Nothing drives me up the wall like “progressive” cis people who justify, minimize, defend, and/or equivocate about supporting JKR and Harry Potter. It costs you nothing to NOT do something and NOT make those comments acting like trans people are stupid or overreacting. It’s disgusting, especially how many of them get on their high horse and act like they’re so profound and smart for being beyond trans people’s measly concerns about systemic oppression.

I can't decide whether it's more disappointing to see people continuing to use terms from Harry Potter when there are very clear words for them already, or that when you point out that it's really so much better to NOT continue to mention that series, people get upset about wrecking their fun.
I would have thought someone's Initial Sweater was lovely except they described it as a "Weasley sweater". Now I'm just sad.

Autistic childhood culture is instantly placing yourself in the “smart people” groups from your favorite books (Ravenclaw, child of Athena, etc.) because you were only praised for your book-smarts as a kid and therefore thought it was your only defining trait. You later realized those groups don’t actually describe you well.
Normally I don't talk outside of the tags, but this is possibly the most relatable thing I've ever seen.

it's genuinely upsetting for me to just. like. always discover one of the people i followed has such horrible takes on how people should enjoy fiction. i left tumblr years ago and decided to try it again since i did miss fandom interaction, but a lot of people--even those who don't identify as anti--have such vile takes on how fans should enjoy hobbies
the recent one i saw was how harry potter fans had no excuse in enjoying harry potter even if they did pirate content and made fanworks that are queer-friendly because... apparently you're still supporting jk rowling, i guess?
why? does this apply to other works with shitty creators like lovecraft? danny phantom? rurouni kenshin?
why doesn't transformative works count???? i feel like if some rando made a fanfic of harry potter being trans that would be an amazing act of absolute spiteful "fuck you" to jk rowling, not support?
and idk if it's just me but why does it feel like there's some layer of denial a lot of people have that a person can have shitty morals and still make something that you find beautiful and entertaining? yeah, it's not a comfortable feeling to have and there's no... right way to confront the fact that jkr became successful with harry potter. but shitting on fans (especially fans who actively take steps not to give any money to jkr) feels so goddamn performative. does this help anyone besides their own comfort because they don't want to see harry potter fans that have complex thoughts and feelings?

Small question, if you don't mind me asking, why'd you change your url ? :)
I do not mind at all!
So there's like. Several reasons. My old username was Luna-lovegreat. I chose that username for a few reasons, explained here, but one of those reasons is that it lightly referenced my favourite hp character, Luna-lovegood. I love Luna-lovegood because she was one of my autism role models as a kid, and she taught me a lot about learning to love myself and be who I am, no matter how wierd. I also chose to have that url because of wordplay- Luna means moon, and I love the moon. Luna-lovegreat, as in my love for the moon is great.
When I joined tumblr, I was much less aware of the environment around hp and how bad it truly is. Supporting my queer friends is extremely important to me, and I quickly realised that having a username with a blatant reference could hurt them and make them feel less safe around me. I care about my people (and I'm not too certain of my identity myself), so I decided that I would change it if I found one that made me as happy :))
This is still my blog, and I don't want to change my username much, but I did want to get rid of something I knew was making my trans friends uncomfortable. When I saw this post,
I got really excited, because I LOVE booping people. I boop my dog and my friends and my horses, and the ask games that boop people are my favourite tbh. It literally just seemed like the perfect solution to me, to replace the word great with boop. This gets rid of the hp reference and replaced it with something that makes me just as happy :)
It also mattered to me that I kept the words Luna and love, because I LOVE THE MOON SO MUCH!!! Sorry for yelling fidjdjdjfjdjjf I really love the moon ':D
Keeping the Luna-love part means that it still references my favourite thing off the planet hehe. I also wanted to keep the beginning very similar so it was easily identifiable- and I won't change my pfp for a while so people can still recognise it's me. My header right now also says 'formerly Luna-lovegreat'. I had this idea months ago, I've been planning it because for some reason I got anxiety about if anyone would recognise it was still me.
To be clear no one forced me into this- no hate comments or anything was made, just me growing and learning socially- and also getting excited at the idea of boops
I'm very very autistic, and have trouble grasping social stuff, so I'm extremely grateful to everyone who talks to me about it and help me understand. I know I've rambled now lol, but if I accidentally have said anything offensive as always let me know because I can't tell :P
So yeah. I really wanted to do something to make my blog an even more safe space, so taking out the hp reference seemed appropriate. I really hope this helps my queer friends be more comfortable- I stand with you and I love you all so very much. Never forget how loved and precious you are, and don't let anyone hate on you.
And again. Boops like it has the word boop in it, I LOVE boops.
In honour of my new url, here's Stitch-
Boop!!
Small reminder that you matter and I love you <3 bye, thank you for asking
#asks#personal#hp mention#thank you for asking and being so nice!!#my doggos#everyone has been really nice- idk I didn't expect anything and several have made nice comments about it I love you all so much rjdndjfndsd#my username at this time: Luna-loveboop#my former username: Luna-lovegreat#my current header: formerly Luna-lovegreat

Hi,
Hope you are doing well. Thank you for the answer on the Reckonings of Roku.
I was thinking that since Zutara is considered as an "enemies to lovers" dynamic by the fans, I had once come across a quote that explained this dynamic. I don't recall the quote sadly, but it made is clear that E2L is not abuse.
Another part that you had reblogged I think was a sort of comparison between Romione from Harry Potter and Kataang, I have a feeling that the reason that these two pairings can feel similar is that the movies are what everyone sees, and the way they wrote Ron in the movies butchered his characterization from the novels and made Hermione too perfect, whereas in the books, they get together only after both go through significant growth.
I would like your thoughts on this.
The reason enemies to lovers is not abuse is because abuse is about power dynamics, not about whether two characters hate each other. Which doesn't mean an antagonistic relationship can't involve an imbalance of power that could lead to abuse, but it isn't a requirement. More to the point, abuse of power can also occur with characters who are not outright enemies. The type of abuse that is likely to happen between enemies is more easily recognized as abuse, like someone capturing and torturing an enemy. But there's a more insidious type of abuse with characters who aren't outright antagonistic to each other, because most abusers do not announce themselves as your enemy. These are the abusers that work to gain your trust as part of the grooming process. This is usually what people are afraid of when they say enemies to lovers is abuse, but is actually more likely to occur during the lovers part, and it doesn't work if you already don't trust the other person and recognize them as your enemy.
I don't remember enough about Romione in either the books or the movies, and don't care enough to look it up, to have an opinion about that. Sorry.

When designing/writing characters that have certain traits/characteristics which in our current society may be a hot button topic (like being trans), how do you tackle making sure it’s not a Big Deal (ie that character’s dominate trait or only reason for being in the story) but also not brushing it under the rug (like what JK Rowling did with Dumbledore being gay)?
This topic is a little too complex for me to sufficently cover it in a tumblr ask+reply, and even if I could I would feel like it wasn't my place to speak for everyone.
I will attempt to give some advice, but consider this more of a starting off point than anything.
The main two things are research and improving yourself, I think. These two things go hand in hand to form a cycle that if you continue going through you will become someone who wont pull garbage bigotry on minorities.
What I mean is, that you have to research whatever group youre hoping to represent. Not just wikipedia or other articles, but find their own opinions. Things said by them. During that research you might get uncomfortable, confused, overwhelmed and maybe even angry.
That's because we are all subconciously bigoted one way or another. That's where improving yourself comes in. You will never be able to represent a group youre not a part of if you do not process the feelings that come up and deal with them. Subconcious bigtory is incredibly visible in writing. The reason someone like J.K ended up writing Dumbledore's sexuality the way she did, is because she never went through the cycle and learnt to be humble in the face of critique.
That gets me to another point, which is that you are allowed to and will make mistakes. Many weirdos online like to say you cant and will be cancelled forever, but if you are genuinely remorseful and show that and show youre listening... You can mess up. Its okay. People who want rep often also want to help.
Uhm... This is getting long, but to make clear what I mean, is that its very difficult to start, and there arent shortcuts... But you become someone better by the end of it. Be humble, find ways of learning that work for you, be kind and curious, and you might end up with so much more joy than just good writing. Life is better with more kinds of people, cultures and stories in it. I reccomend it.
#Ask#Uuuh this turned out to be a bit much haha#Its worth adding that people dont stop having bigoted thoughts#Its something you have to keep working on always#But once you get the cycle going#The wheel starts to roll easier#Harry potter mention#HP Mention

Send 🌺 and i'll recommend a blog i've followed forever
@itsumoegao sent in a pretty flower from this garden!
I actually have like...4 blogs that I have to recommend actually. I couldn't just do one or wait for someone to send me a flower 3 more times; so you're gettin' all of 'em. I have known all of them for quite some time now, even if I stepped away from the RPC for a long time. When I came back to write again (Shota), they were still here and I was very glad to see that. I met them when I was writing Alastor Moody from HP like, 3 years ago. @dhampiravidi who writes amazing OCs and puts so much thought into the characters that she writes. They're always sending in amazing asks and questions that I haven't even thought about. It actually has really helped me develop Mr. Aizawa even further.
@wiccawcnder is another person that I've known for a long time, and I was so excited that they decided to come back to the RPC around the same time that I did! I'm also very glad that she is back from her vacation and that we get to party and write together again.
@proditeur Also a person who I've known forever! G. has done such a phenomenal job of world building for her OC and Reg is a doll. A shithead but we love him for it. But as far as the world building goes; the lore is deep here lads, and I think has an insane amount of thought put into it. Like y'all, I could never build something like that from the ground up. Good shit.
@faultyconscience / @radiaking is the first person to follow me on my new blog/eraserisms. I actually have been really happy to see her get so deep into playing Coop! Dani is very passionate about him and I love to see it. It's clear to me how much she loves him and even when I don't know exactly what she's posting about; I agree 😂. I can't wait to actually finish Fallout so I can develop a verse for ShoSho. I'm currently waiting on a friend to watch it together and I'm sure it'll be fun to explore.

harry potter fans when you tell them that buying Racism: The Game or speaking positively about it does in fact support a transphobe financially and socially, and reflects on who they are as a person:
#are you really more concerned with playing a video game than you are making trans people feel safe in existing?#hp mention

Between growing up on Homestuck and Harry Potter I really never stood a chance when it comes to arbitrary categorization of personality characteristics. Like yes I would love to know what fruit I would be online quiz thank you so much.

Any Harry Potter discourse that's related to the thought of "You must be as bad as JKR for still being into HP!" feels kiiiinda concerning on their views with media tbh? Like I've seen people insist HP is an actually shit book series (and you should be ashamed you're not big brained for not seeing it), shit on people's ages (often, and eerily specifically, adult women who ship "icky" drarry or whatever), say that you're still supporting JKR even if the only official merch you have is the old books you got as a kid, and have this kinda hilarious fear that they'll get infected by anti-trans, racist, antisemitic, etc brainslugs if they even open a page of the books or see the menu screen of hogwarts legacy
Like I feel HP is like a similar example to how someone writing horror, violence, and murder doesn't mean they're murdery in real life? But in an opposite flavor? There's nothing really horrible in the original books (there are issues, like oh boy Cho Chang wasn't the only oof in the books), they're fun to read and the movies were a delight to watch. That doesn't mean JKR is a paragon of virtue and that's super obvious?
A person's skill or talent isn't connected to their morality and I feel it's dangerous to think that way. Like bad people must only make bad works and good people make good works. And that's not true?
Idk something something it feels like people are scared if they read HP and enjoy it they'll have the Old Christian Horrific Guilt, lacking any ability to go "Huh, I'm enjoying this but I'm also noticing weird things about the book now that I know JKR is a piece of shit. Interesting. Next page." and think everyone who still enjoys HP and lacks the Christian Guilt must be a horrible person. Instead of like... someone who probably likes reading books and never had the urge to be a terf.

There's a blind spot people have sometimes when trying to talk about HP that I noticed
whenever there's discussions on reclaiming it in some way people forget that....a lot of the people who want to reclaim it are trans women. A lot of the people who are making queer spinoffs to try and get control of that narrative are trans women. And other groups JKR has harmed as well, such as Jewish people, anyone who isn't white, anyone with aids...
I don't know if reclaiming it is a good idea and honestly I don't personally care because I don't like any of the characters or the worldbuilding even a little bit and don't have any personal nostalgia for it, so I don't really feel emotionally invested in taking it back?? It's some stupid wizard series to me. I don't want it!! And I can't pretend I personally understand the people who still do.
But I think arguments we have on it should account for the fact that trans women (and other groups she's bitchy too) can and do still care about the series and want to hold onto it in some way. I think that should be a part of the discussion and at least part of your argument should address that group directly.
When you argue that no one should make fanart or try to reclaim it somehow, don't phrase it like every trans woman is in agreement, because they aren't. They can't be, they're all individuals with their own opinions and ways of doing things. Don't act like only the cishet, white, not-HIV-positive people care about it.
Explain to the people who are IN those groups how and why they should abandon it, too, don't rest your entire case on a mythical complete-agreement between everyone affected ever that they don't want Harry Potter anymore. Your argument will be a lot stronger if you account for this- it'll not only reach and be applicable to more people but it'll also make you seem like you've thought this out more. If someone personally knows a Jewish non-white HIV positive trans woman who loves Harry Potter, and your argument pretends those people don't exist, then that person is going to write you off, because "well x still likes it". If someone IS the Jewish non-white HIV positive trans woman and they see your argument they're just going to write you off because "well they don't speak for me I think fan content is fine". You have to address the whole room. /gen

Cis people like Thomas will do anything to pretend they are trans activists for brownie points. But it shows through that they don’t really get it (and aren’t willing it learn) when they won’t even do the basic shit like not using their giant platforms to talk about how great HP is. Like that is just free advertising for JKR.
Your account has me angry lol (but you are so right so thank you)
YEAH…. YEAH.
and ive seen so many people argue that boycotting hp “wont work” because it’s too well known but like. jkr thrives on attention. if we don’t give her attention she’ll shrivel up and die. that’s how it works
and yet so many people are like “i can’t give up hp cos it means too much to me” because they’re COWARDS AND PUSSIES. AND I HATE THEM
hp fans deserve to be publicly made fun of
