Liko and Roy being able to lovingly roast Friede is fun, but I also feel like it shows that they don't blindly idolize him? They admire him for sure, but their perception of him is pretty grounded in a way. They know the person beneath, they are close to him, and they know he is not infallible (he told them about his past and his first meeting with Cap, after all). They are not admiring from a distance, but their admiration for him is rooted in reality (and he's shown them time and time again why he is worth looking up to).
I also feel like this moment shows that Liko, Roy and Dot all focus on different sides of Friede when it comes to their admiration for him, or what they try to emulate? They all know he is a professor, but out of the three, I think Dot is the one who focuses the most on this aspect. She is the one who read his thesis (which was brought up in HZ041), and she still keeps up with his research and respects his work. She even refers to him as "Professor Friede" in this episode, and she knows that his distribution map has been presented at a conference and that it has proper sources. And afterwards, she almost sets a challenge for herself, which is to find any Pokemon that aren't on Friede's map. She wants to be able to do something Friede couldn't do as a researcher, discover something he doesn't know, and find new things herself.
Meanwhile, Roy mostly focuses on the "battler" aspect of Friede. Just like how Hogator looks up to Lizardon, Roy looks up to Friede and wants to be strong and cool like him (he even imitates his Terastal pose, which speaks to how Roy pays close attention to Friede during battles and can't help but mimic him). As for Liko, I feel like she mostly focuses on how Friede is as a person and a trainer? She wrote her report in HZ035 about Friede and Cap because that's who she thinks about when she is asked about an "ideal bond" (and she had no illusions about their bond since she saw them fight among each other and be stubborn, so she got to see both the good and bad). And her report sums up what stands out to her when it comes to Friede. She talked about how she grows a little stronger when he is around, and how his presence gives courage to those around him. And that part of Friede is precisely what she wants to emulate (and she probably wants her and Nyarote to be like Friede and Cap, as trainer and Pokemon). They all see Friede as someone reliable and reassuring, but they focus on different aspects of him in their own journeys.
(And it's kind of interesting how in the antagonist side, Amethio was also exposed to these three aspects of Friede at different points and somehow influenced by them.. The "battler" aspect, because his style began to change after meeting Friede, and because he imitates him too when he uses Terastal. The "person" aspect, because he actually took into account Friede's comment about not being riled up by words in HZ025, and didn't respond to the Explorers who were making some comments towards him in their meeting in HZ027. So he tried to follow Friede's words, and stopped snapping back when he could. As for the "professor" aspect, he didn't see it as much, but I think the closest to it would be Amethio asking what move Rayquaza used in HZ045, and Friede immediately providing him with an answer. Not knowing something, and learning through someone who actually knows.)

I liked today's episode, it was a nice ep focusing on Nyarote's pokedex info and really showing how much Liko and Nyarote care for each other, even through mishaps. I love them so much ❤️
In other new, the rapper gym leader is debuting next week and Kaiden might evolve 👀

Silly Little Summaries HZ051-HZ055
The time has come yet again for more of the sillies. And what a (mostly) good batch of episodes this was, especially since a couple of them have really helped support my main theory. Anyway, onto the "reviews":
HZ051: Leafage is a cat…again + Silly Little Mushrooms
HZ052: Land Seagull becomes Flying Seagull + Rapping old ladies
Alternate Title: Man these kids really suck at taking videos
HZ053: Oh boy fun doppelganger antics, wait where are you going?
Alternate Title: Baby Hat is now a Big Hat…well that came out of nowhere
HZ054: Mr. Doctor Professor is a criminal + Mr. Big Bad reveal, for real this time
HZ055: Little battles with the Big Four

Some Dot moments I really liked in HZ051:
Dot immediately noticing something felt off about Liko and Nyarote and asking Liko about it. Liko wasn't going to bring it up herself so Dot made that first step and asked her. In chapter 3 so far, we've had Dot noticing Liko seemed nervous about her test and asking her about it (HZ047), Liko noticing Dot was pushing herself when it came to preparing her test (HZ049), and Dot asking Liko if something happened with Nyarote (HZ051). I appreciate how these moments show that it goes both ways with Liko and Dot. It's not just Liko who asks/notices things about Dot, Dot also reciprocates and pays attention to Liko's feelings (this pattern is consistent). And even if Dot wasn't sure how to help Liko and Nyarote, she tried to cheer Liko up and suggested they share info for their reports (Liko had no info, but Dot still offered hers and didn't expect anything in return). She told Liko about the flower pillar and that anyone who sees it will find happiness. Dot probably knew that this would motivate Liko and help her with Nyarote (and she wanted both of them to be happy too).
Dot feeling motivated by Roy's enthusiasm and thinking she doesn't want to fall behind on her report (she wants to stand as an equal next to her friends, and not just sit on the sidelines!).
Dot bringing up the word "dazzle" a few times, which shows that her test with Nanjamo is still fresh in her mind and that she was really impacted by these specific words and that she is using them as a motivation and inspiration going forward. And speaking of inspiration, she uses Friede's research as a basis to write her report (screenplay for this ep was made by the same person who did HZ041, which was when we got to see how Dot and Friede met and how she looked up his work online, so it's nice to see a follow up to that).

Roy is taking his studies seriously so far: in HZ051, he looked up more information about Kunugidama and got to understand the reason why it exploded so easily. The Pokedex description didn't mention anything about this Pokemon being prone to exploding (he wasn't the one who scanned Kunugidama though, Liko did), so it shows he looked beyond what the description had to offer and personally wanted to know more.
Same for Capsaiji in HZ052. The Pokedex description only mentioned that this Pokemon absorbs sunlight and later on, Roy immediately made the connection that it's strange seeing a Capsaiji around at night for this reason and deduced that it could be a rare phenomenon.

Some character notes and episode notes for HZ051, writing them down for future reference.
The ep starts with the kids reaching some place to do their reports on wild Pokemon. Dot uses Friede's distribution map as help for the reports (Liko and Roy roast Friede btw since they are not used to seeing the academic side of him), and they all decide to study and set up camp there (they're excited to show their results to everyone on the ship too). They set up their tents. Roy is the fastest (he is used to this), Dot set hers too, Liko took some time since Nyarote was playing with the rope (very cat-like reaction). Nyarote's attention turns to a Kunugidama sleeping on a tree, and Roy accidentally ran into the tree and made it fall and explode.
Liko and Roy wash their Pokemon in the river. Roy spots a Pokemon (Kaiden's evolution) and decides he'll write his report on him. He asks Liko and Dot if he can go after it and they agree. Dot tells him to be careful (which is sweet, and also cute that Roy asks them before running after that Pokemon, that way they can both know where he is). Dot decides to go back to her tent and research the local Pokemon for her report. Liko stays at the river. She lets Terapagos roam free and play around, and has to wash Mibrim again since the latter got dirty by falling down. Nyarote gets a bit annoyed and plays with her yoyo in the meantime and wants to show Liko one of her tricks, but Liko's attention is taken by Terapagos who is walking away. Liko apologizes to Nyarote but she is annoyed and jealous seeing Mibrim and Terapagos in Liko's arms, so she turns away. Liko tries to touch Nyarote, but gets pricked by her fur becoming spiky all of a sudden. Nyarote slaps Liko's hand away and runs away after realizing what she's done (it seems like she is still afraid of hurting people she loves, like in HZ040).
Back at the camp, Kanuchan and Kuwassu are playing together while Dot is looking for info for her report. She notices Nyarote is by herself and asks Liko what happened when she comes back to the camp. Liko is a bit nervous and explains that Nyarote is in a bad mood. Dot switches the topic to their reports and suggests they share info. She tells Liko about the flower pillar phenomenon and explains it's shrouded in mystery but that anyone who sees it will find happiness. Liko wants to tell Nyarote about it but notices that Terapagos is gone so she prioritizes looking for him and asks Nyarote to go with her. Dot thinks she should head out too but Kuwassu is too busy taking care of his coif and she has to stop Kanuchan from breaking their frying pan (these scenes were cute and funny).
Liko is looking for Terapagos without much success. She asks Nyarote to help her, but Nyarote ignores her. Liko is sad about it, and Nyarote also looks sad seeing Liko like that (I love that these two are just like this... Nyarote doesn't like seeing Liko hurt or sad and she is the one causing it and she knows that, but also cannot help her feeling of jealousy). Mibrim tries to cheer up Liko, so Nyarote keeps ignoring Liko. Meanwhile, Terapagos arrives at a pond and is amazed by the Pokemon there and gets blasted off by a Gourton (and laughs the whole time too, he was having fun, which was so cute). Liko arrives at the pond where Terapagos and recognizes his footprints. She decides to follow them, and hands Mibrim to Nyarote who has to carry her. Mibrim can sense Nyarote's feelings so she feels nervous, but they soon realize that Liko is missing and run after her. Liko falls off a cliff in the meantime and realize she was separated from her Pokemon.
Meanwhile, Nyarote and Mibrim find Terapagos struggling on his back in the forest. Mibrim tries to flip him over but he is too heavy for her, so she can't. Nyarote watches the whole time, but doesn't do anything. Mibrim and Terapagos call for her help and she eventually helps Terapagos. The latter walks towards a tree with more Kunugidama and Nyarote quickly freaks out and grabs him and runs away in the other direction, Mibrim following her. (The whole scene was basically Nyarote being the tired big sister of the group but still helping the baby. Mibrim also really feels like the middle sister who is trying her best to be helpful, since she is now less scared of her surroundings and takes in more responsabilities, especially towards Terapagos.)
Liko wonders how to get out of the ravine, since she can't exactly climb out. She also notices it's getting hot. All of a sudden, a lot of Nonokurage appear. Liko hides and wonders what they are doing. The Pokemon spot her, which makes her freak out and scream. Nyarote arrives to protect her (she was carrying both Mibrim and Terapagos, very cool of her) and is ready to attack the Nonokurage and is fiercely protective of Liko. Liko understands that Nyarote wants to protect her but she stops her from attacking the Nonokurage as they haven't done anything to her. She hugs her and doesn't mind being hurt by her spikes the whole time. She keeps embracing her until Nyarote calms down and her fur becomes soft again. Terapagos walks over to the Nonokurage to talk to them (Terapagos really seems to be able to get along with anyone, it's been shown a few times already so I'm curious about this). Liko decides to help the Nonokurage who just need the vines gone (and the Pokemon also help her out of the ravine). Nyarote cuts the vines with her Magical Leaf, and the Nonokurage then all wait for something to happen. A strong wind blows and they all jump into the tornado, which causes the flower pillar phenomenon. Liko and her Pokemon all look amazed at it, and Liko says she is happy she could see this with everyone, and especially Nyarote. She takes Nyarote's hand and Nyarote licks her arm where she hurt her with her spikes (very cute scene, they are precious).
At night, back at the camp, Liko explains that she saw the flower pillar. Roy is handling food in this scene btw (idk if they all prepared together, but it's good to show this, Roy is good with crafts and at cooking, good for him!). Liko explains that the flower petals turned out to be Nonokurage flaps. Dot manages to understand how the phenomenon happened (and she explains it too), and asks Liko if she took it on video or photos. Liko completely forgot (she was immersed in the moment and just enjoyed it as it came.. highlights the differences between her and Dot, since Dot often records and documents her adventures). Liko decides she'll draw an illustration for her report since she remembers the phenomenon clearly. Roy wants to see Liko's illustration when she is done (cute tbh). At the end, Liko thinks about how she was happy to learn more about Nyarote through this experience and strengthen their bond. Nyarote seems happy about it too.
Overall cute ep focusing on Liko and Pokemon emotions (which is her Thing). Liko being willing to endure pain for those she loves is something that makes me think a lot. Liko willing to accept pain by/for those she loves, VS Nyarote who is so afraid of hurting the ones she loves because she doesn't want her friends to leave her. Put these two together, and wait for the result.
Also, this ep kind of made me remember why I like smaller teams of Pokemon for characters. Having lots of Pokemon means you need to divide your attention between them, make sure to care for them all, some get left behind etc. It's a huge responsability, especially for kids. So that's why I prefer smaller teams and actually hope the trio won't have lots of Pokemon. Which I don't think will happen anyway, but I think the max I could see is another addition to their respective teams and that's it (and tbh I do not want more than that, since Pokemon with clear defined personalities and arcs who fit their trainers and dynamics with each other is better than just having a bunch of them for the sake of it..). Anyway, I think Nyarote kind of learned to understand Liko better through this ep too, since she had to run around and take care of both Mibrim and Terapagos. They both learned to understand each other better. I think jealousy will always be a part of Nyarote, but I think she understands that Liko doesn't have malicious intentions.
This ep airing also overlapped with episode 17 of Wonderful Precure (both airing the same week), which also featured a cat being protective of her human, so that was nice for me specifically (Yuki protecting Mayu, just like how Nyarote protects Liko). Yuki's lines to Mayu being "You're fine as you are. Stay your kind self, who cannot ignore those in trouble. If your kindness ever puts you in harm's way, then I'll protect you" is something I can imagine Nyarote saying to Liko if she could talk.
