I've just remembered that the Ignika canonically cursed everybody and most people who weren't their Chosen or Mata Nui if they touched the mask.

Ignika as a person probably is covered from neck to toes, always with long sleeves and pant legs, closed shoes, and even gloves, no matter how warm and humid it is.

Ignika is the most touch-averse person in the entire world. He's dressed like you said, neck to toes covered at all times. Hands off the merchandise. Anyone who does touch them without consent will have some Real Bad stuff happen to them, and in Ignika's mind they will have deserved it.

I also really like your idea of Ignika observing the Inika for a while before approaching them. Matoro has this eerie feeling of being watched randomly at school or out and about and then this beautiful person with golden eyes approaches them one day and says "hello Guardian" with what might be a smile on anyone else and he freaks the fuck out and runs

Eventually Ignika manages to impress on him who it is, and for a while he's the only one it will let touch it at all. After a while though I think he would let the other Inika get a brief touch in here or there--a friendly pat on the back, a hand to help him up when he falls. She still mostly wants Matoro, though. He's not sure how he feels about it.

It’s such a small moment and maybe I just have brain rot or something but in the beginning when Splinter is talking abt why he hates humans it’s Mikey specifically that chimes in with that little “you don’t know that.” And just UGH

Even just by his tone you can tell that he knows his words aren’t going to change anything because they’ve had this conversation too many times. But also Mikey was the one Splinter almost lost that day, like if Splinter was any slower Mikey would’ve been gone.

And you just know in the minds of children Mikey equated their isolation from humans as being his fault because he almost got ran over as a baby.

Like I don’t wanna say it because sometimes leads to unnecessary angst, but children who grow up isolated from everyone else believing that they can’t confide in their parent often blame themselves for their parents decisions.

Donnie and Raph back talk and make fun of Splinter the most but Mikey does it like once and Leo does it never. So you can tell Leo and Mikey don’t get upset with their father, they get upset with themselves for the way things are and I just

y'know, when people started putting "girl" at the beginning of things, i thought it was funny and also a reclamation of sorts. Like anything I do is "girl" because I said it was and it in no way has to be feminine or masculine or fit into any sorta box because girl is all encompassing. As like I say it's "girl" it is "girl". To call my cold in the middle hot pocket "girl dinner" cus I didn't feel like cooking that day or to also call my full plate of pasta I cooked myself "girl dinner" cus I made it, therefore, girl.

The KNPS Toa/Turaga Metru from @magicalgirlmascot's Kini Nui Public School fic

On the left is how they looked as Toa circa 2004, on the right are the Metru as Turaga in late 2024. In descending order: Vakama, Nokama, Onewa, Matau, Whenua, Nuju

The challenge with an AU like this is having to humanize the Great and Noble forms of the masks in a way that still looks like the same person 20 years apart. As well as being a modern AU with no facial markings, cybernetics or weird accessories to clearly mark who's who, so the characters have to inherently be a bit Just Some Guy looking at first glance. Anyway, there's a lot of little details that link to their canon masks and aspects of the story, so I'll be curious to see which ones people pick up on.
