one direction has been in the news as of late and on my mind (and on repeat) so i’m taking it upon myself to combine my two interests and describing what kind of directioner each batfam member is. this is for pure shits and giggles and not really based on canon, im going off pure vibes and spite.

dick - dick is NOT ashamed of his love for one direction and works out to them frequently. he’s definitely a harry fan and his favorite era of harry looks is prince hair but also long hair bc mulletwing, duh. his favorite album is midnight memories and favorite song is happily. he def saw them and 5sos in concert and remembers exactly where he was when zayn announced he was leaving the group.

jason - jason only knows so much one direction cause dick blares it in the cave when they’re working out. jason fucks with zayn and louis so hard and believes their 2014 VMAs look is top tier (which, valid). jason let himself listen to Midnight Memories, cause he appreciated the aesthetic of the album, his favorite song is the title track, Midnight Memories. to spite dick, however, he will bump The Wanted, since dick was there to witness the 1D vs. The Wanted beef.

tim - tim wasn’t a directioner but he did stumble on the adventurous adventures of one direction as a kid and may or may not know all the words to that iconic first episode, so he knows a decent chunk of lore. he also scrolls through l*rry forums when he’s bored and enjoys poking holes in their logic (tim has fought babygaters and come out on top). tim does not have a favorite album but he does enjoy their cover of one way or another/teenage kicks that they did for red nose day as well as teenage dirtbag. tim also does not have a favorite member but if he had to pick, gun to his head, he’d probably say louis.

steph - do not cite the deep magic (best song ever music video intro) to stephanie, she was there when it was written. steph is a diehard directioner. she watched the icarly episode where they guest starred when carly gave harry jungle worms. stephanie read the one direction imagines, wrote and read one direction x y/n fanfiction, she breathed these boys and would give a kidney to one of them if asked. steph loves their whole discography but i find her being very partial to their fetus era, so take me home i think is her fave, and her fave song is heart attack, that went platinum in her bedroom. steph swore she was gonna marry zayn with that cinnamon curl in his hair and a little part of her still thinks she will.

damian - this baby tried so hard not to let the 1D bug bite him but made in the AM came on a playlist dick had made for him and he was a goner. damian outwardly craps on them but when he’s alone, he listens to FOUR and MITAM, exclusively. he doesn’t think he could take them seriously as musicians if he listened to anything before then. damian likes liam bc when he tallied it up, liam had written the most of his favorite songs (i actually did this the other day, liam and louis wrote 23 of the songs on my fave 1D songs playlist) and liam is the “leader” of the group. damian really loves “if i could fly” and has even printed sheet music to learn to play it on piano.

duke - for duke, one direction has put out what he likes to call “certified hood classics”. he was familiar with their mainstream pop hits and has maybe even pretended to be a bigger fan to impress girls but he did geniunely become a bigger fan when he moved into the manor. like jason, duke fucks with zayn so hard and midnight memories is the shit for him. he enjoys “don’t forget where you belong” but his favorite mainstream hit is “kiss you”.

cass - stephanie introduced cass to one direction and while cass isn’t as obessesed with them as steph, she really does love FOUR. “once in a lifetime” is so calming for her. she finds a lot of the songs on FOUR are good for working out, dancing, etc. she also loves a lot of zayns solo work. niall is her favorite tho cause of his kind face.

bruce - in an attempt to get closer to his kids, he tried listening to their music and honestly did not see the appeal until like halfway through FOUR. steph once showed him a photo in their fetus eras and asked him hypothetically which one he’d let her and/or cass date if the opportunity ever arose itself. he said they all looked very nice. then she showed him a photo of them during the FOUR era, all tatted up, and asked again. he said either harry or niall. bruce’s favorite song is fool’s gold. steph makes an offhand comment about wanting to do everything in her power to get the band back together and bruce takes her very literally and starts attempting to make phone calls. the whole family puts a (reluctant) stop to it before bruce breaks twitter.

barbara - before she became oracle, babs was on the team of directioners who hacked security cameras to watch them at the airport, it was sort of her first foray into computer skills. she has locked that part of her deep in her soul but without it, she wouldn’t be as proficient as she is now. barbara has loved louis as long as shes been familiar with 1D and loves how sassy he is. her favorite song is “i want to write you a song” and her favorite album is MITAM.

There were and are so many reasons for Harry not to speak about Larry theories.

I think most importantly: Harry never talks about anything personal in detail, so why would he break that rule for something he surely thinks is nonsensical (if he thinks about it at all)? He's been clear about his rule since he was 17.

It's not that Larries have got an actual handle on his personal life, it's that to debunk them would come close to giving something that isn't work, and he says every album cycle, three or four times, that he's not doing that. (His haters never listen to him, though.)

Secondly he worked so hard, straight out of the gate, on expanding his fan base. He went into film: a good way for GP to get to know his name. SOTT not being pop, HS1 not being pop, both of those coming out in the run-up to Dunkirk being released: none of it was an accident, surely. (Some anon said maybe he delayed SOTT release till the others had had a go, to level the playing field a bit, but I don't think it was about that, I think it was tied to Dunkirk release.) Now people could see him in promo and when they google him there is a solo album right there.

He also did covers that were classic, beloved older songs: The Chain, Big Yellow Taxi, Sledgehammer especially. Like I don't think this is cynical, he clearly loves music from those eras: I just think it is super smart to have multiple, shareable clips out there so a whole different audience can go, oh wow, he's actually good. I didn't see the others do this at all (and they didn't have to do it via BBC radio, they could record something themselves, but they didn't). Niall has Lizzie McAlpine and Post Malone covers but those guys don't mean a lot really to a wider, older audience.

What I'm getting at (sorry this is so long!) is that if he's talking about Larry theories, or Louis, then he's keeping that link with 1D alive, and I for one think he wanted to break away very clearly and work on his new fan base. I think his 1D fans see this as a betrayal but that is because they think very simply and they don't want to be replaced.

But they have been replaced many times over, sad for them but they aren't the good quality fans. They are the annoying ones who talk a lot about 'the boys' 'they are still best friends' and cry for a reunion every time one of them says the name of another. They hold all of the 1D members back actually. Harry has said he wants to do his thing, it's different every time, go back and listen to the old stuff if that's what you like, doesn't bother him.

Also there is the Larry madness that makes them immediately turn anything Louis says into part of their conspiracy. Harry doesn't need any of that negative attention. Louis needs it or his audience dies (it is already happening). I am sure Harry sees Louis say something, and sees the result, and he is never going down that route, it is a waste of everyone's energy.

Out of curiosity I read the Rob Sheffield 2015 1d Rolling Stones and, holy shit, how can people think the media/management wasn't setting up Harry's solo career and larrybaiting to do so. 

It's mostly an asinine Harry lovefest, but there's some very specific Louis/Larry call outs. The fact that he compares H and L to Stevie Knicks and Lindsey Buckingham, and all the emotional responses they have to each other while singing; also he says he could watch H and L do laundry (a domestic/intimate task). Niall gets one shout out for guitar playing, Liam is a footnote, Zayn (who isn't there anymore) gets shaded. He recounts the famous 1d/Ronnie Wood video. People site this as Louis being so wonderful and letting Harry take his place next to RW but honestly it looks more like Louis did his stage walk - which he still does - and Harry swooped in and stole his spot/the spotlight. Sheffield even mentions a dad wearing a Larry shirt without elaborating on the context. 

And anyone who thinks Sheffield/RS had some insider band knowledge should read his tribute to Liam. He refers to Liam as the "kid brother" of 1d. Anyone with a modicum of knowledge of the band knows that Liam was, from the beginning, the most ruthlessly ambitious/professional dad of the group, never the sweet kid brother.

I fear the Larries will be insufferable once Harry and/or Louis return from their (unrelated) breaks. Us Weekly put out a nonsense article today about how the 1d members are reevaluating their bond since Liam's death. Considering how insane they got over H and L being in the same stadium at the Euros and again at the funeral (gross), we're in for a bunch of delusional content in the near future. 

Rolling Stone’s covers of Harry Styles are a really telling way of tracking his marketing, actually.

For HS1, they got Cameron Crowe to do Harry’s write up, ersatz old school rock journalist, director of nostalgic groupie flick Almost Famous, the original journalist of the big touring bands of the 70’s and 80’s that Harry wanted to copy. The first single Harry released was a nudge to Prince’s Signs of the Times (Prince’s album after he broke up his band), and the critics compared Harry to Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Bowie, even Townes Van Zandt.

But the image didn’t appeal to the 1D fandom. The album sales disappointed Sony.

Next up, Rob Sheffield, veteran of purple prose at Rolling Stone, for Fine Line. Harry wasn’t that interested in old timey rock anymore. Off came the clothes for the Rolling Stone cover, first single is a music video featuring a boy girl orgy. Harry was still singing about being above everyone else, but who’s listening to the lyrics when he’s all oiled up?

Sheffield wrote a post script to the 2015 Larrybait, by the way.

When the band stopped, did he take those friendships with him? “Yeah, I think so,” he says. “Definitely. Because above all else, we’re the people who went through that. We’re always going to have that, even if we’re not the closest. And the fact is, just because you’re in a band with someone doesn’t mean you have to be best friends. That’s not always how it works. Just because Fleetwood Mac fight, that doesn’t mean they’re not amazing. I think even in the disagreements, there’s always a mutual respect for each other.

Midway through the show, Harry’s demeanor suddenly changes. He gets uncharacteristically solemn and quiet, sitting down by himself and focusing intently on the stage. It’s the first time all night he’s taken a seat. He’s in a different zone than he was in a few minutes ago. But he’s seen many Fleetwood Mac shows, and he knows where they are in the set. It’s time for “Landslide.” He sits with his chin in hand, his eyes zeroing in on Stevie Nicks. As usual, she introduces her most famous song with the story of how she wrote it when she was just a lass of 27.

As Stevie starts to sing “Landslide” — “I’ve been afraid of changing, because I built my life around youuuu” — Anne walks over to where Harry sits. She crouches down behind him, reaches her arms around him tightly. Neither of them says a word. They listen together and hold each other close to the very end of the song. Everybody in Wembley is singing along with Stevie, but these two are in a world of their own.

Larries won’t understand the reference and in any case, they live in a fantasyland of their own.

I do feel very sad for Liam, who believed that musical talent rather than marketing would engage the fandom, who counted on nonexistent fandom loyalty in the face of industry’s propaganda.

1D fandom lives a parasocial life, but propaganda only goes one way. Some of 1D’s most beloved and popular “fandom figures” are apologists for capitalism, and capitalism is about to have a wild year.

I’m a newer Larrie and pretty naive about the One Direction days because I didn’t listen to that type of music during the time they were a band. I started liking them individually and somehow found myself in this fandom. I guess my question is why do fans compare them constantly? They all came from the same band, they all seem to support each other at least privately if not publicly and appear to be pretty grateful to have had that same experience. I’ve seen some some solo Harry fans really attack Liam and Louis negatively with even comments on their looks. They constantly compare them to Harry and how they’re somehow losers because they don’t currently have the kind of commercial success as Harry. I’ve seen other solo fans also go after Harry for all kinds of reasons too, which is just so sad to see. Was it like this in the band too? Or has this all heightened because they all went solo? They all have different sounds, so why compare them? Am I missing something maybe?

Hi darling. Welcome to the hellhole fandom. So, no. When they were in the band it was actually unusual for anyone to ever voice a dislike for any one of them. People had their favorites, but publicly everyone supported everyone.

1DHQ started the fracture with the constant pushing of Harry vs the band. They really wanted to position Harry as being separate from (and better than) the other guys. Then Zayn left. There were people who were disappointed/angry with him or who no longer cared about his career, so we started having OT5 vs OT4 discourse. Then babygate started and we had the next fracture where people began to think maybe Larry broke up or Louis cheated on Harry. This was when people became houies (people who thought HL has dated, but now has broken up). Then that was followed by the hiatus and Harry/his team pushing the separation of Harry up a notch.

There were still many OT4 supporters until HS1 dropped and then there was a whole faction of people who flipped out over Harry’s lyrics and image not meeting their expectations and I think that was when houies really divided into harries and louies. There were still larries and antis. But now there were also louies who were only interested in Louis and “rad louies” (radical louies) who hated Harry and thought he was the reason Louis’ career was being “sabotaged”. And there were also harries — some of whom hated Louis because they thought he cheated on Harry and some also bought into the idea that Harry was just better than everyone else.

The fractured nature of our fandom really went into overdrive with the popularity of Fine Line and quarantine. Thousands and thousands of people entered the fandom and many had zero interest in 1D. Harry’s het image was in overdrive with Watermelon Sugar and the idea that Camille broke his heart (thus, being inspiration for the album). Holivia, DWD, As It Was, Harry’s House and Harry’s growing fame really made things worse in that department.

It seems as though a lot of Harry’s newest fans see any link back to 1D or his former bandmates as being a step backwards or as the other guys trying to “use” Harry as a way to promote themselves. And until recently, Harry spoke very little about the band and had very little public interaction with them, so unless you paid very close attention, it was easy to think he didn’t care much for or about them. I think many fans do this weird thing of needing their fave to be “the best” — as if that somehow reflects on them, as well. Like, the way many Harries went overboard making sure Lloyd won best tour photographer only because they didn’t want Louis’ photographer to win. It’s ridiculous.

Some of the hatred towards Harry is rooted in jealousy because people feel he had an unfair advantage over the others, thus having a success the others could have had just as well. Some of the hate is people feeling as though he has the power to do whatever he wants in terms of his image and stunts, so he must be fake and only cares about fame and money. Some of it is people buying into the idea that Harry ended the band because he wanted to be a star and he’s actively trying to ruin Louis’ career. There are a million different reasons people send hate his way.

As for comparing the five of them, as you say, they all have different sounds and none of them compete with each other. But I do think Sony very much wants Harry to be the Justin Timberlake and be the only one who reaches that huge level of success. And the media doesn’t help because many of the articles are written in a way that praises Harry and puts the others down (for no reason at all), so fans feel defensive and lash out. I tend to think Liam, Niall, Louis, and Harry all care about each other very much and are supportive of each other. And I really doubt they like the articles that do that nor would they support the nasty way some of the fans behave.

Sorry this was so long. And at the same time, this barely touched the surface, but I hope it helped a little.

after the hiatus, i kind of drifted away from the boys. i didn't really listen to their solo singles nor did i conciously listen to 1d songs anymore. i lived life with small reminders here and there of 1d whenever i'd hear their songs on the radio or if my spotify playlist randomly plays one of their songs.

i remember in one of the most difficult exams in my law school life that i had to study for, i listened to their songs nonstop. that was one of the few times after the hiatus that i actually chose to listen to their songs. it was like taking a trip down memory lane.

throughout the years, however, i feel like i always knew that my 1d core, the directioner in me, still existed. within the deepest part of my soul is a 12 year old who will forever be crazy for one direction.

they were a reminder of a time in my life when i was genuinely happy. i remember i'd come home ready to go to work in this site and reblog the shit out of their shows. i joined many friends in trying to interpret each little interaction they had. so many small things that all add up to the best days of my life.

when zayn left, it broke my heart. i felt like it was a chapter of 1d closing because i knew that it was only a matter of time before they'd fully disbanded. they, after all, were ot5. they always had been and to have lost zayn in the middle of the OTRA tour-- my heart was starting to accept that we were nearing the end.

however, ot4 stayed (and slayed). they continued and fought strong because they knew how much they meant to the fans. despite losing zayn, they still made it work. i knew they were heartbroken too but they kept going for the fans, for all of us. i will forever be thankful for that.

i know in my heart that liam was a big part of why ot4 continued. he has always been the father of the group. he kept them together. he was arguably the one who interacted with the fans the most. he truly, truly loved one direction and the family they built. even to his last day, he held on to his brothers.

now, liam is gone. frankly, when i first heard about it, i didn't react. i read about it and was in denial, i think, for the whole day. i didn't really realize the impact of his loss. however, now the loss is consuming me. he was an integral part of my childhood and now he's just gone. how do you move past that?

our hearts are broken for we lost someone who was a very important part of our childhood. after years of not opening my tumblr account, i felt like i came home to my childhood friends. however, i never thought i'd come home to this.

i just want to say that i'm heartbroken and even that is an understatement. perhaps, one day, we'll be able to look back at this period with fondness. but as of now, i fucking hate this. i loathe the fact that we are grieving liam payne. he had so much more to do, he would've made more music, made more apologies, made more memories. i refuse to believe that he's just gone.

okay realistically i could just say one direction as a band, and then Harry, Louis, and Niall as solo artists for four of the five because i really do still love the music they made as a band and obviously i adore our boys as solo artists. but for the sake of actually giving an interesting answer, i'm not gonna name any members of one direction 😂 naming my top 5 is sooo hard because it's like being forced to pick my favorite children and my favorites change all the time but at the moment i'd say Three Days Grace (in particular the older stuff when Adam Gontier was still the lead singer, they've been a favorite of mine since my early teenage years), Bastille (Bad Blood is still such an elite album after a decade idc what anyone says), September Stories (they do a lot of spoken word stuff so it's a bit of an acquired taste but Every Word, Everything and Home have been in my top 100 songs on Spotify every year since I made my account), The Smiths (Morissey sucks as a person lol but his ability to turn his misery into absolutely gorgeous lyrics goes unmatched and Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want and There Is a Light That Never Goes Out both have such an otherworldly vibe to them), and Beth Crowley (she does a lot of songs inspired by books that I've never read but I really love the way her lyrics always tell a story and I wish she was more popular!!)

i know you didn't ask for all these details but i can't talk about my favorite artists without adding at least a few comments 😂 i could seriously talk about music all day so i'm loving that you asked this!! 🫶

okay so i’m loving the variety here ! a lot a lot !! i’m also now curious how one direction / solo 1d would rank ? just out of pure curiosity because i obviously can’t decipher based on your list here 😅

first, and always motha fkn first no matter what, green day. they are my everything, their music from 80s through to now has shaped me into who i am today, more than anything else. jesus of suburbia is the best song ever written, nothing will ever top it, like everyone else can stop trying, we have the best song ever, yall can go home 😂 then i’d say afi. fantastic band from the start, but their decemberunderground album is my favourite album of all time, so beautifully written. and fun fact, the only album that i have tattooed twice (or i should say once but getting the second next time i’m getting tatted) ! now we’re gonna flip things a tiny bit, and go with steve miller band, hands downs the BEST stoner music ever. they have the vinyls i reach for most, it’s just such a fkn vibe, i adore it !! (also sliding in an honourable mention for oasis, because that’s another vinyl i’m always reaching for when stoned 😅). fourth, i would say good charlotte, simply because they are fkn fantastic, and their young and the hopeless album is the one album i turn to constantly when life is hard and it just resets me, idk what it is 😂. and then in fifth, i’m going with our lady peace, i feel like they’re super underrated but they have some fkn bangers, they deserve more love ! and then i’m throwing in an honourable mention to counting crows because that 90s vibe is unmatched, and it brings me so much nostalgia for easier times.

And her revealing that she is essentially not as "experienced" as Harry, is a really nice way of how they were both so obsessed with "love" that they took two completely routes, and ya know what I love that! Of course it hurt knowing how she was starting to feel insecure because of those rumors and how it brought up bad memoires :( Also kinda crazy I also experienced something like that with a guy in high school, thankfully though I was not even close to being in love lol BUT STILL NO MATTER WHAT THAT HURTS AND I FEEL FOR HER!

I have a feeling since we're so similar that you're probably spiraling unnecessarily (I don't mean this in a bad way. Obvs I LITERALLY understand.) I studied REALLY hard for exams and I always did really well and everyone in my life made fun of me for stressing because they knew I was going to do well too. But for whatever reason they never understood that like ? I have to study for me to know all this?? Idk sometimes I worry I don't make the best friendship choices. Or the most understanding friendship choices if that makes sense. (But we can unpack that another day) HEY HOW'S HOT PROFESSOR?

I don't blame you for not getting into 1D at all. Worst financial, social, and mental decision of my life 😭 I had just come off a HARD Twilight fixation and I was like "I don't need another obsession." But then I watched the WMYB music video and it was like the universe was all "MWAHAHAHAHA"

Snow days are actually really lovely. They add on to the end of the school year which is ANNOYING. But they're pretty nice in the moment. Especially when you DON'T lose power from the storm and can do whatever you want. Especially on a TUESDAY 😍 mid-week days off are the BEST.

I am so glad you liked MFT Part 2. I thought it was very BLEH by the end of it. The whole inexperienced thing was kind of random? I am interested to see where my brain takes me. The heart of the story that I had planned out after listening to the song was basically parts 1 and 2 so I'm going to have to get creative for parts 3 and 4 hehehehehe I'm glad you find it sweet 💕 that's definitely the goal of this one after an angsty little Italian restaurant couple 😉

Anon asking about why you´re not solo H stan here again. Okay, I totally understand everything you wrote and I get it. If I was there during 1D days I would probably feel the same. But I wasn´t nowhere near and back in the day I only knew WMYB because in 2012 I was watching Olympics closing ceremony (2 week before I actually flew to London for vacation and so that song kind of is connected with that vacation in my mind) and knew the hysteria around their shows because randomly I got to see a video where teen girls responded to the fact that their parents bought them tickets to their show (which was probably sold out in a minute? what I understood). But I hadn´t care about them at all.

I became a fan in Dec 2018, I don´t even know how it started but I was listening to HS1 when I was going through some tough time and his Remeber everything´s gonna be alright, we can meet again somewhere, somewhere far away from here (and basically whole SOTT which was the first song I played) just helped me get through it. But until July 2022 it was always about his music than him as a singer/person/Harry StylesTM.

The thing is that besides I just love his songs - and I even love them more when I became larrie and realized most of them are about Louis - and some of them are connected with some specific moments. Whole Fine Line album is basically my Christmas album thanks to the time when it was released. As It Was came out a week after I came back from London - which was my first abroad trip after pandemic/since May 2019 + I was so scared to travel there because it was also a month after war in Ukraine began which made me extra anxious and I was basically living in fear. So as that trip in London was like a first full deep inhale after the long hibernation and letting go my fears and anxiety, hearing that song (and basically seeing him coming back to life - because I didn´t see it coming how much I wasn´t following him in any way) immediatelly connected to that moment and it will be connected forever. And last March I was in Berlin and my mind kept playing Golden and Grapejuice on repeat whole trip and so it´s also connected to it and it will always take me there - early spring in sunny Berlin.

But anyway that´s just him as an artist/singer/songwriter. I´m not buying anthing else from him and his fashion icon/multitalented/the most successful one/etc etc etc because I know it´s not because of him but because of his team and people around him. Only the best people in the industry because he´s Sony´s golden goose/puppet. And until there won´t be any equal competitor (because currently there isn´t any male singer who will compete with him and his image since Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes went on hiatus and there´s noone new) they will invest in him until one day someone younger and prettier and more fashionable will enter and so everyone will move on and Harry will become our indie artist lmao.

It's so funny how SOTT is so traumatic to me and so comforting to you! I think for us who's been here since the 1D days we've all had to find ways to cope and to justify still being a fan to ourselves. We've had several moments were we all had to pause and consider why we're here. Like on bullshit day, 1d hiatus announcement, the bg announcement etc. There's been so many shit things happening and alot of people have left because their boundary was reached. Nothing in this fandom is black and white. I don't blame anyone for their coping mechanisms, if that's going to a show, not going to a show or giving them money or not giving them money. We all have our limits, our boundaries and our morals. We cope differently and you need to find what works best for you. Find out how you can be a fan despite the bullshit. There is no right or wrong way.

okay, i have a funny story. when 1d formed as a band, i was eleven years old. my classmates were obsessed with them. so i was like "i won't be like the other girls" and i was showing disinterest every time someone was talking about them (but at the same time i was secretly blasting more than this. the only reason i love that song that much, was because of niall and louis' solos). and i listened to their songs occasionally on the music tv channels (their singles). and for the time the band was still touring and making albums, i just didn't vibe with them, and even think about them. when zayn left the bad, i read it somewhere and that was all. but when the next year mind of mine came out, i fell in love with his voice. so, all in all, i would say zayn. i have been listening to his music for years and i just have really soft spot for him in my heart. 🫐

Hi! Ya I totally agree that festivals are probably exhausting especially if you went to all days. I've always kinda wanted to go to one though and I like that there are a lot of different artists. I've always wanted to go to Outsidelands or maybe Coachella one day just to see what it's like and for the experience so it's still cool that you got to go! I'd be worried about the weather too.

So music for me is a lot easier than watching TV shows. I try to and basically listen to everything cuz I like all genres and always listen to new music. I am pretty familiar with most artists. If you recommend some artists you like, I will definitely check them out and add it to my long list haha. So I like everything but my favorite artists are the ones who I've loved for a long time and sometimes kinda from the beginning of their career. My top two are Taylor and Twenty One Pilots though..for their music, and being in the fandom, which are the only two that are like that where I'm obsessed and know a lot about them. Taylors my favorite and they are my sister's favorite. Then Paramore and a Canadian artist called Lights are two more I've been a fan of since like 2009. Then other alternative or emo bands like MCR, Panic at the Disco and Fall Out Boy..but it's not really my everyday music anymore. My favorite kind of music is alternative. I'm also a big fan of The Smiths and The Cure's music and the guitar in their music and their lyrics. Best Coast and Soccer Mommy are two other artists where I love pretty much every single song from them and some of my favorite artists ever now..and I was also kind of a fan from the beginning. The lead singer of Best Coast actually just put out her own solo album last week so that's something I've been playing recently. I also love all of Hayley Williams solo music and Best Coast and Soccer Mommy are kinda similar to Paramores music if that helps. I also like Beabadoobee who opened for Taylor too. I'm also a fan of pop music..and any like singer songwriter girl I will pretty much check out. I loved Carly Rae's last albums and Tori Kelly just put out an EP. I've been a fan of Kelly Clarkson for a long time too and her last album was so good. I'm also a fan of anyone from 1D. I like Sabrina, Gracie, Maisie, and anyone who Taylor recommends usually, like Haim and Phoebe too. I'm excited for Olivia Rodrigo and Holly Humberstone's albums. I also love Broadway and musicals a lot lol. Also Jeremy Jordan is in a band now called Age of Madness and I liked every song from the EP. The only genre I don't really care for is EDM Rap or country..but I still enjoy girl country artists too.

The Barbie house recreated on stage would be so amazing!!! That's so cool that you talked about Smash with someone while you were there haha. I loved the music on the show and omg I forgot about the Bombshell musical. The only thing I kinda knew about the Some Like it Hot musical besides the Tony wins and the plot from the movie was apparently they reused the song Lets Be Bad in the show.

.I think Newsies would be such a cool show to watch live and I like all of the casts too anyway. I missed Waitress on tour but I would have wanted to see that one too. It's another show where all of the cast is good but each performer makes the character a little different. I liked Jessie, Sara, Katharine McPhee and Nicolette too from clips I saw. Drew Gehling and Jeremy were the best Pommaters to me. I wonder who was the cast for the proshot and when it was coming out.

The Notebook musical sounds interesting though with the sets and stuff. Hopefully they can improve it when it does come to Broadway. Movie adaptations are always kinda tricky or cash grabby too, and then it's hard to put songs in or they end up forgettable..or they change it a bit from the original movie .Something like The Bands Visit, Legally Blonde, Waitress, and Beetlejuice and Moulin Rouge are ones I thought worked pretty well. Also did you hear about or what are your thoughts on the new Gatsby musical? It's starring Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada!!!

hellooooo friend! i was telling everyone i know that i'll never do another music festival again, but then my best friend was like "wait but i really want to go to one someday" so i guess i am going to at least one more music festival in my lifetime. the things we do for the people we love! i think outside lands might be chiller than lolla, so i'm thinking i might do that with her at some point depending on the lineup? the lineup this year looks really good; i was looking at it a while ago before landing on lolla — there's a bit of overlap with lolla artists (including my girl holly!!) but there's also conan gray, who i'd love to see live, and inhaler (who i saw live earlier this year), and samia (who i wish i'd gotten to see earlier this year, but things just didn't quite work out). music is also easier for me than tv shows! especially since i can listen to them while i work! i like beabadoobee — she was fun to see live at lolla! she's actually coming to seattle in a few days i think, but i decided to pass on her concert just because i've spent too much money lately (especially on live music). i'm so so excited for holly humberstone, i feel like i've been waiting on her debut for ages. some other people i've been listening to lately are: griff, grace enger (who is opening for maisie on her us tour; her album just came out yesterday), cate canning, gretta ray (who has an album out next week), claire rosinkranz (who opened for maisie's aftershow), the japanese house, renee rapp, charli xcx, haim, muna, lily kincade, clairo, isabel pless, del water gap, lizzy mcalpine, etc.! i had no idea that jeremy jordan is in a band now; i'll have to go look it up later! ooh i didn't realize that! i haven't kept up with SLIH at all but i've had friends go and say it was amazing, and the choreo was beautifully done! i just have not really been paying attention to broadway lately </3 i loveeee drew gehling's pomatter; i know some people think he got stale near the end but i was always charmed by him haha. i do have a soft spot for drew though because he was in roman holiday! i've seen links for the proshot floating around but i've never seen it; i really should sit down and watch it some day. ooh yes! all the ones you listed were great movie → musical adaptations, and i'd also add once, sing street, and amelie to list (among others)! i think it's just like ... the newer/more recent ones feel very ... underdone/cashgrabby/like they're just churning out musicals to have them if that makes sense? i am very intrigued about the gatsby musical, especially since there's two — it'll be a very "wild party" situation again i think! i'm very curious to see how jeremy jordan and eva noblezada play off each other (esp. since he's quite a bit older than her). i actually really love gatsby; my english teacher was phenomenal the year we read gatsby and made me really appreciate analyzing text/annotating/etc. more! i cannot waittttt to see the costumes and set (i'm a very visual person!) what about you? what do you think of it?

take me home: getting a little more risqué -- we are "[taking] it all the way". whoa! in addition to expressing lust there's more themes of jealousy, as well as genuine tenderness. aurally more diverse than their debut. best lyric: I can't compete with your boyfriend cuz he's got 27 TATTOOOOOS. so specific... 3.7/5

midnight memories: my favorite 1d song is on this album which is the story of my life which is genuinely so beautiful and moving. just a really lovely timeless song. best lyric is actually the concept of best song ever, which is not in fact the best song ever, but merely a description of the experience of listening to the best song ever. 4/5

4: as mc pointed out this album shares a title with beyonces best album. I will say that I was confused because there are five members of one direction, until I realized 4 is in fact about the number that the album is and not the number of lads present. anyway. this is genuinely a fantastic album. steal my girl is the platonic ideal of a pop song. girl almighty is just fucking GOOD. i fucking love it. its dynamic and genuine and fucking bops above all. night changes. night changes. night changes. night changes. the nostalgia it conjures, and I never even ate spaghetti with Zayn. no control is WONDERFUL vibe wise. and the whole album SOUNDS so 2014. this album really is freshman year of college. act my age is just fucking wonderful, an anthem (and sorry but the comparison must be made -- better than when I'm 64). 6/5. boy bands at their peak. pop at its peak. you don't get better than this album

made in the am: I was GUTTED to see Zayn is not on this album, but good for him. I wish he'd make more solo music bc his first album slapped but I understand that hes busy being a dilf these days. still. I said you don't get better than 4, but you do, and it's made in the am. its still got that boy band pep but it's branching out into actual vibes. I am so sad retroactively that they broke up bc 4 and made in the am are IT. 10/5. pop album of all time

reflections: 1d is so unpretentious. obviously that's the point of a boyband in a lot of ways, but it's just refreshing to hear something uncomplicated and there's no bad words and nothing but these curated, shimmering performances of emotion. and each one of these emotions lasts about 3 minutes and 35 seconds. its perfectly contained! I love these songs also because by the second chorus you already know all the words and the tune which is PRIME sing along material. I do think its interesting how curated the album covers are. they are having such an insanely good time in them because if they don't have a good time they're not going to get to get their daily ration of tesco brand digestive cookies. its so easy to be a hater on this cold bitch of an earth but one of my fave concert experiences really was in the year 2021 screaming the lyrics to what makes you beautiful with harry "its like a movie that's a movie" styles. I loved this experience and all the new bops I found. I foresee them to be the perfect antidote for dissociating on my morning commute.

Liam’s podcast with Steve Bartlett is out and while I still don’t care about that guy I’ll give him this-- he does great at getting out of the way and letting Liam talk. And boy does Liam talk! Liam says A LOT and let’s all just pause to send him some big hugs before we get into right? And then look to the future- Liam’s routine is to say ‘things have been terrible but it’s fine, it’s fine NOW’, always, even when that is absolutely obviously not true, and today is no different but for once I actually believe some of his hopeful bits too which is so great! I hope things really are shifting for him and I can’t wait to hear this new song of his. But there’s a lot that’s hard to hear too, oh Liam. He said that he and Maya have broken up (so yes, presumably why he just moved again such a short time after they moved into their haunted house), talked about his struggles with his alcoholism (and said he’s been sober for a month right now, go babe!), shared the usual distressing stories about his time in the band and what that was like for him (and how it still impacts him), and he talked about his new song and how it feels different for him than his past solo music. Truly though there is SO MUCH more than I can get into here or then you can get from the UA highlights- I HIGHLY recommend actually watching at least parts of the video, also because the attempt to summarize so much erases all the charm and humor, of which there is much. If you don’t think you want to watch Liam’s interviews, it has to be because you aren’t watching Liam’s interviews, they’re delightful! Plus really if you care about 1D and want information about what it was like for any of them, listen to Liam, he’s the one who’s out there talking about it.

About Maya he said, that yes, he is now single, and “I’ve just been not been very good at relationships,” and “I’m a proper perfectionist… at the start of the relationship you put out this complete false character like I might as well go in in costume, I’m like putting out something that is not there... kind of like encompassing someone else’s life with your crap rather than just doing your thing and laying out your store from day one. That’s my biggest problem is that I feel like I don’t lay out my store... and then I’m annoyed when they don’t like what I like,” and “I think my problem is I struggle to be on my own sometimes... I dive in and out of relationships too quickly. I’ve not spent enough time on my own to relearn about myself.”

He laughs about his tendency to ask his manager things during interviews; “My fans think that Steve is doing something to me, they’re like liberty for Liam because he always looks to Steve, but that’s because I like him. It’s not because he’s harming me as a person. There’s like a hashtag Liberty for Liam because they think I’m some like prison child,” and he also said “my manager’s my best friend,” (and he’s said in the past he is a big support for him) and mentioned stuff they’d talked about recently around his therapeutic awakenings.

He talked about therapy being something you have to want to do and be ready to do rather than being pushed into, like getting sober, and says that this time around with his own therapy work he’s really felt that and thrown himself into it and he talked a lot about his relationship to therapy in connection with band days. “I mean one of our old managers went to therapy from being a manager of One Direction. So if you can imagine how that feels like the rest of us definitely need some.”

“We were young,” he said, “What I found was I didn’t know I was the boss until like a few months ago, I still don’t even feel like I am now, like I’m such a child. And everyone I work with now is older than me and wiser than me and I’m like what the hell am I doing here with these people. When we were 17 I thought the security guard was like in charge of me so I was like Can we leave the room? No? Oh ok then,” and “when we were in the band, the best way to secure us was just lock us in our rooms. And of course what’s in the room? Minibar. So at a certain point, I thought Well I’m gonna have a party for one and that just seemed to carry on throughout many years of my life... You know I spoke to somebody about this in child development as a teen, the one thing you need is freedom to make choices. That we could do anything we wanted it seemed from the outside but we were always locked in a room at night and then it would be car, hotel room, stage, sing, locked. So it’s like they pulled the dust cloth off, let us out for a minute, but then it’s back underneath again,” and “the day the band ended I was like thank the lord for that. And I know a lot of people are going to be mad with me for saying that, but I needed it to stop. It would kill me.” Anyway, he said, because it wouldn’t be Liam without an upbeat coda, “I don’t want any of this to get lost in translation. I’m not 100% moaning about my life... it’s had its ups and its downs, but I would rather talk about it and it’s therapeutic for me.”

And what about that exciting new song? Liam said, “We have a really cool song in the pipeline... one of the first ones I’ve actually written myself- with some other people, I didn’t write it by myself, but it’s the first one I’ve really liked. And I think I got so used used carting around other peoples songs and not embedding myself creatively in what I do because I was so scared to find out who I was,” and “I don’t really know how I would tour again. I really want to” [on discord today he said he would be touring next year] “I always said throughout my solo career I’d let my song book speak to me. And I don’t think my song book spoke to me to get off my ass. I only became a solo artist because I had Strip That Down. I wasn’t gonna do it, I was gonna leave it alone. I was like, I survived it once thank you very much- but I’m back in now. Because the song, I knew it was right. It felt right with that song, I hadn’t had that. This year, the song we have I feel really really great about. So I’d rather let the music do the talking than me come out and force it. We don’t need any more useless music in the world, it needs to mean something,” and he mentioned the new song on the discord a lot too, most notably picking out a long comment that thanked him for making the fan feel supported and safe and for “putting your heart in everything you do” and for his support of the LGBTQ community to respond to with, “I think you will really like the new song.”

A few other random bits, he said that he thinks there should be a system to make therapy available to musicians in the industry, “I think I’m definitely gonna get a dog because I need routine,” and “I recently started jujitsu,” yeah you and everyone else huh, so do him and Louis and Oli go to the same gym or ???, and he acknowledged that as an addict he may have just transferred that to working out “but there’s a lot worse things to be addicted to then looking after yourself” hmm but he does seem to say that he’s doing better around body image stuff; he talks about having put on weight during lockdown and seeing himself in the BAFTAS performance- “I saw myself... and I was like ‘oh my god I’ve completely let myself go in this’. And it was fine...I feel so much more secure in myself now.” Oh and that he’s written a comedic movie script “based around AA” and his experiences there, such as how “I had a really weird AA experience the first time that I went. My first experience was with Russell Brand.” LMAO yes! Cannot wait, bring on auteur Liam please! Anyway as if ALL THAT wasn’t enough he’s also dove into the lead up to his NFT release; he said “I'm almost ready to share my NFTs with you guys... Who wants to see them?” and posted a tiny preview that tells us its (their?) title for the first time- Lonely Bug.

Niall and Anne Marie perform on Jimmy Fallon tonight, and the hype is already a go! I guess it’s prerecorded, as we’re already seeing pictures from it; they’re singing to each other with the cute car from the video in the background. Niall signed on to a letter to Boris Johnson asking for changes to music streaming revenue rules and signed by 232 artists (including all the artists Johnson recently named as his favorites, haha). Zayn signed on to a Billboard petition to the US senate calling for gun safety laws. The bar Zayn got into the fight in front of posted “Zayn's a regular at Amsterdam Billiards and he is a true gentleman. On Thursday night he was confronted by an inebriated passer-by outside on the street and was called a homophobic slur. We support Zayn & condemn homophobia in the strongest terms!” And also PS omg again because it just isn’t going away: Harry’s beauty company is called Pleased As, his name is Harry Edward Styles so yes when listed last name first, as legal documents do, it spells SHE but it is not a “feminist abbreviation” (WHAT? even??) nor the name of the business.

aw thank you! I haven't been really for so long either.

long story short, I was a very annoying teen growing up and I thought I was too cool for pop music lmao. still, in 2014 I met my friend who made me realize pop music was actually good and he was a huge 1D fan so I became a fan too (very casual though) and was super aware of larry being a thing but I never really got into it. after the band was over I kept following their solo careers and was obsessed especially with zayn's first album (befour was my most listened song in 2016 lmao) and with niall's too. eventually when harry released hs1 I also became obsessed with it too but I never really thought to look closer at his personal life. it was only when lights up, and eventually fine line came out that I became super interested, because louis, who I hadn't really heard anything about since 2015, was also releasing an album and for some reason that got me curious. and it helped that I was working at this job where I was miserable (lol) and I had this coworker who was a friend but only a work friend then (she is my best friend now awww and it's all because of larry), and we found ourselves making the best of a very bad situation and we started reading about harry, louis and larry, and eventually we ended up on twitter and on twitter people were like "no because TUMBLR is the real deal, you won't SURVIVE tumblr" and I was like "well damn guess I need to go back to tumblr," and then obviously I found all the masterposts and everything else and never looked back, and I've been here ever since (although I only started posting and reblogging stuff maybe in sep 2020? The restaurant was small and bright, soft colors filled the walls and tables and fairy lights hung from everywhere. From what Harry had read, the food wasn’t overly expensive but it was still comparable to what you would get at one of the more expensive places. If Harry could he would take Louis to the biggest most expensive and extravagant restaurants to do what he planned to tonight, but this would do.

After being led to their table Harry nervously tapped his jacket pocket, sighing in relief when he felt the small box still there. Tonight was the night. He couldn’t wait till it was time to surprise Louis with all the gifts he got for him. Then finally the big surprise.

something i’m kinda curious about is: how would you rank the 4 other members of one direction based on looks and personality or talent? do / did you like anyone else besides harry?

i wasn't around for 1d i only started listening to their music after i discovered harry in july, and i actually love most of it!

based on looks, zayn is much more my type than harry in real life. i have a weakness for tall dark handsome and of course zayn is as handsome as a fallen angel. but that being said, harry is much more attractive to me which only goes to prove that looks aren't everything. yes he is also gorgeous but he is not my type at all normally i can't even explain it. looks wise, louis comes next. that peaky blinders haircut era hello? he's short for my liking but he makes up for it with that ass 👀 niall and liam i am not at all into looks wise though

personality wise, louis is very close to how i am. i always say he's my spirit animal. i love his sense of humour, his sarcasm, his rude ass and his strong character. unfortunately, zayn, niall and liam i'm not a big fan of personality wise. won't go into detail as to why cuz i don't wanna get cancelled 🤣

talent wise, i still feel zayn has the best voice. his talent is unreal. then comes niall, liam and louis. yes louis may not have the best live voice but it has a very special quality to it, it's something that immediately stands out and you don't hear it everyday. and in terms of songwriting he takes the cake.

i enjoy all their solo music honestly (maybe liam's not as much, it's not my style at all) but i don't really keep up with them individually the way i do with harry
