hello Blair 👋 I saw you mentioned Alanza and I’m showing up bc despite jc completely fumbling her, I still like her

I think the two biggest issues is when she’s introduced and that the game does not know what to do with her. She should have been introduced before Rowan’s death. That way we get to know her as her own character instead of “Rowan’s replacement.”

Since she’d be the new student for the year, I’m pretty sure people would still suspect her of being the mole. My guess is that jc dropped her because so many people seem to dislike her. There’s a whole can of worms on how hphm handles its numerous characters. I will have to save that for another day.

Alanza was set to be an interesting character and I do wish we had learned more about her days at Castelobruxo. I’m ignoring my own numerous headcanons to flesh her out. Main things that stick out to me is her time surviving in the rainforest as a first year. She has this very cheerful demeanor but surely that must have had an impact on her eleven year old self. Then she’s supposed to be from a prominent Brazilian wizarding family. What are they like? How do people treat her as a member of an at least somewhat famous family? She seems to enjoy adventuring so of all the characters to join the vault hunt, she should’ve been included. Then the wiki says she was part of a band back at Castelobruxo (it also says she can play nine instruments which I do not remember.) What if we saw her bonding with the Weird Sisters over music?

Jumping into headcanon territory: I’ve headcanoned that Alanza’s upbeat demeanor contrasts with her parents’ more serious selves. When her grandmother was alive, she was able to mediate between Alanza and her parents. However after she died, things became more tense at home. It also didn’t help that their fame meant Alanza was constantly being compared to her family. She decided to become an exchange student partly to get a fresh start where people will judge her as her own person and also bc like I mentioned earlier, she likes an adventure.

to be nice to hphm, Alanza’s design is my favorite from this game. I don’t have some deep analysis on it; I just think she’s cute. Plus I like the mole she has.

Oh, I like her too. She just...feels like a one-off, like a character introduced in a TLSQ who then slides into the background.

Instead, like you talked about, the story drops everything to introduce her - right after Rowan dies and The Circle is formed, no less - and not long before The Mole is first mentioned. They had to know, right? The writers had to realize the circumstances surrounding Alanza were suspicious, so I think she was a deliberate red herring. Especially giving her a loose connection to Rakepick. But she's a red herring who never gets herring'd, because the characters never outright suspect her.

I didn't even realize she was widely disliked, is that true? Because I liked her just fine. I was suspicious of her past and her motives, and it wasn't lost on me how the story tried to insert her into a "Rowan" like role (which it later did more directly with Corey) but hey, that wasn't exactly her fault, and assuming she was totally genuine in her nature, then she was a good person, right?

The Rain Forest Incident is so telling. I've always had the headcanon that Rakepick rescued her from that bit of trouble. Because despite what Alanza says, despite what the writers might want us to believe, there is no way she could have known Rakepick smelled like cinnamon without having gotten close to her. MC didn't even know that.

As far as her time in Castelobruxo, I'm getting...Weasley twin vibes. Popular with the students, nightmare for the staff. If she comes from a prominent family, that's already easy mode for popularity like it was for Draco. Not to mention she's in a band and is apparently multi-faceted? Nah, this girl had friends. But then again, none of them write to her when she moves out to the U.K, so maybe it was all just surface level? Sad to say...

Oh man. What you're describing is...so familiar. It reminds me a lot of Tulip and her situation with her own family, right down to having grandparents who mediate. The idea that Alanza joined the exchange program to get away from - at least part of - her family is devastating, but it makes sense. She chose to remain at Hogwarts for another year, and neglected to mention why. But she would have been 17 by that point, so, it would be her choice, right?

The Casteobruxo robes look superb, they really do. They're one of the few costumes that genuinely look like something people in this world would wear, because yes I'm still hung up on how none of them wear robes in the movies. As far as her face goes, she is adorable, that's for sure!

No. Carewyn honestly grew out of sleeping with stuffed animals rather early -- she stopped at the age of three, not long after Jacob first went off to school. She was much more prone to tucking her Paddington bear into its own tiny "bed" on the windowsill under a spare scarf rather than hugging it herself as she fell off to sleep.

6. Sandwiches or soup?

Carewyn loves soup in the wintertime. Her mum Lane was especially prone to making up a pot of Scotch Broth on cold nights, and Carewyn ends up learning more vegetarian-friendly soup recipes after becoming legal partners with Orion.

Well, for one, Jules Farrier @cursebreakerfarrier is Carewyn's honorary Slytherin Sister! She could see no one better suited to be Bill's other half. Carewyn also befriends fellow Slytherin Night Rhea @night-rhea through Quidditch friendlies and Ravenclaw Cato Reese @catohphm through baking in the kitchens and both Sarahi Silvers @dat-silvers-girl and Wendy Gordon @drinkyoursoupbitch post-Hogwarts. Carewyn's brother Jacob also becomes close with Sarahi's brother Jacob and Ellie Hopper's family @thatravenpuffwitch, especially her grandfather, Lugh Hopper.

Ugh, Carewyn would HATE being asked this -- because yes, although she has more favorite Muggle bands than wizard ones, that's largely because the Wizarding World's music scene is so much smaller and less diverse, compared to the Muggle World's! She adores the Weird Sisters and deeply appreciates the talent of artists like Celestina Warbeck, Lorcan D'Eath, and Spellb🔮und, and yet she also loves the Eurythmics, Elton John, Queen, KISS, AC/DC, David Bowie, Carly Simon, and so many others. It was a fine morning in a quiet neighbourhood, in the outskirts of London, much closer to the countryside. There stood a massive tree in between of two little cottage-like houses. Believe me, it's ridiculously huge.

Due to the tree, the two families who resided in those two particular houses could not install a fence. Thank Merlin that they were good friends.

Now, on top of this tree sat two teenage girls scouring the whole neighbourhood. A serious brunette, and a pretty girl with light brown hair. The tree gave such a great view, with the vast meadows and flowers that sprinkles across the green fields, providing tiny little pops of colours

It was obvious that the two were searching for something... or specifically, someone. Adel and Ammie invited a few mates over for some fun, and they were really excited.

"Why haven't they come yet?" whined Amethyst. "Have patience, I'm sure they'll come soon" Adel replied softly. A loud crack scared the crap out of them. "ROWAN!" they yelled in unison

Adel and Ammie jumped off the tree, thankfully not getting hurt (they're witches!) and run into the arms of beloved Rowan, their best friend, who meant the world to them.

"Adel, Ammie, it's so great to see you!" beamed Rowan, although the hug between her and Adel was a tad bit too long. "You too! We're waiting for Kay and Kat to arrive" Ammie grinned "Tonks is inside, she's waiting for all the drama to begin"

"Yeah, I expected her to do that-" Rowan paused "Who's that?" she asked, pointing at the fence on Ammie's side of the house. Ammie swiftly turned around and rolled her eyes upon the sight of that blonde girl. "Her? She's a muggle. She thinks we're witches and she's trying to get some evidence and turn us in" Adel frowned. "Ugh, she's such a bitch. Sticks her fat nose into everything" Ammie added in disgust

"I don't think she seems that bad-" Rowan began. "OI YOU, MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS" Ammie yelled. The blonde muggle stuck her tongue out and ran away as the two of them sniggered. "That doesn't seem very nice" Rowan frowned. "Rowan, you have no idea what this dumb bitch has done" Adel scoffed "She's trying to give us hell"

Another loud pop distracted them once again. "Hey! Kay and Kat are here!" Adel exclaimed. The two figures ran towards them. Kay was a short red-head with a wide grin on his face. Kat had the most wild blond hair, and she was really tall too. "Hey guys! Whatchu talking about?" asked Kat

"Ah, just about that dumb bitch who lives next door" Ammie sighed. "Dumb bitch?" Kay asked curiously. "Forget about her. Have you gotten the instruments?" Adel asked excitedly. "How the fuck would we forget?" Kay scowled. "Let's get into the garage" Ammie suggested. "Alrighty" Adel grinned "Mine or yours?"

"Yours. Tonks will probably make a mess. Besides, blondie muggle can't spy on us" Ammie said. The gang sat down in Adel's garage in silence. "What exactly should the song be about?" asked Kat

"I-I don't know" Ammie murmured. "How about... Sandwiches!" Adel exclaimed. "Sandwiches? That's a bit dumb" Kay frowned. "The Sadness of the Sandwiches?" suggested Kat. "By the Drunk Bowtruckles" Ammie added. "Ooh! That's brilliantly stupid! I love it!" Adel grinned.

Rowan, in the meantime, was reading a book as she spectated the brainstorming session. She was here just to help in vocabulary and recording.

An hour later, the four of them were really pleased with their masterpiece.

"Wow" Kat grinned. "Wow indeed" Ammie smiled "This is actually great" Adel said excitedly. "This isn't bad, I actually like it" Kay added. Rowan proof-read their work, and was really pleased with it. "Although you could reduce the bad words-"

"OI!" yelled Adel. "Holy crap it's the dumb bitch!" Ammie scowled. There she was, the blondie muggle, snooping over the hedge. "That's the muggle?" asked Kay. "Yeah, Merlin, I hate her. She knows we do magic, but she doesn't have proof"

"Can I chase her off?" Kay asked hopefully. "Go ahead" smirked Adel. Kay goes out to confront the muggle, and the others wait. "You look like an owl when you stare at me like that Adel" Rowan commented, making her go red in the face

After an hour or so of tuning, they were ready for the gig. "Ready? 1.. 2.. 3.. start!" Rowan counted. With Ammie on the electric guitar, Kay on the bass, Kat on the piano and Adel on the drums, the song began.

"I enter the great hall

For a nice big lunch

flooed from the muggle mall

after giving that bully a punch" Adel began

"I sit down beside my mates

and asked what’s the special today

holy crap it’s something I hate

why did it have to be this way?" continues Kay

"Sand and wich, sand and wich

all for the wizard and witch

upon the sight of one sandwich

all of us we cry like bitches

It’s the sadness of the sandwiches" they all sang in unison

"There's nothing to eat

only this dumb sandwich

filled with mayo and meat

reminds me of the dumb bitch

Again, as they sang the chorus in harmony, having the time of their lives, with Rowan low-key vibing to the catchy tune.

With a last note, the song ceased, and Rowan stopped recording. "That was brilliant, you guys!" she gushed "It's worth being on WizardTube"

"Well... That was great" Kat grinned. "Wanna go get some ice cream?" Adel suggested. "Fuck yeah"

-they both have unusual ways to tackle things so boredom isn’t common for them

-Badeea loves to draw and paint while Neon plays the violin or guitar for her, no singing tho (yet), helps her with artblock

-she goes to Neon’s Quidditch matches, but she’s always the only one sitting down, sketchbook on her lap, she likes to draw what happens in the air. After that she shows them to Neon, which cheers her up when she ends up in the Hospital Wing.

-Has a block filled only for sketches of Neon, but she keeps it secret because it’s embarassing, and Neon would use it to tease her (just a little bit, she’d think it’s cute)

-Badeea is more lowkey about PDA, like holding hands or chaste kisses, while Neon doesn’t care much, shameless, so she adapts to what Badeea is comfortable with 

-Since Neon knows quite a lot about Spanish art she takes Badeea to musems and acts as her personal guide, Badeea loves to hear it all from her rather than the actual guides

-she almost had a heart attack when she saw all the pieces Neon has in her house, she said she could keep any she liked but she refused

As for platonic relationships, I’ve given Neon some as I said in previous posts, with Rowan ( Meredith/Alex brotp like) with Penny (Meredith/Cristina brotp, yeah I know I can be annoying with grey’s anatomy, let me live >:v), with Charlie and Tonks definetly too. Neon manages to surround her with good hearted people who won’t give up on her, she needs that 😔

But talking about the ating options, and putting aside Penny for a moment, a very important friendship I didn’t expect to develop and make so close is Neon and Jae. At first they were just supposed to be casual friends that get along because of detention, but the more I drew them, the more I liked them and their interactions, and soon enough I made it “canon” that they stay close even after graduation, where Neon hires him to work for her, playing at his strenghts. It feels right that they get so close as they get to know each other, bonding over how they hate that others percieve them negatively for things they have no control over, like Jae being better at “the wrong sort of stuff” or Neon being expected to do wrong or turn violent at some provocation.

They definetly are “I’ll be your best man/woman and get you so drunk you’ll look like shit at the wedding pictures” 

they’re ride or die for each other, specially at the stupidest dangerous shit, gotta headbutt your problems away, and their heads are very hard.

Neon’s strongest friendships are diferent ones from the others but I love them all the same.

The band is called “Wreaking Havoc” because all of the members are pretty mischievous, even if they don’t show it *cough* Penny *cough*.

It’s also called “Wreaking Havoc” because Oregon’s last name is Havoc and she’s the lead singer.

Dennis sits on the side of the stage at all of their performances.

Oregon is the lead singer and plays backup guitar(acoustic).

Penny is the backup singer.

Chiara plays the drums.

Tonks plays the keyboard.

Tulip plays the bass.

Yes, when the song calls for an acoustic guitar she does sit on a stool like a fucking indie kid.

But when she’s not playing the guitar she’s on roller skates.*

Muggle!MC Challenge

The timing of your challenge couldn’t have been better, @cursebreakerfarrier​, because I was actually thinking about this the other day!

Muggle!Lee: 

Lee was a mix of jock and nerd growing up. Participated in sports like football and rugby, and cofounded his secondary school’s chess club with his friend Murphy McNully.  

He was also super into computer science and physics. 

(Most sciences are fascinating to him, really. Biology is probably his least favorite.) 

A gifted student. Valedictorian of his class in both secondary school and university... at the cost of his sleep schedule and sanity, among other things. 

Seriously. Keeping up with classes, extracurricular activities, and work would be difficult for any person, but for someone like Lee who has trouble retaining focus for extended periods of time, it was especially taxing. He was working his fingers to the bone and fueling up on caffeine daily to survive.

Speaking of university, in my early drafts of Lee’s HPHM character, I toyed with the idea of him being an inventor of some sort in the future, so my mind immediately went to robotics for Muggle!Lee. I could see him pursuing something like electrical engineering as a major and future career.

He would definitely be a big fan of MythBusters later in life when it aired, btw. That’s just a given. 

And I could see him taking part in those competitions where robots designed by the player(s) fight each other. Idk, it just feels like something he’d be totally into haha.

As for his love life, that was one of the ‘other things’ that suffered as a result of Lee's hectic schedule/workaholic tendencies. 

Before his husband, his most significant relationship was with aspiring athlete Skye Parkin, and it was very tumultuous. On-and-off-again for years, with a bad ending. Completely destroyed their friendship and turned Lee off to serious relationships for a long time. 

Later in his adulthood, Lee met Detective Talbott Winger at a mutual friend’s (Penny's!) birthday party. He saw him hovering on the outskirts of the crowd and made it his mission that night to talk to him. 

Talbott, being the grumpy introvert we know and love, had every intention to duck out of the party early and was subsequently very annoyed when a random guy came up to him and started making conversation. 

They talked out on the balcony until three in the morning, and in the end, Tal gave Lee his number. To this day, he has no idea how that happened.

They got married two years later, and have been together ever since. 

Their family includes three older children they adopted together, a toad named Toad, and a pair of parrots named after two of Talbott’s favorite poets. 

Muggle!Phoebe:

She was 100% a band geek growing up. Was always involved in orchestra and choir all throughout her education years. Some things never change. 

She also occasionally partook in football with friends, playing as a goalie. 

It’s through this where she meets Orion Amari, a new kid at their school who asked to join their game after watching them play. 

Considering he didn’t look like the jock type, Phoebe was unprepared for how damned good a player he was and lost her goal-saving hot streak to a well-executed score of his. It wasn’t enough to save his team, but it kickstarted Phoebe’s friendly vendetta against him and got them talking.  

Their friendship developed very quickly, and it was to the surprise of no one when they started dating the following year. They were clearly smitten with each other. 

They broke up two years later, but it was amicable and mostly due to graduating and going their separate ways. They remained good friends.

Uni was when Phoebe really came into herself and her identity as a bisexual woman. She was closeted and struggled with her attraction to women throughout her teenage years, but as an adult, she finally felt ready to explore her sexuality and eventually found confidence and pride in it.

She studied music theory, btw. Like Witch!Phoebe, music is her life’s passion and her dream is to be a rock star. 

She was part of a queer, all-female punk rock band as the lead guitarist and one of the vocalists.They were very popular on campus.

The band broke up shortly after uni due to creative differences. It was also rumored that lead vocalist Merula Snyde did not take well to Phoebe dating Tulip Karasu, her ex-girlfriend whom she still secretly had feelings for, which caused a massive rift between the two musicians. 

(The rumor was true, and the stress of it all ended up being the undoing of Phoebe and Tulip’s relationship as well. RIP.)

After graduating, Phoebe worked a lot of odd jobs to support herself while she slowly but surely began to make a name for herself within the music industry, eventually starting a well-received hard rock band with her favorite (and only) brother, Jacob, and his best friend Duncan Ashe. 

It was during a performance at a pub in Glasgow, Scotland, that Phoebe had a surprise reunion with Orion. The pair had fallen out of touch in the decade they’d been apart, but it became apparent very quickly as they caught up that the love between them hadn’t faded with time. 

And since I’m predictable, they do get back together and stay together for the rest of their lives.

In Phoebe’s mind, her greatest achievement in life is the two daughters she has with Orion, but the first album she ever put out with her band and her continuously growing and varying discography is definitely up there as well. :)

What are little changes you have made about the personalities of your Rockstar! cast that we can look forward to as a departure from the HPHM kids we know and love?

Ohhh, Rockstar!AU, my beloved…

So, without wanting to give too much away, the main characters of @lifeofkaze’s Art of Balance (i.e. the Quidditch crew and Charlie Weasley) are your main players, along with my MC Artemis and Merula Snyde. There are also roles played by your lovely KC, Andre Egwu, and @that-scouse-wizard’s David Willows, and cameos from David’s stepsister Amelia, Bill Weasley, Emily Tyler, Talbott Winger, @whatwouldvalerydo’s Talia Hayes and @night-rhea’s Night Rhea, and there are a couple of references to @carewyncromwell and @hphmmatthewluther as well… it’s a pretty big project, TBH!

In terms of personality changes, we’ve tried to keep the characters having the same essence as they always have - Lizzie is still bright and bubbly, Orion is rambling and a bit of a hippy, Artemis is still as much of scowly little gremlin as ever. But, they are older, so the content is more mature, and more than anything, it’s the way the relationships between the characters that have changed.

For example, in my canon, Artemis and Merula are kind of two sides of the same coin - both have been largely neglected and left to run wild for a good portion of their childhood thanks to factors outside of their control, however they’ve been shaped by their relationships with others. Whereas Artemis chooses friendship and belonging, Merula chooses isolation. In the Rockstar!AU, it’s the other way around: Merula is part of the band, has surrounded herself with her own found (albeit dysfunctional) family, and Artemis is the one who has been going it alone for all these years. It makes for a softer Merula and a harder Artemis, which is a really interesting dynamic change that I’m having a lot of fun with.

The other character Artemis spends a lot of time with in the AU is my favourite boy Charlie Weasley. Again, the dynamics of their friendship has changed completely from my canon, in which they basically have been circling around each other from the age of eleven, and by the time they become friends, neither of them would really be able to remember how they first met or got to know one another - they’ve kind of just been there from the start. In the Rockstar!AU, they kind of get thrown together, which straight away forces them to interact. And if there’s one thing Artemis hates, it’s being forced to do anything…
