I’m not very well-read in the genre, but there are two recent reads I’ve enjoyed. The Art of Three (Maltese & McRae) is about an older m/f couple meeting a younger man, and realizing that they’re serious about him and having to figure out how that will work. Eligible (Sittenfeld) is a modern Pride&Prejudice retelling set in the States that did some really great things adapting it to the new setting - the daughters are older, there are queer characters, etc.

Well, I’m all about poly, I’ll definitely have to look out for that! I did read their “A Queen from the North” and found the FMC difficult to like in places, but I’m definitely willing to give them another shot. And I’m all about clever Austen modern AUs!

Panda has me reading things by KJ Charles who does excellent queer historical romance. The one she started me with was the casebook of Simon feximal but I just started another series from her that I’ve forgotten the name of because I just started it lol. I’ll message it to you shortly! She’s really wonderful - I love her style

I read her “Wanted, a Gentleman” and haven’t done any of her others! Though my impression has always been that she tends to stick towards the 19th century England side of things?

I would definitely check out Courtney Milan’s contemporaries. I loved Trade Me and Hold Me. Also, I love Sarina Bowen. Of her stuff, I’d probably start with The Year We Fell Down.

@hurricanedancer is meanwhile brainstorming a riverdale fic--which is fic of a fic of archie comics, which i grew up reading and am thus very invested and excited to read and beta.

Thanks so much for the tag, @hurricanedancer!

Ideal animal companion? An equal parts loyal and adorable dog.

Favorite childhood book? Probably J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, which still makes me cry to this day.

Favorite time of day? If I’m awake for it? First thing in the morning. I love the feeling of possibility, like there’s an entire day ahead and any number of things could happen.

If you had to pick one food group to never eat again, what would it be? (assume health isn’t an issue) Ooh, umm...meat, I guess? If health weren’t an issue and I could eat a bunch more carbs than I can currently tolerate, I’d be eating carbs (grains, vegetables, fruits, you name it) all the damn time. So that leaves, like, meat and dairy, and you know I’m picking cheese over meat.

Favorite subject in school? History, always. Particularly world history! That was my major in college.

What fic tropes will you not read? There are a few that straight up squick me (mpreg, dubcon, etc.), and then there are the ones I’m just not a huge fan of. That list includes: prostitution AU, anything involving cheating, amnesia fic (just not my fave, for some reason!), and genderswap.

Favorite literary genre? Not really a “genre” per se, but my ideal book features an optimistic story about women/girls. 

MBTI, Hogwarts House, or Astrology as a way to classify people? (or other) Ooh! I think MBTI is generally a pretty useful way of understanding someone. Like, I’m such an intense introvert that it’s super helpful to hear when someone names the “E” at the beginning of their MBTI because I can adjust the way I react to them accordingly. I really like Hogwarts houses as a way of classifying characters, etc., and I actually find it really fascinating to hear what my real-life friends identify as their houses...mostly because I think the hogwarts house you identify with it says a lot about you. Saying “I’m such a Gryffindor” says a lot not really about who you actually are, but about how you see yourself.

What Disney/animated princess would you most like to get coffee with? Megara from Hercules. She would have STORIES.

If magic was real, what system of magic would you want it to be? (ie, Harry Potter magic, Name of the Wind sympathy, etc) Probably Harry Potter magic, because that’s a system I feel fairly comfortable with. There seem to be rules, and I get how those rules work.

Breakfast food of choice? CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES WITH A SIDE OF BACON, PLEASE.

The last TV show I watched was Daredevil in October last year. All other attempts to follow any series have failed after 1-2 eps

I graduated last November (after 6 years!) and work full-time, and it eats up my life to a pretty big degree that doesn’t leave much else personal

A few days ago my immediate superior was rostered on for a 8AM to 10PM shift. He had to stay until 1:30AM, unpaid overtime, and had another 8AM to 4PM shift the next day. A week ago, someone from work tried to call me at 3AM to “pass something on”.

I did this a while ago, but aside from the first story on this list I can’t remember how I answered.  Yay being old. :-P So I’m going to do it again. 

We Have Brought Peace Onto You – for THG/Everlark. The first piece of creative writing I’d done since childhood.  Even though it’s rather… dramatic (Katniss is Jewish, Peeta isn’t; and it’s 1930s Germany. yeah.) and may not be my best fic in terms of prose quality, etc., it will always be the most ambitious fic I’ve ever written.  And it will always be my favorite, because it taught me you can still pick up new obsessions hobbies in your late-30s. ;) 

Trinkets and Heartstrings – for Tentoo x Rose. I’d always wanted to write a “Gift of the Magi” fic and finally got the chance to do it here.  I love how it turned out. 

Crash Into You – for rebelcaptain.  Five times Cassian and Jyn shared a bed and one time they didn’t.  Because like many of you, I’m bedsharing trash.  Also 5 + 1 fic trash.  The first real fic I wrote for this fandom so the characterization might be a little wobbly, but I still love it.  ;)

The Rebel and Her Captain.  K-2 finds fanfiction on the Rebel network featuring Cassian and Jyn. He decides Cassian needs to know about it.  This is pure, unrepentant crack that probably shouldn’t exist but I laughed my head off while writing it.  So onto this list it goes. ;)

Five Times Arya and Gendry Didn’t Kiss and One Time They Did.  Exactly what it says on the tin. ;)

Rosie’s Rebelcaptain Recs Vol 2 - AUs

Per the theme of day 3 of Rebelcaptain Week, here are my recs for some of my favourite au stories in no particular order, with au defined as outside canonverse.

only fools rush in by @andromeda3116 - Fake Dating! Christmas au. Complete. The fact that this fic is awesome is definitely old news by now, but it bears repeating that this is the fictional equivalent of a hot chocolate and the best hug and it’s reread potential is endless.

poco a poco by @canardroublard - Music school au. Complete. I mean, I love this fic so much I wrote a whole other one just to pay it tribute. It’s sweet and funny and sexy while never losing the rough edges that make us love these characters so much. Anytime I’d go back to check on a detail for the MITJ au, I’d end up rereading the whole thing because it’s so delightful.

find me by @lifeauthoredbymusic - Reunited exes/FBI au. Complete. Man, the author manages to pack eight years worth of romantic and sexual tension into this elevator and it is deeply satisfying when it’s resolved. I came back to this fic a bunch of times when writing the reunion scenes in my own exes au to try and capture some of its depth of feeling.

In the Shadows by @hurricanedancer - White Collar/FBI au. Complete. Just reread this last night and god it is GOOD. Great action scenes, wonderful dynamics throughout the ensemble and an achingly gorgeous relationship at its heart with pining that actually comes from a valid obstacle to the relationship rather than just obliviousness (though god knows I love that kind of pining too). It’s long enough to be deeply satisfying yet I still never want it to end.

the other a-team series by @birdhapley - Newsroom au. Complete. Holy lord, speaking of long, satisfying fics that break my heart when they end, these two fics are as close to perfect as any I’ve read. I have seriously shed tears over how good they are and they’re not even sad! Featuring: better Sorkin dialogue that Sorkin, great use of the ensemble, mutual competence kinks for days and just the best, realest confession scene that you’ve ever read. God I’m even tearing up just thinking about them. Fuck. They’re good, is what I’m saying.

The Softening Blows by @halflunar - College au. Complete. Man, I have waxed poetic about this fic many a time and for good reason. It paints its universe in colours so real and tangible you feel like you’re inside of it and perfectly captures the mix of giddiness and painful yearning of falling in love.

iron, salt, earth by @youareiron-andyouarestrong - Harry Potter au. WIP. I think about this fic a lot because it has such a fascinating and compelling universe, fleshed out even beyond HP canon. Within this universe is unfurling a truly thrilling plot combined with the heart-melting sweetness of the developing relationship between young Jyn and Cassian. I’m always desperate for each new chapter but what’s already written is more than worth a read or reread.

God, how crazy talented is this fandom, y’all? This doesn’t even scratch the surface of great fics out there but if I try and add more I’ll never be able to stop. Every author is a gift and I appreciate you all so much. Thank you for the literal years of enjoyment you’ve given me xxx

I don't know if this is helpful; I've never been there myself, but I know someone who goes fairly regularly, and he usually stays in The Hague and gets the train in to Amsterdam because hotel prices are that much cheaper out there :)
