Kdrama script idea : Episode 3 - 4

The next day, Ja Yeon is ready to book a flight to Great Britain, she gets some of her important stuff from her assistants and bids them a teary goodbye, and a heartfelt thanks to Ae Kyung and the girls. She tells them to giev Ae Kyung double her monthly income, the girls some of her handbags and jewellery, and that her clothes should be redistributed to second hand shops. She steps into the Taxi, and on the way to the airport, hears on the radio that the "Shin Ja Yeon dissapearing case" is now a nationwide search. It seems like the assistants ddin't realise that Seung Ho would use all forces to find her, and the car that was floating in the Han River was found empty, and the investigation changed into a kidnapping investigation. Her photo is now published everywhere as she is a missing person. Ja Yeon knows that even if she goes into witness protection, her husband will find her due to his connections to the police and law. She knows his anger and will to kill her knows no bounds.

Panicking, Ja Yeon phones Ae Kyung, who is also following the news. Unable to see a way to get out of the country without being turned in to the police, she asks if she can come back to the house.

Ae Kyung thinks for a second, because this means she is also on Seung Ho's hit list once he finds out where Ja Yeon is. She tells Ja Yeon she can stay in the house as long as she pays the rent and is ready to share a room. Yu Jin and Julie aren't really enthusiastic, but Meera, who handled Ja Yeon's panic attack, agrees to share the room with her. Ja Yeon turns around and goes back to Ae Kyung's house. Her assistants keep phoning her to tell her to not go outside and not contact anyone new who would snitch on her. She needs to stay put until they find a way to smuggle her out of the country or they find a better way to put her out of Seung Ho's mind.

The girls welcome Ja Yeon back into the house, but unbeknownst to them, the mysterious man from the top floor is also watching from his porch. Meera catches a glimpse of his face, thus confirming that someone indeed lives there. While Ae Kyung and Julie take care of Ja Yeon, Meera shares this with Yu Jin. They are now sure a man lives in the place where Min Soo Ji lived, but they decide to tell Ae kyung later on after the whole Ja Yeon fiasco calms down.

Ja Yeon moves into Meera's room, and they start talking a little with each other. Ja Yeon, still having trust issues, does not really know how to reciprocate Meera's openness and kindness, but secretly plans on leaving her physical gifts such as luxury makeup, bags, jewellery and gift cards.

Yu Jin meanwhile gets an offer from a modeling agency named Seong Hwa Models to join their roster after seeing her pictures on Instagram. Being a very reputable agency headed by Ji Seong Hwa (Kim So Yeon), a Miss Korea winner and model, Yu Jin is excited and shares this. Ja Yeon also adds that she has seen Seong Hwa in real life and that she is a very kind person. The women are overjoyed, and Ae Kyung tells Ja Yeon that now that the girls and her are in charge of hiding her, she has a responsibility to help them not just with her money but also to guide them in the society they're about to enter.

The episode ends with the girls eating dinner and Meera barricading the window of her room. Ae Kyung asks her why she is doing that, given that she chose the room because of the window, and Meera replies that Ja Yeon's safety is worth giving up a little of her freedom for.

Eun Dan Oh: Changing Her Fate

“I just want to live my own life. I want to live as the Eun Dan Oh who says and does what she wants. (...) Let’s change our fate together.”

She was supposed to die

There is much to say about Eun Dan Oh, but there are two things I want to discuss first. Number one, I feel strongly that she was not supposed to live till the end, and that there could be no other protagonist of the show other than her.

To start the first one off, here is the character sheet for ‘Secret’.

Here, Eun Dan Oh is right down in the really extra characters, whereas Kim Ae-Il is actually right beside Baek Kyung. In contrast to this, over the course of the story, Dan Oh gets a lot of screen time (page time?), with her heart disease, Bake Kyung’s changed feelings towards her, the healing of her heart, and the ‘happy ending’ for them, whereas Kim Ae-Il barely has any lines at all.

This means that Dan Oh, by constantly changing the stage and bringing herself to the author’s attention, added to her importance in the story. It is possible that Baek Kyung’s changed feelings in the shadow also impacted the stage.

Secondly, is this line by Dried Squid Fairy. When Lee Do Hwa asks him if its possible that Eun Dan Oh might die.

“It is only possible because she is an extra.”

This hints at the fact that if she become more important to the plot, i.e. not just an underdeveloped extra, she might live. Now as we know, by changing the stage constantly, and sometimes becoming a part of them, she became more important to the plot. If she had not, she’d have still been an extra, and possibly died.

My third argument is the storyboard that Eun Dan Oh sees of her surgery before she dies. The doctor shouts out her name in despair, a teardrop falls from her eye, and most importantly-- she visibly flatlines in the storyboard.

When Haru switches the medical papers, this surgery goes to Ju Da’s grandmother-- as per what we already know, she must now technically face the same fate as Dan Oh in the storyboard.

That however, does not happen. When both Lee Do Hwa and Oh Nam Ju talk about the surgery, they express that the surgery went ‘well’. Of course, flatlining during a surgery is not great, and definitely causes complications, so the fact that Ju Da’s grandmother doesn’t face much means that not only were the roles switched like they are every time, but the basic story in itself changed.

It makes a lot of sense to me that initially Eun Dan Oh was destined to die. She would be an extra that could be killed off without much pain to the readers, but the incomplete love story between her and Baek Kyung would force the readers to now look for, and root for, a reciprocated one-- Nam Joo and Ju Da. This trope (unfinished love story of the second or third leads) is often used in romances and many k-dramas, and it makes sense that this is what the author wanted to do.

However, Eun Dan Oh becomes more than just a love-bridge, and forces her way into making more and more pages for herself, allowing her character to develop fully.

Her Philosophy

The second thing I wanted to talk about is her way of looking at things, and why it means she is the only person who could have been the protagonist of Extraordinary You.

"Because my life belongs to me.”

This is one of the first things that Dan Oh says when she finds out she’s a comic character. In fact she also says something similar later on when she loses her self-awareness. Even in that state, Eun Dan Oh is adamant on writing her own story. It is this persistent need that pushes her and all the other characters to change the stage. She is the one who pushes Do Hwa to go to Ju Da, and the one who pushes Baek Kyung to find his real self too.

“I’m going to change it (the stage) until the end.”

Like Soo Hyang had said before, people’s version of happiness or fate is different for everyone. While Ju Da thinks she’ll be happier following the fate of her character, it is only Eun Dan Oh who is confident that a happy ending is one which she writes on her own. She believes that changing the stage i.e. taking the narrative of the story under her control, and rebelling from the writer is the most significant thing to do. While other characters eventually cave in to the author, it is Dan Oh who rises time and again to change the stage.

"I chose to like Haru and I choose to change the stage.”

One of her most powerful beliefs is the faith she has in the power of choice. It is what helps her overcome the fear of the previous novel, and of dying-- that, in the shadow the actions and feelings and motivations she has are the real ones, because she chooses to have them everyday. It also helps her deal with the consequences of her actions-- that they’re due to the choices she made, rather than the ones that were thrust upon her.

“They all have their stories, and the things that are precious to them, but they have no choice but to do whatever the writer wants.”

In the world of comics, everyone has their designated positions. There’s the male lead, the female lead, supporting roles, and extras. The time you get, the character depth you have all depends upon this hierarchy. Eun Dan Oh is the one who discards this completely, treating each person, not as their role, but as real people. “In Eun Dan Oh’s world, you (Haru) are the male lead.” Her wish of being more than an extra is not to be the main character in the author’s story, but to get more depth and justice to her personality and character.

“They are cliches, but we’re the only ones who know how cruel and sad this is. Because we’re just Dan Oh and Baek Kyung before our characters.The Dan Oh of ‘Secret’ wants to thank you, and the Dan Oh of ‘Trumpet Creeper’ forgives you.”

Eun Dan Oh, by viewing characters as people first, puts into motion the thought process that finally ends the cycle of pain and hatred among everyone. She forgives him for killing her, Jimichi Fairy forgives him for killing his lover, Baek Joon-Hyun lets go of Trumpet Creeper too. This lets the characters let themself develop into breathing beings, instead of just their roles, and break free from the author’s constraints.

My favourite of course, is her take on why they keep on repeating lines, which I’ve spoken about in the post about the Trumpet Creeper here.

Eun Dan Oh is one of the most incredible characters, for her determination, persistence, and her way of thinking. She emodies the butterfly, the smallest flutter of whose wings brings about the biggest typhoons.

Pickles at Midnight or How I Spend My Day "Writing" (originally written November, 2012)

I get up late-ish. I eat, shower, dress. I open my laptop and power it on. (Meanwhile, downstairs, people are moving and talking and getting stuff done.) Shivers make me put on a hoodie. No socks; I put on socks. Laptop on, I open OneNote and stare at what I'd written the past night. (Inside I groan a little because it's not perfect and it needs to be perfect if I'm going to move on.) Dog comes in, lies down. Cat comes in, dog growls, cat leaves.(I've given up trying to make the animals stay away.) I place my fingers on the keyboard and type words on the screen. And then backspace them, because they're not perfect. I yawn and check Youtube. I open a new tab and select Facebook. After a minute of checking notifications, I close the tab and close the window and go back to my imperfect story (that I seem to have been writing for a very long time.) Why does it take so long to make things perfect?

People downstairs are eating lunch. I got up late, ate late breakfast. I don't eat lunch. Mid-afternoon, what have I written? Some comments on various sites, and my story is still imperfect. Visions of me sitting in a drafty attic wrapped in a patchwork quilt in front of a typewriter come to mind. "If I can just finish this revision, maybe my story will sell and then I can buy food!" My future as a poor, starving artist is looking very probable. Youtube keeps me occupied while my characters fight each other with wooden swords and frying pans in my head and the villain argues with the protagonist about their questionable lack of back story.

At five o'clock my dad checks on me. "You writing?" I pause my music (Skyward Sword soundtrack) and look at my pitiful work. "I'm writing." (I'm trying, really.)

Dinner time. I venture downstairs into the quieter house. Yummy food makes me think. After washing the dishes and thinking I wander slowly back up to my room and burrow under my laptop again, fresh ideas ready to pose as coherent sentences for my story. Maybe they get written. They're definitely imperfect. I leave them be. I do stuff until 11:00, including writing miscellaneous snatches of poetry and stories about drunkards and other things I know nothing about.

When the hall light goes off and I hear my parents' bedroom door close that's when my brain decides to switch on - at 12:03. Then my stomach rumbles, like it seems to do every time I think about going to bed. Some nights I stay up, doing stuff, some nights I go to bed, (not necessarily to sleep.) Some nights I haul myself out of my chair and downstairs because I am hungry and feel like doing something about it. Choice midnight snack: pickles. If there are no pickles then I might eat some kind of chip or cookie, but I'd prefer pickles - not because they fill me up, but because that's what I like to eat at midnight.

Then I go to bed and dream about what I haven't written and wake up at 2:36am and wish I had.

It was 9 PM and you couldnt sleep.Every Position you tried was uncomfortable.You let out a frustrated sight “Argh...Why cant I find a comfortable position to sleep”

You looked at your phone and saw a text from Jimin saying that he will be home in 5 minutes,you let out a sight in relive.Jimin alway know how to help you sleep.You sat up in the bed and just chatted with your friends until you heard the door open.”Jagi I am home” You put your phone down”I am in our bedroom Chim” He walked inside The room opening his arms “Hey Jagi I missed you and Kwang-Dae“You smiled hearing your sons name.

His name always put a smile on your Face,and it sounds even better when JImin says it.”Chim you need to help me and Kwang-Dae sleep again...mostly me since he is already asleep...I think” Jimin smiles “Okey Baby wait a few seconds I have to go take a shower and change then I will sing for you ”

It always helped hen Jimin sings you a song his voice was so beautiful.You waited for 15 Minutes and the Jimin came out and crawled into the Bed you lay your head on his shoulder and your legs where tangled together his one hand in your hair an the other one on your Bump.

He began to sing Stray Gold and you intimidatingly relaxed as you where about to fall asleep you feel a Kick you whined “Nuuuuu not now Kwang-Dae Mommy was about fall asleep” Jimin smiled and began to rub your Bump and lays his head over your Bump an began to sing again.Kwang-Dae seems to calm down and 2 Minutes later you where asleep.Jimin smiled and kissed your bump and then your Cheeks.

"Baby” Taehyung calls you.You where at the Baby Shop.Buying a few things lice pacifier and an other Baby Blanked.Tae came back with a tiger plushy and you had a Giraffe plushy in your hand “Baby look at this cute Tiger plushy”

You looked at it and then at the lion in your hand “But TaeTae I think the Lion is cuter” taehyung thought a moment why dont we let Mi-Cha choose?” You nod “okay”You gave Tea the Lion.

He kneels down in front of you “Hey Munchkin Here is your Daddy...Daddy wants to buy you a Tiger plushy but Mommy wants to buy you a Lion so kick on the left for the lion and on the right side for the tiger”

You waited a few seconds and then you felt a kick on the Right side “Yes god decision Munchkin” taehyung gave you the lion and you sight and put it away “Aww Sweetheart dont be sad” You sight “I am not sad Tae” He kissed your lips.

“Now lets go and pay my feet begin to hurt and your Munchkin and me are getting Hungry” Taehyung gave you a Boxy smile “Okay Jagi”

You looked down at your Bump “And this time you are on my side Mi-Cha“ Tae chuckles at you.

You came up with the Idea to take every Week a picture of you two in front of the big mirror so that at the end you have Book you can show your son/daughter when she is olden and because its cute Idea.

Jungkook comes into the room with the camera in his hands“are you ready Baby” You nod  “yes lets take an other cute picture of us three” You smile and look down at your Bump.

Jungkook smiles and Kiss you lips passionately you kissed him back his hands on your Baby Bump,Until you felt a kick on your left side.Jungkook pulled away and crunched down to you Bump “Hey Bun...Daddy loves you but this is the wrong moment to play” You giggle at him.

You grab the Camera from the bed and Took a picture.Jungkook heard a *klick* sound and Got up “Did you took a picture?” You nod “I am sorry I just couldnt resist,you looked so cute.

TAG GAME: 5 (MALE) BL CHARACTERS I LOVE

These games are fun but also TORTUUUUURE HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO PICK????? Watch me spectacularly fail lmao. So in no particular order:

1) Type from TharnType - listen listen this kitten with claws OWNS my fucking heart in a way that few other characters have managed to do. The backstory and development of his relationship with Tharn and most of all THE MOTHERFUCKING AMAZING CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IT IS SUBLIME ok ok, I am calm. I can talk about this calmly like a normal person (my other brain cell @graveformydarling​ tell the people I’m not a crazy person) - but seriously though, like Type starts out as this deeply hurt and traumatized young man who lashes out at people whether they deserve it or not because of everything he’s been through that he never really got the help he needed to overcome. He’s been living for years with this one idea that was stuck in his mind that gay people = bad and hurt and the moment he finds out Tharn is gay, the flood gates are opened and set into motion Type’s future development. And it’s through the course of the show that Type learns and grows and heals (not completely, never completely because that’s something that’s going to stay with him for the rest of his life) so that in the last episode he has become someone who is open and proud and happy about his relationship with another man; someone who wont even lie to his father about it because he’s not ashamed of what he has with Tharn; and someone who looking back on himself has realised the way he’s acted and the way he’s treated the people around him, his best friend most of all, is not acceptable and tries to make amends for it, apologizes to Kom and admits he still has a lot to learn but he’s trying to do the right thing now. This is what well-done character development looks like, friends, THIS RIGHT HERE AND I JUST LOVE HIM A LOT OK

2) Fighter from WhyRU - MY BIGGEST SUBBY BABY BOY I WILL DIE FOR HIM AND SO WILL TUTOR; he’s just so... precious 😭 he’s so scared of the feelings he has but so in love with Tutor from the moment he saw him and and how much he WANTED but didn’t think he was allowed to have it and then the whole thing with his father and Hwa - gaaah I felt so much for him; the way he adores Tutor and how much he cares about everything Tutor wants and will make him happy; his SMILES GOD THE WAY FIGHTER RUINS ME WITH A SINGLE SMILE; the way he SMILED even through the pain of his heartbreak because he didnt want to upset Tutor any more; and THEN as if that wasnt enough seeing him so completely broken, on his knees BEGGING for Tutor to take him back I’m just I’M JUST NOT OK 😭😭😭😭 Special shout out to the morning after scene and Fighter’s “sometimes I want to be babied” I ASCENDED TO ANOTHER REAL OF EXISTENCE THANKS TO THAT SCENE

3) Sarawat from 2gether - listen ok, Sarawat isnt Boyfriend Material - he’s what Boyfriend Material is made of; him and Dean are setting the bar so damn high at this point, you’d have to be able to fly to reach it; and I AM HERE FOR IT; my favourite thing about Wat aside from all the obvious has to be the contast of who he seems to be on the outside - or more specifically who Tine sees him as - and who he really is; our first impression of Wat is as this cool distant flirty guy who does whatever he wants and gives no shit about anyone or anything, but THEN as we get to know him, as the layers are peeled off him we see the inside of him and HE’S A MARSHMALLOW A SOFT CUDDLY desperate for his boyfriend’s cock MARSHMALLOW; he’s sweet and cute and insecure just like Tine is and he’s just spent over a year in love with a boy he was desperately trying to find but couldn’t only for that same boy to literally run up to him out of nowhere and then their story gets going and Sarawat spends ALL his time trying again and again AND AGAIN to be everything Tine wants, to show him how deep, how true his feelings are, to make Tine love him the way he loves Tine and I’m just TOO DAMN EMOTIONAL OVER IT OK 2gether be ruining my emotions since day 1 (and now there’s FIVE MORE EPISODE COMING DO YOU HEAR ME SCREAMING)

4) DeanPharm from UWMA - I’m sorry but I cant seperate them, that’s illegal; my boys 😭😭😭 soulmate trope + past lives trope = me getting punched in the feels and this show DID NOT DISAPPOINT; UWMA’s like one of my all time favourite shows now, I love everything about it and DeanPharm just stole my goddamn heart and never gave it back; I love their relationship development like even though they are soulmates and the writers could have used that as an excuse to fast forward EVERYTHING, they still took their time, the characters got to know each other, to realise what their feelings meant and in the end CHOSE each other, irrelevant of any past lives or destiny because their love was REAL and it was THEM and I’m crying again. Also on a more shallow note but that size difference between them is just *chef’s kiss* the way Dean ENVELOPS Pharm COMPLETELY in his arms like he’s going to keep him right there safe and warm from the rest of the world just... does things to me.

5) Ae from Love By Chance - you may have noticed but I have a thing for protective/possessive boyfriends and Ae just ticks off my boxes just right; I love the way he ALWAYS takes care of Pete, the utterly gentle way he handles touching him and talking to him and the absolutely HOT AS FUCK way he loses all that self control when his desire for Pete takes over. The way he comforts Pete when he’s fillwed with self-hatred and doubt and tries to push Ae away because of course, it would be easier for Ae to date a girl but Ae doesnt want easy, he wants Pete and everything that comes with that.

And there you have it, my favourite BL boys; as usual this got hella long but this is what happens when you get me going about my faves. I’m the worst at tagging so whoever wants to do this, please feel free!

Alternate ending to Mr Sunshine

KES built a fantastic world, in a fascinating period, full of fvcking beautiful characters. And I’m so thankful for this drama. 

But you know what? She killed all my faves. Now normally I have no problem with character deaths because narratively, they can be very powerful; like how Gunner Jang’s story came full circle, trusting that Ae Shin, and soldier boy, will carry on and lead the fight. However, there is something frustrating, and quite frankly, deceitful, about the way each of our four main characters were killed off. I understand how we got to each point but I still feel cheated. No matter how neatly the story lines were tied up, I would think most readers/viewers don’t want to get to the end of a story and see their heroes die. 

So here’s how I would have rewritten the finale BUT still maintain the glorious and hopeful ending KES envisioned in which our mains pass on the mantel to the next generation with AE SHIN at the forefront. 

Let’s start with our QUEEN HINA. The hotel still blows up. No matter what, I strongly believe that needs to happen. It’s the removal of their last bastion. But this time, they plan it a LOT BETTER. The day the military academy is attacked, Hina is out there in the streets shooting up the Japanese troops like a BOSS. As she heads home, she spies a familiar body among the dead. It’s Guidan. She feels a pang of regret. After all, they were close for a time, even with the betrayal. And no one deserves to die on the streets. Hina starts to turn away but then she gets an idea. 

She hires a rickshaw driver to take Guidan’s body and heads to the pawn shop to buy explosives. As she leaves, Ae Shin drops down from the rooftop. She’d overheard Hina’s request and offers to help. With both their mighty brains at work, they manage to get all the troops good and wasted and the employees far away with enough time for BOTH OF THEM to make a run for it. The hotel explodes in flames. Several bodies are found the next morning, including an unidentifiable woman’s corpse in what used to be the hotel owner’s room. The only thing they could make out were the red shoes on the corpse, tailor made for Kudo Hina just a week before the explosion. 

The chief of police is still a spineless, incompetent weasel so he accepts the corpse as Kudo Hina. The king still receives Hina’s letter from Sumi. And so “Kudo Hina” still takes the blame for attacking the Japanese troops and her name is dragged through the mud. Meanwhile, “Lee Yang Hwa” is long gone. AS put her in contact with some RA members heading east, towards the coast. There she adopts a new name, Mae Hwa. She purchases a humble home for herself and spends her time at the orphanage across town. Her home becomes an occasional base for RA members laying low in between missions or waiting for the next boat out of Joseon. It’s a modest life. She makes jewelry and paints, and sells them on the side. She never does meet a nice man. But she’s often visited by a surly looking pirate wearing dark robes with flowing sleeves. 

DONG MAE: He stops being so damn ready to die. After he saves AS in Japan, she still tells him to be back in Joseon in three months to receive the money from her. DM still says “And just like that you give me hope,” but get this - HE DOESNT LOOK FREAKING MISERABLE AT THE THOUGHT. And when Ae Shin leaves with the court ladies, he DOESNT walk in plain sight on the beach for all to see/capture. Instead, he goes back to the shadows. It’s easier than he thought. But rather than making him feel like this is where he belongs, it makes him realize just how far he’s come. He can adapt to this world but it does not define him. He lives pitifully for a while. The Mushin Society is still after him so he can’t do much in the open. But he has some allies here who still owe him a favor. They’re able to get him out of Japan via boat. Though the ride is more miserable than when he first traveled to Japan. 

He arrives in Jemulpo’s harbor. Beaten, hungry, and pale...but alive. He makes his way to the temple. He’s not sure why. Just a feeling. The same badass nun is there but she receives him warmly this time. AS told her what DM had done for the rebels and so the nun allows DM to recuperate there. They explain his presence as a monk in training. He adopts the name Haneul. 

AS drops in one day with a letter from Manchuria. Yujo and Hotaru are doing well. They started a little tea shop where Hotaru reads tarot cards for customers. The shop does really well but with 20 mouths to feed, they had to find other jobs for the boys. Most of them found honest work in farming, fishing, mining. A few started up a collection agency. They send him good fortune and a wish to see him again some day. DM smiles before burning the letter. Knowing they are safe eases the burden on his heart. 

By day, he helps lead visitors across the temple grounds, preserving the last remnants of Joseon Buddhist culture. By night, he helps to train new RA members in the cover of the forest. It started with a request from AS. She wanted to learn how to handle knives and swords, in case she ever found herself without a gun. She was good. But DM was still better. And AS knew him well enough at this point to know that he would need a purpose, to keep him going. So she asks him to train the new recruits. And whaddaya know? Within months, they see better success rates on their missions and raids.

HEE SUNG lives. PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION. 

When the hotel blows up, and he thinks he lost his friend HINA on top of everything else, he’s devastated. But it just makes him more determined to expose the Japanese’ cruelty. He’s brought in to the police station for questioning. He’s beaten up real bad but makes it out alive with a major bribe from dad. SEAMSTRESS and mom fuss over him till he recovers. Then, he sets out again to uncover the truth, but this time it puts his family in danger. And it scares him enough to consider stopping. But he knows his soul would never be able to bear the guilt if he turned away now. 

So he becomes smarter about his printings. Thankfully, both the chief of police and the Japanese minister who were catching on to him end up dead. The first was rumored to be murdered by a dark shadow reeking of incense and dirt. The second was shot from across the market square by some masked figure, leaping from rooftop to rooftop. Free of suspicions now, HS goes back to playing the rich noble fool by day. While he and FEMALE JOURNALIST (cause KES can’t be bothered to give her side characters some names???) operate an underground printing press. HS makes extra copies of everything. Burying it in multiple locations so that their history and deeds are never forgotten. 

When AS comes to him asking for funds to purchase train tickets or gun powder and bullets, he gives it to her, no questions asked. Coincidentally, these funds come from the Japanese government; rent money on the multiple properties the Residency General leased out from the Kim family. 

He never quite falls for the SEAMSTRESS and she understands that his affection for her is just that. She’s grateful that he’s extended his protection to her family and works with him to collect evidence of the rebels and the Joseon people and their fight against Japan. But the little brother really grows on him. He convinces his parents to adopt him as a Kim, to have him be the one to carry on the family name. The ticking clock still haunts him. He’s not sure the Kim blood should be passed on. But if the Kim name can save just one more person, he’ll suffer as many tick ticks as it takes. 

Eventually, he and Mae Hwa are reunited. He bursts into tears and she apologizes for not being able to tell him the plan. He kisses her in relief and thanks her for staying alive. They share a smoke and talk about the good old days. They wonder about their favorite swordsman and that annoying foreigner. They talk about all the trouble blackbird has been up to. And make plans to meet up, another day, in the far future, for pool and drinks. It takes some time for this to happen again. But when it does, the swordsman, the American, and the blackbird are there too. HS kisses DM/Haneul just because and hugs AS tightly. EG gets a pat on the back. And that’s when he suggests a photo, to commemorate this moment, CAUSE NEVER BEFORE HAVE THEY CONVERGED IN ONE SPOT BEFORE. 

EUGENE...He spends some time following around the RA, protecting AS on and between missions. But he sticks out like a sore thumb despite his best efforts and is forced to go into hiding numerous times. Eventually, he has to call on Kyle to get him out of Joseon. His face was exposed on a mission and since he was dishonorably discharged, he can’t call on the embassy for help. He ends up back in America and runs into Ahn Chang Ho again. EG makes use of his old military connections and language skills to spread word of Joseon’s struggle. They make it back to Joseon a couple more times but never for very long as they both become very high profile activists. 

AE SHIN: Girl keeps doing what she doing and kicking ass. She becomes a little bit of her grandfather, Gunner Jang, Miss Haman and Mr. Hangrang to the next generation; receiving the occasional support from her original friends and allies, OUR VERY-MUCH-ALIVE HEROES. Those brief moments when they get to see each other again are bittersweet cause they never know when the next time will be or who will make it to that date. But they’ve each proven themselves to be FIGHTERS. And though they don’t know what the future holds, they leave each meeting a little more hopeful, till the next SEE YOU AGAIN.

If you want to call me by name, I usually get called "Sea" on the internet after my reddit username. I am a 04-liner, and born in Germany. I might sometimes post some german 8090s stuff, but I'll make sure to keep it a minimum. I am an oldie through and through - but only when it comes to popular culture! I do keep up with modern pop culture too, btw.

My favourite Korean singers from the 8090s are Lee Ji Yeon, Kang Susie, Yang Soo Kyung, Kim Wan Sun, Kim Hye Rim, and a lot more. My first love were actually 1st gen K-pop idols - S.E.S., Fin.K.L., Baby V.O.X. and CSJH The Grace are still my all-time favourite girl groups. You can talk to me about any generation of Kpop!

I also LOVE to talk about actors and actresses! I think the ratio of actors to singers might even be 70:30. In the 8090s, actors (especially TV actors) were called "talents", with the term "actor" being reserved for movie actors. So that's how I call them on this blog too, for historical accuracy. I just love their fashion, their attitude and their, well, talent.

My favourite female talents are (among others) Chae Shi Ra, Go Hyun Jung, Ha Hee Ra, Jeon In Hwa, Oh Yeon Soo and Shin Ae Ra. Among the male talents, I like Choi Min Soo, Han Seok Kyu and Cha In Pyo. I really do like more female talents than male ones

I also like to post japanese 8090s idols on here quite a lost. My faves are Moritaka Chisato, Okada Yukiko, Matsuda Seiko, Nakamori Akina and Kudo Shizuka.

Gun, Glory, Sad Ending.

Mr. Sunshine has come to an end. And I'm still stuck to that finale.

It felt like a long journey. The story was so dynamic, especially in the second part of the drama. I must say it was such a good work, both in the plot and the cinematography part. Sometimes it was like watching a movie. And the actors, of course, they were superb. Each character was so specific and different from others. Hina/Yang Hwa was lovely yet pitiful. Kim Min Jung really did a great job with her acting skills. Her character was so charismatic and interesting! Also her relationship with Dong Mae was very beautiful. Yoo Yeon Seok really surprised me this time with his character. Dong Mae was just a cute puppy who had eyes only for one woman, I mean he randomly killed people but still, such a cute puppy... Kim Hui Seong instead, he seemed like the bad guy/rival to the main couple's love, but we soon learned to love him and his stunning smile. He is funny, handsome, a poet, in love with life and forever friendzoned by his fiancee. I think he was my favourite character. He just fell in love with a woman and became best friends with his rivals. Yes, when you think about it, the three of them were rivals in love, but still good drink buddies and eventually comrades. This is something many dramas nowadays don't have. But let's talk about Eugene. The great and noble one (sounds like Goblin right?) Eugene, his character lived and died for love. We can see how his character develops from the first part of the drama to the finale. He just wanted to live his love story. Everything he did was for her. I liked many of his lines, such as "Protect your country, I will protect you". And finally, the most loved woman, Ae Shin. I liked her character because she was a fighter, a strong woman who disguised herself to protect her beloved country and its people. She fell in love with Eugene but we know that her country was at first place for her, and I liked this. She was the center of the story and the common point for every character.

A very well done story for me, despite the sad ending. Just one thing: I wished to see more scenes between Hui Seong and Ae Shin.

Also, this is not so related to the series itself but my feelings toward Seongmi are... odd, I guess? Back when I was writing eye exam during nano the game’s mc remained unnamed as  I didn’t think she would have a role relevant enough to warrant a name. When I realized she needed a name, I named her after my friend’s MC. So I guess I feel weird because I didn’t name her so I don’t entirely feel she’s my child? But the character who is Saeyoung’s fiancee in eye exam is my child? Idk it’s weird. 

An unpopular opinion:

I don’t even know what would count as unpopular any more. I’m really mostly here to enjoy my cute, silly ships and stuff so I avoid discussion/discourse posts like the plague. I’ll chat with someone one on one about it, but. Yeah. I just wanna enjoy stuff. ^^;; And I suppose that’s my unpopular opinion

Yooran. Let me explain, I don’t think it’s a bad pairing. Honestly, of the other than MC I think Yoosung is the best suited for Saeran. However, you know when you either like something or neutral about something and somehow that something gets associated with someone and you end up disliking that person a lot and some things you associated with them? It’s a shame but that happened with me and Yooran. I’m slowly re-warming up to it but. /sighs
