Maybe in 2023 I should stick to working on my own problems and my mental health and focus on driving and learning how to adult instead of wanting a hot husband and all these toxic scenarios I come up with in my head. I get jealous of people on social media who get famous and are followed or known by idols ya’know I think sometimes everyone does but some people just do things in a way that the pieces just fall together and that’s just it.

regarding eunwoo tweets, a lot of the asian fans think this way actually. if you ever read knetz/cnetz/jnetz threads regarding issues like idols dating/marriage, this kind of thinking is really common. i wouldn’t jump to call it ‘delusional’ since they know exactly what’s going on and aren’t just mindless consumers. it’s mainly the dehumanization part that boggles my mind but at the same time western fans dehumanize idols in their own way, so neither side should be quick to judge. in the end it’s just different outlooks on what being an idol means

hi anon! yeah i don’t interact a lot with kfans since I don’t speak the language well enough (and same for cfans/jfans) but it seems clear that it’s kind of normalized to see things in a way like idols have a “contract” with their fans (and even that fans have a contract with their idols, you even have idols roleplaying to their fans that they shouldn’t look at someone else...) and it’s clearly a cultural thing when it gets so normalized, i remember the mess that happened when chen from exo announce he was getting married and was becoming a father and some people (albeit a small number) were asking for him to leave the group and literally protesting in front of sm’s building?? as if being married was against his contract (or when hyuna and dawn were fired from their agency for dating) but before anything else it’s a marketing tool that plays on people’s desire to feel a special connection and to feel like they have some kind of exclusive relationship with their idols especially lonely people and I find it disturbing and kind of creepy tbh in the eunwoo tweets the person thankfully wasn’t thinking they’d get married themselves with eunwoo or that he himself would never marry and seemed pretty aware that it was also the way idols were being marketed but same, I found it highly disturbing that they would call idols a product and separate eunwoo’s identity as an actor and as an idol and say that he shouldn’t express his feelings in public because as op was upset about talks about marriage because of their own life, that eunwoo obviously knows nothing about, they felt that as a consumer they had a right to complain (also i can’t tell where op was from and if they are asian but with how big kpop has gotten i’m sure you can find western fans thinking this way...) to me that’s just neglecting to actually respect him and recognise him fully. so it’s probably more insensitive and unhealthy than delusional and thankfully I know not all fans have an unhealthy approach to it and I guess for most it’s more like a game or just a way to be a fan (the entire fan culture is so different tbh)

tbh even if it was just a cultural point of view on what being an idol means it’s one I’m uncomfortable with (even when idols say their fans are their best friends I’m like...what?), I don’t even like the fact that they’re called idols lol (I should look into why they are called that actually..) and I really dislike the way kpop acts have to like roleplay romantic fancalls or get asked in fanmeetings to roleplay marriage proposals or romantic lines and how their agencies encourage that kind of behaviour/thinking but with how big it’s getting I don’t really see that coming to an end any time soon...as much as I love the music and the performances and the variety content, I don’t like the “idol role” itself

and yeah on the other side you have maaaany intrl fans just absolutely reducing idols to little dolls they can play with, babyfying them or always portraying them as these powerless kids even if they’re grown men or women and it’s like??? or living vicariously through them and instead reducing them to numbers and a certain amount of success and it’s exhausting...i wonder why so many people can’t look at these performers without taking away their humanity and self-determination? on one hand I like getting to know more about the artists and their process and be entertained by their funny videos but also sometimes I really feel like we’re being given wayyy too much access to them and I also wonder how they feel about it? are they disappointed if they see their fans acting this way or do they expect it? do they hate the roleplaying or find it funny lol

Ooooh! The beach maybe? !! An amusement park near the beach and then we can go for a walk on the seaside and maybe go in the water after we get tired from the noise of the park and find a nice place to eat at as well~

backdated to the night of june 27th ;;

while sohee is out at her birthday fan meeting, vanessa is already in motion. she’s made a small batch of seaweed soup from the leftover ingredients of hyuna’s batch earlier this month and tucked it away for sohee in the fridge. moving on to the next part, she’s grabbing for the present and the treats she had picked up for her gift to her roommate. she packages the hoodie she had found in pretty lilac wrapping paper– along with a couple bags of sohee’s favorite treats. there’s also a cute, homemade sort of coupon– in vanessa’s familiar writing saying ’ good for one birthday hug and smooch combo! expires never!!! ’. she’s sure to tuck it safely into a simple white and lilac birthday gift bag, and sets it on sohee’s bed for when she returns. she scribbles out a brief note to tack on that she leaves on a cute sticky note she had found while shopping.

it’s short and sweet, to the point. when vanessa lays down, eager to catch up on some shows and things she’s missed and to take a nap while the other is away. 

it was a long and fun day. she had enjoyed her time at the fanmeeting. everything went well without a hitch. she loved interacting with fans. she loved being able to engage with them in a low energy setting. by the end of it, her heart was full and the smile on her face seemed permanent. before heading home, jinah had scooped her up for a girl’s day. there was some hours of daylight left. they were able to make the most of it.

sohee had loads of gifts in her arms by the time she got back home for the night. what she wanted more than anything was to shed her clothes into something more comfortable and sleep. but as she entered her room, it seemed that her birthday wasn’t over. her eyes widen at the sight of the gift bag on her bed. she gives vanessa a look of suspicion.

she reads the note with a smile. it seemed really thoughtful. more than anything sohee loves gifts made by hand or with effort. especially if it was food. so she was really excited for the soup. the coupon for the hug and kiss combo makes her laugh but it’s the sweater that truly steals the show for her. she gasps as she pulls it out of the bag and holds it against herself. it was slightly oversized. just enough to give her infamous sweater paws. she squealed, abandoning the sweater and launching herself onto her roommate.

“that’s so sweet unnie!” she said with a smile. “i love it! i love everything! thank you so much.”
