Hyper niche question for my autism warrior: What was the perception of aide-de-camps during the AmRev like? I assume it would be viewed as a softer position - though of course, the extent would vary depending who your CO was - but many did see action and a few were reassigned so they could fight

Hey y’all��� how y’all doing… i know its been yet another period of many moons since ive posted or answered (i hope this information is still relevant btw), but ive had a lot going on with getting a job, finding colleges, my mommy issues, travel, etc. anyway, im back, and im here to tell you about my main men

It actually was not viewed as a softer position at all! The station of aide-de-camp was highly desirable for several reasons, which i will describe approximately right now

1) people had to compliment you a LOT to get in

Most of the results I got from my research on this ask were letters of recommendation for potential aides-de-camp. Letters of recommendation were high honors for any station, especially for that of a military capacity. According to my favorite source on the American Revolution (which you should know by now), George Washington’s Indispensable Men by Arthur S. Lefkowitz, it was practically impossible to get a job as an aide-de-camp if you did not have a widely positive reputation or a letter of recommendation from someone reputable (or both if you wanted to clerk for the Commander-in-Chief).

I found one letter of recommendation from j*hn ad*ms that i think serves as a very good example of the sort of statements that could land you a seat at a Continental officer’s writing desk:

“There is another Gentleman of liberal Education and real Genius, as well as great Activity, who I find is a Major in the Army; his Name is Jonathan Williams Austin. I mention him, sir, not for the Sake of recommending him to any particular Favour, as to give the General an opportunity of observing a youth of great abilities, and of reclaiming him from certain Follies, which have hitherto, in other Departments of Life obscurd him.”

-John Adams to George Washington, June 19-20, 1775, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Founders Online, Washington Papers)

Those are my italics btw. These compliments are carefully chosen to suit the honor culture that was so pervasive throughout the 18th century and first half of the 19th century. A liberal education at the time was very hard to come by, and would be of great importance in a clerical position. Great activity also helps, because you dont want some lazy ass writing to Congress under your name, or god forbid George Washington himself, you might get hung (not really). The mention of youth is also intentional, since young men have always been preyed upon by the military. I think it’s especially noteworthy the final phrase of “reclaiming him from certain Follies”, which indicates that he might have previously had a negative reputation- whether it was warranted or not, im not sure.

2) the pay was fucking fire

For this we’re going to be utilizing my super amazing math scores that im renown for throughout the math community (yall dont know about my math tumblr), and we’re going to be using Alexander Hamilton as our lab rat, as per usual.

Alexander Hamilton joined Washington’s staff in early 1777 where a regular aide-de-camp (not a military secretary) made $33 dollars a month, which averages to about $1.10 a day. Meanwhile, according to the University of Missouri, the highest paid laborer in Massachusetts in the same year made $0.50 a day, which is about $15 a month, others making as little as about $0.22 a day, so around $7 a month. If you’re looking for ratios, by the end of the war, a pound of raisins was around $0.30. So, the highest paid Massachusetts laborer could save up every paycheck from 1777 to 1782 and buy 324 pounds of raisins, and Alexander fucking Hamilton could waltz up next to him and buy 712.8 pounds of raisins and rub it in his sad, poor face. And he wouldn’t even share because he was a congressman by that time and congressmen HATE THE POOR.

Disclaimer: Hamilton’s numbers dont include the time he quit the office bc I didn’t feel like googling how long he was away for and also i dont care. And yeah he probably would share his raisins with the guy, Hamilton was pretty nice, but i dont think he’d buy 712.8 pounds of raisins in Massachusetts anyway. Or maybe he would, I dont fucking know, stop asking me questions

3) it gave you a lot of street cred

There are many instances of aides-de-camps rising to higher status after their service, but i dont give a fuck about those nerds going into politics and law and stuff.

Most people now only know about Washington’s aides (or if you’re really autistic you know Lafayette’s too), but at the time, being an ADC to any general would get you fairly well known in society. General Sullivan’s aides seem to have been pretty well known and admired, as they are frequently mentioned in John Adams’ correspondence with other congressmen, as well as that of Benjamin Franklin with French diplomats all the way across the Atlantic.

But I imagine you’re also wondering (or at least i am) about what the everyday enlisted man thought of the ADCs, and that answer doesn’t really change. Of course, the men sitting out in the rain and mud without food for the past week are going to be envious of the guys who get to sleep in a house, but their quarters weren’t the most comfortable either. Aides-de-camp were probably the most connected out of the disconnected officers, if that makes sense. They weren’t fraternizing with the enlisted, but they were seen by them more frequently than the generals, and they were the ones advocating for the needs of the enlisted men. Even if they didn’t have any battle experience whatsoever (which really was never the case, i cant think of an aide who WOULDNT have seen battle), they would still be respected by the men as hardworkers and the only people who might actually get them food and clothes.

I really enjoyed researching it and my family had a great time joking about me hunched over my ipad reading through the national archives while we all watched jeopardy, misspelling like every other word because its hard to type on an ipad. And his death was so tragic. In Waterloo, he had made a fatal mistake with the cavalry, and he decides here that he will die. We don’t know exactly what happened here. Did he have so much PTSD from russia and years of war that he made such a stupid mistake (AA ALSO AFTER the disaster of russia campaign he isolated himself so much. Poor man🥺)? But one thing’s for sure, this man wasn’t a coward. The Bravest of the Brave was not a man who’d mess up in the war and just run away. On those grassy fields, Ney tried everything to get his men’s attention and when all hope seemed lost he shouted in the faces of the enemies “See how a marshal of France meets his death!” It seems in that moment his greatest want was to be killed by english bullets. But Victor Hugo recounts this and adds the ironic line of “Unhappy man, thou wert reserved for French bullets!”

You were and still somewhat are a member of task force 141 but you took a break to finish school, you tried not to let anyone know you were graduating though, wanted to keep it to yourself. Well, Captain Price was told his team member had accomplished their uni work and gathered his men around. "right, so I just had word our dear r/n graduates tomorrow night"

''what? why didnt they tell us this?"

''dont know son, all I know is we are flying over there tonight and surprising them, got it?"

All the men nod. In 10 hours time, they had arrived at your city, excited to finally see you accomplish such big task. They knew there was a reason you didn't bother to tell them, but they were not going to let this moment pass. You and your mates all gathered around, started to chant the schools anthem. Soon the ceremony started. The four men dressed in suits, all holding a bouquet of flowers (yes anyone no matter the gender deserves flowers!). Gaz and soap had printed out your face in a hug cardboard and waited for your time. Ghost had some balloons and Price had this cute teddy, military dressed just like you and with its little cap and gown over it.

The ceremony was long, but to them it was worth the wait. Soap had sneaked in a cowbell and Gaz sneaked in a small little drum.

They all watched as everyone passed by with their respective little papers. Then the dean of your University called names, the men eagerly at the edge of their seats. "R/N ,R/L/N" the dean said.

Soap hitting the cowbell, Gaz with the drums. Price yelling your name and clapping, Ghost whistling real hard. As you walked to stage and shake the hands of the people up there, you turned bright red, trying to hide your huge smile. Once you were walking down the stairs, you looked to where the noise came from. The men all waved at you, Soap and Gaz waving the huge cardboard head cutouts.

You took your seat, the men were shushed by some other parents.

''Oh you shush it, that's my little soldier down there.'' Price said.

''Yes sir, shush it.'' soap said.

''thats my mum you bastard''

The men in unison said ''thats a woman?!''

For the rest of the ceremony, the men called your name and whistled. Once you were named the class of 2023. the all stood up and cheered you on.

''THATS OUR LITTLE SOLDIER!!!!'' Price yelled as he also recorded the whole thing, wanted to remember this huge day forever.

- at least dont do it somewhere its  noticeable - grumbled felix

- babe, darling, felix we are in a simulation - vortex lifted his head from his neck to look at him

- i know but its the...- felix was about to say when suddently there was a knock on the door

- AAauurrg -vortex maoned in frustation his chance to get down with the one pilot he actually liked ruined

- who is it? - felix ignored vortexes grumbling

- can i come in? - said a voice he never heard before

The door to their imaginary lab opened a man that looked to be in his late 20s possibly early 30s steped in his imaginary lab he was wearing a different version of the pilot suit he and tex were wearing instead of something custon made for the pilot that matched the mech they were piloting his was much more a blend of a standard military uniform with a space suit in the colors of faded red and blue

- umm hello...? - said the man noticing what he had just walked into

- uuuuuhhh, hello? Who are you? - asked first aid not expecting anyone else to be in this dream world

After he woke up here he found out the intire building was empty save for the lab that had a fresh quint and vortex in it after some piecing together of memories it was easy to conclude that this was a simulation made by shockwave to get them distracted while he finalized whatever the hell he was doing in the real world

- my name is orion, im looking for shockwave? - said orion with a small frown

- shockwave? Hes not here thank god -vortex said said with a hint of anoyance still hugging first aid

- oh ok, do you at least know where he is? - asked orion disapointed

- no im sorry - said first aid confused - why are you looking for him?

- Oh, we where having tea, he said he forgot something in his lab and went to pick it up but he has not come back yet, im starting to get worried

In turn the couple was also getting more confused shockwave was a pilot but he hadnt piloted in a long looong while not after the incident that took out his arm

- oh, uuuhh its 201x - said orion wondering why that question had been asked

- huh? - was the only thing he said

- how, how thats thats not possible - said the con man watching swerve go from robot to some kind of car then back to robot

While swindle was having his perception of cars thrown upside down blurr was laughing at him

- you stop that, when were you gonna tell me that swerve of all people was secretly an alien car - huffed swindle

- hahasssorry swin we were gonna tell, but then swerve got captured, i tried to free him and now look at where we are - blurr was breathing deeply trying to stop laughing and only being partially successfull

- ok ok talking about swerve jUst WHAT  WHAT ??? - swindle felt like he was losing his mind one moment he was in his office the next he was in a grassy field with blurr and an alien that turned into a car

- yes? - replied prowl pausing his explanation of why he thought caling the human galaxy the milky way was stupid

Oh boy, oh no please dont go into shock- thought first aid as he and vortex fineshed explaining everything to orion his face was horrorfied his eyes wide

- oh indeed, but something that i wanted to ask if you were having tea with shockwave how were you able to get here to us, first aid here already ran through the entire building and there is no exit? - vortex said curious

- i, i dont know truth be told i just went looking for shockwave and opned the same door he went out in and started walking and thats how i got here - said orion honestly

- can you do it again, can you take us with you? - asked felix his voice getting more excited

- um, i dont know maybe? - orion said turning back to the door he had walked in

He walked closer to it, first aid and vortex did too orionnopned the grabed first aid and vortex and jumped into the void below

Shockwave was by orions bed looking at him sleeping so peacefully it had been a while since shockwave had last visited orion on the real world he generaly just made sure the simation ran okay so that orion would have something to do while in the coma but his trip to the simulation inspired him to do this he grabed orions hand and gave it a small kiss, he fluffed his pilows played with his hair bit and then went back to work, he almost finishing orions new body just a few tweaks and the matrix and orion would be his again

I like to think Peter had a backpack on him with all his important stuff. He probably knew that they wouldnt be returning to the base so he made the effort to pack a bag with his stuff and maybe some of the others things. The others probably made one too with their things but not as big as Peters bag since he can hold more without feeling strained and cause hes sentimental like that.

I can see Bucky making a quick military bag with only the basics so Peter has to pack some of his stuff into his. He dosent mind.

With this in Mind, Here a list of whats in Peters backpack.

-A DVD set of the original Star Wars Trilogy, The Prequels and TFA. (He dosent like thinking about TLJ)

-A hand held Videocamera and a Photography camera, each in their own protective cases

-Noise canceling headphones

-A small comic book colletion he maneged to build through out the months (Old Penut strips, missalanious incomplet comics, a decent Invincible collection and the Walking dead lol)

- His laptop with all of his Zombie research and saved videos and pictures hes taken during to 8 months

- A photo album he maneged to get in his on his one and only visit to his apartment. It has old pictures of May, Ben and his parents when they were younger. Some kid photos of himself with them and somemore recent ones with May and Ned. He had been adding a few more photos of other people that he finds online and with the others during their time together. Its nice to have a fisical memory of them

-One of May's sweaters that he also snaged

-Bens Watch. He dosent wear it, he just has it

-His Fathers glasses. Same with Ben, He dosent wear them, but its nice to have them

-A plushie his mother made for him as a child that somehow is still around

- An Ironman glove he stole frim of of the suits

- A crappy busted gameboy he found that he frankinstined into being able to have like 200 games hacked into it

- A hacked Ipod with like 10000 songs he downloded onto it on a whim at 3a.m the night before

-A Few notebooks filled with a mad mans rambling and formulas on anything and everything, not trustung his laptop after it deleted all his data a few months before

-Miscellaneous bits of Tech stolen from here and there and a box filled with the chemicals for his web fluids

-Couple of his and Buckys clothes so that they dont have to only be wearing their suits

-One of Bucky Jackets Peter knows he likes and would regret leaving behind

-A few of books Bucky has gathers in their time together

-A box of plain Ramen cups and bags of spices for the ones with that need to eat more

-Just a bag of stray candy

-A supersolder friendly med kit made for him and Bucky after one to many incedents

- A water filter and gas mask for the more toxic areas

-A Knife Bucky left behind

-His ID just incase something happend to him and he needed to be identifyed

-A few thousand dollers Krut and him took for funzzies one time while looking for food. He dosent need it, but his they somehow ended up is somekind of civilication, he wants to have some money on him for everyone

-The hat that was part of his Indiana Jones costume

-An extra thick bedroll Hope made him pack

-And last but not least his shitty phone that only last him like 3 hours

He tried putting everything into his normal backpack, but Happy forced him into using a bigger one that wouldnt break and helped play tetriz with everything

i just wanted to ask something as a person with no dating experience whatsoever, but i do think jikook have something diff from others, if assuming they are in a relationship/situationship/or whatever jikook style thing, statements like how jm said he was called uncle in the sgmb behinds etc, and how he talked about wanting a daughter etc (i know this to some people would seem as they are not together at all, etc, but i feel like teh daughter thing is everyone has thought of that at least ones about kids before even settling down or whatever, but again idk) and how they were not in touch for months etc, this proves they dont live together or get together that often, or talk about stuff that often. But assuming they do have something going on, something that suits them, do you have any idea how that would work or look like? or maybe you know someone in a similar situation (again i know that each person is diff so cant compare, but just wondering, how would this work then?)

I don’t understand the question? Them talking about stuff the other may not know, is normal. Something happened at work, Jimin told JK about it. That’s not that odd to me, personally.

As for the kid thing, I’m pretty sure they’ve talked about kids plenty off camera. The members have brought it up multiple times over the years, and in the past it’s usually something they unnecessarily freak out about and change the topic on. So I would imagine the number of and gender of child Jimin wants is not actually a surprise to Jungkook.

I also don’t think they were completely out of touch, but weren’t as close as they were used to being. So whatever they were going through was their business, and while I have my speculations, I don’t think viewing that timeframe as something specific is possible. Because we don’t know what happened, so we don’t know what emotions they had regarding each other during that time. Meaning it’s not possible to really assume they did or didn’t have certain conversations about things that we ourselves would consider serious partner stuff.

If they are dating, they have their own way of dealing with things within their relationship. If they’re not, they have their own way of dealing with their dynamic that differs from the ones they have with other members. I think it’s clear they don’t live together as well, but prior to their group hiatus, they were seeing each other damn near every second of everyday, so it didn’t matter. Now, they presumably still see each other everyday during work in the military. They will also share vacation days, so it can be assumed them not sharing a house still doesn’t yet matter. Their lives are not normal, so they aren’t going to navigate a relationship the same way as most people would expect.

I'm kinda obsessed with the thought of Sole going to the glowing sea all alone. They couldn't possibly ask anyone else to come there with them, not when they know the risks. So they go alone. One night they and their companion go to sleep only for the companion to wake up alone with a note (or a holotape) next to them explaining where Sole had went, what they planned to do.

Sole knows it's near suicide to go there, alone or not, they won't let anyone but themselves to take that risk

The synths and robots aren't immune to deathclaws, the rest are at risk of radiation poisoning and deathclaws, and frankly they don't want to risk Hancock going feral just because they dragged him in there, so they go alone

Maybe the companions go after them only for them to get to the edge of the sea just as Sole is coming back

Waking up…feeling that emptiness beside her that she was so used to…sole’s absence didn’t even alert her at first. She was so used to being alone.

Now, frantically, she searched around their shred room in sanctuary, before finding a holotape hidden between some detective cases on sole’s personal desk.

When she heard…in sole’s own voice say not to follow them…and that they love her…her breathing became shallow and fast.

Screw what sole says, they aren’t leaving her behind.

(Basically running like the flint Lockwood meme) she makes it to the edge of the Glowing Sea. She forgot most of her gear and was basically just clutching a few bags of radaway

Looking beyond the mess of fog and broken trees, she sees a massive form…

…more specifically the shape of power armor.

“Sole! You bastard!”

She’s crying as sole steps out of the power armor…collapsing onto the ground…coughing up blood and gasping for air.

She gladly tosses Sole all of her Radaway…basically pouring it down their throat.

When sole wakes up…against a tree nearby..Cait is punching their arm…asking them why…why they would leave alone…that there could have been another way.

Sole knows the truth though, it had to be them.

• Curie

In her new body…she was so used to sleeping next to sole…feeling their warmth…now gone suddenly.

She jolts awake, quickly feeling herself go cold…even colder when she saw the private note written to her.

She figured as much, she calculated it. They were gone…most likely out there…suffering or even…dead.

Quickly, she gathered a supply of stimpacks and radaway from their shared home and took off towards the Glowing Sea.

…seeing them…at the edge of the sea…collapsed next to a suit of power armor…she thought it might have been too late.

She wasn’t strong enough to draw them away by herself so she utilized the power armor

Once out of the danger zone, she began stimming them and inserting the Radaway into their veins.

Hearing them cough and moan in pain nearly broke her heart. She payed on top of them in exhaustion, having rested for the first time since she set out for them.

Sole will drag their arm over her form…thinking about all the pain they just put her through and having to remember that there was no other way.

…the only other way would’ve meant losing her.

And they just couldn’t risk that.

• Danse

Danse is a military man. Waking up alone had never bothered him before.

He didn’t wake up immediately. When he did awake, he didn’t even put together that sole had went to the Glowing Sea

But that damn holotape…

He wasn’t sad…he was angry…he could’ve grabbed a suit and followed him

He’s a damn synth he should be able to handle more radiation. He should…he…

“SHIT”

Danse grabs a supply bag for himself and for sole before leaving their homestead.

The trek was long…but Danse prayed it wouldn’t be too long.

Reaching the edge of the glowing sea…he saw them. Their damn near lifeless form nearby a suit of tattered power armor

A deathclaw had gotten to it

“God no…no no no…sole…”

He easily carried them out of the irradiated area and into an abandoned home…laying them on a bed full of dried blood.

He felt them breathing and instantly got hit with adrenaline…he quickly gave them Stimpacks and Radaway. Then, he just sat nearby in silence and prayed silently to whatever deity would listen.

When they awoke..he’d be right there…his eyelids heavy but soles safety was much more important.

He’d never watch them die…never…not like this…

…he knew it would always be him first.

• Deacon

Being alone for so long…he wondered why he woke up so fast…noticing the warmth next to him gone.

“Christ, no”

He already knew though. He already knew…even without the handwritten note next to his pillow…

He couldn’t even bring himself to read it. He was so…upset? He basically threw it away.

He didn’t even try to make sense of his emotions as he gathered a heap of railroad supplies to track them down with.

His mind was racing with thoughts he couldn’t make sense of the whole trip…they couldn’t just leave him like this…even if it WAS because they cared.

Coming to the edge of the sea…he spotted them.

They were covered in blood…power armor long abandoned.

He wasn’t a hugger, but literally forced them into his arms…not even caring about how heavily irradiated they were.

Pulling them against him and out of the Glowing Sea, he applied what he brought with him…bringing them out of their pain and suffering.

“Don’t ever do that again…I…Dez…someone could have helped you…don’t leave me behind here.”

Sole had to go though…they knew they had the best chance…and they could risk loosing the only man in this whole damn wasteland with hope.

The only man…who they loved.

• Gage

“Shit…”

He already knew when he woke up.

He knew sole was a damn hard head and this just proved it…

“Leaving alone to protect some damn raider?” He said aloud as he read sole’s note to him.

He was pissed that sole would not take him with them…he could have protected them…

It’s not even worth it to go out there alone…there has to be another way…there just had to be…

He’d gather up a few supplies before storming off…prepared to give sole a earful

However…when he found them…laying in the dirt face down…his expression shifted.

“Shit…hey, boss?”

He’d soon try to focus on their faint breathing before hurriedly giving them Stimpacks and Radaway to ease their pain.

He then prop them up and take them in a tight grip

“Sole, you idiot…let me go with you…I’m just a raider…I’m expendable…your not”

Sole would shush him before trying to convince him that it had to be them…

But sole knew Gage would never believe them…because sole knew that gage really cared…

…maybe he was the only one that did.

• Hancock

Hancock’s late-night jet trip kept him asleep well after sole left.

Waking up, he didn’t register the fact they had gone. When it did though..he felt more hurt than when he started becoming a ghoul.

The holotape only made things worse.

Gathering up what little supplies they kept within their home, he took as much as he could carry and began the not-too-far hike to the Glowing Sea.

They were collapsed against a tree…breathing shallow enough they could have been mistaken as dead.

Luckily they were already out of the high amounts of radiation.

He gave them much needed care, as much as a man like him could figure out how to do without needing an actual doctor.

“Don’t you dare do that to me again, sunshine. Now I’ve gotta haul your ass to a doctor”

Truthfully, he understood why they left without him…he could go feral.

But that doesn’t mean they should have gone alone.

Sole had never been happier to see him, but they felt that familiar pang of guilt. They knew they had to be the one…so why…why did seeing hancock’s expression hurt them so much?

After a while of Hancock just holding them close, he looked up at them:

“Your the only damn thing I care about…don’t go taking off on me now”

There was that smile…that damned smile

And soon, all their pain felt small again.

• Maccready

Maccready was a very, very light sleeper. Duncan being young and his past trauma made sure of that.

It’s a wonder he didn’t catch sole climbing out of bed before they left…but seeing as how well they knew him…they also knew how to stay quiet.

He played that damn holotape on loop and could believe anything that he was hearing.

“S-sole?”

He felt…hurt and..betrayed? He didn’t know.

He was always open with how he was willing to walk to the ends of the earth with sole.

But…he knew in his heart that they were more well equipped…

“Don’t think like that!”

Shaking off the fact that they may have been right to go alone, he gathered supplies and began his own way to the glowing sea…and being a traveler himself…made it in record time.

…oh god…

They were covered in blood and laying at the edge of the Sea.

He didn’t know a damn thing about wound-tending…and he all he could think about was how they were gonna die…how it was gonna be Lucy all over again and then he’d be alone…

His mind found his hands already getting to work on half-assedly patching the love of his life up. Hitting them with Stimpacks and Radaway as needed.

His eyes would lock with theirs:

“Don’t do this to me, beautiful…don’t you dare…I..”

Sole would shush him and draw him into a hug. Holding him tight and near sobbing into his shoulder.

“Never again…never..don’t do that, sole”

But sole would do it., again and again, if it meant keeping Mac out of danger.

• Nick

They had stayed over at the agency, Nick had awoken in the middle of the night, per usual as he really didn’t sleep…only to find them gone.

The handwritten note…

Oh boy…just them he knew what happened

“Trying to protect an old bot like me, huh?”

It’s not like he could very well be upset, he’d have done it for them…he was…going to do it for them.

Deathclaws ran wild out in the Glowing Sea…and he knew sole was just trying to protect them as they had the only set of power armor.

However, Nick was worried, very worried. So, he gathered up supplies from Ellie and took of to the Glowing Sea.

When he made it to the edge of the green-hazed air, he saw sole limping back through the thick fog.

“Sole! Over here!” Nick called, praying they would hear.

They did hear.

Nick then would catch them in his arms…not minding the blood from their clawed leg on his coat.

He gently applied a Stimpack followed by his Radaway supply.

“Don’t you go getting yourself killed. I’ve been out here a lot longer, I would have gone instead of you.”

Sole just nods into his shoulder, smiling.

Nick meant it too, he’d do anything for sole.

• Piper

Piper was used to sleeping with one eye open. This was because of Nat. If something ever happened to her…Piper would be listening.

So it’s no surprise that she felt sole’s absence in their shared bed.

“Blue…?”

She’d call sole’s name to no response and would quickly become frantic.

“Blue…where are ya blue?”

Again…no response. That’s when she’d find the holotape and play it.

“No…”

Without thinking she’d grab the supplies she had available and would make her way to the Glowing Sea…hoping she would make it in time.

Upon reaching the edge of the green hellhole, she’d see sole, decked out in the remaining pieces of power armor.

Sole would basically fall out of the suit upon seeing the familiar red trench coat. However, the were to weak to stand and embrace her.

Piper would do the rest. Giving sole need medical care and telling them that they were safe.

“Don’t do that to me…please…you and Nat are all that I have left”

Sole knew it wouldn’t be the last time they pulled something stupid…after all, they had a son to find and someone to protect.

• Preston

Preston wakes up at the crack of dawn pretty much so he quickly would realize sole’s absence… and immediately knew why they were gone.

Preston is a very emotionally open man with sole and sole alone. So he actively discussed the trip to the glowing sea with sole the night before.

This was all to sole brushing off the question with “we can talk about it later”

He knew that they didn’t want him to worry about him…but he did worry…in fact he was rather upset that they had up and left…leaving only a note behind explaining what they planned on doing.

He’d silently curse, leaving sanctuary with all the supplies he could muster as he headed out into a cold, early morning

Along the trip, he began to think about his emotions…he was upset and worried, yes, but…

Anyone else would have made him go…the settlers would have…but sole…

They cared.

Upon reaching the wide open area before the Glowing Sea…he saw sole tending to their broken power armor

They would greet him…before coughing and nearly collapsing.

To that, Preston would apply Stimpacks and Radaway.

“Sole…babe…I know you want to keep me safe and I’m so..very grateful for that…for you…but please, next time, wake me at least?”

Sole agreed to his surprising light terms with tears in their eyes.

Preston knew sole, they weren’t gonna stop caring. They needed to do everything they could to find their son…he just hoped next time the would communicate better.

it's certain that hybe will use the "the 7 are important" speech and in reality, they will continue to give the spotlight and privileges only to jk, it wouldn't surprise me if he was the only one who had the freedom to do his solo work while the group is active again.

pd and scooter, they're despicable people but I don't think they'd shoot themselves in the foot by trying to end bts right away, imagine how much backlash that would give and how much money they'd lose, or maybe they're dumb and do that??? 🤔

the way the armys fandom has become pathetic, it's quite possible that they will continue to manipulate this fandom, making jk out to be some poor bastard who didn't know what he was doing.

jk has always been pushed as the golden member, ever since debut. that's why he was given center even though other members were better suited for it. also why he was given so many lines as well. i don't know when their greed involving jk started, but it seems to be from early in their careers.

the thing i'm most interested in is how the fanbases have changed. everyone's grown their own solo fanbases, and army have lowkey been in shambles lately. i think more internal fanwars will be arising over stupid stuff like line distribution and other stuff. there will be a lot different fandom wise. we've grown as a solo fandom but bts has (supposedly) lost a lot of army from hiatus. that and with jk's push and jimin's popularity in the us, they've gained a bunch of fans that will be tuning in for bts now.

As much as I love Nani and understand what she wentthrough (I had her back in each poll🫡), Ed has a weird situation. Nani is forced into being a parent and sibling to Lilo because their parents died but Ed is forced to take care of himself and Al because their dad LEFT and their mom pretty much died from a broken heart and her sickness.

Granted, Ed is definitely not a parent to Al, which gives them a stronger sibling relationship. However, Ed still takes the brunt of the suffering the world to protect Al. Nani is up against CPS (🤢), neocolonialism, and aliens while Ed is up against the entire government alongside these weird ass monsters.

As the oldest sibling, Ed took on the responsibility to make tough choices and decisions, so Al would never have to. Which is harder to me because Ed is like 1-2 years older than Al. It's expected of Nani, as a sibling much older than Lilo, to take care of her (which is another can of worms that I dont have time to get into).

I feel like Ed feeling that responsibility, even with that small ass age gap, is the true representation of older sibling energy. It's looking at your sibling, who you held as a newborn when you were 2, and going "I need to take care of that baby", even though you're still a baby too.

And, because you're still a baby, people from the outside will look and go "why is this 15 year old boy employed by the military which has a history of committing war crimes and psychologically breaking their soldiers?". But you KNOW you have to do these things because if you don't and if you don't suffer, then your younger sibling will.

The last thing I'll say in my propaganda is that the enemies Nani and Ed are up against are real asf. CPS and neocolonialism ravage communities of color in the US under the guise of protecting children. Amestris (where FMA takes place) is an imperialist country that committed genocide and used/sacrificed anyone it could to commit genocide again.

In their respective universes, Nani and Ed were up against some of the most insidious governments and political tools/lies. But, Ed had more to lose. When CPS comes to take children away, families are given "chances" to "fix" what is wrong (which is why in the end Lilo wasn't taken away) (even though CPS is so shitty that this often isn't the case for families of color).

Ed didn't have that safety net. If he didn't do what he did, if he hadn't taken up the role as the older sibling, if he hadn't stepped up and done everything he could to do better for and protect Al, everyone would be gone. And even then, Ed's main focus was always ever on Al, not on saving everyone in these the countries.

*Also, there's something about the way Ed carries their father leaving and their mother dying differently from Al. Al doesn't hate or resent their father, but Ed does. And that's because Ed understands that, if their father had not left, the weight of the world would not be on their shoulders. Ed has shielded Al, not only from the world but also, from the hole their father left in their lives.

NOTHING says older sibling more than having to see your younger sibling(s) love and believe the same parent(s) that put y'all in the fucked up place y'all are in. And then, your younger sibling(s) doesn't understand your reticence or anger. BECAUSE they didn't have to pick up what y'all parent(s) left behind and then understand that y'all parent(s) had a CHOICE to not leave and they only came back when it suited them. Sorry this is a bit late, I had some events to attend the past few days..! And thanks!! It makes me happy to hear that you like my rambling :)

As for my thoughts on the other characters, I love most of them actually!! I love love love Sakura!!! I especially love how well her character is structured: through design, through her backstory, through daily life and relations and even how well her name suits her lmao. I really like how she has a background where she was really sick as a child (till we meet her), and how her being a miko, nurse and counsellor (she has three fucking jobs and I love it) has her help others since she knows how it's like to have problems (physically or psychologically). Sakura counselling might be my favorite bit though, just seeing how she helps guide mostly the students is really nice and I wish it was appreciated more. And don't get me started on how she is the perfect straight man to the craziness of the others. She was part of the craziness at first (from her intro to her earliest nurse days, Ataru straight manned instead), but it seemed like RT thought Sakura straight manning was much better while Ataru was cemented as the funny man in their dynamic and it suits them so well. The sane Sakura having to deal with everyone's BS (esp Ataru's) is my favourite thing lol. I also really like her relationship with Tsubame, him being the dumb to her smarts.(The remake plays down Tsubame's idiocy btw and it disappoints me so so much) They're that one couple we all ship without knowing it lmao. The chapters which focus on them are really nice, esp that one with the ghost girl who interfered with them and Sakura got super jealous lmao, it we interesting side to see from her and it was really fun :)

Oh shit, I rambled so much about Sakura, I forgor this ask wasn't just about her, I'm so sorry lmao, she is in my top three UY gals for a reason XD

I think up next in UY blorboism to me (who aren't main characters) would be Asuka. Idk, I just love her, she is so cute and so silly. I think what put her in the blorbo category specifically were these panels: one where Asuka made her own armor from a military tank or something idk and she looked so cute while wearing it!!!! And the second is from the arc where Asuka goes to school and she wears a pair of broken glasses in the final panel of the arc which looks super funny and silly XD

Asides from that, I love her voices, both of them!! They sound so soft and sweet!! And her shtick is very entertaining and chaotic, I love all her chapters!!

I think up next in terms underrated characters I love would be Benten and Oyuki. They both have personalities which bounce off well on other characters and especially each other. They're like my #1 Yuri ship in the series, but even in a platonic sense, they're dynamic is really good!! I need to draw them more, lol.

That's it for characters who I feel are widely underrated.. this post would be even longer if I talk about everyone in detail so I'll just speedrun my thoughts on the ones you mentioned plus a few others...

Ran and Ryu are two characters who I feel are really popular which is why I didn't mention them above. Ran's bipolar nature is so good and funny while her growing understanding and reconciling with Lum slowly is really sweet. Ryu is one of those characters who I wish was treated better because I feel like she deserves everything she wanted but her stupid father comes in the way. Ryunosuke's character is one of those things I wished was done better. Give her all the sailor suits, bras, swimsuits, skirts, etc. she wants!!

Cherry is really funny, like in a way he's basically Ryunosuke's dad but done so much better. The amount of moments where I've wheezed laughing cause of him is way too many too count. I like Kotatsu neko, he's cute and it's funny how he's one of the strongest characters!! Ryoko is another one I like because of how insane she is lmao and Inaba is so so sweet!! Meanwhile, Rei is hilarious and his cow form is so silly XD

I also really like Rupa and Carla too, Idk, the way they're supposed to mirror AtaLum and their crazy dynamic captivates me.

And I guess I'll stop here! There are others, but this is already super long so I'll end it here!!

People are calling them AUs these days? I just took all my favorite things and smashed them together. All of it is just a compilations of ideas that I think are cool. A lot of it doesn't quite make sense. Like "why does a child have access to mind uploading tech?" uhhh because... aliens. And it's cool I guess. yeah there we go. sure. Dont think about it too hard lol

First of all, some things to know about Kraang:

Utroms are highly sensitive to their environments. Their thin skin is very permeable, their bodies practically a mush of exposed neurons. If not under perfect conditions they rapidly deteriorate and die. They live in containers.

Their biggest weakness is aeon crystals, a rare mineral that emits an energy that permeates their armor and reacts with their bodies causing them to disintegrate into green goo (wow I sure wonder what that is). Like salt to a snail.

This green goo is highly radioactive and still dangerous to them. The bodies must be disposed of quickly or else they risk cancers and mutations to their highly sensitive bodies.

The Kraang is a militia of Utroms.

Kraang is at war with the Triceratons. The Kraang are losing the war because the Triceratons have discovered the Kraang's weakness and have gotten ahold of aeon crystals, which they are unaffected by themselves.

However, the Kraang have a plan to surprise their enemy and win the war once and for all. They are building an interplanetary superweapon.

As they slowly dwindle in numbers they send out small fleets to invade specific planets and use the planet as a military base to set up a piece of a super weapon.

The Kraang are low on materials, scavenging for anything they can use to fight and defend and build. Becoming leeches to other civilizations and pillaging any planets that can't fight back.

The Kraang do not care about the planets they are using. In their opinion the planets should be honored by their invasion and thankful for being useful. We all do what we must to survive.

NOW ABOUT FUGITOID.

"Looking through their blinds as a Kraang ship descends right nearby; the upload is complete. They take off the helmet on their head with trembling hands. They don't know where their family is, but they have a good idea of why they haven't come home yet. They don't have any weapons or skills. Even with all their junior tech kits and good grades, one kid can't save something as world shattering as this. So, with a turn of a chronometer dial on their suit, a familiar fuzzy feeling overcomes them, as their body begins to shut down for rest as they do every few days. They go cuddle up in their nest and hold their plushy tight to their chest, petting it's soft head and nuzzling it. As the dizzying haze takes over they close their eyes and their body relaxes. The room turns humid and blisteringly hot. They did their best."

Honeycutt is a nerd of a kid, making inventions in their room and creating little bits and bops. They got a "build your own robot" kit for their hatch day and excitedly put it together before upgrading it and transforming it into their own beautiful creation. Giving it a million little silly features and fun tricks. It was their masterpiece and their favorite thing.

That robot quickly became a blessing and a curse when the Kraang arrived. As they witnessed their home planet be taken over, out of options and alone, they backed up their consciousness to it, surviving the genocide in a strange half-existence sorta of way. Becoming one with their own creation.

They try to run and escape their own planet but are quickly captured by the Kraang. The aliens discover their engineering abilities and durability. So they force them to help build the Kraang super weapon on their own planet and do the dirty work that the Kraang are too sensitive to do. Perhaps they try to fight back and free themselves, maybe they're successful a few times. Maybe they even gave themselves the duty to go out and warn the other planets that are about to be invaded to help prepare them. But sooner or later, the Kraang catch up. And they can do nothing to stop it. Everything they do, everything they try, fails. Over and over. They quickly earned their new name "Fugitoid"

After so many failed attempts to stop the invasions and the super weapon and military bases and all of it. They eventually become jaded and give up. Just giving in and letting it happen as each planet is destroyed and repurposed for a more advanced species.

As the construction of the weapon comes closer to completion, just 3 pieces of the weapon, 3 planets left, they arrive to Earth, the one next in line. Since Earth is a grave dumping site and potentially dangerous for the Kraang, Fugitoid is dropped off to survey the area, collecting samples of the planet's surface and life to prepare for invasion.

Through some crazy hijinks, the turtles meet Fugitoid, perhaps through Casey Jones and his crazy alien speculations. They hang out and be goofy kids together. After a while, the Kraang come to take Fugitoid away and with the turtles already knowing Kraang=Bad (because like, they've already been chased by another single Kraang who is trying to capture them to prove to their higher ups that they could make mutant warriors with the ooze that are immune to Aeon crystals - It's a whole other plotline. Dont worry bout it too hard. The turtles just know Kraang=Bad). The turtles fight and save Fugitoid from abduction. Fugitoid doesn't really try to fight back or help in any way, they're just kinda like "Yeah sure. Ok. Whatever" but they eventually are saved and the Kraang retreat to space.

When Fugitoid is rescued from their capture and is introduced to Earth culture, they can't help but be very detached and numb (kinda like Marvin from hitchhikers guide.) Leo sarcastically asks if all android are so emotionless. Fugitoid explains that they know this world will end thanks to the Kraang. There's nothing anyone on this planet can do about it, so in order to lessen the pain of losing what they love once again, they refuse to grow attached to anything.

But as good friends do, the turtles and the gang try their best to prove that it is safe to care and love, in fact, it is vital to live. They do everything they can to keep them and this planet safe and they try to prove that to them. After many many attempts, Fugitoid finally gives in a tiny bit. Letting themself believe that maybe it really is ok. Their new friends have been quite good at stopping the Kraang from their resource gathering, societal infiltration, and attempts at abduction...

As the story develops and our team learns more about their new friend. It is revealed what Fugitoid has done. All the destruction they have been complacent in, all the deaths they are responsible for, all the danger they have put their planet in. The team is horrified. Raph is furious that Fugitoid even complied with their captors for something so horrible. Leo feels betrayed, like she had put her entire family in danger by welcoming this stranger to her home. Mikey is heartbroken and confused, wondering how they could ever give up on all those people so easily.

Fugitoid, filled with shame and self disgust does what any scared child does, they run and hide.

Donnie is able to track them down using a tracking device she clipped onto them. She finds them and listens to their story. Donnie understands. She is also very limited in her abilities. She is also just a kid. She's not very strong or capable on her own. She doesn't even know what she'd do if she didn't have her family. She relies so heavily on her sisters and her machines, she feels ashamed for struggling to do even the simplest of things sometimes.

She kinda gets what it is like to feel helpless and to just accept it and give up already. In fact, she is already preparing for her own end. She already has plans to create an AI version of herself if she were to ever die. She has been recording her voice for the past few years and compiling it together, both for her own amusement to hear herself talk but also for her records of her thoughts and experiences. It makes sense to give up so easily and just accept your place. It's freeing in a way to let go of control. But. What you have to remember is that you always have at least a tiny bit of influence. No matter how minor.

She concludes that we may not be able to stop the future, but we can still influence it in a better direction. Just like how Honeycutt was able to put their consciousness in another body. It didn't save their world, but it did save them. The destruction of their world and all those other ones would have happened with or without Fugitoid. But now they can try to help at least one world or at least let it keep going a little longer. Fugitoid knows the inner working of the Kraang like no other. They know how to fly ships and hack their coding systems, they know all their big plans and how their weapons work and their weaknesses. Fugitoid is such a vital asset and can do so much more than before. It's not on their shoulders to save an entire planet, but they can still do something. Even if it's tiny. Even if it seems pointless.

Then they join the turtles and have a whole plot arc to fight the Kraang causing enough damage to them that the fleet has to retreat and avoid the planet, les they run out of resources completely, allowing Earth to live for another day. The day they return is unknown, but for now, they can keep living.

Their story explores a lot of survivors guilt. Feeling trapped in your own body. And finding strength and meaning in inevitability.

But as they hang out with the turtles more and get out of all that detachment and apathy they slowly return to being a silly goofy kid who loves to play little pranks, build machines, and have so much sass.

Perhaps in later seasons we can explore their identity a bit more, how they can't fully experience the same things that their friends can. How no one truly understands what their home planet is like. What it's like to be the last of their kind but also not even BE their own kind anymore. And of course all the grief of destroying all those planets. God just, lots of trauma in this one.

OH!! maybe we could even have an episode where fugitoids friends come together and try to like, learn about and recreate their home planet a bit from all the stories they told. idk, now I'm just thinking up more bullet points.

Maybe they can connect with metal head or another robot friend. Become robot friends hehe

I know they'd definitely be able to connect with Venus when it comes to that identity thing, how they aren't at all like their old self's anymore due to circumstances out of their control. But at the same time, they're still themselves.

They could also connect to Karai when it comes to having so many regrets in the past and so much grief.

I also see Jennika very much being the cool older sister to them too. Maybe it reminds them of their old family in some way.

Hmm what else. Their pronouns are They/She/It. Um..... Ya I can't think of anything else right now. :D

i rly appreciate these tags bc i’ve been on an Aging Romanticization kick, and i’m so glad it shows. i have such a habit of drawing halbarry in their 20s, but they’re 30s-40s in my mind by default. it was a real treat finally getting to draw the wrinkles and softness that they deserve! they’re settling into themselves :”)

you have no idea how thrilled these tags made me, it’s the trans experience of turning the mundane into the sublime. while i was adding gender songs to their playlists, i stumbled upon one for barry called man of my dreams by ezra michel that truly encompasses the serenity of post-transition unremarkable living. old man barry watering his house plants and cooking dinner for his loved ones… that’s the dream :”)

it’s so nice for him too bc he’s matured and gotten more introspective with age. he’s still the most emotionally constipated lantern, but he also becomes a good mentor, a caring uncle, and a better brother, and i feel like this leaves room for him to be better to himself. hal is a rly interesting case study to me bc it’s not often i see characters make peace with their trauma so early on while continuing to struggle with it (as opposed to the trauma being their driving force or active conflict). none of it is linear ofc, but it’s that duality of knowing who he is/not knowing what he wants that makes his identity a playground to explore.

i’ve also just been rly into trans hcs that diverge from canon-current genders lately. it’s the reassurance that it’s never too late, the building on top of what’s already there, the privilege as a viewer to be able to experience their journey alongside them in real time,,, so underrated. i’m getting the best of both worlds with these two (pre-canon transitioning x post-canon transitioning <3)

you get it! it’s the t4t of it all!! it plays into the halbarry dynamic of being foils (+ making up for each other’s blindspots) by having them bond because of—not despite—their differences. plus, i like pushing the visual contrast in their designs for that opposites attract theme. their journeys go in opposite directions but they’re helping each other find their way (god i love trans love). also, i may or may not have a hairstylist barry in the works… 👀

#nora put barrys hair in a ponytail Once and then found barry with it on his neck while playing scientist so they compromised w hairclips #EKDNDKFNSKSK barry including his earpieces on his suit and everyone thinks its to honor jay and copy hermes #but he also added them bec it reminded him of the clips his mom gave him when she accepted that he may be a little different (@ceeloilights)

this is so close to a future work i have scripted, i’m starting to feel seen rn and perhaps exposed (/lh). tho i would like to add that barry chose the hair clips himself! he wanted to look like his favorite comic book hero so he begged his mom to “get the ones the flash has!” T__T and the connection to his mom is still there bc she’s the one that introduced those comics to him in the first place!

on the topic of acceptance… i’m not sure if barry would have come out or even known he was trans before nora died. i think she could tell smth was up and waited on his terms, but he didn’t start transitioning until high school. she would have accepted him regardless and barry probably felt that unconditional love in his upbringing, but i imagine that he would have a lot of complicated feelings abt becoming someone his mom might not recognize. i try to make my aus generally canon-compliant (additional flavoring if you will), but i think one thing i would change is that barry’s middle name would take after nora instead of henry. and he would keep it ;__; bartholomew nora allen,,,

edit: wait remember how nora thought barry was gay and said she’d love him no matter what. yeahh she definitely knew that boy was trans

last but not least are the various bigender hal appreciation comments! shoutout to everyone that’s having some kind of gender awakening/euphoria bc of her 💚
