I think I already answered a similar question, but I'm actually bad at describing people anyway... In reference to your example though, Kyo is definitely the angriest; everyone in the band is backing him up, but there's some raw anger in his performance and art for sure that I don't think any of them singlehandedly harbours. He's not afraid to show his mood and, in that sense, his mood can change on a dime a lot faster than any of the other members. But he's also funny and very considerate. He feels like he needs to do as much as he can with all the time at his disposal, which is why he started three bands, and he's typically never late to anything. He does what he wants and rarely even does reluctantly what he doesn't want to do, if he can avoid it altogether.

Shinya would without a doubt be the kindest. He doesn't mock anyone and he always speaks in the more formal version of Japanese (verbs ending with -masu for example). I personally love his sense of humor, which consists of giving the dumbest statements and replying: "Huh?!" when called out on them. He is quite smart beneath it all, as he's completed tons of quizzes, challenge games and even some kanji test for how many he's memorized. I'd be remiss not to mention that he is the quietest member as well, and he is the most stoic drummer even though he bangs like a beast on his drums.

Kaoru is the ever collected one. It seems so rare for him to act 'crazy' or excitedly. It's like he's always surveying the situation and maintaining control. But he's not controlling as an individual or leader, maybe just a perfectionist and, from what I grasped, an artist who works at his own pace hah.

Die gives me the sense of "aloof" and "mystical" on stage, and I feel like I'd know him more if I had subscribed to Die-mobile all those years ago. He seems calm as well, and since working on his physique in the last couple of years, he certainly has discipline. Out of the five of them, he is definitely the one who enjoys touring outside of Japan the most, probably because he speaks a little bit of English. He's very warm, at least to fans, from what I've seen.

Toshiya is also immensely warm and kind, but he does burst out in acts of, like, rebellion and intensity unexpectedly sometimes. I still remember him either doing a back or front flip out of nowhere at a show that happened on his birthday; unnecessary and coming out of nowhere hah. He's very devoted and between him and Die, I think he is the one who smiles the most. Toshiya is a close second behind Kyo for most theatrical as well.

Yeah, that sucked, but hopefully it's a satisfying response for you, at least!

Hi, Lost, you are my favorite Eruri account and the one I trust the most when it comes to characterization and that's exactly what I want to ask for a possible, I don't know, fic or art or something like that? I read a lot of post ACWNR fics that took place right after ACWNR. And Erwin's character usually goes 2 ways: he's either really kind and nice to Levi or he is just cold in a way that he tries to discipline him? How do you see Erwin's character post ACWNR? The whole point of ACWNR feels like Erwin, just like Lobov himself, played chess with the lives of forgotten and poor people of the Underground who were always treated like second class citizens. And I think a lot of people are afraid to explore this but that's the beauty of Erwin's character, because later in RTS arc we see Levi's face when he thinks about how he tricked his comrades. I always believed that Erwin didn't see Levi as a "person", someone with his own life and feelings I mean, and he mostly focused on his skills until they became close. And I think when he started to care about Levi he felt the same guilt again. He didn't regret what he did because humanity needs Levi's skills but he still felt really bad for Levi. I feel the same way about post ACWNR Levi, I think Levi saw Erwin as this fancy squad leader from Above who didn't care about the people living underground and he was just another asshole like Lobov and everyone else until he got to know Erwin and realized that he's actually a really depressed and burdened man who dedicated himself to larger goals. Sorry to bother you but can you at least give me some tips about post ACWNR Eruri?

Hi Anon, sorry it's taken me so long to answer your thoughtful ask. My inbox is a bit out of hand at the moment!

I think this is a pretty good analysis of how Erwin and Levi regard each other when they first meet during ACWNR. There's no denying that it's Levi's strength and skill that initially captivate Erwin and that he wants Levi to join the Survey Corps to further his goal of saving humanity / uncovering the truth of the world / proving his father's theories are true (delete as appropriate). And it's also true that Erwin feels enormous guilt for "tricking" Levi into joining the Survey Corps. However, it's important to remember that Erwin is an extremely unreliable narrator, especially in the run up to the return to Shiganshina. At that point in the story he is crippled by guilt and despair and he sees his own actions in the bleakest light. Erwin believes that he tricked Levi into following him, but that isn't necessarily true. For a start this negates Levi's free will, and if you read the visual novel or the manga, it also doesn't entirely tally with Levi's experience of events. It's interesting that you said that Erwin played chess with the lives of poor, marginalized people from the Underground as in the same way that Lobov did, and again there is a grain of truth in that. However Erwin didn't pick on Levi and his friends because they were poor, second class citizens, he pursued Levi because of his incredible skill. At the same time , you could also argue that Erwin played chess with everyone's lives, his own first and foremost.

In Levi's case it's true that he initially viewed Erwin as arrogant and disdainful, but he quickly changed his tune, when he realised Erwin was above such pettiness. This is the famous "What a man" monologue from the ACWNR visual novel.

"What a man"—Levi thought to himself.  When he'd gotten caught in the underground, he'd felt humiliated. He had thought that Erwin was brimming with an air of superiority as he looked down at his catch—but now, Levi knew that he'd been mistaken. That kind of quarrel about superiority or inferiority had never concerned Erwin even in the slightest.

Regardless of Erwin's original motivation for recruiting Levi into the Survey Corps and the initial power imbalance that existed between them, and despite Erwin's darkest misgivings, Isayama has been at pains to reiterate that their's was a mutual and equal relationship founded on a deep bond of mutual trust (TM). Unless we get a new series to fill in the period between ACWNR and SnK, how Erwin and Levi's relationship evolved will remain speculative. Thankfully we have many talented writers in the Eruri fandom to fill in the gaps in canon 😏

"what?" roxas asks.

"they're muppets. the ones in this car." audrey steps out onto the stage in a costume dress that's still clearly half-fitted - al can see pins in the hem and sleeves - and crosses her arms over her chest, surveying the faces around her for any sign of recognition. "come on, you guys don't know the muppets? i mean, i knew al wouldn't, but -"

"oh, is that like the 'cookie monster'?" trish asks from the pit.

audrey pinches the bridge of her nose. "guys. seriously? you don't know kermit the frog?"

"i think i've seen him on a bag of chips," shigeo muses.

al turns to audrey, scenery painting all but forgotten. "is shadow a muppet?"

"no, he's a hedgehog," she says immediately, then pauses. "well. maybe he would be if he was here, actually. i don't know how this car works."

there's a long silence. it's hard to tell how many of them are imagining shadow as a foul-tempered puppet flopping around the stage, and how many of them are just wishing shadow was here with them.

"who do you think controls them?" shigeo asks, eventually. "is it like a psychic energy thing, or...?"

"it could be a singular person," trish agrees. "some kind of -"

"- 'master of puppets'," audrey finishes for her, entirely deadpan. "yeah. okay. wakka fucking wakka."

"ONE HOUR TO SHOWTIME," a voice hollers from backstage. the teens all jump to attention and scramble back to their jobs, or at least to trying to look busy. there's no telling what the penalty will be if they don't get this right; even if it's just spending the night in the theater and trying again tomorrow, that's still a waste of time.

"the little blue one said he's getting shot out of a cannon," al says quietly, to no one in particular. "do you think they feel pain?"

Do you ever get super bad buzzing in your ears? It's more like a super high-pitched frequency. It only lasts for a few seconds and then it disappears. (Also, I started this survey a couple of days ago, so if there's any continuity confusion, that would be why.)

Do you know anyone who has actually been in an alcohol or drug related crash? I might, but I don't know all the details and I don't know her well enough to ask. There may have been drugs/alcohol involved, but from what I can gather, the main motivator was suicidal tendencies.

What is so wrong with cigarettes? Are you fucking serious? <- For real. I might be a smoker, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend it's a harmless habit.

Did you celebrate Fathers Day? No. I love my dad, but we didn't do anything special.

Do you actually think you’re funny? I have my moments.

Have you ever had a deep conversation with someone who was high on anything? Yeah.

Do you ever wonder if there really is someone who can complement your personality well enough to stay together for the rest of your life? Lol, I was just talking about this the other day. What was the last worst feeling you felt? A sense of falling into a terrible abyss. I was so worried I wasn't going to be able to volunteer at the shelter anymore because of the whole Alex situation/fallout, but I spent all that time worrying for nothing. It wasn't even close to that serious. There was no mention or even a suggestion that they were going to "fire" me. I was in hell for the few days leading up to that meeting, though. :')

Do you ever tend to over-analyse? Yeah. My previous answer is a good example, but it's typically much smaller stuff. I'll overthink someone's tone of voice, a joke they told, why they said a certain thing, etc. I've gotten into the habit of reminding myself that it's just "mental illness shit." I can try to figure out why I feel that way later on, but in the moment, I have to let it go.

Do you know anyone that like, no matter WHAT, they’re always pissed off? Diane is often grumpy, but I'm at least somewhat sympathetic about it. She's older, she just wants to be able to retire, and she has to deal with the public all day (and in a setting such as the animal shelter, that can be especially emotionally taxing).

How do you react when you’re pissed off? One example would be how I reacted to some of Diane's comments back in September. I try to avoid impulsively expressing the full extent of my emotions, though, because one - it's often futile, and two - it just makes things worse than they already are.

What celebrity did your most current ex resemble? I don't know.

What is something creepy that has happened to you (or someone you know) recently? Nothing creepy has happened to me, but there was a recent Walmart lockdown incident in the city in which Paris lives, and she happened to be there at the time.

If you named your car or family car, what would you call it? My dad and I call his car the spaceship. I don't have any creative ideas for mine, though.

What would you do if you were faced with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy (at your current age)? I'm not sure what I would do.

sorry if this is too personal, but what are some things (both material and not) that you find essential to your overall sense of peace or happiness?

what things do you think are good to help people be happy (both material and not) I know every human is different, but we are also alike in our fundamental needs, so what do you think would help most of us be happier?

Ooh! This is a really good question, and it actually has an evidence-based answer. The things that make people happier are:

Taking good care of your body. I know this one sucks, but it makes a huge difference. If you're not eating well, sleeping well, and moving, it has a huge impact on mood. In some studies, depressed participants who exercised three times a week for 30 minutes each actually had a higher remission rate than participants taking Zoloft. So do your best to eat a nutritionally balanced diet, sleep 7-9 hours a night, and exercise for at least 90 minutes a week.

Savoring. This is about being fully present in a moment and appreciating an experience as you're having it. You can savor something by sharing the experience with another person, thinking about how lucky you are to enjoy such an amazing moment, or keeping a souvenir or photo of that activity. Make sure you stay in the present moment the entire time - try not to multitask or worry about what you have to do next. You can also try reliving happy experiences in your mind for around 10 minutes, 3 times a week.

Gratitude: This goes along with savoring, but training yourself to approach the world from a place of gratitude makes a huge difference in happiness. So try to take 5-10 minutes each night to write down five things for which you are grateful. They can be big or little, but try to get into detail about why you're grateful for them, and imagine those things in your mind as you're doing it.

Meditation: Meditation is another tried-and-true way to boost your happiness. The skills that are required for meditation also make it easier to be present in the moment, which in turn makes it easier to not be anxious about the future or to ruminate on the past. Meditating just 5 minutes a day can make a big difference.

Social Connection: Inevitably somebody is going to get mad at me for saying this someone always does when I bring this up, but humans wired to be social creatures. When we're isolated for too long, it really impacts our mental health. So socializing with lots of different types of people (family members, coworkers/fellow students, friends, strangers) on a regular basis, going to a social event at least once a month, and making an effort to prioritize quality social interactions (like spending an afternoon with your best friend) can really help to satisfy that need for connection.

Acts of Kindness: People are actually happier when they're doing things for other people than they are when they're doing things for themselves. Studies have shown that people who do five random acts of kindness in one day are happier than those who don't (and also those who do one act of kindness every day for a week). Volunteering is the easiest way to do this one, but helping out your friends, family, or strangers also counts.

Using Strengths: People like feeling like they're good at things and that their talents matter. If you're regularly using four of your top strengths, you're more likely to feel fulfilled and to be happier overall. The Strengths Survey I like is from the VIA Character Institute

Setting and Achieving Goals: This kind of goes along with using your strengths, but people like to feel like they're growing and making progress. Having a goal that you're working toward, even if it's something small, can give you a sense of momentum and purpose in your day to day life.

Cognitive Reframing: As humans, our brains are wired to keep us alive. This means that our brains are constantly looking out for danger. But now, in our day to day lives, there's not really much actual danger for our brains to focus on, and so our brains use that same impulse to focus on the negatives of a given situation. By learning techniques to challenge our negative thoughts, we can train our brains to focus on the positives of a situation instead, making us happier overall.

Spending Time In Nature: Finally, spending time in nature has a sizable benefit for our mental health. I think part of this is because a lot of people are Vitamin D deficient, and that can lead to low mood in itself, but also because spending time in nature gets us away from all of the things we're worried about and gives us some perspective.

So, okay, all that said, what does that look like for me? I have a pretty steady sleep schedule from 12-8:30, and I've put a lot of effort into making sure that my bedroom is conducive for good sleep. I'm not the best at eating, but I do follow a mostly vegetarian Mediterranean diet, and I take supplements to make sure all my nutritional needs are being met. I'm also not the best at exercising because chronic illness, but I do have a 5 minute physical therapy routine that I do every morning, and I walk most places I go. I'm hoping that once my joints get a little stronger, I'll be able to start doing Pilates classes a couple times a week.

I try to practice savoring and gratitude throughout my day, and I have an app on my phone that gives me a daily gratitude prompt. I meditate for 10 minutes most days, although sometimes I end up not having time. I try to walk to a coffee shop every morning so that I can stretch my legs, chat with some strangers, and get outside a bit. I also make a point of seeing my best friend at least twice a month, I see my partner most days, and I've started subscribing to a service where every Wednesday night, I get matched with five random people and we have dinner together. I'm a fairly extroverted person, so I probably need a little more social interaction than what I'm doing right now, but even just adding in those dinners once a week has made a huge difference for my happiness, especially since I work from home. As far as acts of kindness go, I've been on the hunt to find a volunteer organization I really care about. But I also feel like what I do on this blog satisfies my need to be helpful most days.

When it comes to strengths, mine are: love of learning, fairness, judgement, creativity, and curiosity. This blog actually serves a lot of my needs when it comes to using my strengths, since I'm always researching something new and pursuing my curiosities, I get to engage with new perspectives and ideas, and I get to help people. I also read a lot, listen to podcasts, watch video essays and documentaries, and take classes to use my love of learning, and I try to always have some type of creative project going, although I struggle to maintain that sometimes because starting a new project is always kind of daunting. I'd like to take an in-person art class to satisfy my need to be creative and to get some more social interaction, but I haven't found one I'm really excited about taking yet. I'm also always working on a bunch of different projects, classes, and certifications, which helps me feel like I'm making progress and achieving the goals I set for myself.

I don't know if these examples are super enlightening or if I've just kind of been yapping about myself for the last three paragraphs, but those are some of the ways I've been trying to take a more thoughtful approach to my happiness and well-being.

It's where I learned most of this information, and it's made a huge difference in my life.

Joining the Survey Corps is like digging your grave, yet many tried to achieve glory. Losing a limb in the name of humanity is honorable; to die is a legacy. No one is safe; no one can control who lives, who dies, and who will tell their stories. 

Admit it or not, Eren temporarily stops the impending war between Marley and Paradis, but that doesn't mean that his actions are justifiable. Genocide is wrong; civilians and children are mostly the victims, barely the rich and the powerful. Commander Erwin Smith's story is a myth covered in gold, and Floch's legacy as a mighty hero echoes throughout the island despite being the coward he is. The remaining soldiers get to live a long life; it is a blessing to see another day, but not when grieving, not when the beloved dear bid their goodbye for the last time.

Mikasa lived another 50 years, married Jean, had a family with him, and was contented with the love she was giving and receiving. Mikasa loved Jean for who he was, yet at the same time, she is a hypocrite if she says that she never saw Eren in Jean at least once and never wished to have a family and grow old with Eren instead. 

Levi, on the other hand, lived with Onyankopon and was visited by his comrades, who were once teenagers that he looked after. 

Other than blood and surname, Levi and Mikasa have another in common, and that is losing the person they love the most on the same day for the exact cause that is hated, depending on which perspective. Hange and Eren both sacrificed their lives to save people. The people of Paradis hate Hange because they lead the Alliance, aiming to stop the rumbling; meanwhile, Eren is hated by those who survived. 

Mikasa visits Levi alone when she has time; she knows the only person who can understand her is him, who is also in the same situation. The older Ackerman was on the vast garden porch, calmly sitting in his wheelchair. "Someone fucked with Jaeger's grave again?" Levi asked concernedly, yet his voice remained monotonous, as usual. He saw burns in her fingers, most likely from the bleach she used to clean the vandals in Eren's grave. "How many times do I have to tell you to use gloves?" without another spoken word, Mikasa knelt and cried on his knees like a child. "Hange remains to live up to her dirty reputation even after death." it somehow made her chuckle, "How can you forgive those who did it?" she asked while sobbing, "I never, I cursed 50 generations of their descendants to suffer." Levi seriously answered. It took years before Mikasa understood Levi's humor; it is dry and unhinged. "I am trying a new product that can remove inks and paint easily. I'll give you a bottle later." cleaning is his love language, one of the ways to let someone know they care, "Jaegerist cult trashed Hange's grave for the third time this month." he continued, At first, Levi thought that twice a month was enough to visit Hange's empty grave, not until he saw how people tried to erase their existence by destroying their remaining physical memory after the incident it became a routine for him to visit every week. "I am actually planning to build a fence full of barbed wire and broken glass to prevent people from disturbing their peace. You can do that with Jaeger, but it's unnecessary since one word from you, the government will send guards to look after it." 

"For what? To keep the royalists from thinking that Historia and Eren had a secret relationship, that he was the father of her daughter? I am tired of it. I am tired of people calling me 'EREN'S SISTER' just to keep their delusion alive." Mikasa sobbed."We're building a fence then."

"Can we work on a rose garden around it too?" She suggested last.

Levi accepted that Jaegerist managed to burn everything Hange owned; the mere fact made his blood boil, but what could he do? It happened already. 

"How did you know?" On his birthday, Levi received tons of gifts from friends. All of it is the things he loved, the little pleasures that made him feel alive. It is also the first birthday after the war, his first birthday without Hange, the only person who knows about it. "Don't you like it?"  Gabi asked. "He liked it so much that he stopped functioning." Connie joked, easing the child's worry. "Captain, do you remember when... when those assholes tried to burn the whole Survey Corps headquarter?" Jean carefully constructed his words so that his question wouldn't make Levi uncomfortable. "I do."  Armin took it as a signal to tell him what they did. "Months ago, we managed to save a few things by collecting what we could and by bribing some of the arsonists."  Connie and Jean, along with Onyakopon, carried boxes in front of Levi, "Huh?"  Confusion consumed him, "Open one." 

Inside the box, Hange's clothes and uniforms are neatly folded, "I thought..."  Levi opened another box, and it contained piles of their old research. "Everything that we gave to you today, captain, is from the commander's last to-buy list. They were supposed to give it to you after you came back from looking after Zeke."  Jean handed him a paper with Hange's handwriting on it.

Way back, they agreed that if one of them died, no one was allowed to cry. Levi could feel his tears from the side of his eyes, and he did his best to keep it from falling. 

"Thank you for watching over us," he mumbled. It won't bring them back to life, but it is enough to give him hope to live another day.

Archived research of Survey Corps that was led by Hange Zoe and their team was published; from the day he received it up to his last breath, he tried to make sense of their thousands of pages of writings. Hange really does write like they are running out of time.

He grieved, but he never cried, dedicated to keeping his promises to them. Levi proved to the world that he was the strongest man alive, with or without his physical strength. 

Levi was buried beside Hange. Finally, they fulfill their wishes to live together in peace.

Mikasa, on the other hand, helped Kaya to run Sasha's family orphanage. She raised funds and spoke out about the importance of peace, and diplomacy. She told the untold story of Eren's humanity, that he was left with no choice, and just like everyone, he feels regrets and remorse. Mikasa also reminded them Eren is no God.

In the children's eyes, she sees Eren, she sees herself, and their friends; glad that they are able to live in a world without walls. 

She might have chosen not to take part in what the others are doing, but Mikasa is proud of her work as much as she is proud of them. 

The time came; on the bed of roses, she was laid beside Eren. 

They lived, dedicated their hearts, and they successfully kept them alive.

Do you feel comfortable with sharing some hard numbers re: what the ship ranking is like, what people's favorite chapters were etc? I love statistics

Yes sure! I can give you some but I wouldn’t take them all at face value. The answers probably don't reflect fandom at large. Theyne was the second most popular ship here with Theonsa being one of the least popular ones but that's probably simply because I have a few Theyne shippers following me and because I block anyone who tags show narratives as asoiaf for my own well-being.

Also, I need to explain, I had a total of 114 submissions. Nine of those came from irls who, like me, came to know the books without any show influence but, unlike me, haven't interacted with the fandom. Their answers were not taken into account for these numbers since they don't represent the fandom - they are not even part of it - but I might mention them in the future when comparing their perception of certain things to common fandom tropes.

The following is based on the 105 submissions I got from the fandom. I don't think a single question was answered by everyone.

Ship you like engaging with the most:

Personal observation: The rarer the ship was (ex. Theyne & Greysnow), the more extensive was the person's response when they got to talk about it in the next question. Probably because they usually don't get to be that enthusiastic about them.

Personal Observation: Thramsay didn't surprise me, but Theonsa sure did. It was mostly chosen by Throbb and Theyne's and also by a small minor of book only people. There wasn't a lot of animosity for it in the way there was animosity for Thramsay though. Most of the throbb shippers who chose it just felt territorial about their Stark/Greyjoy ship and the Theynes were mad about so much stuff being taken from Jeyne.

When did you start liking Theon?

Personal Observation: Very surprised by this one. I haven't noticed any strong patterns in which fans chose which option either.

Personal Observation: Both of the former questions were very chaotic. Some chose four, some chose only two. One person chose them all and it was actually kind of cute, it made me chuckle.

Do you engage with AUs (including canon divergent ones)?

Personal Observation: Most of those who picked the Hard Yes (in survey as "Yes, AUs are my primary form of entertainment") were almost exclusively Throbb shippers (there was one thramsay person and one theyne person). I was surprised not to see Greysnow or Theonsa people pick it. Many of those who also chose that were particularly fond of the "Family issues, loyalty conflicts, inferiority complexes" option when they later chose what theme was most fundamental to Theon.

Darius watched the little group from behind the counter and found himself wondering if he was doing the right thing. They were all children, or barely adults, who had just lived through some of the toughest situations he could think of. Did he really want to be the one piling more things on top of them? Causing them more trouble than they deserved. Especially given everything they’d already encountered.

He didn’t really want to, and yet he also knew that there was no other little mismatched band he’d trust with something this big. He just hoped they could cope with each other, grateful that each of them had at least one person from beyond their story that they knew, to make the whole thing a little easier to wrap their heads around.

‘Darius?’ asked Fox, snapping his attention towards her. She was leaning on the counter, her eyes filled with something like concern. She’d been trying to bridge gaps while he got lost in his thoughts, talking about pranks and dares to break the ice. Nothing too serious, too personal, but enough to give him his time. ‘Are you all right?’

Darius heaved a deep sigh, shot her a small uncertain smile. ‘I will be,’ he assured her before picking up his own coffee and ushering her back towards the others.

This was the quietest the café had been. Sticking it in a time bubble was hard work but it had been the only way to stop them being interrupted and make sure that nobody lost out; yet it was draining him more than he thought it should. He just hoped it wouldn’t all be in vain.

Yet the place still wasn’t silent. The familiar café sounds from his machines and the fact that the group members were actually talking amongst themselves meant there was something. At least, they had been before he settled himself amongst them. Now they were quiet, looking towards him expectantly, eager for the answers they hoped, but didn’t actually expect, to get.

‘Thanks for coming,’ he said softly, his voice all of a sudden seeming to want to flee him. He took a calming sip of his too hot coffee before trying again. ‘I know I don’t usually summon you here.’

Something in the air shifted, as if they were all suddenly very much more alert. The tone was set. This was by no means a social call.

‘But I didn’t know who else to turn to,’ he admitted, glancing around at them all. The looks he was met with ranged from curiosity to fear, confusion to a slightly guarded look of someone still trying to make sense of their table fellows.

‘What is it, Mr. Kilvert?’ asked Lukas, rolling his eyes as Evangeline sniggered. A nervous tic.

Darius glanced towards Fox. She wasn’t the oldest at the table but she had been there the longest. He knew he could trust her reactions to things, even as she carefully surveyed Dominic, who looked slightly terrified, barely there a day. He spotted Sylvester surveying the table, still confused by the likes of Hal, Esme, Hector, Belle, Ronnie, Lukas and even himself. Timers that didn’t look right and never would. He noticed Willow glaring around the café, eyes only briefly resting on any of the others. Ella and Isaac seemed to have bridged their own unknowing and looked at him with matching concern and concentration. Gareth and Evangeline were drinking still, but they were on edge, ready for whatever bombshell he threw their way.

‘You’re not meant to go into another story, let alone to change things,’ Darius explained, attention trailing the group, trying to read them. ‘The key thing is pushing it but I could never get around to each story alone and I wanted a welcome of sorts for people.’

‘So we should be getting paid?’ asked Willow, and he could tell that she was only half joking. She merely shrugged indifferently when a few of the others glared at her.

Darius let out a somewhat relieved chuckle before continuing, knowing that he had to share this before he bottled it. Leaving it wasn’t an option any more, something needed to be done. Tris had gone too far this time.

‘Stories aren’t just about the heroes though.’

The comment hung heavily in the air. All attention snapped to him, drinks halfway to mouths.

‘There’s a villains café,’ noted Sylvester in a small voice.

‘Not every story has a villain,’ murmured Isaac.

‘Not all villains survive,’ added Fox, which was met with murmured agreement.

‘Villains aren’t so caught up in the rules I’ve found. Or at least,’ Darius added quickly as he spotted the mischievous looks passing between some of the multiheroes, ‘their keymaker isn’t. She’ll give them the key to save them if she deems it a worthy cause, all without changing things in the story.’ He didn’t bother trying to mask the bitterness from his voice, and he couldn’t find the words to explain it all to them, despite Sylvester’s look of question.

‘So – so they could all still be out there?’ asked Ella, voice a pitch or two higher than normal as she glanced around the table, horrified. A few returned the look but most seemed to slump in their seats, as if they expected nothing less from those they knew of.

‘We defeated them once,’ said Evangeline with her usual bravado, glancing at Lukas and Ronnie for assistance. The other girl looked terrified though, and Darius couldn’t blame her. ‘We can do it again.’

‘All of them?’ squeaked Dominic, who looked so pale Darius was worried he might faint on them. ‘All at once?’

‘One big bad per story usually. There’s five more of us,’ noted Fox softly, sharing a quick look with Sylvester, whose attention was still decidedly away from the larger part of the table.

‘You wanna deal with powers? With magic?’ asked Willow bitterly, glancing towards Esme and the boys as if it were their fault.

‘Let Es deal with them. The rest of us can –’

‘It’s not that simple, Hal.’

‘Fighting our own is pointless, we know – ’

‘You wanna pick ‘em out a hat?’

‘Quiet!’ snapped Fox, hitting the table as she stood up. All attention snapped to her, irritation, concern and hope written behind each expression in different mixtures. ‘The longer we argue amongst ourselves the more time they have to plan, to destroy a story – another story – that doesn’t deserve it.’ She sat down slowly, turned towards Darius calmly. There was a flicker of fear behind her eyes though. ‘What can you tell us about the ring leader?’

Darius let out a long breath, glanced around the group sat with him. ‘She’s  my sister,’ he admitted heavily. The comment was met with stunned silence so he filled it, knowing that it was now or never. ‘This café has been in our family for generations but she was never going to get it, or the power that comes with it. She said it was boing, listening to heroes complaining about boring lives following the demise of their villain. But she’s figured it out, somehow. She knows how to approach people in their worlds. How to pick the moment that won’t impact things, so nobody can accuse her of actually doing anything wrong. Really.’

‘Why’s she doing it, though?’ asked Isaac.

‘Don’t have to be a reason.’

‘For no reason whatsoever.’

Gareth and Ronnie spoke together, a slight look passed between them. A flicker of an understanding smile.

‘Because,’ explained Darius, hating that he had to admit to this, ‘she wants to make a name for herself. One that isn’t linked only to our family. Her own legacy.’

The café was eerily silent for a while, each of them dwelling on what they’d just had unloaded on them.

‘We’ll stop this,’ said Hector firmly.

‘Of course, we have luck on our side,’ joked Lukas, earning grateful grins from his friends.

‘We’re gonna need more than luck,’ noted Gareth, oblivious to the reference.

‘We need an action plan,’ agreed Belle.

‘Well then,’ announced Fox, giving Darius’s hand a gentle squeeze that did more to reassure him than any of their words so far, ‘we’d best start planning.’ She stood up, continued talking as she moved to grab paper from a drawer behind the counter, the one place that she knew about better than anyone else. ‘Write down anything you know about what caused you problems with your villains. Even if it’s something vague. Any information helps.’

For a moment Darius wondered if the likes of Evangeline and Willow were going to argue, but they didn’t. Resolve seemed to harden behind their eyes.

‘We’ll stop this. Don’t you worry, Darius,’ Esme assured him as she took her own piece of paper with a nervous smile, a nod of thanks.

‘Of course we will,’ agreed Hal, shining a winning smile around the group. ‘We’re heroes after all.’

‘Thank you,’ said Darius, wishing desperately that there was more he could say but not knowing quite how to put it. Instead he glanced around at them, united by a common challenge, and really hoped he’d made the right choice.

Shun hated that word with all his might.

But when the boys gathered together with nothing better to do, the topic usually changed to which newest idol girl or rookie actress is the cutest. All of them would then start shouting out why their biases were the cutest, except for Shun.

“C’mon, Shun-chan! You could at least pick one, vote for my girl!” Aoyama urged him to pick his imaginary girlfriend.

Shun looked at the picture of a row of cheerful-looking girls with fluffy uniforms and colorful ribbons decorating their heads, examining them carefully one by one.

“Hmm…they all look the same to me, so no one.” Shun just casually shrugged his shoulders.

“You’re kidding, right??” Kida grumbled, “They all are different people, famous idols!”

“But all their faces look similar to me. They all even wear the same outfits!”

“You must be blind, Shun-chan.”

“Then just name one person out there that you think befits the word ‘kawaii’. There’s gotta be someone! Even the little sister in your neighborhood is fine,” Akai said.

“Knowing Shun, he might say it’s his sister,” Aoyama piped in.

“Hmm, sis is always a lot older than me so I don’t think she’s cute. But my sis is pretty for sure!”

“I don’t know any boys group, but if I had to choose one, then it’s him.” Shun laid out a picture from his smartphone, of a red-haired boy, looking like a middle schooler but curiously with piercings on his ears.

“Eh? I’ve never seen this idol before, who is he?” Aoyama asked.

“Oh! Maybe he used to be a child actor?” Kida blurted randomly.

“What? He’s no idol! He’s a part-timer from my sis’ café. And he’s my friend.”

“Yep, his name is Souma. He’s actually 2 years older than us, can you believe it? That makes him kawaii, right?”

Akai, Aoyama, and Kida just stared at each other, speechless.

For materials of his new web-based short story, Motoharu once again surveyed the boys on what act or style or behavior they consider as ‘cool’ in men of all ages.

They were now at the café not long after the lunch rush-hour, when it closed for 3 hours to prepare for dinner.

“So from Hayate first, what is it?” Motoharu prodded.

The boy seemed to think hard on the topic. They waited for the whole 10 minutes in silence but no answer came out. Instead, the boy had started fidgeting in his seat and his face randomly went red out of the blue.

“Okay, understood.” Motoharu broke the silence and suddenly jotted something on his notes.

“Huh? But…I haven’t said anything?”

“For Hayate, everything Takayuki does and wears is the standard of cool men.”

“Whaa?! W-wait a min—” the poor boy stuttered, his blushes went all the way down to his neck.

“Next, Souma?”

“Igarashi-sense—”

“Hmm, since you mention Mima-san, I remember I’ve always thought that a guy is the coolest when they wear a suit. The complete 3-piece suit is even better!” Souma cut Hayate off.

“Ah, I think I get it.” Motoharu agreed. “We both don’t have many occasions to wear one, right?”

“Yeah! Also, I remember the 1st time I saw my bro wearing a suit, I just had to take his pics, I asked him to do this pose and that until he was late for his meeting, ahahahah-”

“That’s just cause you’re a brocon,” Shun grumbled audibly, looking very upset all of a sudden.

“Eh not just my brother, though. I agree with Hayate-kun, Mima-san has a good sense of fashion. Everything he wears looks good on him.”

“B-but I didn’t even say anything!” Hayate was flustered, looking around as if making sure that Mima was really not around.

“Maybe it’s because of his build, must be nice being that tall, right?” Souma added, ignoring Hayate.

“Okay, so for Souma, is the mature appeal, right? It’s a bonus point if they’re taller than average?”

“Yep!”

“And Shun?”

“Of course! Guys who play sports are the coolest!”

“Boo! That’s just like calling your own self ‘cool’, Shun-chan.” Souma gave him a tongue-out.

“I-I’m not! I think artists and creators like you, Souma, a-and Motoharu-san as well, are really cool and so is a brainy and quiet guy like Hayate-san, also a man that is good at his job like Mima-san is cool too!” Shun exclaimed in one breath.

“Aww, that’s so sweet of you, Shun.” Motoharu piped in.

“Aww, that’s so cute of you, Shun-chan.” Souma giggled.

The next day, Mima who wasn’t present yesterday and hence didn’t know anything, suddenly got a call from Shun, asking him about his height when he was a 3rd year high-schooler and if he still grew some inches during Uni days…

Despite the tradition, on Valentines, Souma always gives out ‘giri choco’ (friend chocolates) for Shun, Hayate, Mima, Motoharu. But it is only Shun whom he invited to his apartment for dinner where Souma would cook him all of his favorite dishes, from scratch.

Shun thinks that is because he’s special to Souma, that they are best friends.

Even though Shun is forever dense and can’t read between the lines, Souma is still happy to invite him every Valentine.

Because he knows how much Shun loves his cooking.

So he’s going to keep doing this until that boy comes around.

The reason why Shun went into modeling in his Uni days started when Souma needed a model for one of his final projects which was portrait photography.

He asked Mima first of course, but the guy only had one facial expression for all poses on the camera...

He asked Hayate next… but for heaven’s sake, that boy could not follow any of the instructions without blushing too hard and grimacing. Though his candid pictures did come out splendidly, it’s not like he could submit portraits where the only model was always staring at nothing on the wall or looking out the window…

Motoharu couldn't take irrelevant gigs which require his face going public without breaching his company's contracts, as the novelist had become even more popular nowadays.

Which turned out for the best.

He came out of the project with A mark and a lot of offers for jobs, which extended to Shun being scouted as a model.

Shun magically no longer shut his eyes when being captured on camera. And that only happened when Souma was the one behind the camera.

Shun also got praised a lot for being a handsome model and even got an offer to be scouted as an actor. They all said, for amateurs, they both showed great chemistry onsite and did a really great job, as a pair.

After all, Souma’s teacher said that 'the camera is the window to the cameraman’s heart'.

For some reason I like them best during this pining phase! It just feels right for now with how oblivious these two kids are lol

OK, so I have an opinion about your recent (strange at best) email invite I discovered in my inbox today. 

Let's go over it...

First, the basic idea is to find out what Amazon customers think about Amazon Delivery, & my first thought, I must admit, was... IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME

Then I kept reading, & laughing & even crying at one point...

YOU SAY... Survey is hosted by external entity, called Alida, ummmm WHY? Is Amazon afraid to ask me themselves? I've been begging Amazon to pay attention to DELIVERY ISSUES for at least a decade now, only to be hung up on, ignored or patronized.

YOU THEN SAY...

Telling me if I have ANY CONCERN about the authenticity of the email, that I should... TAP A LINK??? AS IF, REALLY?

Anyone who has used a computer or phone at any level has probably been told NEVER CLICK A LINK, ESPECIALLY IF UNSURE OF ITS ORIGEN.

But you want me to tap on in if I'm feeling weird... HINT HINT: WHY not say if you are not sure, come ask us directly thru our website, while signed into my account? That sounds safer to me...

AMAZON, this is EXACTLY what is wrong with Amazon Delivery, Amazon Customer Service, Amazon as a whole...

YOU DO NOT LISTEN WHEN GOOD CUSTOMERS TRY TO TELL YOU WHAT'S WRONG, BUT YOU THEN TELL CUSTOMERS TO GO AGAINST ALL BASIC COMPUTER SAFETY PROCEDURES...

Here are my survey answers, I'm just doing it my way READ IT AMAZON...

Amazon Delivery IS ONE GIANT ISSUE, because you allow the drivers to go by whatever rules they want to. INSTEAD OF PROTECTING THE INTEREST OF YOUR CUSTOMERS, WHO ARE GIVING YOU MONEY, You'd rather kowtow to the drivers you already overpay, to do a job, that only about 10% (& that's a kind guesstimate) actually know how to do, & then proceed to do properly... 

Amazon profile asked specifically for me to include specific notes regarding my deliveries in several fields, I WAS QUITE CLEAR WHEN FILLING THAT IN, but drivers DO NOT even read that section... they go ONLY by, "Where should we leave your package?" 

That's just one more blatant example of how BACKASSWARDS Amazon is, so it WASN'T just the email, BUT, the email did include icing on the cake, in the point that besides telling me to tap into an unknown link, within an email I may question, if a person taps your yellow SIGN UP BUTTON... IMMEDIATELY after being told to NEVER include personal info (SEE RED UNDERLINED SECTION)

Tap button and... the FIRST THING I SEE IS A FORM ASKING FOR THE EXACT INFO YOU JUST TOLD ME NOT TO INCLUDE... Oh, by the way, it don't say a single thing about Alida Survey, it says Amazon Delivery Service, shouldn't your IT PPL know that?

Try to pull your heads out, before you lose all your good customers, we are NOT hostages, there are OTHER WAYS to shop, my Amazon has dropped to a bare minimum of the business I used to give you, because I finally got SICK TO DEATH of paying good money for items I purchase, so your arrangatan drivers can drop kick, throw, or hurl it at my door, against the wall, or on several occasions, completely abandon it outside, cause they are too damn lazy to come to my apt door, inside building as politely requested IN MY PROFILE... and those who do come inside, toss it, take a pic, & flee the scene, like they murdered someone, without a single thought to stick out their arm & knock...

I'm ALWAYS HOME for deliveries, yet YOU & YOUR PEOPLE DO NOT CARE if I receive what I pay you to bring out, or if it's in one piece in the box, once they finish battering it... SO NOW, YOU STILL WANNA KNOW WHAT I THINK ABOUT AMAZON DELIVERY... MY RESPONSES HERE ARE BETTER THAN A MYSTERIOUS SURVEY...
