I’ve been rereading your second Hq @ hogwarts story (probably my favorite of them all, tho im enjoying the fifth one) and gosh,, Suga’s angst-ing is so intense and I feel his tension and pressure and dread haha.

Omg and there is this one part in Ch 19 that goes on about how Suga doesn’t want any of the Heir stuff to be happening and it goes “He wanted….Well, it seemed like lately Suga wanted a lot of things he couldn’t have,” before referencing Daichi and then i suddenly thought of the moments in the fourth/fifth story where Oikawa thinks the same thing (but it doesn’t reference anyone) and ugh!!!!! I’m pretty much on the edge of my seat with every Iwaoi crumb nowadays!

Each ship seems to be having their own drawn out journey and I love seeing how each of them deal with Feelings (some more frustrating than others..) It’s so fun rereading your series and catching foreshadowing and little details and pieces that bring the whole story together!

Ha...I really some drawn out journey kinda romances that's so sure, I love some heartfelt pining.

Daichi was no stranger to being gifted food and pastries

It was true that he was no Oikawa by fan girl status but I’d be lying if I said the boy didn’t have 70% of the female population of Karasuno High crushing on him

He was so professional, handsome and respectful to everyone ... it was hard to not want to do his bidding

Girls in all 3 years would bring him and Suga sweets fairly often (like once a week) and he would smile at them widely and thank them sincerely

One day Michimiya gave him a box of rice snacks with a note attached to it finally confessing to him her feelings

Daichi the sweetheart found her later that day and asked if she had time to talk after school

At which point he let her down so kindly and easily that she didn’t even cry until she got home

Hearing this one day in the halls made you promise yourself never to let him find out that you were totally into him

You hearing what happened to such a pretty, smart, and nice girl like Michimiya, you settled for strategically placing your sweet bakes for daichi in places that he will be next so that you will never have to face him

Like you’d put it on his seat in the class he will be going to next or by the gym doors because, as captain, he had the keys to open it up first

(It always had his name on it though so if second keyholder Tanaka got to it first he’d hand it over to him jealously)

You were incredibly shy and the idea of Daichi knowing how hard you worked on this food for him (since you decorated his treats with gum drop details and stuff) was borderline mortifying

You didn’t want him to ‘let you down easy’ like he did Michimiya, you just wanted him to enjoy your food because you knew it made him happy

You decided you’d never confess and you made your peace with it

You just wanted him to be energized and full on his game days so you would always make him extra when the team was scheduled to play

Simply seeing him around the school enjoying your food and not letting Suga or Asahi taste it like he would with the rest of the gifted pastries he got was enough for you to be happy doing it and never being caught

That is....until the day you were caught :/

Yesterday you had made Daichi Bocchan Dango because you knew it was his favourite and it was his first day of Nationals so it had to be special!

You usually were at school early because of your own club meetings so you walked by the gym extra early to place his food on the window of the boys volleyball gym where he’d usually find it.

You stood on your toes to place it there and then turned to walk away in the dark foggy morning when you saw a single stature bundled up in the trendy black jacket you could recognize anywhere....standing there.....

Waiting for you.

...And he was holding something.

“Please don’t run.” Dadchi pleaded politely, seeing on your face that you were going to do just that. The only reason why you didn’t was because his voice kind of emitted obedience. His sense of authority was clearly naturalized.

Daichi wiggled the tupperware container he held in one hand so he could draw your attention to it. “Uh, I don’t know if I’m anywhere near as good a cook or baker as you, but I promise I really tried.” Rendered Daichi with the smallest of blushes under his eyes. A cold breeze hit the two of you and you kind of squealed out of nervousness and the cold combined. He walked toward you slowly in the chilly winter morning and you stepped back instinctively. He stopped when you stepped away.

“Are you more nervous than I am?” He asked endearingly, letting out a soft chuckle. You were able to look at the snow on your boots and nod as your blush deepened.

You couldn’t believe you’d been caught. You never meant to get caught—and you didn’t know what to do.

“If you look up sometime Y/N, I’d like to show you that I also made you hot chocolate. It always calms my nerves, I had one...or four.... before I left the house this morning. Do you like hot coco?”

Hearing Daichi say those words you lifted your head to look up at the volleyball captain and you could see that he had a container in his hand wrapped up in a little red bow and a fancied hot chocolate in his other hand. They looked homemade: you loved anything homemade.

When you looked up for the first time Daichi couldn’t help but smile widely and you immediately turned away out of timidity. He stepped toward you again and this time you didn’t step back. He extended his bearings to you and you took them, muttering a shy, “Thank you, Daichi-sama.” You noticed that the little tags on the treats were addressed to you in Daichi’s handwriting with a smiley face.

Daichi moved away from you so he could grab the food you’d left for him by the gym doors. He returned to stand right in front of you so that you two were almost toe-to-toe.

“No, thank you, Y/N. I really appreciate all the food you always leave me. They’re my favourite—even a bit more than my moms—and they’re delicious. I’m honoured.”

You felt like you could die right there. “Y-you don’t have to th-thank me, Daichi.”

“No, I do have to. Because you honestly made what I planned to do a lot easier for me,”

You peaked up at him, momentarily curious. He was staring down at you with serious eyes and you didn’t understand. “W-what do you mean?” You inquired.

“Uh—you heard that I had to reject Michimiya a few weeks ago, right? It was going around the school not too long ago, unfortunately.” He awkwardly played with his mittens.

You nodded. “Yes.”

“Did you hear, uh—why?”

You shook your head. “N-no.”

“I-uh......” Taking a deep breath and getting his act together, Daichi couldn’t help but put a hand under your chin so you’d quit looking anywhere else but at him. “Y/N, I rejected Michimiya because I told her that I.....liked someone else.”

Your heart sank because this is exactly what you wanted to avoid: Daichi letting you down easy. But boy was he good at it because you could stare into his lush chestnut brown orbs forever without feeling the need to cry. Is this how he did it to Michimiya?

“I-I’m sorry Daichi-san. I didn’t m-mean to—“

“I told Michimiya that I liked you. I actually thought she was the one who left me the secret treats that’s why I told her, but either way, I admitted that I was trying to find a way to tell you how I felt.”

Another cold morning breeze attacked the two of you and you gasped by its force. “W-What??” You asked, you must be delirious from staring into his beautiful eyes for too long. You couldn’t have heard what you thought you just heard.

“I had no idea that you were the girl that always left me these treats until Suga caught you fleeing the gym yesterday, but Koshi was more than happy to jump on me and yell that the girl I’ve been crushing on for the past year might actually like me back. So I, uh, assumed your pattern. I stayed up all night with my mom baking these for you from scratch and trying to meet you in the act. I...thought it was too good to be true and that I’d look like a total loser standing here with these alone until I saw you leave it on the windowsill a second ago.”

“Oh my goodness,” you whispered as you shook your head at his confession. Your heart was bursting with love and disbelief. “I-I can’t believe it....Daichi....”

Lovely Daichi removed his scarf and put it over your scarf-less neck sweetly, effectively warming you up.

“I really like you, Y/N. Can our first date be you coming over so I can make you some more innovative bakes, for once? My mom will be there and she’ll chaperone me so that I don’t poison you, but, I just want to repay you for cheering me up all the time anonymously with your pastries.”

Feeling your heart sing, you nodded as you leaned your cheek on his warm and soft green scarf that smelled like sugar and spice and everything Daichi. 😌💞

“I-I’d really like that.” You answered, grinning and taking a sip of the delicious and warm hot chocolate in your hands...

....the hot chocolate that was made by the man of your dreams.

Sawamura Daichi sighs heavily as he gets out of his car. It’s been a long, long day.

Hot weather made everyone in the entire universe cranky and ensured that every single person he dealt with would be out to get him. He doesn’t necessarily blame them, for he is just as fed up with the weather as they are. But did people really have to be short and rude? Daichi wasn’t short and rude to them, so why did they have to be humongous dickbags?

But he digresses.

Daichi’s gonna put it all behind him. Because the long day is done, and he has tomorrow off. He can spend the entire day with you. Honestly he doesn’t plan on moving from the bed, with a fan pointing directly at him.

The thought makes him sigh, and he opens the front door to his small house he shares with you. He knows you’re home, but the lights are off and the door makes an eerie sound creak as he closes it behind him.

Huh, he thinks. I should probably replace the hinges.

“I’m home,” he calls, removing his shoes and setting them aside. There’s no answer, and as he gazes further in he notices all of the lights are off, not just the front room.

Y/N must be out, he muses silently. Daichi’s not upset but he was looking forward to seeing you and recounting his terrible day. He likes being able to come to you with his frustrations about his job. Not only do you enjoy hearing about the lunatics that Daichi works with, but you have a magical way of easing the annoyances Daichi feels after his shifts and by the time he finishes his stories he feels lighter.

Being with you has made Daichi feel lighter. He didn’t realize what his life was lacking - he had good friends, he visited his family often, and despite the hassles he did genuinely enjoy his work. But after meeting you, life became vibrant. It’s like eating a meal with seasoning - if Daichi had to go back to his bland life, the one he thought he liked before dating you, it would be terrible.

Life comes with its hurdles but together you and Daichi overcome them all. The relationship started with your apartments being an hour from each other, but you both saved and saved and bought the small house in which you and Daichi reside. It’s very small, with a patch of grass and neighbors an arm’s reach away, but it’s his and yours. And Daichi wouldn’t trade it for anything.

He pads into the tiny kitchen now, grabbing a glass from the cabinet and filling it with water. Only after he’s drunk half of the glass does he notice the note sticking on the fridge.

Go to the bathroom.

He tilts his head, confused. He recognizes your handwriting, and knows that this isn’t the first time you’ve left something for him on the fridge. They’re normally reminders or love notes though - not this sort of request.

Shrugging, Daichi finishes his water and makes his way to the bathroom. But the mystery deepens when he sees the second note on the bathroom counter, accompanied with a snorkel and water goggles.

Wear me and go to the bedroom.

Daichi looks down at the swimming gear, then back at the note, and back to the gear. What is Y/N planning? He thinks. He doesn’t put on the gear quite yet, but he takes it with him on his quest to the bedroom. Another note is waiting on the bed.

Wear me and go to the backyard.

Daichi finds his swimming trunks on the bed, waiting for him. At least they’ll match the goggles and snorkel now.

God, he has no idea what the hell you’re up to. Clearly this is some game, one that Daichi thinks he should be more alert for. But he’s half confused and half endeared by your tricks. It’s not the first time you’ve done some elaborate “prank” to make Daichi feel better, and he wholeheartedly trusts you. (Honestly, how much damage could his swimming trunks, snorkel and goggles do?)

He dons the gear and sets out for the backyard. The goggles sit on his head and the snorkel flops around - he’s not ready to fully comply with your requests. But as he approaches the back door he decides it’s better to be safe than sorry and slips the goggles on.

He cautiously opens the door and steps outside. Stepping off the small porch he finds a bucket sitting on the lawn. As he gets closer he spies another note balanced on a pile of water balloons.

Oh my god, he thinks with a grin. He grabs the note, opens it up and reads the two words.

A loud war cry makes him look back up, and he sees you come running around from the side of the house, wearing your swimsuit, goggles and snorkel and holding a handful of balloons. Daichi doesn’t have a second to react before you begin pelting him with the balloons, the first hitting him square on the nose.

Well I’m glad I wore the goggles.

“HA HA!” Through your triumphant cheer Daichi can spot your manic grin, and even through your goggles he can see the sparkle in your eyes.

He feels a smirk cross his face and he wastes no time in stooping down to grab his own ammunition and join the war.

It’s a relatively short battle, full of Daichi chasing you, then you chasing Daichi. Your giggles and his laughter echoes in your tiny backyard, cut short by shrieks as the water balloons hit their marks on their targets. While you had an early advantage, going so far to even stash balloons in the few hidden alcoves around your house, Daichi was able to get a few decent shots in.

“Gotcha!” He laughs as you sputter through the water. It was a particularly good shot - he lobbed a balloon towards you and while you waited to catch it, Daichi pelted you with an extra balloon he kept on hand. It resulted in a one-two combo that soaked you.

But you didn’t take that lightly, and as the water balloons depleted in the bucket Daichi’s energy sapped as well. As soon as the last balloon was thrown (another headshot courtesy of your accurate aim) Daichi collapsed on the lawn, chest heaving.

If someone were to say Daichi as soon as you get home your partner is going to assault you with water balloons and a strategy that was clearly thought out beforehand so be prepared, he would have laughed in their face. But sure enough you went ahead and planned an elaborate attack, helping Daichi unwind and relax after a long, terrible day at work.

He told you this now as you leaned over him, panting just a hard. Your answering smile was blinding.

“It’s hot, and I thought you could use a little pick me up. I have to clean up the balloons.”

Daichi shakes his head. “We’ll do it later, let’s order takeout and relax.”

“Okay, okay.” You laugh as you stand upright. Daichi has the perfect vantage point to catch the late sun’s rays hitting your figure, casting you in a beautiful glow. He lets his eyes slip close as he enjoys this slice of nirvana, all thanks to you.

“Yoo hoo~”

Daichi opens his eyes, just in time to see a large, red water balloon start to fall on him, and your shit eating grin watching the chaos unfold.

I love Y/N so much, Daichi thinks as he watches the balloon fall. And they are so dead.

1. Curiosity Kills The Cat

Warnings: Murder, gun, grabbing, mentions of seasonal depression, a lot of inner self-dialogue, takes place in June and mid-summer, Screaming, crying. Mixed reader with curly hair (not mentioned in this chapter). All are welcomed to read but I want to self-insert with being mixed and having curled hair.

Chapter 2

It has been hot all this week. June was always the worst during the summer season. A lot of heat waves and traffic, making it difficult for you to get home during classes—"Y/N" You redirect your attention to your classmate, Jack, "Sorry, I was distracted…um, what do you need?" "You ok? You've been 'distracted' for the previous two weeks," he said, using quotation marks around distracted. Highlighting his suspicion.

"If I'm being honest, I haven't been feeling well. Seasonal depression is kicking my ass right now," you murmured, returning your gaze to the window to avoid seeing Jack's expression. All you could do was cringe at yourself. Why will it always be so hard to open up? "I'm not trying to vent to you," you murmured as you watched the stars slowly show in the night sky. "It's fine, Y/N. You are welcome to vent to me; my mother suffers from seasonal depression as well. I know about it all."

All the more reasons to avoid venting to him, you thought.

Oh no, mom. I forgot to call her back last night, or was it Tuesday? No, it had to be last night. "Can you tell me what day it is?" you asked. "Friday, why". I haven't called her in almost three days. "Y/N!" exclaimed Jack. You quickly turned around to face him. "Stop doing that," he said, "doing what?"

"That," he explained, you were still confused. "You always appear to be in your head, as if your mind is just a working machine. All you do is just think. You may not convey it verbally, but your facial expressions do.", he quickly said. "I'm sorry". Jack sighed and started talking and you went right back to thinking. He will never understand the feeling of never being able to talk about his feelings or always being ignored or talked over. Perfect Jack would never understand that.

Jack is one of the most popular students at our nursing school. He's attractive, but his family ruin his reputation. A snubby and superior complex isn't cute anymore. "I'm sorry for not talking, but school is over now," you said, just to get him away so you could be alone. "I have a long walk and it's hot outside, I can't stay for as long as you can". Gathering your things together, Jack grabbed you by your elbow as you rose from your seat.

“You have been acting like this since you've been in this school. Are you sure it's seasonal depression? I mean it summer time now” he said. “I’m sure, sounds like you don't know it well after all." Pausing, "Jack if you ever touch me like that again, I'll beat your ass,” you said. After another awkward pause, you finally said “Bye Jack”.  He watched as you walked to the side door and left.

When you finally made it outside. You make sure to take off the student coat before walking again. As you walked, you noticed the bright lights hung in the trees; the small business stores were all closed now. Your favorite store is closed and it looks so dull, but it does look nice when the shop is open. Seeing yourself in the reflection and seeing how messy you looked, kept you moving on.

All the summer lights turned on with the cute summer clothes in the window. You made an effort to walk a little slower to take time for yourself, even if you were tired. I'm already ashamed about not having a car, so let's not add to that by being a tired bitch. You thought to yourself as you tried to move away from the spit that was on the ground.

You were taking a break when you heard laughter and noticed a group of people walking together. It made you miss your best friend. She was back in your hometown with her husband and two children.

Perhaps that's why you're like this, you reason. You're out of your element, haven't made any friends, haven't gone out, lived alone, and are now the "new girl" in school. Summer break coming up wasn't helping either.

It's not like the summer season will always be unpleasant; it could be an undesirable cause of your seasonal depression. Hopefully, "Everything takes getting used to," you tell yourself again. When you go past the usual water fountain in the park, you mentally note that you're getting close to your apartment.

Getting closer to your apartment complex, You heard a scream as you walked by the park. You came to a halt and took a glance around your surroundings. Nobody. You look around again before resuming your walk, Walking faster. Your rapid pace got you to your apartment complex faster than usual. You step in with a deep sigh.

During the summertime, you always remember to say hello to the homeless man who lives outside the complex. He always waves back. What a nice guy, you think as you make your way up to the third level. All of the elevators were "broken." You giggle. They'll never fix them.

When you arrived at your apartment, you took out your keys and entered. You stared at the hallway that was littered with shoes and jackets on the floor. A glance to your right revealed a kitchen full of dishes and leftover food from dinner. You sighed, knowing that you weren't able to get it cleaned at the moment. Finals for your nursing school are approaching, and you have yet to complete an actual day of work.

You take off your shoes and kick them to the nearest clean location. "I'll pick it up later," you said. You make your way to the living room; you're surprised at how tidy it looks. It's clean because you only had enough energy to stay in bed.

Even though your room isn't that messy, which is surprising. You were still only cleaning up in your room and bathroom since you were scared and afraid of attracting pests. You went to your room and changed into comfy clothes. You wanted to shower, but you needed to clean the kitchen and hallway first. No point in showering if I'm going to clean and get dirty again. Hopefully, it will also help clear your mind.

You put music on your TV in the living room. The first song on your relaxing playlist was Snooze by SZA. Then you got to it. Start by opening the windows and lighting a summer candle. The hallway would come first, followed by the trash.

After 2 hours of deep cleaning, you were finally finished and ready to sleep. You blew out your strawberry shortcake-scented candle and then closed the windows. You were at the back window when you noticed someone running to the back of your apartment complex. You could tell they were bloody and clearly in distress. You were on the verge of screaming at them and asking what was wrong when you paused. What if it's a trap? you questioned.

Living in one of the worst places in the city, you had to remind yourself that cases like this happen daily. You were going to close the window since you weren't sure what to do when you noticed a group.

Close the window. What's happening though.

You closed the window but were peeking through the blind. Curiosity had gotten the better of you. The person attempted to turn around, but more people emerged from the shadows to stop him. Should you contact help now? You questioned. A million questions were racing through your mind. You've never been in this type of situation before. A man approached the person who was now trapped and said something that you couldn't hear.

You guessed what the person had said because the person pulled out a gun on the guy. Then, BOOM. A loud bang rang out. You dropped to the ground. Because of the noise and knowing what happened, you screamed.

Dogs had started barking, and when you looked you noticed that some neighbors had turned on their lights. They'll call for help. You were still frozen in shock from the incident that you didn't realize if people still heard you or not. You got on your knees to see if they left or not. As if on cue with your music, the entire group was staring up at your window. Your body finally sprung into action and you backed away from the window.

You were uncontrollably shaking and crying against the back of your couch. The only thought that could process in your head was what your mom used to say all the time…

kags demonstrates once for you, and catches your eye afterwards.

the gleam in his eye because of a good serve set fades as he sees you biting your lip, flinching ever so slightly when you hear the ball fall to the floor behind you.

he’s worried.

“babe, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. i’m sorry for dragging you here without asking-”

“it’s okay!” the words leave your mouth faster than your brain can comprehend them.

your brain is saying NO!!!! BALL = BAD!!!! but your heart is telling you-

you want to do this. you’ve seen him play countless times, yet you are always left breathless after a match.

he’s not a different person on the court, but instead a heightened version of himself.

you love watching him play—he’s always focused; his gaze intensified. even from the stands you feel as if you can hear his heart racing.

and when he wins, you can feel your chest burst, and you beam in pride. you scream and shout so loudly that you lose your voice for the next week and a half.

and when he hugs you after, sweaty and all, you feel his excitement.

you want to understand that, to understand him. and also to understand why he was spending more time on volleyball than with you grrr >:(

“i want to do it.” you smile reassuringly at him.

he’s usually not physical in public but he can’t help but pull you in for a hug. he looks around to see if any of his teammates are around though... he’s shy 👉🏻👈🏻

you bury your face in his chest.

before he pulls away he gives you a kiss on the forehead.

“this is why i love you.”

you blush, and he grins.

“okay.” kageyama asks, “you ready?”

you nod, determined.

he throws the ball up in the air towards you, and you feel time slowing down.

as if you’re in a sports anime, you can hear the clock ticking in your head as the volleyball approaches you.

this is fine, you think, almost smiling before-

OH MY GOD IT’S SO CLOSE

you close your eyes and hit the ball, opening it to see kageyama spiking it over the net, and it landing with a loud BAM!

you did it!!!

kags turns to you, mouth slightly agape.

“that was amazing!”

not caring if anyone is there, he picks you up and spins you

“it was really great! not too high, not too low, not too close to the net but not too far either- how did you do that?”

you flush red, partially from the praise and partially from the intensity of kageyama’s gaze.

“i, um, just wanted to get the ball away from me so i um... hit it away?”

you scratch your head.

kageyama laughs.

a hearty laugh, proud and amused.

“you’re a cutie, you know that?”

(hinata saw that!!!

“y/n!!! wow!!! that was amazing! you should play more!!! then we can form a team with nishinoya and call ourselves the shorties!!! with a little training, you could be better than kageyama-”

he is cut off by kageyama throwing a ball at his head)

ANYWAYS after a while, one of the girls playing asks you to join her team because daichi, even though he definitely isn’t playing at his 100%, is still basically trashing them

seeing daichi play stirs up a sense of competitiveness in you, so of course you say yes!

it’s your turn to serve.

daichi is in the back row, and you swear just the other day when you came to meet him at practice you saw yamaguchi doing a weird air ball thing.

do beach volleyballs work the same way i’m assuming so

you take a deep breath and grin at daichi, before throwing the volleyball up, doing a jump and hitting it!

you tilt your head to look at daichi... who failed to receive your serve!

“YES!” you fist pumped the air, high fiving your team mates.

you stick your tongue out playfully at daichi, who laughs at the jokes that you’re better than him at volleyball

later on

you both are strolling arm in arm, the sea breeze blowing lightly against your faces.

“y/n... how did you do that serve just now? have you been practicing?”

you tilted your head.

“no, i just watched yamaguchi do it last week. it looked simple enough.”

daichi turns towards you.

“wah, my girlfriend is a natural!”

he pats your head.

“maybe i should get you to join the girl’s volleyball team. we’d be... what do they call it? a power couple!”
