Oh that’s a fun thought, the idea of a soul being human or rare outside of humanity.

Imagine if there are alien technologies that interact strangely with the human soul.

Imagine a human not able to enter the designated break room since all the space equivalent of microwaves keep malfunctioning when the humans enter the room.

Or the aliens try and use the equivalent of a language translator and it just can’t pick up the language we are speaking since our soul causes the tech to have interference.

I imagine static on monitors or echoing sounds coming from sound equipment when the human walks by.

The human cannot enter the reactor since his very being causes it to react strangely. Maybe it gets stronger, maybe the readings get twisted. Maybe the reactor gets weaker, the energy being absorbed into the human.

I too, would be curious. If the equivalent of funny lizards can walk into a room and interrupt any technology that was working only a moment before. Maybe that is why humans are abducted?

Maybe the human soul is this untouchable intangible power, something that cannot be seen or touched but it certainly can be felt. Humans can’t feel it since every single one has a soul and their tech has been developed with the interference in mind.

A pirate freighter scans a ship in space, sees there are no heat signals as fair as their sensors can detect, there is some funny interference, they board the ship and are surprised by a full team of humans.

Oh an idea. They say that when you put your heart and soul into the work on something, a little bit of your soul leaves and enters the object. Imagine, a ship, worked on by humans and cared for like family, having a soul. A ship that it’s mere presence causes tech to fail. A real ghost ship

This is so fun to think of. I might write some fun on this. The human soul. The ghosts we have stories about are real to aliens and we have them. We are ghosts in mortal flesh.

Oh I just gasped. Can you imagine a bunch of humans die in combat, and their ghosts proceed to cause so much tech failure that future aliens assume humans, upon their mortal body being destroyed, can enter a second phase of life, where they can cause untold damage.

Oh for sure I’m going to work on this. This is so fun

Humans really are space orcs and it’s not for the reason most people say it is? Not even me!

I dove down the rabbit hole called Reddit and I decided to join a couple alien forums for some inspiration.

I saw some stuff that I’m definitely going to touch on later- but there’s this theory that aliens (again in a future post I’ll be more specific) are studying and dissecting and working on humans and it’s thought that a certain species is interested in us because we have souls..

It never occurred to me that aliens might not have a soul. I always believed that every single living thing in the universe had one.

Perhaps it’s not that we have a soul but maybe it’s that our soul can do something that theirs cannot-.

With that in mind! Imagine being on a space ship and only a couple of the species on it have souls and for this reason it’s considered an incredibly rare and incredibly mysterious trait! The amount of questions you’d get lol. What if the soul is seen as scary? Or a god like trait, or what if it’s seen as a weakness?

I really wanna see what you guys can add onto this!!

In a ship where having a soul is a mysterious feature and trait with a lot of rumors as a result.

webcomic/indie comic from the 2010s. basically a sci-fi short story about a young girl (with red hair?) who was being raised by scientists as part of an experiment. she receives a haircut/has her head shaved, in preparation for her annual brain scan/testing. it is revealed that while her body is human, her "brain" is artificial, made of computer implants throughout her skull and spine. at some point her biological mother (also a scientist on the same campus?) encounters her and is repulsed, viewing her as a machine who has murdered her daughter.

it was very poignant and it bruised my heart and i can NOT find it anywhere

Two old farts in a haunted house? One has a kid from an old marriage, the other has a banshee x-wife who tried to kill him? Like, he meets her while trying to escape his ex and she agrees to marry him instead since her fiancé admitted to not loving her except for her money. But she needs to be married to keep the house and he wants to be human, so marriage of inconvenience but they end up liking each other and stage ghost stuff for her show. Something something he lives or she dies and we get a dramatic ending.

there's no right or wrong answer and obviously this is a very culturally sensitive question- the history (and present state) of displaying human remains is closely tied up with colonialism and (dis)respect for religious and cultural practices, which is why i'm really curious about how many people WOULD be ok with their body being displayed- and why/why not- so if u wanna expand on your answer in the tags please do!!

Dp x Dc AU: Tim doesn’t rest, not even in Death.

It’s a heart attack that gets him, well, that and the insane amount of fear toxin flooding his system. He was dead for a full three minutes before he watches (how was he watching?) his eldest brother get his heart going again and get his unconscious body to the cave. Alfred gets him onto bat-life support and Leslie looks gravely at his family after she’s done her best to heal him. They decide to keep trying, they don’t want to believe he’s gone.

Tim watches in fury. He’s more useful than this, he’s not just going to die and let the family mourn him! Tim sets to work trying to understand what’s happened to him and he realizes he must be a ghost. Therefore, if he wants to understand ghosts he needs to go where ghosts are, and thankfully he just read a JLD doc saying to avoid Amity Park at all costs.

It’s takes him a second to get used to flying at full speed, but he finds himself surrounded by strange people in a strange town and… he notices himself becoming more visible. He’s able to interact with more and more objects, he even picked up a pencil! Poltergeist is a step forward in his plan, Tim accepts this change of pace.

Then Tim meets Danny, a normal human kid who looks like he could be brought into the manor and given a cape, who looks straight at him.

“Wait, who are you? You didn’t die in Amity did you?”

“No, I died in Gotham. I came here to understand how I’m a ghost and how I can get back to my dying body. I just need a few answers.” Tim explains, and notices that his voice isn’t his own, like it’s a different language entirely that comes out.

“Well, uh, I dunno about going back to your body but it’s not safe for you to be here. The GIW are looking for lost souls like you that people won’t notice go missing. So get back to your family and find peace. Im sorry but that’s really the best advice I have.” Danny answers.

Tim begs him for answers on the GIW. Begs him for any answers at all. Danny shrugs him off each time, tell him that he’s just a ghost and he needs to move on before he gets hurt or becomes a problem.

Tim decides if he’s a problem, he’ll probably get more answers.

Soon enough, he’s stepping into the end of a battle where Phantom is getting Skulker into a thermos, and demands answers, and if not answers help.

They brawl, and Tim’s training as Red Robin gets him farther than a lot of ghosts. And then, when he knows he’s beat and he’s about to share thermos space with the robot jackass (who he can interrogate and then build his own robot) Tim realizes something.

“You’re still alive, aren’t you? You’re Danny, black hair and blue eyes.” Tim says and suddenly Phantom is as still as the dead despite the accusation.

“How the fuck- dude. Okay, you know what? Fine. Lets go talk, you’re clearly not giving up and I need you to never say that shit out loud ever again.”

Because blackmail works in life for Tim, blackmail also apparently works in death.

He’s given all of the info they have on the GIW, he’s introduced to ghost technology and how it works with ectoplasm. He’s told about the portal (although they refuse to sneak him into the house to see it- he can handle a few lasers, ugh) and he’s told about the general sequence of events in Danny’s life/death.

And then Tim is suddenly back in his body in Gotham.

The family found a way to bring him back and he’s 100% alive, no longer ghostly, but he retained all his memories.

“We have a war against the government to start” are not the first words his family expected to hear from Tim post death.

Parent's Day

Ghosts didn't have a father's or mother's day as such, but they did have a day where they combined both. A day to celebrate your guardians. Humans, Yetis, Amazons or Gods, it was a quiet day to thank them for your ghost adoption.

Dan and Ellie had spent a few years under the halfa's care but at the end of the day they considered him their guardian (although Dan did it reluctantly), so when they heard about Parent's Day they panicked.

They wanted to show Danny that they really appreciated him but a mug or coupons were not enough. In the end after some brainstorming they decided to give him the closest thing to a mug that was in the Realms: Constantine's complete soul.

John Contantine was a very annoying human, they knew this because they heard Danny complain about his paperwork many times. Apparently their father had 99% of his soul but couldn't do anything until he had 100%, and what better gift than to help him get rid of the paperwork? He hated paperwork! It was perfect!

With some help from Clockwork they traveled to DC's dimension, determined to take the last of the hellblazer's soul. Dan wondered if he should steal a star from the dimension while they were there (Danny liked space didn't he?), as an extra gift.

John Constantine was in the middle of explaining the holes in reality to the Justice League when a shiver ran through his body. He had an instant bad feeling.
