Ok so update for everyone: last night was Wild, hahaa..

My Experience at the Pittsburgh Ritual

Gonna go ahead and put this under a read more as it might get long...

After the opening band (which they did fantastic!! Just not everyone's cup of tea. And that's okay!! The singer did make the microphone peak a few times, (it surprised me a few times) and they went on like...10 minutes early and ended early too, I'm not sure why they went on early?) the wonderful stage crew of Sleep Token worked to get the stage torn down and set back up for the boys.

There was one stage hand that brought out "The Mic Stand" and EVERYONE went wild and he just stood there, holding the stand for a good few seconds before walking off. It was hilarious.

I heard Sam testing out II's drums. You go Sam, pop off king.

More stage hands, more running wires. I applaud the stage hands, it was efficient, quick, a well oiled machine.

Steppy steppy Vessel time. It was a weird thing to see from the side angle I had, but I got the gist lol. II was swaying side to side on his platform.

The second part? The crowd? Singing along? Look. I know not everyone enjoys hearing the crowd singing along with the boys, I've seen the discourse. But it was so so cool to be a part of it, to hear it. To see the boys FEEDING OFF of the energy of the crowd and getting even MORE energized from it.

Karnak: An avatar of the end; An avatar of the web; An avatar of the eye, skipping all this cause Karnak’s would be super long!

Ocean: An avatar of the eye, some random teenage girl interning at the institute, everyone (especially Jon) kind of hates her and finds her to be a nuisance, there’s a twist and she turns out to be Mary Keay’s assistant, works HARD to become a favorite of the eye, abuses her omnipotent powers like crazy (usually just to show off), Gerry HATES her, Mary thinks she’s perfect and complains about how he “Could’ve been more like her; An avatar of the web, I don’t have much for this it just also made sense but I like the first one better-

Noel: An avatar of the desolation, doesn’t get involved in the Lightless Flame, just does his own thing, evil life destroying drag show; An avatar of the corruption, similar to Jane Prentiss but he is a minor in canon and I’m running with him being a minor so it’s more of a performance art experience that lures you in by being interesting, I feel like him and Prentiss are very close (she views him as her adopted son), drag show vibes either way, Basira and him get along oddly well, I feel like he gets an intern job working for the ghosty podcast so him and Georgie are buddies, Melanie and him have banter but not as much as him and Basira do, they’re the only ones who know they’re joking, everyone else thinks Basira and Noel hate eachother

Mischa: An avatar of the hunt, he’s part of a ridiculous SoundCloud rapper gang that consists of a bunch of other hunt avatars, you make fun of him for a bit and then him and his pack of buddies destroy you; An avatar of the desolation, he sort of accidentally wrecks the lives of tragic souls he hyper-fixates on, he doesn’t realize that the entity he works for is feeding on his pain as much as his victims, random but I feel like him and Tim are besties, he’s friends with Sasha too, after things don’t go well with Talia or they decide to be friends Sasha and Tim try to set him up with Noel, pummels the HECK out of NOT Sasha with Jane/Penny’s help

Ricky: An avatar of the spiral, he gets all creative and hypnotic with his wacky psychedelic cat visuals, Michael was afraid of him and so is Helen, he confuses you with sermons from the Bachelor Man Bible, Tim and him are best friends in both versions; An avatar of the vast, SPAAAACE, he terrorizes astronauts and Simon Fairchild is also afraid of him, him and Daisy are buddies and joke around about the dogs and cats stuff, Daisy carries him around a lot, Georgie is his friend and they learn ASL together, they find his cat stories very interesting

Jane/Penny: An avatar of the stranger, she canonically is beheaded and brought back as Jane Doe, she TERRIFIES everyone from her fear group, Jon pretends to be neutral her but he’s very attached and views her as his niece, can often be found watching National Geographic in the room Martin sleeps in for a hot sec (reciting facts, requesting to play dolls, just generally scaring him and the whole of the employees), the entire institute goes from being afraid of her to loving her over the course of the plot, quickly becomes the golden child of the Magnus institute as she’s not actually that harmful; An avatar of the spiral, Michael and Helen love her, confuzzles you with her weird decapitation tricks, animal facts, identity crisis hypnosis abilities, another interpretation could be actual Penny Lamb with spiral avatar traits and stuff

Constance: An avatar of the vast, CLOUD MAGIC, she definitely has a lil sugar cloud clump she floats on, spends a lot of her time just hanging upside down and doing silly little sky tricks, she for a while doesn’t realize that her spooking of human people is very harmful but after she does she gets a bit of a devious side, she has tea with Simon a LOT and they poke fun at each other for being a “Gen Z hormonal beast” and a “Silly old British man” but neither have the heart to get too mean, I have so much for the final few seasons with this one-; An avatar of the lonely, this one was too sad, I changed it so she’s still vast but she hangs around Martin in his lonely era and makes Blackwood (same last name) jokes, they poke fun at Peter for his multiple divorces with Elias, her and Martin have an adopted sibling relationship, she introduces Martin to the family before the world ends and they love him

anyways i really really loved sleep token like i genuinely think that their music is what i've been looking for for like the longest time !! so very excited about that. though i definitely will get to listening to all their music at some point, my favs of the ones you said were probably 'jaws' and 'dark signs' (i actually already listened to jaws earlier this week so i was happy u recommended it lol) but literally all the songs were amazing, like the vocals were absolutely heavenly, the instrumentals were amazing and i loved how natural and noticeable the drums were, like it wasnt in any way faded into the background, all the aspects were so sharp and i loved it, im also really big on lyrics and they were Great!! like i really love the themes they touch on and the way they do it. i also did go ahead and listen to the 'hypnosis' drum solo version and i LOVED it, ii is amazingly talented, its insane jdksjsjw (also can i just say i love how they called it 'an offering from ii' like just the whole vibe of sleep token is amazing), anyway i did listen to 'gods' and 'vore' too and though they were a little heavy i did like them and i really really honestly loved vore (and i had to think about the dark byler agenda bcs,,, cmon i HAD to)

hello !! hi !! sorry for taking days to reply, i've just been so excited to answer this that i kept it in my askbox to smile at it a bit longer, and then i kept getting distracted whilst replying x.x

anyway, the short answer is that i recommend their every song, but that's not particularly helpful so i instead made you a little list of songs that really showcase what they are about, roughly going from lightest to heaviest :]

(bonus: "gods" and "vore" are their heaviest songs by a mile, if you're interested in checking that style. they don't go there often though)

in terms of their albums, listening from the oldest to the newest might also be useful in terms of getting used to the heavier sounds they explore. "sundowning", for instance, is incredibly chill and relaxing (bar a couple songs) whereas the latest album, "take me back to eden". has the more nods to metal overall.

last, for some quick lore, the band's concept is that the lead singer once had a dream where he encountered an elder god called Sleep. the band's songs (tokens, as they call them) are thus made in worship to Sleep, and their message is meant to be interpreted however you, the listener, wish. that said, there are recurrent themes of toxic relationships, romantic trauma, unhealthy coping mechanisms and moving on.

as for their identities, the band are all anonymous —to keep the focus on the music as opposed to them— and therefore all wear masks, body paint and robes. for simple identification purposes, they are referred to by roman numerals:

i/vessel — lead singer and main songwriter, as well as pianist during concerts (rituals) and multi-instrumentalist in recordings;

ii — drummer and secondary songwriter;

iii — bassist;

iv — guitarist and sub vocalist (harsh vocals) when live.

they also have a choir of three "vesselettes" (term coined by fans) during each concert, who provide lovely harmonies and sub vocals.

- Aizawa is always run ragged and exhausted from both hero patrols and working as a UA teacher to around 20 super powered hormone filled teenagers.

- So it’s safe to say he is on the brink of sleep just about all the time.

- Sing him to sleep and he could sleep standing

- Not like he doesn’t already but that's besides the point.

- It’s almost like some sort of hypnosis for him, when you start singing he’s dead asleep and is basically impossible to wake up.

- Poor Mic actually thought he was dead once when he came over to your shared home to drop off some stuff. - Now he doesn’t really care what you sing, so if you’re a metal singer he’s chill - I mean, he’s used to sleeping in the middle of the day in an active classroom. - So it’s safe to say not much can phase and or wake him up from sleep. - So go ahead and scream your throat away, Aizawa will support by laying there like a corpse. - If you somehow manage to wake him up you will be attacked with at least 3 pillows. - He’ll try to send at least one cat after you but they’d just rub up on your legs. - So for your own sake of not getting pelted with pillows and getting cat soldiers getting sent to you try and be in a different room.

- Does this second generation sleepy boy like your singing? - Short answer, yes and no. - Shinsou is as blunt as a butter knife and as tired as a person that’s coming down from drinking a two liter of nothing but pure espresso. - So if you find yourself singing while Shinsou is trying to, or is taking a nap he can and will tell you to knock it off.  - Out of love, but still. - If he’s feeling nice he’ll silently hand you a glass of water or a snack you like to occupy you with something so he can get some shut eye while your getting sustained. - Drink your water kids or shinsou will be coming for your knees - Though if you just badger him enough to sing he’ll give in out of the lack of energy he has to care enough. - Afterwards he 100% will be better off. - It’s basically common understanding at this point that the little purple man gets no sleep, but, to try and sleep he puts on ambiance. - Just those like hour to two hour long videos on youtube of rain sounds or random soothing noises, so when he sleeps he’s used to having noise. - Because youtube is youtube, the occasional “siren” singing video pops up and he conks out so fast he doesn’t realize that it’s basically sleeping medication for him. - So when you start singing? - It doesn’t matter what or how you sing he is fucking out. - Halfway through whatever song your doing he’ll just be a dead weight in your arms. - Now if you’re metal singer?  - He’s just like his fannon/illegitimate father, 0 fucks to give he will sleep like a baby through it. - Idk runs in the blood I guess. - But on the non-sleeping side of things he actually does quite enjoy metal and or rock music. - Shinsou will turn into your 1# fan - Be expecting a noise complaint from every dude in the dorms because he will ask for you to sing to him at all hours of the day with 0 shame.

Bakugou Katsuki

- This asshole

- We all lovem, but this asshole.

- Trust me, he does actually enjoy your singing quite a bit. - You could sing about the entire wiki article on armadillos and he’d eat it up like some really good spicy noodles. - But that doesn’t mean he’ll act like like - Because no - He acts like it’s the possibly the most annoying thing known to man. - I may be over exaggerating a little but not by far.  - If you start to sing when both of your are alone things will be flung, pillows, blankets, plushies, anything soft to get you to make it look like to anyone else that he wants you to stop. - He doesn’t really want you to stop - But he has a tough guy personally to hold up here guys, let him have his pride. - During late nights though, all that drops. - All he wants to do is cuddle you closer then humanly possible. - He’s soft as those pillows you feel in stores but never buy. - If you really want him to be a puddle of big strong angry blonde man though? Lay him on your chest and sing. - He will become a big heap of puddy - Double trauma points if you headcanon he’s deaf/losing his hearing  - Bakugou’s 100% supportive of anything you sing. - Definitely your 1# hype man and if you sing in front of others he’ll be so proud - He is the type of guy to say “thats my partner” because he’s just so happy that your his. - If your a metal singer though?  - He’s 100% singing with you all the way - Bakugou’s vocal cords have been screeching like a banshee almost 2 quarters of his life, he’s practically trained for it. - Though he goes a little extra feral when he’s screaming lyrics or just straight up screaming with you. - So you guys just end up vibing while sounding like multiple felonies happening at once. - Even if you don’t sing metal/just straight scream, he’ll occasionally sing along with you. - His singing voice is a little crusty but beautiful, but he won’t sing loud for anything. - Try teasing him about it. - Trust me he loves you but at that point his explosions will be rated E for everyone - Including you.

hello! what have been some of your favorite scenes from hypno media, if it isn't too strange to ask? I've been revisiting some of the things that first got me into hypnosis and was curious about yours!

I've answered questions like this a few times before, but I'll go ahead and reiterate My stance for the sake of it:

Kaa's scenes in Jungle Book 1 + 2: Cliche as it is, these were the first movies where I vividly remember only watching them purely to get to the hypnosis scenes, and I would rewind the VHS tape multiple times to watch the scene over and over again. I'm not attracted to snakes or coiling or anything of the sort, but I always wanted to be in Kaa's position of power.

Pokemon: Nurse Joy's hypnotized voice and expression in the first Pokemon movie were just...That sure was something. Part of Me also really liked how Ash's mom looked when she was hypnotized in the third movie, even though hypnotizing her into thinking she's someone else's mom is definitely near the bottom in My list of turn-ons.

PowerPuff Girls: There was an episode where this zombie magician hypnotizes Blossom with a pocketwatch, and I had very vivid dreams of being the one hypnotizing her in an endless brainwashing loop after watching it. Since I was pretty young I wondered if it was a nightmare, but if it was...Why did it feel so good?

While the more jokey and gimmicky scenes still find ways to make Me tingle with that urge to be in control, I generally prefer scenes where it's more realistic or serious in nature. I like when the subjects are still presenting as themselves, but are just subservient to the new will they serve.

Quick first thoughts on the first ep of the Hypmic Anime. Spoilers beware (and im writing this as I watch so :p)

Otome’s speech is.... questionable from a persuasive point of view. Manga did a great job of introducing her (which you can read here) but they really cut out the more terrifying parts of her speech and how she uses force to show people that she's not to be messed with

Its cool seeing everyone in their respective environments though. thats cool. Though they could have added Sasara and Kuuko (shhh i know why they didn’t let me dream)

I love how poppy the typography is. Its amazing how the visuals just leap out at you. The OP does a great job of this. The first few seconds before the title really gives me Persona 4 OG OP vibes with the influx of information given. The rest is a clear concise and streamlined way that still gives character. Animation is sparse but still carries across a general idea of each character and shows off each character object. Rendering is really nice and pays a bit of homage to the posing artwork thats done for the MVs. They also do their division hand signals and thats cute

Love how the OP has blatant HifuDoppo and DRB matchup foreshadowing

so far I really like what theyre going for. BB is about brotherly familial bonds and they show the goods and the bads. Jiro and Saburo bickering right out the gate really cements the fact that they get along like cats and dogs but you can still see that they love each other, working together when the situation calls for it

Now the 3d models. Theyre... not great but usable if you don’t look too hard. They serve their purpose and don’t actively detract from the viewing experience.

Visual typography in the rap itself are fun and poppy but they dont.... speak to me? like theyre there yes and I appreciate them but the only ones that got me excited were from Ichiro’s rap

I love how they interpret the Hypnosis Speakers though. Esp. Saburo’s organs. That was super creative and I love it! If there was one thing that I felt was missing from the franchise was a deeper exploration of the speakers but the anime puts a new and fresh spin on it! Love it, especially with their attack patterns!

If the production team ever feels inclined to, Id love to see those info sheets on Otome’s desk released. There seems to be very interesting info and stats written out about each member (like capabilities, personal status etc.) They all seem unique too so I really really really hope they release images of those sheets

Rio striking out on his own is interesting. Out of everyone in MTC hes the biggest team player yet here he trusts his teammates to go ahead. This either displays Rio’s willingness to trust his teammates or it becomes very OOC if the anime wants to set him up as a lone wolf like character

I love how they specify its a drug deal. It means that Jyuto surely will show up and it also shows that Samatoki knows Jyuto’s motives and willingly gives black market info that he knows aligns with Jyuto’s goal. Thats A+ detail writing there and a great establishing characteristic for both of them

OOohhhhhhhhhhhhh man Asunama-san’s voice acting is god tier his work as Samatoki is phenomenal. He pulls of Samatoki’s threatening voice so well with those almost calm words before his voice becomes loud and confrontational. Those rolling syllables in contrast to Komada-san’s almost lyrical and airy speech and Kamio-san’s strict and enunciated words is such a delight to hear. It just speaks to how amazing and great these Seiyuu’s are in order to pull of such amazing work

Im so biased but MTC has such a better rap than BB im so sorry. Just by watching Samatoki’s part, the imagery is amazing. Even the arrival of his Hypnosis Speaker was awesome and sent a shiver down my spine. using the lyrics to form blades and blood was such a great thing to do. Theres so much more variety that just him standing there and shots of his hypnosis speaker. The old fashioned vignette shots, the four panel spread, the nods to old Kurosawa era films are great and I love these small details. Even the typography looks better.

Again, the interpretations with the speakers is fresh and new. Its great and I love the different imagery and attack patterns. Each one is so unique but carries across each different style of rap.

The 3d modles aren’t any better tho lol

(Hi this is Astro who is reading over their assessment again and making a note. Yeah I’m a bit harsh on BB’s rap. I’m not going to change it since I still stand by it and this post is supposed to be a documentation of my first impressions. I think one of the reasons why I’m so harsh on BB is because of their dynamic as a trio of brothers. They Have to have a more uniform approach than the other divisions. Which in of itself isn’t a terrible thing, it just doesn’t catch my eye as much as MTC did. Thats all! I definitely don’t hate BB, they’re maybe my 3rd favorite division out of the current lineup [not including TDD era teams like Kujaku Posse, MCD, and Naughty Busters] its just that their rap was pretty meh)

Samatoki crouching like a real gangstar and the cigarette kiss killed me

But also my initial assessment of Rio possibly being characterized as a lone wolf is very much jossed and im very thankful for that. It seems that Rio was simply trusting his teammates to carry out their part of the plan while he carried out his own. I like that, it really shows how much of a team these three are and that they genuinely trust each other. He’s also comfortable enough around them to invite them to dinners after work casually and not just for special occasions.

Oooh! we get Ramuda on his design process which is really cute. the inside of his studio is super cute and retro and i love it. the poppy old music you would hear in a cafe or 90′s resturaunt is also really cute (astro note: yeah i know that in ARB you see the interior of Ramuda’s office but its kinda different seeing it animated)

the translation i have has gentaro speaking in early modern english (Shakespearian english for those who aren’t english nerds like me) but from what I can hear, he doesn’t speak in a particularly old fashioned way? Its more formal than old? and hes speaking without any of his character persona lying thing that he likes to do (as he refers to himself as “Shousei” throughout the segment where hes in Ramuda’s office which is kind of his default pronoun of choice). so its kinda odd for the translation to go in that direction but im not complaining

Gendice banter is gold but it feels... flat? a little? it doesn’t have the same impact as in the drama cds or in the manga? i feel? Also Ramuda using gratuitous english is??? idk how to feel about that

kjshf thats against the rules Ramuda omgggg,,,,,,,, (astro note again: while watching i was under the assumption that using your hypmic for monetary gain such a as buskering [which is what FP is doing] is against the rules. May not be the case but whatever)

FP’s rap might be my favorite in terms of tune and lyrics though. It’s a nice laid back bop and really gives of chill vibes. the integration of 3d and 2d is really nice and i love how they play off each other in the rap. The wordplay is so fun with little nods here and there and the beat is poppy too so it really energizes me.

Ramuda’s rap concerns me slightly since he makes very subtle and small nods towards his past (being created in a laboratory, warfare, and his overall very unpleasant life experiences) but spins it into something cutesy. It could be a coping mechanism, it could be me overthinking it. But it does make me worry a bit. Gentaro and Dice’s rap really play off each other with Gentaro sticking to stories and Dice taking up the baton by carrying on that same imagery but putting his own spin on it.

the self awareness of how scattered they are as a team is interesting though. It doesn’t seem like something you’d speak about in a rap? but i guess since its not really a do or die situation they can afford to be looser on things like this.

Right off the bat, i don’t like how they handled Hifumi and Doppo in relation to Hifumi’s fear of women. Slug made a post once talking about this and I echo many of his sentiments. Hypmic has never been very tactful about tackling this particular issue and while I didn’t have high hopes that the anime would be any better it hurts to see Doppo take away the one thing that allows Hifumi to function within society.

Doppo’s breakdown mirrors a lot of my own mental state when I spiral though its shown a lot quicker than what happens to me oof. that hits close to home. though Jakurai’s advice is. Questionable. Its not the best advice to give to someone but we have no idea what kind of doctor Jakurai is so ill let it slide

I don’t have many thoughts about the rap though again. How they visualize the rap is interesting. the different imagery is quite interesting for each of them and the typography is nice a distinct but im still on the fence about the visuals here

The sound is in the same boat. The sound effects either drown out the rap or are too quet but some parts are nice at least. When they talk about Tokyo’s beating heart, the heartbeat sound is a but distracting especially since its only played once. But the imagery is at least nice

I wonder if for the eds they’re going to take a similar approach to what Enstars did and have a four different endings, one for each division. I love the blend of styles here and it really accentuates that although they’re different they mesh well together.

Ramuda’s silhouette though is hilarious. Love it.

:p and thats it. Uh not bad for a first episode. Established all 12 characters really nicely and their dynamics. I had some problems with it but then again nothing is perfect. I look forward to what they show us next week

Somewhat spoilers ahead about that BB drama track (and a bit of the DH one):

All aside from the obvious “where we left off” from the Before the 2ndDRB track... at least they didn’t drag that cliffhanger for too long (regardless of what you think about “dragging” with current IRL circumstances... had to remind myself that this was hannging off since Dec 2019). “Re:Start” kinda gave the vibes of both Jiro and Saburo “growing up”.

I wasn’t fond of the idea of Saburo (or Jiro) betraying his brothers becaue he had to “grow” and be stronger. Saburo knows that Rei is still quite sketchy regardless his true intentions (ticking them off to “grow up”?). Whatever they are, of course. But both Saburo and Jiro know it is not good relying forever in their older brother, either, or putting him in a pedestal.

I mean... I guess I have some vibes that he told partly why he did stuff the way he did in the past (pre-TDD)... but they opted to idolize him because... well, they are kids. They are still young in the current timeline, too. And Ichiro is still young, as well. But at least, I guess they reacted the way they had to do with how events presented when Rei basically went in to be “papa’s home” mode.

Ichiro knows his brothers aren’t mere children anymore. And I liked the way he handled in telling them how the things actually were. Still somewhat mysterious loose ends on that regards... As in we still don’t know why he and Rei potentially strangled their relationship right off the start? But I do believe the thing about his mother didn’t help much later... also, the BTB manga suggested that the Yamada siblings have been on orphanages/under others care since Ichiro was merely a teenager (14?)... and while I know “shonen protagonist syndrome” is a thing... how young was he when he decided to put a foot on not seeing Rei as his dad? 12? 13? his “parental figure” issues are clear as water in that extra story in vol 2... so...

Regarding Rei and his antagonistic nature... in some... weird sense... I kinda understand why he provoked Jiro and Saburo to not see their older brother as an “idol”, because as they grow up... he knows they cannot rely on him alone. At the end of the day, they all are still his sons. I guess he can see them having “potential”... but he is their father, too. Maybe deeply inside he regrets putting such a weight of responsibility on Ichiro. Maybe. That’s still part of the mystery about his intentions regarding them and his antognistic nature as a character.

The mention about Mrs. Yamada is another ingredient that fuels that mystery, as I mentioned above. I think both Rei and Ichiro saw her in a greater light... I guess the war on the hpmi world didn’t help this family at all. For all we know, Rei might have been too involved in his military-tech work and maybe he regrets not being there for his family -i.e. hence Jiro and Saburo’s scars, why Ichiro strangled their relationship... and whatever might have happened to Mrs. Yamada (or this could take a VERY darker tone... science-related speaking, perhaps? WWIII-perhaps?). I want to believe he wasn’t lying (in the DH side drama track) about he used to look up a “close figure to him but is not longer in that world”. I want to believe that figure or person was his wife. Whatever happened to her.

Narratively speaking, I want to believe Rei is one of those cases where “you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain”. And perhaps he is way too aware of that. His antagonistic nature and his reasoning to be an ally of Party of Words... or perhaps he has an agenda of his own... I MEAN, he did develop the hypnosis microphones (STILL a weapon that causes harm) and as far as we are aware, he had some kind of role in creating the Ramuda clones. But how much of his “loyalty” towards them is quite true? How much is a lie? What is he gaining from all of this? Etc. ,etc. I’m not saying he is the “best dad in the world” (he is tons of miles away from it, lmao) but I’m also not saying “he is truly evil” either.
