if witcher 4 is set in the past, but in the recent past… in other words, the heyday of witchers… that would actually be way more interesting than setting it in the distant past, because we have so much more developed, canon context already for that period. there’s already a skeleton to hang a story on.

“This Planet Needs a Name” is another fun one where the premise is fantastic and then the execution completely falls on its face.

TPNaN is the story of a cryo-ship launched from a dying Earth to try to re-populate humanity on another planet, out of the fear that Earth is not going to be habitable for much longer. It’s a one-way trip. The people who volunteered for this mission can never go back. It’s unclear if, when they wake up, there even will even be an Earth in any meaningful manner anymore. They’re going out of any reasonable communication range; they’ll never know.

This ship is flying to a distant, selected planet with a compatible atmosphere for humans. Aside from the atmosphere, though, it’s expected to be a bare lifeless rock. The core crew of seven are awoken from cryo-sleep once they arrive, preparing to spend the next decades terraforming the planet to meet human needs, and only then wake up the ten thousand humans in cold sleep below to have a new planet to live on.

But when they arrive at the planet, when the crew wake up… it’s not a lifeless rock at all. It’s a planet with a complex, vibrant, living ecosystem, full of complex, vibrant, living beings.

This is a GREAT setup. What a difficult story there is here about hope and horror, wonder and fear, trauma and duty, the realization that you’ve committed the rest of your life to a plan that’s been blown out of the water, that your responsibility to the people in your hold cannot be your only responsibility anymore, that you have so much to learn about this place and you can’t just change it to your will, it already exists. What is your duty to the people you brought with you for a promise of a new, better life, vs. your responsibility to the forests, the oceans, the animals, the whales and the dragons, that already live here? What do you do now when this is not what you planned for at all?

And TPNaN answers these questions by going :) it’s fine :) the fact that it’s already ready for them is awesome and great :) they’ll just terraform a LITTLE bit of the planet :) just enough for a human city :) they all compromise very quickly on this plan :) every conflict is resolved quickly and easily by being nice to each other :) these people do not owe jack squat to anything that already lives here and they are perfectly in their right to treat them like wild animals, curiosities at best and threats that need to be fought off at worst :) they never ever once wonder about their responsibility to learn about this place before they plop down and start terraforming it :) this is a wonderful gift just for them :) this planet needs a name. nobody ever once even slightly wonders if the inhabitants of this planet have a name for it. They’re not people after all

(when they learn that oops these native inhabitants are conscious, thinking people, this prompts a reckoning from nobody because hey look they’re friendly and happy to help)

the abyss only wanted him to take on one form. in cyanide that form was the foul legacy, and to be frank childe did take it. he just refused to remain with that form. and also like- for it to have reached the 'haha the abyss is like an insistent dog' status, it would've had to have been-

Watching Wayward Pines for potential ST5 inspo bc the Duffers wrote a couple episodes in s1, and when I got to their second (last) episode and their name crossed the screen, I noticed a visual parallel that might already exist on the show…

Recognize it??

It instantly reminded me of that last shot for the opening of s3, with the landscape peaking out behind the Russian base. But when I went back and actually compared the two, holy shit it’s near identical, and not just the landscape.

I didn’t even remember the helicopter being there on the left, not to mention the pillar-esaue contraption at the center. Like… they’re the same picture.!

With them being credited right at that moment, it’s obvious this was an intentional nod to their previous work.

I just thought it was cool so I wanted to share, but in terms of my watch overall, there is a LOT going on that they could pull from. I’m only halfway through s1, though I’ve heard the show goes downhill in s2 so we’ll see how that goes 😂

Hmmm I'm curious about what yall think about the cannibal colony

Because to me, it feels like there is evidence on both sides. But I do feel like their hellborn and it personally makes more sense to me

Or, manifestation of humans greatest sins, being in the pride ring and, well, who takes more pride in vile acts then serial killers nd cannibals?

I mean, they look freakishly similar and are shown to have kids; which we havnt seen in any other sinners, none look as identical as they do

Edit, they do have multiple kids in cannibal town, shots Shor pre/teens, tho we still haven't seen kids outside of the town so, did they age or die at that age

I'm also pretty sure kids get a freepass to heaven, especially one as young as the cannibal boy would be

We also see Susan, who could've just died at that old age, but no other sinners have shown to be that old. And aging is only a hellborn thing

There's also that thing um....fautiss! I think, said on stream, about her being hellborn and a hellborn overlord, tho that might not be canon anymore

And sure, they could just leave the pride ring for the exterminations, but at risk of said stuff being destroyed, if they were hellhorn

So personally I think there's a lot of evidence pointing towards them being hellborn

But on the other side, we do see sinners with similar tho not identical features as the colony, mimzys eyes and cheeks for example

And exorcists aren't allowed to kill hellborns, tho I wouldn't be surprised if they ignored that rule in favor of time as long as they don't hurt Charlie or a large number of hellborn it's fine

And they bleed red. Which I'm not sure cause I don't think we saw any bleed, at least I didn't

Side note that is not at all related to the question, I feel like their kinda based on an ant colony with how similar they look and the colony in their name. Fun little thought that popped into my head

The burn scars are from the portal gun

The ones on her left leg are from being attacked by a human while on the surface, so are the ones on her upper arms and torso

The one on her right thigh is from being hit by a turret at one point
