#1 Chain x Isekai! Reader - You Play Their Games
Tumblr media
Part 1 includes Hyrule, Wind, and Time Part 1 (you are here) ✿ Part 2 ✿ Part 3
When you first met the chain, it had quickly come to everyone’s attention that you already knew them. At first, they thought perhaps you had somehow heard tales of them, passed down through the generations. But you knew things about their adventures they hadn’t told anyone. You knew the names of people and places that surely wouldn’t have survived the thousands of years the stories would have taken to reach you.
You tried your best to explain to them how you knew what you did. Thankfully, you had your Switch, which made explaining what a video game was to them a bit easier.
Tumblr media
Hyrule
He wasn’t sure what to think. On one hand, it was upsetting. His adventures were being used to entertain people? His Hyrule was a nightmare to live in, with monsters everywhere. When he had defeated Ganon, it had been a huge deal. To find out it was a game for children was a bit insulting if he was being honest.
On the other hand, his… “games” seemed to be your favorite? You had explained to him that his adventures were the first games ever created, and without them, the rest of the franchise wouldn’t exist. He couldn’t help but feel a bit of pride in this fact. He had grown up hearing of the Hero of Legend, and even now, traveling with the group, with Legend, it was impossible not to feel like he had to live up to that legacy. But to hear that without him, the others wouldn’t exist? (At least in your universe their stories would never have been created.) It was like the roles had been reversed. The Hero of Legend. The Hero of Time. All of them had to live up to the legacy that was… Hyrule.
He felt a bit guilty. A bit fascinated. A bit resentful. A bit proud. He wasn’t sure what to think. He decided to watch you play his game. Just for a bit, he told himself. Just to see what had started it all.
✧˖°˖☆˖°˖✧
“Okay, so, I normally use a guide to help me find the dungeons,” you explained to Hyrule as you booted up a new save file. He was sitting next to you, watching the screen intently. “I’m not sure how far I’ll get without the internet, especially when I have to get through the maze later on.”
Hyrule had no idea what you were talking about. He decided to ignore whatever you just said and instead focus on the game in your hands.
“Is that supposed to be me?” he pointed at the screen, to the mass of pixels in the center vaguely resembling a person wearing a green dress and hat.
“Yeah, sorry. Your games’ graphics aren’t great,” you moved the joystick, making the game Link walk around in a circle. “But that’s just because they’re older. I think my dad was a teenager when this was made.”
There was a moment of silence before you spoke again.
“I miss him.”
Hyrule nodded in understanding. It couldn’t be easy, traveling with the group in a world so unlike your own. How were they going to get you home? Before he could try to comfort you, you turned your attention back to the game, moving the character into a small doorway as you talked.
“He’s the one that first got me into the games. He and I used to play this game on the old NES he had. We even tried to make a map of the different screens so that we would stop getting lost.”
Hyrule closed his eyes, leaning his head against your shoulder as you continued to ramble on about the game. It didn’t sit right with him that his adventure was reduced to entertainment. But you seemed so happy. Surely, it couldn’t be that bad.
Tumblr media
Wind
(Pretend his games are on the Switch lol)
He's the least bothered by this. Like, sure, it's a bit weird that his adventures are games, but it's also so cool! It's like you went on his adventure, too! Even though you’ve never met his friends in real life, you seem to show such genuine care about them when playing his game.
He WILL demand to see every Legend of Zelda game you have, not just his own. It lets him experience the rest of the chain's adventures, which he really enjoys. (He likes watching you play Ocarina of Time the most. You have a hunch it has something to do with Wind growing up hearing stories about Time, then being expected to carry on that legacy. Or maybe he just likes to watch you fail at the Water Temple).
Despite his fascination with the others’ games, Wind is also REALLY proud that you like his the most. He had fun on his adventures with Tetra, and he’s glad he gets to share that with you. He’s also glad he can shove it in the others faces that he’s the favorite.
✧˖°˖☆˖°˖✧
You giggled as the cutscene played on the screen. Wind, who was sitting next to you, gave you an inquisitive look. He was watching the cutscene too, and didn’t see what was so funny. Upon seeing his face, you laughed even more.
“Sorry, sorry,” you apologized through giggles, “your facial expressions get me every time.” You gestured to the screen. The game Wind had been placed in a barrel, about to be launched from the pirate boat. His expression changed from wide-eyed terror to a determined glare. “It looks like you went through the five stages of grief in three seconds.”
“I HAD TO ADAPT TO SURVIVE.” Wind puffed out his chest. If he wasn’t a twig-thin pre-teen, it may have made him look manlier.
“I’m sure being yeeted off a boat in a barrel was quite the ordeal. Still doesn’t make your faces any less amusing.” You smiled, playfully poking his cheek. He stuck out his tongue at you.
“I’m sure it’s just the art style of the game.” He rolled his eyes. Surely, his facial expressions couldn’t be that amusing. “Tetra doesn’t look that funny in real life. Neither does Aryll. Everyone on your ‘Switch’ has weird little feet that don’t go with the rest of their body. I wouldn’t trust it to copy my face.”
“Ah, my mistake,” you ruffled his hair. “Surely, no screen can properly capture this adorable visage.”
“HEy!”
“But no, seriously.” you smiled and turned your attention back to the screen, “your funny faces used to crack me up all the time as a kid! Me and my brother tried to copy them, but we could never get them quite right.”
“So, am I your brother’s favorite Link, too?” Wind smirked.
“Hey! I never said you were my favorite. I said your games were my favorite!” You playfully hit his shoulder. “I can’t just choose my favorite of you guys! That wouldn’t be fair.”
“Oh!” Wind cried out and grabbed his chest, “My pride!” He fell over dramatically, as if dying from the grievous injury to his ego. You laughed at the display.
“See, this is what I mean. I don't get this kind of entertainment from the others! Legend’s too grouchy and the captain's worried about messing up his hair.” Wind bolted upright at your comment. Cupping his hands over his mouth in a makeshift megaphone, he yelled across the campsite.
“HEAR THAT LEGEND? Y/N LIKES ME BETTER THAN YOU!”
“SHUT UP! I STILL HAVE MORE GAMES THAN YOU!”
Tumblr media
Time
Time is silent the entire time you explain his games. Only two of his adventures seem to have made it to your world. He’s not sure if he should be horrified that his time in Termina is the last story you had of him, or grateful you didn’t see the aftermath of that adventure. (You don’t seem to know much about the Fierce Deity mask besides it “makes boss fights easier”.)
It takes him a while to trust you. He isn't sure how you view the chain now, and he can't risk you thinking they're still a game. There are real stakes. He tries to put you in the back of the group or somewhere you can't possibly mess anything up. Once you prove to him that you genuinely care about the group, though, he relaxes quite a bit. (That's a story for another time tho).
He doesn’t get too worked up over the fact you viewed his adventures as games. He can see how much you care for the chain when interacting with them, so it’s not like you still view them as playthings. From talking to his successors, he’s also grown used to being reduced to a story. He knows that fighting Ganondorf was terrifying, especially considering he was so young when he had to do it. However, to Wind, Twilight, and the others that came after? He was the Hero of Time. The Possessor of the Triforce of Courage. A legendary hero. Not a scared kid.
He watches you play occasionally, usually just a quick glance at the screen when he walks past wherever you were sitting. Wind seemed particularly interested in your device, so you had been showing him almost every game you had. Time mostly seems detached from the events depicted. Maybe it’s how long has passed between his childhood time traveling shenanigans and his present. More likely, he had simply lived through those adventures so many times himself that he couldn’t bring himself to get worked up about watching them again. You couldn’t quite tell.
✧˖°˖☆˖°˖✧
“Ugh! I hate this stupid dungeon!” you groaned, pressing your face closer to the screen of your Switch. Wind was sprawled out next to you, head resting in your lap as he napped. Clearly, you had been at this for a while. Your frustration had also grabbed Time’s attention, and he made his way over to you.
“Is that the Water Temple?” he asked, sitting down on the other side of you. “I remember that place being a bit tedious to get through.”
“Yeah. I’ve been here for almost an hour. I can never get these platforms in the right order.” You furrowed your eyebrows, trying yet again to complete the stupid puzzle. Time watched you move his teen self around the level, pushing down his discomfort. He was slightly amused at how frustrated you were getting. (He’s still a little brat at heart.)
Finally, he decided to be helpful.
“Here,” he held out his hand, and you gave him the Switch. “It’s really obvious once you see the solution.” Time moved the joysticks gently, guiding his game counterpart around the level. He moved the platforms, solving the puzzle in only a few seconds.
“Oh come on!” You stuck out your tongue at the game, and Time couldn’t help but chuckle. He handed the game back to you, and you continued to play, passing through the last few levels before the final boss fight. Time continued to watch, occasionally offering commentary on the puzzles, although it was more to make fun of you than to help you.
Honestly, both of you lost track of time, and before you realized, the final battle was over. Ganondorf was defeated. As the credits rolled, Time was unusually quiet, and for a moment you thought he had fallen asleep. You glanced over, only to find his eyes glued to the screen.
“May I?” He whispered, holding out both of his hands. You placed the Switch in his hands, and he gingerly held the device as the final cutscene played. On the screen, Navi flew up and away. Time turned the device over and placed it on the ground when the words “Presented by Nintendo” appeared.
“Time, I’m sorry,” you began, gingerly touching his shoulder. He looked lost in thought.
“Don’t be. I think I needed to see that.” He smiled sadly. “I didn’t really understand it back then. I thought she had just flown away. I didn’t really get to… mourn.”
You wrapped your arms around him, and Time gently accepted the hug. Once he was sure you weren’t going anywhere, Link tightened his arms around you.

For ‘More than One’ maybe you could detail the relationships between each Link and their y/n or how they met!
Hi Anon!
I'd love to explain and details each Link and Y/n for ya!
I'm addressing each of them as ' Link ' instead of their LU names and that goes for the same as the Y/n's. Also oopies on Times one but it was more of Y/n lore than a detail of their relationship.
Content under cut
Time/OOT Link.
I think this was predictable but you and Link (For majority of the Links and Y/n's) started off as childhood best friends. They met each other while Y/n and Malon were near the fountain at castle town while waiting for Talon.
I think the trope suited for them would be childhood sweethearts/you fell first and he fell harder.
You two met at castle town when you were both young, When Link was going to meet with Zelda for the first time.
I like to think a lot about each of the Links and Y/n's relationships because I want them all to have very different stories to each other.
ALSO! YES YOU TWO ARE MARRIED AND HAVE...Want part two? Hit that follow button (JK, But I won't go into too much detail, yet.)
Oh before I forget, I think it's a relevant fact to mention that Y/n was adopted by Talon so Malon and Y/n are half sisters?
I like dramatic backgrounds and relationships so, You know how on ice age, the first movie where they look after that baby? Yeah so.
Y/n's mother was running away with her in her arms, she was supposidly meant to go to the Deku tree to be looked after but Y/n's mother was too tired as she drifted down the Zora's river.
Talon was delivering as per usual when he saw a woman floating down the stream so he quickly dropped everything and hurried over to the edge and grab onto her arm. Y/n's mother couldn't open her eyes. Too tired to do so, she only pushed the baby into Talons arms which he was alarmed but once he saw your h/c tufts of hair and such a peaceful resting face he couldn't help but have the need to protect you...However he knew better than to take you but when he looked back. Your mother wasn't there.
"I think daddy fell asleep again." Malon comments as the two of you sat on the edge of the fountain in the middle of town. "Definitely" You agreed, "He always does this, I would march up to the castle and find him myself if it weren't for those annoying knights." "Yeah, if only there was someone that could sneak past them all and get Talon"
Just saying that, you watch as a kid in green, around your age ran past...and tripped over a tile. The fairy flew around him 'Hurry Link! We need to get to the castle quickly!' The fairy called out, the boy looked around to make sure no one had seen that but when he looked back he was met with yours and Malons eyes glued on him. It was clear he grew flustered so he quickly stood up and ran off in the direction to the castle.
"Maybe he can!" Malon points at the boy running, "Yeah, Let's catch up to him!"
Warrior/HW Link.
Link and Y/n in this era are a fun duo in my mind, I did think about a soft reader with this Link because I thought it would be funny that a womanizer would fall in love with someone soft hearted and made him want to forget every woman he's ever been with. A quote that would've fit this would be 'I can fix him'
The mischaracterisation for Link hurts me, I don't know what I was thinking honestly.
ANYWAYS! I liked the idea of someone bossing Link around, Do I feel bad? No.
Also I think Link doesn't like sorceresses that much (Because of Cia) so I made Y/n into a witch. Yes sorceresses and Witches are practically the same.
Y/n in this era is self centered, confident, bold—Someone that acts all high and mighty really.
"Move out of my way, Rookie."
"You expect respect? Hah! You have to earn it, especially from me."
"You have to improve your sword skill before I can treat you as an equal. Trust me, You're far from achieving so."
She made him want to pull all his hair out.
Their relationship is a slowburn / Enemies to lovers.
Don't worry, they get better and maybe I'll do a full explanation on their story if anyones interested to also explain on why Warriors was so in shock when he had found her again (Hinting to my last chapter of more of us series)
Fun fact! This Y/n wore high heeled boots during the war…refused to wear any other type of shoes. Still wears them to this day.
"Link, I would like to introduce you to your new ally and commander" Impa says calmly as she led him through the hallways of the castle, "She's a witch but trust me, she's a brave and responsible type" Impa informed.
"That's good to know" Link sighs in relief, he's over dealing with witches and sorceresses but if this witch is just as Impa describes, He can handle it. Impa opens the door to the courtyard to be met with a woman around his age standing in the middle of the field, The woman was sharp and looked back to see the pair.
"Y/n, meet Link. He's the chosen hero of Hyrule." With this, Link bowed his head towards the woman who had only scoffed, "So he's a rookie with a title? I don't get what makes him so special from the rest." Link growled and took a step forward but Impa held him back, "No fighting. You'll look after him during the times on the battlefield whether it be for aiding him or healing." "Tch, I don't remember agreeing to those rules-" "Y/n." "Fine."
Impa looked over Link, "Good luck, she's a hard one to impress. She'll keep you on your toes" Link only sighed. "Lucky me."
Twilight/TP Link
I'm still deciding on a good plot for the two because as you all probably guessed, the two are the ones that can transform.
Puppy love is how I would describe them.
Started off as childhood best friends or sweethearts. To the village it was as if you two were already destined to be. You two were attached to the waist even!
I was thinking that a week from Link officially starting his journey, Y/n had gone missing so he went out and originally was going to try and find her but he got caught up in other stuff.
However, there was a dragon following him during his journey so in his eyes he had two companions being the dragon and Midna.
I Think you all know who the dragon is at this point.
Not much to describe them about, a sappy couple? Like those overly cringey lover types? lol.
I also like to think that Y/n Is more of a city gal despite being brought up in the country sideeee.
Link obviously hitting you up with his southern accent trying to make you fall to his feet but as soon as you start talking like a proper city gal he's on his knees- Scratch that, turned into Wolfie.
Post game Y/n, I like to think she started a daycare or a school for the kids because they don't learn much intelligently but are more hands on. I like to head canon that this Y/n is one of the smartest in the village BUT! She isn't the smartest Y/n.
Meeting this Link was love at first sight...At the age of 6.
One fine day in Ordon Village you were helping about with a few little task such as carrying light things from one place to another when you heard a familiar voice call out.
“Y/n! Meet the new boy in the village! Link” Ilia introduced you to the boy around your age, he smiled sheepishly and you just analysed his every detail.
“Hi Link, It’s nice to meet you” you say softly as you smile back at him, he tilts his head “Hi…Uh, You’re very pretty.” Ilia’s eyes widened as she heard the bold words of the boy behind her, you were just as equally shocked but you only giggled.
“Thank you, Link” you twirl a strand of hair with your index finger. You almost dropped what you were carrying and you were quick to wrap your hand back around the item.
“Well, I've got to drop this off. I’ll see you soon?” You say with a soft smile before turning away and walking off. Link had a stupid grin plastered on his face which earned a sigh from Ilia.
Wild/BOTW Link
The chaotic duo.
Friends to lovers (Strangers to friends to lovers in TOTK-)
Now, these two give the group the biggest headache it's unbelievable.
It's not even Link sometimes!
Y/n in this universe is just overly chaotic and Link is there for it because in some sense he honestly can't talk, on some days he's just as bad.
First encounter? Woke up half naked to one another and Y/n continued with some awkward conversation after that so Link accepted his fate that this was his idiot.
Both Link and Y/n are the life of the party, but Y/n is more extrovert while Link is more of both but it honestly depends if we're talking about LINK or WILD.
Wild is both
Link is an introvert
"So, what’s your name?” Y/n had asked as she grabbed a baked apple from the campfire nearby. Waking up next to one another naked was not how you two wanted to meet but you brushed past it and tried to become acquainted with him instead.
After a few seconds of silence she spoke up again, “Well, not much of a talker huh? I’ll go first, My names Y/n” you say, snapping the apple in half you hold one side out to him.
“If you don’t have a name, I’ll give you one. Nice to meet you, Bob” you grin, you watch his every move and soon he reaches out and grabs the other half of the apple, “Link, it’s Link.” “Well, Bobs a nice name too” that earned a faint chuckle from the boy.
Four/FS Link
Now.
Y/n in this era is a pain in the ass.
as noted in my 'More than one'
She's stubborn, feisty, sharp tongued, short tempered, strong headed but she is reasonably logical and is the smartest one out of the Y/n's.
One more thing to add about her is that she can't fight effectively, she can throw punches at people but to monsters? She rather not. She helps with strategising with Time and Warriors until she ends up in a small argument with either one when discussing plans.
Anyways! Four is our darling, calm and collected but won't hesitate to put you in your place, a perfect someone for our dear Y/n!
Four can tolerate her behaviour more than anyone else because they are childhood best friends, Of course there will be times where Four has to be stern with Y/n but that's only to make sure she doesn't get overwhelmed with anger.
Despite all her negative comments she may say about him she doesn't mean it half the time because deep down she's touched at how he still sticks by her side.
Y/n also likes to make things, like an inventor or fix things. Four makes and Y/n fixes.
Yes she knows the colours and finds them 'annoying' too.
Blue? Loves riling him up and arguing with him
Red? Likes to tease him until he's almost crying.
Green? Likes to point out every mistake he makes which always puts him off
Vio? Can relate to him and genuinely has a sorta connection with him but can end up arguing but Vio would win because his calm and collected self pisses her off because it's like her words aren't effecting him.
Relationship trope? I would say Sunshine x grump.
At the age of 5, you were in your little dress and your mother had just finished doing your hair, You were hiding behind your mother as she greets the new neighbour who was a old grandpa smith.
"Y/n? Go say hi to the nice man's grandson" Your mother encouraged. You looked up at her with a pleading look but she gave you a look that said 'You better go now or else you'll experience the pain when we get home.' You gulp and shuffle towards the little boy.
The boy grins, you could see a gap in his teeth which made you grimace, "I'm Link! Nice to meet you!" Link held his hand, You gently took his hand. "I'm Y/n"
"Awe! They're already getting along!" "R-really? They just introduced themselves-" "Would you like coffee?" "O-Oh yes that would be lovely"
Once the adults were out of sight you scowl, yanking your hand away from him "I don't want to be your friend, If anything keep 10 feet away from me" You point at him which made him blink in surprise but he grins again. "Cool! Let's play!" He completely ignored your words and grabs your hand again and drags you over to a grass patch.
"W-Wait! Gosh dang it!"
(She hasn’t acquired the ability to swear just yet.)
Sky/SS Link
Ah.
I Love this Link a lot.
Which is why I want to give him the most complicated relationship with his Y/n.
Relationship trope? She loved him too early, He loved her too late + SLOWBURNNNN
It's painful, I know.
Y/n in this era is known for her shy exterior, she was easily brushed off since it was as if she was never there. Of course she was in a trio with Link and Zelda but it felt as if she was third wheeling and she was sure Link had a crush on Zelda so Y/n never brought up the fact she had a crush on him. Had a crush on the boy for a few years now.
CHILDHOOD BEST FRIENDS AGAIN!
He began to develop feelings when they were on the adventure to get Zelda back, It was the first time he's seen Y/n so...out there and he can finally acknowledge her as she truly was.
But as his feelings grew, her feelings lessened
He did have a love rival, Ghirahim.
After their adventure with each other he was going to confess his feelings but when Y/n could see the fond look on his face she didn't want to know what would've happened next so she didn't allow him to finish but instead told him she was going to leave and adventure the surface again.
Link was heartbroken, he was a sappy lover type...He wanted to be yours.
He offered to come along but you refused saying you didn't need him and that he should be with Zelda again.
That's when he realises.
"Are you new here?" Link asked you curiously, the young boy, probably just turned 5? You were 4 at the time and the boy smiled "I've never seen you around before!" You only sniffled "I've been here since I was little" "W-wait, really? I'm sorry I haven't noticed you earlier."
"Why's that?" You asked softly, still haven't made eye contact with him yet. "Because we could've been friends a lot faster!" Your head snaps towards him after hearing his words. "So, Should we be friends?" He smiles. It takes a bit of encouragement, you were hesitant at first but you gave a small nod.
"Yeah, Okay..."
Wind/WW Link
Obvious disclaimer this will just reach as far as a crush as the two are underage and I find young relationships (Below 15) Silly/Stupid.
Ironic enough, You didn't meet Link but rather introduced to him after he was allowed on Tetra's ship.
You weren't friends with Link...No. You were best buddies with Tetra!
Y/n is a mermaid, I think it's fitting because there aren't any Zora in this era and it's pirates. Pirates need mermaids to cause chaos duh.
Well ironically enough, You're the princess of the sea so when you heard of Tetra and her crew you were intrigued so when you were having free time from your princess duties you somewhat came across their ship.
They caught you at first and were going to sell you but you convinced them not to and somehow you're a part of the team as a not official- official team member.
Back to you and Link, You had ventured with him at times because unlike Tetra, You could swim beside Link and aid him along the way.
"SHE SPLASHED ME!" Link cried out as he wiped the water off his face to the best of his abilities, "Oh Boho~ Get used to it" You taunted as you stick your tongue out at him.
"You're going to let her talk to me like that?!" Link looked towards Tetra who had only shrugged. "Oh grow a pair. She's harmless" Link looks back at you as you grin up at him, showing off your sharp teeth. "Harmless my ass.."
Legend/LTTP Link
Now.
Link hasn't met his Y/n in this era yet so I can't really comment on anything.
However, Y/n already knew Link before meeting him in the 'More than one' series.
Not because of the tales told about him or his adventures but she's talked to him a few times but just not in her own skin.
Sound confusing?
It is.
Anyways, This Y/n has the most tragic backstory out of them all which made her emotionally reserved but in a way she's not depressed or anything like that, she's content. (Despite everything she’s been through)
That's a story for another time.
Link doesn't particularly like his Y/n at first because of how at ease she is when the situation is serious so he thinks she's just messing around so something stupid might happen.
Relationship trope? A bit of sunshine x grump? Not really but slowburn.
Hyrule/LOZ Link
Another Link who hasn't met their Y/n
Now I think these two resemble puppy love.
His Y/n has bimbo vibes
She doesn't dress like one I swear, plus the others forbid.
She's pretty and dumb.
He's pretty (In your eyes) and dumb.
Y/n doesn't think too much about her actions nor about the consequences which led her to getting hurt many times but with Link by her side there's another healer to take care of her.
(HW Y/n was impressed and upgraded him to her apprentice...Warriors wasn't happy that Hyrule immediately on HW Y/n's good side)
Their relationship is love at first sight? Morley Y/n since she is quite open with her opinions, Know not to tell him until time is right.
Gossips with BOTWY/n the most about it which always results in Y/n to get teased.
His Y/n is overly excited, golden retriever vibes, extreme extrovert.
Link is the complete opposite.
(In my eyes at least)
Opposites attract.
Also!
If anyone's wondering the Y/n's do hold a triforce in position...or should I say Tetra-force?
I like to think that some of the Links have love rivals just to spice things up.
I didn't add a little story for Hyrule or Legend because of course, they only met their Y/n in the more than one series. Also guilty because I did not edit this.

Rulie deserves some pampering time. Make him relax and not lift a finger!! Needs to hear nothing but praise and gratitude for once in his life! (All the Links do tbh but!! Singling our Hyrule for this)
Praising and Pampering Hyrule
(A/N:) I love Rulie sm. He's such a sweetie pie he really does deserve some loving and recognition.
Contains: GN!Reader, the hc that Hylian ears wiggle bc I love it, Rulie being mildly insecure and also doted on
Word Count: 348
Tumblr media
Hyrule blushed immensely, but made no moves to protest as you stroked his cheeks and cooed at him. He was currently buried up to his neck in blankets, and you wouldn't let him get up for anything.
It was...nice.
While maybe slightly smothering, it was nice to have someone caring about him so much. Actually...doing things for him. Encouraging him to rest. It wasn't something he was used to.
Hyrule was usually the one going on errands, doing quests for ungrateful people and offering others a reprieve when they needed. Now he was the one in that position.
It was an odd, unfamiliar feeling, but...he kind of liked it.
Especially because it was you.
You were so kind to him. Always so sweet. So thoughtful. He didn't deserve it.
And maybe he was imagining it, but it seemed like all that attention was reserved just for him. He never saw you doting on Wind, or criticizing Legend's sleeping habits, and he certainly never saw you cooking for Wild.
But you did all those things for him. Sometimes you were like a mother hen with how you cooed over him. But he didn't mind it. Not at all.
He liked being worried about. He liked being taken care of. He liked being loved on.
...And he definitely liked being praised.
"So strong..." You murmured into his jaw, pressing kisses to his face. "So noble, so kind...and so handsome..."
His ears were twitching enough that there was no way you hadn't noticed, and it only made him more red–pink crawling up to the tips of his ears as they wiggled happily.
"I- I'm not..." He whispered shyly, but his resistance was rather weak. Even if he didn't believe such things about himself, he didn't want you to stop saying them. So he wasn't fighting it too hard.
"Hush, yes you are." You smooched his cheek, and pulled his head into your chest. "You're precious and sweet and such a gentleman-"
He buried his blushing face into your chest.
Oh Hylia, you'd be the death of him.

ꨄ︎ - ,, Yandere Hyrule - ,, ꨄ︎
"Here. I got you these."
"Flowers? Thank you, Hyrule. They're really pretty."
"Wild helped me pick them out. Since he's good with vegetation and all."
"They're my favorite. How did you know?"
"Um... Intuition! You pick up a few things when traveling for so long. I always saw your eyes linger on them when we traveled through fields."
I stalked you as well. I read through your private daily journal. I realized that whenever you were sad, you and Wind would pick flowers together and make flower crowns. I was in the woods watching both of you, feeling jealous and insecure when you mentioned that those flowers were your favorite. You looked so pretty when Wind put that flower crown on your head, like a ruler, like a god(dess).
"It means a lot that you're so insightful."
A lot more than you would know, love. Just for you. Only for you.

If there is an LU boy that deserves more fics its this sweetheart!! I freaking love Hyrule so enjoy some fluff with him!
Late Night Reading
(Hyrule x Reader)
Hyrule descended down one of the castle's many spiraling staircases towards the basement. The stone walls and steps, though repaired since his last visit, still cracked and crumbled under his meticulously placed steps. Ready to give way at any misplaced weight or unsteady footing. It was a dance Hyrule had long since memorized in his many trips down to the castle's lower floor. Easily skipping over or shuffling past rubble and debris that littered the narrow stairwell till the stone floor leveled out into an equally narrow hallway.
He took a bite of the fruit in his hand. Nibbling on its sweetness that tingled on his tongue as juice dribbled from the corner of his mouth towards his chin. He wiped it away with the brown sleeve of his shirt. His usual green tunic, bracers and other items were left upstairs in the room he was currently supposed to be sharing with Wild and Four, leaving him in just his simple brown shirt and trousers. His sword was still strapped across his back. The inside of the castle may be safe but this was still his era and he wasn't about to take any chances going somewhere unarmed.
He took another bite as he headed down the hallway. The small candle’s flame flickering against the cold draft wafting by. Old suits of armor, rusted and covered in dust, lined his path to the large door at the end of the corridor.
Hyrule paused. The door was cracked open; A soft light coming from just within.
Not only was it late, the sun having set hours ago, but besides the occasional visit from Aurora or Dawn he was the only one to ever even come down here. Hell he didn't even think anyone else knew about this room.
He approached quietly, blowing out the candle and tucking it away in case it gave him away. His ear hovered over the door, listening for any sounds of movement coming from within. His hand hovered over the hilt of his sword, listening to soft footsteps, mixed between the sounds of papers being shuffled around and books being closed and reshelved. There was no other indication of who or what could possibly be inside. So he braces a hand against the wooden door, giving it a gentle push to open it a bit further. Releasing a puff of air when it didn’t creak, he stuck out his neck, peeking inside the room.
His eyes scanned the length of the large study. The light came from the large stone fireplace to the right. The small flickers of flames leaving the room in a dim, golden hue that caught the reddish flecks of the wooden bookshelves that lined the perimeter of the room. Each one packed with books, maps, trinkets and everything else one might need in the quest of research. To the left was a dark wooden desk that matched the surrounding bookshelves. Its drawers and hidden cupboard housed the many personal journals and items of the room's previous owner that Hyrule had been slowly trying to sort through since first coming across them.
Your figure sat perched atop that desk. Only in a pale blue nightgown that Aurora had leant you for the night. The princess was taller, the difference in height making the material of the dress fall well past your feet that dangled above the room's dark purple carpet. Your elbow rested on your knee, crossed over the other with a book firmly in your hand. There was a small stack of books on either side of you as you flipped through page after page.
Hyrule exhales, feeling a bit silly for how suspicious he had been. He smiles, pushing the door open all the way.
“How am I not surprised you found your way down here?” He teased, leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest.
Your head shot up, the surprised expression of being caught red handed making Hyrule only chuckle.
“Hyrule! What are you doing down here? Shouldn't you be in bed?”
“Shouldn't I be asking you the same thing?” He countered, strolling further into the room till he stood beside you. He unstrapped his sword, propping it up as his hip leaned against the edge of the desk. Bracing a hand on its smooth surface.
“Besides, does a guy really need a reason to be in his own study?”
Your eyes widened, slamming the book in your hands closed and shoving it away from you.
“Your..? Oh my gosh I'm so sorry! I didn't- I was just exploring and I wound up here! I didn't mean to intrude!”
Hyrule chuckled at your frantic response. Calling out your name to try and get you to calm down.
“It's fine, you're more than welcome to be here. I was just surprised is all. Not very many people know about this room so I didn't expect anyone to be here.”
“Are you sure?” You asked cautiously, scooting off the desk till your feet touched the ground. “Cause I can leave! I don't wanna-”
Hyrule put a hand on your shoulder, stopping you from making for the door. “It's fine, really!” He assured you, picking up the book you had just been reading to hand it back over. “Besides, I know I said this place is mine but it still doesn't really feel that way so I’d love the company.”
You smiled softly, visibly relaxing as you held the book tightly to your chest. You met his honey brown eyes, a blush creeping onto your cheeks as you quickly diverted your attention.
“So what exactly is this place?”
“A study” His voice as flat and dry and Gerudo desert.
You rolled your eyes at the shit eating grin on his face, playfully hitting his shoulder as he laughed. Letting yourself hop back up to sit on the desk, you crossed your arms over your chest with an unimpressed look on your face.
“Alright alright, I give. Aurora showed me this room a few months after she woke up. Told me it was her grandfather's back when she was little so most of the stuff in here is his. He apparently traveled a lot, so this is where he kept everything.” Hyrule moved to the other side of the desk, pulling open a drawer stuffed with loose pieces of paper. Hyrule grabbed a handful, handing them to you to look at. Each one looked like it had some sort of sketch on it, like a roughly drawn map or depiction of specific places or people.
“Wow you weren’t kidding. Seems like this guy got around.” You marveled at the sheer number of places depicted on each page. You didn’t even think some of these were in Hyrule.
“You like those?”
You nodded, scanning through all of them again before handing them back for Hyrule to put away.
“Ya know, since you're here, think you could help me with something?”
You twisted around, nodding as you watched Hyrule dig through the desk. He knelt down, making you crane your neck to try and see what he was doing. Popping back up, he held a stack of leather bound books and a few rolled up pieces of parchment.
“Could you take a look at these?”
You outstretched your hands, letting Hyrule place some of the books in your arms and the others beside you. Most of their titles were vaguely familiar while others seemed to be in a completely different language. Hyrule came back to your side, leaning against the desk with his arm pressed against yours as he hovered over you.
“What exactly am I looking for?”
“Are you able to read it?”
You looked closer, focusing on reading what was in front of you instead of just glazing over it. The writing wasn’t exactly your Hylian, but it had a fair amount of similarities. Enough so that you were able to make out most of the letters and words to get its general concepts.
“It's a bit dicey but yeah I can read it. Why?”
Hyrule rubbed at the back of his neck bashfully. Avoiding your gaze as his ears took on a soft pink. “I uhh..I-I'm not the best reader to begin with, and a lot of the books in here are too old for me to even really begin to understand. I was uhh, I was hoping…”
“Hyrule?”
His head was still faced down but he glanced back at you from the corner of his eyes.
“Would you like me to read these to you?” There wasn’t any teasing to the way you asked which Hyrule appreciated. He had always been a bit self conscious about how poorly his reading skills were. Especially since meeting the other heroes. The pink on his ears now spread across his whole face as he barely nods his head with a hopeful look in his eye. You smiled, patting the spot on the desk softly as you opened the book. Hyrule lifted himself off the ground, sat pressed against your side as you began reading aloud.
—---
Most of the books weren't very long, allowing you ample time to read through the whole thing. Hyrule would scurry off after each one to grab another, or make sure the fire gave you enough light to keep going. He listened intently as you read. Pressed against your side and waited patiently when there was a particular difficult section, sometimes skipping over the more intricate words or phrases.
He was especially interested when you realized one of them had been a spell book. You simply put that one aside, promising to try and help him through it at some other point in time.
Finishing the most recent book, you hand it back to Hyrule to put away. Watching him shuffle away to one of the bookshelves across the room. His mouth pressed into a tight line as he tried to decide on his next choice.
You took the short moment to appreciate the way his fingers brushed softly over the different books like each one was something precious to him. Forearm flexing as he reaches up to pull a specific one. How his mouth would gently blow away the dust before giving it over to you.
A draft brushed through the room, making you shudder at the cold air.
“Are you cold?” Hyrule asked. Eyebrows furrowed in concern as he made his way back to where you were still sat on top of the desk. His newest selection clutched in hand.
You nodded, rubbing your arms slightly to ward off another shiver. Hyrule looked around the room, eyes landing on the small fire. He immediately offered you his hand, placing yours on top curiously as he wrapped his fingers around yours. His hand, rough and calloused, held yours with a unique tenderness as you slipped off of the desk. Letting him lead you over to the fireplace, gesturing for you to sit on the floor in front of the fire. You comply, sinking down onto the soft carpet as Hyrule handed you the small book he had picked before dashing off somewhere to your right.
He returned with a large blanket, draping it over your lap before settling himself right behind you. With his legs on either side of you, he nestled close enough so his chest pressed against your back. His fingers poked at your shoulders, coaxing you to lean against him. You did, using him as a makeshift backrest as you let yourself get comfortable. Adjusting the blanket so it could at least cover some of his legs as well.
“Shall I continue?”
He nodded enthusiastically, making you giggle as you let the book fall open on your lap. The illustration of a small boy took you off guard, but Hyrule's excited gasp made you jump.
“Wait, I know this!” He snatched up the book, pointing to the drawing. “I heard these stories as a kid! Hylia, I never realized they came from an actual book. I just thought it was a word of mouth sort of thing.”
You giggled at the way he excitedly looked at all the different pictures of the small boy. One running through the woods while another showed him fighting a large monster.
“Read it? Please?” He asked, putting it back on your lap expectantly. You only giggled more.
“Sure Rulie,” You cleared your throat, leaning further against him as you began. “In the kingdom of Hyrule, there was a young boy…”
Hyrule's chin came to rest upon your shoulder as you read, pretending to follow along as he listened. He desperately tried to focus on the story and not the way he was pressed against you. The two of you had been close before, hugged a few times now and again but nothing like this. Not cuddled up in front of a fire, alone, your body pressed to his with no one around to witness it.
His hand twitched where it rested on his own knee, sneakily sliding down till his finger was right next to the curve of your hip. The fabric of the nightgown was soft though Hyrule’s mind was focused on how thin the material was. No wonder you had gotten cold. He pinched a small bit of the fabric between two of his fingers, wondering if the skin below was just as soft.
He let go, letting his knuckles press into the dip of your hip. Testing to see your reaction to his touch.
Nothing. Hmm…
He held his breath, letting his hand fully come to rest on the soft spot of your body. Palm laid flat against your, trying not to dig his fingers into the plump area. You didn't miss a beat in your recounting of the story, only letting more of your weight lean against him. He tried to suppress the giddy feeling in his heart as he struggled to breathe normally.
His fingers moved on their own after a few minutes, tracing small circles into your hip. Slowly gaining enough courage to come up to your waist. FIngers continued their movement as his head lolled sideways, feeling your cheek rest against the top of his head. He paused once he realized you had stopped reading. Staring down at the page you were on with a confused look on your face. He immediately retracted his hand, even scooting a bit away from you.
“(Y/n)?”
“Sorry it's just…Hyrule be honest with me?” You turned to face him straight on. His heart pounded against his chest as he frantically tried to think of what he had done to upset you.
You held up the book.
“Are these stories about Legend!?”
Hyrule burst out laughing,
You hit his shoulder, making Hyrule fall onto his back as he continued his uncontrollable laughter.
“You knew didn't you!” you yelled, but there was a light laughter to your words. “Oh you little-”
You couldn't hold back your own laughter, your insult only morphing into more laughs and giggles as you both tried to catch your breath. Hyrule propped himself up on his elbows, his stomach hurting in the best way. You hovered over him, still trying to smother your own fit as you poked his chest.
“I can't believe you have a storybook about Legend!”
“Do you think he'd lose it if we showed him?” He asked, finally able to speak coherently.
“Oh my gosh can we!?”
Hyrule sat back up, his face coming unexpectedly close to yours. “Sure,” he chuckled. “We can show him in the morning.”
Your smile at the prospect alone was worth the risk of his grumpy predecessor tearing this book to bits when he saw it. Your eyes sparkling in the light that Hyrule couldn't look away from as you tried to imagine the look on the Vet's face when he realized he had quite literally been reduced to a children's storybook.
Hyrule’s hand lifted to your face, knuckle bushing your chin. His thumb just barely grazing your bottom lip that had you suck in your next breath.
Goddess he wanted to kiss you.
He searched your eyes, his hand still holding your chin. Your hand reached out to rest right on his collar bone, fingertips tickling his neck as you glanced down at his lips. It was all Hyrule needed before he leaned in, lightly touching his lips to yours before nervously pulling away.
“S-sorry! I just..well you just looked so..and I-”
“Link” You called out. The use of his real name instantly caught his attention as he shut his mouth and looked at you expectantly.
You cupped his face softly, leaning forward to kiss him again.
He didn't know what god or goddess he needed to thank but he would be thanking all of them just in case.
Your lips were incredibly soft as they moved against his. You tasted better than any honey or sweet Hyrule had ever had. The edges of his mind blurring into a heightened buzz that had you easily becoming his new favorite sugar high. His hand supported the back of your head, strands of your hair tangling between his fingers. His other wrapped its way around your waist, pulling you closer till he could feel your chest against his. Your hands dropped from his face down to his shoulders, wrapping around his neck to tangle your fingers into his loose curls.
You eventually pulled away panting lightly and Hyrule had to bite his tongue to keep from whining. Your arms fell into his lap, letting him places his hands over yours in a quiet moment.
Your mouth opened slightly, a hand shooting up to cover the quiet yawn before they rubbed at your eyes. Hyrule cupped your face, thumb rubbing back and forth across your cheek.
“Tired?”
“A bit” You admitted, leaning into his touch that all but sent his heart on fire.
“I guess it's probably pretty late. I'm sorry I didn't mean to keep you up this long.”
“I don't mind, I really enjoyed spending time with you, Link.” You offered him a small smile as he helped you to your feet. His head screaming at the way his name so easily fell from your mouth.
“Just a sec,” He hurried over to the fire, lighting the small candle he had from early so he would still be able to see before putting it out. You folded up the blanket, draping it on the desks chair since you weren't sure where Hyrule had gotten it. You picked up his sword, handing it to him as he quickly threw it on his back. He grabbed your hand, letting the candle light guide his way out of the room. “Come on, let's get you to bed.”
____
The walk back to your room was quiet. The castle’s lights having likely been put out hours ago; leaving the candle and the sliver of moonlight peaking through the windows as your only aide to navigate through the hallways. Luckily Hyrule knew the way, otherwise you might have been left to wander around for another hour or so.
His hand kept a firm hold on yours the whole way. Interlocking his fingers with yours as he led you to the upper levels where the bed chambers were. Small squeezes or a rub of his thumb over the back of your hand made your heart flutter, wanting only to be closer to him. You timidly wrapped your arm around him, hugging it to you without letting go of his hand.
Hyrule squeezed your hand at the action, a small reassuring gesture to let you know it was okay.
He finally found the door to your room, opening it for you and waited as you reluctantly released his arm. Another soft squeeze before he leaned down to kiss your forehead.
“Goodnight,” He whispered, finally letting his hand fall away from yours. He turned, ready to make his way to his own room when you latched onto his wrist. His eyes immediately looked back to your pink cheeks, noticing the way you chewed nervously on your lips.
“Dawn gave me my own room ya know…It feels kinda odd sleeping alone after so long of traveling with you guys.” You hesitated, hand still locked around his wrist. “There's plenty of space if you, ya know, want to stay…?”
Breathe Link. You need to breathe.
He nodded, not trusting his voice to come out normally. He smiled at the way you lit up and stepped into your room, tugging him after you till he was through the threshold. Closing the door behind him with a soft,

With all the asks from 👾 I've been thoroughly inspired to write something for Hyrule in the House Husband AU because it now just lives rent free in my head AKSNNXKS (these asks were the inspiration)
Tumblr media
The chain are in my house now which is just lovely, and while it's good to see that they're still safe. it's concerning that they were so focused on finding me that they'd abandon Hyrule for their search. Did they even see if there was a way for them to go back… or do they not care?
But if how Sage's body has reacted to being in this world for so long is anything to go off of?
Then some of the chain might need some time to adap-
"Hyrule!?"
No, no, no. Please let him be alright, he's part fae, of course, he wouldn't handle the lack of magic well. But I didn't think he'd faint on the spot!
"[name]? What's going on!? What happened to the traveller?"
"I'll explain later, just.. help me get him into my bed."
Where do we even begin, Sage doesn't have it this bad and there are no documented cases of magic withdrawal to look at. Would the best thing to do right now be to get him comfortable and keep him stable?
He’s still breathing, even though it’s worryingly shallow and his skin impossibly clammy. He’ll live though.
He has to.
“[Name] please. We all just wanted to see you, we didn’t - we didn’t think anything bad would happen.”
“Wind… It’s not your fault, Rulie’s going to be fine. I’m sure of it. We’ve got to stay strong for him alright?”
Rulie’s almost in my bed to rest now, if we can just get him comfortable then we can deal with the rest of this as it comes. Maybe I should ask…
“Sage, would you mind making some soup while I get Rulie stable? He'll probably need something thin for when he wakes up. Oh come on, you don’t need to pull that face love.”
Calling him that seems to have gotten him to show a little care for the others, even if it's just to get me to call him more pet names. Although the rest of the chain didn’t seem to like me calling Sage that, there are more important things to deal with right now.
Like getting Hyrule to wake up, if he stays unconscious for too long the only option would be to call the hospital, but that isn’t even a safe option because none of the chain has any ID which would cause a few issues, to say the least.
Starting with lowering his fever is a good idea, there should be something around here I could use. There’s a flannel I can dampen in the bathroom somewhere.
“Guys can you stay here with Hyrule and make sure he doesn’t get any worse while I go and get something to cool him down.”
“You’ve still not said what’s happened to him. Do you know what’s happening?”
“I have a hunch. Nothing certain, but we really need to focus right now. I promise you I’ll explain in a moment, Sky.”
Shoving past where they've all gathered in my room wasn't the easiest thing, but the adrenaline from all of this seems to be giving me an edge over the rest of the heroes, because I know if I didn't have that it should have been near impossible to do.
Coming back with a damp towel; laying it on Hyrule; his breathing becoming more steady, making now the perfect time to explain to the chain what’s most likely happening to him. Now I’ve just got to hope that I can think of how best to explain what might be going on.
“You all want to know why Rulie’s like this? It’s a little hard to explain and I’m not even sure if it's right but I’ll try my best to explain.”
No response. They are looking at me with a lot of concern though, more than that as well but it seems their concern for one of their brothers is outweighing whatever else they want to tell me right now. Guess the best action would be to explain what I can then try to answer any questions they might have.
“You probably noticed Sage’s ears right? Something similar has been happening with him, we guessed it’s most likely due to the fact that there’s no magic in this world. Something to do with that seems to change Hylian or magical features to make them fit would be the best way to put it. Hyrule’s part fae, so the lack of magic impacted him far more as well as far faster than it did with sage.”
“... you’re saying that something like this is going to happen to all of us? That we’re going to lose our magic if we stay here?”
I don’t know if I’m simply hearing things or not but Legend sounded like he was weighing that up as an option. I know they were somewhat desperate to be with me seeing as they’ve gone through all of this to be here but to throw away part of themselves like this? Sage didn’t have a choice to be brought here.
Would he have chosen it if he had the chance? How they’re all acting, like this doesn’t seem world-ending to them, like they aren’t sacrificing everything they've ever known. I think he would have decided this in a heartbeat now.
“It seems like that. Unless you have a way back to Hyrule then I think it’s almost certain to happen.”
Rulie looks to be stirring a bit now giving me an excuse to step away from why the chain are acting so concerning; instead focusing on him as he wakes. Gently taking his hand in my own the only real thing we can do is wait for him to get up and then figure out how bad everything is. However long that may take, I’ll make sure to stay here by his side.
He doesn’t need to wake up alone with everything else he’s going through.

One Year, Eleven Months and Twenty Days…
When Hyrule set off into yet another unfortunate journey, he didn't expect a sudden, skittish and nosy you to throw yourself into his life, much less for you to hang around him long enough for him to get attached. He believed he didn't need any company for as long as he lived as the hero, however as you proved him wrong, he started to fear for the possible time limit he could to have around you.
character — Hyrule, romantic.
cw — angst, hurt/comfort, mention of battles/injuries, paranoid behavior, self-blame.
I don't know why I'm starting a long fic, but rulie brainrot took over me, so here we have it. Chapters may not be as regular as I'd like, but I already have the general outline and can say it will be from something in between three to five chapters, so... Yeah, I hope you guys will like it!
Tumblr media
Chapter 1 — Of a lonely hero and a daring traveler
Tumblr media
Two minutes.
It took him less than that to notice that you were injured upon your first encounter, even when you tried to batantly hide the fact with a few poorly timed jokes. He inspected your form from a distance he deemed safe enough, unconvinced by your clear act of amicability towards him. You were just a traveller, just as himself, he happened to stumble upon while running away from yet another village, a very nosy traveller who took upon yourself to help him, the Hero of Hyrule himself, because of his seemingly weak state — he was just a tad tired from the long run, nothing less than usual for him —, while not noticing how poor your own state was, bandage around your upper arm bleeding through your coat.
You were quick to make yourself comfortable on his presence as the two of you had been making way towards the same destination, "Two are way better than one when travelling" you said and while he'd much rather disagree, he didn't do much more than offer a curt nod, accepting of you for as long as you didn't make the first move for a fight.
Fifteen hours.
Was the time before the first nightwatch, the forest far too dark for anymore walking to be productive. You tried to keep watch first, however he disagreed — far too paranoid to let himself be vulnerable on another's presence —, winning the heating discussion with his stubbornness alone. You went to sleep clearly disheartened — you'd take that as your chance to attack, he was sure.
When you woke up to take your turn he didn't offer much complaint, much to your surprise, and went to lay beside a fallen tree, back pressed tightly into it, too afraid to let his back exposed to any lurking enemies.
He did not sleep however, no, of course not. That would be a stupid move when he wasn't clear of your intentions yet, he was sure you were hiding your claws yet, ready to pounce whenever he was the most vulnerable, unable to fight back.
Surprisingly, the night ended peacefully, you dealt with a lurking wolf and even hunt down for breakfast, but made no moves towards his seemingly sleeping form, no glances, no traps, no poisons, nothing.
Three days.
Before the tiredness started catching up to him.
He hadn't slept for the few days your accompanied him, his body slowing down and his reaction time getting worse by the day. If you noticed his state, you made no comments on it, he could see, however, how his workload seemed to decrease slowly, you started walking more slowly saying your injured leg seemed to get worse — a light strain he was sure he had cured the night before as you slept —, you started checking the surroundings before the both of you walked into the next area and started carrying most of the weight around.
The next time he woke up, it must've been at least a days later, his head resting upon your now clean coat, as you sat farther into the clearing, beside a waterbody apparently cleaning down your sword and refilling the water flasks. He could feel the weight of one of your spare hoods on his head, along with a fresh smelling bandage who was poorly wrapped around his head, from this alone he could guess you didn't attempt to take a closer look at his face, which he was minimally grateful for.
In his usual state he'd make sure to go against your action, but in all his tiredness he couldn't bother himself to care enough for it.
It was only a matter of time before he fell down, the workload too much for his system to process. His vision blackening and mind wandering before he could even make contact with the ground.
As much as he wanted to depart soon towards the next city for a restock, your battered state made him hold his tongue. Your sunken eyes were enough of a tell of how much you took care of him in the time he was off. After that he made sure to sleep at least enough during the nights to come so the journey wouldn't be anymore delayed.
Two weeks.
The young boy couldn't even begin to wrap his head around the thought that this money wasn't just yours, but his too. When he tried shaking his hand in disagreement however, he could already see the frown starting to form on your face, stopping before another argument could start, not noticing how lately he seemed to cave in to any of your pleas.
You had reached the first city and he could finally bid you goodbye.
Or so he thought, before you were pulling him through the market, selling off any pelt, spare meat and any shiny object you got your hands on during the short time, the loot he found annoying you took everywhere soon making a hefty amount of rupees he didn't think of before. The most off-putting part of it however was how you naturally turned to him, showing the bag of money to him, while saying " We made so much money this time, all thanks to you" with a big grin.
One thing he could notice that day, was how you were just as awkward as him when it came to human interaction. The moment one of the innkeeper around your age tried asking about your relationship with him, clearly showing a romantic interest in you, you brushed it off with a laugh, running up to your shared room without even looking back, avoiding the attendant eyes for the whole time you spent around there. It was also the first time you had the pleasure to hear him laugh freely, as he made fun of your situation when you talked late into the night.
Two weeks and two days.
The day the both of you departed from the small city, rupee bag noticeably lighter and equipment way more polished, his arrows switched for more durable ones and his sword sharpened — the smith gave him a side glance, however your chattering stopped the man from making him any questions about the unusual blade.
He gave in to the idea that you might accompany him to wherever he was going for as long as he got your attention, also accepting that you were more useful than he thought at first, as you seemed to distract any possible threats by simply existing. He wasn't sure if it was your charisma or if you made other too afraid to question the both of you, but it still made the last two days he spent around other hylians much calmer than he could ever remember being since he finished his journey as the hero of this land, anytime someone as much as made a move to question him about the hood covering his face you started bombarding them with questions about their wares or glared them into silence, getting a pretty big discount as consequence.
It was uneventful enough as your chattered away, sharing with the boy any information and rumor you got from the locals, the few moblins that were found wandering around in strange patterns, the criminals getting more and more aggressive over the last few days and, of course, the newest cuisine that was created in the next town. The last bit you had gotten from a young postman who had to stay for little longer on the last city he visited, as the monsters attacked and everyone had to retreat to safety.
The thought that it may be his fault made him uncomfortable.
Three weeks and four day.
You were getting closer and closer to a dungeon the both of you wanted to explore, for different reasons, but still.
A certain merchant had talked relentlessly about how he could hear Pols Voices getting louder and louder inside a dungeon over the last few days. You didn't seem too keen on helping out until the man said something about a plentiful reward, but still, you waited so the boy could make the final decision. He agreed more out of familiarity than anything, too used to helping others to say no.
It had been some time since he had fought Pols Voices, and he had forgotten how much they strained his throat, but it was enough of a laugh when you prepared to make the first move and he beat you to it, screaming louder than you had ever seen anyone do in you life. Your eyes went wide, as you could do nothing but watch the ghostly monsters dying before they could even approach any of you in the large room.
"How can your voice be so loud when you're so quiet?" You questioned as soon as you got out of the dungeon, still stuffing the spoils into your bag, and he shrugged in answer, to which you pouted.
Upon seeing the merchant waiting for the both of you a little farther on the road, you didn't think before running up to the man, failing to notice the few other shadows that surrounded his figure. A trap.
Fortunately you were quick enough to act when you noticed what was happening, your hands curling around your fellow traveler's own as you fled with a single cut brushing against your neck.
It could've been worse.
Three weeks and five days.
You believed you were already far enough from your chasers.
You were sweating buckets, blood dried over your whole clothes, probably beyond salvation at this point. The boy beside you was unscratched fortunately, and even when he offered to help heal your injury, you denied adamantly. He could do nothing but watch as you clumsily cleaned and bandaged the cut with yet another herbal mixture, probably the same mixture you had used on him before and worked wonder on his body.
The two of you continued your path without your chirpy voice this time, only the few warnings you gave him the few times he tried to eat or feed you something clearly not edible, upon your standards at least.
Your eyes were peeled open ever since that day, barely sleeping at night and the thought that it might've been his fault plagued him yet again that night.
Four weeks and a day.
He should've noticed the signs sooner.
That night you came up with a ferver. Or actually, since the last confrontation you weren't getting any better from your injury.
He saw how restless you were during the nights, tossing and turning with quiet whimpers of pain, however he made the decision to not cure you from your ails, following your wishes.
How stupid he was.
A hero who couldn't offer his help. A hero who was too afraid to even say his own name. A hero who brought more problems than solutions.
Could he even call himself a hero?
That night he was even more scared than the first time he had someone after his head, he couldn't even begin to understand why the thought of never hearing any of your terrible jokes or see any of your stupid life choices made him so restless, however he just understood that if you were like this because of him, the least he could was curing you before parting ways. It'd be for the better.
His powers didn't work.
A month and two days.
It had been five days and you hadn't woken up. Your ferver was still high as he followed the path, your form slumped over his shoulder.
The first day he cried for hours when he noticed that his powers weren't working, but he knew that the longer he spent on the same spot, the easier it'd be for his enemies to find him.
He was quick to change gears and continue his path, even when his mind ran miles a second, he shouldn't let you get hurt again, he should protect you for being the one who put you through such troubles.
It was hard, and his mind wandered sometimes to the first week he spent by your side, how even with his clear distrust, you took care of him, yet never made any complaints when he fell or made any mistakes, covering everything with an easy smile and a wave of the hand.
It was late at night when you first made any sound that wasn't akin to the sharp pain you were feeling, a low "traveler" falling from your lips, before you coughed because of your dry throat.
When he heard the title you used to call him he was quick to drop anything he was doing, running to your side — just now he noticed he had never told you his name.
You tried to laugh at his desperation as he offered you the flask of water, asking if the layers were too cold or too hot, already rummaging through his bag for anything that might help you now that you were awake, but the moment you noticed the tears falling down his hood and into his shaking hands, you shut your mouth, just taking the bottle and gulping down the liquid without a word.
The both of you sat in silence for a few minutes — he wished you'd stay laying down, but you insisted you were healthy enough to sit at least —, but you sighed when he seemed too lost to even make the first move.
"I was poisoned" He flinched. "Fortunately it was nothing fatal, but the side effects can last a few days… or weeks, I already have experience with these things, so it's not like I'll die from something like that."
He felt himself wanting to cry again when he saw that easy smile of yours, the one you always offered when you knew he was a little down, and somehow you always were right.
The hood that covered his face finally fell as he tugged into it, revealing his chestnut hair, curling until right under his pointy ears, much unlike your own, his eyes had a similar color with a forest green undertone that seemed to drawn you in, even when it was bloodshot from his previous crying, his skin glowing under the moonlight, reminding of the tales you often heard during your childhood about the Great Fairy.
He opened his mouth after a few seconds of a heavy silence.
"My name is Link..." He gulped, eyes descending to his fidgeting hands, too nervous to meet your clearly awed gaze as he wondered if it was the right choice, if you'd recognize him and go after his life just like the others. "I'd like to continue travelling with you… Even after we complete this journey."
You stayed silent for a long time, enough so he would look up to you again seeing the warm, real smile you wore.
"Of course! I'd love to, Link!"

Another Link Crushes On You || Part 1/3
Part 2 || Part 3
Pairings: Hyrule, Time, Sky x GN Reader
Overview: You've known Link for years - Well, a version of Link. Neither of you have seen yourselves as being anything more than friends, although it seems not all Link's think the same, in fact when you're introduced to the Chain, one of the boys happens to fall pretty hard for you. I spun a wheel to let fate decide upon random pairs this time. Needless to say, I had a lot of fun with some of them😁

"Well, look what the cat dragged in. 'was beginning to think you might be dead in a ditch somewhere," You scoff, making your presence known as you lean against the door frame coolly while eyeing your long lost roommate and, more importantly, the company he’s brought home, "Hylia's sake, one of you is enough as it is. Now nine?"
Legend breathes your name in a sigh, not so much as glancing away from the chest he currently digs through, "I can always count on you for a warm welcome."
Despite the sarcasm and rolled eyes, you don't seem to actually hold any true disdain towards one another. Quite the opposite, an observant bystander would notice how the Vet's shoulders relax upon hearing your voice, and how there’s a slight curve to your lips following his snark reply. You’re someone who brings him comfort; someone the Chain can trust.
Pushing yourself from the doorframe, you give them a friendly smile and wave, “I take it you must be the other heroes Link’s told me about in his letters - Less I’m to believe he found yet another ragtag group of misfits to drag around with him…It’s nice to finally meet other people who can bear to put up with his nonsense. I’m his roommate, by the way. Sorry I wasn’t around last time you stopped by.”
"Oh, so he has two roommates then -?”
“- His actual roommate," You correct with an annoyed huff. Of course, it's only half hearted, "Ravio doesn't count since he doesn't pay rent."
"He should. He's around enough," Legend's voice is echoed by the chest.
There’s more conversation to be had as the two of you bicker, although much of it becomes muted ambience for Hyrule who takes to wandering the room in awe of his predecessor’s impressive collection. Boomerangs and gauntlets, hammers and feathers, even an entire little chest overflowing with enchanted clothing…Sure, it’s probably not practical to most, but an adventurer can dream, can’t he? Amongst all of this stuff, Hyrule can’t decide what seems more interesting. The magic rods? A library of maps? How about the unique magical instruments lining the walls?
“...You're the one who practically showed up on my doorstep just begging for a place to stay."
"Really? Because I remember finding and nursing you back to health out of the kindness of my heart after you got your ass kicked by a moblin.”
"I had everything under control -”
- Just then, while half distracted by the argument behind him, Hyrule accidentally bumps into a shelf which causes its contents to shake violently. His shoulders tense in preparation for the awful sound of shattering no doubt followed by Legend’s scolding, but before one of the potions can hit the floor, a hand skillfully dives to catch it.
“Careful there. You could really get hurt with some of the stuff in here,” You smirk, setting the potion back onto the shelf before turning around with your hands placed upon your hips, “I keep telling Bunny this place could be more spacious if he’d just sort through some of this junk, but he’s too emotionally attached to it all to ever take my advice.”
“It’s good to be prepared, I guess,” Hyrule stammers, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment - At least, that must be why he feels so nervous all of a sudden. What other reason would there be?
“There’s already been a few times when the Vet’s items have saved our tails.”
You hum, cocking your head to the side as you look the brunette over. In all likelihood, it’s probably only a split second that your eyes glance his way, yet it’s enough to make him feel see-through. Are you judging him? Do you see how knotted his hair is or how desperately his face needs to be washed?
Golly, you’re attractive yourself - which should be a perfectly normal thing to think because yes, conventionally speaking, you could be found very attractive and for good reason. How did Legend and you meet again? Did he say it was strictly platonic or are you already spoken for? Is that even something Hyrule should be thinking right now? Why would he be thinking such a thing when all you’ve done is look straight into his soul - …And you’re gone.
Regardless of whether you noticed Hyrule’s internal panic, you end up straying from his side to start sorting through a nearby chest yourself. If he hadn’t been stunned stupid, he would’ve heard the words you speak to the group while tossing aside items, “Here’s an idea: maybe some of you guys can take a few items off Link’s hands - Split them up amongst the group to get it out of our hair -”
“- Absolutely not!” Legend’s voice comes from somewhere over the heaps of junk, not that it does anything to stop you.
Finally finding whatever it was that you were looking for, you stand up and make your way back over to Hyrule. Before he can react beyond a jolt, you take his hand and place something in it before putting your own on top. Your touch is soft in contrast to his own rough skin. Oh, and that wink you give him - It’s enough to make his face explode in red. It could be deadly for his heart to race any faster!
“...Don’t let him catch you with it,” You whisper, and that smirk you give makes him certain you know what you’re doing.
“I - um - Oh, sure…I -”
You chuckle at the flustered boy, regrettably removing your hands from his before once again leaving his side. He thinks you say something about refreshments, maybe lunch, but honestly, he’s as good as gone to this world. It takes a bit of shaking from Four and shouting from Wind to properly snap him out of it, at least enough so to finally look down at his hand.
There’s a small blue telescope in his grasp, and it’s with that that he finally decides: you are probably, by far, the most interesting thing to be found here in Legend’s collection.
Tumblr media
This is nice - peaceful, even, which tends to be a rare gift these days. Granted, the sun is a little too bright, and it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if someone walks away from this island with a nasty sunburn (most likely Twilight and Wild), but at least there’s somewhat of a gentle breeze to balance out the heat, and a quiet moment protected from any childish shenanigans is never something to turn down.
Most of the boys have been whisked off by Wind who had deemed it a crime that some of them have never seen the sea before. Those who managed to escape his attention have hopefully been keeping out of trouble on their own, basking in much needed time to themselves elsewhere on the island (after all, it does get tiresome traveling in such a large group for so long).
It matters not which deity has decided to smile down upon him today and grace him with this break. What matters is Time’s relaxed - as relaxed as a man with his background and mindset can ever be - while standing here in the sun, soaking in its glow and your perfectly tranquil company.
Ah yes, he hasn’t been left entirely alone. You’re here, too, but unlike his traveling companions, you’re closer to his age and thus seem to match his level of maturity and easygoing nature - a godsent in these trifling times, really.
Currently, you sit upon the porch humming a pleasant little tune while combing Aryll’s hair. She sits between your legs, happily swinging her feet as you work small handfuls at a time, your movements as gentle and careful as the breeze - And that adoring look in your eyes…It could be enough to melt any heart.
Time finds himself being put at ease by the domestic sight, wordlessly admiring how effortlessly you balance caring for the young child while conversing with a stranger like himself, speaking to him softly as if a personal friend of yours:
“Link’ll probably want to stay with his grandma tonight, but the rest of you might do better staying with me. I’m sure she’ll offer, though I’d worry about the stress hosting so many traveler’s would put on her,” You explain, skillfully dividing Aryll’s hair into two blue ribbons, “I have space in my own hut, so there’d be no trouble.”
“It’s nice weather,” Time mentions, gazing up at the clear sky above, “None of us would mind sleeping under the stars -”
“- No trouble at all,” You emphasize with a breath, pretending not to hear his own point. He merely smiles, having no will to argue. They haven’t been here long, and yet this is the second argument he’s unlikely to win against you. The first was your insistence that they stay the night at all with promises to host them well.
Once finished with her hair, Aryll thanks you in a hurry before scurrying off to find her big brother. You chuckle at her enthusiasm, but soon after, there’s a shift in your mood. Suddenly, you grow a bit sad and anxious. Time can’t help noticing the concern that briefly overtakes your expression, twisting your lips into a frown as you raise a nail to nibble on. Now that you’re truly alone, he can no longer mock ignorance to how exhausted you look, and it takes no genius to understand why that may be.
“...Rupee for your thoughts?” Really? That’s the best he can come up with in all his years of wisdom? It’s such a lame way to break the silence and an even lamer way to start a serious conversation with someone you’ve only just met.
Fortunately, you don’t seem to hold any judgment against him. Instead you sigh and look at him from over your shoulder with a sorrowful smile, “Is my stress that obvious?”
“I’ve been around long enough to know a mask when I see one,” Pushing him off the beam he’s been casually leaning against, Time invites himself to finally sit beside you on the steps.
You don’t say anything all too quickly in response, rather you turn back to the sea with a deep inhale.
“...I worry about him,” You eventually confess through a whisper,“Every time he comes back from one of his adventures, he’s…different. Not enough so for anyone else to notice, but I do. He’s getting older - more mature, for better or for worse - and the things he’s had to witness - the battles and responsibilities that no child should ever have to bear - I can’t help seeing how it’s all starting to wear him down, slowly but surely.
“...And I know - I know this is his destiny and that he’s already saved the world once. I know he can handle himself, but he’s - he’s still just a boy! He shouldn’t have to bear the burden of the world upon his shoulders! He should be running around this island, digging for treasure in the sand and catching pigs. Instead he’s finding treasure in dangerous dungeons and fighting pigs!”
Time frowns. What can he say to comfort you? That it’s all going to get better? That maybe, one day, Wind will return home and stay for good? Even though you’re a stranger he has no obligation to, he can’t bring himself to provide an empty promise like that, because out of all the heroes here, he knows best that it would be a lie. This road they’re on - This road the Goddesses have sent each of them down - There is no end to it…Not one that he’s found, anyway…
Fortunately or unfortunately, Time doesn’t get the chance to collect his thoughts nor offer any words of encouragement (if he could’ve even decided on some). You sigh before he has a second to respond, suddenly looking back at him with an optimistic smile only half fitting of the current mood, “...You’ll keep an eye on him, won’t you? Make sure he doesn’t get too ahead of himself, at least during the time that you’re all traveling together?”
"You have my word."
At a minimum, he’s able to give you that promise. The road ahead is rugged and treacherous with fearsome monsters around every corner…but Time can promise that he’ll give his all to protect those in his party. No harm shall fall upon any of the boys so long as he’s able to take a blade within his own hand. He’ll see to it that Wind returns to your arms at the end of this journey, safe and sound with plenty more stories to tell.
Your sigh releases some of the tension kept within your mind and bones, “...I wish none of you had to go through any of this…”
“At times I wish the same…” His agreement is flat and not exactly what you had hoped to hear, even if it is expected, but at least his next words seem to touch your heart more tenderly, “...But it’s not ourselves who we fight for. It’s people like you; people who deserve to live to see times of peace. The world’s safety will always be payment enough.”
Tumblr media
As a captain in the Hylian Royal Army, Warrior’s experience doesn’t quite follow the same origin as most of his counterparts. His training had been professional and grueling, the weight upon his shoulders more direct than a mere whisper in the wind guiding him. He didn't have the luxury of stumbling upon his destiny or sneaking in to find Ganondorf when the time was right - No, he was publicly named then pushed by circumstances to meet Ganondorf on a battlefield, of all places.
It’s a life few in the Chain can exactly relate to, although some similar undertones aren’t missed upon Wild and Sky. While Wild isn’t one to draw any attention to it, perhaps not remembering enough about himself to know why any of this may or may not feel familiar, Sky’s a bit more acclimated to this systematized environment than his brothers, even if it is still rather different than home.
The army of this world clearly functions on a far larger scale than any of the knights back on Skyloft, and the air carries more tension than what could ever be found in a classroom, even on testing days. Nevertheless, Sky appreciates how much pride Warrior takes in showing off his world, not letting the stern expressions of anyone they pass dampen his excitement, after all, despite some previous experience fighting alongside inhabitants of other timelines, it’s rare that he’s given the chance to be the host himself, not a simple guest.
"There's someone I'd like you guys to meet!" The Captain announces at the same moment his eyes and smile lighten considerably. Clearly, he’s spotted a new target, one he makes a quick b-line for with the others close on his trail.
A call of your name is all it takes to capture your attention, although contrast to Warrior’s spark, you seem far less amused with your reunion.
“And where have you been?” You hiss, your narrowed eyes disapproving as they basically dare your friend - colleague, maybe? - to try excusing his sudden absence and casual reappearance. Now that’s an expression that really sends Sky back to his days at the Academy! Why, he’s only seen it about a hundred times on his instructors over the years!
"Working," Warrior must be accustomed to being on the receiving end of such a harsh glare, because he completely fails to even acknowledge it, instead swiftly changing subjects as he gestures to the heroes behind him with much fanfare, “I came here to introduce you to -”
"- Sailor!” It’s funny how quickly your expression switches, igniting like a fueled fire. Within seconds, you’re rushing right past Warrior to embrace the youngest hero of their group, “Now there’s a face I’ve missed! Long time no see. Oh, look at you! Have you gotten taller?”
Luckily, Wind seems just as happy to see you, giggling and practically hanging onto you as you rub your knuckles into his hair. With your arm still tossed over his shoulder, you raise an eyebrow towards the rest of the Chain who now feel suddenly out of place, not certain if they should also know you.
Warrior comes up to your side to explain, “Funny story, but everyone you see before you is a reincarnation of the hero’s spirit.”
“Ah! Heroes from different times?” You gasp, pressing a finger to your chin as you look them all over with serious consideration yet hardly any surprise. Maybe you’re just as used to this sort of thing as Warrior is, “...Now that you say that, some of them do seem a bit familiar…”
“You must be the Hero of Twilight Midna spoke of!” You conclude with a point towards their Rancher who jolts. Whether because of the sudden attention or the mention of a sore name, he won’t get the chance to say, “I’m guessing so anyway, based on her descriptions, although I must say, she made you sound more…-”
“- Brutish? Rugged?” Warrior’s smirk is smug yet sadly untouchable amongst the careful watch of the surrounding military.
“I was looking for a nicer word, but that is what she said, isn’t it?” You sigh with a defeated shrug before turning to the oldest of the group. You gasp once again, this time with more heart, “And you! You kinda look like -! But it couldn’t be…Is that you Sprout?
“Talk about someone getting taller! The last time I saw you, you were only yea high!” Time’s thankful that you don’t give him the same treatment as Wind, instead minding your distance while awing at the height difference between you both now, although your smile soon turns sorrowful the longer you look him over, “...Your adventures haven’t been kind to you, have they?”
“In case you haven’t already guessed, this is the historian friend I’ve mentioned before - The one who probably knows more about us than we’re to know about ourselves at this point,” Warrior finally explains to his confused friends, coming up to place his hands upon your shoulder, “Give us a favor and try not to overheat now.”
“Oh don’t be so jealous,” You shoot him an unamused glare and swat him away, however he’s saved from any more scolding when you at long last look to Sky. Based upon what little the Captain has mentioned about you up until this moment, you’re a simple Hylian with no powers beyond your strength with a sword and impressive knowledge of Hyrule’s history…So why is it that your eyes have suddenly managed to freeze him like stone?
"As for you, I recognize that shield from Skyloft's era which means...You must be the Hero of Sky!" Your expression once again lights up like a beacon as you swiftly take his hand and give it a firm shake, not seeming at all fazed by his stunned stance, "You're the Master Fi spoke of, I take it? It's an honor to meet you."
"I, uh - It's an honor to meet you, too," At least he gathers enough of his wits to stumble out some words.
"I must say, Skyloft was one of my favorite places we visited during the war. Such a peaceful island - Well, after getting past the life-or-death battles that brought us there in the first place," You say, nudging Warrior as the two of you snicker. Oddly enough, Sky feels a bit disappointed to lose your focus and even more so to see the bond Warrior and you clearly share. Why, though? Why feel so omitted from someone he’s just met?
Fortunately, the negative feelings don't sink too deep until your attention becomes solely trained on him, "There's so little that has survived in our history books about your time - a real shame, too. As the first hero, I'm sure you have some unique experience under your belt."
"I-I guess you could say that…" Sky mumbles awkwardly, shooting a hand up to rub the back of his neck. Then, suddenly feeling a bit bold, he decides to test his luck with an offer, "I could, um, tell you about them if you want?"
Your eyes widen while Warrior rolls his, "You shouldn't have suggested that -"
"- Really?! Well, I'd love to hear it!" Before he can react, you have Sky’s hands sandwiched between yours, your touch impressively soft despite your years of training and fighting or maybe he’s just imagining them that way, "Could you start with the Imprisoned? We fought it a couple of times during the war and man, was it a pain. Fi mentioned you thought it yourself several times. Tell me, how did you -"
"Aaand we lost them…" Warrior groans, face smacked against his hand as you practically drag Sky off without so much as a goodbye to the others, "We're not going to get a word in ourselves for a while now. Let’s just go see if we can’t get an audience with the Queen and come back for them later.”

To get away, Chapter 5
Things we don’t speak of.
Not beta read lol
Tw: talks about ptsd and healing, and legend self loathing but are we surprised? No.
Tumblr media
“So.” The traveler said, eyes drooping as he and the veteran walked out of your room. He was still exhausted.
“So.” The veteran mirrored him.
“Are we going to talk about that?”
The veteran took a deep breath and heaved a sigh. “Link. There are some things we don’t talk about… things we don’t speak of….” He took another breath. “This is one of them.”
“Often, those are the things we need to speak of most… you know I’ll understand more than anyone.” The traveler put a hand on his shoulder.
He turned to him slightly, a pained expression on his face. “…but will you? Will you really?”
“Have I ever given you a reason to think otherwise?”
The veteran stalled, looking off beside the traveler’s head. “…no.”
“Exactly. Let me in.” His grip on the vet’s shoulder tightened slightly. Comfortingly. That pressure was comforting.
The vet pulled him down the stairs and outside. He was never good at talking about his feelings and trauma, and goddesses forbid anyone else being around to hear it. He took a deep breath and looked off, not wanting to look the traveler in the face while he spoke.
“…one of my adventures consisted of…” he paused. “a dream. And that was the only time I’ve ever… trusted someone with—me… and that wound me up losing who at the time I was so sure was the love of my life. I lost her to this big stupid windfish. The entire thing was fake—it was the windfish’s dream and i had to wake him up. Marin was gone after that. The island was gone.” He fought back the bile rising in his throat. “It’s all just a distant memory now but-…. All the time, I’m terrified of waking up and everything being a dream. It’s like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. Like I can’t let myself be happy, and I hate it. Why do I do that? Why can’t I just let myself be happy?”
The veteran finally looked over at the traveler, tears in his eyes and threatening to spill. The traveler wrapped him in a tight hug. “Fear does that, Link. Creeps up on you. Sometimes you’ll go ages without thinking about it and then all of a sudden bam. You’re back in. You feel like you’ve been dragged back, claw marks in the dirt—but you haven’t. You don’t have to start over every time you have a flashback. And you don’t have to stop yourself from being happy… you can let yourself be happy. Don’t waste your life waiting on the other shoe will drop… Cause you’ll realize it never will, and realize you’ve spent so long trying to survive that you never lived.”
The veteran took a deep breath and his shoulders shook. He was crying. That soft, quiet cry developed into a sob as years of unprocessed trauma and heartbreak came forth, flowing out like a cup of wine left under a running tap. Healing.
“If—it happened so long ago—why does it still hurt so bad?” He choked out, muffled by the traveler’s tunic.
“It’s like a bone.” He said softly. “When a bone heals wrong, you have to break it again so it will heal properly. Then you can use it.” He rubbed his back.
The veteran felt small. He realized this was the smallest he’d ever felt in his life. He always saw the traveler as his younger brother. Someone he had to protect. Someone he loved more than himself…now, he felt like the little brother. Felt like a little boy. A kid. Cradled by his older brother, hidden away from what cruelty lies outside. Safe. The veteran felt safe.
“I’m sorry.” The traveler spoke again. “I’m so sorry that happened to you… and I’m sorry you didn’t have anyone there for you then… im sorry you feel like you need to be guarded all the time. You don’t… not with us, at least… we are all here for you. Anything you need…”
The vet nodded. He sat up and wiped his eyes, sniffling. “Thanks, man…” he sighed heavily, head feeling heavy and thick from crying. He could hear his heartbeat in his ears and he hated it. He hated to cry. Hated feeling small and weak.
“A bone has to be rebroken before it can heal properly.” He remembered. He wasn’t weak. He was healing.
“Really.” He spoke again. “I really, really appreciate it… thank you.” He hugged him tight.
“Always. I’m always here. So are the others…” he pulled away when the veteran did. A cold breeze passed through them and they both shuddered. “We should get inside. You need sleep.”
“..i can’t go back in there with her. I don’t—“ the veteran tried to make excuses but they died on his tongue when the traveler put a hand on his shoulder.
“You can. Just go in there. You were rooming together anyway… she’s alright. Healed, thanks to whatever powers she’s got. Go sleep in a bed.” He smiled. “You’ll wish you had a bed to sleep in a few days from now.”
The veteran huffed a laugh for the first time in a good few days. “Got that right…” they made their way back inside. Everyone had gone to bed by now. They went up to their rooms, the traveler pausing while the veteran went inside. “Night, traveler.”
“Goodnight, vet.” He smiled. “Sleep well.”
The door clicked shut and the traveler went off to bed.

Isekai!Reader Meets Dink
Tumblr media
It has been A Week and I needed to write something less serious. Reader meets Dink and roasts him. Part 1 (you are here) ✿ Part 2
It was a stupid idea, really, but it was all you had left. The entity in front of you was running circles around the group. One moment, it was a Lizalfos, jumping away from any attack. Then, it was Darknut, taking every hit as if it was nothing. It would blend into the darkness of the night before leaping out somewhere new.
Dodge. Parry. Dodge. Breathe in. Breathe out. It took everything in you to avoid the weapon the thing before you was wielding. Nobody wanted a repeat of what happened to Twilight. But the fight was going on for too long. Hyrule was running out of magic. You could hear Sky struggling to breathe behind you. It raised its weapon towards Time. He wasn’t going to be able to dodge in time.
So, you did the only thing you could think of. You grabbed your sword. You jumped up. And you smacked the thing on the head. You heard something crack, and the beast fell.
The shadows melted under you, reforming and reshaping. Whatever it was, you had dazed it. The chain surrounded the writing mass of darkness, swords and shields ready for whatever it would become next.
The form solidified. An arm. A head. Legs. It was kneeling, clutching its head with one hand. It turned its face to you, glaring. You recognized this new form.
“DINK???” You exclaimed. The shadow winced, it’s head still throbbing from when you had hit it. Time paled. He recognized this enemy, too.
“What did you just call me?” The shadow growled, but there was no threat. He was too weak from the fight.
“Uhh. Dink?” You shrugged, the grip on your sword loosening somewhat. “It’s what the fans have taken to calling you. Dark. Link. Dink.” Wind snickered at your explanation, and Dink turned to glare at the boy. Wind took a step back, raising his sword to defend against the shadow’s gaze.
“Do NOT call me that.” He stood, and you realized he wasn’t even an adult shadow. It was the same form he took in the Water Temple. Seventeen. Lanky. A threat, for sure, but also…
“What? Dink?” You smiled, making sure to stay out of his range. “Why not?”
“I am the shadows. I am darkness. I am everything the heroes of light are not.” He wobbled on his feet. Had you concussed him? “I am the dark reflect-”
“Uh huh.” You interrupted his speech, rolling your eyes. The sun was just starting to peek over the horizon. Time to stall. “Sure, Dinky. Shadows and darkness and all that emo stuff.” You nodded. Twilight pressed his lips together, trying not to burst out laughing as you mocked the entity. Warriors looked at you like you had grown a second head.
“I am not… Dinky.” Dink took a threatening step towards you. You calmly stepped away from him.
“I dunno, man.” You smiled. “You’re acting pretty annoying, with all the portals and what not. You gotta be compensating for something.” Behind you, Legend wheezed, trying to keep a straight face and failing. Dink stared at you for a moment before the shadows near his cheeks darkened. Was he… blushing?
“You…” He looked around. He was surrounded. There was no getting out of this. He turned to face you again, taking in your relaxed expression. “What is WRONG with you! You’re supposed to fear me!”
“Why?” You made a show of checking your nails, picking the dirt out from under them.
“I am everything the hero stands against!” Dink shouted. “I am the darkness within him!”
“Well, good thing I’m not the hero.” You wink. “The greatest darkness I need to face is working up the courage to call the pizza place for dinner.”
Dink blinked at you. Maybe it was the concussion. Maybe you were just insane. Whatever the case, he had no idea what to say. Usually, the person he was fighting would be shaking with fear at this point.
The sun rose slowly over the horizon, the light filtering through the leaves of the forest. Dink hissed as it hit him, his body disappearing where the sunlight hit him directly. He looked sort of like a very evil (or very moldy) slice of swiss cheese. He looked towards the sunrise, shielding his eyes and wincing.
“I’ll be back.” He glared at you. Then, he sunk down into the ground, disappearing into the shadows still left. The chain watched him disappear.
Time was the first to break the silence. His laughter echoed through the now quiet morning. The others followed suit, some even clutching their stomachs or falling over.
“Y/N, that was bloody brilliant.” Wild gasped in between fits of giggles.
“Well, we weren’t going to win fighting normally.” You blinked. You hadn’t expected this reaction.
“So you chose to use psychological warfare instead?” Hyrule wiped a tear away from his eye.
“Ye.”

Another commission!
They asked for Calamity Link with a soulmate au. Of course I had to oblige.
Masterlist
Content under the cut!
You were under the assumption that your soulmate was either the most romantic person alive or you were going to be made into the most oblivious person on the planet.
Every person by the time they turn ten years old gets a special mark on their skin. It was usually on the inside of their wrist, but there have been known cases where it has appeared on the leg or back. It’s not exactly common but there were more than enough people to stand out from the norm that others neednt be concerned when they didn’t see anything on their wrist.
This mark that the people receive is considered special and unique to each and every person. While it appeared to be nothing but beautiful calligraphy lines made up of total gibberish to everyone else, it was said to be the first words your soulmate would say to you.
No one else could read it but the person the words were written on and the person who was to speak them. It was both to keep the sanctity of the bond safe from those wishing to sabotage the connection and to keep either party from finding each other too soon.
At least that was what you were told from a young age. No one really seemed keen to prove whether that was the truth or not. Most were ready to merely accept it as reality since it made the most sense.
Your mark was directly over your heart. If you were to ask anyone they would have said that it appeared as beautiful climbing vines with a multitude of unique flowers that twirled up to your collarbone and over your ribs.
You on the other hand, every time you looked into the mirror saw the words etched in black ink, ‘You; it was always you.’
The idea of those very words being written over your heart was enough to send it pounding. The thought of having someone important enough, with those very words, the first words they’ll say to you, and having them etched over your skin in such an intimate location; was enough to make you swoon.
“It was always you.” You trace the words over your skin and smile to yourself.
A horn blares in the distance. It’s sharp, long and alarming. Your city is under attack!
Panic floods your system quickly. Before you can even begin to think of the ramifications of your actions, you go to the window to see what it could possibly be.
Bokoblins, moblins, lynels- each creature more menacing than the last, begin to storm Mabe Village. Screams of your neighbors begin to fill your ears and shake the walls of your house.
You rush out of the building and take to the streets, not wanting to be near the beginnings of the fires the monsters are setting. The smell of smoke quickly envelopes the main square and you’re stuck wondering where your family went.
Your first instinct is to go to Castle Town. The city had high walls and was fortified to withstand such an attack. There were countless talks from your neighborhood that should anything happen, you were run to the city at once. It was the safety plan after all if you weren’t on the field fighting to protect your homes.
The adrenaline however, serves to confuse you. As you run through the city of Mabe Village, you find yourself running in circles, always coming back without finding the exit.
The monsters quickly catch wind of your confusion, targeting you before you so much as have the time to gather your bearings. Bokoblins are quickly on your tail, rushing at you with high pitched shrieks and pig-like snorts. Their thunderous steps shake the ground as they begin to gain ground on you.
You’re already so tired.
Shing!
The monsters scream, turning their heads to a new attacker. You don’t look behind you, but you’re not too far gone in your panic to not notice that someone has come to your rescue. You hope it was one of the knights. Someone trained and able to defend just enough so you can make a proper escape from the attack.
As you hide behind one of the walls, you can hear that the battle is short. Even when your own breath threatens to cover up the sounds of the battle, it’s not lost on you that it’s only a matter of moments before the monsters are no more. There’s the tell tale sound of smoke as they poof out of existence. Their cries of agony cut short by their failing bodies.
Whoever has come to your rescue must be incredibly skilled.
The silence that falls over the area is unsettling at best. Almost like a calm before the storm. Eager to get away but unwilling to at least not thank your rescuer to his face, you poke your head out from behind the wall. What you see shocks you.
There’s a young man there about your age. At least that’s what you’re willing to assume. He’s blond with his hair in a ponytail at the back of his head. Pleased with his work, he sheathed his sword again, turning toward you.
Your breath catches in your throat. He has the bluest eyes you have ever seen on a person. “Th-thank you.” You stumble toward him, fumbling over your words as the shock of nearly being attacked washes over you. You introduce yourself quickly, wanting to know the name of your savior.
The young man’s eyes widened. You hear him suck in a breath to speak in reply before a loud crashing sound cuts him off, diverting his attention behind him.
A young woman of the sheikah clan screams, running past the both of you. The knight doesn’t hesitate to chase after her, cutting off the bokoblins from attacking her much like the ones before had planned for you.
You, with very little forethought, rush after her as well, wanting to drag her safety as the knight deals with the threat.
But she trips, dropping a strange object in her hand.
A small, white, egg-like structure jumps to life while the city’s foundation begins to shake beneath you. Unwilling to let that dissuade you, despite the strange tower that begins to emerge from the ground, you rush toward the young woman and pull her to her feet. Ducking to give her the strange plate-like thing she was carrying earlier, you shove it in her hands and push her behind you.
“Are you ok?”
“No.” She replies, looking up at the tower for longer than you think necessary. “I needed to bring this to the castle.”
Once the tower was fully erect, the monsters ran in the opposite direction, giving the three of you more time to breathe.
“It’s… a tower?” The sheika said softly, gazing questionably up at the massive structure.
“I… I guess so?” You answered her, looking around as if there were answers to be found in the air.
The knight nodded at you both and you gave him one in return. You were both alright. Unharmed for the most part. Just confused.
He turned to the egg-like thing and studied it. You followed his gaze and realized that you’ve really never seen anything like it before. It looked mechanical but ancient, seemingly brought to life by the change and attack of the monsters.
“An inexplicable guardian…” The sheika walked up beside you. “And a mysterious tower… I hate to say it, but we have little hope of figuring this out on our own.”
“He’s kinda cute…” You tilted your head at it, watching in fascination as the little being walked around on its three legs and made small beeps and boops.
Without warning, the little guy took off as fast as it could go out of the direction of your city.
“Hey, what are you-! No!” The sheika ran after it. “Stop right there!”
The knight ran with her, leaving you alone in the once chaotic square.
“Oh… ok…” You looked around awkwardly. Now what? The battle seemed to be over. The cries of the monsters and the sound of the clashing steel had faded to nearly nothing. It was quiet now.
With not much left to do, you went back home to check the damage.
Unscathed.
Odd, but not unwelcome. You tried to shake the events of the day off of your shoulders and get on with it. It was easier said than done.
The course over the next few days left the people of Hyrule dizzy with unrest. The hustle and bustle of daily life had shifted to more exciting times, with an inherent sense of doom and foreboding. Many were speaking of leaving the city or Hylian territory altogether, but where would they go.
Your family had tried to keep things calm within the walls of your home before the people had caught wind that the princess herself would be traveling through. It was probably the most positive news Mabe Village could have received, even if it meant she was only passing through.
Your neighbors were to remain indoors to leave her undisturbed. But of course that didn’t mean that people wouldn’t be looking through the windows to catch a glimpse of the beloved Princess  Zelda.
You were of the same mind, if only because she was nearly elusive otherwise to the hylians of Mabe Village. You had no idea what she looked like.
Hearing the small troop pass by your street, you picked one of the highest windows your house had to offer. You saw her. Blond in her royal street attire. You smiled softly. She couldn’t have been much older than you either. The thought was somewhat comforting.
But then you started to pay attention to the people around her. There was a zora at the back accompanied with a rather large goron, but there was a familiar mop of blond hair next to the princess that had shaken you.
It was the knight from before!
Had he always accompanied the princess? Or did he get a promotion? If he was the princess’s personal guard, then what was he doing so far down in your city when it was attacked?
Your heart ached with a strange and foreign pain. It felt constricting, almost as if you were suddenly unable to breathe.
The knight turned around suddenly, catching you in the window at once.
You gasp and duck, hiding yourself behind the walls once more as you try to settle your racing heart. The eye contact was borderline electric. Your mouth was instantly dry and your palms were covered in a thin layer of sweat.
“What is wrong with me?” You whisper, hugging your knees to your chest. He was handsome, sure, but not panic worthy. At least, that’s what you thought. You’ve never had such a strong visceral reaction to a person like that before. You still didn’t so much as know his name.
You stayed hidden until the entourage had passed.
Sounds of chaos quickly started up once again. From the sounds beyond the walls of your home, the infamous Yiga Clan had gathered in an attempt to murder the Princess Zelda.
This time however, you stayed inside. The handsome stranger that saved you had much better things to do with his time than entertain you when you would only be getting in the way. Losing your life didn’t seem worth the price for simply wanting to meet him again.
Which would have been the end of it, if you had done the smart thing and stayed out of sight while you were at it.
Curious creature that you were, you looked back outside your window.
Right into the ever lifeless gaze of a Yiga mask.
You screamed as the cult member laughed and quite literally pulled you out of your home, tossing you to the streets and arms of another member waiting for you below. Their sicken laugh scratched the back of your brain like nails on a chalkboard.
You tried to fight out of their hold, but without any training on your side, you were no match for the ever ruthless Yiga Clan.
You screamed again as the man began to leave without in his arms. Thoughts of what’s to come and what they could have possibly planned for you invaded your mind at once, instilling panic and fear. “NO!” The shrill sound of your own screams seemed foreign to your ears, having reached a point of terror you’ve never experienced before. “LET ME GO!”
The Yiga Clan male fought to keep you within his grip. You kicked, punched and tried to elbow him in the weak points your father had tried to teach you in the past. But given that you were being held from behind, they had little to no effect on the beast which held you captive. A peaceful life has left you at a disadvantage unfortunately. There wasn’t anything you could have done to get out of his grip.
Even as you landed a considerable hit to his groin, you were simply dropped and picked up by another Yiga Clan member.
You screamed in outrage and adrenaline, hitting the person as many times as you could before you were teleported into a place the civilians avoided at all cost.
“Enjoy the party!” He taunted before teleporting away from you.
You shot to your feet at once, staying silent before making an attempt for the exit.
The beast before you was huge, bigger than most of the houses of Hyrule. With burgundy skin, gnarly toes and claws, it’s one eye opened with a flash. The hinox roared to life, indignant at being woken up from its nap.
The scream that tore through your throat was blood curdling and raw.
The beast settled its attention and rage on you as it took a step forward. You ran, knowing that this beast could eat you in a single bite if it managed to grab you. Anything within arms distance of this beast was a borderline death sentence.
You tripped.
Rolling over, you saw the massive, black tipped claws reaching out to you and screamed again, alerting everyone and everything to your impending doom.
Ffffpt-!
You gasped, feeling the air around you snap as an arrow embedded itself into the finger of the hinox. It bought you enough time to get back to your feet and run away back to safety. You crashed into somebody, making you scream again in the assumption it was another Yiga Member.
He grabbed your shoulders, settling you at once. You looked at him and gasped. “It’s you.”
The knight looked at you with an almost panicked expression before shoving you behind him.
A beat passed as the hinox roared again. It eyed you both but the knight wasn’t undeterred. He shoved your shoulder with a grunt before rushing the giant without a single look in your direction.
You took the silent order to heart and ran as fast as you could back to anything that resembled relative safety.
In trying to figure out where in your city you had been taken to, you ran into the zora and goron you had eyed before from your window when they had passed your house. You ran to them without thought, seeing that they were armed and more than capable of defending themselves.
“Help me!!”
The zora appeared to be a smaller female, red in the scales and adorned with chains and zora jewels that you saw from time to time when the merchants visited Mabe Village on their way to Castle Town. You ran to her first. “Help me! I don’t know what to do!”
She gasped softly when you collapsed to your knees by her side. She fought off the remaining Yiga and gently put a hand to your shoulder as you fought for your breath. A calming cooling sensation washed over you. It settled in your bones and chilled away the small aches and pains you had gathered in your tussle with the Yiga members that had taken you out of your home.
“Are you hurt anywhere else?” She said softly.
You gulped and shook your head. “No. No, I’m not hurt. At least not terribly so. Thank you.”
“What happened to you?” The goron walked over. “I’m Daruk.”
You introduced yourself, quickly explaining what happened to you and why you were outside at the moment of crisis like this. “I think they wanted to use me as a distraction to get the hinox hungry for more. But there was a knight who came to save me. Blond. Blue eyes.”
“That would be Link.” The zora said with a soft smile on her face. “He is the princess’s personal guard.”
“Her personal guard…” You echoed with soft awe. That would make more sense. He appeared to be exceptionally skilled with a sword and he was no doubt good at what he did to be where he was. You gulped quietly, regarding the talismans on the zora in front of you. Something about her seemed important. “I don’t think I caught your name.”
“Mipha.” She bowed quickly. “Princess of the Zora.”
You quickly got to your feet in a rush. “I’m so sorry… I didn’t mean to get in your way.”
Mipha shook her head. “It was my pleasure to assist you. Head home and stay low. We will handle the Yiga.”
“They’ll regret ever stepping foot here!” Daruk swung his rock smasher with little regard to the space around him.
You nodded frantically, thanking them both for their assistance before making your way home with nothing but getting to safety in your mind.
It didn’t register until the next day that you had finally a name to the knight that continually saved you. One day, when things calm for the sake of normality again, you want to thank him to his face.
The unexpected attack on the princess, while it proved futile, had done nothing to lessen the tensions around your home.
As if to make matters worse, the skies had darkened on the evening of the princess’s seventeenth birthday.
The ground shook and the ever standing Hyrule Castle was shrouded in dark, blistering red smoke. Screams once again echoed through the streets as the men, women and children all began to run.
Mabe Village was close to Castle Town as it was. The smoke was quickly spreading and overtaking everything in its path.
The tower in the middle of the city shuts down. The lights dimmed and the points at the top collapsed as the power to the pillar was cut off.
Explosions are heard from the direction of Hyrule Castle and all hope is quickly lost.
Strange malicious machines that your stunned and melted brain unhelpfully identifies as guardians begin to storm all the inhabitable range of your people. People take off running, taking to the streets and the guardians blast through every wall as if the bricks were nothing but plaster.
You run, cursing your luck of living in interesting times for the nth time over the course of a month. You panted and ducked quickly into the woods for a safe hiding spot. You bobbed and weaved through the trees and the bushes, desperate to feel something akin to normality once more.
You trip, rolling to your side and tucking yourself close to the trunk of a rather large tree. There’s a small hole between the roots. Despite your exhaustion, you shimmy yourself into the hidey hole to catch your breath. The tension snaps from your fatigued body and you black out.
You’re not sure how long you’re there for.
You wake up every now and then, succumbing to the blissful realm of the dreamscape, wanting to escape the nightmare that your home has found itself in.
Shouting.
More shouting.
Human voices.
They’re coming closer.
“Is anyone here?”
“Come out! We have refuge!”
“We are here to take survivors to a safe point!”
“Anyone!”
“Here.” You call you weakly, your voice stunted and torn from the abuse and disuse it had gone through. You force yourself to wake up, to keep fighting. Pushing yourself free of the tree roots and the brambles, you crawl toward the voices. “Here!”
“We found one!” The men shout and rush towards you.
The next hours are a blur. You’re wounded (which would explain why you struggled with consciousness) and apparently weaker than you cared to acknowledge. You and a few others they had managed to comb out of the forest are quickly escorted to a horse driven carriage, where a doctor and healers await you.
You are taken away, through the thicker parts of the forest and through trails you fail to recognize. The doctors and healers treat you and patch you up, letting you drink water and broth to regain your strength.
You nap again, feeling safe in a way that the previous days hadn’t allowed you to feel.
You wake to find yourself on a bed, warm and undisturbed.
Strange. The last thing you remember was being on that carriage. How did you get here?
The light is nearly blinding after being shrouded in dim lighting as you were. The sky is still dark, appearing as if the world was bathed in a red tinted twilight. The view would otherwise be spectacular.
You can see nearly all of Hyrule from your vantage point. From the Hebra region, to Death Mountain, all the way to Akala and the seas beyond. Stranger yet, you know you’ve never been here before but you can’t help but recognize where you are.
“...The Great Plateau.”  The words leave you breathless.
Looking around, you see that there’s many Hylians around. Most of them are knights. But was the occasional civilian out and about, tending to the soldiers and keeping the basic settlement afloat by attending to the basic needs.
“Oh you’re awake.” Someone notices you and quickly gives you the rundown of what’s been happening while you’ve been recuperating. Your hand lands over your heart, feeling the weight of something lost you’ve never obtained. Many have fallen. Your soulmate was likely to be one of them.
The King had taken to settling on the plateau for a counter strike after the castle was lost, bringing all that he could to safety beyond the blackened clouds.
In the distance, you can hear the roar of battles continuing to be waged, of monster cries and laser blasts and more explosions than you could count.
The skies get darker still.
Determined to make yourself useful, you begin doing everything you can, aiding your people with your talents as they regroup and form a strategy.
Within hours, a blinding light overtakes Hyrule Field. It forces the blacked skies at a distance, bringing the sunshine back to the surface of the earth. And with it, the unfathomable notion of hope. Hope that all is not lost.
The princess had awakened her power.
News quickly spread like wildfire and everyone was excited at the hint of victory over the horizon. You yourself were happy as well. The idea that the nightmare would soon end would be enough to buoy your spirits until it was all over.
Help arrived almost at once. It seemed that within the course of a day, the princess and the troops that had rallied beside her had joined the group at the plateau, eager to merge the forces of Hyrule once more.
You watched the soldiers all clamber to the Temple of Time when you saw him. The knight from before- no, you should have known him better by now. It was Link! With the princess!
Something in your heart rejoiced at the sight of him unharmed and well. You gasped and rushed toward him before you remembered yourself. Would he even remember you? It had already felt like a lifetime again since you had seen him by the hinox. And even then, it was a passing glance at most as he saved your life for a second time.
You stepped back, turning around and slapping your cheeks softly.
No, it was futile. He had bigger things to worry about than to bother with you. He was merely doing his duty.
Footsteps. Foomp-!
“What in the-?” Your words had been cut off. Someone had rushed to you, hugging you from behind. A moment passes before they let go, allowing you to turn around to see them.
“Link?” Your eyebrows shoot up. He looked on the verge of tears.
“You.” He croaks, hugging you again.
You’re thoroughly confused. “Me?”
Lightning strikes in your head. You’re impressed by the fortitude you had managed to clamor together to not scream at the top of your lungs.
“...Me?” You breathe, putting your hand over your heart in the pattern of your mark.
He nods, seemingly shaken up by seeing you once again. “It was always you.”
The young man nods, ripping off his gauntlet and showing you his mark. With your mouth suddenly dry, you took his hand gently in your, bringing his wrist closer to get a look at the black lace like patterns on his skin. However, instead of gibberish like your brain was used to expecting, there; in bold unmistakable letters was what you had told him. ‘Thank you. I’m-’
And there was your name. Plain as the nose on your face.
It was heart stopping. The air was thick around the two of you as he waited for your reaction. He had known for much longer than you. Also unaware of if you were safe or not while he had run into danger head first on multiple occasions. The thought causes you to grip his hand a little tighter. He still needed to run head first into danger. The war was far from over.
The silence drags on and the others are beginning to stare. It’s not lost on the people what’s happened. There’s only so many that willingly show their soulmarks to another and not have it be dismissed quickly. It’s achingly clear that you’ve read what it said.
You can’t stand the growing tension and you hate to think about the implication of this discovery. Wanting to break the ice, you gulp and give Link a weak, if rueful smile, much to your dismay. “...You had it way easier than I did.”
To his credit, he laughs, shifting his hand into your grip to properly hold your hand. “You… could say that.”
You smile a little easier, looking at his hand as he holds yours. You can feel the calluses on his hands from no doubt the hours he’s put into his training. It’s enough to make you gulp. The sword on his back, while new to you, is glaring obvious to anyone who knows of the role he must play.
“...I’ll wait for you.” You decide. Because you will. Because it’s the only thing you can do.
Besides; you’ve waited long enough for your soulmate as it is. You can wait a little bit longer.
“Just promise me something?” You whisper, putting his hand over your own mark. He nods, all determined and serious. The fierceness of his gaze sends your heart pounding within its cage. You nearly forget how to speak. “...Come back to me. I can’t-... I can’t lose my soulmate after just finding him.”
“Link?” The princess walks in your direction. You hear her quiet and confused voice as if it was miles away. You’re too focused on the will-be-hero in front of you.
“Promise me.” You stress, pressing his hand harder over your heart, over your soulmark.
He nods. “Promise. I wouldn’t ever do that to you.”
Something else clicks in your mind then. Not only had he known who you were to him before you knew who he was to you, he had saved your life. Not once but twice from what would have been an immediate death otherwise.
And then the castle was taken over.
He had no idea what happened to you. Link could have easily assumed that he lost you without ever speaking a word to you. He must have been terrified.
You gulp. The weight of that knowledge sits heavily within your stomach like a lead ball. “Good. I’ll hold you to that. On your honor as a knight of Hyrule.”
“On my honor as your soulmate.” He whispers, pulling your hands away from your chest to press a small kiss to your knuckles. “I swear by this.”
“Oh.” The princess looks awkward suddenly, quickly making herself sparse to no longer intrude on the moment.
Your heart goes out to the young lady, but you can’t fully bring yourself to care too much, too caught up in your own little world at the moment.
“My soulmate…” You smiled at him. “I like that idea.”
“May I-?” He says, fingers deftly moving to fiddle with the he of your sleeve. He takes a moment to breathe before looking you in the eye. “May I see your soulmark?”
You bite your lip, fighting back the blush that threatens to consume you as if your life depended on it. “It’s not on my wrists.”
“...Oh.” He says simply. You can see him poke his cheek from the inside with his tongue before he clicks it softly. “Where is it?”
You smile and take his hand again, putting it back over your heart like you had done earlier. “You’ve always been here.”
Link smiles. Actually smiles at you.
He was breathtaking. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back. You were blushing all the way down to your chest, no doubt covering and coloring the intricate vining over your skin.
“Always there.” He echoes softly. “Always with you. Never forget it.”
“I have you with me forever.” You reply. “How can I?”
“Link!” Another voice calls, snapping you both out of your trance. Jumping, you turn to the voice, looking at a rather diverse group of people watching you both shamelessly.
“It is time.”

A/N: Cause I'm in a soft, gooey mood. I'm thinkin of the Links being married.
Tumblr media
~~ Imagining Wild smiling so softly down at a letter, looking so love-strucked yet yearning at the same time. Of course, one of the boys called out to him in a teasing way, wanting to know what got him all head in the clouds like their fellow skyloftian knight. He huffs softly and replies with a voice filled with longing, "My spouse wrote me a letter, basically wishing me safety and sweet dreams of them to soothe me."
~~ First normally kept to himself about his s/o, wishing to keep them safe during his time in prison for 4 years. Pushing you away from Demise's grasp with one last kiss, as he headed off to fight hard and long til his last dying breath. Only to reawaken in a coffin, tumbling out and wondering where he was.
His first thought after was wonder of if you were alive and kicking. He rubbed his left ring finger in a panic, sighing in relief when the metal met his skin. The impression of your bright, sweet smile soothed him, made his heart beat fast until the sound of a screech reached his ears.
~~ The look on the chain's face when a body slammed into Legend was hysterical yet made him shy under their wide questioning gazes. He wanted to squirm out of your hold, only to halt when those eyes, filled with tears of relief and love made him melt on the spot. He softly sighed and rubbed their head while exchanging gentle words between them.
The ring on your hand made them choke in surprise; so those rings on his hands are for distractions, huh?
~~ Hyrule kept his ring on a necklace under his tunic, away from sight due to conflict. His head was always threaten to be on a pike, didn't help when he carried all three pieces of the triforce on the back of his hand. He was constantly hunted, he worried they would come to find you if they were to ever find out he was married to you. Yet alas, he would be found by Legend with him sitting there, idly messing with the ring around his neck, a far off look on his face and a gentle smile. Of course, the veteran was going to be curious of whom caught the dear traveler's heart.
~~ Four watched you idle around the living room, gesturing a flick of your wrist to who could lay where without the worry of stepping on somebody. He stares with his chin in his hand, smiling softly as you jabbered on about something to one of the Links. The colors laughed when you bickered and bantered with that Link before silencing at the sweet smile you quickly flashed over to him alongside a wink.
He covered his face with his hand, flushing red at the laugh that echoed in the home.
~~ Once again, he had his head in the clouds with a dreamy smile on his lips. Sky clutched the letter close to his chest and heaved a tranquil breath, his ears flapped wildly, almost imaginary hearts fluttered and popped around his head. Some of those groan, while the other laughed and shook their head at the lovesick expression on the skyloftian's face.
He raised the letter above his face, pressing a gentle kiss against the ink on the bottom of the page then one to the ring gracing his finger.
"I'll be home as soon as I can, my love."
~~ He was so giddy to be home. As one could be, he was always the composed and conscientiousness captain, but when given the opportunity to reunite with his love. Warriors is practically floating down the path to his shared home that the group is struggling to keep up with his rampant pace. He can't help himself! He needs to smooch his spouse! It's a crime to him to be away for this long from them.
The look on their face when he entered the house with a flourish yell of their name, made his heart soar.
~~ Time chuckled when you fussed over Twilight, tucking him in before glaring at the male when he tried to protest. His descendant looked at him with a silent plead for help, only to slump when the old man shook his head and made an 'x' symbol with his arms. He knew that butting in would not protect him from your glare too.
He rather walk straight into a pit of lava than face your glare head-on. Though he melts at the passing thought of you tucking your future child in, sternly telling them its bedtime and that rest is important. He makes his way over, pressing himself against your back, lacing his hand with yours and placed a kiss against your forehead.
~~ He was already suckered from the day you first played together when you were both children. From the shy glances to the shared giggles, to the sleepovers and to the shared secrets. Twilight knew he had to have you as his spouse when you jumped into his arms and kissed him without a thought after he saved Hyrule.
Even as he stared up at the night sky during his watch, he could still remember the sight of you walking down the aisle with a shy yet giddy smile on your lips. He rubbed the ring back and forth as the memories took over his mind, making the time go by fast til he was tapped out by the next watch. He falls asleep easily when his head hit his pillow, with a faint smile on his lips.
~~ He felt smug when the chain jaws dropped at the sight of him running towards his spouse yet ignores them as their squeals and giggles graced his ears. Fierce swung them around softly in the air before slowly lowering them in his embrace, holding them by their waist, closing his eyes and pressing his forehead against theirs. He purrs at the hands that cupped his face, sweet yet butterfly like kisses gracing his skin that soothe the ache that grew in yearning for their touch.
He felt them move away the white strands away from his forehead, placing a kiss against the blue 'v' shaped mark there. He retaliates by placing one against the ring on their finger before opening his eyes to them. Feeling himself melting in their ever so loving and gentle gaze, "You still look radiant, my dear jewel."

Hellooo, can I apply to the Chain with a human reader that have cuteness aggression? Like get excited because they think they are so cute, it bites them, stuffs their face with kisses unexpectedly and that sort of thing. Sorry for my bad english
Oooh nice nice nice~! Let’s see~
—————
Reader is just out here loving on the Chain and expressing their adoration in the most chaotic, wholesome ways, and the guys… are definitely not prepared for it.
-Time-
Time is always a bit stoic, so when they grab his face and squish his cheeks because he’s ‘too cute for his own good~!’ he doesn’t know what hit him.
Since he’s already fond of and trusts them, he eventually relaxes in their hands.
(You know that meme of the cheetah startled before relaxing into a person’s hands? That’s exactly what he’d do!)
He’d be flustered but would try to hide it, especially when they bury their face into his chest or arms and mutter about how adorably grumpy he looks when he’s focused.
It takes him some time to understand that their cuteness aggression is how they express love, but once he gets it, he secretly loves it.
He’d definitely let out a deep chuckle eventually, he can’t resist when Reader is being so sincere and genuine and quietly say “You’re ridiculous…” while patting their head to hide his fondness.
-Twilight-
Twilight would be completely baffled the first time they tackle hugged him and started ruffling his hair because he was “too cute to handle.”
He’s used to being seen as the tough, capable one, so their sudden bursts of affection leave him utterly confused.
If he’s in wolf form? Forget it. Their squeals and petting sessions would have him rolling his eyes—but secretly wagging his tail.
Over time, he starts leaning into it. If they’re going to smother him in kisses, he might as well tease them about it, right?
Also, if they try to hug him by running and jumping at him, he’ll just pluck them out of the air like they weigh as much as a paper ball.
-Sky-
Sky would absolutely melt under their aggressive affection.
When they cup his face and pepper kisses all over, he turns into a blushing mess.
Every time they call him “too adorable for his own good,” squish his cheeks, or hug him unexpectedly, it catches him off guard.
He doesn’t really know how to react beyond stammering and smiling shyly, but deep down, he loves every second of it.
Over time, he starts looking forward to the way they tackle hug him out of nowhere, it’s become a source of comfort for him.
-Legend-
The first time they bit his arm after calling him “too cute to handle.” he gave them the most incredulous look and blurted, “Did you just bite me?!”
Legend would be absolutely mortified at first. He’d stiffen up like a board, his face completely red, when they start squeezing him or kissing him.
He’d grumble, “Stop that! I’m not a dog!” every time they squish his cheeks or call him “precious” (even though we all know he’s a sweetheart).
The faint blush on his face always betrays how much he secretly enjoys it.
Eventually, Legend starts letting his guard down, and they’ll catch him actually leaning into their hugs. (But if they point it out, he’ll huff, and they’ll risk overloading on cuteness and biting him again, thus restarting the loop.)
-Four-
Four would be thoroughly confused the first time they tackle hugged him out of nowhere, mumbling about how ‘precious’ he is.
If they ever bit his arm or squished his cheeks, he’d blink at them like ‘…Are you okay?’before blushing like crazy.
Red would adore the attention and immediately reciprocate. Blue would roll his eyes but secretly lean into it. Vio would analyze it with mild amusement, and Green would try to keep things balanced.
Over time, Four gets used to their affectionate antics and even starts initiating hugs when he needs them.
-Warriors-
Warriors is used to being admired, but their sudden, intense displays of affection still catch him off guard.
The first time they squish his face and call him ‘the cutest knight ever~’ he’s rendered speechless. He tries to act suave, but his blush gives him away.
Of course, he’d joke about them being ‘overwhelmed by his dashing good looks.’ but secretly, it melts his heart.
Actually he’d be rather blushing when they gush over him when he charms a merchant or person who’s being difficult when they are asking around for info.
‘Look at that mischievous smile! Just look at it! I bet you didn’t even TRY to charm them! You just did!’
I mean, he’s used to compliments on his face but being complimented when he chooses to be mischievous? That’s definitely gonna make him blush!
Once, they bit his arm lightly out of sheer excitement, saying, “You’re just so perfect, it’s not faaair!” He stared at them for a long moment before grinning smugly. “Guess you can’t resist me, huh?”
-Wild-
Wild doesn’t even question their sudden outbursts of affection. When they call him cute while aggressively squishing his cheeks, he just smirks and says “I know.”
If they could, fhey’d tackle him midcooking, exclaiming “Look at you, being all talented and precious!”
….. But they won’t cause, ya know…cooking safety is important but they’d be vibrating in their seat waiting for him to step away from the cooking pot. After enough times of doing this, he’ll pretend to roll his eyes, hold out his arms and let them tackle him to the ground, but he secretly loves the attention.
If they bite his arm or shoulder in excitement, he’ll bite them back, laughing when they squawk in surprise. “What? You started it.”
If they’re relentless with their affection, he’ll eventually scoop them up and smother them with kisses until they’re the one flustered and speechless.
-Hyrule-
Hyrule would be so confused and flustered by their cuteness aggression at first. They squish his cheeks and call him “the most precious little hero.” and he just stammers, “Uh… thank..you?”
He’s not used to this kind of attention, so he’s shy and unsure of how to respond initially.
Once he warms up to it, he might start seeking out their affection, ya know like sitting closer or looking at them with expectation when he does something he think would impress them.
If they ever bite his arm or ruffle his hair in excitement, he’d laugh nervously and blush, but he wouldn’t push them away.
-Wind-
Wind would act like he hates it, but it’s all a front.
The moment they call him cute or squish his face, he yells, “Quit it!” while secretly loving every second of it. He’d huff, but then get pouty if they stopped.
If they give him surprise kisses, he’ll freeze for a second before trying to fluster them instead.
If they pinch his cheeks, though, he’ll definitely pinch theirs back, leading to a chase around camp filled with laughter.
At the end of the day, Wind casually leans against them, waiting for his squishes and kisses but he’ll ask like it’s his torture and be all huff and be like. “Alright, I’m here. Do your thing.’
Like any budding teen who pretends not to enjoy when they are given affection, he’ll accept his inevitable fate.
