hello here we are again, in the deep deep hole we can keep digging for ourselves in a desperate attempt to figure out all of harry’s lyrics. i’ve been at this for a bit now and it feels like i know nothing. and then there’s a shakespeare reference i should get into?????

OTHELLO, SHAKESPEARE

Othello has many twists and turns in intrigue, all including the classic human weaknesses of jealousy, deceit, selfishness, wrath, mistrust and miscommunication. The storyline centres around Othello, a general of the Venetian army, originally from the north of Africa. (An integral part of the play is the subject of his skin tone, as it causes racism with those opposing his marriage, but this has little to do with this post, so if you want to grasp a bit more of the storyline, you can always google it or watch this very enlightening video.)

(Lemme give a summary real quick, with very blurry details just so the post makes sense)

STORYLINE:

Othello gives Cassio (army person close to Othello) raise

-> Iago (army person close to Othello) angry

-> Iago gets Cassio drunk and starts a fight

-> another dude gets injured, Cassio is blamed for everything

-> Othello strips him of his rank

-> Iago convinces Cassio to get close to Desdemona (Othello's wife) to get his rank back

-> Iago sows doubt with Othello about how close Desdemona and Cassio are getting

-> Iago convinces Othello of Desdemona’s infidelity

-> Othello makes Iago his lieutenant, convinced he’s the only one to be trustworthy

-> Iago plays a trick (w a handkerchief, look it up if you want) and Othello now thinks Desdemona’s cheating has been physically proven

-> Othello swears to kill D and tells I to kill Cassio

-> Iago convinces other guy to kill Cassio instead

-> plot to kill Cassio fails and Iago has to kill the other guy to keep the scheme quiet, leaving him and Cassio injured

-> Iago blames it all on a courtesan Cassio was involved with

-> Othello murders Desdemona

-> Emilia (Iago’s wife) sees all and realises Iago was the manipulator of it all (bc she figures out the trick from earlier)

-> Iago kills her

-> Othello kills himself

Long story short, Iago and Cassio both want (to be close to) Othello. Either for personal gain or due to emotional desires, they’re going pretty far to earn this man’s attention and affection. Since Othello is married to Desdemona, she is the centre of Iago and Cassio’s plans to get closer to Othello. Cassio wants to get close to Desdemona to get her to mediate between him and Othello, while Iago will convince Othello that Desdemona has been unfaithful and thus drive them apart so Iago can take on the role closest to Othello. A popular interpretation of Othello is to especially see Iago’s character as one driven by jealousy caused by homosexual desires.

The reading of Iago as a homosexual, as well as general gay tension between all three main men, is encouraged, as usual, by Shakespeare’s ambiguous writing. To give some examples (all Act III - Scene III)

(Of course, “love” between these “friends” can be interpreted as platonic, nothing romantic at all. But the layers of ambivalence that Shakespeare deliberately left us aren’t to be ignored just bc the word “love” doesn’t necessarily have a romantic connotation.)

Othello @ Iago (in the middle of Iago deceiving O to make him believe Cassio and Desdemona are involved)

Iago’s words here can be interpreted as “you don’t want to know my thoughts bc i am currently deceiving you” or “you don’t wanna know what’s on my mind bc i want your dick and unconditional love and i also want it to be all mine, babe. no sharing”

“my nature’s plague” def sounds like he’s not a fan of his natural urges.

here iago says he doesn’t blame desdemona for falling in love with othello, since it’s happened to him too. othello’s reply sounds like a wedding vow

Basically, during this entire scene, Iago goes on to sow doubt with Othello, while constantly reminding him of his love. Then Othello asks for cold hard proof that Cassio and Desdemona are involved and Iago tells the story of how he heard Cassio talk in his sleep.

SO all these were details necessary to understand the so-called “sex dream” in Othello, which coincidentally happens to contain the nice little word group we’re trying to get to the bottom of:

“sweet creature”

ofc that little stage hoe menace would choose the fucking double-entenred sexually charged scene to grab inspiration from for a cute lil love song

I’ll place it here for you to read first:

So basically, Iago tells Othello Cassio's had a loud dream about embracing Desdemona, while actually physically embracing Iago and calling him “sweet creature”. It’s very important to remember at this point that these are all made-up stories by Iago, so he has created this fantasy on his own. The ambiguity of “to lay with” is pleasantly planted there as well, just to make it all a bit more spicy. Iago is blatantly telling Othello that Cassio was kissing and grinding on him in his sleep. Or, you know, that Iago’s imagined that happening. The words “sweet creature” are supposedly uttered by Cassio to Desdemona in his dream, yet it’s Iago who has thought of them, as if Cassio had uttered them to him. All super nice and gay, if you ask me. And why tell this to Othello? Why add those details? Wanna make Othello jealous of you and Cassio, mate? What’s up? Don't be shy, you can tell us. Without causing the deaths of everyone close to you.

The scene ends with these words:

Another interesting detail I can’t fail to mention is Iago’s tendency to use gardens and plants as metaphors in his speech. Like in the dream story, where he describes kisses to be growing from his lips, rooted there, which Cassio is trying to pull out. Some especially memorable quotes by Iago:

“Our bodies are our gardens, to which our wills are gardeners; so that if we will plant nettles or sow lettuce, set hyssop and weed up thyme . . . the power and corrigible authority of this lies in our wills” (I.iii.317–322).

“Though other things grow fair against the sun, / Yet fruits that blossom first will first be ripe” (II.iii.349–350)

Iago, as pointed out above, is very in touch with nature and how humans are always part of that, whether they like it or not. In some ways he seems to say you can manipulate nature by sheer force of will, yet in others he seems to think his nature is something he can only follow, like with what he says about “his nature’s plague” in Act III.

So yeah, that’s basically what you need to know about Othello to get the Sweet Creature link. I'll get into what this might mean from Harry’s point of view below.

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN

You might be wondering in what fucking hole have i fallen it's too deep i wanna get out but well bestie you're in this fandom and that's how shit goes around here so you can't be surprised. This one's all the one and only @bluewinnerangel 's work, since she's the one who brought this to my attention, once again, as so many things. Genius at work over there, go give her a follow if you're not already. Anyhow, it's time you've listened to this song in the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack: 'Snow'.

As most of you might know, Brokeback Mountain, is a famous gay cowboy movie. For this reason, and this reason only, the audio parallel to Sweet Creature is an immaculate choice. Sneaky gay asshole Harry Fucking Styles has managed to blatantly copy a melody from this cult movie about a secret gay love. Are you kidding me?

The movie is set in the 60s in the US and homophobia is a huge part of the plot, causing the men to keep their homosexuality a secret in fear of not getting jobs or even getting killed. Their love is very physical and very real, though, so throughout their entire life they struggle trying to live hidden/apart. There's also the famous line "I wish I knew how to quit you" that sounds a whole lot like the love is a drug and i'm addicted to you thing h & l got going on.

(And if you don't really buy this little run, listen to 'The Wings' from the same soundtrack and then to From the Dining Table. It's like a fan piece, just a lil faster.)

SYNTHESIS

ALRIGHT.

Might seem a lot of Shakespeare for just a simple lyric analysis post, but I needed it to tie it all in even if it was just for me to know and so I assumed you’d love to be involved in this mess as well.

First of all,

I interpret the main parallel with Othello as Harry painting himself, once again, as a jealous lover. He’s literally sung about himself as “being of the jealous kind” and it’s no secret at all that if someone gets their hands on his lover there is some lethal switch that turns on. Don’t get me wrong - I don’t think Harry would start murderous plots in order to secure his lover’s affections, but I’m very sure Harry recognises the desire to be the sole recipient of said affections, without the distractions of others who have their eyes on his lover. Whether or not Othello is happy in his marriage to a woman, it’s still a theme in the play, and if we interpret Iago’s motives through the lens of jealousy, we can easily draw the parallel to Harry’s life. H loves someone who is “taken”, or at least “officially”. Iago is full of self-deprecation, which hs1 is riddled with as well. Self-hate, lack of self-acceptance, and even if there is self-acceptance, it’s mixed with that hate. Iago’s repressed sexuality, when interpreted that way, has driven him to such extreme actions that he’d rather see the one he loves and everyone around him destroyed than settling to witness his lover spending his life with another. A pretty intense figure to identify yourself with, but there are more than enough clues in Harry’s other lyrics that show this side of him: unforgiving towards those who mess with his lover, making him drown in that jealousy.

Iago’s character in the play is a cunning, complicated one, but especially deceitful and cruel (esp to women), so I don’t think Harry would want a connection to be drawn between a murderous theatre character and this kind, warm love song. I’d think, if there even if this deep connection to Othello in the first place (there’s things we’ll never know) (but it’s a beautiful connection to make, with all the parallels), the side of Iago’s personality that honors nature and connects the human body to nature is something that should be especially highlighted. It’s this human nature that can’t be twisted or turned, no matter how you try to fight it. It’s parts of yourself that you can help grow and make better, or even purposefully make worse. It’s the body as a garden, where the line “running through the garden” then becomes nice and interesting in a very Harry way. yk like smiling sweetly at you while making a sex joke. “Where nothing bothered us” then ties in again with the common theme in H (and L)’s music where the bedroom is sacred, where they’re properly connected and finally in private and lose control or whatever.

Whatever the Othello interpretation may be, the words "sweet creature" are famously from this play, and it's not a common phrase in general, so my belief in the title of the song, at least, being a reference to those words spoken in the play, stands very strong. It is a known "gay Shakespeare thing", as it's a scene with two men sharing a bed, when it all comes down to it. And Harry referenced this, and it's important as fuck.

Second of all,

this song is the beacon of hope on hs1, in between all the desperately sad songs that deal with break-ups, depression, loneliness. I fucking love hs1, but I can’t listen to it like Fine Line, bc it really fills me with a sadness about life, which is the exact opposite with FL for me. And that’s all perfectly fine, since Harry needed to get that off his chest and he’s also an emotional sad lil gay and we need to let him have his dramatic emo moments. BUT Sweet Creature, my saviour, screams hope and the absolute faith that they stand strong and always will. It’s a soft love song, with the kind of sentiments filling every line that only an established love can. They’ve known each other for ages, been through a lot, and despite everything, they’re each other’s home and that will never change. It’s how it started and how it’ll end. In my readings of songs like Meet Me in the Hallway, i also saw that same faith, that firm belief that they’ll always share this life. And we need that yk. They need that, and we live vicariously through them, so it’s a good thing it’s sorted. And if you’re still on the fence on the whole are-they-together bit: look.

Home is at the centre of Harry’s art. It’s a common thread across his two albums now, as well as the songs he wrote in the band. Same goes for Louis. At some point they established this strong feeling of home as the other person. They were always on the road, and if they were on the road, they had each other as an anchor, and if they were home, they also shared that space. And they turned it into a religion, almost. The most obvious song to point to is Home, of course, written by Louis (among others, but most importantly him ofc), but there’s many others.

that really is all I needed to get off my chest in terms of Sweet Creature. I'm sure there are more and deeper holes to dig, but this is where my brain space pulls to a halt. Who knows, maybe that garden shit is way more than it seems? Maybe the whole Othello thing is a total waste of time and Harry is laughing in his fist rn. But I'd like to think it's not, and that this person who is becoming more and more entrenched in queer culture and the community at large purposefully referenced this work of art that has been famously interpreted through a gay lens long before Harry was even born. That he imitated a melody from a famous gay movie and wove that into the main love song on his debut album.

He knows so much about queer history and culture and references it all the fucking time, and it's up to us to pay attention. This force of nature isn't just wandering through his solo career slapping sounds together with words that could make a hit and climb the charts. He is actively placing his work in the library of queer art and it has to be honored and celebrated.

I looove origin stories.

So here is mine, I was veeeery bored stuck in home office back in 2020. With the world being extra shit, struck by the pandemic and well Trump pissing me off daily, I leaned into watching my favorite Late Night shows like those with Seth Meyers, Trevor Noah, Stephen Colbert, James Corden. I watched everything that had the potential of lifting my spirits.

So I ended up with a whole bunch of carpool karaoke videos. Including both of Harry’s.

About my background back then: I didn’t know anything about One Direction. I knew Harry from his first album which I listened to back in summer 2017. The album hit home in many ways but especially with my own melancholy I felt at the time (going through some stuff in 2017) HS1 had become my soundtrack and Harry’s voice became a soothing companion at the time. For that, he will always have a special place in my heart. But truthfully lyrically his album made no sense to me. Harry in general made no sense to me. I didn’t feel closer to him listening to his album, because to me the songs had a maturity Harry himself didn’t really incorporate for me. Wasn’t he pulling left and right, dating It girls and influencers, definitely no one who seems to be interested in serious commitment. Yet he sang of love with such knowledge and depth that I thought he definitely had some help writing the songs, or they weren’t his own altogether. I was what I would call gp for years and no one can tell me going into this fandom, that marketed het Harry makes sense. Because I’ve been there. He doesn’t.

After watching Harry’s carpool karaoke, the One Direction carpool karaoke came up next and I think around the time YouTube recommended a Larry video. I thought it was just some cute fan video from One Direction days but I understood from the title that Harry and this always grumpy looking dude (wasn’t that the guy with the oops baby?) were made a fan favorite friendship or whatever? I really only clicked because it had over a million views. I only clicked because I thought I was oblivious to a very known thing. I was. And holy shit, NOW Harry made sense. NOW I understood HS1. It was like a veil was lifted from my eyes and I was somehow finally allowed into Harry’s world. When I saw Louis through Harry’s eyes, I fell just as much for him. So here we are now.

Thank you for this ask. I know you sent this ages ago but I've been waiting until I had time to answer because this is not an easy question.

I CANNOT rank them so i'll list them in chronological order instead.

From the 1D days, I love If I Could Fly and Olivia and Perfect are absolute bops. They all make me smile as soon as I hear them.

HS1 - Sign Of The Times is where my Harry journey started so it will always have a place in my heart. It's the song I put on when I'm feeling a bit down and need a kick up the backside. Kiwi is awesome. There isn't a song on the entire album that I skip, even now.

Fine Line - Treat People, like Olivia and Perfect, always makes me smile. To Be So Lonely, Sunflower Vol. 6 and Canyon Moon are my go to songs - always start with them.

Harry's House - I love all three that we've heard so far and I CANNOT wait to hear the rest. I think we're in for a treat, for sure.

Basically, you can put on any Harry song and I'll be a happy bunny. I hope this answered your question.

It might seem silly, but I appreciate your post that's like, hey, it's ok not to like Harry. You don't have to.

I saw Harry live twice when he was touring HS1, and ngl, the show was amazing and he can put on a show if wants to. But I.. I just can't find a way in to him any more; I still like past Harry, but post HS1 Harry? Pass.

Keep the pecs, the smugness, and the 'look at me I'm so transgressive' fashion. He's really talented but wow, he's no longer using his powers for good or even mischief. It was the combo of watermelon sugar that was a full on breaking point--there is really no way to make that tie.

And yet, I'm still afraid to admit to this on main. Which is ridiculous.

But how on earth can you believe that the person Louis seems to be has a relationship of ANY kind with the person Harry seems to be? That would mean you think *Louis* is entirely faking who he is, what he thinks is important or meaningful.

There's a way where it seems really hard to see Larries as fans of Louis's, because Louis only seems to exist in relation to Harry. Louis must be lying / trapped / completely passive, his own words, actions and art discounted, in order to make Larry work. Larry only works, I think, if you essentially say to Louis, I don't care who you say you are or what you do, "my understanding of who you are is greater than and more important than yours." And I'm not talking about his sexuality here at all, even!

TL:dr I don't see how you can like Louis and believe Larry at the same time right now. I just can't make that work.

Long story short, I agree!

To think that Harry and Louis are together in 2021, after everything that has happened... is honestly just delusional. Not only delusional, but an insult to Louis' character and intelligence.

I think it's selfish of anyone to still want that relationship to be real. To place it's importance over Louis' music. To fill comment sections with blue and green hearts, to make every post, every announcement, every new project about Larry. Even to go to the My Policeman set and scream "Larry is real" while they are filming. That is just selfish, and immature, and embarrassing.

I've never been to a Harry show, but I don't doubt he puts on a good one. I'll never knock his talent because I do think the boy can sing and used to have oodles of charisma, so I know it's in there somewhere. I just no longer have any interest in him. I don't like the person he's become and he is not someone I choose to spend any time, energy or money supporting. I see nothing in his eyes. I am entitled to feel this way, as are you anon.

I was once a Larrie. But I think I was pretty sensible and respectful. I wasn't making posts about top or bottom. I wasn't harassing their family, friends, ex-bandmates, or business partners. Their relationship was not more important to me than their careers. I think that's how it should be.

Ultimately anon, you have a decision to make. To break free of the Larry strong grip and speak your mind, or to watch silently and ignore what you know to be true. Do what is best for you. It's not easy, but it's not impossible. You will always be welcome here, and I know plenty of Louies who feel the same and would welcome you with open arms.

Enigmatic Symbolism Of Ocean/Ship/Star

Ocean = A lifetime

We sailed the ocean and drowned in the waves.

Waves try to break it, I’d do anything to save it.

Waves = Management / Difficulties

My hands, your hands tied up like two ships.

I want to build you a boat, one that’s strong as you are free.

Ship = Soul

I think I’m gonna win this time riding on the wind and I won’t give up. I roll and I roll, ‘til I change my luck.

Wind = A reminder of memories that holding you together and moved you forward

Whistles = Voices of memories

You’ve got stars, they’re in your eyes

Star = A guidance coming from your lover’s eyes

Interpretation:

Louis and Harry made a lot of references about ocean/waves/stars. Not just with the lyrics but with their tattoos. They tried to show their life by choosing sea life as their representation. Harry has got a star (under it “won’t stop ‘till we surrender…”), swallow, ship, anchor; Louis has got a compass and a rope tattoo. Shall we interpret the lyrics while holding the tattoos in our minds and witness their life from a different perspective? We shall…

For set the scene; Imagine a ship in the middle of the ocean, alone. There’s no guidance to show him where it goes, there’s no company to accompany it. There’s no hope for survival. Every second it stays here, it sinks deeper due to waves keep increasing around. Wind doesn’t stop by and whistles. The sky is dark, clarified from stars. There’s nothing which ship has to move forward or to support itself.

But then someday the ship finds himself a company, a matching soul.

“There’s a lightning in your eyes I can’t deny then there’s me inside a sinking boat, running out of time, without you I’ll never make it out alive but I know, yes I know we’ll be alright.”

He, himself, is a sinking boat but at the last minute, he confronts light that makes him a believer of the sanguine future. But, where does this light come from? Who lights the sky?

Yes, stars. Light comes from stars and lights the sky. If the sky falls down, where will stars go?

“The sky fell down but you’ve got stars, they’re in your eyes.”

“For your eyes only, I’ll show you my heart.”

In real life, stars don’t hang up in the sky at least the ones which enlighten your darkness. They are buried in the souls. Like they say “The eyes are the windows of the soul.” They are the guardians of a gate before the light, to every visitor who seeks to see through, they show their deepest parts. If eyes come across a person who carries a part of their soul within themselves, the gate opens up and sets his light free.

“When you’re lost, I’ll find the way. I’ll be your light.”

The ship was lost, then someday another ship came along and things changed. Now the ship has a company, so the hope follows after. What about the guidance?

The guidance is them. Neither of them knows where to go, however, they have an idea about where to belong or who to belong. They are each other’s light. If one of them is lost, the other one will find the way and be the other’s light. So, where does light bring you?

“You’re the shining distraction that makes me fly home.”

“All my life I’ve been on my own, I use a light to guide me home.”

Home.

To sum it up: One soul (ship) was lost. He was trying to survive from obstacles of life (waves) but he was alone in his misery. Then someday another soul came along. They have been found in each other. The memories they made together kept them alive and moved them forward. When obstacles tried to sink them deeper, they held on each other. Shore couldn’t be seen from where they stood, but they were each other’s ground already. Darkness filled up the sky, but the light was awaiting in the eyes of themselves to shine through the dark. Their light brings them a home that’s found within each other.

Harry’s using the water since HS1 era but with Fine Line, he was finally able to show his story through it.

‟The Boy tried to ignore the fish but he was not alone in his melancholy. Loneliness is an ocean full of travelers trying to find their place in the world. But without friendship we are all lost & left with no hope, no home, no harbor.”

Sounds like a story I just told…

When he finally found the fish in the ocean that represents loneliness, he was no longer lonely nor lost. He found hope, a harbor, a home…

But a complication showed itself:

Two ships (souls) were traveling in the ocean (a lifetime) then stopped on one shore (1D). They weren’t welcomed here. People frowned upon them, they were executed from society ‘cause in the society grown used to how the things were, no one knew what to do with something… different.

With time they’ve spent on the shore, they changed people’s opinions. Their light became an inspiration for others who caught it. However, one day they had to leave from the shore because some people still couldn’t accept them for who they are. One of the ships (the fish) sailed before the other one’s. Why? To confront the difficulties before them reach to other ship (the boy).

When the fish was gone, the boy left as well. He was able to sail on the surface ‘cause he has the control of the ship. The memories of the fish hold him together and the memories of the past moved him forward (wind/the bottles that the boy has filled).

Now they’re both traveling; The boy’s on the surface of the sea, open. He can be seen by anyone. The fish’s underneath the waves, fighting with them. He can’t be seen by anyone but that doesn’t mean there aren’t people who recognize what he’s doing, how hard he tries to survive from the waves.

Also don’t forget this:

‟Maybe you’ll be invited to a wedding between two neighbors whom it took an ocean to bring together.”

Let’s continue with some recent lyrics;

“Hold it, focus, hoping. Take me back to the light. I know you were way too bright for me. I’m hopeless, broken so you wait for me in the sky.”

“Take me back to the light.” according to how I interpreted before, I think it means “Take me back to you.” The brightness comes with the symbolism of stars and they used stars as metaphor of the person they love.

“If the truth tell, darling, you fell like there ain’t enough dying stars in your sky.”

Every star has their own glitter like every person has their own painting. Each color completes in different arts and each glitter shines over different lives. Every person has a star, themselves.

And this lyric…

Think about all the members of lgbt community. Paint them in your mind as beautiful shining stars. Colorful, glamorous, illuminative. But with each shadow’s been thrown on them, their brightness has faded away. Through the years they turned from “shining stars” to “dying stars”.

“If the truth tell” If the real difficulties lgbt people have, is told to everyone… “darling, you fell like there ain’t enough stars in your sky” like how they’ve suffered, how they’ve faded away… “It’s a tall tale…“ It becomes a tall tale to tell… “It’s only hello, hello, no goodbye.” and this tale only has a beginning but no end..

However let’s not forget:

“The darker it gets the brighter the stars become.”

That’s how I interpreted the sea/star symbolism. If we place the tattoos;

There’s a ship (soul) who’s traveling, then there’s his compass so as not to get lost while braving the unpredictable ocean (life). Ship has an anchor that embodies the concept of stability, then there’s a rope to stabilize. (A person who has firm support, can overcome any tests sent to him by fate.)

There’s a star for him to carry a part of the guidance with himself. Wherever the ship goes, the star (lover/lover’s eyes) will always be his way back home. Also star’s the symbol of following your dreams, independence and finding one’s own way in life. “won’t stop ‘till we surrender…” tattoo is a dream he wants it to happen, his own way in life that’s ended with independence.

There are two swallows; one for himself, one for his lover. They are used as the symbol to represent a sailing experience (lifetime). They are the symbol of love and travel and it was believed that after the death of the sailor, the swallows would carry their soul to heaven. They’re the reminders of a lifetime experience you spent/spend/will spend with your lover. Symbols of love, situated on the chest, the closest place to a heart. For one day when their time on the earth comes to an end, the swallows will be recognized by the heart. They will always belong to one another like their souls will and when the time comes heaven will be their to share.

Louis’ tattoos are the hands on the back of Harry’s tattoos, guiding them, reassuring them, protecting them. And Harry’s are the reminders, dreams and hopes he hoped to see with Louis. They’re both carrying a story on their skin and this story has a meaning if you see the two sides.

“Remember, there are always two sides to every story. Understanding is a three edged sword. Your side, their side and the truth in the middle.”

how would you analyize or interpret the song walls?cause i‘ve heard a lot of people say it‘s a break up song as it‘s written in past tense and basically saying he‘s stronger now after a break up (maybe even from a toxic relationship), he‘s risen above it and it doesn‘t really sound like a love song about an ongoing romance, does it?

Hi anon this is going to be a long one bc there is no quick answer to this so just know you asked for this.

First let's get one thing straight the ones who claim Walls [the album in general] is a break up album are the "Rads" short for Radical Louies. Essentially they are toxic louies who once were a larry shipper [not even a real larrie] but now hate Harry bc their mad Louis hasn't gotten the same promo and solo opportunities Harry has and some how in their eyes that's Harry's fault. They don't see it was Syco trying to sabotage Louis and in no way is Louis being sabotaged Harry's fault. Rads try to twist the truth and believe Harry left Louis for fame so since they hate Harry they have twisted the meaning of Walls to in their head a break up from a toxic relationship. They also really want LT2 to be a HUGE SHADE break up album which is 100% not the case so don't believe their crap.

Tho I heard you may have sent this same ask to others [who probably ignored you] so there is a chance you are a rad trying to find out what larries believe. Either way if you are a confused larrie or an undercover rad you probably need this info that no one else will bother giving you the time of day to tell you but I myself thought why not I'll answer you.

Second Louis and Harry have been happily in love for 10 years and have not officially broken up. Yes they have had issues like any couple does but it did not stem from eachother their issues stemed from them being forcibly closeted, the stunt gfs and their labels thus their songs are not break up songs but songs about not being able to be free and forced to fake date others when all they want is to publicly be with the one they love.

Now that that is out of the way here's why Walls is about Louis loving one person and one person only since he was 18. I'm doing the whole album [minus TOU] bc it is impossible to state why Walls the song is not a break up song without mentioning the others like Too Young [which rads also claim as a break up song] bc the album as a whole paints the whole picture.

KMM is definitely the sexual song of Walls [not No Control type sexual but just we click right from the start sexual] It has the I just met you and we are figuring one another out vibe [both physically and just as people] and how right from the start Louis craves Harry and his attention. It has a similar vibe to Watermelon Sugar which Harry said is about the euphoria of falling in love and the way the other person makes you feel right from the start. Louis in KMM is saying I've just meet someone and they are now all I think about, crave and I don't know how I would be able to live without them.

Don't Let It Break Your Heart:

And I know you left apart of you in New York under your bed in a box, but your doing better.

Flashback to HS1 "Ever Since New York" seems like they both love to mention something happening in NY with their lover. We may never know what happened but it's always a funny coincidence when they mention the same places in their songs almost like their singing about the same situation.

Life gets hard and it gets messed up when you give so much, but it's not enough when the highs to high and the lows to low when you love somone and they let you go.

As I stated before their issues involved the stunts [fake dating women] so when Louis says love someone and they let you go he means when his lover gave into what they were being told to do for the sake of their careers. As young as they were when this all started it's hard not to think they may have fell for the lies being fed to them. So Harry let "Louis go" by being seeing with a ton of women gaining himself the brand of "lady's man" while also being forced to watch Louis be with someone else [Eleanor] and publicly act like that was the one he loved. Harry wrote the song Just a Little Bit of Your Heart which is a prime exactly of those feelings. Harry loves Louis so much but he only gets to love him privately while Eleanor gets to loves him publicly and as Harry wrote a little bit of your love is better then none.

Were driving down a one way road to something better. What hurts you is going to pass you'll be doing better.

This shows they know the pain all the bad things thrown their way won't stick around forever. They will overcome this and one day they will see the light at the end of the tunnel or the rainbow after the storm.

We Made It:

Cause we made it, Underestimated and always underrated. Now we're saying goodbye waving to the hard time yeah it's gonna be already.

Do I need to explain it I would say the title alone and this chorus makes it very clear. Break up who when where how? They had hard ships but NOT from their own doing. WMI is about how decpite all they were put through they made it. Flashback to Harry HS1 tour with Kacey in a rainbow dress at MSG in front of 36k people singing "[their/where] still together still going strong." They want you to know nothing will break them apart no matter how hard anyone tries. We are keeping the bad in the past and moving forward to a better tomorrow.

Share a single bed and tell each other what we dream about. Things we'd never say to someone else out loud.

This reminds me of their Xfactor days or early 1D tour days bc in 1D interviews it was always made clear they would share rooms and also how on the bus Louis bunk was filled with his junk so where did he sleep then? Also there are many former Xfactor contestants that have come out and said they were forced to be in the closet on the show. Flashback to an article claiming the people in charge of the 2010 Xfactor season tried to hide and keep a same sex couple apart wonder who that was? That line is about when they were young and the late nights they spent together wondering how their future was going to go. They were still just big smiles, wide eyed, oblivious young boys when they imagined only good things to come of the future with them and the band.

We were only kids just trying to work it out. Wonder what they'd say if they could see us now?/ Don't know why they put all of this on us when we're so young. Done a pretty good job dealing with it all.

We were only kids [when Louis fell in love with said person] and we're so young reminds me of Harry's song To Be So Lonely where he says "Don't blame me for falling I was just a little boy." They both mention falling in love at a young age and both mention how after all this time they are still just as in love as back then but just a little less naive/oblivious. They are both hinting at a higher person [their label/management] who didn't approve of their love and telling them it wasn't going to work out. Harry going you can't be mad at me I was only a boy and Louis going wonder what would happen if they saw us now meaning look we didn't let you win. They tried so hard to separate Louis and Harry but it didn't work and Louis wants us and THEM especially to know they are still very much together, they handled it as best at they could and they weren't going to let them keep Louis and Harry apart.

Meet you at your uni, cheap drink, drink em all night

This is what we call a stunt line to push a narrative. Harry does stunt songs [Carolina and Cherry] while Louis does stunt lines. This line is suppose to allude to the album being for Eleanor [bc she went to Manchester Uni] but the rest of the album is so clearly not for her. If this song was about a break up from Harry then why would they bother adding in a stunt line about Eleanor when the public story is El and Louis are happily still together with Louis planning to marry her? Unless Walls isn't a break up album and it's very loudly Louis declaring him and Harry are still happily together and they wanted to try and force the image that Louis is happily in love with Eleanor. Also funny how this album is gender neutral and has no she pronouns in it unlike Zayn's new album having she pronouns.

Too Young:

We were to young to know we had everything. Too Young, I wish I could've seen it all along. I'm sorry that I hurt you, darling, no we were to young

This song is all about how when Harry was only 16 and he was 18 [Louis himself saying the song is about meeting the one at 18] he was to young to realize he had the best lover he was ever going to have, he had it all. As I said before issues in songs = management/stunts and this is Illuding to how Louis let them minupulate them and do what it was they wanted aka stunting and forcing Louis to be with Eleanor and Harry have a "lady's image" since he was only 16 and Louis now looking back and realizing he should have fought harder. Louis at the time didn't realize how much all this would hurt Harry having to share Louis [once again Just a Little Bit of Your Heart is Harry's feelings about that] and its once he's older he realizes what he did to hurt the only one who he ever truly loved and it pains him to know he put his lover through that even if it wasn't Louis fault Harry went through that.

I've been looking back a lot lately me and you is all I've ever known. Oh I can't believe I gave in to the pressure. When they said a love like this would never last. I didn't know no better now I realize yeah I realize.

So similar to before he's saying Harry is all he's ever known and him giving in to the pressure was about agreeing to fake date Eleanor and allow them to be heavily closeted. Reflecting back on those days he regrets so much what he agreed to do. They said a love like this wouldn't last is their management/label not agreeing with them being together and how two boys in a boyband marketed towards young women won't last, they won't sell records as an out gay couple with Louis believing their lies for a bit and he now regrets ever thinking they were right. This is a reflection song of not understanding what he had when he was so young but he sees it clearly now and he will never let THEM win he loves Harry and won't ever let him go ever.

Walls:

These high walls, they came up short now I stand taller then them all. These high walls never broke my soul and I watched them all come fallin down for you.

The high walls he refers to is all the assholes who tried to break him, break Harry and tried to ruin his career out of spite. This is towards the ones who told him they would never succeed being as they are a committed gay couple. Louis for a time believed them when they said their love wouldn't last, no one will want to listen to their music as a gay couple but eventually he realized they were wrong and those walls he had up filling him with doubt and insecurities were broken down. He allowed his "high walls" to come down because Harry was worth the effort it took to bring them down.

So this one is a thank you for what you did to me. Why is it that thank you's are often bittersweet? I just hope I see you one day and you say to me, Oh.

This is what one calls a metaphor he does not mean a physical person he means the walls he had up for a long time making him feel so insecure bc of how some of the people around him that made him feel so worthless crushing his spirt for so long. The metaphorical person he is thanking for helping him become the person he is today is the wall he broke down. The hardships he dealt with when he was younger got him to where he is today.

The because to his question is his lover HERE is where he directly refers to his lover. Harry is someone who is worth fighting for and will always be one of the reasons he hasn't stopped fighting. He loves Harry more then anything and will fight until the day he can publicly hold his hand, publicly post pictures of them together, publicly go on dates and publicly declare his love for him.

Habit:

Written over and over throughout the song these are some of the most important lines he wrote about Harry. It's Louis way of saying even if he wanted to, even if it would be easier for him and Harry he can never let him go. Harry's version of this is in Adore You when he sings "You don't have to say you love me, you don't have to say nothing and you don't have to say you're mine. I'd walk through fire for you just let me adore you like it's the only thing I'll ever do." Harry is saying even if publicly you can never say you love me I know you do and I will do anything for you because I am madly in love and could never let you go. They both would go through hell along side each other then being partially happy and the other not being by their side. Harry is the only one he ever wants to spend his life with and no matter what hardships they are put through there is no scenario where being without each other is a better alternative.

The line of all lines he took time away bc he was tired of the facade of faking what makes him happy, faking loving some girl, faking being anything but himself. He's back now and knows without a doubt who he is and is proud of it. No more confusion, no more lies he loves a curly haired dimpled boy and no one will tell him he can't love him. Harry's version of this is the chorus of Lights Up "All the lights couldn't put out the dark, runnin' through my heart. Lights up and they know who you are, know who you are. Do you know who you are? Shine step into the light, shine so bright sometimes, shine I'm not ever going back." They both tell you they have figured out whi they are and are very proud of who they have become and no one will tell them they can't be anything but themselves. They WILL scream it out loud and proud letting everyone know who they love one day [as if 16 and 18 year old H&L didn't already do that.]

And it's been ages, different stages come so far from Princess Park. I'll always need ya in front of me, in front of me

Oh the line that shocked every larrie I know. When he first sang this song and we first heard this line at a live concert everyone was shocked because we all knew what their was only one meaning to it. It was such a drastic line that the Elounors tried to claim he sang Starbuck [until the official lyrics came out.] Princess Park is the name of the apartment/flat complex all of the 1D boys lived in after the Xfactor BUT Niall, Liam and Zayn had their own apartment/flat while Louis and Harry shared one and they always made it very clear to everyone they met that they lived together.

So in a love song Louis sings about how him and his lover have come so far since their Princess Park days and his lover will always be the one he needs. Putting Harry's fav love song Sweet Creature plus Louis line about his lover together it would read " And, oh, we started two hearts in one home, come so far [since] princess park. I'll always need you in front of me. Wherever I go you bring me home" you do the math here. Their lyrics sink up just as much as their tattoos do.

Always You:

I went to Amsterdam without you and all I could do was think about you and oh-oh-oh I should've known

The Amsterdam line one of those lines that can be fact checked and proven to not be for Eleanor. So Louis took Eleanor to Amsterdam for her birthday at a gay bar no less back in July/August of 2017. Then a week or two later wrote the song Always You leaking a snippet of it to us where the lines of him singing about how he went to Amsterdam without his lover and his lover was all he could think about were heard. If he went with Eleanor then clearly that isn't his lover but we know this. Fast forward 2020 Walls comes out and we FINALLY hear the full song of Always You.

Louis said he only put the song on the album because the fans wanted it but if it was just because of us and the song wasn't THAT important to him why did he leak those lines back in 2017 that could easily be fact checked that the lover he sings about isn't Eleanor? It's like he wanted us to know it's not for Eleanor this line is important. So the fact that almost 3 years later he still put the song out shows the song means a lot to him and even in 2020 the meaning of the song still resonates with him and how it will Always be THIS one person that means everything to him. Funny though how his loudest, easily fact checkable songs [to not be about Eleanor] are the ones he downplays the most about importance to him.

I went to Tokyo to let it go. Drink after drink, but I still felt alone I should've known

When it comes to this song the Amsterdam line is Louis speaking [because he went to Amsterdam without Harry] while the Tokyo line is Harry speaking [because Harry went to Tokyo without Louis] and after Harry came back from Tokyo, Japan Louis was seen wearing a ton of new clothes from Japanese clothing brands. This is both of them saying I may be in a wonderful new place but it's not the same without you here. They are sad and alone and would rather be with each other then traveling around the world.

I'm wastin' my time when it was always you, always you. Chasin' the high, but it was always you, always you

I think this is self explanatory he sees no reason to even think about being with someone else because he knows without a shadow of doubt [thinks he always knew deep down] it was always Harry. There was never going to be anyone else for him but Harry.

I went from LAX to Heathrow. Walked through my door, but it felt nothing like home cause you're not home. Waiting to wrap your legs around me

LA and London are their two main residences and places they tend to go back and forth a lot. When he "goes home" if Harry is not there Louis feels as though it doesn't really feel like home because home to Louis is wherever Harry is. They can travel all around the world, meet a ton of new people but no place and others will ever make them feel fully satisfied unless their lover is by their side.

Fearless:

Cashin your weekend treasures, for a suit and time a second wife. Now I'm not saying that you could have done better just remember that I, I've seen that fire alight.

The first line is a nod to the industry itself and how to get your "weekend tresures" [be famous and earn a lot of money] you have to put up a fake facade, acting and looking the way they want you to because in their eyes if you are not the conventional person Hollywood wants they believe you will not make them the money they desire because we all know they only care about money nothing else. At a cost of the real them they must put on a fake smile, go out there sing doing nothing unconventional and they will get money and fame.

The second line yes they are happily together and Louis doesn't want or believe Harry will find someone else but he has seen Harry when all of this gets to be to much and when Harry puts up a facade of I've never had an issue with all of this Louis reminds him that I've seen you when your not fine, it's ok to not always be fine and I am here for you when things are not rainbows and sunshine.

Tell me do you still remember feeling young? And strong enough to get it wrong in front of all these people? Just for tonight, look inside and spark that memory of you.

Refering back to Xfactor and early 1D days he's asking Harry if he remembers those days together back when they hadn't really gone through hardships yet and all the strength they had during their youth willing to take on the world together. He's asking him to bring that strength back and remember the younger version of himself. He's asking him to not give up because the younger him wouldn't want him to. It's been 10 years and they are still fighting, fighting as hard as they did when they were merely teenagers not knowing what lied ahead but wer happy as long as it meant they had each other in the end.

Now if happiness is always measured by the life we design, the car on the drive then you should feel better then ever but you know as well as I it's all lies.

This line speaks volumes as stated before with Fearless we have references to the industry and even just life in general. From the outside looking in they got money, fame, material things, they have it all and if deciding who is more happy in life was based on those things then they would win but Louis is telling Harry we both know that isn't the case. The industry isn't sunshine and rainbows, they treat people like shit and strip away everything about a person if they don't think their real self will sell. They only want to make a profit off them and don't care about how they feel about any of it. Everything is a lie the truth must be counseled.

Perfect Now:

You say to me your jeans don't fit, you don't feel pretty and it's hard to miss. I wish you could see my point of view as someone staring back at you.

This song is personally underrated to me I love this song. This song is so uplifting when you are feeling insecure and negative about yourself. Louis personally had a certain curly haired boy in mind when he wrote this. He's talking about Harry's insecurities with himself and Louis wishes Harry could see things from his view and how amazing and perfect Harry is to him.

Cause everybody is looking at you now. I guess some queens don't need a crown and I know why. Even when your tears are following now still someone, you're perfect now.

One of those it's definitely not for Eleanor moments. We all know [especially during fine line era] everyone was talking about Harry, knows his name and eyes turn to him when he walks in the room. Louis is so proud of Harry and is happy everyone else sees what he sees but Harry doesn't always see what others see in him and during those times where he is not already Louis is saying I will be right there with you. I am with you through the good and the bad because even when tears are running down his face Harry is still perfect to Louis.

Cause you're the only one when it's said and done. You make me feel like being someone good to you. Even at your worst you steal the scene.

No matter where life takes them, no matter how hard it gets Louis is reassuring Harry he will always be there by his side. At the end of it all when the final act is over and the curtain is closeting he will still be there because there will never be anyone else he wants to be next to at the end of all of this. Louis looks into Harry's eyes he watches all he does and is intrance wanting nothing more then being the one to be there when he is down and always being the who makes the pain go away even if for a moment.

Defenseless:

I hate to say, but I do we're sleeping on our problems like we'll solve them in our dreams. We walk up early morning and they're still under our sheets.

*Sigh* this is reality setting in things aren't perfect. In their line of work, being who they are, being a closeted gay couple things aren't going to be perfect 100% of the time. Most of the time they would rather ignore all the shit they are forced to indure but Louis realizes just ignoring it all won't make it go away he will wake up each morning next to Harry knowing those issues will always be around by neither fault of their own. He hopes one day they will get to be a happily open couple who posts pics online, goes out on public dates and gets to live the domestic life they always wanted but right now that just isn't their reality. Their reality is I can only look at you for more then 5 seconds or touch you when no one is around to notice.

Been up all night, all night running my lines but it's only the truth. Been up all night not sure how to say this right got so much to loose. / You just keep on building up your fences but I've been so defenseless.

Another metaphor here Louis wondering how to bring this up to Harry and not upset him. The last thing Louis ever wants is for him to be the reason Harry has a frown upon is wonderful face. Harry is more the one to bottle up and ignore the negative things while Louis is the more practical one and he knows he has a ton to loose [Harry and his love] if he doesn't go about this situation right.

No you don't have to keep on being strong for you and me acting like you feel no pain I know you do. And I can't get inside your head when you're lost in your pride but you don't have a thing to prove.

Harry is the one who bottles up his pain, puts on the fake smiles, and makes everyone believe he is perfectly fine. He acts like he can handle what he is forced to indure 100% of the time but Louis sees through that and just wants him to open up more. He knows Harry feels just as much pain as he does and wishes he wouldn't hide it and pretend everything is always fine. Louis wants to be able to help Harry through the pain and to let know he will always be there for him no matter what so don't pretend your always fine just to make others around him, make Louis feel better.

I hope I'm not asking to much just wanna be loved by you. And I'm to tired to be tough just wanna be loved by you.

Louis is tired of pretending, wishes everyone understood, wishes what he is asking for wasn't to much. All he wants is to be loved by Harry and live the domestic life he always invisioned with Harry and no one else but his live is not that simple.

Only The Brave:

Pour mercy, mercy on me, set fire to history. I'm breaking my own rules, I'm crying like a fool. It's a church of burnt romances and I'm to far gone to pray. It's a solo song and it's only for the brave.

I'm sure you understand Louis is gay but if you didn't this line right here is all you need to understand that. No straight man is going to write or sing those lines. He's gone down a path of self discovery and figuring himself out he knows he is and he is to far gone to turn back now but he has no desire to even if he could turn back. He is proud of who he is and doesn't care what anyone else thinks of him.

If the truth tell, darling, you fell, like their ain't enough dying stars in your sky. It's a tell tale and it's only hello, hello, no goodbyes.

It's only hello no goodbyes meaning the confusion, the is this for life between Louis and Harry questions are gone. They aren't turning back, they aren't saying goodbye, they are only saying hello to what lies ahead. The truth is clear, their story is clear, they fell for one another and Harry metaphorical speaking fell for Louis in a way where his star shines brighter then ever just by being with him.

Pour mercy, mercy on me, I'll fall upon my knees and they'll say, I told you so come on when you know you know. All the lonely shadows dancing from the cradle to the grave.

When you know you know they knew right from the start it's me and you until the end. Some won't agree but in the end that does not matter to Louis because he only cares about Harry being by his side. He will not apologize for falling in love he loves who he loves and that is it.

We Made It Directors Cut MV:

If the lyrics alone don't tell you the full story then the music video mini movie should. It sums up everything I explained. Louis being forced to do things he doesn't want, it effecting his relationship to the point their drowning [Harry in Falling MV] but manage to survive. Louis lover never speaking but the girl with ties to the evil one in charge does until eventually Louis breaks free from the man in charge controlling him and Louis finally gets to run away with his lover because he made sure they would make it in the end.

Ending:

Walls is about self discovery, learning to overcome your insecurities "breaking down your walls" no matter how hard it may be and Louis understanding he met the one at 18 and how Harry will always be worth fighting for, THEY will always be worth it bc they knew even as young as they were they were going to get married, have kids and grow old together. So you still want to tell me how any song on Walls is about a break up or Louis moving on from Harry because I certainly don't see it. Walls is Louis perspective on their 10 year relationship and his support and love towards Harry if you want Harry's perspective and his support and love toward Louis you would have to dive into HS and FL but that's a whole other analysis.

They have not given up on each other even if at times it would have been easier they didn't so I will never give up on them. They continue to fight I have been in this fandom supporting them for 10 years watching their continous fight and I will be here another 10 years supporting them if that is how long it takes for them to get the life they knew they wanted when they were only 16 and 18.

Ever Since New York

This is my first fic for the HS1 Masterlist that @bfharry, @goldenfeelin and myself have created...i hope you enjoy <3

2.4k of light fluff and angst

NYC was beautiful this time of year. Glittering holiday lights illuminated the cityscape, blankets of snow cloaking the ground as the two of you walked down the icy sidewalk with your hand enveloped in his. The two of you had just left a holiday party that some of your friends were hosting. Their house was just a few blocks down from Harry’s apartment, so you walked. Which seemed fine, until it was one in the morning and you were fighting against the freezing Brooklyn air just to get home. The thick white blanket encasing the ground below you illuminates your path as you were walking when a burst of wind rushes through your coat, making you shiver.

“I know, m’sorry bug.” he wrapped his arm around your shoulder, pulling you into his warmth. “Almost there.”

After walking up the stairs to his apartment, Harry fumbled with his key a bit before successfully unlocking the door, the cold air slowing the movements of his fingers.

“Finally.” he grumbled before pushing the door open. You took off your coat, hanging it up and he followed with the same action.

Everything about Harry’s Brooklyn apartment was so nostalgic. The smell of spices and vanilla is evident when you walk in from your favorite candle that he was burning earlier, not to mention the color scheme, it was your favorite out of every place that he’s ever had. Different textures and jewel tones filled the space and even though Harry always says that New York is too crazy for him, he can’t argue that you've made some of your best memories here.

“Whatcha thinkin’ about?” his voice was soft, taking a few steps towards you. Your back was pressed against his chest as strong arms wrapped around your shoulders. He proceeded to kiss the top of your head as you spoke.

“Remember the last time we were here together?” you couldn’t help but smile, reminiscing of the night when your life changed forever.

“Can I open my eyes now?”

Harry’s hands are covering your eyes as he’s guiding you down the hallway.

“Shhh.” he ignores your request, too focused on whatever he has planned. “Okay, there’s steps here, so just step up-there ya go.”

“Where are we going?”

“Fo’ the last time, s’a surprise.” he huffs playfully before reaching around you and it sounded like he was opening a door in front of you.

“I’m scared.”

“Why ya scared fo’? S’just me, love.”

You roll your eyes under his palms but he’s quick to catch you. “Heeeey.”

“You’re always up to somethin’, and you know I hate surprises-”

“Jus’ hush and keep walkin’, almost there.”

The breezy October air rushed in from outside and soon you felt concrete scuffing underneath your sneakers. You can hear his shaky breath from behind you and the curiosity is too much to bear.

“Okay,” he takes his hands away. “Open your eyes.”

Once your eyes adjusted to the golden light of the sun, the scene in front of you was breathtaking.

You were on the rooftop of Harry’s apartment building. Twinkling fairy lights were strung above your head and you felt like you were dreaming. Your eyes fall to the ground and there’s blankets and pillows and your favorite snacks are scattered on top, and your favorite candle is sat on the ledge burning. Soon after, your ears pick up the music that’s playing.

“Thought we could watch the sunset...and I got your favorite playlist.”

You felt frozen, but your heart was so warm.

You swiftly turned around to face him, bringing your hands up to his cheeks.

“What did I do to deserve you?” you question and the genuine smile on his face is more than contagious.

“Y’tryna make me blush?”

His sheepish comment makes you giggle. “Maybe.”

“Think it’s workin’.”

The air was leaving his lungs a little too fast but you could tell that he was nervous.

“You look like you’re gonna pass out.”

His eyes slightly widen, but he tries to hide it. as his arms pull you into a bear hug. “M’fine.”

“You are so special.” you murmur after a few moments, pulling back to look at him.

“Awh stop.” he shies away from your accolade. “Just love you, s’all.”

“I love you too.”

He stood there for a moment before taking her hands and turning around so that he was standing in front of her and gently pulling. “C’mere.”

You feel drawn to him. He pulls you into the middle of the open space. “Wanna dance with me?”

Both of his hands are holding yours and he gives you a cheeky smile before pulling you in.

“You really shouldn’t have gotten those tattoos on your ankles if you thought you were ever gonna dance again.”

Your comment surprised him and he looks down at his shoes, and you both burst into giggles when he quickly looks back up at you. His face softens at your face, he loves making you happy.

“Only for you.”

Butterflies flittered inside of your rib cage at his statement.

You don’t know how long you stayed like that, your head resting against his chest as he held you. Your hands slid underneath his shirt, feeling the muscles of his back beneath your fingertips while slowly moving to the melody of a kodaline song.

“Have somethin’ fo’ you.”

Mild confusion crossed your face at his words as he pulled away. “What is it?”

“Jus’...I want you to know somethin’ first.”

He held your hands in his as he spoke.

“I want you to know how wonderful you are.” he takes a breath. “When i first saw you I thought you were the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my whole life, but you...quickly showed me your heart. You’re the sweetest person I’ve ever met, so kind and funny and we’ve grown so much together, and m’bein’ honest...I wouldn’t be who I am right now without you. You showed me how to love again, how to trust again, and m’so grateful.”

Small tears are trying to sneak their way onto your cheeks, and you couldn’t take your eyes away from his, so you didn’t notice him reaching into his pocket right away. He looked unusually nervous, more so with every word, voice wavering just a bit.

That’s when Harry dropped down onto his knee, and he was holding a ring, and you were already crying.

“Harry,” you pleaded, voice barely above a whisper and you could hear the punching heartbeat in your ears.

“I love you with all of my heart. M’so incredibly in love with you.”

Your lungs felt empty, air leaving them too fast to keep up.

“My love, will you marry me?”

“Yes.” you were breathless, hands moving to cradle his cheeks. “Yes, yes, oh my gosh, yes.”

“Remember it like it was yesterday.” he hummed, reaching around to place a kiss on your cheek, which you leaned into.

“It was the best night of my life.” you spoke honestly, holding onto his hands as they came over your shoulders.

“Hope so, don't’ think ‘ve ever been tha’ nervous.”

“You’re hands were shaking so bad, tryin’ to put the ring on my finger.” your giggling earned a scoff from Harry.

“Heeey, your hands were shakin’ too! And I couldn’t mess up tha’ moment! Knew it was somethin’ we were gonna remember forever.”

“I will.” you turned around in his hold, hands on his cheeks. “You’re the best fiancé in the world.”

“No, you are.”

“No, you—”

He cut you off before you could start fussing. Soft lips were on yours, the kiss sweet and filled with love.

Before anything could escalate, the next thing you heard was Harry’s phone buzzing from the inside of his back pocket.

“M’gonna get tha’.” he mumbled against your lips, kissing you one more time before pulling away. “But right after, m’all yours, love.”

You giggled before turning around, proceeding to take out your earrings as he answered the call.

“Hi mum.”

Harry stayed silent, holding the phone up to his ear and intently listening at what she was telling him.

“No, m’with Y/N.”

“Is everything alright?” he questioned, now pacing around the bedroom. His next words were hushed into the phone. “D’you want me to come down there?”

You turned around at his words, wondering if it was what you thought it was.

“Mum, jus’ tell me, please.”

With everything inside of you, you hoped and prayed it wasn’t what you thought it was.

“Oh, god.”

His voice instantly flooded with distress, chest rising and falling rapidly. He ran a hand through his hair, tears spilling onto his cheeks.

“No, no no.”

The repeated silence was deafening.

“It’s not fair.” he cried, squeezing his eyes closed as he sat on the edge of the bed. The conversation with his mum lasted a few more minutes before he told her loved her, and that he would be there as soon as he could. As soon as he hung up the phone he’d burst into tears again. You sat beside him, placing a hand on the side of his face, encouraging him to lay his head on your shoulder. He struggled to explain through pained sobs what was happening, and his words broke your heart. His stepdad, who raised him since he was seven years old, was fighting a long battle with cancer and everyone has always been hopeful, but his mum had just told him the words he never wanted to hear.

There was nothing more that they could do.

His cries were gut wrenching, fingers tightly clutching your shirt as you held him.

“For fuck’s sake, the wedding.”

You could feel your heart ripping out of your chest as Harry choked out those words. He is like a second dad to you, so when you and Harry got engaged you’d asked him to walk you down the aisle. Your heart couldn’t even begin to think about that right now.

“Need t’go down there, gonna get a plane.”

The bunch of conflicting emotions were causing Harry’s thoughts to be scattered, not that you could blame him, but you were struggling to process everything too.

“I’m going with you.”

Your voice was soft, not wanting to upset him further. His head hung down, looking at his hands.

“He’d love t’see you.”

“I’d love that, too.” you promised, gently stroking his hair. “Whatever you need, I’m here.”

The two of you didn’t get any sleep that night. He stayed up sitting on the edge of the bed, praying for hours—begging for something, anything. Nothing in life can prepare you for something like this. The hurt, the anger, the confusion.

“Feel like m’just talking t’the wall.” he huffs, roughly running his hands through his hair before choking out another sob.

“There’s a reason your heart tells you things.” He lifts his head to look at you and his cheeks are stained with tears but his eyes still pierce into yours, intently listening. “You may not ever know the reason why your heart tells you what it does, but you always have to listen.”

He dips his head down, staring at his hands as his eyes squeeze shut and the fact that you know there are tears welling up again makes you sick to your stomach. “Jus’ want-” his breath jerks as another sob comes out of his chest. “Want it t’be a dream.” and you wanted that too. Hell, you wanted to say something, anything to make feel better...but was there really anything you could say? No. Harry wasn’t stupid, he knew all too well that this could always be a possibility, but he was always filled with hope. This is his dad. Of course he’s going to have all the hope in the universe.

“Never thought this would ever happen, y’know? Thought that it would work this time.”

“Maybe he can get another doctor.” he’s already shaking his head. “There has to be something-”

“Fuck’s sake.” he interrupts, pushing himself off the bed and storming across the room and into the hallway and your gaze dropped to the floor. Letting Harry cool off was the best thing to do when he was angry, and when the sound of what you assumed was his fist punching drywall broke the tense silence, you didn’t flinch.

Then you heard it again...and again, and again, followed by a strangled cry and that’s when you stepped in, jogging down the hallway calling Harry’s name.

“Harry,” you gripped his other bicep, trying to pull him away and as soon as he felt your touch, he broke down. His forehead pressed against the wall with his eyes squeezed shut and his fists still clenched above his head. He turns around, back against the wall, sliding down to the floor and his resolve slowly crumbles when you knelt down and wrapped your arms around his shoulders. His head fell onto your shoulder as you held him.

“I’m right here, I’ve got you.”

He’s shaking in your arms and the two of you are crumpled on the floor. He slowly calms down with your touch, but he’s still choking out sobs. Your hands cover his knuckles, kissing the blood stained skin.

“Shhh, I’ve got you.”

Your hands were weaved through his locks, being caressed through his hair as you held him until his breathing had calmed along with the beat of his heart, but you never wanted to let go of him.

“I wish I could make it all better.” you murmur between soft kisses to his cheeks. “I’d take all your pain away.”

“Know y’would.” he leans into the palm that’s cradling his cheek before catching a glimpse of your sleepy eyes starting to fall closed.

“Y’should get some sleep.” he rasps, head on your chest. “Don’t want y’to be exhausted tomorrow.” Despite everything he was going through right now, he was still thinking of you.

“We can sleep on the plane.”

He nodded, wiping his eyes with his sleeve.

It took a lot for Harry to look tired. It’d been hours of crying, sobbing, and you both needed rest.

“I can lay with you if you want?”

“Would love that.” he wanted to smile, you could tell. But he just didn’t have it in him tonight.

“I’ll be right back.” you whispered, placing a soft kiss on his cheek.

You clung to each other as soon as you were under the covers. You protectively put your arms around him, running your hands through his hair and his eyes never left your face.

“I’m not gonna ask you if you’re alright, because I know you’re not.” one of your hands came down to his face, thumb brushing across his cheek.

“I’ll always be here for you, whatever you need.” you took a deep breath, brushing the hair away from his face. “Always.”

“Will y’hold me, please?” his voice was raspy, his tone sweet and sad.

“C’mere.”

Emotions were so fresh and raw right now, but all you could do was be there for him. With every fiber of your being you wanted to take his pain away, kiss it better...anything. But right now, all you could do was love him. And for Harry, that was more than enough.

i hadn’t listed to hs1 from top to bottom in such a long time. mostly because i don’t have spotify premium so everything is played in shuffle, but that’s not the point. the point is that i just finished listening to it from mmith to ftdt, and i have so many thoughts. they will all be about how much of a masterpiece it is.

harry is a genius of a lyricist. i wish i could tell him that, and i wish he would believe me. something that is amazing to me and is very particular of hs1, in my opinion, is how harry seems to paint pictures with his words. “i walk the streets all day / running with the thieves”; “broke a finger knocking on your bedroom door / i got squinters in my knuckles crawling across the floor”. these are different from saying “i wandered all night aimlessly” or “i knocked so hard on your door, and you didn’t answer so i’m here, begging for anything, really.” you know that thing that people tend to say when they’re involved in creative writing? you should show something, rather than just tell. it’s what he is doing. he is purposely exaggerating in order to give us a visual of his feelings. he is creating an atmosphere, and honestly, how amazing is that? how many famous and successful singers/songwriters would be able to pull that off so beautifully, with all due respect to all of them?

also, one of my all time favorite lyrics from harry: “fridge light washes this room white / moon dances over your good side” how romantic is that? it’s honestly ethereal. it gives a really intimate vibe in a ridiculously simple way. if you don’t really pay attention you won’t see it, but he is placing you - the person listening - in the situation of the song. you listen to the words but they translate like a movie in your mind: the person harry’s heart yearns for is illuminated by both the cold glow of a refrigerator and the moon. they’re in the kitchen and it’s night, but harry didn’t say any of those things, because his lyrics are layered. you have to listen with intent to understand in between the lines, and sometimes you won’t. very reminiscent of poetry.

i also realized how inherently sad hs1 is. i mean, i had always known this, but after listening from top to bottom after so long… ugh. harry was really going through stuff when he wrote that album. maybe some of the reason is because he was trying to prove himself as a serious artist, but still. there is no denying. self titled begins with heartbreak and ends with heartbreak. there is so much pain and misunderstandings and it’s such a lack of communication that there comes a time when harry actually begs the other person to say anything, even if they don’t have anything to say.* (crazy to think that, in 2017, i used to listen to it in moments of happiness, because it gave me such a boost of adrenaline. but it’s fair: it’s sad because it does have many sad songs, but there are songs like woman and kiwi that just make you want to dance. when it’s happy, it’s inyourface happy).

i understand that nowadays harry has a changed view of his first album, but i wish he could listen to it from my perspective. it’s such a great album. such a masterpiece.

curious fact (not really): my fav song on that album is ftdt, which i also think is the saddest. to me, it’s the combination of harry’s broken voice with the crying of the guitar and an eventual whining of a violin that really means hope, but eventually dies along with the hope and all there is left is the broken voice and the tears of the guitar that does it all.

(*just wanted to clarify that, by saying all of that, i don’t mean that i think h&l had broken up or something. i don’t!!)

Hi darling. This is a lovely breakdown of that album. Yeah, I think he’s a terrific songwriter—he’s got a very poetic style that really speaks to me. And yes, so much sadness on that album, even if some of the music is upbeat! 2016/early 2017 must have been an incredibly hard time for him (and Louis). They went through so much family tragedy, all while trying to figure out an entirely new life outside of the band. Add to that the pressure to succeed that Harry must have had and the crushing demoralization Louis suffered with babygate. I honestly think only soulmates could have gotten through all of that in tact.

What an incredible four years it has been. Unfortunately i wasn’t here for you Harry when you released your first album, nor when you released the second one, but I will be here for all those yet to come. So today, i say we celebrate not only the past but also the future of this man ☝️.And even though I wasn’t at it’s birth, HS1 has a special place in my heart, the songs are amazing, you are amazing.

answering questions I’ve been asked on TikTok✨

QUESTION: how did you get into reading?

So, when I was in middle school (many moons ago) we had this thing called AR Testing. Basically, you read a book and take a test on it—the questions were things that happened in the book, it was really simple. If you got a good grade, you got points. The more points you earned, the more eligible you were for the reading party at the end of each semester. Me, being the nerd I am, got top of my class because I went through 8th grade level books like it was nothing. The librarian at my school brought me books from the high school to read since everything was easy for me, and alas, my addiction began. And now that I have adult money, it’s a true addiction. Also, telling my father “I’m bored” and his response being, “go read a book or something” so thanks dad.

QUESTION: what’s one book you ALWAYS recommend to people?

This one is tough because I’ve read THOUSANDS of books, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be Confess by Colleen Hoover. I fell in love with her work in high school when I first read Ugly Love, but Confess is the type of book that pulls at your heart strings, y’all. It has everything people love: humor, sexual tension, drama, love. GO BUY THE DAMN BOOK. Or honestly any book by Colleen Hoover—she’s a fucking amazing author.

QUESTION: outside of making TikToks, what do you do for a living?

I currently work at a restaurant and hate every second of it. If anyone tells you to become a server, DONT. It’s not worth the hassle, I promise you. Sure, you can make decent money but the amount of rude customers and shitty tips you receive each shift is very disheartening. If you really need a job, do anything BUT work in the food industry.

QUESTION: what’s your wattpad story about?

First question: which one? I have about 30 drafts sitting there waiting to be posted. But, I’m going to assume you’re talking about the Harry Styles fan fiction I’ve been working on for the past 4 years and haven’t had the courage to post. I’ll tell you a little about it: Elaine Aldridge is forced into a betrothal to a man she’s never met & loathes. She goes to his court and realizes things aren’t what they truly seem. And the guard her future husband sticks on her??? None other than Mr. Harry Styles. Add in some magic & deaths and you’ve got my story— The First Prince. (Honestly, that’s an extremely shitty description so if you wanna check it out go to my wattpad account)

QUESTION: how old are you?

Ahem. . . twenty-one.

QUESTION: what is your dream career?

Being a published author and having people rave about my books. That’s all. Or, an editor for a publishing company. Imagine reading all day and being paid for it🤩

I already KNOW I’m gonna get shit for this but....... the wicked king. YALL I LITERALLY COULDNT GET THROUGH IT IM SO SORRY, I STILL HAVENT FINISHED IT

QUESTION: current favorite author?

Sarah. J. Maas. I don’t know what it is about her writing style, but it’s addicting. Throne of Glass is hands down the best series I’ve ever read. A Court of Thorns and Roses is the first book I’ve EVER reread. Her stories truly suck you in and hold onto you—you get lost so easily in her writing and it’s like once you’re done with a series, nothing will compare. Or, at least that’s how I felt after finishing Kingdom of Ash. Honorable mentions: Jennifer L. Armentrout, Penelope Douglas, L.J Shen, Elle Kennedy and Kennedy Fox.

QUESTION: any recommendations/tips to give to a new reader?

I’ve always given this advice to people who want to get into reading: find what you like and start with that. If you like romance, I’ve got a list for you to choose from. Mystery? Another list. Yes. All the time. I daydream about being apart of the Inner Circle and living in Terrasen with Aelin and Rowan. I think about what it would be like to have real powers and a mate. It drives my boyfriend crazy—but he loves me anyway.

QUESTION: why did you start a Tumblr?

Honestly, I used to love tumblr when I was in grade school (way too young to be on here then but what else is new). I like having an extra space to get my questions and comments out without having to compress it into a 60 second video for TikTok to see. Tumblr is a good place to blog & post things like this.

I’ve listened to Carry You by Novo Amor every day for the past two months and I cry each time.

QUESTION: why write Harry Styles fan fiction?

Simple: I love Harry Styles. I’ve been a fan of him and One Direction since they were on X FACTOR. Read that again. X. Factor. I used to watch their performances on YouTube before WMYB even came out. Of course, I love all of the 1D boys but I was always a Harry gal. And I look up to him in a way—I’ve read things about people wishing they knew him personally and honestly? I would never want to meet him. I like the version of him I’ve cooked up in my brain over the past 10 years. I like the symbiotic relationship I have with his music. Fine Line is a ✨masterpiece✨. the saying “anyone but trump” has been in my brain for the past four years. No, I’m not a republican. No, I’m not a democrat. I like to think of myself as a progressive (ahem, liberal) Did I vote for a democratic candidate? Yes, and I’d do it again and again until the US isn’t one of the worst countries—I’m sorry, businesses— to be apart of. I wanted Bernie but got Biden, and I’m alright with that. And my girl Kamala🥳

QUESTION: how did you feel about the BLM protests?

I went to multiple BLM protests and donated a lot of funds to BLM & other organizations. It’s 2021, people... stop being fucking RACIST. And don’t be afraid to call racist people out! Black Lives Matter, even if no one is posting about it anymore.

QUESTION: thoughts on abortion?

your body your choice, queen! not my uterus, not my problem.

QUESTION: there was a comment on an old video of yours talking about r*pe, why did you delete the comment?

I made a video when I first started my account on TikTok about reading in public and feeling “turned on” by it. Go watch it if you don’t know what I’m talking about. BUT, some ignorant male decided to comment and say “this is how girls get r*ped”. Whew. So. I deleted the comment because ....

I am a victim of sexual assault. Along with a lot of other women. 1 in 5 women have been victims of sexual assault. Talking about being r*ped isn’t funny.

No one else needed to see his comment. I reported it immediately and his account was shut down.

I never got justice for what happened to me, and the fact that some random male—who had never even met me or seen me before my video showed up on his FYP—had the nerve to comment that? Unacceptable.

QUESTION: what’s the best way to get out of a toxic relationship?

okay, let me just start off by saying that the people around you who love and support you are going to be your backbone. Leaving a toxic situation is hard, and every situation is different, but my best piece of advice to offer you is don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your loved ones are going to be there for you when you need them, even if you don’t believe they will. If you explain what’s happening, someone you know and love will drop whatever it is their doing to make sure you get out safely. good luck my babes.

Literally none. I post what I think is funny and relatable and if anyone agrees, I’m satisfied. Even if it’s one view, it’s good enough for me. So I guess my one tip is to not base your life off of an app and followers.

QUESTION: I read your Elain theory on tumblr, can you explain a little more?

I thought I was pretty straightforward but I’ll say it again: she is always the “good” one and it’s too suspicious. SJM has already given one Archeron sister a happy ending, Nesta’s is obviously inevitable, but Elain? She has too many options for a happy ending. Lucien, who is her “mate”. Azriel, who is intrigued by her slightly. Her human guy—I don’t remember his name—who is disgusted that she’s not human anymore. Or, alone, planting flowers all day. BUT! My point is that she’s not truly happy. She was forced into the Cauldron just like Nesta. She was ripped away from the life she loved so dearly and didn’t want to give up. The man she was going to marry now hates her guts because she’s a High Fae. She has the perfect set up for a villain plot line and I’m all here for it.
