Ok well after all that and 8 different support page tabs opened I entered my product and serial numbers into the HP page and its saying that the Only compatible pen is their $80 one with terrible reviews 🙃 and who fucking knows if I'll be able to return these other pens 🙃 or even if after I go thru all the trouble of buying this other pen it will actually work

Hey tumblrinas, I would love some techie advice.

i need a new computer. I've been limping on a 2015 HP but I want a desktop because they're cheaper and you can upgrade them. I want to be able to play RDR2 and actually see why everyone's amazed at the graphics. I wanna play AC Valhalla. I want it to easily run the Ciri Witcher game, whenever that drops. I want Veilguard to play perfectly.

I plan to get a used/refurbished/whatever tower because my budget is not very big (though I won't waste money on something that doesn't meet my needs; I'll save for longer if I gotta. pref to spend in the 400s though. I want to believe that isn't totally naive.)

So! I've never bought my own desktop. My plan is to get:

SSD at least 500gigs. should I combine SSD and HDD? like I said, budget's an issue. I'd rather have a terabyte of just SSD, but I don't know how costly it can get. I'm used to a terabyte on HDD on my laptop, and less would be a hassle. I have good internet, but sometimes I don't want to download and delete games constantly, and I have other stored stuff like writing and design* programs.

*like sketchup, not like photoshop or indesign or anything like that. not doing major rendering.

RAM of 16gigs.

good video card. historically I've always gotten NVIDIA gaming cards for my laptop. open to other options. obviously I need more VRAM than my current 960GTX has.

I have no idea what CPU to get. I know intel had a big run of fucked up CPUs recently, so I just want to go in with my eyes open.

at least 3 USB (regular, not C) ports, pref 5+, in addition to the monitor hookup, which I guess is HDMI?

and I'd REALLY like a built in optical drive, but peripherals are cheap enough, so I'm not worried too much about it.

I'm not sure what brands to look at. I've had an Asus laptop that literally fell apart after four years and an HP that's still going after nine, but I have no idea what brands are solid for desktops.

Anyone willing to offer advice on this will be adored and respected forever!

At first I thought it was the EA App effing up--I had it install the base game and all the EPs at once, but that didn't work, so I figured OK, let me uninstall everything and ONLY install the base game. That FINALLY got the TS3 Folder to appear in Documents, and the Launcher finally loaded. But every time I click Play, it instantly crashes back to the EA App. I have zero mods or Store CC installed or anything. And the "Repair" button on the EA App appears to do EFF ALL, so.... *whimpers*

I never had a laptop with Nvidia and different V-RAM/GPU components, so I'm a fish out of water as far as specs go with this new PC, since my dinosaurs ran TS3 just fine, LOL. Before this I was on a Win10 8GB Dell laptop (2017-2023), and before that I was on a 4GB Vista HP laptop (2009-2017).

This new laptop is a Win11 Asus--it runs Baldur's Gate 3 (barely, LOL, even my Steam Deck is crying), so I have no clue why it can't run TS3:

It's been a while, hasn't it? Between work, taking care of loved ones, and trying to fight my way through seasonal depression, these last few months have been long and exhausting.

Of course, not all of it has been rough. I've made my way up to teacher status at work (hell yeah, extra pay!), and my mom was finally accepted for widow benefits after a 10-year struggle with the state. Some things have been great!

Others, not so much. My Great-Uncle Bernie (86), my grandpa's younger brother, passed away recently, leaving only my Great-Aunt Margaret (93) as the only sibling out of what was once twelve children. I've been her caregiver for the last six years, but I was the sole caregiver for both of them from just after Thanksgiving (November 28th) to the 12th.

Needless to say, it hit me hard.

I've also come to the realization that, once Auntie Margie passes, I'll be part of my family's second-oldest generation. Granted, I'll be the second-youngest member of that generation, but still... it hits different.

There are some other positives that I'd like to mention, though! Apart from my job and my mom's ten-year-late victory, I mean. I started up a D&D group in the after-school program I teach in, for one. I write all of the campaigns on my own, draw all the maps and battle arenas by hand, and print the material for it all, so that takes up a lot of free time, but the kids love it, so I don't mind it as much. We started off in October with a short Stranger Things campaign before moving onto Home Alone for Thanksgiving into Christmas. Now, we're doing Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, and I'm realizing that I'd actually love to have a little one-shot with our characters in that type of setting. Maybe on one of my days off I'll do a playthrough of the game or something and see if I can pinpoint where I could see everyone 👀

Also, I finally saved enough money for a good-quality laptop and a new phone! Ya girlie now has a pink iPhone 15 and a shiny HP Pavilion! I know it's nothing huge, but it's a nice accomplishment for me, so I wanted to share it. I'm hoping to save up for a flight to visit my family's homestead in County Cork, Ireland, and take a trip through different areas of the UK, visiting friends and places my relatives have stayed, as well as maybe seeing a performance of Starlight Express. It's a long shot, but who knows?

Now that things are starting to go back to normal again, I'm going to try to relax a bit more and focus on what makes me happy, not what I think will make everyone else happy. It'll be a long road, but for the sake of my sanity and happiness, I look forward to the journey.

I'm sorry this has taken me so long, but I'm here now, and I'm fighting off the seasonal bullshit as best as I can. Spring can't come soon enough, but I'm willing to fight for myself for once, so that's new and, for the most part, exciting.

For the first time in a long time, I look forward to what this chapter of my life has in store for me.

Hopefully, it's a good read.

Seriously!? It's still doing that much damage!? Shoot shoot shoot, uuuh…the Sp. Defense boost is a problem, so if I get Glare back up…

Shoot, I need another turn to heal Glare more- sacrificing Vulcan it is!

Now bring Glare in, use Acid Spray to get that Sp. Defense back down…

And- And- ah, who am I kidding, the team is in pieces and Clefable can one-shot with Stored Power, it's too late to do anything, we need to reset.

Can't believe the real final roadblock to getting the seventh Gym Badge is Clefable…and I can't believe it's taken me this many tries to beat this battle! And I thought Kiki's fight was nightmarish…is it just gonna be a rule of thumb that any boss battle where I have to leave Riptide in the PC is a really difficult one? We'll see, if it happens a third time…

But…I think I know how to handle that final hurdle. If I can just Screech Clefable down enough, Wulfrum should be able to kill with a single Iron Tail. Plus, with Sturdy, he won't be one-shot by Moonblast or Stored Power or anything else Clefable can throw at him. As long as he can hit that one Iron Tail…

And you know what? Now that I know Clefable isn't gonna pull any Minimize shenanigans, I can switch out Vulcan for Crater, since I think the Amnesia and Earth Power combo on Girafarig wasn't so bad.

Alright…here's the team, and hopefully this time- this time- we'll get the win. All these plans, these adaptations I've been making, refining my strategy…hopefully, after all that, this'll be the one.

Clefable first? That's fine, I need to heal Wulfrum, so I'll sacrifice Frost and Crater for this.

Calm Mind, huh? That's fine, I could use an extra turn to heal Glare too.

…and, uh…

Right as I was making my next move, my uh…my entire laptop crashed while Steam was updating in the background…at least, I think that's what caused it? Steam was updating, and then the game (and my laptop) crashed all of a sudden, and…well, I was able to get a screenshot or two of what happened, so here's my recreation of what the screen looked like:

No idea what that's all about or what Steam has to do with it, but…ugh. Needless to say, I'm not counting that as a reset, since I had no control over it. Combine that with the random crit Girafarig got again on this attempt and Cinccino’s…everything, and it's starting to look like the game itself really doesn't want me to win. But I'm going to!! If only out of spite towards technology by this point!!

Okay, back again! Here we are! Since Glare has higher HP than before, I thought it was good to send her in first this time. Now, all she has to do is land two Screeches- that's it.

Destiny Bond did not work and I wasted my Seed Bomb chance, I am so foolish. Okay, time to sacrifice Bloom to heal Glare…

This battle was so unfair to him, guys, like- this is his element, fighting in a beautiful field of flowers, he should have been allowed to do more, but all the Fire and Ice and Psychic attacks going around, he just wasn't allowed to exist…

(Future edit: In hindsight, I realize I could have swapped out Bloom for Riptide to have him be a backup Screech user, that way I wouldn't have needed to spend all these resources reviving Glare, oops-)

Another surgery, more Chemo

Dear Friends, I got most of my results today. And I got bad days sometimes. It's been how many months eversince I went home after a year of being in and out of HP, and been into ICU. I am in need of another surgery again to remove water in my lungs as it re-occurs almost monthly because of pleural effusion, infection. Which requires medical attention. I have this occurring condition because of my Treatments,  and tumors are occurring all over my body and some of them are malignant which requires so much attention. My illness was earlier detected and in lower stages, and can be cured(I am praying always) to not advance, but it will take time as to how my body reacts. My lungs has a very bad history last 2018, and lately they have found something on my breast that needs further checking as well. My breasts hurts a lot. Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery and the mounting hospital bills that have piled up from my past hospitalization(2021-2022), have become an overwhelming burden for me, my friends and my family. We are also still grieving at the untimely passing of my niece 3 weeks ago. They have already exhausted their savings and are struggling to make ends meet. And also I've been a breadwinner of my Family for a very long time. They depend on me financially.  Weekly Treatments are costly for me too as well. As we have a very bad healthcare system where I live.  And despite having a job, it only pays me $250/monthly which is not enough, because I am renting an apartment. And have a caregiver to check on my welfare, as I have difficulties in movement and series of bad episodes. I am also taking care of my cats and dog,

I am also most of the time in an oxygen so that it will ease my breathing problems. I have bad days, but I am trying my best to ease the pain and smile everyday.💖💝 I am really ashamed to ask help once again, as you all know I made my Etsy store several months ago to help with my expenses, but Etsy permanently suspend it without any proper explanation, despite my appeal. The Laptop which I also use for designing is no longer working, and I need to redesign again to sell, to support my Treatment. I humbly ask for your support once again. As I need to have the procedure to be scheduled next week 24th of May. Update as of June: I am already home but unfortunately my bills have piled up again, and signed a promissory letter.

I feel a sudden, urgent need to rant, probably because I just spent a ridiculous amount of time on simply confirming that, yes, the local Best Buy's Geek Squad is an authorized service centre for HP, and all I need to do is walk in and drop off my laptop. Like, the HP web site helped me locate any service centres near me (though it kept being convinced I was in southern Ontario, not up around Sudbury). The Best Buy web site confirmed there's a Geek Squad centre there. Their "Chat with an agent" link is a dirty filthy lie, however, as when you phone the number provided, you end up on an automated voice mail system that at no point actually gives you an option to speak to a human, and instead eventually hangs up on you after (unhelpfully) offering to text or email you links of where to go to get service via their web site.

I eventually resorted to trying the live tech support chat option, where the agent (also potentially just a bot responding to keywords) admitted that, yes, they do tech support, it's strictly walk-in no appointment needed, and that, oh yeah, personnel in-store can't be reached by phone.

JFC Best Buy at least have your damn web site or voice mail tree have information like that AVAILABLE RIGHT THERE. That was all I needed to know. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops for a quarter of an hour or more just to confirm that yeah, you do HP support, and yeah, I can just bring in and drop off my laptop.

...now I just need to get said laptop there. Brother has offered that if they're open late enough, he can drive it in after work, weather permitting. Also, if there was a non-Best Buy option, they would so be getting my business instead.
