Compilation Pre-Order: https://ift.tt/2roeXPY Boston’s Hip-Hop promotional powerhouse, Leedz Edutainment shares another banger from their upcoming 'Eastern Standard' project with “Never Lived It,” a party-ready and playful collaboration that features Cam Meekins, Sap, and Michael Christmas. This latest leak from ES features boisterous, drunken production from the Arcitype, who actually provided the instrumentals for the large majority of the compilation. And his stumbling, fun-as-hell beat is the perfect setting for these three younger and gifted artists from up and down the East coast. While Cam and Michael are holding it down for Boston, Sap splits his time between Delaware and Florida. Fittingly, Sap also splits his time between talents, as he’s becoming more well known for his rhyming but you may know his production work from collaborations with Mac Miller, The Game, and Juicy J. Sap’s more direct and raw bars are a natural pairing for his Beantown contemporaries, who deliver standout boasts and super-slick wordplay. “Never Lived It” can now be purchased for instant grat off the iTunes pre-order for 'Eastern Standard,' which is due out May 18th through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms, courtesy of Leedz Edutainment. The 21 track compilation also includes guest features from Slaine, Blacastan, Chris Orrick (f/k/a Red Pill), Chris Rivers, Mega Ran, Spose, Natti and Deacon The Villain (of CunninLynguists), YGTUT, and many more! Eastern Standard Tracklist: 01. The East Coast (feat. Mega Ran) 02. The Motions (feat. Rite Hook & Chris Rivers) 03. Where The Wild Things Are (feat. STL GLD, Ransom & Blank Face) 04. Yancey Martin and Hummer, “Fraternities and Rape on College Campuses,”
Admin: Leah Meaux, Hayden Robert
Summary:
Article Stakeholders: College aged women, college aged men, and all those concerned about their wellbeing.
This reading delved into how college Fraternity protocols ultimately lead to the abuse/sexual coercion of college women. This conclusion was drawn after conducting multifaceted research, interviews and case studies. This article has brought to light many, many things that were hard to read, but they all stemmed from the customs that fraternities uphold or wish to uphold. It begins with the pledging process.
Full analysis:
Valued members of fraternities display a narrow conception of masculinity that stresses competition, athleticism, dominance, wealth, willingness to drink, and sexual prowess toward women. Pledges who do not adhere to the stereotypical masculine attributes were seen as not suitable for the fraternity. Suspected gay members were trimmed out of the fraternities; a fraternity with a reputation as wimpy or even tolerant of gays is ridiculed by other fraternities. Valued members possessed social skills and favorable personalities, and most importantly the ability to talk to women. Great wealth and good looks were also valued. This process was referred to as Militant Heterosexuality.
The pledging experience can entail bodily abuse, unnecessary disciplines, demands to be subordinate and follow orders, and other demeaning activities. It can be paralleled with similar activities used by the military to “make men out of boys”.
If the least stereotypically macho and most critical pledges drop out (as planned), those who remain can be more receptive to, and influenced by the pseudo-masculine views and practices that encourage the use of force in sexual relations and the covering up of such behavior to protect the fraternity status.
Loyalty is of upmost importance and is constantly reiterated to members. Loyalty can be played out in the practices of group protection and secrecy. The fraternity must be shielded from criticism to maintain its social status. This protection can take precedence over what is ethically or legally correct.
Very few women on campus report date rapes, so the odds of detection and punishment are slim for fraternity men who use alcohol for “seduction” purposes. Fraternities are so unsafe, that insurance companies are often reluctant to cover them. Fraternities are increasingly defendants in legal actions brought by pledges subjected to hazing and women who were raped by one or more members.
A contributing factor to the abuse of women in fraternities stems from their competing access to beautiful women. The fraternity’s success in attracting beautiful women is acts as a status symbol. “In displaying attractive, nubile women to potential members, fraternities implicitly, and sometimes explicitly, promise sexual access to women.” In using women as pawns and pray in attracting pledges, it encourages these fraternity men to see women as objects and encourages sexual coercion as sport.
“In displaying good-looking, attractive, skimpily dressed, nubile women to potential members, fraternities implicitly, and sometimes explicitly, promise sexual access to women.”
This quote encapsulates fraternities’ use of conventionally attractive women to seduce pledges toward rushing for them. This act sexually objectifies women right at the get-go, the young men are promised access to willing women as a part of the fraternity package. The fraternity delivers on this promise with constant access to women via “Little Sisters” they have pledged to the fraternity, who are “up for grabs” themselves, as well as encouraging of other women to be involved with the frat or participate in parties. Access to these women is ensured with “HunchPunch”. HunchPunch is a drink consisting of only over-proofed alcohol and kool-aid powder. Glasses of this vodka kool-aid are distributed among women in participation, specifically aimed at the “stuck up” girls who are not an “easy lay.” One of the fraternity brothers interviewed said quote “just two of these will do a number on a girl”.
To a developing and probably already misogynistic mindset that fraternity pledges seem to all possess, what’s not to love about unlimited access to women who are now easier to sleep with because their better judgment has been compromised? It fosters an environment where the implication of your very presence at a frat house is enough for you to be seen as asking for it. This implication paired with the loyalty of the fraternity and protection of the group, victims are most often silent. This silence, which is undoubtedly completely understandable as it is a traumatic experience, contributes to the continued abuse taking place.
