An infamous hitman at the young age of 14, she’s known for the kitsune mask she wears and the white fox tail that follows behind her. While it may seem fake, it is, in fact, a true fox tail, which is only a sign of her being a successful experiment of the government. A mysterious girl she is, her existence is often mistaken as some sort of legend, as no one’s ever truly seen her, though rumour has it that the ones who do meet her never live to tell the tale.

Long story short was sold to the government by her selfish parents who wanted the money from volunteering her into this obviously dubious experiment.

Cynical. Sceptical and distrusting, but has a vulnerable heart that she had to build walls around. Will be a tsundere towards those she loves, not wanting to seem weak or soft. Is ultimately a loyal person if you earn her trust.

Has a cheeky mischievous side to her, will only show it if she's close enough to you. Resembles Renge in which she has this innocent childlike demeanour.

She no longer remembers her human name, but was lovingly given the nickname "leeyanyan" by the scientist that was working on her. She uses that as her identity ever since.

A refugee cyborg war machine. Has forgotten all of her memories except for her basic model details as her creators removed them all. She escaped from the organization in rebellion. Constantly on the run.

Before her conversion, she begged the scientist working on her to spare her. While that scientist couldn't do that in fear of punishment for disobeying the superiors, they did keep her memories safe in a memory card and was planning to secretly input it into her after conversion. However, things took an unexpected turn down at the laboratory, so the formed rebellion's plans had to make compromise in order to successfully escape. The scientist didn't make it.

L/leeyanyan doesn’t know how to act and feel like a human anymore and is troubled by that. She only knows how to kill, which she chooses to only do so if threatened.

Uses kunai. Has mechanically enhanced abilities as a robot-human.

What else is there for an adeptus like me?

synopsis: she felt that there's something she could never have.

She wandered at the streets of liyue as per usual, trying to seek out help to those in need but of course with a fair price. But despite of all that yanfei has not been feeling like herself lately, granny and the traveler have noticed the gloomy state of the sweet girl. Even though she tried to convinced them that she's fine and there was nothing to worry about, it's clear as day that she was not.

On the streets of liyue you'll find couples on a date, two elderly couples on their usual midday walk, family in a restaurant. Love, prosperity and abundance filled the scene. Love, yanfei have thought about this a long time, it's truly a strong emotion, a fluttering feeling, a happy one but devastating as well, yanfei thought that love is a curse to the adeptis, it was something they could never have for their immortal life.

"Love" yanfei mumbled and chuckles a little to herself "what a dream isn't it?"

Yanfei have experienced love, to love and feel loved, romantically. It was a fever dream, a fleeting dream, a sudden rush of happiness, it was something she'll come back to when she has the chance to do so. Until reality hits.

"yanyan!"

yanfei turns around and she swore her heart always skips a beat when she heard her nickname.

"baobei" she said fondly as soon as hu tao approached her.

You heard yanfei shout at you from the other room.

“I’m coming!!” you shouted back. 

You finished getting ready, then met her outside your apartment in Luyie. 

“Wonderful! Now, let's go. Here's the plan, we go to the harbor, then we go eat at xianglings, and then..”

She listed off all her day's plans, then grabbed your hand and continued on. She was quick and kept on rushing you to the destinations, but you didn't mind her enthusiasm. You made it to Luyie harbor, made some purchases (cheaper thanks to Yanfei) and wandered with her. You made it to the restaurant and started eating. While you were, it started to rain.

“Rain? Really… After all my plans. Please lord of geo, let this stop!” Yanfei exclaimed.

You chuckled a little, and said,” I don’t mind the rain. It’s calming.” 

You two finished your meal and were about to headout when you realized. No umbrellas.

“ Well this is a predicament. Hey, heres an idea, lets run to the funeral palor, its close. I can steal a couple Umbrellas from Hu Tao."

You two ran to the parlor as fast as you could, trying not to get wet.

"hU TAO." yanfei yelled as she burst into the parlor. "WE NEED YOUR HELP."

"Aiya, quit yelling! What do you need yanyan? Oh, y/n is here with you! Oh I see what's going on.."

"Hey TaoTao, we need a couple umbrellas, can we borrow some?"

"Oya? Ok! But uh. I've only got one to borrow."

You two left and huddled under one umbrella, and became really close. Yanfei whispered,"I'm so glad I have you." She rested her head on yours."And that I can be honest with you. I love being around you. I love you."

 the guard near the police door was inturrupted by the pink-haired girl in front of him shoving a badge and a certificate in his face. 'okay now? can i please now be let in.' she smiled, running towards the entrance of the police station the moment the doors were pulled open. 

'yanfei, legal advisor - have you got a girl called hu tao here?' slapping her documents on the table, she questioned the receptionist. startled, the woman at the front desk hurried to make some calls for the back. 'yes miss, we've got her here-' yanfei sighed. 'take me to her, please.' 

the doors slid open as the girl in the jacket perked up at the noise. 'yanfei!' hu tao, still stuck behind the bars of the cell, extended her arms to try and hug her girlfriend. 'you came!' her smile was as bright as ever. 'what'd you do this time?' yanfei laughed. only hu tao could ever sitll be this bright in a literal prison. 'oh, yknow. the usual. just maybe burned down a building or two.' not even surprised at this point, yanfei turned around towards the exit. 'wait here, you'll be out in just a sec~' 

'hey, i have evidence that the girl you have back there, hu tao - there's video evidence of her not being present at the time of the crime. you have the wrong person.' yanfei, calling in a favor from a friend, handed the memory stick with the faked footage to the policeman. the authorities these days honestly couldn't care less. shoving the pile of documents into their arms, she left towards hu tao's captivity room again. 

'yanyan how long till i'm out of here? i can't even hug my amazing girlfriend in this tiny little cell.' hu tao laughed, creating a flickering butterfly of fire, fluttering through the bars and exploding into bloom approaching yanfei. 'you might not wanna burn down the police station yknow.' yanfei eyed the door, as if an indicator that someone's watching. 'whoops! sorry to the all-powerful and beautiful illuminated beast yanfei for causing you so much trouble~' hu tao, hearing this, immediately covered her mouth as if she'd said something wrong. 'don't worry, i messed around with the security cameras a bit and nobody's outside right now. i've checked.' 

'oh! while we're waiting, give me your hand and close your eyes~' hu tao smiled, and yanfei did as asked. reaching out for the little bottles of nail polish hu tao nearly always carried around for some particular reason, she dipped the brushes in and started painting with the colors of liyue's former glory - yellows and browns, whites and golds. 'what are you doing?' yanfei, curious to see, tried to open her eyes to see. dropping the brush on the ground, hu tao immediately covered her eyes with one hand. 'you'll see!' 

'...alright, open your eyes!' following suit, yanfei held up her hands to see. 'another masterpiece made!' laughing, she took out her phone and held up her hands to the light so her nails were visible in the dimness. ' the entrance was slammed open by a policeman, keys jingling on his belt. he unlocked the door to hu tao's cell and she hopped out, squeezing yanfei in a tight hug. 'thank you thank you!!' taking her hand in her own, yanfei smiled. 'let's go home, shall we?'

She had a very clever, very sneaky, very spooky plan. To sneak into a room shortly after waking up (yanfei woke up earlier, force of habit perhaps), waiting until Yanfei is distracted by a newspaper or something. Then, she's on the prowl. Tip toe tip toe. Announcing every tip toe she does with a 'da da da da', making her plan very obviously not sneaky nor spooky.

But if Yanfei tries to turn around to regard her, that's when Hu Tao hides behind a piece of furniture! Likely not even evading her line of sight, but hopefully she'll play along. Then, when her eyes are off her again, she prowls again, sneaky sneaky, crawling crawling, until suddenly she's behind her, theeeeen....

" BOO! Happy Halloween, Yanyan~. " Cue a cheek smooch. Then a tickle. Because she can probably get away with it from this angle.

Yanfei knows what day it is, how could she not? She is always on top of her schedule and the calendar. Court dates? Got them. Consultations? Remembered. Birthdays? Gifts bought a week in advance. Halloween? Today, of course! Which means she’s on the lookout for anything particularly devious... and that goes from the time she wakes up to the time she puts her head back down on the pillow.

But as enjoyable as it was to keep her eyes on Hu Tao, the top trickster of Liyue, even the adeptus must admit she enjoys antics. Yes, even the ones directed at herself so long as they weren’t too disruptive and didn’t invite any untoward scrutiny towards her practice. Not that she’d expect Hu Tao to do so, but there were always others who might believe they can try worse. Thus, there were going to be times that she ‘lets her guard down’...

Where are you, Hu Tao?

The smallest of creaks after she turns the paper she was reading alerts the well-tuned woman know that the game was afoot. A twist to look behind her reveals nothing to be seen (absolutely nothing at all), but she knew better. All it would take now was a little bit of patience now that she knew the method of approach.

There! Hu Tao really took her time with the creeping and the sneaking on this one. A shame it was to no avail. Without sign or warning, the legal advisor spins again in her seat, and a sharp hand delivers a strike to Hu Tao’s head before she can attack!

“CHOP!” That forehead is bonked in time with the sudden shout, and the assault is stopped in place. Was Hu Tao scared? Sure looked like it to her. Yanfei grins as amusement bubbles off the rest of her features and a glitter in her eye. That she was so stunned meant it was now a great opening for her to hop up and plant a nice kiss square on her nose before patting both her cheeks. Yes, all that smugness was going to be savored.

“Sorry I stole your moment, Taotao~ Happy Halloween! Are you ready for your day? I'm sure you have more tricks in store for me later- that one was fun. Hopefully you’re not too upset with me. Don’t worry. I’ll be making it all up to you later. For now, I think we should get going. Unless you need a moment. I don’t mean to rush you~”

Hu Tao whipped past crowds of people, Yanfei in tow. 

Lights dazzled the night sky, the moon just a backdrop. Xiao lanterns scattered the deep, dark blue, the closest Liyue had ever been to stars. Nothing in life seemed as bright as that night, not the stars or the sun. 

Well, maybe Hu Tao. Yanfei thinks so, knows so.

Hu Tao was the brightest star in her life.

The chatter of people was deafening for her, the shouts and whispers and laughing. Yanfei could hear it all, louder for her than anyone else. Adepti blood running in her veins never seemed like such a curse until now.

But when Hu Tao laughed and spoke and excitedly shouted… Yanfei smiled with her. She squeezed their intertwined hands all the more, rubbing little hearts with her thumb. Pressing a kiss on her beloved’s cheek any moment she got. The sight of a red face was so endearing, her heart threatening to explode.

Then they were running past stalls and cooks. She fed Hu Tao whatever she got her hands on. Grilled tiger fish, Lotus flower crisps, Almond Tofu. She held them for Hu Tao, not allowing her to touch it. She cooed at Hu Tao’s red face, covering her face with her free hand. 

Dark, flowered eyes brimming with joy and something Yanfei couldn’t name, she could’ve watched Hu Tao’s eyes all night long. Even with all the other people and sights and sounds and smells, all she could focus on was Hu Tao.

From the red in her eyes to the plum blossoms tucked in her hair, Yanfei’s heart swelled. She stared and kissed and loved Hu Tao as much as she could, ears burning with her own forwardness. Hu Tao was no better.

“Happy Lantern Rite Tao.”

The scene Xiao and Aether walk into is as follows:

Chongun, seated in the middle of Keqing’s couch. One of her decorative throw pillows — forced upon her by her parents, along with said couch — held up and pressed against his face and audibly muffling his frustrated yelling.

Xingqiu, to Chongyun’s left, arms around Chongyun’s waist and head leaning on Chongyun’s shoulder. Not quite obscured enough by Chongyun yelling into a pillow to hide the full on smirk as he watches his boyfriend.

Xinyan, to Chongyun’s right, with her teeth bared in a truly worrisome grin.

Hu Tao at Chongyun’s feet, leaning her elbow on one of his knees, looking up with him with a certain expression on her face that calls to mind a cat about to bully a mouse in between its paws just for the sake of it.

To round them all of Yanfei is sitting on the other side of Keqing’s coffee table, legs spread out underneath it as she leans back on her palms.

Xiao immediately attemps to turn around and walk out. Aether’s arm snakes around Xiao’s waist and pulls him back in.

“I want to se where this is going,” Aether replies. “Think of it as live theater.”

Xiao doesn’t say anything, but he allows himself to be pulled into the apartment with great reluctance. He shoots Keqing a look as he passes her. She looks at him, at the ensemble in her living room, then back at him with an expression that clearly reads “no blood, no problem”.

“Didi,” Yanfei says. “You’re being so rude right now.”

“Xiao Yun,” Xinyan coos.

“Xiao Yunyun.” Hu Tao giggles.

“Xiao Yunyun-er,” Xingqiu kisses Chongyun’s hair. The volume of Chongyun’s screaming only increases. The pillow being pressed to his face is in serious danger of being ripped apart by the man’s grip.

“Xiao A-Yunyun-er,” Hu Tao and Xinyan slap palms as they try to restrain themselves from full on laughing and cackling. Their fingers link and hook together as they attempt to school their features.

Chongyun rips his face out of the pillow. Between attempting to smother himself, screaming, and pure frustration he looks redder than Yanfei’s favorite leather bound work planner.

“You can’t just keep tacking them on like that!” Chongyun’s voice cracks. There is an audible crack that sends the three women and Xingqiu off the edge. All four of them burst into mad cackling.

“Says who, ah?” Yanfei asks, “Who died and made you the name police?”

“What would you know, Xiao Yunyun-di?” Hu Tao asks, patting his knee. “Listen to your elders. Yanyan, Feifei, and I have much more worldly experience than you. We definitely know what we’re doing.” “And I,” Xingqiu says, “Am your gege, so you definitely should trust me when I say these are all valid.”

“You’re all terrible people,” Chongyun says. “Don’t you have anything better to do than to gang up and bully me? I’m an adult. Stop calling me the names. My own parents don’t call me these names. My grandparents don’t call me these names.”

“Shenhe calls you Xiao Yun,” Xingqiu says.

“Who’s Shenhe?” Aether asks, plopping down next to Yanfei. He kicks her legs until she makes room for him underneath the coffee table. “And why are we bullying Chongyun today?”

“The relative from out of town,” Xinyan answers, “She’s technically, like, in his parent’s generation but she’s almost our age. Maybe a few years older than Xiao-ge and Gan-jie.”

“We’re not bullying didi,” Hu tao protests, stretching her leg out to kick Aether’s. “We’re just affectionately calling his name. As you do.”

“You are using everything but my name,” Chongyun protests. He twists Hu Tao’s ear. Hu Tao slaps his thigh until he lets her go. “If you were actually using my name we wouldn’t be having this discussion right now.”

“I happen to think it’s very cute,” Xingqiu says.

“Yeah, no one’s calling you A-Xing-er,” Chongun snipes. “Or Xiao Qiu. Xiao Qiu-er. A-Xiao Qi-er.”

“Oh, Xiao Qiu is cute.”

Everyone turns to see Yun Jin coming in, followed up by Ganyu. Both of them carrying large cardboard trays with tea orders.

“Yun Jin, what’s your birthdate?” Chongyun demands. “I need to settle this right now.”

Yun Jin’s eyebrows raise. “That’s very bold of you, Chongyun. Asking me for my date with your boyfriend’s arms around you. What will you do if they’re very auspicious? You’ll have to convince me. I’m not quite ready to enter a relationship right now, you know.”

Chongyun’s coloring, which had begun to calm down, returns to a full ruddy red in force.

“Not like that!” He squawks. “I want to confirm who’s older! You all know that’s not what I mean! What’s the matter with you?”

“I’m being cheated on right in front of my very eyes,” Xingqiu laments, putting a hand to his forehead as he pretends to swoon into the couch, flopping his upper body away from Chongyun’s. “How could you be so cold, baobei?”

“It’s that abundance of yang energy,” Hu Tao says sagely, “He can no longer be satisfied by one person alone. I’m so disappointed in you, A-Yunyun-er.”

Chongyun, for reasons no one could put to words but could still understand innately, turns to Xiao who’s been watching this whole affair play out from where he’s been standing next to Keqing. The two of them have been having a silent conversation of judgmental glances, raised eyebrows, and near inaudible scoffs.

“Dage,” Chongyun says, “I’m being bullied.”

“Spoken like a true didi,” Yanfei mutters, nudging Aether with her elbow. “Now let’s see if the dage instincts kick in.”

Everyone turns to Xiao.

Xiao just stares at them all.

“I am not involved in this,” Xiao declares. “But if I was involved, I would point out that immediately asking someone else to intercede on your behalf as you are now does make you look like the baby of the group no matter what you try and argue.”
