Xavier:

Will do his best to be a light and source of comfort for you

Xavier would stay close when getting out of bed feels impossible. But if you needed space, he’d respect that, keeping you company from a small distance in bed to remind you that you’re not completely alone. He wouldn’t let you stay curled up in bed for too long. He’d gently carry you to the kitchen to make sure you’re fed.

On days when your words don’t come easily and your thoughts feel jumbled, he never interrupts or rushes you. He stays quiet, a hand on top of yours, nodding along while letting you speak at your own pace even if your sentences come out jumbled. Occasionally, he might ask a question to understand the context. When you do finish what you’ve needed to say, he’ll work through it together with you

If you were taking any medications, he’ll go through the entire packet and read through any information about it online. He’ll remember all the side effects that come with it and checks up on you whenever you take them

When every little sound starts to feel like it was too much, he draws the curtains and does everything he can to make it more peaceful. He moves carefully, no sudden sounds will be made in this household. Even the way he eats or shifts in his seat would become more gentler. If you were comfortable with it, Xavier would gather you into his arms, holding you close against his chest. His hand rest gently over your ear, blocking out whatever noise is left.

Xavier would offer to listen and be the place where you can let it out. But if it’s an unexplainable feeling that you just can’t put into words then he’ll find a different way to cheer you up. He’ll settle beside you, pulling up your favorite comfort shows and have your snacks ready

Zayne:

Whenever getting out of bed feels like too much, he’ll leave a warm cup of tea and a few slices of fruit or your favorite snacks by the bedside table. He never rushes you so he waits. Sometimes he’ll sit nearby so you don’t feel alone. Other times, he gives you the space you want, trusting that you’ll reach out when you’re ready. But when it starts to feel like too much and the silence grows too heavy, he will step in. Never forcefully. He’ll encourage you to start off slow, a hand on yours. Maybe something as simple as sitting up or maybe just brushing your teeth.

Anytime you went through a depressive episode, Zayne has no problem doing the extra housework or helping you with your physical health. He’ll help you shower, brush through your hair gently, and help brush your teeth. He’ll praise you for each small step you take

The type to send you reminders to take your meds at the right time and that you should eat something before you take them so you don’t get nauseous.

Zayne would understand and has never taken it personally when you don’t want to be touched. He doesn’t try to hug or reach for your hand. Instead, he makes space for you until you you’re comfortable once again

He can tell when you get sad randomly. Zayne would never force you to explain but he will always remind you if you want to talk, he’s there. Sometimes when it’s just a quiet ache sitting in you for no reason, he’ll also understand that. He’ll suggest a walk out for fresh air or just for a different scenery if you’ve been inside for too long.

When the smallest sounds can feel too much, he’ll make sure to move extra quietly. He’ll offer noise cancelling headphones to drown out any sounds. Any open windows will be closed and he’ll draw the curtains to keep the noise out. He’ll make sure to close any of the doors inside softly, silence his phone and pager and he’ll make sure to give you the space you need.

Sometimes the words just don’t come out right but Zayne would never rush you. He would always be patient, even when your voice shakes or when you pause for too long. And when you do finally get them out, no matter how jumbled or messy it sounds, he listens. Every single word and every detail. Once you said all you needed to say, that’s when he speaks and helps

Reminds you that he is always there for you. Even if he was busy at work and you know he can’t reach you right now, you can still message him. He reminds you to never hesitate to reach out, spam him, leave him voice messages. He’ll read through every word and detail and he’ll find time to immediately reach out to you

Rafayel:

You would never feel alone if Rafayel was by your side. Even if he was away from an art exhibition, he would text you throughout the day. If you need him by your side, then he’s finding an excuse to get out of work and find his way to you.

When you’re having a hard time getting out of bed, Rafayel would be by your side under the covers so you don’t feel alone. However if you continue to have a hard time, he doesn’t hesitate to step in. He’ll scoop you up in his arms, carrying you to the bathroom. He’ll start with something simple, like a warm bath since it can maybe cheer you up.

When every noise seems to bother you, he’ll make sure to move around quietly in the studio. He’ll close up the windows and doors so his seagull friends won’t bother you. He’ll even breathe more quietly so he doesn’t bother you. Rafayel would still stay nearby but gives you your space to make sure you’re not alone. He’ll wait until you’re ready to talk with him

Rafayel would never take it personally when you did not want to be touched but he definitely does get a little pouty about it behind your back. He just misses holding onto you but he understands and gives you the space you need.

Feeling sad randomly? Rafayel would never push you to explain what’s wrong but he encourages you that it’s good to let it out and that he’s always there for you. However, if it was unexplainable, he doesn’t make you feel weird about it. He’ll find ways to cheer you up as best as he can. He’ll pull up videos on his phone and you silly videos he found that might make you smile. He’ll even suggest a quiet walk by the beach just for a change of scenery and for some fresh air

Sometimes the right words just won’t come. They get lost somewhere between your thoughts but Rafayel has never once looked at you confused or has never been impatient. He watches you carefully, trying to understand your expression. Sometimes he finishes the sentences for you, not to interrupt but because he’s piecing it together with you. And if you grow frustrated, he offers to sketch it out with you.

Sylus:

On days when getting out of bed feels impossible, he stays beside you but he doesn’t let you stay there for too long. He understands the weight of it all but he will step in. First he’ll start with encouragement, asking you to sit up just for a bit. But if your limbs feel too heavy and your body refuses to move, he never gets frustrated. He’ll carry you in his arms. He’ll run you a warm bath and help bathe you. Later he’ll encourage you to do some small activities with him to get you a little motivated

He would never take it personally if you were not in the mood to be touched. There’s no wounded ego or disappointment. He gives you the space that you need until you are ready to curl up next to him again. He’ll make sure you were absolutely comfortable with it before he reaches back

Sylus would always give you the choice to talk or cry or let it out to him in whatever way you need. But if it’s those days where it’s just unexplainable, he doesn’t press on. Instead, he’ll offer distractions. He’ll pull out a new vinyl that he’s been saving for or maybe stepping out to a new scenery to get rid of whatever ache you have in your chest

When the world feels too loud and your thoughts won’t slow down, no matter how hard you try to explain to Sylus through hiccupped sobs, he doesn’t ask you to make sense of it. Instead, he pulls you into his arms. He doesn’t say much at first, his hand moves slowly up and down your back. He doesn’t need you to have the right words. He’ll listen, hiccupped sobs or not, to every detail you have to say. When your sobs begin to slow, when you start to breathe a little easier, he’s still there, helping you sort through the weight you've been carrying. It doesn’t matter if the problem is big or small. He’ll work them out with you together.

Luckily your shared bedroom is at the top floor to avoid any noises from the city. However if any noise continues to bother you, Sylus wouldn’t ask what’s wrong, he’ll just move around quietly as best as he can. He’ll stop playing any music on his record player unless you don’t want him too. He’ll make sure Luke and Kieran are not in the same building and he’ll make sure to mute Mephisto

Caleb:

Having a hard time getting out of bed? Caleb would give you the space you need, leaving you your favorite snacks and water by the bedside table with a cute little note and a doodle for you. He’ll check in on you often to see if you’ve eaten or just by ‘passing’ by the room. However if it does stretch on, he’ll kneel beside the bed and offer his hand, suggesting a few easy stretches. He’ll encourage just a small stretch for your arms and then legs next and then a small little walk to the kitchen where he has a little meal waiting in the kitchen just for you

As much as Caleb loves to hold you and have you in his arms, he would never be offended if you did not want to be touched. He would never hover and never pressure you. He gives you all the space and time you need when you’re comfortable again

Feeling sad out of nowhere? He would be SO worried, it would be written all over his face. His first instinct is to check in, offering to let you vent out if you need to. He’s always been a good listener. If it just feels unexplainable and you can’t quite name the reason, then he’ll find ways to cheer you up. Caleb would curl up with you and pull up your favorite comfort shows or movies. Or he’ll bring you your favorite snack or make your favorite dish that you love. And of course, he offers his signature big bear hug.

If any sounds were bothering you, he’d make sure to not make a single sound in the house. No loud footsteps in the halls, no clinking dishes, you name it. He’d even go as far as making sure no plane flies in the direction over your home to make sure you get the peace you need.

Sometimes you can’t get the right words to come out and Caleb would be patient with you the entire time. He lets you speak and lets you take all the time you need to get it out. His hand rests on yours, his thumb traces slow, soothing circles over your knuckles as he reads your expressions carefully. If any tears come out from frustration, he cups your face with so much care and wipes away any stray tears.

Well I said I'd never make another tumblr after I left during the whole porn ban fallout but here I am askhgsj!! PLEASE tell me there's an active OFMD fandom over here because I finally finished watching it over the weekend and I learned that apparently there's an Ed and Stede shaped hole in my life and I'm about to drive everyone I know insane talking about them aslkglaksjjk

anyway MY TAKES!!!

so first of all this show is actually gay. like for real real. I watched the first season with a friend who's pretty big into shipping (no shade, I'm just not into that kind of fandom) and I fully expected this to just be queerbait. FRIENDS I'M STILL SHOOK ABOUT THIS akhgaj, I haven't been able to stop smiling since I finished it!! Because they're actually gay! And that's the point! THE POINT IS IT'S A LOVE STORY ABOUT STEDE AND ED HELLLOOO CAN ANYONE HEAR ME!!! Seriously I hadn't known how much I needed this show until I had it, I've never actually felt like the target audience for a show before

they could have made Ed and Stede so boring and one note AND THEY DIDN'T! I was sure from hearing my friend explain the premise that Stede would be this boring posh guy who's scared of everything, and Ed would be all tough and badass and boring, and that would be it. But no. Stede's a total weirdo who says "buckos" and picks up noses off the floor with his bare hands and Ed's an adorable dork who is scared of his own spider tattoo. I love them your honor akghaskj

also can i just say. Ed's fashion sense. Yes I get that the whole show is about masculinity and he's forcing himself into a style of masculinity that's restrictive and reductive. But consider: IT LOOKS HOT akshgakj I'm obsessed with his jacket with the shark teeth on it (as you can probably guess by the username lol)

SPEAKING OF ED I'll admit I hadn't thought of this until I saw people talking about it but reading his story as a trans man allegory works SO WELL! It's ABOUT him trying to live up to an impossible ideal of masculinity and killing himself in the process and being enraptured with a guy who's soft and learning to find a kind of masculinity he's comfortable with! I'm chewing my own arm off! I loved Jim (canon nonbinary rep holy shit) but as a trans man I just love this read for Ed's character so much 🥹

This is unrelated but my friend had also been trying to get me to watch The Last of Us and the two shows kinda melded in my mind I think? I figured it out eventually but at the end of season 1 episode 3 after Stede's been stabbed and there's the dramatic lighting and everything I was not thinking "oh boy Stede's about to meet the love of his life," I was pretty sure it was zombie time and thinking "oh no and now he has to deal with the zombies too???" alsghaklgk. I was all "is Blackbeard a zombie hunter" and my friend was like. "WHAT" akghjkjgkk

I watched season 2 on my own and my friend had warned me that there were budget cuts and cut episodes and w/e, and obviously I'm sad there's no third season to look forward to but I still really liked the ending and if I hadn't been told there was anything up with the season I don't think I'd have guessed!! They're safe and they're together and they just get to be Ed and Stede now :')

my friend did warn me I probably wouldn't like where they took Izzy in season 2 and...they were right akhgaskfj, it wasn't bad or anything and I liked that Izzy apologized at the end and stopped being so shitty to everyone but I just couldn't get past what he did to Ed in season 1. Plus he just didn't feel the same when he wasn't being weird all the time 😔. I didn't really like Jim's line about how "he was Ed's friend," like Jim. my friend. WAS HE LMAO my friends don't usually call the British Navy on me and stab my boyfriend

on that note though I made the mistake of logging onto Twitter for the first time in like two years to see what people were saying after I watched season 1, and I got a bit worried when I saw people saying that Ed's actions in season 2 made him irredeemable. But uh. He told them to eat cake and then made them kill him, it sucked but I was expecting way worse asksksksgk, I just felt bad for Ed honestly (which I think was intended obviously)

I am so picky with TV shows but everything about OFMD was just so fucking GOOD! The writing, the acting, the cinematography - everyone came into this show to do A GOOD JOB and it SHOWS

STEDE BONNET IS MY BEST FRIEND look at how far he came!!! He was so scared to even talk about running away with Ed in season 1 but now he's all in too 🥹🥹🥹

and I know I already said this but if you told me ten years ago my new favorite show would be one that was entirely about the central gay couple and they canonically kiss and have sex and love each other I wouldn't believe you!!! THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD

The thunderbolts* are fighting on the streets rescuing civilians and what not and red guardian and Bucky are distracted when a van/car/bus heads for the civilians yelena is helping and she looks up terrified/resigned to her fate and then 3 arrows fly past hit the ground right in front of the 3 tires on one side of the bus and explode into purple goop slowing the bus down and as Yelena takes a breath another arrow shoots past flies parallel to the other side of the slowed bus and explodes mid flight (of the arrow) creating a blast that along with the goop on the other side tips the bus on its side stuck to the ground with the goop.

Yelena looks behind her but there’s too much mayhem to make out much. But there’s a flash of purple on a balcony/blown out window which seems to be parkour in off somewhere.

After everything is calmed the thunderbolts* find webs here and there but no sins of any arrows (because most of them would have been trick arrows that don’t survive the trick) but Yelena finds one eventually more than one even they are all buried in various limbs of multiple police officers wearing a vest with a skull painted on it all of them knocked out around a warehouse district with no civilians around. So Yelena retrieves all the arrows.

Please do something with this.

For your context if you haven’t watched the latest season of daredevil, Fisk the big ugly has become the mayor of New York, declared martial law, a war on all vigilantes and has recruited corrupt police officers to become his own private militia who have adopted the symbol of the punisher (an anti hero) as their symbol, fully against his wishes. In the last episode of this season Fisk had Kate’s almost stepfather Denny, along with other wealthy socialites who went against Fisk and the real punisher Frank in a cage somewhere in a large basement. In a final scene Frank does potentially escape but what’s to say what happens.

I just love your fics in which Kate is shown to be awesome and fat learner and a genius at picking up new skills but like in your fics and many others Kate’s best skill that she is most confident in doesn’t have much chance to shine or be shown off in front of Yelena. I’ve always wanted to see a Yelena being impressed by Kate’s skills too which you know works best when a hawkeye works at a distance.

Also this mass panic in New York going out from the avengers tower must bring back Kate’s most traumatic memories and she would want to contribute save someone’s father. And I hardly believe Marvel cares about is characters enough to give even a periphery hint of other New York heroes involvement.

♡ he's spoon feeding you medicine when you're sick. the cough syrup, horse pills for when you get strep, making sure to keep the heating pack warm.

♡ but he also knows you too good. too good. he knows everything about you less than 6 months into dating. he just cares that much about you- so he can just feel when you've had a bad day from the first 10 seconds he's home from shift. he'll set everything up for you, but also gives you space.

TPOT 17 SPOILERS

Ok so it's finally out and I need to word vomit about it cause this episode was PEAK

First off Pen being sad and watching Blocky's old show for comfort, at least TV is finally doing something. Pen is going through some shit losing both his best friends and seeing it expanded upon is great.

IM SORRY BASKETBALL IS JUST HERE?? SHES OKAY?? I had thought One kidnapped her too but I guess not, but none of the other eliminated contestants mention anything about One. Has Basketball NOT SAID ANYTHING TO THEM!!??!! She was one of the people to resist their the deal and knew something was up. Even is One jumbled her speech or something so nobody could understand wouldn't they at least mention something?? Either way nice to see these guys again, also theories on where the EXIT door leads, I personally agree with it being either the second hotel door or equation playground. No Gatey though so they've more then definitely been kidnapped.

Oh Bottle's hosting this episode? Cool I like her silly vibes god knows CloudYay need it right now they stresses about the elimination. But also it's kinda sad seeing other people keep hosting for Two I really enjoyed them.

Pencil's panic attack was cool to see, last she remembers it was vote to eliminate so frankly it was pretty reasonable. Donut having to calm her down and remind her it's vote to save.

Anyway eliminations and honestly I think this was best case scenario. As much as I like Pillow and YellowFace most of the team was going through more important arcs. The only person I feel could be switched in without too much changing is Winner. Also YellowFace being so panicked and not wanting to go, things were finally going really well for him with Taggy. Hopefully they will be able to keep the warehouse going without him.

This whole scene with Fanny and Tennis Ball was cool, seeing how One is actively attempting to stop word spreading. I've already seen other people decipher the board so I'm not going to put it here (I'm lazy ik and also don't care).

Damn, Two still got depression and looks like shit, they're just bed rotting. I can't personally comment on how accurate the portrayal is but from what I've heard it's pretty accurate. Give them their wife back PLEASE I NEED TO SO THEM HOST AGAIN.

THE FOURSE RETURNS HAHA IT'S SO ANGRY I LOVE HIM

The eating contest was some fun comic relief while everything else was happening, interesting teams to put on it as well. We got Black Hole sucking his up, Taggy selling theirs (nice to see the failed debuters out and about as well as the giant David) and Winner just... absorbing it? Liy being the only one who has to eat normally. Black Hole's little moral dilemma with the bugs was great, seeing him learn to balance the P.A.C.T with finishing challenges, he was trying so hard. Also Winner with the Loser O's, seeing that Loser maybe cared more about him then he thought, Also Loser not being famous anymore? Damn that episode really came back to haunt him.

I don't really have much to say about these guys, it was pretty tame compared with everything else going on. Nice to see Pen trying to branch out and connect with people.

Pencil and Book crash outs HOLY SHIT THIS WENT HARD! Pencil is traumatized from being in the E.X.I.T for years and wants things back to the way they were before with the alliance but has no idea how to convey her emotions properly which leads to her seeming obsessive and selfish. Her actions are sill bad but it's clear it's because she's hurt and traumatized and because of that is left emotionally unstable which leads to her accidently pushing away the people around her. Despite this I find Book pretty reasonable in her reaction if you look at it from her perspective, she had just managed to repair her relationship with Icy by giving her space and has practically forgotten about Freesmart till Pencil joined back. By this point Book has moved on and found new friends in Winner and Taggy but Pencil just comes in and expects Book to immediately want the alliance back. Book needed the same space Icy did for there to be a chance at healing their relationship but Pencil, unlike Book at that time, is highly unstable and unable to regulate her emotions so she suffocated Book which only leads to things getting worse. Pencil desperately needs some therapy.

In the end, Pen's talk with Pencil does give some hope at a redemption arc, it would be messy and painful but possible. Pen understands what it's like to lose all your close friends, and he could have become like Pencil except he still had people to catch him, namely Liy. Pencil had nobody going back into the game. Hopefully Pencil will listen to him and maybe Pen could continue helping Pencil become better.

Going back to some tamer stuff for a bit the haunted house group was interesting to watch. The writers finally gave TV something to do which is great but he's still one I wouldn't mind getting eliminated. The nature vs mechanical theme was interesting and just more showing of the slight negative bias towards mechanical minds from the contestants. Admittedly though Tree had a point for leaving TV to save both himself and Grassy but TV still had a right to be mad. Him controlling the spider mech was cool, Spid-TV lol. The fight scene was cool and just having Tennis Ball and the Fourse crash onto the mech was funny

Now onto the best part of the episode, Donut unironically just became on of my favourite characters now because of this episode. One's room is destroyed and she is clearly unstable, things are falling apart for her and Donut's ass is not helping that. He is suspicious from the start about the contract and is the first I believe to actually ask what's in it which One immediately deflects. As their interaction continues One becomes more and more agitated by Donut's refusal to sign, eventually having a full crash out while slamming him against a table and stealing his legs as well. Props to Donut here for sticking to his guns and not changing his mind despite having his last limbs actively ripped off which kinda reminded me of BFDIA Pin when her limbs were removed. Connection? Probably not but fun to note. Also notice how One has switched from manipulation and sweet talk to straight up threats and blackmail to get deals, most people left in the game to take for deals are smarter and questioning her which isn't great for One. Her facade is breaking apart as she has to put more and more effort into securing deals.

I also wanted to go into Donut getting his limbs back anyway at the end of the episode. I believe this could represent how One is actually quite powerless in a way. Sure she has her magic which we've seen to be very powerful but it can't control others. While we don't know right now why One needs to make deals with the contestants it's clear they're important to whatever plan she has. And to get those contracts the contestants have to actively sign them, she NEEDS the co-operation of the contestants and that's not something she can force through her magic, they always have the option to deny her no matter what she does. We see through this scene that the contestants don't need One to solve their problems and without her they will find a solution on their own. I like to think that if One hadn't interfered when she did for any of the deals they would likely solve their own problem soon after like shown here. And that's not even mentioning the POWER Donut has right now. While contestants like Fanny, Ice Cube, Gatey and Basketball know something is wrong, especially Fanny as we see her actively try to show Tennis Ball he research, they are all under contract. They have all accepted a deal. DONUT NEVER ACCEPTED THE DEAL AND NOW KNOWS WHATS GOING ON WITHOUT ONE BEING ABLE TO CALL IN A FAVOUR TO STOP HIM. He is now arguably the most powerful out of the resistance gang now due to this.

Now this last part is purely speculation so it could easily be proven false but I noticed how both Fanny and Ice Cube could make out their research while Tennis Ball couldn't. While this could just be One messing up his vision specifically what if knowledge about One determines if someone can see the board. Tennis Ball has never seen one like Fanny and Ice Cube and would, by this logic, not understand the writing. But Donut, who has seen one would be able to. I hope that makes sense.

In conclusion this episode was peak, thanks for listening to this long ass ramble

After watching the season, I'll say it: I like what they've done with him more than in past seasons. Because, you know, at least we got to see some of his personality and we got Inventor Jay back, and NOW I'm more interested in the direction his character is going. So, additional notes:

- PONYTAIL JAY STILL LOOKS GOOD AND I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY SAY. I also love that they made the ninjas not react because it's literally your typical samurai hairstyle. I told you it wasn't that big a deal.

- INVENTOR JAY. NEVER LOOSE FAITH 🔥🔥

- I'm sorry, but now everything makes the "I'll always hate you" thing so much worse because now it's like you can take it off and it doesn't change anything, and they just did it for the cheap angst 😭 I still say they should have made him look at her with indifference and walk away silently.

- Inventor Jay attacking in the sky and being strategic and knowing how to locate his enemies ^^ idc, that guy has killed before

-I like that it's very obvious what his fighting style is and the mistakes he makes: when he's impulsive and thinks he can take heavy damage. But when he has time to actually think, a lot of space, there's no way he can be touched. The scene where he's shooting back and forth in the sky and DID have some things planned when something went wrong is what Jay should be doing all the time. Be stealthy and fast and never give the enemy a chance to hit him back.

- The way he doesn't let others get close or touch him fjdjf I think at this point he knows they "know" him but is in the denial stage and wants to stay as far away as possible because he still doesn't trust their intentions.

- I didn't expect him to actually know where Arin's parents are. I guess he did his job. Sometimes. And in a questionable way. Because he still sent them to a very strange place.

In conclusion, I HOPE we get slow slow burn Jaya and him reconnecting with the team little by little before recovering his memories. Please don't make him become friends with them from one episode to the next. I also hope we get to see him as an antihero for a longer period of time. I'd like him to be resentful of the fact that his idea for the wings was copied lol

Sunny: Page of Hope, hes definitely a page considering his big adventurous dreams and fear of actually trying to live up to them. i say hope with mid confidence because he spends a lot more time thinking of how things could be perfect than he does actually enacting anything

Kel: Heir of Breath, a simple guy with a simple philosophy, believes in himself and pushes others to change and keep moving forward.

Mari: Seer of Space, the guide of calm and peaceful existence, her emotional advice helps bring Sunny back to a state of peaceful neutrality.

Hero: Knight of Life, always working hard to be what others need of him, trying to provide and make everyone else happy, keeping up the positivity no matter what.

Aubrey: Sylph of Heart? wants others to be better, but she's a bit pushy and bossy. gets really mad at others for not understanding her feelings and caring for her when she needed it. she is the emotional heart of the group at least in the dream world

Basil: Rogue of Doom, well even before The Incident he is always thinking about even the good times in terms of loss, "I always took pictures of what I was afraid to lose." he tries his hardest to make everything ok, to take suffering away for sunny

Twilight Sparkle: Mage of Mind, she's obsessed with gaining knowledge for herself and navigating situations rationally and logically. the whole "Princess of Friendship" thing feels like it's pushing her into inversion (Heiress of Heart), outside her comfort zone, if you think classpects are primarily meant to challenge then you could go with that as her title

Applejack: Maid of Blood, she lives by the ideals of responsibility and family bonds, and is always working hard to uphold them.

Pinkie Pie: Sylph of Life, she's always partying and working on ways to make others happy as much as possible, increasing happiness and struggling hard when someone doesn't want her help or when she can't keep the good times rolling.

Rainbow Dash: Thief of Breath, fairly obvious in her competitive pride and lax attitude believing everythings gonna be okay, averse to responsibility despite being the actual element of loyalty. Like more often than not, RD episodes will have her struggling with loyalty instead of it being her default.

Rarity: Sylph of Space because she is literally Kanaya. No but seriously, the constant working on things for others and appreciation for aesthetics, and more broadly the vision she has for improving the world around her, is why i think this.

Fluttershy: Rogue of... Hope? She has so much focus on "kindness" which is very hard for me to actually pin to an aspect. She totally minimizes herself for others and helps get them what they want, "taking" comfort for them in a troubling world, which is why i think she's a Rogue, but... after her episode learning to be more assertive, going against her nature, she seems to invert on a dime whenever it's necessary, displaying a powerful Rage. Is that an inversion or just her hidden default? To me it reads as the former, but nothing's really made me sure of that.

Starlight Glimmer: Scribe of Heart, sorry you're gonna have to read dewdrop's classpect brochure if you wanna understand this one. But basically Heart is her tool of judging good and evil, her argumentative attitude she tries to stuff down, conquering and bending emotion/unique personality to her will

Shinji Ikari: Page of Rage, same desire to be strong and important and loved, same inability to get there. Rage is harsh reality which Shinji is definitely hesitant to confront, but his "righteous" anger definitely drives him at his core, particularly in a lot of his worst moments.

Asuka Langley Soryu: Thief of Time, competitive pride and stealing the spotlight, you may think Light but i don't think she has the tendency toward narrativization, connecting ideas together, fortune, all that Lighty stuff. No, i think Asuka cares more about action and conflict, the stuff that makes up Time.

Rei Ayanami: Knight of Heart? She does her job, protects others, spends a LOT of time introspecting and developing more emotion, reflecting on the soul and her own humanity, then decides to give all the power to someone else instead. Could be a Maid, considering the connotations of serving ones aspect, propagating and serving as a tool to bring it into existence. I'm not completely sure on this one

Kaworu: Seer of Space, he attaches to Shinji and tries to gently guide him to appreciating existence and the universe as it is. I'm definitely more sure of the Space part here than with Mari

Mari Makinami Illustrious: Witch of Breath, she is the chaos element, living positively and freely, unencumbered by anyone's expectations and worries, not even in combat does she ever drop the carefree attitude. Witch because she's focused on personal fun and making change as she sees fit.

Some other random characters

Kirby: Heir of Space, once i started understanding the Space aspect as existence/inaction/peace i started seeing it all over the Kirby series. Nobody ever dies, everyone just chills out and sleeps in Dreamland, Kirby is the face of this because he is the most chilled out dude ever, until some villain shows up and he has to get serious. I say Heir because, while Kirby hasn't said much, he seems to me like a simple guy who just fixes situations for others when necessary.

Prince Zuko: Prince of Blood, he's got the prince thing of strong reaction to perceived injustices, which uhh doesnt go great for him. He destroys a lot in the name of reclaiming his honor and connection to his family, his responsibility, but ultimately realizes he has to destroy that itself and find his own meaning of Blood.

Davey Stone: Bard of Hope, yeah the guy from Eight Crazy Nights, he wants to believe in hope and hanukkah holiday spirit and stuff like that but when his is ruined he turns to destruction of hope and ruining everyone elses good times, letting people think of him as a nasty bastard because he doesnt care anymore. By the way dont watch this movie it sucks ass

FIRST SOLDIER EPISODE 2 CHAPTER 3

It's that time again! I'm so excited to be recapping the latest chapter for you guys. I'm sure we're going to get some really juicy stuff for this one. Let's not waste time and dive right in!

When we last left our heroes, Miniroth and Babygeal were still squabbling and having weird wish-fulfillment dreams, Alissa infodumped a lot about lore with Jenova and the Cetra, Miniroth became entranced at the idea of taking the sword "back", and the group arrived at a weird-ass temple. Also the sword may or may not be carrying a malevolent influence that directly comes from Jenova. And Alissa herself may also be Jenova in disguise, it's still unclear.

ANYWAY, the group finally sets out to explore the temple. Bachman notes how strange Seph is acting. Angeal himself is skeptical about the temple. But they proceed regardless.

Entering the temple, we see more purple orbs. This is the cavern temple of Hodono. Bachman talks about how there are five statues that watch over this area. Bachman is weirded out that he knows the lore of the area despite never being here before. Same thing happened with Alissa in the last chapter...

Bachman says this is a "hero's trial". Sephiroth doesn't care about heroics. He just wants the sword.

They find a monument inside the temple. Weird ancient markings. More purple visions like last chapter. Da-Chao name drop with the ghosts talking about how everything is burning outside. Bachman starts being able to READ the markings. It talks about the Five Swords of Igara and how they fought "the beast". Bachman claims he heard a voice in his head telling him what to say.

So the statues are the five swords of Igara. Alissa says that Bachman "has the land's favor". Angeal is very weirded out. Seph doesn't care lol still just wants sword.

We find cuts all over the walls. Sephiroth is sure it was from old man Masamune. Another vision. This one of Masamune forging the sword. He held something sparkly in his hand that he used to make it...

Sephiroth says that the sword didn't possess Masamune--he knew what it could do. And it has already decided that SEPHIROTH should be the one to wield it. Angeal says that this place is trying to trick them somehow. Everyone blows him off.

We come up to one of the five statues. The one who sealed the monster away in the statue was Baltai, a warrior of Igara. There's a lore dump on him (and the other warriors) but I'll save that for later as it doesn't have much to do with the present. So the deal is basically we're gonna fight all the monsters in all the statues lol lovely.

Monster defeated. If we defeat all the monsters, the inner door will open. And behind that...Masamune. Angeal says that something is REALLY REALLY OFF about this place but once again...blown off lol

I wander around in the dark for five minutes looking for the other statues. Statue 2. Another monster. Rinse and repeat I guess lol. Angeal keeps asking questions. Maybe the power of the statues is to PREVENT people from going inside the main chamber. Miniroth ignores him.

The last statue is of Da Chao himself. Bachman compares him to Miniroth. A hero among heroes.

Angeal pauses the group, suggesting they take a break to clear their heads. He thinks the group is acting really weird. Sephiroth doesn't want to stop since the sword is so close.

We see a flashback. It's when Angeal got assigned to Robio. He asked about Sephiroth but questions why Seph never came to the mission briefing. The rando tells him that Sephiroth is special and always gets the job done. Back to the present, Angeal relents and follows the group.

Finally reached the Da-Chao statue. More lore dumps. Sephiroth is WAY too into this shit, directly talking to the statue and challenging it lmao calm down bro.

Anyway, I complete all of the statues. A lot of lore but I wanted to get a move on here. The open seal leads to a winding stairway underground. Angeal stops the group AGAIN to say this is too dangerous. He starts questioning literally everything leading up to this. And he points out how obsessed Sephiroth has become. Alissa keeps telling Angeal to just "accept it". She's talking like it's a cult... And Sephiroth is going along with it.

Angeal pushes him down and tells him to get a hold of himself lmao But Sephiroth is adamant about getting that sword. He pushes Angeal too. So now the girls are fighting sighhhh.

Sephiroth said that Masamune made that sword for HIM. HE is the rightful owner. He doesn't find this impulse strange at all. They have to keep going.

We finally enter the main cavern where Masamune is waiting.

Angeal (who got left behind on the floor lol) notices the purple shit and tells them to get away. We see him having another weird vision of him and his parents at Costa del Sol. This is clearly not real--another wish fulfillment vision. He finally gets to treat his parents to luxury.

But Angeal KNOWS this isn't real. This is just a hallucination! It never happened!

Because...his father was dead. Oh fuck guys...

Angeal blames himself for the death of his dad because of the sword....I'M BAWLING ASDFGHFDS

He hears his parents calling him and a vision of Gillian tries to gaslight him about "rocking the boat". This is honestly really upsetting. Angeal tells her that she's NOT his mother. The vision turns into a monster, which he fights and breaks the illusion. Angeal promises to be true to his own sense of justice. LET'S GOOOO.

Anyway, Angeal recognizes that the purple shit isn't REAL He's got to do something!!!! He already knows that Sephiroth is probably experiencing these visions too. He runs after the group to save them!

Back in the cavern. Sephiroth collapses and starts having visions too. Oh shit it's when Team Glenn returned from Rhadore! Sephiroth is receiving a promotion! But Sephiroth is confused since the island sank and the mission was a failure. LOL I guess the President wants to cover that up. Team Glenn has a party in his cell but Sephiroth doesn't get why they're celebrating. Matt says they should do a mission in Wutai next.

A commanding officer steps in to detain them. Sephiroth won't get in trouble but they will. Glenn left the dog with Seph. Seph is sad to lose them. Weird...so then how did Glenn get Refu? Hm...

Sephiroth comes back to himself and approaches Masamune. But just as he reaches for it, purple shit everywhere. Masamune comes to life and says he will judge if Seph is worthy.

After a quick fight, Masamune says Seph is the one he's been looking for. He asks Sephiroth for his name. HE says Seph is worthy...but will the spirits? He says that it was their voices that commanded him to forge the blade.

Purple shit everywhere. Seph reaches for the sword but it vanishes! This is still part of Sephiroth's test.

A voice in the dark, calling to Sephiroth...it's Glenn's....

The chapter ends here! But there's bonus content of course like the other times.

Bachman's entry first. Sephiroth is distressed at hearing Glenn's voice. Bachman just recaps everything so far.

SEPHIROTH VISION TIME. IT'S HIM IN THE LAB WITH HOJO SADFGHFDSADFGFD HOJO IS FORCING HIM TO FIGHT MONSTERS BUT THEN FAKE-LUCRECIA STEPS IN AND TELLS HOJO TO STOP FORCING SEPH TO FIGHT! Seph protects her from the lab monster. This is so cheesy. She leads Seph out of the arena lmao And then patches him up in his cell. Seph tells her not to interrupt combat testing again--it's dangerous! But Lucrecia can't bear to see him get hurt! She wants to protect him. Lucrecia keeps telling Sephiroth to sleep and not worry about waking up. Sephiroth says that Lucrecia is the only person in the world who cares. He just wants to protect her.

Angeal next. It's the fucking funeral of his dad FUCKKKK The false-vision of his mom says that ANGEAL killed him! This really is his fault! All because of that sword. Angeal beats himself up. He keeps blaming himself. GUYSSSSSSS. But Angeal from the present wakes him out of his vision. He HAS to keep pressing forward! He won't yield to these visions!

And that's it! No Genesis. But we did get that Hojo cameo lol

tbh there's also something a loooot of ppl need to learn calling "setting realistic expectations." i personally wouldn't want eddie back without an on-screen conversation between him and CHRIS about what CHRIS wants, otherwise his entire plot in texas would feel kinda moot with a throwaway "yeah chris is fine with coming back to LA :)" since this plot was big enough for eddie to drop everything to go finally make things right with his son. i didn't expect for him to show up for the two-parter. meanwhile, everyone i saw who was momentarily disappointed bc no tommy was like "ah well, we know we're almost definitely getting him next episode bc of leaks" and went on to enjoy the episode as a whole

its genuinely fine to go "aw no eddie? :(" its Not fine to review bomb an episode and repeatedly bitch about the director not putting ur favorite man in the episode when it makes 0 sense for him to come back so quickly and without showing us that he IS still working on being a better dad to chris. hell, go write fanfic about it where eddie IS back instead of review bombing!!! that's probably a way more fun use of time than review bombing!!!

honestly, these fans make me dislike eddie more and more ngl which isn't even the actor or the writers faults at all. if he leaves the show then it's not going to impact me that much unless his ending is fully unsatisfying, and that'll be more of a "cmon, writers, you knew this was where this was going, do better." i have never watched the show only for eddie like these people have. came into the show expecting to love madney + henren and ended up very emotionally invested in bathena while enjoying buck and eddie as well. i'm on the same page as a lot of ppl who have been here longer than i have been: we love the entire show rather than just eddie. honestly, i think half of these people don't even like buck. i already know most of them don't give a shit about the rest of the show from insulting ravi over him distracting buck with tommy to turning josh into the "number 1 b*ddie cheerleader" to ignoring henren unless they can use them as a "gotcha!!! you don't actually care about queer rep!!!" like.

the more I hear from the cast talk about what was cut out this season, the more pissed I get — simone apparently had a powerful two page monologue for lottie, sammi talking about a scene with misty and mari that got her super emotional and would add more layers to why mari is the way she is, the scene where nat finds misty with the box was supposed to be longer but instead turned into a flashback sequence, there was a lottie & tai comfort scene that could have added more dynamic and understanding to their relationship, adult tai had a whole heartfelt speech written by the same taivan season one writer during van's burial which said so much and tawny loved (heck the scene made it to the opening credits with tai having dirt in her mouth again, but didn't make it to the actual episode), vanessa saying gen pushing nat was actually to try and gain melissa's attention again. where the fuck was evans johnson and jane widdop? can we bring back those longer seasons please instead of stuffing everything into 10 or so episodes to flesh-out the characters and their arcs if you already have the filmed and written content! ahhh! hate the industry limitations. this type of limited episode format really doesn't work for thriller / horror shows that follow more than one character and journey...

all this cutting and reformatting really is the reason this season flopped compared to the last two. so much more confusing set-ups than rewarding answers, so many scenes and moments abandoned, so many past references ignored, so many character directions lost to fast forward plot-lines. the pacing was just jarring in some areas of the season, for the adult time-line especially from 1 to 2-4 to 5 to 6-7 to 8-9 to 10.

it also doesn't help knowing that adult melissa scenes were last minute additions to the script — that hilary swank had nothing to read literally two weeks before all filming stopped which makes van's sudden death rushed and unsatisfying for all the wrong reasons. also spending a lot of time on callie & jeff smoking weed? jeff doing bingo? I'm sorry I just can't care for them as much as the show wants me to after three seasons of short boring sequences trying — they are more like dead weight you are just waiting for shauna to fuck up with instead of believing in the whole "ooo wilderness baby"/"you are not like your mother" shit (yes I am still mad over how lottie was treated). they are also not necessarily needed to be a pause moment within the dramatics of the show to begin with too (imo).

MY DRAMA NERDS!!! Ren is the guy on the football team who got the lead in the play because he’s a big strong man, except everyone then found out that he’s actually really into theater and knows a lot about it. Scott got the other lead, and they ended up kissing about it. Everyone went “Oh, it’s just a showmance” and then a month passes. And then another month passes. And then the school year is over and they’re still in the honeymoon phase. And then it actually makes a lot of sense. Of course Scott would be into a football player who’s genuinely into theater and is actually a really sweet, humble, and hard working dude. Of course Ren would be into the confident and popular pretty boy who’s actually really caring and clever and knows what is and isn’t worth his time.

Also, can we talk about Simple Life? “You’re a red name.” “I am.” “You could kill people.” “I could kill you.” “But you wouldn’t want to do that.” “I don’t.” Okay. Homosexuals. Ren might not be the first person many of us would think of when it comes to Trafficblr violence, but he is Red Winter. He is the Red King. He is a loyal knight of the Fairy Fort who craves blood. Ren doesn’t usually like to fight head on, but Scott showing 0 concern or defensiveness whatsoever threw him off so hard that Ren went from wolf to puppy dog so quickly. which. might be Scott’s special talent, honestly.

(On a side note: I wanted to be sure that I got Ren’s channel name right, cause his username is “Renthedog”, so I looked him up, but the youtube search bar recommended “rendog face reveal”. I got curious and clicked it, and the first video that came up was a clip of Scott saying “he knows I’m gay, right?” in TommyInnit’s collab with Grian and Mumbo. I don’t know why. Could be a sign.) This is the only mention of the temperature of Scott’s hands. Contrary to all Smajor headcanons based on his ESMP S1, Scott has “really warm hands” at least in Wild Life.

Ren plays guitar and sings, and Scott also likes to sing. Their life would be so very full of music. Scott sings to himself in the morning while blearily making breakfast for the both of them, and Ren comes up behind him and wraps his arms around Scott’s waist. It’s too early for him, and Scott’s voice is putting him back to sleep. When Ren is tuning his guitar, Scott drops everything to listen in. Scott sings when he’s deep-cleaning the house, and Ren stands in the doorway and melts. The two of them take turns with the aux in the car, and they make playlists for each other and build playlists together. They sing each other lullabies before bed and hum old melodies while the other is brushing their teeth. Scott whisper-sings into Ren’s hair, as they fall asleep at night.

Majorbeans, okay, look. I’m not a fan of toxic relationships. I understand the appeal, but I am here for escapism where everything is good and okay. I like vanilla, and many of y’all like mint chocolate chip, basically. In other words, I’m not gonna talk about the toxic depictions of Majorbeans, because I know that I will be out of my element. It’s simply not territory that I am well versed in. However, I do particularly love Majorbeans from the angle of friends to lovers. I love the idea of Scott letting Joel get away with being more of a menace than anyone else because he trusts Joel to know where the line is and to apologize properly if he accidentally crosses it, and I so dearly love the idea of Joel knowing Scott better than anyone ever has.

When I think of Majorbeans, I think of old friends whose relationship isn’t really changed much by the labels “couple” or “boyfriends”. It was just the natural progression of their friendship. They’re still having stupid pillow fights and poking fun at each other when the other is bad at a video game. They’re still bickering about the same petty argument they had twelve years ago. They’re still competitive when pit against one another. They don’t really expect more from one another than they did before they started dating. Scott and Joel may not be the kind of couple who goes everywhere together, but they do get excited about getting to go home to one another. When they get married, it’s very literal when they say “I’m marrying my best friend”. I mean, that’s the person who gets them the best, who never judges, who knows when to be playful and when to be serious, who knows when to address an issue and when to nod and agree. That’s the person who they trust the most to be honest with them when it really matters.

To expand more on my thoughts about Scott and Joel not being the type of couple to spend every second of every day together, I’m not saying that they would get sick of each other. They’re just both generally confident enough to be fine on their own, and they’re both very competent people. I don’t think that they would worry too much about the other under typical circumstances. They’re just not super co-dependent on each other. They both value their relationship, but they naturally don’t feel a need to lean on it for validation or security. They can find what they need in themselves and their communities. Being around each other is just something they mutually treasure.

Joel and Scott are both people who like to play up their confidence, but I think that they’d be comfortable enough to be more vulnerable when it’s just the two of them. I think Scott wouldn’t bother to upkeep his appearance quite as much, though Joel still rolls his eyes and scoffs and blushes at how effortlessly and annoyingly pretty he finds Scott to be with bedhead in his laundry day clothes without make up. In turn, Joel is more earnest and forward about his intentions in his day-to-day activities when he’s talking with just Scott. Communicating properly with Scott just feels more natural in the moment, even if it makes Joel complain to Grian and Jimmy about how “grossly domestic” Scott makes him. He knows that, when making plans for the day, Scott appreciates his earnestness moreso than a bit Joel’s done a thousand times and will continue until he’s six feet under, and the bit is not so important to Joel that he would intentionally inconvenience Scott over it.

Finally, in Simple Life, Joel gave Scott a bouquet of dandelions. This is symbolic for a number of reasons. Firstly, dandelions are typically used to symbolize resilience, something that I believe both Joel and Scott to have in spades. It feels like an act of respect, for Joel to give Scott so many dandelions like that. Additionally, the way that Joel handed the dandelions off to Scott felt symbolic to me. He was just clearing his inventory to make room for an item Scott was giving him, but he also didn’t frame the action like he was just throwing his trash at Scott. It was a very practical action, something that just makes a lot of sense for their dynamic, particularly in Simple Life. Lastly, dandelions are a symbol of hope and childhood innocence. I didn’t grow up in a place with any dandelions, but, as a child, I always imagined what it might feel like to make a wish on one. To me, Joel giving Scott a bouquet of dandelions, in my little headcanon lore, was a way of saying “I wish you well, old friend”. I love that for them.

An Assortment of Thoughts about Daredevil Born Again episode 9

Putting my (mostly positive) thoughts here because I wanted to talk about the episode and figure this is marginally better than just bouncing them around in my head.

First of all, to all my fellow whump lovers, we've finally been given a Major Whump Event, and I am quite pleased.

A couple things of note, that I can't stop thinking about:

Matt lying in a hospital bed calling out Karen's name in his drug induced state continues to live rent free in my head, almost twenty-four hours later. It's so cliché, but I'm so here for it this time.

Heather's reaction in the hospital was so interesting to me. Initially I only read it as her being hurt over Matt calling out for Karen, and then annoyed that he didn't want to rest. Which of course is Classic Matt -- a bullet hole in his body? No time for rest, he has work to do. But upon re-watch, the way she steps away from him, body stiff… and the way she points out that the Fisks were the ones being shot at… as though that makes them innocent of any potential wrongdoings... she's annoyed that Matt is trying to villainize the Fisks. Even before she joins the mayor's team, she's firmly on their side. She either somehow doesn't know about Fisk's criminal history, or she's so anti-vigilante that she doesn't care. Almost like her fascination about vigilantes was never about trying to understand them, but rather trying to justify the point of view she already had on them. And by the end, Matt has Fisk in his pocket, further illustrating the growing wedge between Heather and Matt regarding what they believe in and why they can't work as a couple.

Vanessa's cough. That had to be intentional, right? Early in the season, I had a theory that part of the reason she was distant from Fisk at the beginning of the season is because while he was away, she was diagnosed with something, and now that he's back, she doesn't know how to reconcile the two. Of course, the only reason I was thinking this was because I'm still convinced that Foggy is alive and in witness protection thanks to Vanessa, and if the show follows the comics, Vanessa being sick is a part of that. I had forgotten about that theory until that suspicious cough… the one in which Wilson responded with, "I know."

Now, just about everything that took place in Matt's apartment…

We were blessed with another classic "Matt Injured and Sprawled On The Sofa" moment.

The back and forth that comes so easily with the two of them. Frank doesn't bother to ask if Matt's okay, just admonishes him for not having any way to make coffee during a power outage. How he asks "did you clock that?" about the van. Matt flipping him off. I don't ship Fratt, but their love language is snark.

Also can't help thinking about how Frank met Matt at his home, not at the hospital. So did he go to the hospital first, realize he wasn't there, and then beat him back to the apartment? Or did he just already assume he'd find him there?

And then there's Frank asking Matt why he'd take a bullet for Fisk, and Matt answering with "that's a good question." I don't have anything more to say about this one yet, but I want to think about it some more.

Now, I've seen some criticism of the choreography, which yeah, I think it could have been better. (Less slow-mo, please). But I saw someone compare it to a specific fight from the OG show that took place in a large open space, rather than inside a confined and crowded space like Matt's tiny apartment. It's gonna be different. It has to be. I think the chaos was intentional and necessary. But the second Matt dropped down from the skylight, I was locked in. I felt like I was watching the OG show for much of it. The chaos… Matt trying to knock out as many people as possible before Frank just kills them, but not trying very hard to actively stop Frank because the stakes are too high in that moment. Matt fighting injured. Matt still adhering to his code, knowing that killing Cole won't change anything, just like "killing" Dex didn't change anything with Foggy. (I'm not entirely convinced Cole killed Hector though. He never actually admitted it. Unless I missed something). Matt and Frank arguing and Frank's continued casual murder "how about him, is he worth it?" * bang * as he tries to push Matt.

On that note, it did throw me at first, how much Frank was pushing Matt, especially when in season 2 of the OG, he said "just this once? you cross that line you can't come back." But…. Matt did cross that line. Sure, Dex survived, but Matt still pushed him. I don't see how Frank would see that as anything else.

Something else to think about: While Matt and Frank are arguing, Matt says he's "always a liability." In the heat of their argument, Matt says "shut up" and Frank does -- immediately. When he tells Frank to run, he does. Neither of them hesitate leaping off the balcony, at least five stories up, as Matt throws an arm around Frank and slows their fall with his grapple. I don't know about the rest of you, but all this screams to me that they've worked together more than once in the years since the original show. Frank knows that when Matt says to shut up it's because he hears something important. Frank knows that Matt is reliable with his grappling hook. Love that way of world building. The show doesn't have to explicitly tell us, we're shown it in how they interact with each other. And my goodness… the fic possibilities this produces.

Though I'm very curious if or how Cole North survived. I think he's supposed to be in season 2?

The og DD theme played when Karen pulled up in the car. Beautiful in more ways than one.

Karen… I've missed her so much. "Will you be my eyes?" "Anytime."

"Do you remember I once asked you what it was like living in the darkness? Remember what you said?" "It's not dark, it's like a thousand suns." (That last one in particular is a scene I want, maybe need, even if only in fanfiction).

I just really like the scenes we got with Karen and Matt. It really feels like they had found a good place with each other in the time between the shows, where they've found a way to be much more open and honest with each other, allowing them to really understand each other. Chaos and mercy and everything in between. Which also just might further explain why Karen left when Matt's grief closed him off to her. The way she talked about Foggy too? Like… ugh, why did they have to break up our avocados!? I know why, but yeah.

Speaking of, AVOCADOS AT LAW!!!! I don't care if it's fan service. I'm a fan. I'm being served.

I appreciate the detail of showing the stars in the sky because the blackout means no light pollution, even if it probably wouldn't look like that. And I can't tell you how much I love the moment where Matt sat listening to the chaos of the city while he was at Red Hook.

I miss Brett, but I don't think the man's mental health could take this. It's a good thing he most likely retired to Florida with his mom.

And at the end, we have The Fisks being comically evil and I'm here for it. They aren't afraid of anything. They're leaning fully into themselves.

Admittedly, I'm disappointed that the end credits scene wasn't a Foggy reveal, in the same vein as the stinger at the end of that one Brubaker comic. (Imagine Foggy reading a headline about Matt Murdock taking a bullet for Fisk, then going missing, and wondering what he's up to, while being told he has to get away from the windows because he has to stay out of sight?) But I'm also somehow not surprised. If he's alive, (which I still 100% believe he is… I think Vanessa intended to kill him, but he was revived in the ambulance and lived, so she tucked him away. Especially after re-watching the last episode and noticed that she was watching Matt when he arrived, and then she told Matt "you need to relax" as he accused her of putting the hit out on Foggy, and of course… the cough) then I wouldn't be surprised if they drag out the reveal until later. But I was half expecting, the way they kept showing Frank look to the side, that they'd pan out and show Foggy in another cage. Glad he wasn't though. That'd be some shitty witness protection. (But I mean, I guess, they are storing rich people in a dungeon.)

But what we did get was Frank's escape. My first thought was: Frank sitting in that cage like "I've been through worse." And sure enough, that cage couldn't hold him. I so love the way he just managed to use his personality to get himself halfway there. All of this Frank stuff has me really looking forward to the Punisher special that we're getting.

A couple more things of note:

I'm so curious what they're going to do with Dex. Not just because we know he'll be in season 2, but because he looked so sad at the end. (And the beginning of the episode). He's been so lost, and now that he's out, he's still lost. And I think Matt saving Fisk really messed with him.

And are we to assume that Josie knows now that Matt is Daredevil? Not that I think everyone in the bar knows, but they did make a point of Josie noticing Matt leave without using his cane. And also those season 2 leaks of DD interacting with Josie may mean something.

And they showed a shot of Kirsten holding onto Foggy's paperwork at the end… I'm guessing she's going to take the reigns on that while Matt and Karen are in hiding, but I can't help but wonder if she knows something more.

Hopefully there's some others out there as excited as I am with what we got and what's to come. It's a weird feeling watching this show in real time when I watched the original years after it ended and the fandom was existing basically on life support. Now there's other people actively posting about it, making gifs. Much of it buried under hate and disdain.

It's not the original show. It was never going to be the original show. And I feel like I keep coming across others who are holding that against DDBA. Does it have its flaws? Yes. Especially when compared directly to the original show. I would have liked less licensed music, slower scenes, and less instances of two scenes cutting back and forth between each other, four more episodes, better fight choreography, I think Muse was underutilized, and I wish we got more out of the side characters like Kirsten, Cherry, and Heather.

But I can't stress how much good we got in this show. More than I'm willing to list because I think the majority of the show is good. Bendis and Waid are wildly different from each other, and I love them both. DD and DDBA are different, and I feel the same. There's an excellent story being told here. A story that takes place seven years after the original, where things are naturally going to have changed from where we left off.

I don't know, I know not everyone has to like it. That's fair. But I guess I'm just tired of being made to feel like I'm dumb or wrong for enjoying or at all liking DDBA. But personally, the finale felt like the closest we've gotten to the original show. And if the last two episodes are any indication, I think the next season is going to be even better. Better than the worst episodes of DDBA season 1, and better even than the best episodes of DDBA season 1.

i think the thing that’s particularly pissing me off about pretty much everything since season 6 is that the drama is so focused on suffering, getting out of that suffering, and then suffering a different way. there’s never any drama that isn’t about suffering. and there’s never really any highs to drop down from.

i can’t recall a moment of unbridled happiness from any of the characters in the last two seasons. and now without bobby, there is not even a possibility of that.

give me well-written drama that doesn’t end in suffering pls and thx. give me something that makes a character THINK over an entire episode. give me a victim who reminds the characters why they do what they do. give me ethical dilemmas. give me LAFD conflict. give me new characters to love that actually enhance another character’s story (that isn’t a love interest for the love of god). give me jealousy in friendships at work. give me better crises of faith. give me parenting woes and sibling rivalries. give me mental health healing.

and give us a BREAK. we need bottle episodes of ridiculous calls. trap the 118 in the station for no reason other than to shenanigan. have them respond to the same cat stuck in 17 different trees. have double dates with madney and henren where they get into hijinx. give buddie meaningful plots but also hilarity of the honeymoon stage. have an episode all about the KIDS. give us b-shifts reaction to the crazy 118 stunts.

and hold more space for these things to happen??? (looking at you random adorable henren/madney scene at the beginning of 8x14 that was immediately overshadowed with horrible suffering.)

there’s so much time to put out good tv and it feels wasted week to week with half assed scripted ‘drama’ that almost forces leave the audience to come back for resolution only to leave us unsatisfied.

idk maybe it’s just the grief of tonight’s episode but it’s frustrating to love a show so much and see it’s potential in some scenes just to be let down in the end 🤷🏻‍♀️

a/n: forgive me for the late late late response to this old request. i kept it cause i knew the joel inspo would eventually hit me again one day and well the time has come. one episode into s2 and i'm already back in the pit for this man. i chose two out of the four you sent and i think it's become quite a beautiful angsty story. this is with a joel that takes place pre season one but not by much. i hope you enjoy darling!

summary: trapped in a house barely held together at the seams you and joel find yourselves thinking about the past, the future, and what led to this point in time.

The world was silent.

Nature's song once existed in a bountiful harmony—filling the once warm spring air with echoes of a winter come and gone. You could remember the days where flowers bloomed without a care in the world and animals began to wander out of their safe environments. Deer were a common sighting in your hometown; more than humanity could possibly think up.

Now everything resembled a bleak afterthought. Barren of humans, empty of what once thrived in places as small as this.

You supposed it was only time that nature grew weary of the toxic tendencies of humanity. Where she offered life, they handed over decay. An endless cycle of take that wound up eating itself on the final page.

Humanity was the illness spread upon this earth. A threat to the existence of peace. Nature merely found a cure.

"This is all I could find," he mumbled, handing you an open can of cold beans.

You grimaced, but knew that finding anything better might leave the both of you searching for hours more. If that happened then starvation would be the only real winner in this all out war. And you weren't about to go down swinging against something that lethal. So you took the can with a tight lipped smile, shoveling a mouthful into you in the hopes it might turn into something tastier.

"How long until we're out of here," you muttered around the food.

Joel grinned—eyes dull and darkened by fatigue. "Day or two. Till the storm lets up some."

Rain pounded against the brittle roof of this old fucking house. You were almost certain it would give in eventually—collapse right over your bodies. Maybe it should have. Maybe you and Joel would be better off if the house were the one to decide your fates—nature of course playing her part.

At least that way you wouldn't have to worry about turning into one of them.

Even in the safety of this one story home you could hear the screech of something inhuman; the cure to nature's ailment named humanity. They were agitated by the storm. Angry they couldn't find people as easy as before, and they made themselves known.

You began to wonder if you would ever get used to their existence. That one day might pass where you finally came to a place of acceptance. Yet the thought alone was harder to swallow than the shitty food you currently fought to keep down.

More often than not you found yourself wondering if they felt pain the way you or Joel did—your mind playing tricks of guilt and empathy for creatures too far gone from the touch of humanity. Did they understand the concept of loneliness? Trapped within their own minds as the fungus wreaked havoc on their bodies. Or were they soulless? Lifeless.

There were days you pondered the same about yourself—too afraid to breach that locked door in your mind. The one that held whispers of darkness far greater than you could handle. Nightmares you did your best to put out, raging against a cracked and broken amount of hope.

"Do you ever think about what they feel?" The leak in the center of the house splattered muddy water along your hand. A cold chill traveled up nerves you believed were already shot years prior.

Joel's answer was unromantic—monotone. "They're dead."

"But are they really?"

He cleared his throat, setting the can down on the floor beside his gun. "If they aren't. They probably wish they were."

"To be locked in your own body and not have the ability to control it." Your teeth dug into your lip, biting down hard enough to split the skin. "I'd never wish that on anyone."

“I think we’re past wishin’ for things.”

He had a point. As much as you didn’t like what it meant, you understood the callous sentiment born from years of anger. This was the way of things now. A reality perfumed with the scent of rotting flesh and marred by vines of cordyceps that ravaged whatever breathed and spoke. Humanity was buried in a shallow grave. Cities leveled, homes left behind like old photographs someone might one day happen upon.

In the months of traveling with Joel you came to understand what exactly the world lost. You used to be a cynic, entirely submersed in the belief that humans were the first step in destruction—a generation that held nothing but contempt for all that came before. Until the world’s slate was wiped clean. And love, empathy, hope disappeared from the very map of a world you could no longer recognize.

“My friend used to host a barbecue every summer,” you said, watching the rain through the shattered window.

“That right?”

Nodding, you forced yourself to swallow another mouthful of beans. “They couldn’t cook for shit. Barely even liked their apartment being used for parties, but they were the only one that managed to get their own place.” You could practically smell the charred burgers, cold beers and haphazardly made margaritas melting in the east coast heat. “We were at the very last one of the year when the outbreak happened.”

Joel’s spine went rigid, silence swallowing even the pattering echo of rainfall. The chaos and horror isn’t what you remembered the most of that night. No, you pushed those memories down years ago—fearful that they might succeed in driving you mad. You recalled the laughter. The soft strum of a friend’s guitar and rasp of his voice as he sang beneath whatever stars you could catch glimpses of. You could picture their bodies lounging on chairs, lips twisted into smiles that burned you from the inside.

They were happy before it happened. Lost in the bliss of a found family.

“You deserve better than what you’ve got,” he muttered, discarding his can to the side.

His words jarred you, stomach twisting as he mourned your life despite never knowing your friends. But that was the thing about Joel Miller. He had a family too. He once had friends, a life he’d return to in an instant if given the chance. Neither of you would choose the other if you met any other way; too immersed in what you had to wonder what could have been.

But you wanted him in this life. You gave up surviving alone before he came into your life—intent on greeting death with open arms and hearing that laughter one final time.

“Joel.” Nudging him with your foot you finally caught a glimpse at those brown bloodshot eyes you’d grown to admire. They were glossed over with the exhaustion of going days without sleep, each of you fighting to find a space you could rest for some time. Yet their beauty never failed to leave you breathless. “You are exactly what I deserve in this life. You saved me.”

“You saved yourself darlin’.”

“No I didn’t.” He sighed, watching the rain splatter along mud coated wood floors. “I just got lucky at the right fuckin’ time.”

“Can you look at me, please?”

Reluctantly he found your gaze, fingers curled into a fist atop his thigh. “We don’t get much happiness in this world. Probably won’t ever get it again. But I’m happy I found you Joel. Out of all the ways life could have gone in this hell, finding you has been the best outcome.”

“We might not even make it to Boston,” he muttered despite the way his lips quirked. “What then?”

“Then I’d say it’s a pretty good way to go. Dying with someone I love.”

Disbelief colored his face, hand flat and loose against denim that had seen better days. “Yeah.” He exhaled long and slow—satisfaction spilling into the air. Neither of you wanted to be the first to say it, words meant for final moments and days where humanity lingered in the air, but you couldn’t take it back now. “A hell of a way to die.”

You smiled, settling against the wall. “A good way to die.”

DD:BA Episode 9 OK... I do have more thoughts. First of all, the good things: The scene in the hospital! Call me vindictive, but I dislike Heather so much (and love Karen) that I stood up and cheered when Matt uttered Karen's name first and then proceeded to dismiss Heather because Heather just Didn't Get It. That smirk when Matt walked into his apartment and realised that Frank was there (and, of course it was Karen who called Frank! That was bleeding obvious!) The banter beforehand, the sarcasm, the flipped bird - that was everything that we all ever wanted from Matt and Frank working together. The brutality of the fight. AND the fact that Matt did not even try to interfere with Frank once Frank started killing really showed that Matt himself has lost a lot of his idealism once he pushed Bullseye off the roof. Yes, he still objects to killing a man who is no longer a threat, but not those who have guns and bullet-proof vests and a Kingpin's licence to kill. Yet Matt still has a line. And Frank pushes him towards that line... but not really. As in S2, Frank does not want Matt to become a killer. Frank is the killer. Frank is happy to kill for Matt when Matt can't. Frank is happy to be the asshole. Oh... and all those cops are dead, whether Matt wanted them dead or not. They are crispy-fried. Unfortunately, so are Matt's vinyls :( "SHOTGUN!!" Of course Matt wants to sit right next to Karen while she drives the getaway vehicle.

Frank... just wanting to spend time with Matt and Karen after a successful mission. Just a piece of human warmth in his armoury. Matt understood it (though, what's with the oat milk, Matt? Age catching up to you? You lactose intolerant now?). But Karen... I think she understood it too, but her heart and concern are for Matt. And then there is Frank's puppy face when looking at Karen. I think that's the first time we've actually seen Frank make that sort of vulnerable face. Of course he loves her (a nod to kastle fans here; this entire episode is basically one big fan service). So many karedevil scenes! One after the other. So many conversations that we wanted them to have, but had to write ourselves in fics! There they are! In-jokes and reminiscences (Avocados at law!!) Karen asking Matt about heartbeats and what he could read from them hoping that he understood her (as opposed to feeling humiliated by his insight). And Karen telling Matt that both Foggy and her recognise the "wrath and the mercy" warring inside of him, both indelible components of who he is. Lawyer and vigilante - all loved, all cherished. All supported. And Matt listened to her! He did not go diving headlong into a suicide mission. He has a direction now, and the need to save the city. But more than that. He knows he is loved, and he knows he is fully known and accepted. He is NOT ALONE. Not anymore. And now he has the beginnings of a fighting force (and a steady supply of booze courtesy of Josie, which will be needed if Jessica and Luke join the party next season!) And now, not so great things: We finally get to see Matt in the naked-butt hospital gown and we don't get even a single glimpse of his naked butt! Also. Claire isn't in the episode, which meant that she missed the "pigs must be flying in frozen hell" sight of Matt finally getting proper medical care. So, I am doubly disappointed on her behalf too. They finally sorta explained how Fisk got out of jail after S3 and... it just does not pass the sniff test at all. Even if he somehow managed to blame all the crimes of S3 on the corrupted FBI, including the surveillance room that was built in a hotel that was owned by him, there was still the issue of all the crimes from S1, which he would've still been serving the sentence for. Fisk's overreach was too much... it was too comic-book-villain. And the best thing about Fisk was always the fact that he was terrifying because of his humanity and his behind-the-scenes manipulation. But shutting off power to the whole city to trigger disorder? Telling cops to forget about due process and go shoot suspects on sight? Declaring martial law? (WTF?? He is a mayor of a city, not a state governor! Where's the Federal Government, please? Or is Trump in charge already? In which case... yeah, figures). And keeping millionaires and other 'rebels' in cages? (i.e. alive and a burden? gotta feed em, clean em, make sure they don't chit chat and plan)... that's some post-apocalyptic warlord-level bullshit. Fisk's power has gone to his head so much, he really has lost all touch with reality and became a caricature. Frank's capture by the rogue cops... That should've been a version of THIS speech:

Not some "do you think you understand my pain?" bullshit. Come on Frank, you should've been dressing them down for the being the cowardly traitors to their oaths that they are! Did you get hit on the head too many times?? Finally, Heather is really an idiot, isn't she?!

TL:DR

Episode was full of love for Matt and Karen... but very Disney in terms of the plot development and over-the-top Fisk's villain-ness.
