video i just watched:
youtuber: some people think snakes are slimy and gross. these people may have had personal experiences with snakes that scarred them, perhaps in their childhood, or they may not have actual real world experience with snakes and base their opinions on myths and misinformation. also, some people keep snakes as pets.
commenter A: but I had a personal experience with snakes in childhood that scarred me, so i don't think those people are lying!
commenter b: but some people keep snakes as pets so i don't think they're very disliked
commenter c: you forgot to mention how much misinformation there is about snakes such as that they're slimy

Actually another vaguely snippy more-fandom-related then material related trek thought: someone always complains when a human character gets specifically called out, for lack of a better term, for their geographic origin in fic because "countries don't exist in the star trek universe" ok cool? Sweden hasn't been controlled political via landskap in any sense for decades and they haven't been independent countries for about a millennium, give or take a century here or there, and you bet your ass we still roll our eyes about how people from Småland are (source: am smålänning)
(also canon does this too but that's not the point)

why is religious Christmas imagery all so joyful and pleasant? where is the inherent horror of the birth of Christ? A mother is handed her newborn child, wailing and innocent. Her hands come away sticky. Red. Simply by giving her son life she has already killed him. He is doomed from the beginning. Her love will not save him from suffering. Because the thing cradled in her arms is not a baby, it is a sacrifice: born amongst the other bleating animals whose blood will one day be spilled in the name of what demands it. the night is silent with anticipation. Mary, did you know? That your womb was also a grave?

A random reassuring thought:
For thousands of years, over maybe millions of cultures and human settlements, one thing that's PROBABLY universal:
Younger Siblings trying to fart on Older Siblings' heads. And cackling hysterically
It's a thing right?
No WAY it's just me and my little brother

Growing up is learning that you will hurt people, you will disappoint them, you will break hearts.
But you still have to live and believe you are good.

If you don't believe Op, read diary of some guy called Samuel Pepys (not sure if I've spelled it right).
god people have always been people. victorian noblewomen stubbed their toes and swore about it. medieval peasants ripped hangnails a little too hard and sucked on it to make it better. cavemen put kids on their shoulders so the kids could get their handprints up on the wall. someone in the 1760s played with their dog and someone in the 1340s dragged themself out of bed at some unholy hour of the morning to soothe a crying baby and someone in the 1550s stuck a flower behind their lovers ear. I'm gonna be sick people have always been people

"So, handling your archnemesis," Danny starts. The room falls quiet, heads slowly turning to look at the man as he writes the words on the chalkboard. When finished, the characters somehow both messy and neat at once, Danny places the chalk back down and claps his hands.
"I typically call them fruitloops. Often they're in a better position than you are- older, richer, more powerful. They may have some sort of status that protects them when facing the public."
Tim wondered where Dick was right now, and if he was laughing. His brain was lagging like a computer as he tried to process what Danny was saying, and how seriously a few of his fellow teen vigilantes were taking this.
"Some of their more common tactics are-" the chalk was picked back up, and Danny writes as he speaks.
"Manipulation, isolation, conditioning, and empathy."
MICE.
Tim stares at the board, and quietly slips put his phone.
-What have I done to deserve this.
Enjoy your lessons Tim-
His head thumps against the desk. Conner leans over, gives him a pat on the shoulder but returns to taking notes as Danny goes on to explain the conditioning tactic.

When i was in 6-7 grade, one of the guys from my class found the video. I have no idea how or why, but he managed to convince the teacher to let him play it to the rest of the class. Literally everyone was mesmerized, the amount of energy in video, the dancing, it looked so freaking fun and even though we had no idea what exactly it was about, we loved it.
For next 2 years, the video played at least once a week, but usually more often and pretty much the whole class had the dance memorized. People took turns playing the roles and the teachers had no idea what was happening, but they let us do it. Since then i haven't had any dancing experience that would top the amount of energy and positivity i got while having the small dance breaks with my classmates.
