The justice system is so deeply broken it makes me sick. You quite literally need to be a perfect victim to have even the slightest chance of getting justice. And sometimes not even then if your abuser is "charming" enough.

Yeah, it is, anon, and god, to be honest, I don’t even think it always matters if your abuser is charming. We live in a patriarchal society, and the very root of that means that it’s designed structurally and systemically to protect men, especially straight, white, cisgender men. This whole trial has been a sobering reminder of that.

It’s also a sharp reminder that feminism is a political movement, and I think it’s been a movement defanged over the last thirty years because progress has been seen as destination stops instead of the ceaseless journey that a political movement is and should be. Yes, the right to vote, for birth control, to work, are important, but political movements aren’t just about ‘wins’, they’re about dismantling the very structures and systems that oppress, because without doing that, you’re still living within a society that isn’t for you. These wins only mark change because they give women greater movement, but just because you’re no longer tied up in the basement doesn’t mean you’re out of the house.

Systems of oppression exist to maintain the status quo, and they infect broadly and specifically, and one of the ways they do that is through keeping communities self-policing, which women often feel particularly good at – like you said, Amber not being the perfect victim shaped the way she was perceived in the media and certainly the way she was treated by other women. There are a lot of reasons for this, but ultimately it’s just another symptom of the patriarchy – pick me girls, like many of Depp’s supporters, inherently believe they are different, that their gender gives them insight into other women so they can 'choose' to side with men, when really they are just looking through the lens of the patriarchy because deep down, they think siding with men gives them more power and social cache than siding with women do. It doesn’t, it just makes them complicit with a system that thinks they are subhuman and unworthy of belief, of safety, and, as this trial proved, a voice.

The patriarchy ultimately makes them the policer of their own imprisonment.

But! Let’s not talk about them, let’s talk about the fact that Amber is set to appeal the verdict, which means this is far from over. Let’s talk about the fact that media opinion is changing, that Vanity Fair published an op ed by Monica Lewinsky slamming the treatment of Amber, with The New Yorker, Variety, The Atlantic and many other outlets criticising the trial, and emphasising the setback for women. It’s not a lot, but I do think it’s a sign that the tide is turning, and between that and Johnny Depp being up for another assault trial in two months, I think fighting to make sure the conversation does change publicly ahead of the appeal could make a difference.

Again, feminism is a political movement, so if we want systemic change, if we want to dismantle a society that treats this as a joke, we have to keep showing up, keep talking, keep fighting – go to protests, donate money or goods or your time to organisations that are doing the hard work, protect and believe other women – even the ones who piss you off – and always, always vote.

And hey, a lot of women haven’t steered from the course, so let’s end on some good news and some progress from the last couple of weeks, because god knows I’ve been needing the reminder  to:

Minors in Illinois will no longer have to ask permission from a parent/guardian or a judge to get an abortion.

Community organisation, the Kansas Coalition, saw barriers for Latino domestic violence victims getting out of relationships and have just launched a free, confidential, multi-language service unaffiliated with law enforcement or government.

Similarly, Alaa Huthut, an engineer living in Gaza, has developed a phone app in the Palestinian Gaza Strip allowing domestic abuse victims to privately seek help while avoiding the shame and reprisals that put many off going directly to authorities.

In Australia, after a conservative government did the bare minimum on, well, everything, but especially rape and sexual harassment in parliament house, the women’s vote swung the election so far away from them that not only did the government change two weeks ago, but the very future of their party is in doubt.  

It’s taken three years, but also in Australia, Queensland is set to criminalise coercive control and are probing police response to domestic violence.

Global pay parity for men and women is still a long way off, but crucially, many countries are making real progress at the moment including Timor-Leste, Rwanda and Barbados which represents a hopeful step forwards, and last, but certainly not least:

South Korea is in the midst of a growing feminist movement, and Park Ji-hyun, a feminist activist who has spent years fighting digital sex crimes, has just become the leader of the opposition party. Bloomberg did an inspiring and invigorating profile on her here.

The Freak Insecure

I have a crazy ugly cousin from my father's bloodline named Ro-Ann Salon Nosotros. I maintained just being friendly with her since she said bad about my playmate and also my former neighbor, Julie Ann Tan Tapican. Jaymar was tasked to observe her and her family because she or they may ruin someone's day again. When Jaymar said to me that she is not a good person, I set my boundaries. How dare Ro-Ann Salon Nosotros blame other people for her own faults. Ew!.

She put bubble gum on my lola's clothes. Her mother did that because she tell lies. She's not that shy to stay with Tito Arleen's house. Right?. A great hypocrite. Isn't?.

Her mother get one one of the pairs of our rooms curtain. Duh. She said it's for her remembrance from lola. She's so crazy. My father bought that fabric for lola's clothes. She should have said remembrance from tatay. Hahahaha. Really crazy people like those government employees from the bukid hired for fun. Like what you see on the streets. Just like who's with Marivic, Arvic's parents and me on our last meeting. Hahahaha.

She wants to compair Julie Ann Tapican how brainy she is to her IQ level. Duh. A well raised child knows she is smart. And duh... if I talk about school, as much as I believe according to my experience to the two. Duh. Ro-Ann Salon Nosotros is the greatest shame here. I can ask Jaymar whatever I want to know about someone.

I hate it when my mother gave my toys to her. Its a once in a lifetime gift from the person I like. I get it because its mine. I'M PRETTY GIRL. My mother never knows how to treasure someone in her life. I was also shocked that my bodyguards was not in my place when I go out of our doors house. I can't find my Joaquin.

I reached my lola's house because her family lives there. I hate to see DAGOL THE FIRST there.

She's so proud to wear my clothes. A copycat of her hard to get illusion. She looks crazy. Her mom just laugh out loud going here to borrow a dress. She's supposed to go with her.

I saw her photos on her facebook imitating me. She even uploaded my photos there and said that it is her. Kindly excuse her that, I'm pretty inside and out, she's ugly totally!.

She also bought a stuffed toy like what Gamaliel gave to Anna and me. The prosthetics goons may have swapped it. So, I throw it.

Ro-Ann Salon Nosotros ruin my mass veil so they bought me a new expensive one.

Their family is rich and mine is poor. But they are still insecure. I don't care about fuck people like them.

We, the anti-baddie, anti-ugly, anti-bacteria, and so on, just whisper around who not to be with because of their outstanding ugliness. Even lola never wants me to be with her even I left Jaymar outside. I saw an ugly Jaymar outside lola's room. Ew!.

They just thought they won. Why they didn't huthut to Winston Chan?. Hahahaha. A unano said that I am lucky to have Winston Chan in my life.

Well, I am happy that I can hide my real self and make the copycats crazy. So, I got the best of both worlds.
