesday that the state-led system held up well in the 2020 election.
It has been rejected by top Republicans as a nonstarter.
Trump Calls For ‘no Violence’ As Congress Moves To Impeach Him For Role In Riot
This time, there will be more. Some Republican senators have called on Trump to resign, and even Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he is undecided at this point.
Trump’s impeachment won’t lead to his removal — even if he is convicted — because of the timeline. The Senate is adjourned until Tuesday. The next day, Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president. But there’s another penalty the Constitution allows for as a result of a Senate conviction that could be appealing to some Republican senators — banning Trump from holding “office” again.
While there is some debate as to the definition of “office” in the Constitution and whether that would apply to running for president or even Congress, that kind of public rebuke would send a strong message — that Republicans are ready to move on from Trumpism.

Rep Tim Ryan: Probe Underway On Whether Members Gave Capitol Tours To Rioters
7. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, Washington’s 3rd: Herrera Beutler was swept in with the Tea Party wave in 2010, but her district is a moderate one. Trump won it 51% to 47%. Herrera Beutler gained prominence several years ago for giving birth to a child three months early, born without kidneys and a rare syndrome. Her daughter, Abigail, became the first to survive the often-fatal condition. The now-mother of three and congresswoman from southwest Washington state declared on the House floor her vote in favor of impeachment: “I’m not choosing sides, I’m choosing truth.”
8. Rep. Peter Meijer, Michigan’s 3rd: Meijer is a freshman, who won his seat with 53% of the vote. He represents a district that was previously held by Justin Amash, the former Republican-turned-independent who voted in favor of Trump’s impeachment in 2019. Meijer, a Columbia University grad who served in Afghanistan, is a social conservative in favor of restrictions on abortion rights and against restrictions on gun rights and religious freedoms. But he said Trump showed no “courage” and “betrayed millions with claims of a ‘stolen election.’ ” He added, “The one man who could have restored order, prevented the deaths of five Americans including a Capitol police officer, and avoided the desecration of our Capitol, shrank from leadership when our country needed it most.”

The recommendation allows any PORS member that retired prior to December 31, 2017 to return to work without a salary limitation/cap. A request for the return to work solution was presented to members of the subcommittee on Thursday, March 15, 2018 @ 9:30am in room 105 Gressette. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act: How It Helps American Workers
By Dawn Rosenberg McKay, Career Development Specialist, The Bryant Library
4/1/2020; UPDATED 4/2/2020
For the most up-to-date information on these issues, please visit: https://bryantlibrary.org/adults/job-search
During the 20+ years I have spent as a career development specialist my job has been to help people earn a living. There are two components to this. One is to help individuals find work that is enjoyable and fulfilling. The other is to make sure they can get paid for that work. If we didn’t need money, we wouldn’t have to worry about that second component.
Everyone has to be able to at least put food on the table, have a place to live, and pay the bills. Suddenly, with the arrival of coronavirus, away went the ability of many of us to earn a living. Businesses laid off or became unable to pay their workers, many people couldn’t work because they were ill or had to take care of a sick family member, and others had to be on quarantine after being exposed to COVID-19. Unfortunately, you still need to be able to put food on the table and pay at least some of your bills.
That’s where the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) comes in. President Trump signed this bipartisan law on March 27, 2020 after it was passed by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
The primary intent of CARES is to help lessen the financial hardship that many Americans are already facing and will continue to deal with during this pandemic. Among its provisions are a stimulus payment for which most people are eligible, expanded student loan relief, and expanded unemployment benefits. We’ll take a look at each of those provisions here. To learn more about CARES, here is the complete text of the law.
The Recovery Rebate
The recovery rebate, more commonly called the stimulus payment, is possibly the part of The CARES Act with which Americans are most familiar. It consists of a one-time payment of $1200 that most people will receive. Here are some things you should know about it.
How Much Will You Get?
The IRS will use your 2019 tax return, or if you didn’t file it yet, your 2018 return, to calculate how much your stimulus payment (aka recovery rebate) will be. Individuals with adjusted gross incomes* of up to $75,000 will get $1200 and married couples filing a joint return with a total adjusted gross income of up to $150,000 will get $2400.
Families will get an additional $500 for each child under 17 years of age. Payments to individuals who earned over $75,000 but no more than $99,000 will receive a reduced payment calculated on a sliding scale. The same goes for married couples who earned over $150,000 but not more than $198,000.
Individuals who file taxes as heads of household, for example single parents, will get the full amount as long as their adjusted gross income is no more than $112,500 a year. Anything above that, but only up to $136,500, will be calculated at a reduced rate on a sliding scale.
According to a decision made by the Treasury Department late on April 1, Social Security recipients who have not filed a tax return do not have to file one to receive a payment. A direct deposit will automatically be made to the account where they receive their monthly benefits.
Find out how much you’ll be getting. Use this calculator from the Washington Post.
*To find your adjusted gross income, look at Line 8b of your 2019 Federal Income Tax Return or Line 7 of your 2018 return.
Who Isn’t Eligible for the Recovery Rebate?
Not everyone will receive the stimulus payment. The CARES Act deems some people ineligible. That includes nonresident aliens, estates and trusts, and adults who can be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer. Sorry! If your parents claim you as a dependent on their tax return, which includes most people between the ages of 18 and 23, you won’t be getting a check.
If You Are Eligible, How and When Will You Get Paid?
You don’t have to do anything to apply for a payment. If you filed a 2019 tax return and provided direct deposit information, the IRS will send your money to the bank account you indicated. If you didn’t give that information, you will get a check in the mail. The IRS has announced plans to build a web-based portal that will allow taxpayers to enter updated banking information. As of this writing, it is not yet available.
Didn’t file your 2019 return yet? The deadline for filing tax returns for 2019 has been postponed from April 15 to July 15, but you can file one right now if you wish. Those with income that is below $69,000 can use a free online filing tool from the IRS. Free fillable tax forms are available for higher earners.
The IRS can also use your 2018 return to determine where to send your check. If you changed your address or bank information, try to complete your 2019 return now in order to update that information or enter it on the web-based portal when that goes live. Keep checking the IRS Coronavirus Relief page for an announcement but keep in mind that the government, even in calmer times, moves at a glacial pace. You will probably be able to get your 2019 return filed faster than the IRS will get that tool up and running.
As for when you will see your payment, Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin has said that most people can expect to receive their direct deposits by April 17. The IRS has also stated it will mail a paper notice to recipients a few weeks after payment is made.
Expanded Unemployment Insurance Benefits
While getting your recovery rebate requires little effort on your part, accessing the expanded unemployment insurance (UI) benefits provisions of the CARES Act will be more of an endeavor. You will have to apply to receive benefits, but if you are eligible, you’ll receive them.
What is Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)
Pandemic Unemployment Assistant expands unemployment insurance benefits to individuals who are not entitled to regular UI benefits such as independent contractors, have a limited work history, or are self-employed, as well as others. Anyone who meets the following criteria qualifies for PUA:
Has the illness or has a household member who does
Is caring for someone with COVID-19
Can’t get to work because of a quarantine related to the public health emergency
Has children who can’t attend school or another facility because of closures due to COVID-19
Quit their job because of COVID-19
Has become the major breadwinner because the head of the household died from COVID-19
Can’t start a new job as scheduled because of the COVID-19 public health emergency
Can’t work because their employer is closed due to the COVID-19 public health emergency
Workers who employers will pay to do their jobs remotely or who are on sick leave or other paid leave do not qualify for PUA.
What You Need to Know About UI Benefits
Your regular benefit amount will be based on your recent earnings but in New York State will not exceed the maximum amount of $504.
Everyone who qualifies for UI benefits or PUA will receive $600 per week in addition to their regular benefit amount until July 31, 2020.
All UI benefits recipients, including those who qualify for PUA, will receive an extra 13 weeks of unemployment insurance benefits beyond the normal 26 weeks. This means you can receive a total of 39 weeks of benefits. Anyone who exhausted their benefits after July 1, 2019 can apply for the extra weeks of coverage.
If you qualify for PUA, there will be no waiting period after you are approved to receive UI benefits. You will begin receiving them as soon as they are processed.
Partial benefits may be available to workers whose hours were reduced due to COVID-19, as well as to part-time workers. You must work less than four days a week and earn $504 or less.
How to Apply for UI Benefits in New York State
As you might imagine, many people are trying to apply for UI benefits right now. If you are currently receiving benefits, you don’t have to do anything other than continue to certify weekly. The NYS Department of Labor requests that you DO NOT CALL since it will tie up the lines for those who are filing initial claims. You are automatically eligible for the expanded benefits as provided by the CARES Act.
Those who are not currently receiving benefits will have to file a claim. Remember that this is also for individuals who are not eligible for traditional UI benefits. Please read the section on PUA above to see if you are eligible and check the PUA page on the Department of Labor website.
File your claim online by going to labor.ny.gov/signin/. This is preferable to calling but if you don’t have internet access, call 1-888-209-8124. There are reports that it takes quite a while to get through. The NYS Department of Labor is taking calls six days a week: Monday through Saturday. Patience is required.
Those filing a claim may do so based on their last name as follows:
A-F: Monday
G-N: Tuesday
O-Z: Wednesday
Missed your day? File Thursday-Saturday
People who live in New York but worked in another state should file their claims in the state where they were last employed. While New York was fairly quick to put a plan in place to help people file PUA claims once The CARES Act went into effect, other states have been slower to respond. If you worked in multiple states, please contact the NYS Department of Labor for help with filing. Be prepared to wait a long time for assistance if you call. Please see careeronestop for links to unemployment benefit information in other states.
Expanded Student Loan Relief
Student loan payments are often a burden for both recent and not so recent college grads during normal times. It’s the last thing you want to have to worry about during this crisis. The legislators recognized this when writing the CARES Act. If you are paying back a federal student loan, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Your loan won’t be among your worries for now.
There will be automatic payment suspensions until September 30, 2020. Remember, this doesn’t apply to loans from state or private lenders although they may have similar suspensions in place. You will not accrue interest on your federal student loan during the suspension period. Keep an eye out for a notice from your loan servicer. You will also receive additional notices after August 1 as the suspension period draws to a close.

Per Diem VS Contract Nursing
Per-Diem:
How does choose your very own routine, never ever functioning a weekend break, never ever functioning vacation audio to you? If this seems excellent, after that per diem nursing might be for you. Furthermore, with per-diem nursing, there are no "minimal demands" for the variety of changes you require to function. Another benefit of this kind of nursing can be the capacity to jump right into greater than one medical facility system with marginal handling. This last benefit just uses if the firm you are with has lots of area customers that have a lot of registered nurse tasks offered. This is something team contingent registered nurses are just unable to do. The most significant negative aspect is that if the demographics go down or the brand-new team is employed the per diem registered nurse is the initial terminated. Therefore most registered nurses that function per diem are seeking side changes or simply some additional job. If you are Per Diem in a huge healthcare facility system (demographics changes affect big medical facilities much less) lots of Per Diem registered nurses can obtain a regular permanent job if they are adaptable in their organizing accessibility.
Contract:
Contract registered nurses are created for registered nurses that need to function and also preserve full-time hrs and/or advantages. Hospitals/facilities will certainly ensure hrs offered to get registered nurses (some might have really rigorous termination limitations). For the ensured hrs, centers might request for a weekend break and/or vacation dedications. In nearly all situations, personnel registered nurses are terminated prior to an agreement registered nurse. Agreements ensure full-time hrs as well as generally run 4, 8, 13 or in many cases 26 weeks in period. As soon as an agreement is finished the registered nurse is cost-free to take some time off. Can you think of a team registered nurse informing their manager: "I'm heading to Hawaii tomorrow as well as will certainly be back in 2 months. Do me support as well as hold my setting."? I do not require to inform you that the opportunities for this taking place are slim to none.
In the agreement nursing globe, this is their fact. Some registered nurses are frightened regarding when the agreement finishes. Are they unemployed? The brief response is: extremely seldom. With the nursing scarcity currently playing out, there are several registered nurses that have actually been running agreements for years in the exact same center. The greatest downside to agreement nursing exists is an assumption the registered nurse will certainly dedicate to the changes similarly the center staff members do. Abort is discredited. It is taken into consideration appropriate decorum for a registered nurse to use to comprise a change if the registered nurse should take an ill day. The various other downside exists is usually a 2-weekend break a month dedications. Furthermore, in some-- yet not all -situations there might be some vacation dedications.

Up Close & Personal with Constant Tourist Travel’s Lila Fox
If you don’t already know the founder of Constant Tourist Travel, a NOLA based leisure and adventure travel agency, then you must get to know her! Lila Fox is a travel guru with the best connections, taste and advice who can make all your vacation dreams come true. Ever since she gave my sister and me a picture-perfect Grecian holiday itinerary, I’ll never plan a trip without her help. Our recent conversation will give you a glimpse into what it’s like to travel with Lila as your guide.
TM: Where are the best destinations you’re sending clients in 2017? LF: Italy and Greece continue to be at the front of mind for travelers, but I’m also seeing an uptick in requests for casual wine + beach in Portugal (great value!) and chic city + safari in South Africa. Croatia is coming back around after a quiet spell, and Japan is gaining interest. Domestically, it’s all about Napa for special occasions and immersive tours through the Southwest for families. TM: I have a hard time condensing all the reasons that working with you is such a game-changer. Can you help me explain the advantages you provide your clients? LF: Primarily – time & money. I save clients time by handling the logistics of a trip – whether business or leisure – which frees them up to focus on the other important bits in their life. I also save folks money because of the value-added amenities that come along with the hotel reservations that have my agency’s name attached to them. Not to mention just knowing more efficient and effective ways to go about stringing a trip together. And then there’s also just the idea sharing. I’m constantly traveling and in communication with hoteliers across the world so I have my finger on what’s out there for even the most specific of needs.
TM: How are you able to offer preferred status and amenities to your clients? LF: My agency is affiliated with Virtuoso, a global consortia of the tip-top hotel brands (think: The Ritz Carlton, Rosewood, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental), privately owned hotels and resorts, tour operators and cruise lines in the world. My affiliation allows me the ability to pass along unpublished rates and property-specific complimentary amenities such as daily breakfast, Wi-Fi, spa & dining credits, airport transfers, and the like
TM: Does it cost more to get these add-ons? LF: No! My agency is not a “planning fee” based agency so for the majority of what I’m assisting folks with, I do not charge a fee. Most people are shocked to hear that, which is why I’m happily and completely transparent about how I’m compensated.
I’m compensated by hotels and suppliers on the back-end of all trips, which is a percentage of the total sale. There are instances where I do charge fees – airline tickets because we’re monitoring flights during travel, itineraries without hotel reservations, or time-consuming arrangements like Napa itineraries with winery appointments and dining reservations.
TM: How far in advance do you recommend clients contact you before their trip? LF: Ideally I’d like about six months advance planning, but sometimes we can get away with much less, depending on destination and time of year. I never shy away from the phone call or email about a trip “leaving tomorrow!” Those are some of the most rewarding, when I call in friends and hoteliers to make something happen in a pinch.
TM: What makes a vacation truly unique? LF: Right now I’m planning a trip involving a luxury overnight train from Verona Italy to London England aboard Belmond’s Orient Express. The couple could have flown between the two cities in a flash, but they purposefully allowed time for such a unique, elegant journey. Little switches like that are the things that will remain in minds decades from now. I love different vantage points, so I recommend injecting portions of an itinerary with a train, helicopter, or boat experience. I think it’s important to allow yourself the ability to really see what a place and culture are about once you step away from the more toured areas. That’s why I recommend unplanned time to explore. Three nights is generally my rule of thumb in any one spot – more in certain places, and if I can convince my clients!
TM: What’s the most unique trip you’ve ever planned? LF: Last year I had an adventurous New York City couple come to me for Asia and didn’t constrain me much with time or money. So I got out the map and strung together a lovely journey that had them starting out in Abu Dhabi with mosques and dinners in the desert, followed by some time in Laos before flying them to Phnom Penh in order to board the Aqua Expeditions vessel that would sail from Cambodia into Vietnam. I could have kept them at a nice hotel in Phnom Penh, but knowing their love for boating, I thought that the 3-night / 4-day experience by water would be right up their alley. Once they arrived in Vietnam I slowed them down a bit with a stay at the remote beach resort Amanoi. It was such a hit that they called me mid-stay to cancel the next leg of their journey (which would have been Bangkok) in order to spend more time relaxing together on the beach. I shuffled things on my end, and once they had their fill of the seaside, I flew them back to Cambodia in order to have them experience Angkor Wat by helicopter with a leading Archeologist as their guide!
TM: What’s the most memorable meal you’ve ever had on a vacation, and why was it so special? LF: While traveling through Japan with a girlfriend, we heard about a restaurant called Shoraian hidden in the forest on the outskirts of Kyoto. It took us some time and many wrong turns through parks and woods, but we eventually found it—tiny, picturesque, and high above a cyan colored river. We were the only Westerners in the place, which we took as a good sign. We had 11 small courses served over about 4 hours, each with one featuring tofu made by local Buddhist monks. We couldn’t communicate with words, just smiles and nods, connecting over food around a table thousands of miles from anything that was familiar to us. I still remember everything about that experience, and tell everyone going to Kyoto that they must dine there as well, because to me it was about as close to personifying ‘travel’ as it gets.
TM: Do you have a favorite hotel lobby on the planet? Why? LF: I’m really into the un-lobby if that’s a term. I love a hotel that is really unassuming from the outside, where you could almost walk past it if you didn’t know it was there. Then once you step inside it’s a complete surprise with killer style and sense of place. J.K. Place Roma in Rome and Soniat House in New Orleans are favorite arrival experiences for these reasons.
TM: Any new hotels we should be looking out for over the next few years? LF: I’m probably most excited about Amanyangyun in Shanghai slated to open end of 2017 just outside of the city in a forest. Ming- and Qing-dynasty structures are being reassembled using original materials to create the spaces. I love ‘town and country’ trips, so I’d recommend pairing a stay here with a stay in bustling downtown Shanghai in order to get a full flavor of a destination is what I love to give travelers.
Now that you know Lila, give her a call. August is just about six months away, the perfect month to leave town. Will you sample the monks’ tofu in Kyoto, sail from Cambodia to Vietnam, or have Lila plan something even more imaginative for you?

McCalla, Christine Ann’s Attempt At Leveraging Equities In The Doctoral College’s Environment Columbia Southern University: Thwarting Murder, by McCalla, Christine Ann
To: Interpol and variations thereof
From: McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof
Re: Brandmeir’s inability to understand and appreciate how crimes of an unnecessary are committed
Date: February 19, 2018
In regards to my report filed earlier this morning, it appears to Brandmeir that his encouragement and facilitation of criminal activities does not go unnoticed or unperceived by the matured student and one at the doctoral level.
It appears Brandmeir’s email has been duplicated in which duplicate copies are being forwarded to numerous persons. He refers to a DL-Blackholes and I am unware of that person being that I merely responded all to his email. I do not know this person but it is an indication that unauthorized persons have access to student’s correspondence and files violating privacy regulation, antitrust and monopolization statutes, and the oath of the government official. Since Brandmeir is unaware of the calibre of his conduct, I believe it is best that he sees my way of thinking via statutes and those violated.
Also attached is his response including that of BL-Blackholes.

My comments from my earlier correspondence are as follows with the relevant statute violations as I have now officially submitted notice to CSU’s registrar regarding withdrawal.
Correct me if I am wrong as I seem unable to identify the deficiencies I have in Doctoral Orientation. My discussion presented an in-depth discussion on the dissertation process in my post to the professor's posting/discussion including the, (1) analysis of ProQuest’s Database in which a doctoral dissertation written by Nowlin’s (2018) Incorporating stakeholder input into financial decision making in california school districts was presented; (2) given with the provision of Nowlin reference, the doctoral dissertation requested was provided. My representation was present and was not validated means I am free to initiate plagiarism and infringements as I see fit. This is a failure of Department of Education to provide me with the quality of education required at the Doctoral level - an infringement;
STATUTE VIOLATED -
(3) Nowlin's dissertation was retrieved from ProQuest's dissertation database and not the traditional database. In that my obligation and burden towards Columbia Southern University have been met as required and instructed; (4) It is inappropriate for my doctoral professor at my university to direct me to infringe upon other elements as vital Department of Education's resources and suggest identity theft as it is the only way to access additional dissertation databases not provided my university library. I am a legitimate student at Columbia Southern. I expect to be provided with any and all resources necessary from them and not some other illegitimate resources resulting in civil and criminal penalties. In other words, Columbia Southern University does not tell me to seek references from universities other than its own; (5) Your reference of deterrence in participation in a cooperative learning activity is quite discouraging. The act of conference participation is a peer learning activity. To this you specified, "No need to analyze or comment on others or event the dissertation, just yes or no but could be useful." Again, another Department of Education failure/deficiency. (6) Your feedback of, "Accusations are not appropriate in discussion boards." It is clear to see how this comment came in with. (a) my Al Khatib to Khatib fraudulent infringement resulting in academic violation; grader's response . Grader response Delete: “Al Khatib, A. S. (2014). Time management and its relation to students' stress, gender and academic a…” Grader response Add: “Khatib, A. S. (2014). Time management and its relation to students' stress, gender and academic achi…” (2) the comments regarding my grammar, citation formatting, and presentation of personality including those of a nonsensical manner, the lack of representation and presentation of faculty at a doctoral level including, lack of introduction being it is way too long and needs to be concise; Which means what? Look up sesquipedalian. It is alleged sesuipedalian, applied to the phrase in my paper discernment of the DBA program, is a term reserved for Department of Education and not for students which you fail to appreciate. Furthermore, according to dictionary.com, the definition of sesuipedalian is, (1) given to using long words, 2. (of a word) containing many syllables. noun 3. a sesquipedalian word. How discernment becomes using long words and containing many syllables as defined by dictionary.com is a reflection of Department of Education. Hopefully with time, they will see the err. The representation in my paper, "This reflection paper demands discernment of the DBA program including the objectives of the program, the expectation by the school and society, characteristics / attributes of success in the program, areas of development and growth, and the consequences of time management application within the DBA students personal life. The desire to be conferred upon as a DBA must reflect the diligence, commitment, and discipline required to achieve said accolade." is met with the comment This sentence is useless, the paper does not demand (anthropomorphism perhaps). Not sure where you found this list but just make no sense. Dictionary.com defines anthromorphism as an anthropomorphic conception or representation, as of a deity. Anthropomorphic, dictionary.com, means ascribing human form or attributes to a being or thing not human, especially to a deity. 2. resembling or made to resemble a human form... As for my week 1 rewrite, I was met with the comment of This paper is supposed to be a personal reflection and it is not – not sure why you insist on all the extra materials instead of your own thinking. If you spent the time writing the paper correctly, and a little less on compiling references that are not needed, you could resolve some of the writing issues. The references are nice for a doctoral level effort, but in this case, overdone. Overdone and yet my grade for week 1 was 70.5%. American Psychological Association (2010) appreciates the benefits on reliances on prior studies to advance theories. American Psychological Association (2010) argues successfully, 1.03 Theoretical Articles In theoretical articles, authors draw on existing research literature to advance theory. Literature reviews and theoretical articles are often similar in structure, but theoretical articles present empirical information only when it advances a theoretical issue. Authors of theoretical articles trace the development of theory to expand and refine theoretical constructs or present a new theory or analyze existing theory, pointing out flaws or demonstrating the advantage of one theory over another. For a doctoral feedback to be contesting the focus on the reliance on prior studies including appropriate citation management in favor of unsupported originality creates a substantial problem for me. There were also comments such as Transfer or incorporate – pedagogical concepts on prior learning do not seem to apply here, Do you mean the ability to strategize, You don’t understand copyrighting so not sure why you are putting this in here, Requires mentoring?, The department of education has nothing to do with this – what are you writing about here., Students don’t exerts so what are you saying?, Do not have consequences to attributes – so what are you saying... A DBA degree is considered a practitioner's degree with encouragements to reliance on prior knowledge and skills, but since this doctoral orientation and I overdo with references none will be provided here.
