(so mm. i’m working on BTAS scarebat fic atm, an’ my brain thought that i can also sit down an’ begin drawing smth related to that around 3 in the morning 6 days ago, bc why not.

nothing here is related to the plot of the story i’m working on. or well, not directly at least. i’d say, that i consider this collage of arts as ‘circle’ of their possible relationships in a way. including the ‘circle’ of their expressions an’ what can be or cannot be seen, regarding bruce’s shadowy batman mode an’ how in two arts, jon’s expression is hidden from the view. this all has an extra, tiny bit of a meaning. about which i’m on my way to ramble about. i have some of that good shippy energy inside my weary bones today! what a day!

but alright, so the first one *at the very top* is smth of a scarebat classic to me. snap picture centered on the idea, that even if they will have close an’ intimate relationships, jonathan still be jonathan, basically. still, be somewhat poisonous an’ dangerous to keep this near, even if he’s gentle of the bat back. an’ bruce even knowing all this, still gets tangled into it, as’ their ‘natures’ clash like that. as they are two ‘monsters’ of the night. two people with ideas, that feel larger than they are. this might be a moment in one of their 'fear battles', where bruce is pissed off, or well, righteously angry as i call it, while jonathan faces him an’ what kind of expression he makes is anyone’s guess, but it’s prob an evil one. even if personally, imagine it more whimsical. less dramatic evil an' more campy evil. the whole villainous monologue about how crane aches for bruce to actually see things his way for once. fear is nessasery for everything. it's not just passion of his. it can be smth so much greater. in other words, i think, that jon might attempt to coax batman into joining his case. bruce would not join, but it's still worth a try.

the second one *lower right* is low-key based on AU idea that i have or that be used for any version scarebat tbh. it's kinda universal an' bendy. the mere chance of ‘what if’, bruce mets jonathan before he becomes scarecrow *he will still become one still later tho*, an’ he pretty much seeks his ‘help’ as batman. i imagine, that this can happen early in bruce’s vigilante career, when he an’ gordon ain’t buddies yet an’ bruce need some assistance from time to time. or maybe, he needed jon’s help for one case an’ then, they kinda got on a friendly terms an’ it progressed from there. in this version, i think, jon would try to ‘hold back’ a bit, when it comes to his fear experiments. mostly bc he knows, that bruce won't like him doing smth like this. or he can think, that it can be a bit too early to try an' ease him up to idea of basically psychologically torturing people to progress the science lol. batman is an imposing, terrefying symbol of justice. but in crane's eyes, he's also a soft-ish kind of boy. cannot do smth nasty, just so that it will serve a greater good. anyhow, smth still goes wrong. crane still gets fired, bc even if the bat was none the wiser to what he was doing, his collegues were. which in the end, lead to bruce an' jon having a fight about it. an’ after that, jon pretty much disappears from the radar *like most of BTAS rogues do, when they're about to rebrand from normal citizen into a masked villain lol* an’ returns 2-3 years later as the scarecrow. with all of that in mind, in this AU, crane will have a clear advantage over batman at first, as he used to known him prior to this. an’ he got to see him work / talk, learned a few things about him, while the bat won’t instantly know that scarecrow is jonathan. but i imagine, he will figure this out fairly quickly. not only bc crane is short an’ thin an' obssessed with fear. but bruce also was around the other man a lot an’ considering how ambiguous their relationships were at one point, he also watched crane back. this art captures more sweet moment between the two, howerer. them having heart to heart or maybe, jon thought that bruce had died or rumors had it that he was serious injured in some fight against a villain an’ he was relieved to learn, that it’s not so. can be anything, honestly. regardless, jonathan hides his expression from batman, an’ bruce have his ‘game face on’, as they both don’t deal with vulnerability very well *also idk how do draw the back of jon’s head yet, but i gave it my best shot lol*

the next one *the lower left* is also a classic set up in my eyes an' also my fav art out of the bunch. this 'scene' can be connected to AU above, as in: batman takes his once-a-friend, who is also his-love-interest an’ his-new-rogue to arkham, after jon lost the fight. or as i drawn it, this is an imaginary of ‘what if BTAS did a justice to dark knight of scarecrow comic’. what if we got batman an’ scarecrow personal fight an’ bruce end up carrying jon all romantically into the sunset at the end, like he did in that issue. bruce face here is all shadowy like in the actual comic scene, an’ while i’m not sure if i managed to capture my intention with this one kinda well or not, the idea behind this exact ‘head portrait’ was to get a bit of a mixture between bruce’s unmasked features, his batman persona an’ also a bat-monster creature *that all versions of jonathan seen him as, at least once* it’s a bit of reflection on all of it. on who bruce is, who criminals see him as, an' what jon sees him at, when he's high on ft. in some capacity bruce is all of those things. or rather, they're all part of the same man. as bruce’s core will always be rooted in empathy. an' BTAS bruce is basically a golden standard of batman writing, when it comes to bruce wayne as character an' that very trait esp. so yeah, this art is nod toward that an' more broad approach to what could have been, if they given jon at least one more ep, where he an' batman would have been in focus. i imagined, that in this art bruce carries jonathan from whatever location they had fight in, an’ it’s like early morning, so there is mist. bruce walks an’ reminicents on fights an’ waste of jon’s brilliant mind, along with other things. expression close to melancholic. meanwhile, crane is out cold. an’ it’s one of those rare lax, relaxed expressions that he has, opposite to his sneers, smirks or frowns. as he's only ever in peace, when his mind isn't active. what a nightmare, indeed *mostly for bruce* so sweet dreams, spooky prince. may the big bad bat guard your slumber.

an' finally, the last art *at the very bottom* which shows jonathan during his staying in arkham. in BTAS he had long sleeved uniform, but i think, in the comics based on the series, he been seen in a gray shirt a few times. so i decided to give him that lol. this can also be connected with AU, i mentioned. like, that bruce will still come back to his old friend, even if those visits are somewhat painful. i guess, it will be even worse than when bruce has to interact with harvey as batman. but this also can be smth unrelated to that. for example, bruce needing crane’s assistance on smth, without them having any history between them, besides the canonical one. or it can be them, being in relationships an’ jon is kinda being difficult. each of his progress is shaky an’ he pretty much slips back into his old ways, as soon as he goes out of arkham. but whatever the set up is, jonathan is more accepting of his situation, or rather about what he is. while bruce is kinda torn about it. can hold him close, but cannot truly mend his mind. i also have a feeling like crane tells him smth fear related. be it his assessment onto bruce’s state or their whole ‘thing’. but whatever it is, this isn't a very pleasant talk for bruce.

an’ oh yeah, instead of using song lyrics like i usually do, i used shakespeare’s sonnet for this. an' it's one of my most favorite ones as well. i had to cut out the middle, bc i disliked how it looked. but you can go an' read the whole thing, if you will ever feel like it. i mean, that's fairly short one. but i honestly think, this fits them *an' generally scarebat as a ship* very well.)

Steve's Day Care for Big Kids

When Steve used to say he wanted to be a dad, he never thought it would end up like this. He'd never guess there would be so many kids, or that they'd be so big. 

"Steve! Steve!"

He looks up from where he's helping Jon and Argyle assemble a brick house. 

"What's up, Robbie?"

"Look!" 

She shoves a coloring page in his face to show off her favorite superhero, Spider-Gwen, clad in pink and orange hues of a lesbian flag. 

"That's a cool idea!" he praises her. "And you barely went out of the lines!"

"Thanks!" Robin grins. "Can I get a gold star?" She blinks up at him all innocent and child-like. 

To draw out the suspense, Steve strokes his non-existent beard thoughtfully, making loud humming sounds to really sell it. Argyle giggles at his antics, and he can see Jon is smiling too. 

"Will a rainbow star suffice?" he eventually asks. 

"Yes!" Robin agrees immediately, so Steve pulls a tiny sticker box from his pocket and lets her have her pick. 

"Ready for a snack break?" he asks as she looks through the assortment of stars. "Or do you wanna color some more?"

Robin visibly deflates at the question. 

"I have to go home," she sighs, looking at the colorful clock above them.

Steve makes an exaggerated pout. 

"I'll grab you a juice box for the road and walk you out," he says, raising up from his seat and groaning in pain to the enjoyment of his kids. "We'll see if you'll be laughing when you're my age!" he scolds them playfully. 

The daycare is an open space with designated areas for playing, reading, and eating. Steve leaves the soft carpet of the playroom for the cold tiles of the small kitchen annex.

"Apple?" he asks, opening the small fridge in the corner. 

"Apple."

"Can I have orange?" someone pipes up from behind. 

"I want orange too!" 

"Robin is getting one because she's leaving early," Steve patiently informs the other kids. "We'll all have a snack break in ten minutes, okay?"

The scattered group choruses their 'okays' with varying enthusiasm.

"Now everyone say 'bye' to Robin."

"Bye, Robin!" The chorus is more unison this time.

Robin slaps the star sticker on a folder full of her other drawings and coloring pages, puts it back on her shelf, and grabs her juice. 

Outside the playroom, there is a waiting space, with cozy armchairs, a drink station, and some magazines. Robin falls on one of the chairs while Steve pours her some tea from a thermos and goes to grab her jacket.

"Did you have fun today?" he asks, sitting next to her to gently scratch at her head.

"Yes, Steve." She rolls her eyes. "I always have fun here. Do you want me to fill out a customer experience survey?"

Steve perks up, looking around.

"Actually, I should have them here somewhere."

Robin swats his knee.

"Go back to the others, I'll finish my tea and leave in a bit."

"You sure?" 

"Yeah, yeah." She waves her hand dismissively. "I'm too stressed about the interview to get in the zone today."

"I know you'll kill it." Steve squeezes her knee. 

"What I'll kill is myself if I have to spend one more day reading through the same, unrealistic job descriptions."

"Robs!" Steve hisses, looking at the closed door to the play room. "The kids may hear you!"

"The kids have probably heard worse."

"Yeah, but not here!" He widens his eyes incredulously. Then he breaks into a smile. "Okay, I'm going back to work. Good luck with the interview." He rustles her hair once more. 

"Thanks. Good luck with Eddie."

Steve flips her off before re-entering the playroom.

He gets jump-scared immediately by the quiet figure of Jonathan standing behind the door. 

"Jesus, Jon!" He clutches at his chest. "You scared me."

"Ten minutes is up," the kid points out unapologetically, briefly glancing at the clock. "It's snack break."

"Yeah, okay, sheesh. I'll get you your snacks."

From the fridge, he pulls out a whole pack of juice boxes and hands them over to the small group gathered around his desk. 

"Can I have two?" asks Chrissy, a blonde girl in a princess tiara. Steve raises his eyebrow.

"And where's Eddie?" he asks.

"Reading," she shrugs. 

"Eddie should know by now that a snack break means a break from reading too," Steve says, handing her one juice box before standing up. "I'll go get him, you can sit with the others."

Chrissy frowns but nods, joining the group around the eating table where bowls full of fruits are waiting for them. Meanwhile, Steve walks over to the corner by the window, with bean bags and pillows and shelves full of books. Eddie is sitting there, fully immersed in one of the comics. Next to him is a book with fairies on the cover, a fluffy bookmark sticking out of it—probably Chrissy's pick for the day.

He stops for a while, smiling at the sight the kid made. With his tattoos, wild hair, torn jeans and chains, sitting among fluffy pillows and colorful designs of the kindergarten, he stands out even more than the others. Definitely way more than his best friend Chrissy, who likes to put on tutus, fairy wings and tiaras when in the daycare.

Steve knocks on the window frame, attracting Eddie's attention. His big brown eyes look up from the book reluctantly. 

"We're having a snack break, come sit with us."

"Can I finish my comic first?" Eddie asks with a pout to his lips. But Steve can see he's only halfway through. 

"If you join us now, you can finish it during nap time," he bargains. 

The boy's eyes widen, but then squint suspiciously. 

"Really?"

"I promise." Steve places a hand on his heart. He knows how much Eddie hates the naps. By the time he winds down enough to actually rest, the others are usually getting up, ready to leave. 

"Hmmm, okay," Eddie graciously agrees, bookmarking his comic with a crooked paper dragon he's made a week ago, and places it on top of Chrissy's book. When Steve holds out his hand, he eyes it for a moment before accepting it.

"Atta boy!" Steve smiles, pulling him up. "Let's get some sugar in you." He walks him to the eating table holding his hand and grabs an orange juice box on the way. There's a space next to Chrissy waiting for him, but he scoots more so Steve can fit too. 

"Here." Steve hands him the juice and sits next to them, grabbing a banana for himself. 

"Thanks, dad," Eddie answers reflexively and freezes, eyes wide. 

Steve just pats his shoulder, ignoring the ache in his chest.

"Don't worry, it happens. I call you my kids all the time."

"Really?" Eddie throws him a distrustful glance, his ears red. 

"Really. I take care of you here, so it feels natural."

None of the other kids react to Eddie's slip up, except for Chrissy, who grins wide and kicks him under the table. Eddie kicks back. 

"No kicking!"

Steve knows he shouldn't let his kids continue activities during nap time. They don't have to sleep, but this time should be spent winding down and resting, getting ready to transition back into the adult world outside. There's the waiting area for that, too, but what would be a kindergarten without nap time anyway? And once that is done, everyone is hurrying to their families, jobs, and responsibilities. Though they do stop sometimes to exchange contacts or simply continue chatting about their favorite dinosaurs over coffee.

But, true to his promise, he lets Eddie set his blanket next to Steve's bean bag and open his comic. In an act of solidarity, he grabs his own book too, making Eddie smile. 

Steve doesn't wake up his attendees as a rule unless he needs to close up or has been asked beforehand. So he watches a few people stir up and quietly leave after half an hour, others switching to quiet meditation for the next 15 minutes, and when those start to leave, whoever's left usually blinks their eyes open. 

Almost an hour passes when the last person, Chrissy, leaves, waving to them both. Steve looks down at Eddie, who sluggishly waves back, rubbing his eye.

"You should have taken a nap."

"Dun' wanna."

"Uh huh. I can see that."

Eddie glowers at him, but with the childish petulance and being wrapped in a star blanket on the floor, it doesn't do much damage. 

Needless to say, Eddie seems reluctant to leave the child headspace, and Steve has a soft spot for him, so he's going to let him stay in it for a little longer. 

"Do you want to help me clean up?"

"No," Eddie says, but gets up with a yawn, and starts to fold his blanket anyway. Steve shakes his head fondly. 

Together they put away the discarded toys, fold the blankets and put them in the designated cubicles. Without being asked for one, Steve puts a bright yellow star on Eddie's shirt. 

"For helping out." He smiles.

"Thanks!" Eddie grins. "I'm gonna win soon!"

"This isn't a competition," Steve reminds him with a tilt of his head. Eddie scrunches his nose at him.

"Maybe to you. I'm trying to beat Robin. She has too many stars."

Oops. Maybe Steve has been favorizing her more than he thought.

"Does Robin even know about it?" he asks with a small smile. 

"Of course!" Eddie huffs, following Steve as he checks the windows and files away the attendance list. "She says it's because you like her more."

Steve looks Eddie in the eye.

"You know that's not true, I like all of you the same." He needs to have a talk with her about stirring Eddie up.

"Yeah, but you live with Robin!" the boy points out. 

"Well, yeah, but—"

"But she said I can marry you if I win!"

"She said that?" Steve blinks at him, aghast. The talk with Robin will be a long one. 

"She said I need the best friend's blessing," Eddie recalls. "And then I'll be your wife and you'll like me more!" he explains his logic.

Steve can't help his amused smile. 

"Not my husband?" 

Eddie's cheeks turn slightly pink. 

"No."

"No? Why not?" 

"Because!" Eddie stomps his foot and turns around, on his way to the waiting area. 

"Because what?" Steve calls after him, barely containing his laughter. He quickly gathers his things to follow him out.

"Because!!!" he repeats, slamming the door behind him. Steve chuckles to himself. There's a pleasant flutter in his stomach, the already familiar need to protect. With a hint of very unprofessional possessiveness. 

When he enters the waiting room, he can see Eddie struggling to lace his shoes. 

"Need help with that?"

"No!" Eddie answers, still grumpy. 

"Alright." Steve shrugs, nonplussed. "Want your adult juice?"

He's silent for a moment, before muttering a quiet, "Yes, please."

"And there I thought you completely forgot the magic words existed," Steve teases, turning to fix them both coffee. As the express comes to life, he leans on the counter to observe the man. He's stubbornly trying to lace his shoes while sitting, which isn't the best or most comfortable angle. But as he's not asking for help, Steve won't offer it again, no matter how much his fingers itch. 

Only Robin knows how much he wants to lace Eddie's shoes for him, wrap him in a jacket, and send him to work with a kiss to his temple. How much he wants to buy him toys and prepare snacks for when he's too busy to remember about eating.

When he was starting up the daycare, he hoped it would satiate this need most of his dates didn't understand. And it did, to some extent. Until Eddie signed up. 

His friend, Chrissy, dragged him here, all sharp edges and scoffs that tried and failed to hide his shyness and embarrassment. But once he opened up, it was hard to pull him out of it. Both the playroom and the headspace. 

"You have a tattoo project to finish," Chrissy would remind him five minutes after official closing time, already in the waiting room, since adult topics weren't allowed in the playroom. 

"Bleh, adult stuff," Eddie would stick a tongue at her, already brown from his coffee. (Which they would soon start calling adult juice to make it sound more appealing and magical—a potion turning Eddie back into a grown-up.)

The first time Eddie ran up to him in his mismatched socks and a huge grin, showing off the lopsided braids in his hair, telling him, "Look! I'm an elf!" Steve felt all the professional distance leave his body with a piercing shot through his heart.

"You sure do," he choked out. "Let's see if I have a bow and arrow somewhere."

The excited squeal Eddie let out made a shadow of embarrassment pass through him, but Steve quickly squashed it with a warm smile. With a mental note to order a green cape for a proper elven immersion, he realized he's in trouble.

It's been a few months now that Eddie's been coming to the day care, and a month of Steve giving in to his weakness, walking him home until their paths split. He tells himself it's because he's making sure he's coming off little space safely, that it's his responsibility—aftercare, in a way. But he knows Eddie is an adult, at the end of the day, and has Chrissy to take care of him at home. His "help" might be counterproductive, actually, making him feel like he's still in the daycare when Steve's with him. 

But he's held his hand on the crosswalk only twice, so.

Eventually, Eddie gets his laces sorted, even if the knots are a little lopsided. Steve puts lids on their travel mugs and hands Eddie his coffee. 

"Ready?"

"Mhm. Thanks, Da—" His eyes widen at almost slipping up for the second time that day. "Uh, Steve. Sorry. Thank you, Steve," he mumbles, taking a sip of the hot drink. 

Steve loves and hates when he does that. He's been called a dad by the attendees before, which always left him yearning to have someone of his own to call him that. But it seems like Eddie's been slipping up more often as the time passes. It's feeding the possessive beast in his chest.

"Don't worry about it." Steve waves his hand, knowing he'll do all the worrying needed. "I've heard it's normal to want to marry your—"

"No!"

"—parental figure," Steve finishes with a grin.

"No. No, no, no. La la la la la la la." Eddie presses one hand to his ear, since the other is occupied with the coffee mug. "I'm leaving!"

"I thought you didn't want to?" Steve points out, grabbing his things to follow. 

"I changed my mind!"

Eddie waits for him to lock the door anyway, sipping on his coffee and not looking at him. 

"Feeling bigger?" Steve asks him when the key is safely in his pocket and he's ready to go. 

"A bit," Eddie nods. 

"Great! So, any new projects you're working on?"

One of the outcomes of their walks together is learning about adult Eddie—his part time job at a tattoo studio and his passion for music. At first he had the tiniest hope that finding out he's more than a kid he could care for, would tune his feelings down, but no. He finds himself intrigued by adult Eddie as well, could see them becoming friends, and every day, the offer to hang out one-on-one, either with his big or little version, itches at the tip of his tongue. 

He's worried one day it will spill out and the reality will have nothing on the fantasy he's built up in his mind.

Just some lonely man and his crows

I just recently found out that Jon actually has two crows named "Craw" and "Nightmare" (Kudos to Mistress of Fear for the info!), so as the Crow and Raven lover that I am, I had to sketch Jonathan and his birbs.

I did try to use the cell shading, which I have improved, but certainly it shows it is still out of my comfort zone hahaha.

I did base of his design of some of the comic looks and Maxwell as I kinda did shoot myself in the foot by not drawing my version of Jonathan first, but oh well XD. Likewise, I did want to keep him Ginger as outside The Dark Knight (aka my intro to Jonathan) is the iconic Batman the Animated series. I prefer his S2 design, but i enjoyed his episodes but I wished he was on more.

I did originally thought about drawing him in a funny incorrect quote I found, but it might go into another day, although I finally got the idea for Jonathan x my OC (Elizabeth) drawing too. I can't 100% guarantee I'll get this done as I am a very busy buzz person (who does get hit with depresso mood swings, but I'll do my best)

jon sims headcanons +appearance timeline!

SPOILERS FOR ALL SEASONS OF TMA after the cut‼️

to start here is the timeline image (if you’ve seen it before no you haven’t)

now for the meat n potatoes!

(1-3 are all hair-timeline related)

1. i headcanon jon as having decently short hair at first just to be professional or whatever even though he prefers it longer (alternative mf), then season two hits and he just kinda forgets about it cause he’s too busy being paranoid and stalking his coworkers. he remembers again after the [brutal pipe murder], but just kinda decides short hair is not worth the upkeep and buys a pack of hair ties that he then keeps on his person throughout the rest of the show, and ends up with this beautiful mess that floats when he uses his powers. maybe he has martin help him with it in various ways just to have an excuse for a domestic moment during the eyepocalypse, who knows (i do because i say so and i like drawing men with long hair)

2. he has an almost-curly wave pattern that tends to frizz easily but is not that hard to handle when he actually takes care of it. totally not projecting definitely not why would i do that? georgie was the one to show him the magic of curl products and from then on you could never catch him without at least four different ones in his bathroom, even after he cuts his hair for work. he wishes he liked masculine woodsy type scents for his hair products, but he does not. he prefers the fruity bath and body works type stuff. at first he never lets people get close enough to him to learn this, and even if he did start warming up to people enough to let them get close, they wouldn’t have anyway in s2 because he’s a paranoid lil bitch boy. martin begins to associate those scents with jon later on but doesn’t realize why until they get to the safehouse and he sees all of jon’s hair products and immediately understands.

3. jon greys a lot over the course of the series. he goes through a lot of stress so obviously this would make sense, but since he was marked by the web so early on i think that would have happened whether or not he’d been chosen as the archivist (yknow cause white hairs are kinda similar to webs? idk it makes sense to my brain parasites). also it makes him look older than he is, which he appreciates at first because it helps with his stuffy academic persona

4. he has kinda the same feeling about shaving throughout the show as he does with haircuts, as in at first he tries to stay clean-shaven for professionalism, but eventually he gets to a point where he only shaves when his facial hair starts being inconvenient and/or bothering him sensory-wise because he’s autistic (we’ll get to that later)

5. as soon as he learns that his job entails monster encounters and almost dying regularly, he basically says fuck you to the dress code and starts wearing skirts and jewelry and all that fun stuff because he likes it, and if he gets fired then it might be worth it to get out of there. he’s wearing a skirt in the s2 image because i say so. sweater vest + long pleated skirt combo jon yes please (i will be drawing this soon, trust)

6. as alternative as he is, he never got any more piercings than the four on his lobes because at the end of the day he was still an academic and wanted to pursue research, and knew that that kind of thing pushed the boundaries of that image a little too far. he regrets this later but doesn’t think too much of it since his priorities are placed… elsewhere

7. at some point during s2, elias/jonah notices his lack of care about the dress code and decides to gift him the eye earrings that i gave him in that image. obviously he has ulterior motives but jon doesn’t know that and thinks they’re cool so he wears them regularly. he’s also given a glasses chain with eye charms on it, but he forgets to wear it most of the time since he can barely see without his glasses anyways so he has no need for it

8. obviously he can’t go back to his house in s3, so he has to borrow a lot of what the ghost? merch from georgie. he is still a skeptic about the ghost hunting genre despite everything he knows now, but he still wears it because he doesn’t have any other option and wants to support his friend. he’s a very sweet guy at heart but just doesn’t want to admit it most of the time because it’d conflict with his stuffy academic image

9. it’s fairly common to see people draw him as not needing his glasses anymore after his avatar transformation, as well as his eye color changing, and i fuckin love it gimme more of that please. i also saw someone say that all the eyes are green because jonah has green eyes but after jon becomes the pupil all the eyes turn brown, but idk how to feel about that one since the whole show is just green atp and it would be weird to change that

10. in s5, he has eyes all over his body and they usually don’t close unless they’re about to get poked or touched. when he uses his power, the sclera turn black and the irises glow. he also has the funny glowing eye halo but it’s not tangible so it’s not too big of a deal for him. also, fun fact: i never draw eyes with pupils. it’s just not a part of my style. i only threw them in here because he can literally see everything, especially in his glitched-out finale form. it’s meant to seem like he’s looking at you because he is. the archive can s̠҉͍͊ͅẹ̿͋̒̕ẹ̿͋̒̕ y҉̃̀̋̑o̯̱̊͊͢ư̡͕̭̇ he is w̦̺̐̐͟ā̤̓̍͘t̲̂̓ͩ̑c͕͗ͤ̕̕ḣ̖̻͛̓ỉ͔͖̜͌ṇ̤͛̒̍ĝ̽̓̀͑

11. literally everyone thinks this man is beautiful. he is so pretty and even people who aren’t attracted to men can see that. however, most are dissuaded by the stuffy academic persona at first and the “you look like hell” vibes later, as well as his generally standoffish personality. this does not apply to martin, who sees all of those traits as 100% his type, or elias/jonah, who has a religious sort of reverence toward jon as his perfect archivist (this was touched upon by alex during the magnus fanfic-reading video and i’ve loved the idea ever since). jon does not like this but he’s also unaware of it for most of the show so it’s not too big a deal for him

12. i only just learned who dev patel is from people fancasting him as jon, but i looked him up and yes i approve of the fancast. i also drew these before i looked him up so i think i accidentally drew dev patel a few times (also as a white person i can’t say much about his race and how it would play into his character but whenever i see art of him that doesn’t portray him as a poc i just go “why is he white” so i’m just gonna go along with the majority of the fandom’s interpretation of him being south asian)

13. he is very small. not too short, per se, but small, like a tall skinny person was scaled down in photoshop. he’s about 5’7, and at first he wears shoe lifts to hide this, but eventually just decides to wear platforms and heels like he did in college, and sometimes just forgoes them entirely because he’s stopped caring. martin likes to pick him up and carry him around the safehouse (and in places where he’s cut off from the eye) and he enjoys it.

now for some non-appearance related ones that have been chewing on my brain along with the parasites

14. WE’RE FINALLY GETTING TO IT‼️ he’s 100% autistic (i’m autistic and i hit him with the tism ray). him responding to “have you seen a dog?” with “in general, or…?” is so autism-coded it’s not even funny. he doesn’t have too many sensory issues but he hates tight pants and ties and things like that. he also hates the feeling of air on his skin most of the time so he always wears long sleeves if he can help it. for the first few days after he realizes he doesn’t need his glasses, he keeps wearing them anyway because he’s so used to them. he doesn’t melt down but he does shut down sometimes, though he does lose the ability to go nonverbal after his transformation and that fucks with him a lot. martin is a big help with this in s5 because he’ll just be quiet, not provoking the eye to give or collect information at all.

15. he was definitely in the mechanisms in college. i don’t know too much about their lore yet since i’ve only listened to the first two albums (ulysses dies at dawn is a fucking masterpiece), but picturing a young version of this jon as jonny d’ville is absolutely wonderful

16. he definitely liked martin in the early seasons but he didn’t fully realize it until later. i think his bullying was a result of him having the feelings and not quite knowing what those feelings were because he’s autistic. my biggest point of evidence for jon not truly disliking martin is that when they were trapped while hiding from jane prentiss, jon straight up thinks that he’s hallucinating martin being there because his presence is comforting.

17. he is CANONICALLY ASEXUAL AND FUCKING PROUD. him being ace makes me so happy as an ace person myself, especially since he’s in an mlm relationship with someone who’s (assumedly) not ace but is not expecting anything out of him, just like myself. i feel incredibly seen by the whole magnus team just for that but this is a headcanon post so i won’t get into all that. he is very much a romantic and was incredibly touch-starved post-georgie and pre-martin, so he’s happy to be physically close and intimate as long as it doesn’t go any further than that. he loves big hugs and kisses and cuddles from his boyfriend and that’s fucking wonderful!! okay moving on from the projection

18. for his whole life, his favorite color was blue, specifically that of the sky or similar lighter shades like periwinkle and cyan and those such as. they’re peaceful, and he looks good wearing them. but after his coma, he realizes just how much he likes green, and starts wearing it a lot more… he doesn’t realize that it’s not his own brain producing that thought.

19. he does not look like the type to like rock and metal, but he does. he loves how complicated in structure metal can be, especially when it utilizes more melodic aspects as well. if he could have heard take me back to eden by sleep token (well, most of it—there are some flops on there), he would have loved it. he also loves classical pieces for that same reason, but the heavy stuff is super appealing to him on its own. he sometimes listens to prog and math rock as well, just to follow along with the time signatures and long runtimes projecting again maybe but it kinda makes sense so i’m putting it out there

20. he was never as much of a media nerd as he was an academics nerd, but he loves long speculative book series like a song of ice and fire, red rising, and the stormlight archive. intricate worldbuilding gets him every time, and he’ll throw himself into it completely, as is canon. he tried playing dungeons and dragons once, but the amount of pre-existing rules bothered him since he couldn’t do everything he wanted to with his character. star wars also bothers him because there’s so many inconsistencies in the lore. but, it did inspire him to write his own space opera lore for his band.

anyways that’s all i’ve got for now, i hope to incorporate this stuff into my art from here on out but hey maybe i’ll hyperfixate on something else soon and never draw mr. jarchivist again! has happened before could happen again folks

I love Shifted Gaze Jonathan so much. I feel so bad for what I do to him in this au lol.

He has the grey streaks in his hair still, but they are in the pattern of a spiders web, which gets more intricate the less human he becomes. He also has the lighter, which is still a thing in this au.

Jon is really nowhere near as much of an asshole as he is in s1 in canon. He does have a sarcastic side, but he largely keeps that to himself. He’s very quiet, rarely talking unless he absolutely has to. He originally works in research, specialising in Leitner’s library and the books that had been contained within, and because of this he actually did spend a good amount of time in the Archives, and Gertrude hated him, recognising him as a Web avatar. Frankly Jon was actually pretty afraid of Gertrude, and this is part of the reason Jon befriends Martin (basically at first he is kinda just using him to deal with people that Jon doesn’t want to but actually does grow to like him) because Martin was more than willing to go down to the Archives to get any statements Jon needed.

Anyway, Jon isn’t a full Web avatar yet, and he is afraid of what he’s becoming. He began his research into Jurgen Leitner and the fears when he was young, not long after the Mr Spider incident as while he was terrified, he felt like he had to know, he had to learn the truth of it all. Fear fascinated him, as did the spiders, who he always found anywhere he went, watching him. The more he discovered, the more the Web called to him.

He was at University when he chose the Web. It was not necessarily intentional, but he sealed his fate, and as Georgie broke up with him, he was left truly alone, drawing him closer to the Mother of Puppets. Then Elias Bouchard contacted him, offering him a job as a researcher at the Magnus Institute, promising him resources in researching the fears and Leitner. Jon can feel that Elias is planning something, but Jon doesn’t know what it is, but he knows he should be cautious. He knows Elias knows about his alignment to the Web, and that also concerns him. Jon regrets everything that has brought him closer to the Web, but he keeps getting drawn closer to it, with his last true connection to humanity being Martin, and he is terrified about what will happen if that connection is destroyed.

I apologise in advance for what I do to Jon and Martin in this. They do not have a good time.

Hi, this is the same anon who asked about my controversial asoiaf takes. I don't have a lot of unpopular takes, but one I do have is I am a firm believer in Jon having a pre-canon crush on Sansa. Because not only does it make sense (i.e Jon liking Ygritte's traits that she happens to share with Sansa, Jon being entranced by Val when she has Sansa's colouring for a second) but I love it how this, if it's true, effectively destroys the dumb arguments that Jon was bullied by Sansa and he dislikes her. I am kinda petty lol

Sansa bullied everyone, it seems. She bullied Randyll Tarly when he was a wee little lad, and that's what taught him how to bully Sam, too.

I actually agree that a pre-canon fascination is very well within the realm of possibility. @undercovercaptain has a very comprehensive meta series drawing on parallels to incest as a theme in Byronic literature, or in Byronic heroes, specifically also as a hidden secret.

I think it's both plausible and not at all improbable that GRRM will transfer part of the shame and agony and "torment" of their feelings into revalations of the past, as a more innocent but no less significant aspect of what shaped their choices and behaviors during canon events.

MAG 72: Takeaway

Another meat thing oh god. Like I physically grimaced when Goodall had his Achilles heel cut like genuinely that’s one of my fears. Also another direct connection to like Christianity and meat. Or like kinda because in Rations I think, that guy made a prayer that was originally a Christian prayer I believe but altered it to put meat in. ALSO, Haan killed his wife but apparently she had self-inflicted wounds as well. I’m thinking this is maybe cult or some kind of like sacrificial thing going on. Maybe the wife wanted to die.

We also have Haans nephew who appeared in “Killing Floor”. He had his own meat sort of story. Guess it runs in the family 💀

MAG 73: Police Lights

I feel like Maxwell Rayner is not dead simply because it’s not the most implausible thing considering Michael Crew pops up in a couple episodes after jumping out a window. But who knows maybe Rayner is truly gone (I am betting not) also Natalie was there which definitely made me feel a little sad. I always feel a lot in terms of cults. I’m trying to figure out what Rayner and like the cult was planning on doing to the kid. Maybe kill him? But I feel like that’s too basic, they were probably doing something else. The fog seemed to hurt when it hit that one police guy like it burned him. Came out of that dusty old man’s mouth after all.

Also Basira quitting? Queen shit. I cannot blame her.

MAG 74: Fatigue

Oh yeah this is good. Something about the disjointed events really adds to the sleep deprived perspective I love it. Also MICHAEL. What is Michael I swear to god. Every appearance of this weirdo makes me more and more confused. What does he get out of this? Is it just for fun? He didn’t seem to benefit at all, like he even told Lydia she looked terrible 💀

It was said he was making spirals out of grass blades. What is with this creature and spirals, like that corridor was trippy too. I’m wondering if spirals are fractals. Lydia was drawing them for some reason. Similar to Evo’s dad in Burned Out.

And I KNEW Sasha was going through the tunnels. Like duh. I think she was the one who screwed up the quality because multiple times have electronics have been screwed around like tape recorder and the computer. I have no idea who that man is though.

MAG 75: A Long Way Down

This statement takes place after Michael jumps out the window. I guess he changed a lot. And he got some drip because why is he wearing a full suit?? I can’t tell if he actually contributed to Grants disappearance because maybe he was doing something else y’all 😭 (I’m in denial.) I am wondering what his little spell did back in Literary Heights. Did he like- bind himself with the lightning thing? I don’t know how that would work. He did say “I am yours” so did he like..sell his soul. That’s what I’m thinking.

Feeling really bad for grant. I don’t have a major fear of heights but the way the situation is described, I’d develop one.

MAG 76: The Smell of Blood

Wooo Melanie King! First time a character gave two statements which is cool. I’m wondering what kind of meme she ended up. Someone draw that.

Not much to say about this episode but oh my god I’m so happy someone noticed Sasha. I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long. I miss Sasha dude 😭

One thing I’m curious about is like…what is going to be the ending. Because right now, the institute, or technically Jon, has so many probable enemies right now. Like you got the Church of yada yada, the circus, Fake Sasha, all those diseased people, Michael, the Lukas family, etc. Who is going to drop the other shoe? Because right now, they all have the other shoe istg.

Tbh I think Ed clocked him before Jon would have even figured anything out, he just chose not to bring it up because he knew it was probably sensitive and not something he's trying to figure out immediately. He's at least aware he can be kinda unhelpful (and extremely annoying) when he tries picking people apart so he does it at a distance with people he cares about. Most of the time.

If he ever gets bored with Jon's unwillingness to confront that part of himself he'll pick at it just a touch. Use some more feminine language on him, watch how he squirms then forgets about it. He wants soooo badly to grab him and shake him until it clicks but buhhh he has to be gentle about it or whatever.

Ed doesn't fully understand Jon's adversion to the topic because he figured it out pretty early with little to no internal friction. Obviously considering they're together it's not as if he has any animosity towards transness so he has just the inkling that it has something to do with his own self worth. Until that changes he's just gonna be in chronic egg mode. Boo
