          HEAD TURNS ABRUPTLY THE MOMENT  she  hears  footsteps  approach ,  ready  to  send  a  ‘ fuck  off ’  to  whoever  thought  it  a  good  idea  to  come  to  the  training  grounds  at  this  hour .  on  previous  years ,  theo’s  birthday  would  be  the  one  day  of  the  year  where  the  hero  felt  like  she  could  allow  herself  to  take  a  breather ,  to  spend  the  whole  day  indulging  in  anything  but  weaponry  &  fighting .  this  was  an  exception .  following  dahlia’s  gaze  after  noticing  the  other  girl  staring  at  a  broken  battle  ax  split  in  half  on  the  floor ,  theo  raised  her  brows .  ❛  yeah ,  that  was  me .  ❜   she  responded  simply ,  monotone ,  before  turning  her  attention  to  another  dummy .  ❛  shit  snaps  real  easily  these  days ,  ❜  &  the  dummy’s  head  is  sliced  off .  ❛  i  can  fuck  off  if  you  want .  ❜

           𝑻𝑨𝑲𝑰𝑵𝑮  𝑨  𝑫𝑬𝑬𝑷  𝑩𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑻𝑯  ,  𝑺𝑯𝑬  ran  a  hand  through  her  hair  ,  stepping  out  of  the  portal  station  room  .  violet  felt  tired  after  a  full  day  of  university  classes  and  all  she  wanted  to  do  was  go  in  her  room  and  soak  in  her  bathtub  for  a  while  with  a  glass  of  wine  and  some  macaroons  in  her  hand  .  yes  ,  that  sounded  perfect  .  sighing  ,  she  slowly  made  way  towards  the  rooms  but  she  froze  on  the  spot  when  she  saw  thorn  .  grimacing  ,  violet  knew  she  wouldn’t  be  able  to  go  to  her  room  without  passing  him  ,  so  instead  ,  she  turned  around  and  quickly  started  walking  towards  the  library  .  a  very  mature  move  ,  one  could  say  .

There’s no good reason to give this a whole post beside how cute I thought the graphic was lol but anyway the real point is that Jae is so serious about gifts. He loves having the holidays as an excuse he can’t be stopped.

GINNY — requested: n/a — It’s been a long time since Jae stopped asking Ginny what she wants; her answers always suck. This year, he stole her airpods and wrapped them in a giant box, then restocked her snack stash with all her favorites when she wasn’t looking.

JAN: — requested: a Dior jacket he likes — By far one of the most straightforward answers, but it did take a lot of Dealing With Jan first before he could actually focus. It was easy enough to acquire, but a single jacket seemed so lonely without other pieces to go with it, so Jae made Jan pick out a matching outfit.

CYNTHIA: — requested: “ the ugliest thing you can find ” — There is some truly heinous Moschino out there he could have gotten her, but even Jae won’t allow another burger skirt to walk around. He compromised by getting this 2018 Stella McCartney and he’s insisting she wear it out. He tossed in a YSL Libre because it can’t all be bad.

NARUMI: — requested: flowers — Never much of a flowers guy since there’s a few he’s allergic to, Jae tried to keep it classic. He ordered a giant, colorful bouquet, only sneezed once, and went searching for the prettiest crystal vase he could find. Then he ordered some Belgian chocolate for the giggles, and to round things out.

MINJEONG: — requested: a set of rings she’s been eyeing — So Minjeong did also jokingly imply she’d ask for a car instead if she could only drive and Jae wanted to give her shit for it but he was like so real it’s not in our culture to drive (🌈 not sk) but anyway. He did get her those rings, but he also got her a personal driver.

ARIEL: — requested: sent a list of colors, textures, flavors etc. she likes — Jae knows very little about Hanukkah, but he was very ready to assemble eight gifts. Doled out in singularly wrapped gifts for each day, the first three (shoes, blouse, pants) made a full matching outfit, while the next two (dress, jewelry) could be paired with the shoes to make another. The next day held some Baccarat Rouge 540, the day after that a spa pass. The last day, in an effort to stay festive, finally, he gave her a handful of chocolate coins, for gelt.

NATE: — requested: sent a gdoc link of spam instead of answering — Nate is impossible to shop for, so it was easier to just tease him instead. So Jae got him some shoe inserts to help with his height problem, and dinner for two at his favorite restaurant, just so Nate doesn’t try to kill him in his sleep.

GIGI: — requested: a birkin — Truly an angel on earth, she didn’t give him any trouble answering and was clear about exactly what she wanted. Jae has some kind of complex where he can’t just hand over a single gift, though, so he filled her bag with little treats before he was finally ready to give it to her.

KLAUS: — requested: n/a — Like Ginny, they were barely consulted for their gift. Jae didn’t even bother wrapping his up, he just left a bottle of non-alcoholic sparkling wine & a year-long pass to a luxury bathhouse

“are you busy?” she really had no excuse to not offer grey so much as a ‘hello, how are you?’ other than her anxiety being at an all time high, her heart pounding in her ears as she struggled to keep a handle on it. it felt like everyone was staring at her, judging her. like they knew what she had done. she was sure they did, by now, but still. “like, you’re not actively heading to a class or anything? can i steal you for a coffee?” she was speaking a mile a minute, not really leaving room for an interruption as she focused in on her friend, avoiding other eyes. “my treat.”

“Hey, you think Juni’s fine, right?” she asks her brother over a sip of hot cocoa, clearly not even believing it herself, but the crazed tone in her voice is trying to convince them both. “Like, obviously she’s been in a weird place and she’s definitely pissed Daphne’s making her wear the nullifier bracelets, but, like, she took it like a champ, right?” She did not. “Like, it wasn’t as bad as the Tantrum of ‘09, so that has to count for something,” Astrid laughs nervously into her mug.

When Hope found out that she was paired with someone, two trains of thought circled around her head. The first train was powered purely by the shock of her name being announced. Questions chugged through her mind, pushing a stiffness into her limbs as her body tensed. How did this happen? Who entered her name? Who's Pax? By contrast, embarrassment, stored like hot coals in her cheeks, fueled the second train. Hope isn’t known for anything on campus just yet, and she certainly would not be known for her sense of humor. She dislikes blind dates for the same reason she dislikes pop quizzes — she couldn’t prepare for something she couldn’t foresee. And she’d do anything for a bright yellow copy of “How To Let Someone Down Gently: For Dummies” in her hands to study before speaking this Pax. She tugs on her gloves, a nervous tick, hoping that her palms and ends of her fingers won’t sweat too much. Here she goes. “Hello,” she greets politely. So far, so good. “Pax? I’m Hope.” Her hand thrusts forward; it feels right to do, though they might be mid-handshake when she drops the bomb that there may have been a mix-up.

          ❛  MY  MY ,  HOW  DID  YOU  KNOW   i  love  the  phantom  of  the  opera ?  ❜  more  like  granted  the  could  only  remember  a  few  key  aspects  of  the  story  but  that’s  beside  the  point .  thankfully  it  hadn’t  been  hard  to  spot  pax  among  the  people ,  given  the  nature  of  his  mask .  this  meant ,  at  the  very  least ,  that  gigi  would  have  some  form  of  entertainment  until  it  was  time  to  meet  her  mystery  date ,  something  as  exciting  as  it  was  horrifying .  what  if  they  wore  mismatched  socks  or  had  bad  breath ?  ew .  ❛  i  do  hope  i’m  at  least  a  little  recognizable ,  paxie ;  it’d  be  sad  to  think  my  personality  is  so  easily  masked .  are  you  having  fun ?  ❜

Cece has honestly not wanted to be much of a people person this trip, mostly keeping to herself and her small circle of friends. There’s been too much on her mind, or perhaps one thing in particular that she’s trying to ignore, and her fragile ego tells her that it’s probably obvious to everyone that Cece can’t stop thinking about how she got dumped. She’s leaning against the edge of the rink now, just watching the skaters go by, and she can practically feel her energy drop as Dahlia comes into view. “Fancy seeing you here,” she sighs.

jae’s christmas aesthetics rest along the lines of  ugly christmas sweaters and poorly done santa claus impressions. badly wrapped gifts with the hopes a bow will make up for lack of skill. stuffing his face with the remains of a gingerbread house and trying to hide the evidence. ice skating and snowball fights that end with , the loser ‘ buys lunch ‘ .  candy canes in hot chocolate and sitting outside in the freezing cold with a warm mug and a bundle of blankets.

30 . 𝔴𝔥𝔞𝔱’𝔰 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔟𝔢𝔰𝔱 ℭ𝔥𝔯𝔦𝔰𝔱𝔪𝔞𝔰 𝔭𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔢𝔫𝔱 𝔶𝔬𝔲’𝔳𝔢 𝔢𝔳𝔢𝔯 𝔯𝔢𝔠𝔢𝔦𝔳𝔢𝔡?

the best gift jae ever received was when he was seven. the nintendo game cube had just come out and growing up on a farm where money was spread modestly amongst his family, hyunjae didn’t think it was possible to ask for something so expensive. even so, he wrote it down when his mother asked him to make his list–in fact, it was the only thing he wrote. and like he expected, she explained how the game console was simply above her budget and jae understood, and naturally asked for something else. though, it was on christmas morning that his mother surprised him, and all his family members chipped in to pay a fraction of the price. that was the first time jae cried when getting a gift, and though he didn’t get much that year, the game cube was everything he wanted.
