Jax caused Ribbit’s abstraction by being a bad influence.

The post was inspired by this tiktok I watched. It’s a really good analysis watch it. I’d recommend watching it first at it explains better than what I’m about to write about lol.

There is something about Jax and Pomni becoming close and Ragatha’s growing concern for it, and how it all ties to the hints the episode has been giving about a late cast member’s demise: Ribbit.

To start off, I feel that most people are viewing Jax/Pomni growing bond, Ragatha’s point of view of said bond, and what was Jax’s relationship with his old friend like on a surface level. So this post will highlight some things and hopefully good reasons to why I think it’s HIGHLY POSSIBLE Jax was the reason the closest person to him is gone and how it’s gonna contribute to his deteriorating mental state into committing worse acts as he and Pomni grow closer.

This is also to consider the theories going on about Jax likely going to commit something horrible as he gets worse; the main one being he causes one of the cast to abstract or to a near point. But who’s to say he hasn’t already?

This is not to say he intentionally killed Ribbit or had any malicious intent, but more like the impact he had on his friend and how it constricted their wellbeing and views in life, and it got groomed into the way Jax sees it as a nihilistic instigator. It influenced Ribbit to a certain point and then this “something” happened that we have yet to know about. And, like what happened to Kinger when his wife abstracted, Jax got highly affected too but worse in a much darker tone as he might’ve took his friend for granted, just as he might with Pomni.

Jax still does care for his late friend a lot but there’s a possibility he either does not take accountability for his actions or doesn’t want to face the possibility he could have led his friend down a dark path. So Jax prefers to not talk about it as a way to survive in the Digital Circus, and a whole lot of other things not just that. But he does seek comfort, which is what he confides to Pomni about since she’s new and doesn’t have any past ties with as of yet.

It was when Jax opened up to Pomni in the stargazing scene, he likely finds he wants her as a friend. But because of who he is as a person, he goes with it by also using Pomni as a way to get under Ragatha’s skin and influence bits of himself onto her. It’s not to say he’s faking his interest, but he sees this opportunity as more of a two for the price of one kind of deal. And Ragatha is automatically noticing the red flags.

Then you have throughout the episode of Jax asking Pomni a lot of questions about herself very very subtly. (This video gives a good rundown so you can see what I mean. This is probably irrelevant to this post but cmon)

By the way, by influencing bits of himself onto Pomni, this is what: When Jax makes a comment about Gangle’s batting performance to Pomni, Ragatha argues with him to stop trying to force Pomni to act like him being the insensitive jerk he is, in which Jax, being the silent instigator casually deflects if it’s better to force her to be happy all the time. It gives off something that has happened before with someone they knew.

We get these detailed scenes of Ragatha’s ever growing concern the more she witnesses the two bond.

I hope I don’t mean to put this as picking sides or that this is villainizing Jax. He’s definitely a complex character who’s definitely losing it the longer you stick in the circus. Just as Ragatha has a streak of toxic positivity that has affected her relationships with the rest of the cast, Jax’s toxicity affects his as well. But this is giving something that either only Ragatha and Jax know about; and Pomni doesn’t. So if not Ragatha, now Pomni’s going to first see it from Jax point of view. They both don’t get that Pomni is in the middle. Literally.

Considering gooseworx does say Jax and Pomni’s relationship is described as “messy”, as wholesome as they were in episode 5, it’s probably messy as in there’s a toxic friendship in development. And it doesn’t seem Jax is stopping the cycle from continuing with how he gaslights Ragatha that she told Gangle to kys when bro literally told Gangle to her face he likes her better when she’s sad.

Now, how does this all mean he caused his friend to abstract in simply terms?

This is mainly going off on what gooseworx has said about Jax becoming worse and his messy relationship with Pomni that is soon to be by how Jax is supposed to be a bad guy and by how concerned Ragatha is about it that it’s hard to ignore this has likely happened before with Ribbit (plus Pomni and Ribbit look a bit alike). I don’t know if it’s he became bad because of his friend dying? Did they get sucked into the circus together like Kinger with his wife? Or perhaps being friends with Jax is a bad idea.

The true thing we know is that %$& rabbit is going to get worse and jokes on you I’m into that shit.

So...Fraud.

The eight layer of Hell, and the second to last level in Ultrakill. Even if we just have the teaser for now, there's already a lot of theories on what Fraud's gonna be like! Personally, I've been giving it a lot of thought lately.

Analysis/Theories under cut!

First off, the OST art for 8-1.

The cover is immediately...off-putting. Ultrakill has INTENTIONALLY avoided eye imagery for most of the game, the only exceptions I can think of being the death screen, the eyes in Gluttony, and the tiny one in the album art for A Heart Of Cold. So an eye that is MEANT to be the central piece is very weird. Not to mention the artstyle change from, say, Infinite Hyperdeath, Imperfect Hatred and even Violence.

They all very clearly show the themes of Ultrakill, using black sharp silhouettes on top of a solid color background. In contrast, the one for Fraud gives off a more "holy" vibe. It has light colors, soft strokes and not even a speck of black to be found. It's almost inviting.

8-1 "HURTBREAK WONDERLAND"

The mission takes place in some kind of manor, and a modern city. It looks normal, to some point. Too normal for a game like Ultrakill. Then again, the layer as a whole is based on deceit.

Watching the teaser, one of my first thoughts was "Hey, this looks a bit like 5-3!" So I played it to get in-game footage.

I know it may just be reused models to save time, BUUUT it's funny to me how people theorized on Fraud to mimick Heaven, and just how similar 8-1 is to the inside of the Ferryman's ship (a character heavily related to Heaven, that intends to show his gratitude towards it). It wouldn't surprise me if the Ferryman decorated his ferry to resemble Paradise on purpose. (We still don't actually know what Heaven looks like in Ultrakill, sooo...)

Then there's also plenty of stone statues shaped like a lion devouring a sun. In alchemy, that can represent the consciousness being overwhelmed by violent, frustrated desires (I'll retake this later). Or, it's used as a metaphor for aqua regia (the lion) dissolving gold (the sun). The sun itself is sometimes linked to the consciousness, the divine, or sulphur, too. Interesting how a screenshot focuses on a red skull, considering those are the ones which have the alchemical symbol for sulphur. With such emphasis on it, it makes me think there might be some parts of Fraud that are just completely corroded or ruined.

Stanley Parable?

Some sort of office/warehouse/factory. It continues that "urban" theme from the first mission. Not much to comment here for now with the lack of screenshots, sadly :(

(Though, the colors kinda reminded me of that bathroom at what seems to be the end of 8-1. Wonder what the deal with it is??)

Fraud - General

Non-euclidean geometry in a modern-esque, twisted yet beautiful city. In such a deep layer of Hell, you'd expect it to be a lot more grotesque, like its version in Dante's Inferno. And it's deceitfully pretty, clearly going for a liminal feel. We're going to be fighting enemies on top of buildings while the environment bends around us (So metal!!).

I'm really curious as to what the torture here is supposed to be. The normality of its looks could make you think about Limbo, where the torture was psychological.

"WE CAME IN" If that's a reference, then I'm completely oblivious to it. However, I'm assuming it refers to the inside of the TV in the room, which looks like it leads to the start of the level. In 1-4, the book's text tells us how Hank's experience in Limbo tempted him to "plunge deeper into hell". In Fraud, if the punishment is any similar to Limbo's, then there might be a similar situation. By "going in" the TV, you're progressing in the level, and eventually going deeper into the layer.

And again with the 5-3 parallels, there's the level names. "Ship of fools" and "Hurtbreak Wonderland". The ferry is a safe (if you ignore the enemies in the mission??) place amidst the raging sea of souls of Wrath. The city of 8-1 basically intends for you to feel comfortable, at least by its looks. And yet, 5-3's title directly tells you what to expect from the level, while 8-1's goes as far as to call it a wonderland.

Honestly, Fraud's got a lot of potential for a high scare factor. I'm betting it's going to have AT LEAST one moment in a mission, like the Mannequin jumpscare in 7-1.

(If it relies on psychological horror then I'm sold. And horrified. I'd hate the first playthrough and I mean this in the best way possible)

As for 8-S, no clue. I don't really know WHAT to expect since this is the first layer release I've been around for. I doubt we'd guess it, anyways. Unlikely because of how popular the prediction is, but it would be so funny if it was a building simulator. The PC gaming show had a bunch of those before the Ultrakill announcement and after it the views basically HALVED. I feel kinda bad because some of the games were genuinely cool-looking but really most of us were only there for the Fraud reveal.

One thing I don't see people talking about is that this is the last secret mission AND the last Testament if there's none in Treachery. The last of God's lore?? Maybe we'll finally learn just what happened.

Providence

A new enemy introduced in the teaser. As soon as it dropped, a popular theory was created:

Providence is NOT an angel.

It was presented as a new enemy, not as a new ANGEL enemy. And the statement seemed pretty solid, until more Fraud content was published in July 8.

Oh.

Despite confirmation from the official team themselves, I refuse to believe that's actually an angel. At least a regular one. They've told us multiple times not to trust our eyes or our ears, and that might as well be hinting at a lie they're telling!

Not to mention all of the evidence there is for the theory:

1. Providence's attacks use HELL ENERGY.

2. It has whole eye on its face. According to the Terminal entry for Virtues:

"Virtues are normally known to have a multitude of eyes, though for unknown reasons, these eyes are hidden or removed for ones that become wardens in Hell. Some have speculated this may be related to why almost all husks lack eyes, with the only verified exception being the previous Judge of Hell, King Minos."

Eyes in Ultrakill are scarce, and mostly associated with Hell Itself. What is an angel with eyes doing in hell? Unless Providence is not supposed to be there, then it just doesn't much sense. Even Gabriel's (hypothetical) eyes are covered.

3. Providence seems to lack that vibrant blue light Virtues and Gabriel emit in game. Supporting this theory, 6-2 Gabriel doesn't have that Holy Light (This is after the Council removes his Light) that he did in 3-2. Sure, the arena does have a blue light in his second phase, but that's probably just the glow of his wings.

4. If you look at the concept art for Providence, you'll see a lot of insect and flower designs, especially butterflies and moths. Those insects are commonly associated with disguise or change. Following the motif, there's also an idea for Providence to be based on the Tetramorph cherub, and for it to use its different faces.

And lastly, there's plenty of concepts for Providence to be made out of stone (the material a demon's exterior is made out of.

(Though these remained concepts for a reason, it might be helpful to consider them!)

5. There's statues in the image of Providence. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, since there's statues of Gabriel and what seem to be other angels around Hell. The thing is Providence is apparently a Lesser Angel. How important could it be?

(When getting footage, I found out the lion statue is also in Limbo. Funny being how Fraud might be comparable to Limbo, them being the first and second to last layers, respectively.)

With this in mind, there's different possibilities for Providence. The first is that it's really just a freaky angel or something. Second, a demon. Or third, a husk. Regardless of how biased I might have been at first for demon Providence, it being a husk could be even more interesting and more congruent with Ultrakill's themes. Imagine how absolutely horrifying it'd be to be forced to live as a twisted caricature of something you clearly aren't, in a place that pretends to be a utopia.

Perhaps it was Hell, or perhaps someone else, and that brings us to the last part of this post.

P-3 predictions

Important note : We've reached the segment with the least official proof. I should mention that most of this theory is based on the belief that the Act 3 layer that had a king was Fraud, although it might also work with Treachery. Still, this is all very speculative.

I feel like Fraud did go through some kind of change like Lust did when the angels left. However, I wouldn't really call it a renaissance. Minos focused on reforming his kingdom, Sisyphus trained an army, and perhaps this third king chose to do something similar to Minos, but not for the sake of his people. Rather, just to spite Heaven by copying it.

That being said, my candidate for the third Prime Soul is Theseus. Not only is he very associated with the Minotaur (that is associated with Minos), he also checks the boxes for being a Greek king in mythology, having some questionable actions, and being fraudulent/treacherous in some occasions.

As mentioned with the alchemy symbolism earlier, someone may have been frustrated and succumbed to a more brutal lifestyle. The angels' disappearance was the perfect opportunity to taunt the jailors. The Fraud layer transformed into a beautiful place, but only to the eyes of its king. The sinners were morphed into parodies of the gracious inhabitants of Heaven, eternally forced to behold what they could have been. The Council, utterly disgusted, sent Gabriel to get rid of the ruler, imprisoning him, you know the drill.

Since the kings in Hell seem to have known eachother, then that's a check, too. Theseus has a connection to Minos due to slaying the Minotaur in mythology.

(I wonder if the one who gave it to Minos is really the third prime soul. According to its data, was sculpted by "████ ██████" as a gift for the Judge of Hell in an attempt to find some kind of rapport. I tried looking for Greek kings that had six letter names and fit the "criteria" for a possible Prime soul, but no one really convinced me. That person might just be a random Hell resident.)

From what we've been shown of Fraud, it has a lot about change. The perspective changing, the environment shifting, the concept art of Providence alternating faces, and whatever else might come with the full level. And what is Theseus also known for? His paradox. If an object's parts are all replaced over time, is it still the same object, or a completely new one? Not only does it fit with the idea of Fraud being transfigured, but I think it would also be a really cool concept for Ultrakill's finale. After humanity went through so much horrible events, and did such horrific things, could it still have been considered...well, human?

Aaaaand we're done! Is this overanalyzing it? Probably. Is it far-fetched? Completely. Albeit, I really really really needed to organize my thoughts, so here you go. I'm going to go bonkers when Layer 8 comes out. The last level with 4 missions is surely going to be pretty lore heavy.

Chapter 110 is 13 pages long welcome to hell!!! so in a lot of ways this is just more fuel for a theory that I've had for a few weeks now, that's only gotten stronger with each recent season 5 episode, which is that the last episode of the season is gonna end on 110, and that Asagiri/Harukawa and Bones have been collaborating to make this happen, specifically because it's a major turning point that would be the only good place to end the season on.

When we started getting especially long chapters again (like from 25-35ish pages, with the exception of 107.5, the last two being some of the longest we've ever had), at first I just assumed that Asagiri/Harukawa got freed up from some other obligations they'd been having to cause the extremely short/half chapters, like promotional stuff for the anime/Beast movie, or working on light novels. But then 109 happened, with the "supposed" death of Dazai, and heavy emphasis at the end on how literally everyone is at their lowest point right now, and I got to thinking. 11 episodes is a strangely specific number for an anime season -- why not 12, or 13, or even 10, like you'd usually see? Why have we gotten suddenly gotten two 35 page chapters out of nowhere, that's almost unheard of at this point? They're both beautiful chapters, don't get me wrong (as always), and maybe A/H simply just didn't want to cut them in halves because they felt like the full emotional impact wouldn't hit/that there were no good cutoff points in them, but you can't deny that it's surprising, after all the shorter chapters we've been getting. Why has the anime been going at such insanely breakneck pacing for the most part ever since around the Sunday Tragedy chapters, even more so than it has in the past? So much so that it feels dangerously close to overtaking the manga?

Well, maybe, just maybe, it's because..... Asagiri decided a long time ago that whatever happens in 110 is the only point that feels "season finale"-worthy enough, in an arc that still isn't anywhere close to being completely wrapped up, and so both the manga and the anime have been specifically coordinated to reach that part within 2 and a half weeks of each other?

I've seen a lot of people now think season 5 will end with 109, and as much as my sadistic side would find that hilarious, I honestly don't think they'd do that and realistically don't want it to happen; it'd be so cruel to cliffhanger the anime for years like that, and just doesn't feel like a season cliffhanger BSD would do, a series that is ultimately hopeful and uplifting. Seasons 2 and 3 had a positive, conclusive ending; the only reasons seasons 1 and 4 didn't was because they're technically not really full seasons of their own, and are more like the first cour of another "season" that also came out that same year (seasons 1 and 2 both aired in 2016, so they're more like one big season, and seasons 4 and 5 have both aired this year, so they're also more like one big season, again taking into account how episodes 12 and 50 are not satisfying finales like episodes 24, 37, and hypothetically, 61, are). I really can't see season 5 ending with Dazai and Fukuzawa's supposed deaths, Sigma being unconscious and maybe close to death, Atsushi being vulnerable and limbless again, everyone we love still vampires, and the entire world being basically doomed; that's just too depressing and not like BSD at all. However, having said that, if it doesn't end there, there really isn't any good place to end the season before that, either, that feels in any way satisfying or like a finale at all. And so, to me, that only leaves after 109: chapter 110.

I think things are really gonna turn around next chapter. Like I said, everyone is at their lowest point right now, it cannot possibly get any worse, the framing of Dazai, Fukuzawa, and sskk at the end of 109 is telling us that; this is the time for the heroes to finally start winning again, with Aya being so close to pulling out the sword, and for all the thematic reasons other people have talked about to death that I don't need to go into here again. This upcoming chapter being so short again makes a part of me wary of 110 being "the one", so to speak, I won't lie, but at the same time, it's very possible that it needs to be that short because that's all the final episode of the season will be able to reasonably fit in, since it's already gonna be VERY close if they do make it all the way to 109. And at the end of the day, I don't doubt at all that Asagiri and Harukawa can make these the most monumental and game-changing mere 13 pages ever if they wanted to; a chapter does not at all need to be extremely long in order to be an important and impactful one, even if short ones we've gotten in the past haven't felt the most important.

An additional thought I've had, though this is much more crack territory than all this already is, is that since we know from Anime Expo that a Stormbringer movie at some point is highly likely (judging from Asagiri's reaction when someone brought it up), it's possible that chapter 110 and thus the final episode will involve the long-anticipated return of Verlaine and/or Adam, or at least some other major reference to Stormbringer, that would naturally and smoothly lead into a Stormbringer movie to explain things to people who haven't read the novel. It would make a lot of sense, especially since the s4 OP has the Old World sign behind Chuuya, which might be a hint that this has been in the works ever since seasons 4/5 were first in planning with Asagiri. We also know that Dazai and Chuuya's voice actors apparently struggled to record their lines together this season, which probably relates to 101 and possibly 109, but it could be 110 too.... I could be very wrong, as I'm no expert on this kind of thing, but I kinda doubt they would bring Chuuya's actor in for just the vampire growls, and Asagiri placing heavy emphasis on Chuuya's importance this season in that one interview gives me the impression that he's talking about much more than just 101/109. But that's the least solid evidence I have, that's just mostly based on vibes I get.

So basically, I think a lot of factors -- the unusual episode count, how close the anime is to catching up to the manga with three whole episodes left, the seemingly arbitrary recent chapter lengths, and the climactic events of 109 -- can tell us that 110 might be a very, VERY big deal. Again, there's of course no way this arc is anywhere near close to being finished, with so much left to address and resolve, but since it is currently incomplete in the manga, unlike the previously adapted arcs, if the anime was going to adapt it at all, they'd have to find a place that feels satisfying enough to end this season, knowing there won't be more anime for a long time after this, and so I think they specifically planned for that, from both Bones' and A/H's sides. 10 episodes might not have been enough to reach that point, but 12 or 13 might have been too many it wouldn't have been if Bones actually decided to slow down and let the story breathe the way it needs to, but this post isn't meant to criticize the anime, so maybe 11 was just right. And maybe Asagiri and Harukawa specifically pushed to make recent chapters longer than usual, in order to make sure that the manga reached the story content in 110 the monthly release right before season 5 was to end.

Is this just copium? Absolutely. Am I going to look like an absolute clown in two days when this post ages like milk? Probably. But the evidence is There, so let me just enjoy my delusions until Sunday, okay 🥂🫡

Its written so its as if their careers began at the same time. There's obviously some parts where they deviate from each other(I blame Fernando), but they're pretty similar, no??

Here's some notes I have:

They both started at technically the same team(if you ignore that Seb raced one race for Sauber): Minardi/STR. And they spent 3 seasons either racing for that team or testing(Fernando for Renault, Seb for BMW teams), before being promoted to the team where they won their respective WDCS.

They both spent six seasons with their WDC team. And both won their WDCs using Renault engines. Both were pretty much the golden boys of their teams, beloved by their team principal and team in general. Unfortunately both aren't consecutive because Fernando tried out McLaren lol.

They spent a similar amount of years at Ferrari(five and six respectively.) Neither could win a WDC with Ferrai(😔) And both joined Ferrari in a very similar way. When Fernando joined, he ousted Kimi and it was very uncertain where Kimi was going. I think the commentators in 2009 predicted McLaren? (But he ended up taking a sabbatical obv.) But pretty messy, right? The literal same exact thing happened with Fernando and Seb in 2014-2015. They finally announced at the end of the season, even though it was pretty obvious, that Seb would be replacing Fernando. And where did Fernando go? McLaren! The history book on the shelf is always repeating itself. I guess I find it funny that Fernando replaced his former rival under somewhat messy circumstances, only for his other rival to do the exact same thing to him years later.

Okay McHonda and Alpine blah blah blah. Anyways they're probably going to have both end up competing their careers after two years with Aston Martin. This honestly is my favorite parallel. Because it's very sweet to me that Seb replaced Fernando, in an aforementioned messy way, only for Fernando to take Seb's seat in a very peaceful, almost "passing the torch" type exchange 🥰

ok it's been four days since I first read the op fairytale/prophecy/history lesson and I've spent all of them thinking about it and reading theories about it this is how I'm understanding it right now

I don't know how literal this is going to be (depends on whether the first world really was our modern world or not) but I'm reasonably sure at least the inspiration for this bit is a nuclear war or at least the nuclear fission, since for obvious reasons that's a point of inspiration for end of the world scenarios in japanese media pretty often

A reference to the first instance of Nika's awakening, obviously, though I have no clue who the god of the earth might be still (maybe imu? But it's more thematic than with any actual evidence so who knows). Might also be just a general reference to the end of the first world/a form of terraforming, since in the second part the same wording is used to refer to the sea levels rising

Absolutely zero clue I'll be honest with you all. I have a sinking feeling this might be somewhat tied to the serpent up in skypiea since there's references to that arc in the mural right under, but I haven't read skypiea in too long to be sure of the hows and whys (might just go look it up tbh)

Breath upon the emptiness obv refers to the birth of new life after the end of the first world. Someone on here mentioned the forest god/demons as a reference to the creation of the devil fruits and I absolutely believe it. The sun spreading war is another obvious reference - joyboy

Half-moon people -> people with the D

Moon people -> I'm thinking lunarians

Since they're called moon and half moon I wonder if the D people are descendants or anyway somehow related to lunarians btw. I mentioned in another post that I'm starting to believe some people of the first world actually built Enel's ark and reached the moon to escape from the destruction of the first world, and that lunarians might just be direct descendants of the original people of earth - it's obviously just speculation, but the ark in the sky in the first part of the mural does look like Enel's.

Also going on a little tangent but at first I thought the second ark in the bottom left of the first page was ALSO a reference to Enels, but now I'm thinking it's a reference to Noah's ship from fishermen island (there's the animals in pairs by it and all too). Noah's ship is supposed to have been built during the void century so now I'm wondering whether the one on the mural is literally the one we see in the story and that part of the mural is just referring to the second world, or if like Enel with his own ark the fishermen of the void century had stories about the original ark and rebuilt it to save life from the flooding (then again, why would fishermen need an ark to be saved from the flooding? I've had a suspicion that they evolved into fishermen after or during the void century for a while now and that's why they have history that they used to live on land tbh, this might just give me a little more to add on that theory)

Btw, I remember long ago thinking that maybe the D only served to identify the descendants of the people original to laugh tale, and that was why they were the celestial dragons natual enemies since they were at war with them. I wonder how that ties in all of this if they really are relatives of the lunarians somehow

Anyway, back on track

It's a group presentation/paper, same group I worked with last time, which Thankfully they can pull their own weight. It's just more to do lol.

God. I'm being worked to the bone, actually. Feels like everything is happening all at once. But then I remember that it's midterms time and I have spring break the week after next. And I'm like. OK, that makes sense.

I was discussing the incident mentioned later in this piece with my wife yesterday and I saw another post by someone earlier doing something mentioned in here and I'm finally going to say something about it.

There is a serious problem in leftist spaces, especially online, especially on Tumblr, when it comes to language.

The way people are expected to speak just to even enter these spaces is incredibly complex, to the point of being outright hostile to those who haven’t already spent time in them. And it’s not just newcomers; people who have important things to say, people speaking from lived experiences, people who don’t have English as a first language but still deserve to be heard, are constantly talked down to or even pushed out entirely for not using the "right" words.

This gets even worse when you factor in how often new terms are coined in English, and then people are shamed for not immediately knowing or using them.

I saw someone reblog their own post saying something like, "I know for a fact more than half of y’all didn’t understand a fucking word I said here."

And honestly? That stuck with me, because yeah, I’ve felt that before. Not because I don’t value critical thinking! because I absolutely do! I just made a post on that too! but because so many of these posts are written in a way that makes them Functionally Inaccessible to anyone who doesn’t already have the right background knowledge. And at a certain point, if you actually want your words to have an impact, if you actually want to create meaningful change, then you’re going to have to accept some things:

People will not always use perfect language.

2. People will not always know the exact terminology you personally prefer they use when engaging in discourse.

3. Dismissing or attacking people for how they say something, instead of engaging with what they’re saying, is actively harmful.

And more than that, if you genuinely want people to understand and engage with the things you’re talking about, especially people who don’t speak English as a first language, especially people without access to higher education, especially people who don’t even know where to begin when it comes to self-education (because yes, that is a skill that has to be taught) then you are going to have to be the one to adjust sometimes. You are going to have to let people say things imperfectly. You are going to have to take a step back and engage with the message rather than just the words being used to express it.

One of the experiences that made me realize that I, as a non-native English speaker, was not welcome in Tumblr leftist spaces was when I spoke about real-life oppression I had experienced. I left one word out of my post, a word which honestly, was not even important when talking about an incident that had Happened To Me, not theory, not hypotheticals or any what-ifs of oppression, a story, a story about something that happened to me.

And because of that, people sat in a Discord server, picking apart my words, accusing me of awful things, and then came into my askbox throwing jargon and buzzwords I’d never even heard before, then got mad at me for being frustrated that this was happening.

Think about that. People who are directly impacted by oppression are being pushed out of spaces meant to discuss it because the way they speak doesn’t conform to certain expectations. That is not justice. That is not solidarity. That is not progress.

There is a fundamental disconnect here between theory and praxis. Ironically so many of you do not know what praxis is, because most of you engage with a lot of theory, and not a lot of praxis, you use the word praxis a lot, but, ironically, you have no idea what it means.

In theory, leftist spaces should be accessible. They should be places where people can speak openly about their experiences, learn from each other, and work toward meaningful change. But in practice? There’s a gatekeeping of language so intense that many people, particularly those who are marginalized in ways beyond just their political beliefs, are outright excluded.

And this is something I need people to sit with: The assumption that the "right" language is easy to learn, or that anyone who doesn’t use it is being willfully ignorant, is an inherently privileged stance. Knowing where to find information, how to process it, and how to integrate new terminology into your vocabulary is a skill that is largely tied to education. Having the time to engage with leftist literature and theory, to stay up-to-date on every new term that gets introduced, is also a privilege. And the fact that so many people refuse to acknowledge this, that they expect perfect articulation from everyone, regardless of background, and punish those who don’t measure up, is a huge problem.

Worse still, the same people who act as gatekeepers of this language often fail to communicate their ideas in a way that is accessible at all.

This doesn’t mean that complex ideas should never be discussed. It doesn’t mean that people shouldn’t strive for accuracy in their language. But it does mean that if your goal is to educate, if your goal is to spread awareness, if your goal is to help people understand and join the movement, if your goal is to engage with fellow oppressed people, then you have a responsibility to meet people where they are. You have a responsibility to make your language understandable.

Because if people can’t even process what you’re saying, then what’s the fucking point?

And before anyone says, "Well, people should put in the effort to learn!" Let me make something very clear: They do.

People who are new to leftist spaces, or who are coming in from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, are often trying their best to engage. They are listening, they are learning, they are processing. But if the response to every mistake, every slightly off phrasing, every unfamiliarity with a new term, is immediate hostility,

or even if it's just 'hey I see you're sharing a personal moment, but can you change your language to make me, personally, more comfortable with you discussing your oppression?' then you’re not teaching.

You’re just making sure only the people who already think and speak exactly like you get to stay in the room.

Your language, your terminology, your theory? none of it means anything if you can’t make it accessible to the people who actually need it. And it means nothing if you use it to Exclude rather than Include.
