A fankid AU: Introduction

Circa 200 years into the future…

Past the death of the renowned, world famous hero: Sonic the Hedgehog, his immortal rival resides in a secluded location not many know about, or dare to stumble upon. He’s made himself a peaceful abode, isolated from the rest of the world— prying eyes or hands seeking his power or presence.

Shadow merely wishes to live without the stress of catastrophe weighing on his shoulders. And with the death of the biggest villain of the era- Doctor Robotnik, he succeeds for the most part- until a mysterious illness overcomes him, and he’s forced to reach out for help.

Upon wandering to the familiar-yet-changed Emerald Town, Shadow spots a recognizable logo on a building.

With curiosity and intrigue, the ebony hedgehog makes his next exploration the inside of this tall establishment.

No, it will not stay this well formatted most of the time. Guess I just felt like putting effort into it.

This au focuses around Tails, Shadow, and my fankid, Sparks! (No ships between these three, although they do end up as a family of sorts.) (+ Silver, who exists around this time, gets to be the cool cousin of sorts)

Shadow, as described, had isolated himself for quite a few years. And got an illness. But it’s far from mysterious.

His inhibitor rings have rusted and aren’t as effective as they were, well, 200 years ago, causing his chaos energy to run irregularly and make him fatigued/sick. Of course, it was a gradual process, so it was a little difficult to have spotted it right away. And when you’re sick, the obvious becomes… less obvious?

During this lengthy intermission between supposed canon and au, (I may go off canon quite a bit. I’m not professionally well versed in all the Sonic lore…) Miles Prower (formedly gone as “Tails” for his iconic two tailed ‘mutation’) had grown rather successful. A well-off entrepreneur of his own brand. He lives comfortably, although he does lack the bonds he once had.

As a kitsune, Miles’ life expectancy is lengthened, and gaining another tail every 100 years. He had existed much past his more mortal friends and allies, but pushed forwards to a brighter future, sort of. In this time, he has developed more of his kitsune oriented abilities, taking a favor to illusions.

Shadow wanders upon the main building, the HQ erected at Emerald Town, where his house once was. As Shadow wanders, Miles is aware of the old friend bumbling through the building and decides to play a little prank with some illusions and the high tech security measures he has installed in the building. (Nothing harmful, promise)

Once Shadow reaches the top, Miles reveals himself with a bold act of bravado. As of which they have some reunion and reaccqeuaintence time. Shadow explains his problem to Miles, Miles points out the problem and offers to make Shadow new inhibitor rings (and fix his air shoes in the process). Afterwards, he offers a residence for Shadow with him, but the hedgehog refuses, intending to return to his reclusive life.

On his path of return, he comes across a kid, sitting alone in the rain.

He resembles someone.

Spiky blue quills colored like the wind and the sky, peachy fur on his chest and muzzle. Pointed ears, although a bit droopier.

He sat with his legs pressed against his chest, on the edge of the sidewalk. Alone, yet he wears an expression closer to irritation rather than fear or melancholy.

After some questioning, he discovers that the kid ran from an orphanage, one he describes as nasty and disrespectful to him, like gum sticking his shoe to the floor. He describes that he had ran, to find some freedom. He’s a fast runner, you know? Maybe if he can get faster and faster, he may actually break the barrier keeping him chained to the orphanage.

When the sky darkens, illuminating the moon and the stars, Shadow stands. To lead the kid back to where he should be encourages him to have hope, but without acting to give him it. Words are empty when actions don’t reflect it.

The kid begs to let him free. Lead him somewhere else, not back to his prison. No one will take him back in the orphanage. He deserves to be free. He can take care of himself out here- a string of reasons to grasp why he shouldn’t go back.

Shadow continues to walk in silence.

Perhaps it was pity. Shadow would like to believe it is, but it’s hard to describe the pull of his actions towards another decision. He felt this was right, despite denial weighing on this choice.

Shadow returned to the tall building, where Miles— although surprised to see his return— welcomed him back warmly. When asked for the reason of his return, Shadow provides a rather bashful explanation.

He doesn’t know how to take care of a child.

Eyyyy it’s the old man (quite literally at this point. He’s like 200+ years??). How did he survive all those years in isolation without going insane?? I have no idea. He probably talks to the animal inhabitants of the place he lived in I think. I like to think maybe he found himself an ancient library to make himself at home and spent most of his time reading books and doing house chores.

To be honest I tried to reference other Shadow redesigns because I also wanted to put some more Black Arms traits on him, but I honestly don’t know know much about the Black Arms so all he got was a longer tail <3

He’s a tiiiny bit pinker in this design. Like the red highlights on his quills are more pivoted towards the pink on the color wheel, and the white fur also has a tint of pink. No reason. He just gets to be slightly pinker. As a treat.

Anyways, you may be wondering, why didn’t Shadow take the offer of staying with Miles the first time? After being alone without friends were so long, you would think he is drawn to the idea of having company again. Well, the thing is, I think that Shadow hates change, in a way. He’s drawn himself away from society, lived self sustained, without the pressures and all that. Suddenly, he gets the offer to reintegrate into a society he is not well versed in? Seems incredibly overwhelming. And Shadow believes he was perfectly content in his serene lifestyle.

He only reconsidered the second time because he doesn’t know how to take care of the kid he freshly adopted (and probably not correctly adopted either) and only thought of Tails for help. As far as he knows, Tails is the only other old friend that exists alongside him right now so…

This sets up the story of Shadow and Tails tries to take care of this kid and slowly forms into a type of found family that doesn’t quite fit into the boundaries of what a family would be like. They are not even close to traditional family roles, I think, other than a child-parent relationship between Shadow and Sparks (who I have yet to introduce)

During this story, Shadow gets back into the action of adventure again. He’s reminded of the exhilaration he felt in the past. Even little things such as banter and skating down hill. He missed it all, although he doesn’t admit it.

Here is Miles!! He dropped the name “Tails” after a while, deeming it something he doesn’t identify as deeply with anymore. (Maybe because no one was around to call him that old nickname anymore)

So you know how I mentioned he’s become an entrepreneur of sorts? It was bound to happen, I think. Imagine living 200+ years and still not figuring out how to earn the most money and live comfortably.

Anyways, while coloring his design, I did realize that he vaguely reminds me of Eggman… it’s probably the red, gold and white colors. Fits him well though, yeah? He always did share some traits with Eggman, I think. He just turned out more benevolent, he still has the high tech tendencies that Eggman held, as well as other habits.

I think Miles had earned some of an ego over time. When most acquaintances leave(died), and you rise to the top, everyone feels so far. And Miles stop bothering to seek out meaningful relationships to save him some suffering. He can still have fun, he can still have friends- just not with the strong intimate bond he had with his initial family.

When Shadow returned, he felt a spark- the hope- the opportunity to have a semblance of the old life again. Nostalgia is a strong feeling. That is why he offered for Shadow to stay. He didn’t expect him to, but that didn’t stop his heart from swelling with joy when Shadow did return.

Here is Sparks! The kid Shadow picked off the street yaknow yaknow… He is meant to resemble Sonic. Not uncannily resemble him though. Just enough that both Shadow and Tails can look at him and think… he kind of reminds me of his other blue hedgehog I had a deep connection with….

Part of why Shadow adopted Sparks is honestly because of his resemblance to Sonic. He would not like to acknowledge it, as it seems like such a cruel thing to give the hope of a new connection to someone that doesn’t know that that new connection did not start off new at all in the other side.

Of course, Sparks acts nothing like Sonic, despite similar appearances. Even though Sparks also shares the same sentiments— wanting freedom— as well as abilities— such as superspeed— Sparks acts more towards the pessimistic side. He’s not as charming as Sonic had been. (And although he does have superspeed, I believe it’s not to the extent that Sonic had.)

Additionally, when Shadow had been taking him back to the orphanage, he really wasn’t forced. Sparks intended to follow him back. Perhaps out of habit. And inevitable loop of escaping but returning once again. But also because if cowardice, knowing he wouldn’t be able to make it by himself. He’s immature, he’s inexperienced, Sparks is aware of that, yet still tries- only to the extent of what he knows he can succeed: aka running away, but never staying away. His cowardice is one of the traits he does not share with Sonic.

During his description of the orphanage to Shadow, he’s a bit of an unreliable narrator. The orphanage isn’t as miserable as Sparks describes it as. It’s a pretty normal orphanage, Sparks is just a troublemaker- and he hates the idea of being trapped in one place.

Anyways, Sparks resembles a star of sorts. He’s a little star themed. <3

hello im going to talk about my non fankid oc's because i feel like i talk too much about my children (sorry) and too little about my other characters and i know probably no one cares but fuck you/lh im going to force you to care/j

Tools the Chinchilla (she/they) is the oldest character in the group! (Ironically age wise they're the youngest, being 14). They're an anti hero, of sorts?? But I think a better way to describe her is just a silly chinchilla doing her own thing, not caring about anyone else. They really just care about what they have going on and are going to do whatever they need to get things done. She does not care about relationships at all, and only tries to get closer to someone if it benefits her. They're a investigator/scientist, mostly studying about chaos, so you can guess how that leads her to follow the main cast around, trying to act all friendly to get info out of them (but everyone knows she doesn't actually like them because she's really bad at acting). She also has a very big ego, and constantly compares herself to characters like Tails of Eggman, pushing them both down although she's not really an inventor, unless she needs something specific.

Prince the Peacock (he/him) is my boy!!! I love his concept. He has hypnotic powers thanks to his feathers, and he also cares a lot about his looks. He's very sophisticated, but also very high energy and friendly (he can be a little too much, in fact). He's also a bit naive, but that's mostly because he usually sees the best in people, and believes anyone can be good if he's just nice enough. He sees himself and Tools as best friends, even though she can't stand him, he just thinks they're shy. He's a little bit too scared of everything, but after being saved by the Resistance during the war he feels like he needs to do his part, so he's actually quite brave and very usually pushes himself out of his comfort zone.

Ferocity the Spider (she/her) seems to be somewhat of a fan favorite, and I think that might be thanks to her goth lolita fashion and the fact that she's a spider, definitely not something seen in the Sonic franchise. She's a full on villain, and is que agressive. She has all of the abilities spiders commonly have, but I can't get more specific than that. I'm way too scared of spiders and could only use drawings as reference for her design, so I didn't actually take the time to decide what kind of spider she is bskdbskfnskx She has every move calculated, and takes everything into account, she's very careful and methodic, but, like I said, when she needs to, she can get very agressive and scary. She's also very closed off and untrustful, so while she does have someone she works with (more on that later), she usually prefers to do things herself, just to make sure.

Joy the Horse (she/her) is a total sweetie. She's very shy and quiet, but has the biggest heart ever. She's a baker!!! And has her own bakery:) she sometimes brings some of her baked goods to Restoration HQ because some of her friends are there. She's softspoken and kind, but don't look down on her! She can kick you over the next city if she needs to>:) usually in defense, not in offense. She doesn't fight often, but if her or someone she cares about is involved she goes all out trying to help. Also Joy is the only one Tools tries to be friends with, but that's because they want free food. Joy knows this, and yet she still pretends she doesn't see when the chinchilla sneaks a cookie into their pocket.

Torch the Angler Fish (they/them) is Ferocity's right hand!!! Mostly just the dumb henchman in cartoons. They're way too energetic and impulsive, which is why Ferocity usually has to hold them down. They normally do the dirty work; if they need to fight, Torch will do it while Ferocity watches from the shadows and only interferes if needed. Torch, of course, has a little light that can lure people closer to them, and they often hide in the shadows, to then attack by surprise. They enjoy scaring people, they're a bit of an asshole lol. I said Ferocity is agressive, and yet, Torch is the most agressive of the two, which makes them a bit more scary.

Index the Secretary Bird (she/her) is a cute girly who works for the Restoration as, you guessed it, a secretary. I imagine she was friends with Jewel, and when she saw how much work the beetle had, she decided to step in and help. She's also very methodic, and strict. She actually was a librarian before she joined the Restoration, so you can be sure she has outstanding organization skills. She's a bit unexpressive, and distant, but definitely not mean, and if you manage to get close to her you'll have a friend who will give you the best advice and will listen to you with all of her attention!! She also has some knowledge in first aids, so when needed she also helps in that area.

And yeah that's that the fankids get too much attention so these guys also needed a post dedicated to talking about them tehee

Alternate title:: Mika and Mala 12 minutes before committing crimes against the spider society!

(Part of my fankids au is the spider HQ basically going "Listen we know ya'll f*cking so we made a care facility/academy to keep your kids safe and silently judge for having them.")

I finally got all my fankids in one picture! This is also one of the few instances of my art coming out almost exactly how I pictured, I'm kinda proud...ANYWAY BACK TO TALKING ABOUT THESE THREE GREMLINS.

From oldest to youngest::

🌸-Mikenzie Prabhakar-Brown (Age: 12), nicknamed "Mika", Is an extremely blunt and straightforward person. Her fathers often describe her as "intelligent and self-aware", while others call her "Cold and Creepy". She rarely socializes with other kids, often preferring to keep to herself.

⚡- Malesha Prabhakar-Brown (Age: 12, Younger by 25 minutes), nicknamed "Mala", She's an extremely rowdy and loud kid, known for her "anger issues". Despite her chaotic attitude she, like her sister, is extremely intelligent. She's much more social than her sister and has gained a bit of popularity around the academy.

💙-Niraj Prabhakar-Brown (Age: 10), nicknamed "Raja", Often confused for a girl, Niraj is a very shy, quiet, and sweet person. A lot of people are often shocked to know he's related to his sisters. He's much for sociable than either of them as well.

👶- What’s your baby’s name? How did you both decide on this name?

Our baby's name is Calvin! I came up with it. It's just a name I've always liked. Ray likes to call him "Cal" and I think that's cute.

🫧- What traits did your baby inherit from each of you? Who do they seem most like?

Calvin definitely looks most like Ray. He's got the same face shape, hair color, eye color. He's going to grow up to look exactly like Ray, and I couldn't be more thrilled! Some of his personality traits remind me of myself, though. He seems a little bit on the quieter side so I think he inherited my shyness.

🎁- How has the baby’s presence changed the dynamic between you and your F/O?

Ray has been wonderful with the baby, he's a great dad, just like I thought he would be. But, ever since I got pregnant, he's been even more protective of me than ever before. He's always been attentive, but now he gets nervous about me being anywhere near HQ with all the dangerous equipment and experiments. Even me just delivering his lunch to the firehouse makes him antsy. And there's no way the baby is coming anywhere near there. I really don't think he needs to worry, but on the other hand I think it's really sweet how responsible he is.

The "HQ"s the other fankids have in the Citadel AU are run down and crappy-- or at least nowhere near as amazing, high-tech, and huge as Starco's citadel; It's a freaking CITADEL. That's why all the other fankids wanna get in.

Oh. Well that changes things… 

Maybe it was a joke meant to highlight that star/co fankids are more popular? Still, it doesn’t sound very nice.

So, how did Tory end up with the twins?

[This content is out of date and no longer canon (Rafe no longer has any children aside from Sibyl)]

The short answer is that I love drama-filled plotlines and liked the idea of giving Pierce a bunch of lovechildren after chats with @pkmnomegaverse regarding fun drama ideas and this just escalated from that.

The long answer will be under a cut because things might get a tad spicy since it’s relationship drama after all. I’ll also talk about Rafe and his family since it all ties in.

Essentially, here’s how things went. Tory and Bianca (the one from the movie) are happily married and living in LaRousse with their son, Giotto. Rafe is also living in LaRousse, but he’s less happy. Rafe met Tobias by chance at a small-scale tournament while he was travelling in Sinnoh and the two ended up bonding while discussing battling strategies and their encounters with Legendary pokemon. One thing led to another and they end up hooking up and exchanging numbers - Tobias is always travelling around so they could easily meet again if they happened to be near each other. Rafe returns home to Hoenn and eventually decides to settle down in his hometown, beginning work at the Battle Tower helping to referee matches and make sure things run smoothly. He’s also still been occasionally meeting with and hooking up with Tobias over this time period, though he’s also been considering just breaking that off and finding someone to settle down with, since all his friends seem to be doing that. 

Unfortunately, things go awry when Rafe unexpectedly ends up pregnant with Tobias’s child, something neither of them were planning for. Rafe does want the kid, but he also doesn’t want to be a single father, so he tries to convince Tobias to settle down with him for their baby’s sake. Tobias, on his part, does try, but ultimately he’s a wanderer at heart, so the situation really just ends up being Rafe as a single father and Tobias being the disappeared dad who shows up occasionally with a souvenir from another region for their son, Azariah, and to “catch up” with Rafe. Since things as they are obviously aren’t exactly satisfying in the love-life department for Rafe, he decides to branch out a bit. He’s pretty sure Tobias isn’t being exclusive when he’s out travelling, so why should Rafe stay exclusive himself? He ends up arranging a sort of friends-with-benefits setup with Tory and Bianca, occasionally joining them for threesomes, which they agree to since they like how it spices up their own love life. Things continue like this for a while, with Tory and Bianca as the happy couple and Rafe making due raising his son and with a not-great but still workable deadbeat boyfriend.

Then Pierce shows up. Pierce, in this AU, has a habit of going a bit wild, both when at the recreated Team Rocket HQ in Johto and when out on missions. He likes having sex with multiple partners, but doesn’t like being committed to anyone, preferring the hookup lifestyle. He also happens to be Tobias’s brother in this AU, though the two are barely in touch with each other. Nonetheless, Pierce is aware that Tobias has a sort-of boyfriend and a kid living in Hoenn, so when he ends up near LaRousse on a mission, he decides to check the situation out. Rafe is definitely surprised to meet Pierce, since he didn’t even know Tobias had a brother, but all the same… Pierce looks an awful lot like Tobias, Rafe is always low-key pining after Tobias, Pierce likes to have fun with hookups on missions, Rafe has regular threesomes with two friends. One thing leads to another, and the end result is Tory and Bianca deciding to have a foursome with Rafe and Pierce. This is definitely a rare chance for something extra different and wild after all. And they all have a good time, Pierce leaves once his mission’s complete and they all go back to their usual lives.

That is until both Rafe and Tory find out they’re expecting. Rafe is… mostly ok with this. He knows the kid is obviously not Tobias’s, but maybe this is a good chance to finally break up with Tobias since things were obviously not working out between them. Having another kid might be nice, let Azariah be a big brother and all. Tory, on the other hand, takes it really badly. He hates the thought that the child might not be Bianca’s. Well, he’d feel better if they were Rafe’s, since at least he’s a friend, but what if the kid is the random criminal’s? This was the worst idea and he can’t believe he thought it would be harmless fun. Bianca is trying to comfort her husband and say she doesn’t mind whatever happens, that the child will be hers no matter what since Tory’s her husband, but it doesn’t do much, especially when Tory finds out he’s having twins. Eventually, once all three babies are born, they’re able to confirm that Rafe’s son is Pierce’s and Tory has one twin that’s Rafe’s and the other is Pierce’s (if Beatrice’s dark blue hair hadn’t made it obvious). Of course, this is a lot to take in for all three parents, but they’re determined to make this work and not let one crazy night mess up their entire futures. Eventually, after he formally breaks up with Tobias, Rafe decides to move himself and his sons in with Tory and Bianca - though just as roommates since even if they’re fwb, he’s not about to come between a married couple in the romantic department. Tory’s from a wealthy family, so his and Bianca’s house is definitely big enough for all seven of them and the kids all grow up together and consider each other siblings. It’s a bit chaotic and a bit of an odd situation, but they all made the best of it and are quite happy by the main fankid era.

Am I actually about to share my Star vs the Forces of Evil fankid on my main blog? You bet your ass I am.

Anyway here’s Manna Butterfly, a human/cyclops hybrid next-in-line for the throne. Star was (still is) a party animal and partied a little too hard on her 25th birthday, hooking up with a Cyclops that ollied out before Star even knew she was pregnant with Manna.

Star is not popular with the older conservative Mewnis to say the least. In fact, Star might have surpassed Eclipsa in the “oh boy the Queen f*cked up” list. Regardless, Manna was no less loved by Star and her boundless other parents.

That being said, with the interdimensional love child mess, Manna has like a million identifications because she uses the same justification for every base; “Well, they practically raised me alongside Star!” and she’s not lying. She likes chilling at the Janco mooncamp and Tomstar HQ the most. The Starco Citadel has no idea what to do with her, half the time she can stay and the other half she gets booted out of the airlock.

Starco Citadel belongs to @moringmark whom honestly got me re-interested in SVTFOE fankids.
